I went to the Imperial Theatre on BWay to view the Temptations story. The theatre was Excellent. The Imperial was vey clean including the restrooms🌟. The staff was prompt, efficient, knowledgeable and courteous. I will definitely return to the Imperial for shows in the future A++ 🎊🎉👍🥂🌞
Saw the Temptations play here - Aint Too Proud To Beg. Play was amazing. Theater however was extremely cramped. Im under 55 and I couldnt wait for intermission just so I could get up and stretch. For context, I was on the 2nd level, so maybe the seating is better if you pay more.
We saw Aint too Proud and thoroughly enjoyed it. The seats were comfortable and the production was wonderful. We thought the music was done very well and the acting and singing were top notch! The staging was clever but not complex. The restrooms were upstairs and a bit overwhelmed at intermission as is usual. Seating was quick and efficient. We did not order any drinks here. Highly recommend this show and this theater!
My husband and I saw the Aint too proud (Temptations) musical! The show was AWESOME! The entire cast was amazing and so were their voices! The theater is kind of small so EVERY seat has a great view! We sat Mezz Rear, Row G, seat 11 & 12! There were 2 downsides: trying to use the restroom at intermission ...the womens restroom line was RIDICULOUS! I ended up waiting until after the show to use it! AND my husband is 63, his legs were cramped and he had an aisle seat! **Go see the show**
Very nice theater. I almost had enough room in the orchestra seats. The show was very cheesy but if youre a big Ruben & Clay fan youre going to love the Christmas songs, corny jokes, minimal staging, and limited singing talents of both stars. The five additional singers and theater performers were, in my humble opinion, much more talented. My only real complaint was the fact that they opened the doors to the street to assist in exiting the 1,400 seat theater which wasnt necessary since they had lest than 700 inside. I will say it was only the second night of a three week engagement but I did expect more stage presence from both considering theyve been doing this for 15 years.
My brother and two sisters were fortunate enough to get four seats in the orchestra section of the Theatre for the play, Aint Too Proud to Beg, the story of the Temptations. We enjoyed the play. The staff was courteous and responsive. Their plan for exiting the Theatre was on target. I look forward to returning to the theatre to see this or another play.
I loved going to the Imperial Theater to see Aint too Proud, The Life of The Temptations.I took my daughter for her 31st Birthday, and I have to say, I was very impressed and satisfied with the performance 🎭.It bought alot of memories of my childhood, listening to Motown Artist, and seeing some in person, like the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, and many more at the Apollo Theater. (125th Street Harlem)For anyone who is handicap your in luck to easy access for rest rooms, is on the lower floor.I am handicap, so I stayed on the ground floor, middle section was perfect for me to see the performance. On the ground floor I was able to buy Tee shirts, tote bags. A must go to Theatre.
It was an absolute surprise for my fathers 65th birthday for tickets to see The Temptations Aint to proud. He was ecstatic! I also got some great seats row J orchestra! The show was absolutely amazing all of the cast members were entertaining as well as vocally talented. The only draw back were the seats. Tight and uncomfortable. I was so entertained that I didnt let the seating ruin my time. Needless to say it was amazing!
Great show about the Temptations and the road to success. Lost lives, lost loves, drugs, alcohol all part of the deal. Cast was terrific. Hard to believe there are so many talented singers and performers. Theatre was lean and neat. Staff very friendly. Masks are required.
I visited and saw Aint too proud to beg...Temptations....it was awesome...the theater was well clean and organized for COVID precautions. The ONLY issue is they need more than one ladies room, although the lines moved quickly that was an issue AND its upstairs so quite a few elderly people were not able to go..In addition, years ago the commentator would announce the intermission they dont anymore the curtain goes black and they use a chiming bell.
Our first show since pandemic. Theater requires proof of vaccination and picture ID which we support enthusiastically. These checks were completed efficiently with only a 15 minute add on before door opening. The ushers were professional but friendly in seating and enforcement of Covid regs. Aint Too Proud was outstanding, certainly in the top 5% of dozens of shows we have seen over the past 35 years. Like Jersey Boys, we will revisit this play for certain. The voices, music, dancing and dramatic acting were all top drawer.
