My grand daughter and I spent Christmas/ her 10th birthday here and it was awesome. Everybody was exceptional! The doorman, check in staff, the concierge, the maid service, the breakfast staff, all went above and beyond. Our room was even upgraded due to my grand daughter celebrating her birthday. They even surprised her with an awesome treat upon arrival back to our room. I will definitely be returning!!
First time Ive stayed at this particular hotel, although Ive visited many in NYC over the years. We made our reservations through Magellan and got a good price compared with others in the area. The hotel has undergone a major renovation and the rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Great walk-in shower and a manual bidet in the room. We were pleased that our parking fees were not horrendous, as they are in other places. The hotel has a good location for theatre and restaurants, a short walk to Broadway since it is on 48th between Park and Lexington. Highly recommend it.
Stayed for an extended weekend before the end of the year in 2021. The holiday decorations were beautiful and had me all sorts of giddy. Rooms were tidy, beds cozy and heated tile floors in the bathroom were SUPERB! I was mostly excited about that, I think? I would have liked a smart-tv to cast streaming services onto for the evening when I was winding down but that was not a huge deal. The robes were pleasant, a bit stiff and scratchy but still nice. Loved the Keurig in the room too. The parlor was nice with great service. All in all a nice place and I honestly cant wait to go back.
Looks nice after the renovation, but once you scratch the surface the flaws are evident. The beds are very comfortable, but it is all ruined by the noise. Doors have half inch gaps at floor level, meaning you hear the hallway as if it is in your room. There is no sound proofing between rooms. A normal conversation next door sounds like it is in your room. God forbid you are in a connecting room… Midtown is loud and windows are not well isolated.I am (or should say was…) regular with Royal Ambassador status, yet every time they put me in a noisy room despite me asking to add a note on ny profile. It’s like no one cares.Staff are hit and miss. Not rude, but not exactly happy to see you.Shame, it could be good here but not getting a decent nights sleep for the price is unacceptable.
The room is super clean. Customer service is great. Hotel is located in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Short walk to Grand Central Terminal. Able to find restaurants close by with options. Walkable distance to Broadway Ave for shows. Room service team are extra nice, polite and accommodating. Kudos to front desk staffs and service teams. IHG Barclay has became my favorite home for my NY trip from now on. I have stayed at many different hotels in NY from boutique to chain hotels. This is the best one in term of location, cleanliness, room quality and top-notch services.
I’m writing this review as I am here staying. This is nothing luxurious.. My husband and I stayed here for the past 3 days.. so you do the math! The front desk staff is very rude and curt, passive aggressive. Especially Gregory! Due to inclimate weather we had to stay here. I’ve reached out to the general manager Sofia and still no response. This is not a luxurious hotel.. don’t waste your money! The food is a 1 star… $200 room service and the food is over cooked and salty! And bland! The rooms are a bit dated . Don’t ever get snowed in here! You’ll feel like a prisoner! I never write reviews! But the lack of response while I’m still here is very unprofessional and it’s evident that no one here has a degree from a reputable college in hospitality .
Decided to try Barclay and so glad I did. Impressed by the appearance outside and upon entry it was warm, classy and luxurious. Rucci was very helpful at front desk and assisted me with joining Ambassador and carefully explained all the details. Joining is a no brainier. Elevators were quick, quite and smooth. Our room was terrific - well appointed and impressed with linens and set up. Well lit bathroom and fabulous shower. (my own personal thing would prefer a bathroom door that closes rather a sliding door).Took advantage of the bar everyday - a great place to start and even better to end the evening. Bartenders were pleasant and provided very nice pours. The lobby and lobby bar is soothing, during happy hour energetic.Location cannot be beat. I usually stay upper 50s but this is better - easy walk to anywhere.Did the Sunday brunch that was very nice. Not pricey only because of the first class operation and property. This is a wonderful property I look forward to making my steady stay, as Sofia and staff make us feel so welcomed.
The minibar freaks me out because every item is like $16 and if u knock one, you have to pay for it. This hotel claims to have luxury, but their exorbitant prices make it less fun. But the staff and event staff were great, and the vegetarian food was always exceptional.
Nice comfortable hotel, very helpful friendly staff. Situated central with easy access to all locations via subways.I would not come to New York again as its very expensive and poor value for money. A small bottle of beer is between £9-£13 with tax and a tip.Get your evening pre drinks in from the liquor store.
The hotel has very clear negatives and positives. On the positive front, the cleaning staff are fantastic! Flexible and proactively looking to accommodate, they were simply great. We worked from the hotel room for 5 days, and every day they did everything they could to cause the least disruption to our day that would be possible. Additionally, the quality of the bed was good, as was the bathroom. On the negatives, for the price of the room the space was tiny. Barely enough room to pull out the chair to sit at the desk. The tv remote was partially broken (several buttons did not work), and there was no room to even open the suitcase. Additionally, everything is ridiculously overpriced. One (small) cup of tea cost $10. Finally, the staff were awful. For some reason, our key cards stopped working a few times, which the reception staff then fixed but not in a particularly friendly way. Finally, when I came downstairs (at 9am) to sit at the bar/café area to have a tea, the only table that wasn’t set up for food was for four people. So I sat there (thinking this would disrupt the staff less), and had an angry waiter approach me. He basically told me if I didn’t eat food (even though I wanted a tea), I wasn’t allowed to sit there. After pushing back, he said I could but that if any party of 4 arrived he would kick me out. Would expect better service than this!
The front desk was perfect. I got an early check-in 3 hrs ahead of time. The breakfast was not that good compared with its price. The waiters were not friendly at all (not probably sure that because I’m Asian or not).I got 25USD credit but they didn’t automatically deduct on my room bill when I have breakfast.
Where to start. The entire stay was so bad I couldnt wait to get out and leave. - the rate through IHG was much higher than other websites. - the rooms were small and the hotel refused to change or upgrade or rooms. - the cleaning staff wasnt able to clean our room daily even with a specific request to their manager and hanging the sign outside our door for the entire day. - even if they did clean the room, there were never enough towels, they hang out dirty towels that were on the floor. - the windows were so dirty, you couldnt even enjoy looking outside to that sad view. - the bathroom amenities are a sad story. mismatched from different brands with poor quality mostly from Dove, looked like came from a cheap drug store. - one of the beds had a dent on the mattress and wasnt comfortable to sleep on, even after asking to replace the mattress we still couldnt have a good nights sleep. we had backache our entire stay. - If you call guest service to get anything, theyll tell you that theyll get back to you but never do. - we had packages delivered to our hotel and took them forever to locate and give to us. - When we requested late check out the lady on the phone literally snapped at me and refused to do so. Why am I an IHG member? I dont know. This was the worst stay in a hotel. I stayed in a holiday inn express that had better service and was more comfortable than this. I stayed in a motel and b&b on the roads that had better service. It is very sad to see how bad this hotel has become. Me and other guests in the hotel were complaining of the same problems when we talked one night at the bar/lobby. We all were loyal customers to this hotel and we all agreed on never coming back again. This was my favorite place to stay in New York. Never again.
Really nice modern and clean hotel in a great NY location, comfortable bed although pillows are on the thick side. Really well decorated room and bathroom, well stocked mini bar but on the expensive side…. you are allocated $25 room credit per night it barely covers 2 soft drinks.Overall I’d say it was good value for money for midtown 5* hotel.
What an excellent location for a holiday weekend in the city! The hotel staff was accommodating and friendly. The room was immaculately clean. We appreciated the Front desk finding a room for us with our early arrival. That made all the difference for us to see more and do more!
Our stay at NY Barcley was wonderful. All startend with a terrific support during the booking process, the Front Office Manager and her team were amazing. The room for 5 days was just perfect, very comfortable and super clean. Although club lounge was closed we got a package which compensated such event very well. The location in Midtown can‘ t be better, and the room was amazingly quiet (12th floor), given the traffic in such central location. Breakfast was of high quality and very tasty. If we get back to NYC, this is our place to stay.
