India House Restaurant in other cities:
Ordered delivery. The food was packaged with care to avoid spilling. I enjoyed the makhani chicken very much. It was a generous, flavorful portion. I enjoyed the large beef samosa. The spicy potatoes that came with rice were a nice complement. I was a bit disappointed with the naan that seemed to really lack flavor. I was expecting it to be better than store bought. The rice was a large portion and did not taste bad, but was not very flavorful. I feel like I have gotten better rice in frozen or packaged indian dishes at the supermarket.
The biggest problem with this place was the cook. He is the most ignorant, stuck up, over confident, stubborn cook ever. Which isnt a good thing. My sister ordered chicken biryani, but got veggie instead. The waitress was really nice, but when we asked for another chicken biryani, she replied, sorry, the chef says he refuses to make a other until you eat that one. But hes really busy right now. We were the oOnly ones there!! The Thali had uncooked potatoes, hard rice, and yogurt that was practically water. The waiter was really nice, and to be honest, I felt bad that she had to deal with such a rude cook. The bhaji was okay, but the only reason I give this place stars at all is my guilt for the waitress.
I had the biryani here and was disappointed. First of all,got vegetable biryani instead of chicken biryani .Plus, the chef didnt seem to care.Second, the biryani rice was chewy and the biryani completely lacked flavor. Finally, the service needs improvement. The buffet wasnt ready and the we were told the chef would take time to cook our meals because they were busy(We were the only people there). In conclusion, please avoid this restaurant!
We stopped by India House last night and were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was amazing, he explained and recommended choices on the menu. Every course of our meal down to the Garlic Naan was perfect. We are from out of town and live in a town (Chattanooga) that is a Mecca for the culinary delights. The India House in our book scores 5 stars for cleanliness, 5 stars for politeness, 5 stars for quality and value for what you get, and 5 stars for overall experience. We would recommend this particular site for anyone who loves new tastes and experiencesBravo Indian HouseTony & Krisie
I hadnt been here in years, and while it used to be wonderful, sadly it has either gone downhill or we hit an off night. We went on a Friday, about 7:30 and there was only one other table with guests. This didnt ensure good service, however, as there seemed to only be one cook and one waitress on duty. More attention seemed to be given to a couple takeout orders that came in by phone from folks who were greeted like regulars, than to our order. The main was very good, served quickly, and fresh. We shared a mulligitawny soup to start, and that too was served quickly. Both were good, and I would get them again.Unfortunately our main dishes took a long time, and the rest of the naan had gone cold. That would have been forgivable but the tandoori chicken I ordered was very disappointing. The pieces were tiny and very overcooked, and dried out. I also requested spicy, but this was bland and didnt even have a little side of hot pickle! I kept wishing I had ordered raita to go over it, but the waitress had disappeared and didnt come back to check on us until after we were long since done and had gone looking for the check, so I couldnt order any. I never even got a water refill despite having told her at the beginning I was very thirsty and specifically requested water as soon as we sat down and then drank more than half the glass before she had brought our soup.My boyfriend got the malaise kota, which he liked. We both enjoyed the large platter of onions under my tandoori chicken, and the rice was perfectly cooked and slightly nutty like a good basmati should be. The portions were good, and we both took home about half our main courses for lunch the next day. However both of us got serious indigestion shortly after dinner and didnt feel well all night. My boyfriend never gets sick from food issues and has volunteered in Africa and in disaster zones without ever once getting digestive problems or food poisoning, and so I didnt attribute it to the indian food until I had a few bites of the leftovers at lunch the next day, and got slightly sick exactly the same way again. At that point, my boyfriend told opted not to eat his and threw out the rest, which is incredibly out of character for a man who refuses to waste food.To be fair when getting our check, the waitress said it hadnt been a good day and she was exhausted, and since the cook seemed to be alone, we imagine we might just have stumbled in on a rare, very bad day. Hopefully, this place will return to the excellent quality I remember from before.
Ordered food online, the restaurant was closed by the time I arrived, even though the order was paid for and I arrived at the requested time. The restaurant did not even bother to call to say they were closing.Edited:Thanks for you response. I placed the order at the 998 S Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY 14620 at 7:53 pm on 9/24 through Postmates (order #191). Postmates sent me a text that the order would be ready for pickup one hour later. I arrived at the restaurant just after 9 pm. I was not refunded for the order. Maybe there was a miscommunication between Postmates and the restaurant?
Ive had far better Indian food before. I asked for my mango chicken to be extra spicy and it was mild to very little spice. Our food was sloppily packaged up also and spilled out a little when it was delivered. The Mango Lassi wasnt anything spectacular and wasnt worth almost $5. Kind of disappointed to be honest.
Among the worst food I have ever had in my life. You would do better buying frozen Indian food from Aldi. Chicken is among the driest I have ever tasted. Rice is obviously frozen and thrown in a microwave. Naan bread tastes like cardboard.Never order from this place. It is torture to eat.
This was my go to place and I still love it but for the last two times I ordered I wasn’t happy. The food didn’t have that Indian taste it use to have it was bland and naan taste stale not fresh last time I had expired yougurt desert. I still love this place but it wasn’t worth the money this time sorry
Great place to go if youre hankering for a hearty Indian meal. The soup is almost always to die for & everything else is pretty tasty too. Dont forget that you can get a free meal if you spend $25 at the market across the street. Its a buffet, so your results may vary on value.
Finally got around to trying the food at India House and we were not impressed. Everything was a little bit off with the food. The food was in desperate need of salt. Also the Nan was very doughy and did not seem like any Naan I have had in my life. The food wasnt bad but after my first bite I regretted not sticking with one of the other local Indian eateries in the area. I may try them again to see if the poorly prepared food was a fluke.
Some of the best Indian food in Rochester! We’ve done take out a lot from them and tonight we dined in for the first time. Restaurant was about half full and the only had one man working- thought we were going to have to wait a while but food came fairly fast and the man working the whole restaurant (manager?) was doing a great job. I’ve tried the chicken tikka, (usually my fav) the makhani,as well as the korma. The chicken korma was sooo good, I now have two favorites. Garlic naan is also delicious. Large portions and he gave us extra rice to take home with our leftovers. Glad this place is right around the corner from us! 😋
I had a party of 20 to cater in three days time, and sent an email to the address on their website saying so (and had nut/mint allergies to contend with). Amit replied later that day or the next and, after a back-and-forth on a couple of things, we had it settled. Ill say, I know nothing about Indian food, but with a google of some terms, it was very easy to figure out what I wanted to get (though I feel certain theyd have answered any questions I had). Pickup was easy and it was ready when promised; they even helped me carry them to my car and put down paper in the back if there was any leakage. Very reasonably priced, but I will say we had enough food for likely 30-40 people in the end... so you get PLENTY of food. :) Will absolutely use again.
Terrible vegetarian dishes. The best part was the veggie pokora which was drenched in oil. They didnt serve chutney with papad and the chutneys served with pakora was so diluted and stale. The puri was bad and aloo-gobi curry was tasteless. The rain that came with peas pilaf was too sour and stale. All in all, we are never going back to tgis place again.