The show was great . The theater and its operation, not so much. The prices for wine and alcoholic beverages are outrageous. Please be aware. The gimmick with the wine is your have to buy a take home memory plastic cup for $29.00.(the cost of 3 bottles of wine) and the theater saves the cost of disposing of the cups.Pretty slick. Be on notice of this marketing trick when you simply want a glass of wine. Also.they continued to seat latecomers throughout the performance. How distracting. The showAin t Too Proud To Beg was terrific.
You can literally feel the upgraded ventilation system as soon as you step through the doors. COVID vaccine checks were a breeze - the security guards have got it down pat. As do the patrons who were 100% cooperative - all had their vaccine passports at the ready and were fully masked throughout (not even one was half masked below the nose!). Felt completely safe. Ushers were greeting patrons with a friendly welcome back at every opportunity. Happiness resonated throughout and was contagious. Well done! The icing on the cake? The marvelous performers channeling the Temptations!
Went to Imperial Theater to see Carosel. Brittany Pollack was wonderful. The set design was amazing and the corriography by Justin Peck was well done. The theater itself is a classic. Some signs of wear but quite comfortable. Good air conditioning and polite staff. The theater is small so that every seat has a good view.
Attended a preview of Carousel (beautiful revival) the other night and was seriously impressed with the new policies at the Imperial. The ushers and signage really made it clear that late seating would not be permitted, and not one person in the orchestra disrupted the performance. The bar no longer serves ice with drinks because of the noise as well. I was really able to focus on the production and I thank the staff for that. The only downside of the Imperial is the womens bathroom situation, but I feel like that is an unfortunate standard of Broadway houses.
Originally we were headed to a comedy club and changed it up before we left to NYC and added a second Broadway show. Obviously this is about the Temptations however I didn’t give it much thought on how the story was going to be told. We saw that it won a Tony award for Best Choreography. From the moment the curtain went up we were treated to dancing and singing. Never a dull moment, the full story was unfolded in a very entertaining fashion. Not gonna say more as to not to play spoiler. (pun intended) If your a fan of the Motown era you won’t be disappointed! Add it to your list of must see shows.
Imperial Theatre need to enforce their policy about people arriving late. My Husband and I had to get out of our seats three different times because people where late. I did not get to enjoy the show, it was very frustrating. We paid for tickets to enjoy the Temptations and it was the worse experience ever. I am very disappointed and dissatisfied and will not attend another show.
Vintage theatre easily located on 45th Street. It features a wide but shallow stage that puts the show close to its audience. There is an intimacy with the show thats hard to beat. The usual limitations of an older theatre are evident; tight seating, long queues for the facilities and limited wheelchair locations.
We attended Aint Too Proud, which was great. This is a review of the ushers and staff, who are rude, condescending and uncaring. The whole manner of mask enforcement is draconian & oppressive. The restroom facilities are inadequate, which they made worse by denying access to the handicapp one, eventhough there were no handicapped people seeking access or in attendance. If you go to this theater, dont plan on using the facilities.
We had an awful experience at the Nov. 6th matinee performance of Aint Too Proud to Beg. The theater staff is absolutely INSANE about masks. Literally crawling around and popping up to tell you to pull your mask up before you finish swallowing a sip of your extremely overpriced drink. Also, the website says if you are late for the play, you will not be seated until Act 2. They continued to seat people throughout all of Act 1 and it was extremely disruptive and rude to those of us who arrived on time and followed the rules. In addition, there was a group of patrons in the upper mezzanine corner who were so loud and disruptive throughout the play it pretty much ruined the experience. They treated the play like they were at a nightclub, loudly cheering, booing, screaming, it was disgusting. The play itself was wonderful, but the theater staff ruined it and we wont be back to Broadway until they loosen their insane restrictions and allow people some more freedom. If someone still thinks a mask is keeping them safe, then they can wear their mask or just stay home, but leave everyone else to make their decisions.