The experience was alright not awful and not fantastic. The staff were nice enough did not seem thrilled but were not totally awful. The beds were comfy and the room was spacious. When we arrived we knew we needed an extra blanket so we called down and were told its on its way. We waited in the room for a hour before we figured they were not coming and left to start our sight seeing. When we got back the front desk was busy so we went to the room let some time pass and called down for the blanket. No answer let another half hour go by called again no answer again we called 4 times before I decided to send a text to their messaging service. The next morning we got woken up by the alarm in the room at 5 am which was awful considering we never set it. Everyday this alarm was set and we had to make sure it was turned off. We even got woken up at 5am from neighbours room alarms except no one was beside us so it was just beeping for 10/15 minutes. Not sure if alarms are automatically set but it was weird so make sure you check your alarm if you dont want to wake up at 5am.Location is nice and easy to call a car the staff outside were very nice and would create conversation and helped us in anyway they could.Overall it was not awful but I would not recommend or stay again. I dont understand the high ratings Ive stayed in hotels with the same rating and this hotel is no where near their level.
Nice hotel with very modern rooms. Although bellman expecting a tip just for getting our bags in the back room is a bit…cheap… I already paid a premium to be staying at this hotel. I shouldn’t have to be handing out money as I go through the lobby. I understand it’s the United States but for your foreign guests it makes us think the hotel isn’t paying you. Which in turn makes the hotel look bad.
What an outstanding experience. The entire staff is very attentive and so courteous. Our best experiences were with the dining room staff, They were always there for anything you needed. Everyone from the reservationist to the doorman ,exhibited old fashioned customer service. There was never a question they couldnt answer and it was always done professionally and with a smile. Maybe because it was holiday time but, we have never enjoyed a stay in NYC any more then we did this one!
This is a beautiful historic building with comfy bed and furnishings. Its location is very convenient. However, we had the misfortune to be on the same floor as a film crew filming a series. The actors who occasionally filled the hallway weren’t the problem. It was the staff that moved out the set materials from 2 AM until after 8 AM. We had the misfortune of bring next to the service elevator. Dinging bells, loud thumps and bangs, doors banging open and shut, loud voices calling out, laughing and shouting. The noise continued even after we called the service desk and spoke to the manager. Other guest were disturbed by the sounds, we heard voices in the hallway requesting movers to be responsible and respectful. The bed provided was very comfortable, the noises were disruptive. Either the floor dhookd have been vacated or themateridl moving done during daylight hours.
I used the Chase Free night and I am Ambassador member, the reservation was clearly indicated it is FREE. Before I left the hotel on March 27, I checked with the Front Deck to see any outstanding changes, the staff in the Front Deck told me: no extra charge. Unfortunately, I see two surprise changes on my credit card, 3/26 $40.17 and 3/27 $49.68.So can you refuse to pay a New York City hotel resort fee?
Loved our stay here - its well located for 5th Avenue, Central Park, Grand Central (theres a pedestrian tunnel that takes you right in to the main concourse!) and has everything youll need for a great stay in Manhattan. 51st St subway is only a couple of minutes walk and the Danish bakery on the corner of the block does amazing coffee.
I love staying at the InterContinental New York Barclay. The hotel is in a great location and close to many restaurants and attractions. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I also enjoy the restaurant, which has a wide variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Overall the hotel is a bit dated and could do with a facelift. Didnt have to speak to anyone to experience any rudeness so luckily no one ruined my mood.Room size was good for 2pax, bathroom a bit small, no separate working desk, bathroom amenities not the best quality so best to bring your own. Breakfast starts at 7am which is a bit late for my liking. Mini bar is fully stocked leaving only a small space for guest to use which I find that to be very inconvenient.Amenity fee: ignore all those posts complaining about it, every hotel charges this and they clearly explain it to you at check-in. Theyll give you a card with the title amenity fee on it and it tells you again what it is and what youre entitled to.Service/quality/price: I think this is a perfectly fine hotel and reasonably priced for NYC. Dont go expecting someone to rush over the open the door for you because it doesnt happen in ANY HOTEL in NYC. Intercontinental somewhere else may have much higher service standards but dont compare it with NYC. This place is good enough in NY standards.Dont expect the level of service that you get at intercontinental Dubai or Shanghai. This is NYC and people are rude so if you dont like it then avoid them.
Positive: Nothing I will never return to this hotel again. Ad mentioned --- per night. We stayed for 3 nights. Thats ---. Plus tax and fees. It became ---. Then another 300 for destination fee upon arrival. Thats ---. It magically doubled. Negative: Nothing I will never return to this hotel again. Ad mentioned --- per night. We stayed for 3 nights. Thats ---. Plus tax and fees. It became ---. Then another 300 for destination fee upon arrival. Thats ----. It magically doubled.
There is something about the Barclay on 48th which is at once comforting while also being hard to nail down. The history of the building is all around you as you enter the lobby. The rooms are appointed well with some fun extras (I had one with a heated bathroom floor!). But I think it is the people which make this my home away from home in NYC. The staff - always warm and welcoming. Their passion for hospitality shinning through even when they are very busy. You really feel like you are staying in their own home. Then there is Bowie - if you are lucky enough to run into that little fur ball and instagram mascot, your day will be brighter, no matter what NY threw at you. There are many places to stay in NY, some more expensive and some less. But for me it is the Barclay. Where I know the energy of the city will be a bit softer and happier.
I’m leaving a review since they are ignoring my emails. My parents and I have been to the other intercontinental location in Times Square. After covid, that area got a little sketchy with homeless people and crimes (I live in NY). My dad was visiting and needed a place to stay. He loved that hotel but since the area is not safe I decided to book a room in a different location, Intercontinental Barclay expecting it will be similar to the Times Square location. This place is noth worth it. You get office building views, can’t even keep my window open because you can literally see people working in the buildings across the hotel and the rooms are really really small. We got a room in a 4th floor and after complaining to the front desk, they upgraded us to the 14th floor but it was the same. You can also hear people talking in the halway. My dad and I have been staying at the hotel for 3 nights with breakfast included. Total was around 1500. The first time my dad went to The Parlour in the lobby to get breakfast, I was not present but he asked the manager if there was a table available outside, around the bar area and the manager said no becase they are reserved. He says the entire time he was having breakfast in a different table, there was no one sitting at the tables he asked for. The next day, we went back for breakfast and I asked for a table near the bar area and the same manager said we can’t sit there because it’s reserved. I thought maybe there really is a reservation this time and someone might be coming soon but again no one was using the table the entire time we were there. My dad took it very offensively and wondered if it was a racial discrimination (we are asian) since it was not the first time she has said no when clearly there wasn’t anyone using those tables. Did those tables really have reservations? If so how come no one showed up for the entire time we were having breakfast there?
This hotel is beautiful and located conveniently on the East side away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square but close enough to almost everything one needs to experience NYC. The staff are all friendly and provide excellent customer care. The accommodations are comfortable, clean and peaceful. The breakfast is delicious and the bar is friendly and inviting. Everyone I encountered there is friendly and welcoming. Want to especially thank Annamara Gayle for all she does.
Long lines for check-in and check-out with only one desk agent. When checking out desk agent REFUSED to give me a copy of the bill. Said it was sent to the Master Account. Nothing but a LIE. This hotel is NOT one where bills are available on the IHG website. On the website it says you must contact the hotel for the bill. When calling the IHG number on the websiite, The auto-answer takes the reservation information and then says the information is being sent to the hotel. I have to have a copy of the bill to file a travel voucher to get paid. Still waiting for a copy of the bill after three days.