2019-10-05Clean restaurant with plenty of seating. Server was attentive, and food came quickly. The menu had clearly labeled vegan items which I REALLY appreciated. The prices were great for how large the portions were. overall, good experience with deeelicious food that was packed with flavor.

2022-03-0522 dollars for raw non bread and 0 real chicken in my Chicken Tika Marsala. The “chicken” was the exact consistency of tofu, so screw you guys for trying to deceive people. The nan bread was the consistency of play-do and was very undercooked.I can understand you guys raising prices with inflation, but don’t raise prices and then rip people off. Among the worst food I’ve had in Rochester.

2022-04-04Great good, it’s all fresh with every order. The owner/cook is a hard working person. They get their ingredients and supplies from across the street at India store.

2022-02-18I use to eat here all the time but today was a disappointment, my chicken makhani was runny my bread was over garlicky and most of all my samosas were just peas What a $50 disappointment!!!!!!! Not authentic what so ever

2022-05-08The food was fair. The buffet was not hot, and I was wondering if it met health department standards. The lone waiter was disinterested and served cold tea.

2021-11-28The service was so so today. Food tasted great as far as I could tell. We asked for Chai tea for most of us at the table and I did not receive mine. I requested some later, it was not as good as some I have had elsewhere. It was bitter and missing any sugar. I eat slower than most. I never heard the waitress come over to ask if we were done. The check for the table showed up prior to my finishing. I consider this tacky. Doubt I will go there again.

2021-08-10The service was decent, and i appreciated that they labeled vegan and vegetarian items clearly. the food was only ok. the spicy vindaloo was not very spicy and tasted like hot sauce had been used instead of actual spices, and had a strong vinegar flavor. the potato curry was room temperature and lacked flavor. the chole had a very strong salt flavor. nice server, but would not recommend.

2018-10-06Im not quite sure if this is a restaurant on the upswing, or on the way down. They made some decent food. The price was substantial but not overboard. So come and give it a try and make your own determination.