Saw Aint too proud to beg. Sat in the middle section of the upper mezzanine. While it was the nosebleed seats, I was still able to see all of the action from that vantage point. It was a good show and brought back memories listening to music that my elders played when I was a child
My wife and I had dinner here. They may have been understaffed as the lone server, along with the hostess, were kept very busy seating, serving, bartending, and bussing tables, although they seemed to be managing quite well. The food and service were great. I had the ribeye, which was very flavorful but tougher than I expected for the price. My wife was happy with her chicken piccata.
The performance was great and me and my husband enjoyed the show we sat in the front row the only 2 seats Great view didnt miss a thing it was great I will visited it again and the drinks wasnt bad for the price and you got to take home a cup for a souvenir parking wasnt bad found a lot a block away price was good
The show we saw there (Aint Too Proud, about the Temptations) was fantastic. The theater itself is an older theater, and it feels intimate (a good thing) and cramped (not such a good thing). Im 62 and I had very little legroom. The lines for the restrooms at intermission went up one set of stairs and down another because the upstairs lobby was too small to handle those plus the line for concessions.
We saw the Temptations tribute and the show was fantastic. There didn’t seem to be a bad seat in the house. The line for the ladies bathroom moves fast in intermission but be prepared for the wait. Two drinks were $86 before tip.We printed the tickets but actually needed to pull them up on phone because printer too small and scanners couldn’t read the paper.
The play was excellent. The theatre itself is older. The seat space is small. There is not much leg room and if your hips are wide it may be a snug fit :) Youll be instantly acquainted with those seated close to you. The temperature was regulated nicely. I wasnt too cold. Overall as expected for a building this age.
Saw Ain’t Too Proud to Beg last night. The play was fantastic and whether you grew up in the 60’s or just love the music it’s a cant miss. Great story and even better performances The theater is intimate and the seating is tight, but certainly manageable even with coats and an umbrella.
I loved watching the Broadway show The Temptations. It was amazing. The theatre was very nice although small. The seats are small so if you are a big person, may have problems being comfortable. Going to the bathroom was a nightmare although the line went pretty fast. They had people directing the line. I would recommend going to this theater.
If youre tall...not much leg room. Seeing the Temptations on Broadway for the second time was GREAT! You wont be thinking about the leg room watching these talented performers depict the life & times of the Temptations. The band is amazing under great conduction! God willing Ill be attending more shows and bringing someone along for this outstanding show! I feel like Im watching the Temptations perform. LOVE IT!!!
Went to see Aint to proud, absolutely fantastic , loved it, outstanding musical. Theater does not have much leg room, its very cramped, tight fitting. Mot very elegant, sort of drab looking. For all the money you pay for tickets, I expected more of the theater. The show was exceptional.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the little known story of The Temptations. I was disappointed in the audience, though. My group was basically told to be quiet because people were complaining about us clapping too loud, shouting too much, and singing too much. This is a jukebox musical and I think that the actors expect for the audience to sing along with them because many of these songs we sang along with on the radio. Lighten up, people and let others enjoy their memories.
Most incredible Broadway show Ive seen in ten years. No special effects just pure, unbelievable talent. (But yes, the set was truly amazing especially how they create the carousel with set pieces, lighting and choreography.) Very entertained by the usher on the mezzanine barking at everyone to walk slowly! It is a very steep stair case so that was much appreciated!
Aint too proud was amazing!! Loved it from beginning to end. Motown era was phenomenal. I was born in the late 70s but was raised to appreciate music from that Era. I am an old soul. I couldnt stop tapping my foot or complimenting every single performer to my husband. Such high energy, great dance moves and the singing was out of this world. The band was on point and came out at the end. No complaints at all. Definately would highly recommend to any age group.
While the show that I saw (Aint Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations) was quite good, this review is for the theater itself. The logistics of entering and exiting were chaotic even by the standards of Broadway, and the interior of the theater was nothing that special. That said, the seating even in the far left rear mezzanine was better than I expected, and the seats were more comfortable than others Ive been in, so I would say the theater is about average for Broadway.