Amenity Fee includes $25.00 Food & Beverage Credit,Per Day Guest has to be offered 24 hours. If you stay overnight its only offered 5:00pm to midnight. The Fee only gives guest a time the day of their stay. Have guest 24 hours until they check out the hotel for reservations. Give Advance information would be valuable.
PROS: This is a beautiful old hotel in a great location. The gym is well stocked and even has a BOSU which I appreciated. Great bar and bar staff. Breakfast is pricey but really high quality with many hot and cold options. CONS: Room design/wall thickness was such that I could hear EVERY word and noise from my neighbors. I realize that hotel staff cant do much about this but this is key reason I am unlikely to stay here again. Another problem was 25 wait to check in. They said: Thank you for your patience, someone is late in for their shift when I would rather have just heard we are sorry to have kept you waiting so long.
Many people are annoyed about the resort or amenity fee whatever you want to call it but at this hotel it was handled in a strange way. You pay $35 per day and you get $25 as a credit. They count Wi-Fi as a benefit but it’s really free at every ihg hotel especially if you are a Spire member. The dry cleaning credit which is $20 for the entire stay not per day is useless considering that one shirt costs $20. So we thought staying 3 nights we are getting $75 in total as a amenity credit and so we went to the bar and had a couple of drinks. at check out we found out that the $25 have to be spent per day and you can’t combine. Nobody told us this little detail when we checked in. After having an argument at check out we noticed that the credits were not even applied correctly. I think this was our last stay at this hotel. I felt ripped off leaving
Nice location, very close to Grand Central Station and within walking distance to Central Park, which is wonderful. The room is small compared to other Intercontinental hotels we’ve experienced across the globe. They provide pod machine to make coffee and tea in the room but none of the coffee pod selections taste decent. I’ve tried all 3 coffee options provided, and all made me scream in agony.I don’t understand why they put the milk pod and sugar in cardboard boxes. This is so environmentally unfriendly. If anything, please improve your coffee selection. Or replace the pod with electric kettle so we can have hot water and brew our own coffee. Thank you.
A nice hotel in a good location but really disappointed to see they are just trying to “milk” customers with add in fees:#1 - A non negotiable $35/night “Amenity” fee added. I don’t like this practice at places like Vegas but at least there it’s charged for pools etc. here there aren’t really any amenitys and it’s just an added charge so they can present rooms at a lower price on comparison sites. Yes you get $20 of drinks but I’m in New York I don’t really want to be eating / drinking at the hotel.#2 - On top of this Amenity fee for decent speed internet they want another $22/night - fast woof isn’t covered in the Amenity fee it’s extra.I book these nice hotels for service levels and expect a high level of amenities and service as a standard not to be told there are a load of extra fees when I arrive.Intercontinental please just increase your room prices by 35/night and get rid of this stupid daily fee we want to know what we are paying when we book.Spoiled what would have been a nice experience by annoying me which is a shame it’s a nice hotel.
Overall I liked the hotel and it was a great location. I would have given this four or five stars, however, I had awful customer service. When checking in we were given a card and told to make sure we utilized our $25 food and beverage credit a day. We made sure each night to stop by the hotel bar due to this. When checking out, we received our bill without the credit applied. When I called about this, the customer service representative was extremely rude and refused to help me. I was told that we were told we should receive it and he did not care. He told me a manager would reach out and I never received a call. Due to this experience I do not recommend staying here and will not be returning.
We recently traveled to NYC for a short stay and the woman that checked us in said 1 of our 2 rooms was available around 2pm. We went upstairs with our luggage and the room was still occupied. We went back downstairs and spoke to a different employee and they apologized and took our luggage. They called back 2 hours later at 4pm to let us know both rooms were now available. We checked in and went to our rooms. The towels in the bathroom were clean, but were in terrible condition with lots of ripped strands coming off the edges on all the bath towels in our room. For the price we paid for 2 rooms for 2 nights and for being an Elite Platinum level member I was hoping for a better experience.
I live in Connecticut and whenever I go down to NYC, I always look forward to staying at the Intercontinental Barclay. It is very conveniently located a few blocks away from Grand Central Terminal. The hotel rooms are fabulous with luxurious interiors. The staff are amazing. Special thanks to Gregory who helped me during check-in and Katrina who is part of the housekeeping staff of the 15th floor where I stayed this time. I look forward to staying again very soon.
Nice hotel, great staff, good gym, clean and tidy but very expensive for what it is, feels very corporate…could benefit from nicer products in the bathrooms and a little more tlc.If you don’t have breakfast incl in your room it’s $60 which seems a lot. Everything is an add on and it really adds up.
We had a comfortable stay at the Intercontinental Hotel NY Barclay. The hotel is a walk away from the Grand Central Station. An Ole & Steen Lagkagehuset cafe is right next to it; and there are many restaurants and bars in the area. The room is clean and the beddings are soft and comfortable. The shower has good water pressure. The wifi is fast.NB special mention to front desk staff Shauna - keep up the fantastic work!
We’ve just stayed at this hotel for the second time and on check out we’re told that we had to pay an extra $350!When we asked what for, the receptionist very rudely, said it was a hotel tax. Since we’ve got back home, we’ve learnt that this is a sneaky way for some NYC hotels to avoid paying tax by not fully disclosing the room rate per night and we arenot legally obliged to pay this extra amount. How deceptive!Such a disappointing end to our stay in New York. We won’t be using this hotel again.
The Intercontinental Barclay is a hotel that as other Intercontinental Hotels made the customer feel like a special guest... that was pre Pandemic however. Today, I realize this is not the same Barclay even despite the reno. The charge through the Amenity Fee, the lack of respect from the hotel manager about this special stay (anniversary), tells me I should have stayed elsewhere.
Positive: Location is convenient. Negative: Service was disappointing. We asked for luggage stand and 2 hours later still nothing. We came back at the end of the day and no luggage stand. Front desk would not pick up the phone and I went down and had to put in another request which was ignored.
Writing this while I’m still at this hotel for another three nights. You can’t get anyone to answer any call from the room - Operator, Front Desk, or the ironically named “Exceptional Service” button - it just gives you Muzak for 47 minutes then somebody picks up, then immediate hangs up. God help us if there’s a fire. The wifi doesn’t work. There’s a constant BANG BANG 24/7 that I think is the lifts but who knows (or cares)? The nail that sticks out of the corner of the bed has dug a bleeding gash in my leg. And we’re STILL waiting for a bathrobe and towels a day after begging Front Desk in person (because did I mention nobody answers any phone. Ever) for them. One positive: the room is large abd apart from lethal nails and the 24/7 BANG BANG comfortable and so gets the 2 stars. The rest gets zero.35th anniversary and we should have stayed at The Peninsula. So should you.Three more sleepless nights till I can leave this place. If you’re a Hotel Manager reading this, sort it out!
Peter hastily checked me in and made it clear that he was off the clock . He failed to match the 299 rate shown at check in Priceline .He assigns me a room however he did not update the system . I check in yo room and was in there at least 15 minutes . I noticed the filth hair everywhere .. I go downstairs to complain the check in clerk runs for her life that she had just assigned that room to a guest . She tells me to step aside as she did not want the white guest to know about the severe security blunder . Imagine a stranger having keys to your house. The manager was to call me it’s a week on Thursday and no he has not called. Unacceptable
Terrible service. Front desk promises one thing and does not deliver. They are too busy to assist. They do not provide advance notice that your booking includes breakfast or not, charged anyway. Not transparent nor willing to work with customers. Lots of undisclosed fees, be careful. Very rude and bad customer service. Called manager but does not care about customers. I would never stay here again!
