Authentic Indonesian grocery store but the HIDDEN GEM is Each week on Tuesday Warung Selasa makes homemade Indonesian food and serves it inside this small grocery store from 10am-4pm. Check her instagram for menu (changes weekly) and also send her a message on instagram or call to make reservation for dine-in or for pick up. The food is AMAZING!! The BEST Indonesian food I have ever tasted!! She makes her own Sambal sauce which was delicious - everything was so good. This is definitely the definition of a HIDDEN GEM!!!! We drove 2 hours for this experience & it was well worth it!!!
Great selection of Indonesian coffee and desserts. On Saturdays they have delicious prepared meals like rendang (spicy coconut beef), tempe (tangy fermented tofu), sweet chicken egg rolls and many many more. Pre-covid once a week they would set up two tables in their tiny space and serve home cooked meals.
The place is a hole in the wall but so interesting. The people were friendly and welcoming. Note: to get the food hot show up esrly Tuesdays and Thursdays. They bring thwir food fro. Philly on Saturdays. They have optikns to buy in the freezer. The food is good. Worth the trip.
Good hole-in-the-wall place to pick up your Indonesian dry or packed spices, ready prepared food to take home (entree, desserts, sweet and savory snacks), and more... Oh also daily specials of nasi rames. If they dont have it, they can tell you where to get/find it.You should at least visit this place once to really find out what they carry.
So...this place has obviously become popular due to some YouTube channel and fb videos making its rounds on the internet. Just so everyone who hasn’t watched the videos yet, this place is a grocery store in which they have 2 small tables at the back of the store in which they sell food. The food is very good in terms of tasting like a “home cooked” meal. It tastes very similar to my mom’s cooking. So if you’re wondering if it’s authentic etc, I’d most definitely say yes.Additionally, I believe the food is on a rotational basis...meaning it’s not always the same menu. So keep that in mind. You’re pretty much going in for a plate of indo food which consists of rice, meats, veges etc, which seems to be $10 per plate. Definitely worth popping in and trying!!In terms of the grocery store itself, it’s a standard no frills indo grocery store...so if you’re expecting something like wholefoods, you might as well turn around and walk out.
My favorite feature of Indo Java is every Tuesday is the Warung Selasa pop up by Chef Dewi. While having an ever changing menu of one Indonesian meal on Tuesday May be frustrating for some, I say “in Dewi I trust.” In other words, whatever she is making, that is what I am having and I know from experience it is found to be excellent. Find her Sunday Instagram post to see what she is planning to serve. If you see her Duck dish, beef tendon dish, Tripe dish, or Giant Meatball (baksa) with noodles, dm her to save an order. Don’t expect to waltz in and be guaranteed an order. They are almost all accounted for with pre-orders. She is amazing and has been noticed by the New York Times, CNN, and Andrew Zimmern if you needed any convincing. She also started selling yummy snacks and desserts to add to her repertoire
This place is probably the best hole in the wall in the whole city. nestled in the back is a tiny prep space where a women who graces us only once a week, with a single plate of food, resides. theres no thrills here but its not why you come. although youre in a tiny grocery store in a part of the city that has literally no greater incentive to visit besides a plate like this, you automatically feel at home is youre lucky enough to grab one or two of the four, and i literally mean four, chairs. i cant even describe how rich and generous the plates are but it doesnt compare to the glowing personality she serves with it. she will chew your ear out and i will listen to her wholeheartedly because she is willing to share her knowledge (and by that i mean some secrets)
INDONESIA 🇮🇩 Eat the World NYC review:Warung Selasa, or Tuesday food shack, is by now legendary in Elmhurst, especially amongst the Indonesian community. East Javanese chef Dewi has created a thriving scene for expats of the nation and lovers of Indonesian food in New York. Recently, a West Javanese chef has started cooking on Thursdays, making it easier to enjoy the wonders of this back-of-the-grocery popup eatery. Any day you decide to visit will be full of hospitality and delicious food, there is no experience quite like it.
I was told by my friend Lia of PJ that if i want a kue go to Indo Java either on a Friday or Saturday. It was a saturday and she was right. I finally found the kue.The bolu kukus taste as expected. The bika ambon look and taste id say about 80% of the bika ambon i knew in Tanah Kusir, Jakarta.I was so happy that i bought all the bolu kukus and the bika ambon and hopefully they will have other kue next weekend and more supplies. And another thing, I like the folks running this store. They make you feel welcomed.

2022-06-21Dewi is one of the nicest people Ive met! I had a prepared meal and she took the trouble to make it a little spicier for me, the way I like my Indonesian food. Everythings also reasonably priced, with a good array of snacks and delicacies. Call ahead if you have questions on which meals are available on a given day. She typically has more options on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

2022-08-10After reading this, youll want to always come here. Im born and raised, and a resident of Lower East Side Chinatown, and been coming to IndoJava, the main Indonesian bodega since 2019, after Fung Bros food recommended it. IndoJava bodega has almost all kind of main dishes, sambal, and different type of kue. Every Tuesday and Thursday, IndoJava cooks delicious lunches that you can have inside the shop or take out. The shop is small and cramped but a lot of essential ingredients

2020-12-09I came here on a Wednesday afternoon. They have pre-cooked food in the refrigerator and cooked savory and sweet snacks in the back. The options were limited by the time I got there. I ended up getting the fish head curry and prune layer cake. The curry came with two huge heads which I had in two meals. Not bad for $12. The curry was absolutely delicious. The cake was good and moist. I also bought their homemade sambal sauce which is dangerously spicy, but I love it! They also sell kaya jam, which I was so excited about. Kaya toast is a popular breakfast item in Malaysia and Singapore. Been having this every other day! I will definitely come back to try their other pre-cooked meals.

2021-08-08Friendly, considerate staff. Not many vegan or veg options, but I always buy the stuffed tofu when they have it. Probably the only place that has a stuffed tofu dish. Every other place I go for tofu, its usually prepared the same way like any other restaurant, which isnt necessarily bad, but I want something different sometimes.Customers come regularly for the meat dishes, so I assume it has to be decent.Great small store that has been around for some time.5 stars!