I went to see Broadway Show, Aint Too Proud the story of the Temptations on April 5th. The show was captivating with high energy songs and dance moves. It focused on important elements of each of the Temptations personal life story as each of their stories related to their group experience. It also featured songs of other Motown groups and focused on their relationships with other Motown artists and executives. It was a terrific show, and I had a good view even from the upper mezzanine where I was seated. I highly recommend it to everyone!
This is a very beautiful theatre with amazing acoustics! However, for the price or Broadway tickets this historic venue really needs an upgrade. The average American is at least 2 inches taller and 20 to 30 pounds heavier now vs. When this venue was built. That said, the seats are too small and the spacing between rows is very tight. My Dad really enjoyed the Temptations show but at a height of 6 feet he was very uncomfortable. I was also very uncomfortable.Hoping management figures out a way to renovate the seating...
A worth bearer of its name, the Imperial Theatre is a large venue, with a seating capacity of 1417. It was opened on December 25, 1923 with the show Mary Jane McKane by Oscar Hammerstein II and Vincent Youmans. Since then, the venue has hosted many hit – shows like Annie Get Your Gun (1946), Fiddler on the Roof (1964), Dreamgirls (1981), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1985) and Les Misérables (1990), Its most recent additions were Carousel; Ruben & Clays First Annual Christmas Carol Family Fun Pageant Spectacular Reunion Show (limited engagement), Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and Aint Too Proud.Aint Too Proud was a huge hit in the Imperial Theatre. It told the stories of the American vocal group The Temptations. They were a huge thing in the 1960s and the 1970s and can be credited with hits like Cloud Nine, My Girl, and Aint Too Proud to Beg. The show is known for the vocal prowess of the actors and the distinctive choreography that has adopted a lot from the moves of the original band. It is no wonder that the show won a Tony Award for best Choreography in 2019 and was nominated for several more and a Grammy. Sadly, it was canceled because of the COVID outbreak.
My sister and I was at the Imperial Theatre to see the play The Temptations. The Ushers at the Theatre were very professional and moved the long line of people inside quickly and orderly. They were polite and engaging with us. The Imperial Theatre was clean and had beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The leg and knee space was a little tight. The performance was excellent by the actors, singers, dancers and the orchestra was excellent. The music brought back memories of The Temptations and the background of their stories were interesting. They were all very talented and I would recommend anyone to come and see this play.
A great Broadway venue. We purchase least cost ticket at most events. Got the third row from the last row in the balcony here. At Imperial Theatre, the experience is as good or even better and more comfortable than orchestra floor seats.Just dress lighter than the outside weather may dictate. Remember, hot air rises... In all the seasons.
My wife and I had seen Aint Too Proud; The Life And Times Of The Temptations. This show is fantastic! An enjoyable experience that played to a large capacity crowd. The stories of the formation of the MOTOWN Supergroup....the songs, music, stage presence, dance moves and stylish clothes makes you feel youre watching the real thing. This show is not to be missed. Highly recommend it. A great time was had by all at the Imperial Theatre.
Although seats are narrow and stairs on the mezzanine are quite steep, Im giving it 5 stars for the seat arrangements on the mezzanine. Even from the back row, the view of the stage and performers were excellent. And best part was that I didnt have someones head blocking my view.
Saw The Great Comet here, and we had an amazing time. The theater itself is a pretty fantastic venue. We had the good fortune of sitting on stage, but it looked like there wasnt a bad seat in the house. Its not a big place, and the balcony and mezzanine seating all looked comfortable and pretty close to the action. There were small tables with lamps placed among the seats in all sections, which kept it from feeling crowded and gave it an upscale vibe. Ushers and staff were professional, but not particularly friendly. (Hey, its New York City.)