Doormen didn’t do their job, they didn’t help me with my luggage and did not greet me or ask if I need assistance with bellhop. They just stared at me confused while I was unloading my luggage from the trunk of my Uber. Check in staff were unprofessional and impolite. My vacation experience was comparable to a 3 star hotel for half the price. I should have stayed at my regular Times Square Intercontinental location. Thought I would give Barclay a chance but I deeply regret it.
I was with a screaming swirling HTM…yet Treated with the kindness and respect of discretion and self-capacity, if not just at least “He got it.”… Beautiful, regal nearly, appointments, with large frescas and artwork, but most importantly, BATHROOMS!!!! Very helpful and respectful, respectable, dignified staff.
I love this hotel. Ive been staying here since the 90s and their renovation a couple of years ago boosted my love for it. The desk is professional, the lobby divine, and the rooms absolutely wonderful. I just cant say enough about this hotel. Luxury personified. Well done!
Talk about a professional front desk/employee from the way he spoke to the way he passed the info and honoring the member statues “arthur” i think is a person the hotel has to appreciate and consider of keeping him and teaching his colleagues how to be like him thank you for the upgrade and thank you for an easy check in and easy check out and for the nice roomThe only thing the hotel should provide is daily complementary water bottles or even just at check in its fine would be PERFECT
I really think that its a Great Hotel but Bad management ... Front desk staff, just dont care about anything.... you can wait or not they dont care, no help either if you are loaded with bags... rooms are nice, bedding is good, location is great, just the staff.... no management i assume ...if you are lucky you can check in very quickly but dont expect a warm welcome, and if you dont need anything from anyone you will have good time ...
Fabulous stay with my cousin this past weekend. Wonderful location close to so many attractions with quick access to the subway. This might also be the CLEANEST hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms and common areas were remarkably well-kept, and the rooms were very quiet. A great value, as well. I will absolutely stay again. Thank you!
The front desk staff expected me and everything was ready and waiting for me. The room was lovely and clean. I had a couple of meals including breakfast which were all very good. The bar was nice and very relaxing. I enjoyed my stay very much. I will return in the future.
After months of weekly stays I go to breakfast and asked for a table, he asked me if I was having breakfast and I told him I didn’t know yet. At that point he told me to move that the table is only for breakfast. It was 9:50 the room was empty and know one was at the station taking names or waiting in line.
With the Intercontinental/IHG brand I had much higher hopes. The rooms are nice (bathroom fixtures small but then again I used to be an NFL lineman and so everything is small). However, the staff cannot seem to do anything, and the billing on exit is so confusing you cannot tell if you were correctly billed. And their answer is trust us. Better places to stay, though this is easy access to the area. However, there are a lot of better alternative places.
We booked this hotel minutes after cancelling another hotel I had booked around the corner and was not happy with. It was a price increase but was definitely worth it. This hotel is the definition of a 4 star hotel. Excellent service, and staff and rooms. Location was perfect, close to everything. Would definitely stay here again my future stays in NYC
This wouldnt have been the first place that came to mind in terms of a two week NY visit, but I encountered an offer via TravelZoo and once I saw the location and the amenities, etc., I figured it was worth a shot. The stay has been great, aside from all of us being masked in the hotel, you wouldnt realize were in the middle of COVID. The staff is warm and welcoming (extra shout outs go to Sharon at the front Desk and the wonderful Alicia who is no doubt worthy of extra special recognition in the housekeeping dept). While some services are limited due to the pandemic, the staff goes out of their way to accommodate any needs, and the attention to detail and cleanliness is really great. Definitely a location I will recommend to other folks headed into town.
In all fairness, I could leave a three-star review for this hotel, for the quality of the room. But Id like to leave one star to factor in the great inconvenience of booking, and for the con that this hotel is running. It will, hopefully, be read by management.I booked three nights at an average price of $200 per night. I paid additional fees for taxes at 14%, and a mysterious service charge at $40 a night. When I got my email confirmation and saw there is an additional $120, I called back and talked to somebody about what the charges are. The customer service rep danced around the question is if he didnt understand me. We were (quite obviously) cut off mid conversation and I received no return phone call. I then called back and spent 20 minutes with another customer service rep that initially could not tell me about this service fee and why it was on my account. After much trouble, I realized it was for internet wi-fi, a free breakfast, and laundry service. I did not request or care to receive this service, and requested the charge removed. Please bear in mind it was every bit of 20 minutes just to get to this point in the conversation. Rather than remove the charge, I have to call again and talk to a supervisor when the supervisor is available tomorrow. Another phone call will push me over 60 minute mark to simply book a hotel. Not impressive. This should be in an illegal business practice, a scam, in short.Additionally, when I called initially and requested the best priced room, I was told there is a room for $299, I asked if that was the best price room and then told there is a room for $239. When I said thats too much and I wasnt interested I then was given a better price. (Im over 50 years old and understand very well what upselling is. It occurs in nearly every sales practice. A hotel is supposed to tell you the best price room when that is what you specify.)I will never again waste over an hour to book a simple hotel in the city of New York when there are many choices. Shame on InterContinental hotel for this bogus business practice.
Mistakes happens ,errors are human but when a series of mistakes keep going on you start asking questions how a supposed 5 stars hotel is managed.More than 2 months ago I booked a week end club IC room, the description comes with breakfast at the lounge afternoon tea, evening canapés.A week before arrival I received the usual upcoming stay e mail.On arrival I checked innNo thank you for loyaltyNo welcome amenity(used to be points or drink vouchers)Assigned room 733 which sits close to the lift and adjacent to cleaning staff/housekeeping room.Room preferences been saved into my profile for ages as high floor and away from lift but I guess 2 months weren’t enough for the hotel to respect or even read my profile, this is the total contradiction of my preferences.Anyway I was bit annoyed no ambassador complimentary water in room or bathroom and no indication anywhere minibar water could be used at that purpose.Went down to the club lounge to find out it’s closed. Now this hotel was selling up to my arrival club room, description haven’t changed and checking the hotel website no warning. On top of that the check in staff seems no aware of anything, did she know the type or room booked???is she aware the lounge is closed?or does she know there is even something called club lounge. After raising the issue I was met by a lady who explained the closure and offered complimentary breakfast and 25$ daily minibar ,and let me say it this not satisfactory, this won’t make up to what I paid for and I was given no choice but to face fact and after 8 hours flight from london I wasn’t gonna start searching and moving hotels but I was definitely sure my extension will be cut short and I will move out.During my stay I sent e mail to GM with all my concerns. And here I will say the total failure of the GM who had the opportunity to rectify the situation.Another respectable property the GM would have sent some fruits with an apology letter but don’t expect this at Barclay. You would have expected from GM to make sure the rest of the stay goes smoothly. You would have expected the GM to alert the staff so someone will meet me at check out and make sure everything is ok.Instead at check out I have to argue for the breakfast to be removed from the bill, yet again my minibar consumption was subject to deduction from my ambassador perks and amenity fee but my 2x25$ promised were not there and frankly I gave up explaining to the lady who seems not aware of anything and I accepted to pay extras for minibar.I will blame first the agent who promised me the compensation for not adding any notes,I will blame the GM for delegating the task of liaison to the manage who again didn’t make sure of anything nor bothered to send someone make sure everything is ok.This review is not addressed to the hotel as they clearly showed what kind of chaotic property they are.My booking was made with IHG who should be responsible to deliver what they advertise for.I bought a product which wasn’t available and I wasn’t given any advance notice to make my choice of accepting replacement or not.A royal ambassador who don’t get his benefit for club access is entitled up to 100$ Per night compensation or 10.000points per night and the rule should apply to any guest in same situation.Thankfully there is another IC in the city where I moved to for the remain of my New York stay and they were miles better and delivered a far better experience.
This hotel is super convenient to midtown. The fitness center is well equipped. However, the rooms arent that great. Compared to similar hotels with other brands, the rooms were sparse and motel-like: no glassware, just plastic wrapped plastic cups and small bath products. Still a value, but not a 5-star experience.