I loved the show and the performers in carousel. But the management at the theatre have created policies that create an environment of poor customer service. I can’t believe how they discredit customers and make them remain outside the theatre for an hour and a half.I am really concerned that their policies will create a bad reputation for a show that has excellent performers who deserve to be seen. But with these service policies I cannot recommend the show.
4.5 stars for the Broadway performance only of Aint Too Proud, story of Temptations. Very lively presentation. Entry lines to theater were slow moving. Seats were seriously cramped and theater was cold. Am aware that it is in poor taste for men to wear hats indoors but I put on my hat during intermission.
It is a little crowded to get into the theater, but once you get to your seat it is amazing. It has character because of its age, but some things feel more outdated than antique. Every seat is a good one and the bathrooms are big enough that the lines arent too bad. Overall it is a very nice place.
Saw Aint too Proud the Temptations. Great show but the theatre seating is not the best. A big headed person say in front of me and it was hard to see. Purchased tickets at Times Square tckt for a 40% discount. Next time I will get a seat on the aisle in the middle first floor section.
The theatre is close to 100 years old! There is a certain charm that the newer theatres just dont have! The sound was awesome! Aint Too Proud is there now and could be for a while! I loved it! The seats are a little close, but thats just part of the Imperial experience!
This was my first time at a theatre, was not accustom to the atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful! If you are full figured or tall, you will not be comfortable in the seats for long. It was cramped, and overwhelmingly crowded. The play was exceptional, and worth the discomfort. The staff is willing to assist/accommodate you, as needed. Will travel to Imperial again.
Aint to Proud to Beg was an awesome play. The music brought back so many memories. The audience was singing along with every song. It was well done and the performances made it an experience to remember with a standing ovation at the end. My only problem was that the leg room was too short and the elbow room was too tight. It made the seating arrangements extremely uncomfortable. I guess that comes with a theater built in 1923.
Old world charm. A friend and I went to see Aint to Proud to Beg at this theatre. The seating was unexpectedly comfortable. Usually seating at a Broadway show can be extremely tight and uncomfortable. There was one intermission. Do not attempt to go potty. Long lines, second floor, walk up! But all in all, a nice theatre.
Came here to see Les Miserables and had a very enjoyable time. Ticket pickup was quick and easy, the service was good. They let me wait in the lobby for my fiancee without any issues. Though we were late, we were let in promptly and we were sitting and watching without disturbing too many people. The seats were tight on the sides so I found myself shifting often. The play itself was wonderful and the acoustic just as good. I did not try any other amenities in the theater but I will definitely come back.
Inter-mission to say the least. Im guessing due to the theaters historical feel they cannot change much of the facility idk. The bathroom situation was a total mess! They herded us in winding lines to the venues basement level making us think there were extra restrooms only to put us in an infinite line to come back upstairs. The lobby was shoulder to shoulder for drinks but security and it being an older crowd I think is what maintained everyone under control. Overall a nice experience.
The play about the life of the Temptations was awesome. This is one of the best plays Ive have seen in a long time. I am going back to see it again with family members to let them know the history of the Temptations. The props, singing, scenery, and costumes were outstanding.
This Broadway theatre is an iconic place to be in New York. Now you may be like dang the line is gonna take forever. They make it quick and easy to get in.You prollly wanna eat before. But they do have adult beverages and snacks.I saw the Temptations which was absolutely awesome. The cast was incredible and they really nailed it!Getting out of the theatre was easy too as they bring to right back out in to the energy of NYC and Broadway.
Last night my sisters and I took my mother to see the Temptations, the show was amazing. All the guys have such amazing voice and told the true story in a beautiful way. There staff at the imperial theatre was excellent. My mother is disable with a walker and everyone was very kind, patient and helpful. From the guy who checked our bags at the front to the guy who scanned our ticket to the young man and woman who told us where our seats were and that they check my mothers walker in for her to lay but not least Sheryl. She confirmedw had the right row etc and chatted with us off and on as we tried to get settled. She saw I was a little uncomfortable in my seating as Im a plus size woman and went out of her way to inquire if we could get moved to box seats. Who ever that person was who said yes and gave us that upgrade THANK YOU!!! MY MOMn I moved and she felt so special and had an excellent time. Will be back again.