We loved our stay at Intercontinental Hotel Barclay. The hotel is beautiful and historic, the rooms are spacious and lovely and the location is perfect. We stayed eight nights and felt very comfortable. We enjoyed cocktails and dinner in the bar, and breakfast in the restaurant. It was everything we needed.
My wife and I booked our Ambassador Anniversary night and stayed three nights total. We are NJ residents and took NJ Transit and the subway and sidewalks to the hotel.Online check-in made our interaction with the desk brief. So brief that our IHG membership and Spire Ambassador status were not mentioned. We did not receive a room upgrade. The Barclay King room was generally in excellent shape and well decorated. We were pleasantly surprised by the heated bathroom floor! Everything in the room worked. The only problem was that the headboard was torn with a angled rip about 2 inches on each side (see picture). We were surprised that it wasnt repaired or at least taped. We both got a solid sleep in the room. The usual NYC noise was muted. There were some changes for the pandemic. Housekeeping was only a change of towels and trash once a day. The Club Lounge was closed and the restaurant and bar had reduced hours. Mask requirements are merely suggestions and not well enforced, to our dismay. We turned down several elevator rides with the unmasked. In general the hotel did the best that they could with the situation. Many 4 and 5 star hotels around town are still closed. All in all it was a comfy place to base our few days in NYC.
I’m a Platinum IHG member and always find IHG recognition far inferior compared to other chains (not permits name them here!). That said, this property is nicely renovated and the room was very comfortable with quiet (though pillow selection was non-existent-all very thick pillows). That’s the good part…if you’re on an expense account, or don’t care about additional charges, breakfast cost etc you can stop reading here. If you’re retired, like me, and paying out of your own pocket (and don’t like fees and crazy expensive buffet breakfasts), you need to know this hotel is not user friendly! First, there’s the amenity fee of 40 dollars per day. You get a 25 dollar food/beverage credit (plus dry cleaning if you want it) and wifi (which I get free anyway). To me, it’s not reasonable to charge this outside a resort that truly has special amenities (even then it’s just a hidden way to boost net room revenue).I planned to use the credit (I stayed 2 nights) for a breakfast. But I was warned twice, it’s “use it or lose it” (by midnight EACH DAY! Plus a continental breakfast in a makeshift location is 30 dollars per person (so 80 dollars for two people, incl tax/tip). Forget that!I used it to take 1 bottle from the minibar (which I discovered after costs 25 dollars incl service charges & tax!) Anyway after the first night I checked the bill at the front desk and only the amenity charge appeared. Arthur assured me that the minibar charge is instantaneous so he assured me that there’s no additional charges.I did the same thing on day two and again, at checkout Arthur assured me there would be no additional charges (that the minibar cost was offset by the amenity fee). The hotel (unlike every other hotel I’ve stayed at) does NOT send an email copy of the folio before or after checkout. Three days after the stay, I checked my credit card account and there’s a charge of 134 dollars for the second night’s stay!I logged into my IHG account and can’t access the charges either. They indicate I have to contact the hotel just to get my bill! It’s ridiculous and not user friendly on so many fronts! I urge the hotel to get rid of the amenity fee. This has annoyed me enough that I’m not sure I’d stay there again.
Overall stay was unfortunate, TV had maybe 5 or 10 working channels that did not line up with the guide. Nothing like spending hundreds of dollars a night to get stuck with TV LAND.As a Spire elite member I didnt get any sort of membership recognition or upgrades as stated in the benefits package. I have consistently been treated better at a Holiday Inn Express across town.Overall youd think you would get a more luxurious stay in an InterContinental in midtown Manhattan but that does not seem to be the case.Oh dont worry, theyll charge you an additional $50/night in amenity fees - not sure what that covers...Overall would not stay again.
Great place to stay even in the worst times for visiting nyc. Hotel did their best to make sure we were happy. I hope for the return and also a 24 hour dine-in menu soon. Very clean and tidy cleaning services and meal deliveries. The staff was more than willing to do what they could. Make sure that if you get a chance to meet the hotel pup - Bowie, do so. The girls loved it. The General Manager was so nice to our family. The Concierge even went out of his way to ensure that we were taken care of the entire time. Being that the President was in town, we missed out on a few adventures, but this is where the hotel did their most to make sure we were happy. Thank you IHG-Intercontinental Barclay for our stay while we were there.
Positive: Great experience at this hotel. The staff was exceptional from the maid in the hallway asking me if my room was satisfactory, to the hotel check-in, to dealing with the bellman regarding packages I received. The breakfast buffet was delicious too. Negative: Nothing. Cant wait to go back!
Positive: The room was awesomely clean. I loved the tiled shower and the provided toiletries. It was extremely quiet. The bed, sheets and pillows were luxurious. Negative: Room information was provided on the TV. I was surprised there wasn¿t any written information was provided in the room regarding room service and the minibar. It wasn¿t until the day I checked out to realize this information was available on the TV.
If you are like me when I travel, I spend hours reading reviews trying to find the perfect place to stay. Look no further when you come to NYC, STAY HERE!I am super picky and having worked in hospitality its hard to find a hotel that meets my needs.I booked with Hotels.com and received an email from the hotel a few days before I arrived asking if there was anything we required. I had mentioned our flight landed early and we were coming to New York to celebrate my moms 70th birthday.I was nervous because even if you mentioned youll need an early check-in, the room isnt ready. But the check-in process was fast and the room was ready! Tony was friendly and welcoming. Also, moments after checking in, a concierge came to our room to welcome us and had a beautiful candle for my mom and a card for her birthday. The hotel is perfectly located (safe neighborhood), well maintained, and above all CLEAN!Our room had everything we needed and the bed was SO COMFORTABLE!Housekeeping did an amazing job on turn-down service. Was so nice to come back after exploring all day to a nice and tidy room.We had the breakfast buffet one day and there is literally something for everyone.I know if friends ever ask which hotel to stay at while visiting NYC, I am recommending it!
The service is what shows here and is lacking. The hard product isnt bad but compared with competitors in the Midtown space IHG need to do better to attract their status elites as we had hit and miss turndown service, things missing and worst of all a nonchalance when things went wrong. The hotel itself and room is what you expect for upscale luxury after the renovations so I cant fault them for that to be fair.
We spent the weekend in NYC celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. It was extra special with Intercontinental. Beautiful historical hotel, friendly and very helpful staff, room cleanliness was impeccable, great night sleep. Also a great quieter location in the city. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here!
The hotel and location were good. The hotel is well-maintained and overall clean. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. However, the staff service is mediocre, and to some extent, rude. A guest, who is a loyal customer at the Spire Elite status deserves the respect that comes with this loyalty. Staff did not have the courtesy to to respond to a simple email nor to accommodate a basic request. Overall, the stay at this hotel was average experience, and I would stay somewhere else for that price.