This is a beautiful theatre! Saw the Great Comet twice both December 16 and June 17. The whole theatre had design elements of romance, warmth, enchantment, luster, and symmetric harmony. No matter where you sit, you feel apart of the cast as you are inches away to their ever moving positions. Yes, this stage set up was for the Great Comet, yet if you ask a security guard during intermission of the play, they will point out where the actual stage is for general productions.
My husband went to see the play the temptations. Play wae great. The only problem was, if you are a tall person you will not fit in the seats. We had to be moved to balcony seating. My husband is 65, i am 6. So if you go and you r tall, ask to be moved. They were very accommodating to us. Also loved the play.five stars.
This is one of Broadways classic older theaters. It is relatively small, and charming. We saw the revival of Carousel with Joshua Henry, Jessie Mueller, and Renee Fleming. The orchestra and every voice was perfect. The dance arrangements, by David Chase were fantastic. This truly is a must see!
Nice theater with an interesting stage setup that kind of winds throughout the seats. It allows pretty much everyone to have a good view of the performance. There isnt really anywhere to stand around and socialize before and after the show, and the only full bar that I saw was all the way down on the first floor back through the entrance where you gave your ticket, which I thought was a little weird. Only restrooms were on the second floor at the top of a flight of stairs, which meant that it was almost impossible to move in the hallways during intermission. Women were literally sprinting from their seats at intermission to try and get there before the line formed. This theater was definitely not meant to accommodate the number of people they are packing in there.
There are lots of great seats in this theater and the acoustics are pretty decent as is the legroom. When you are there look through the playbill at all of history that has taken place on that stage from shows that have premiered their to great actors and actresses who have started and or finished their careers there.
I saw The Great Comet here: staging and ambiance was spectacular. On the whole it was a magical experience. The downside was the sound bleeding in from the streets-- especially during the quiet, emotional parts of the play. But Im not a Broadway goer, so maybe thats a problem for all the stages? There are only one set of bathrooms, but they were big and efficient enough to get people in and out.
Theater was great until intermission. Dont wait until you have to use it bad to go to the ladies room. It is a 15 to 20 minute wait. I felt so bad for the elderly. If possible use facility before show not intermission. The line wraps around the corner up a large flight of stairs and around another corner. You are told what stall to use. The line is guided and moved alone orderly by ushers. They wont start show until the line is completed which is good. The show I seen was Aint To Proud to Beg. The Life of the Temptations Phenomenal!!
Even though I was three rows away from the stage, I could still see everything including the details of the show. You wont ever find a bad seat in this theater, every view is incredible. Unless someone tall sits in front of you and blocks your view so you have to lean to the left the entire performance, but thats not the theaters fault.
Saw Carousel from the very top row and that was very well worth the cost. The views from the top were not perfect, but we could hear everything perfect the entire show. It was nice sitting in the mezzanine because it was closer to the bathroom during the intermission and the tickets are significantly cheaper.
Worst experience ever me and my wife attending the imperial theatre February 28 to see aint to proud. The staff was very rule and not friendly and one lady was yelling at patron as they were headed to the men restrooms. Also, she reference to me being big calling me wide. I am really disappointed this was my first experience at Broadway play and would not consider attending another because of my experience.
Great acoustics. Les Miserables was wonderful here. Loved the set design & lighting & the cast. Just be aware while you can see the stage clearly from anywhere, the handholds by the rows are a little high and may partially block 10% of your view- which you can adjust by leaning your head to the side.
When the first song was performed, the lead singer sounded awful. I thought I was in for a bad night. However, the others sounded better yet the singing was uneven.it depended on the song. The production was put together with a concise time line. Could have done away with the bathroom scene which was unnecessary . The girl singers were fantastic.Overall, the show was enjoyable, but not as good as I was expecting it to be. I have never chosen a preview show before and now assume it might get better. Just wish I would have waited to see if this is true. The show left me wanting to see it again but will be too expensiveThanks and good luck
The play itself was fantastic! The seats are a little small. If your tall or a bit chunky the seats will not accommodate your size. Theres only one bathroom with long lines but the line moves rather quicky. However, if you have difficulty walking then you wont be able to use the bathroom upstairs. I saw one bathroom for the handicap.
The performance was great, but the physical theater to me leaves a lot to be desired. Getting in to see the performance was like herding cattle; needless to say the line for the ladies room was horrendous. And, in an emergency, I would not want to be in an audience trying to evacuate.
We saw Carousel The Musical here. Absolutely Amazing!! Easy to see right off of 45th Street servicing the Theater District in Manhattan. Parking on the street is available but it fills up fast especially on the weekends and at night. Parking lots near by. Clean facilities with a wheelchair accessible entrance. Public Restrooms. Nice Staff. We will definitely be going back.
The seats were quite cramped at this theater. The staff was rude as well.We saw “Ain’t too proud” and I was disappointed with the cast; especially the actor who played David Ruffy. He did not have the charisma and presence to portray such a legendary performer.Strangely enough, the actor cast in the more minor roles of both Elbridge Al and Smokey Robinson was a truly gifted performer. The highlight of the show was what is supposed to be a minor scene... Elbridge Al’s performance of “shout.”
My review is not about the show but the people who work in the theater. When we purchased the tickets I said I wanted 7 together. There is a group of us traveling with my mother for her 70th birthday. It was not until we got to the show that we discovered the tickets were divided up. In other words, they got us. Originally we were told they did not have 7 together. When he told me that I said we would have to find another show all of a sudden he found 7 together- but they are not together. Which we discovered the night of the show. It’s the same row but odd and even sitting which is on opposite sides of the theater. Honestly I could care less about going to the show except to be there with my mother. The manager did absolutely nothing to help except to say - we review every purchase you should have paid attention. I did not know the layout of the theater so how was I supposed to know. Complete waste.Very disappointing. Worst theater experience I have ever had in NYC.
The Aint Too Proud show was great. The theater is small, the seats are super tight, and theres only one womens bathroom. The line for the bathroom was all the way on the first floor and the bathroom is located on the second floor. Terrible! The cocktails were too expensive...vodka and soda $27...unacceptable!
Aint Too Proud is a great show. The Imperial is not a great theater. Folks, its not 1923, men are no longer five foot seven inches on average. With the prices charged for tickets they can afford to put in seats large enough for a 21st century male. They also can afford to put in more bathrooms. Two bathrooms cant handle 1400 people over the course of 2 hours, let alone 20 minutes.
Saw Aint to proud to beg (The life and times of the temptations) at the Imperial Theater. This emotional and riveting play performed by a multitalented cast will have you on the edge of your seat as they take you through the tumultuous journey of one of Americas greatest R&B groups.
Sat in the center seat of the front row. Wow!! You could see everything!! The conductor even chatted with us before the show. Yes, the conductors head was right in front of me, but it didnt bother me. I was looking up. The stage is low enough that you can see. I did find that when the whole cast was dancing or just out on the stage, I probably missed things because you focus on one thing and cant see the whole picture. It was quite an enjoyable experience. We saw Carousel.
Rating is for the theater not performance. While having been to many shows, this was the first for the Imperial. Be prepared for very long lines (both) during intermission; accompanied by rude staff. Bathroom situation is a mess. Layout of bars adds to the congestion and frustration during what was an otherwise phenomenal show. I get the theater is old, etc. etc. but there has to be a better way and its obvious the staff is worn out by it too. A few of us had to catch an elderly man who nearly collapsed trying to stand in the long line and help him be able to lean against a wall. If this is the theaters charm, it’s on target and we got the full experience.
Inefficient, unprofessional staff. Seating very tight, uncomfortable, Inadequate number of toilets. Show started 10 minutes late, intermission longer than 20 minutes trying to accommodate line for bathrooms. No handicap accessibility in the entire theater, at least that is what we were told at ticket window. Definitely not up to Schubert standards.