I just stayed in the Barclay for 3 nights, with 3 rooms. Also, I recommended 2 of my good Friends to the hotel, for 7 nights, and they got a suite each. I had a very bad experience in the hotel, first with the cleaning of the room. I checked in on Sunday, around 3pm and when I first entered the bath, the room was full of women hair in the floor, DISGUSTING. I called the Exceptional service button in the phone first, to tell them the situation, they said ok. I waited for 45 minutes, nobody came. I called again, another 45 minutes and nobody came. After that, I had to leave my room, when I came back, still was everything in the same place. I called again, very upset, to please send the manager of housekeeping to my room and he came, and saw it for himself, a Tall guy, and after that after a few minutes they sent someone to clean the bath floor. On Monday, when I came back from work around 7 PM, and when I look in top of the toilet, were they put the qtips, and some accesories, I took one, and I moved it, and there also, in top of the glass, another long women black hair, again DISGUSTING. I left the hotel on Tuesday night, around 1015 pm, I wanted to leave the hotel, I had a midnight flight, and I paid the entire night for 3 rooms for a couple of hours, and when I wanted to check out, with 4 luggages of samples nobody picked up the phone in the front desk, or the bell desk. After 25 minutes calling, and nobody picked the phone, I had to go downstairs myself, to find out that there was only 1 guy in the front desk, Called Christan, and he was by himself, I had to wait, to talk to him for around 25 minutes, its already 1040pm, and he tells me there is no bell boy at this time, that I had to carry myself… after 20 more minutes of begging, he send me someone to help me with the luggage.. after I finished the check out of the room, which I was expecting a discount for the bad experience with the cleaning of the room, at around 1130Pm, I had to leave the hotel.. after 1h and 15 minutes that I was supposed to leave. When I left, there were over 6 people waiting in line, for more than 15 minutes each, to check in the hotel at that time.
We cant wait to stay at this hotel again. Heres some of the reasons:The customer service is amazing. The hotel decor is elegant. The location of the property is perfect for great dining and shopping. The rooms are a nice size especially for New York. The beds are so comfortable that we didnt want to get out of it.
Of the two Intercontinental hotels in NYC, I prefer the one on Times Square. The staff at the Barclays was not as attentive. For example, after checking in, I was handed a business card. The staff person did not state what benefits I was receiving nor that they were set forth on the card. As a result, I missed some benefits. I wasn’t acknowledged upon entering, they were not very friendly. When I ordered a coffee in the morning, the first staff person didn’t say anything other than good morning, as I left a second assured me that I could return for refills. The room was comfortable and the hall had dirty tissues which were removed after I brought it to there attention.
The room was very nice. However, the hotel seems very understaffed. Check-in lines were 15+ minutes and individuals checking-in ahead of me were given keys to rooms with people already in the rooms.Getting my folio after my stay was a huge headache. Hold times were so long I had to call back a number of times before someone picked up. Additionally, Intercontinentals phone lines were terrible quality, and it took multiple conversations with the front desk before the folio was sent to the correct email.
This stay was spontaneous as we were supposed to be in Calgary Canada for a family wedding but due to Canadian Covid protocol we were not allowed in until after the wedding so we visited NYC instead to surprise a friend’s birthday event that we had previously turned down due to the wedding. The Barclays was great . We normally stay at the Intercontinental in the Broadway district . Both hotels accept dogs which is great. Except for a used bathrobe issue our stay in our suite was great.
This was a five-star experience at a rational price. The room, the lobby, the staff -- all top notch. I have become used to staying downtown but the proximity to Grand Central and everything else that midtown offers (within walking distance!) has changed my habits. I will certainly stay here again when Im in NY.
Not the experience I expected for Intercontinental, few staffs in the front, facilities and hardware is a bit outdated, not much we can use in the hotel, cafe only opens for a very short time in the morning for breakfast. Housekeeping should observe client privacy a bit more, do not lock our door while we request late check out, also do not put the cleaning tool outside our door and talking on the phone, giving us pressure to check out earlier,
Convenient location near Rockefeller Center, clean gym; comfortable room with soft and fluffy towels, slippers and robe. Seemed to be some small issues with communication and/or standards within different ranks within the hotel (didnt appear a particularly strong tight-knit team among different roles) - management satisfactorily addressed the issue I brought up and I think the hotel is striving to keep up high standards (the vision is there, the execution is still in the works but presumably will improve over time)
Check in was speedy and our room on the 15th floor was very clean, comfortable and nicely appointed.Bell men were very helpful and greeted us with a smile.I realize that the pandemic created staffing shortages but management needs to focus on ensuring that stafff put in extra efforts to help and communicate with each other to provide good costumer service is essential. This was not very evident during our 5-night stay. Please note that The poor rating for food and beverage was due to the restaurant and bar being closed.
Booked a room for a 2 night stay. A quick get away to relax and rejuvenate. Loved the location as you can easily walk to Fifth Ave, St Patricks Cathedral and Subway stations all with in easy access. Upon check in my room was clean, quiet, classy with beautiful amenities, Large in size compared to the typical New York hotel rooms My bed was furnished with crisp and fresh linens slept so well it was difficult to get out of bed. I appreciated the perks you receive with the daily Amenity Fee ($25 F&B credit/discount on laundry) as explained by the Guest Service Associate at check in. In every Hotel Associate encounter you were greeted a nice warm smile . So happy to find my new home when visiting New York City! With all the cut backs other hotels have implemented on their services, Its nice to know that Intercontinental New York Barclay still offers daily Housekeeping service!!! Thank You
The service and the hotel was beautiful. The room was small but very comfortable with great people! Everyone we interacted with was very helpful and professional. We very much enjoyed our stay, with one complaint. The breakfast offered was ridiculously below the value we deserved at a hotel of this caliber. We received a coupon for a cafe nearby, which only had limited options like black tea or coffee, orange juice, ham and cheese, and chocolate pastries. We had people in our party that did not eat ham and some that were allergic to chocolate, which removes any food option. Though we understand the club and restaurant were not completely open due to restrictions, the breakfast compensation was extremely inadequate.
We drove to the hotel and were first impressed by the bellman who greeted us and helped with the car. He was quick to approach our vehicle and had us pull up to leave the car for the valet to pick up, simplifying an often complicated procedure in NYC. Then we were greeted at the front desk promptly and with a very friendly approach. We were offered a late checkout the next day without even having to ask! Ive traveled about 50 days a year for many years now, and this has maybe happened once before, but so long ago I cant remember when. Im a member of the IHG loyalty program, but not even an elite member. The room was immaculate, well appointed and really quiet. We had requested a quiet room, but thats often a request that goes unmet, and its particularly difficult to fulfill in NY. Once again, impressive.Theres not much left to say except, we will be back!
I stayed over the weekend at Intercontinental Barclay for Pokemon Go Fest. It was a fabulous experience! The interiors are exquisite, the place is clean, and the location is perfect! Just a few blocks from Grand Central, the hotel is very accessible to travelers like me who live in Connecticut. I especially appreciate that I was allowed to check-in early and my Platinum Elite status allowed me to check-out at 2pm as well... The bed and the sheets are super comfy. I had a great night sleep. Would highly recommend and would love to stay again during my next visit.
This property has just become my favorite hotel in NYC. The building is beautiful but more importantly, the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. I even received text messages before, during and after my stay from Perle (the GM). TOP NOTCH customer service !!
Positive: It is tough to compliment anything after the services i have received during both of my stays at this hotel, but, a bright spot was meeting, the bellman who was a knight in shining armor when I needed one. He was kind and tried to make things right. Negative: I have been put off by the service at this hotel on both of the trips here. I have seen the services those around me received and I think how they are being treated correctly. So why me? What have I done wrong? Otherwise, why the differential treatment?
The hotel was grossly understaffed. We checked in late (11:30 PM) and there was no bellman to assist. The day we left we tried calling the front desk for a bellman, and no one answered the phone. We brought our own luggage down to the lobby, and realized there was only one person at the front desk, and he had to keep leaving the desk to complete his tasks. When we asked if abellman could hold our luggage until later, he found the bell captain, who was in the luggage room. Very poor service for a luxury hotel. The wedding party stayed at the hotel before/after my daughters wedding. The day we checked in, my daughter received an email from the hotel notifying her that a high profile guest would be staying at the hotel and that she wouldnt be able to take wedding pictures in the lobby. The lobby was the reason she chose the hotel, and she was very disappointed. Im sure the hotel was aware of this change prior to the day we checked in, and could have let her know earlier.
The trashes of the other guest room service were out of the rooms for 2 days, so i called to say if some one can went for all the dirty dishes, the rooms looks bigger in the photos of the web page, they tell me i have a credit, and the servibar never refill, and about all the movement of president Biden it was impossible to take a breakfast. I think all members are angry o doesn’t like their jobs!! The hotel is nice but very expensive for what I received in service. And really I don’t know how they have an award in housekeeping!! You can do more
Had a great time in NYC. Attention to cleanliness was comforting. Rooms were very clean. My only reservation with the hotel was that front desk staff did not mention anything about Ambassador benefits until I asked about them. And even then, I had to ask about each benefit and whether they were available to us. In the end, I ended up not using the Ambassador food benefit as it was still unclear what was covered and what was not.
I was disappointed overall with my stay here in July 2021. I had stayed here a few years ago. The voice recording when you call the hotel states that they recently underwent their largest renovation in history. I did not notice anything different from my previous stay. As a Platinum Elite member, I requested 2 beds instead of 1 and was told they could not guarantee this. It surprised me - you would think IHG would take care of its higher-tiered members. The first room we checked into was very dirty. There was makeup spilled all over the carpet. Multiple surfaces were also very dusty - chairs, mirrors, glass table tops, counters. I think this soured our stay from the get go, because it made the property feel unclean. The air conditioning also did not work, and it was very hot in the room. A simple quality check of the room before guest check-in could have prevented these issues. We tried to call downstairs to have someone sent up. After being on hold for 15 minutes from the guest room phone to the front desk, no one picked up. We ultimately went downstairs as we were uncomfortably hot waiting in the room. We were then checked into another room which was more comfortable. That evening, I tried to call downstairs to request a wake-up call and a late checkout. After pushing the Front Desk button on the phone, I was on hold for over 30 minutes waiting for someone to answer the phone. I went downstairs and was surprised to find someone standing at the front desk (I assumed it might be unattended or busy, since no one was answering the phone). Apparently the calls get routed to an exceptional service desk of agents on another floor of the hotel. The service overall was not exceptional. I would make the recommendation that when a hotel guest calls the hotel from their room phone, they are routed somewhere that a hotel staffer can answer the call in a timely fashion, as opposed to being pushed into a queue with prospective customers waiting to make reservations or ask other questions. Overall this is a nicer hotel, but it did not meet my expectations. I wanted to feel like I was treating myself and relative to something special, and did not feel that way throughout our stay.
The location cant be beat of course. The lobby is spacious and elegant. This is a beautiful hotel. I even enjoyed the short walk up the stairs to the elevator (there is another bank of elevators that do not require stairs). Unfortunately the lobby bar was not open during our Monday night stay but it looks like a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail. My only issue was that the hotel must be short staffed (which I think is the case everywhere right now). I had to wait quite a bit to check in with the one staff member on duty, but she was friendly and efficient. The room was beautifully decorated, well equipped and the bed was so comfortable that my husband keeps asking me to recreate it at home. When I asked to check out an hour later I was accommodated and the staff member we dealt with at check out couldnt have been nicer. We very much enjoyed our stay and plan to return.
Amazing Hotel, rooms are beautiful and clean. Staff were top notch, made our stay extra special. Special thanks to our Bell Hop Angel, our favorite New Yorker by far. Also to Orin at the reception desk who checked us in thank you for making a couple Canadians feel like we were at home. Give those two a raise!!!!
If this hotel had decent sound proofing I would give it a 5 star rating. After we requested a quiet room, a dog was placed in the room next door. We were not able to get a decent nights sleep. We requested a room change after a few nights. The new room was across the hall from a child that had repeated temper tantrums which we could clearly hear through 2 closed doors. We could hear the conversations in the room next to us as well as people walking down the hall. The staff was very responsive and polite but there is little they could do to address the deficient soundproofing in an otherwise fine hotel.
As noted earlier, when the alarm went off at 1:30am and we were allowed back to our rooms at 2:00am after a false alarm, there was no apology on checking out and nothing in terms of providing breakfast or partial reimbursement in compensation. Fires happen but hotels look after their guests. Awful bathroom: no bathtub in spite of photos indicated one in each roomVery disappointing compared to the Intercontinental in Boston and LA.
My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for two weeks and the service and the hospitality were superb. I got to know the staff and they were top notch. The managers that I dealt with Ruchi, Crista, Matthew and Jennifer went far above the ordinary customer service experience you receive at hotels nowadays . The way they treat and make their guests feel at home was truly refreshing. Housekeeping was also excellent. My daughter thought she had lost her iPods and one of the housekeepers named Vivian found them underneath the bed and returned them to us, even though we were not looking in our room since my daughter thought she had left them at the park. It was a true pleasure staying at the intercontinental this will definitely be our go to hotel when we visit New York again.
Great hotel. I had no idea US Open players would be staying here. Added an interesting component to our stay. Lines of Mercedes out front to shuttle them aroundAlso seeing pros play table tennis in the lobby was amusing too because they were really good at that as well! It’s and older hotel, so walls are a little thin, or our neighbor was a loud talker?Either way beds and pillows are A+ and I got a full night sleep of 12 hours our first night after a long day of travel and the Hurricane Ida storms.
The facilities and location were superb. The hotel itself has maintained the elegance of the era in which it was built. The lobby was beautiful, the elevators were from another, more gracious time, and the public areas had a lovely patina. The support of the staff was mediocre at best. We submitted requests repeatedly thru the initial reservation, email,
We spent four nights at the Barclay and found the accommodations to be comfortable and the service to be friendly and seamless. Whether it was the welcoming front desk, the attentive service at the bar, the speedy in-room dining, or the hard-working cleaning staff, the Barclay has established itself as our new home away from home in New York.
Really liked this hotel. Even though Im not the biggest IHG guy, I will be coming back for future stays. Location is perfect if you want to be close to everything, yet not surrounded by tourist traps. easy to get to by Taxi and Rideshare, close to the 6 train, close to 5th avenue. beautiful interior and surprisingly spacious rooms (for NYC). Be aware that many stays come with a 35$ daily resort fee, of which 25$ can be used for drinks and room service. This credit does not carry over.
I would like to begin by saying this is a beautiful, very clean, well maintained property in a great location... Although this property is not known for its views, I thought my room was very nice and clean, (except the kurig). A robe for both guests in the room, an extra paper cup and a back up roll of tp would have saved me a few calls.Beware! …if you purchase from the high priced, (as expected) mini bar, the QR code on the fridge door will provide you with an bit outdated price list, it also does not mention, each item you pick up, even if you put it back, you will be charged for automatically. I count calories and carbs therefore picked up and read the label on many items. Fortunately I decided to wait in line and check out at the desk and was able to have the invoice adjusted. I was given the impression this happens often.I was nice when they verified we were celebrating an occasion several times prior to check in. Twice in an email and once at the front desk upon check in. Staying in hotels quite frequently for business and pleasure, and often to celebrate a special occasion, I was surprised when there was not so much as a welcome note of acknowledgment. Out of curiosity I asked what they normally do for guests celebrating. I was told normally they would send a lovely dessert to your room, however due to Covid restrictions they couldn’t currently do that. This is a luxury property with expert management and well trained employees?! …Be a little creative! …any tiny gesture, how about a bottle of water? A postcard was slid under our door within minutes of me jokingly saying…not even a card? lol. You do tend to expect a certain level of courtesy and service from a first class property. Any lack of amenities and service was blamed on Covid. No platinum elite status acknowledgment or perks in affect at this time. I knew service was limited therefore I was not upset or surprised. Oddly however, We visited several hotels with bars and restaurants in that area and they were fully operational. I understand employees are hard to find during this hiring crisis however just be honest about it, covid can’t be the answer for everything.Upon arrival, not even a returned hello or nod from the employee cleaning the entrance door, just a pointed finger in the direction of another door. These times are tough post covid, we are all adjusting to the world reopening. I simply expected to feel welcomed, I did not.