The venue is terrific to watch a show ( Les Miserable). There is not enough ladies rooms stalls and you may not get in at intermission. The much older woman checking tickets upstairs was yelling at people. ( I get yelled out for and walking too fast by her and not taking a program as I was joining my already seated daughter ) . Im over 50 and she said to me Young lady get back her an get your program! (LOL) . Nobody we encountered inside the venue was pleasant. The show was amazing, however.
Ive only gone to the box office and had interactions on purchasing some tickets for a play in September and they were very helpful in answering questions as far as the process for a person thats disabled as well as finding me good seats. You have to know the day that you plan to attend and also be flexible on the date in which you plan to attend.
Went here to see the ‘Temptations’ with the folks while they were visiting from out of town. Had an amazing time at this quaint historical theater. Would recommend getting here early as there can be a line to get in and navigating the surrounding streets can be a bit hectic. Definitely a good time and highly recommend!

2022-01-28Attended the final Broadway performance of Ain’t Too Proud in this historic theater. Box office and Usher crew are lovely. Overall great experience, again. Excited to see what production lives here next.

2022-01-16I surprised my mother with tickets to see Aint Too Proud. She has limited mobility so I feared this would be a very uncomfortable experience but not at all! Her seat was perfect and the associates there were extremely helpful. Also, there is no such thing as a bad seat in this theater. We had a full view of the entire stage. I cant wait to go back!

2021-11-16The Imperial Theater is a major broadway theater located in Midtown Manhattan.Designed by theater architect, Herbert J. Krapp and opened in 1923, the Imperial Theater has hosted various successful theatrical performances ranging from Dreamgirls, Fiddler On The Roof and Les Miserable. In November of 2021, I brought and treated my wife and myself to see sensational Broadway hit, “Ain’t Too Proud:The Life & Times Of The Temptations” at the Imperial Theater.Ain’t Too Proud is the most successful Broadway musical to be showcased at the Imperial Theater and after seeing the show, there’s no doubt as to the reasons why.The performance of the Ain’t Too Proud cast was absolutely amazing and they each excelled in all three areas that are included in a musical; acting, dancing and singing!!!The chemistry shared between the cast members was superb and spot on, and the performers sang as beautifully and effortlessly as the real Temptations. The dance moves performed by the actors particularly the actors who played Otis Williams & David Ruffin was simply magnificent!!!Aside from the performance, the Imperial theater provided comfortable seating and its interior decoration is a gorgeous sight to behold. Both my wife and were blessed to see a wonderful musical at a wonderful theater!!!

2021-11-22On November 14, 2021 I visited “Broadway” for the first time ever. I truly enjoyed the experience the theatre was clean, helpful and cheerful staff etc. This was my last stop before returning home. I checked out my hotel and headed to the theater which was abt two blocks away. Since I had a large piece of luggage and due to covid I couldn’t check it in. I had to be checked for security reasons. Therefore, a police dog had to sniff my bag. The process was quick and a representative of the theatre stayed with me throughout the process. She showed me where I could store my luggage within the theatre and escorted me to my seat! I sat several rows from the stage and the show was awesome!!! With that said, I’m already planning my next trip to see Micheal Jackson.

2020-03-17We watched the show Les Miserables and it was great. Great playing, great singing. The scene was wonderful, a really great venue for shows and musicals. The Imperial Theatre is very beautiful. The seats are nicely arranged and you have a nice view of the stage from all sides or rows.

2019-05-19I saw Aint too proud Temptations as a Broadway play. Great midsize theater. The seats are comfortable and not too tiny. They even have cushion boosters. Check on was quick and the ushers were friendly. The only thing missing was no coffee. The m&m bag was $5!!!! Bring your own candy!

2018-09-03Centrally located theater in Times Square. Came here to watch Carousel. Sat in center front mezzanine and had a great view. Show was amazing and seats were comfortable. There were no elevators as far as I could see. Since some seats were empty they let us move to seats closer up front.