Room is fine, clean with a comfortable bed and nice towels. However, there was only 1 front desk person on staff when I arrived and checked out so there were lines for check in and check out. Also, I left a bag in storage at the bellhop station for the day when I checked out and the bellhop made a face when I returned for my suitcase - it seemed like he wasn’t happy to give me my bag.
We (2 guests) stayed for 3 nights at the Intercontinental Barclay and left having no complaints! The hotel just opened back up a week prior to our stay so everything was sleek and clean which made us feel very comfortable given the circumstances. Bed was comfortable. Sheets were clean. Bathroom was acceptable - water pressure and temperature were high quality. Housekeeping was thorough but not invasive. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Everything about my stay was excellent. The hotel really made my birthday feel special! In addition, the staff was incredibly hospitable and kind. I had 4 rooms booked and all 4 were spotless and the hotel even had extra masks in case we needed some. I am not impressed with hotel stays very often, but this was by far one of the best. Kindness and a little extra effort goes along way with me, and this staff really embodied that. Not to mention the gorgeous furniture and interior design of the hotel!
Classy property, well appointed rooms with a modern classic feel. Location is convenient as you can pretty much walk to anywhere (with a good pair of sneakers!). The rooms can be dark so go for high floor and ask for east 48th street facing rooms. The bar / reception area can benefit from better lighting. The gym is decent on equipment (they have a peloton) but again feels like a cellar.
Overall a 5/5 hotel tbh. Had some problems with Expedia. Contacted them and got a very nice manager Ruchi, who absolutely helped me to the best of her ability, issue resolved. Some staff members are rude though, especially when you call at night, that’s where she gave me the wrong info causing a whole array of problems but thanks to Ruchi, my issue has been solved.
As an Intercontinental Ambassador, I tend to stay loyal if the city I visit has this brand. Upon arrival, the room was super clean (albeit there was one errant hair on the bathroom floor that was clearly not mine). The bed was extremely comfortable. I had no issues with noise as I believe my hall may have been half empty (although I see how some that have complained may have this issue as the doors nor windows are soundproof). None of the bedside outlets fit any of my adapters for my phone (USB or plug). I had to charge my phone on the floor using the random extension strip behind the dresser. You do receive a mini bar credit, but I really only wanted one thing and repeatedly asked every day I was there for them to refill this item. It never happened. I basically had to beg for it the day I left. Shout out to Shauna at the front desk as being the nicest and service forward human being ever. Before my business trip, I did some research between the 2 Intercontinental Hotel locations in NYC. I wanted to make sure whatever I picked best suited me as there was a possibility that I would need a month-long stay in the near future. I was told before my arrival that bonus points would be provided to Intercontinental Ambassadors since restaurants, bars and food and beverage were unavailable (despite the city being fully open during my stay). I did not receive any upon arrival. I inquired during checkout and the front desk attendant informed me that guest relations will give me 5,000 for the inconvenience. I have yet to see this bonus and/or resolution. This is the biggest issue I had with my stay. I am not normally one to use a hotel “for the bed only.’ I want it to always be a multi-level experience. If you take away a level, I expect something in return, especially if it is promised. I would have given this hotel 5 stars if they fulfilled their promise. Therefore, I think I will be checking out the other Intercontinental next time. Hopefully, my experience will be more memorable.
I dont understand how this hotel maintains such high ratings or gets away with charging what it does per night for a subpar experience and fewer amenities than the average Holiday Inn. Where to begin?1. I specifically requested a room away from the elevators and they gave me the room closest to the elevators. Literally the closest room to the elevator. All night I was waking up to people getting off and talking loudly. I know I could have complained and switched, but I had a long flight with little sleep and had to quickly change and get to the office.2. The walls are paper thin. I am laying here and can hear the peoples conversation nextdoor clear as day and they are not talking loudly.3. Room amenities are lacking. Rooms are small. TV is tiny. Cheap coffee and condiments, no tea. No microwave. No refrigerator because the only fridge is full of their minibar with $9 bottles of generic water and M
Positive: I truly enjoyed my stay at the intercontinental Barclay hotel. This is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was exceptionally clean and the staff was extremely pleasant! I will definitely be staying here again! Room 1556 ¿¿. Negative: N/A I enjoyed everything!
The hotel is somewhat dated but neat and clean, especially our room (presumably all guest rooms) - Great housekeeping staff !!I’m a Spire Elite, but didn’t get an upgrade and only allowed late checkout till 1:00 pm. There’s free coffee, but not a single bottle of free water. Like another reviewer said, no slippers either. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay.
Absolutely love staying at the Intercontinental Barclay. Its such a gorgeous hotel, so spacious, beautifully built. The rooms are great, nicely airconditioned, spacious, enough room to work if needed, very clean. The location is great, such great restaurants close by and you can get to nice shops by foot. Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable people, immediately helped out with all my needs.
This place has become another mediocre nickel/dime hotel. Room was dirty upon arrival. Found used qtip by the bed and soiled or stained towels in bathroom. The room es very small for my wife and two daughters and me so we requested a change to a cleaner rooms but had to ask three times before it was finally resolved. The dirt in the first room was shrugged off with a curt apology and the guest relations arrogant aloof attitude made one feel that they were doing us extreme favors. When I refused to pay more for a larger room, I am after all a very loyal client to both this property and the brand, I was forced to check out halfway through my stay as management simply did not care to seek an agreeable solution. I was reminded Inused points and free night certificate by guest relations director and offered to pay $500 more total for my stay for more space. So much for loyalty in these dire times not a way to retain clients. Left message for GM to address the situation who instead shuffled my concerns to the same agent that was negating service. Not the Intercontinental I’ve known for 25 years and much less the Barclay.
Stayed in PH . So disappointed. Tub spilled out brown sludge . Shower broken and difficult. Room was clean. Very loud clunking of elevator heard all night long. Bed extreme ly comfortable. Room phone inoperable. Think pandemic has tried to take down our favorite Nyc landmark hotel. Please fix problems as your property is iconic and gorgeous. Please save it. Thank you.
I stayed in this hotel this June as I had to come to New York to pick up my daughter from camp. My experience with Intercontinental hotels over the years has been good, and the location of this hotel was great, so I chose this one. The hotel itself is fine--very nice lobby, decent rooms, very clean, decently appointed. But the customer service is terrible. From check-in, where the person checking me in did not offer so much as a smile, and was borderline rude, to the service people coming to fix an issue to the manager himself, no one was polite, nice or accommodating. I was really disappointed. The biggest issue I had was an air conditioning issue. It was hot out--summertime in NY, but when I got to my room, it was like an ice box, cold air was blowing out and the room registered at 64 degrees. Despite turning the temperature all the way up to 80, the unit continued to blow out ice cold air, and the room just got colder. I called to have this checked out, and a serviceman came up, told me that this was summer, theres no heat in the hotel, just A/C, and most people like A/C.I like A/C too. I just want it to be at a comfortable level...I didnt think to bring my parka. :/I was told Id just have to shut off the air and open the windows (which by the way have no screens, so it gets buggy).I was really unhappy with this solution, and was just berated by the service person, and management basically told me to check out or just deal with it. But they could give me an extra blanket if I liked.Id expect more. Any roadside motel along the highway allows you to adjust your own air to your preference. But not here. And dont expect any help. Anyway, take this for what you will...but I wouldnt stay here again.
Clean room and bed and linens. Good cooling and tastefully decorated room and fixtures and clean bathroom and towels and decent toiletries. Central location and courteous and helpful staff. My wife and I were satisfied on all counts. Very good value for money. We do travel a lot and have ample comparison experience. Overall a great stay! Thanks!
The staff are NYC friendly….competent yet brusk. The only positive was bathroom was decent. The two rooms I tried both had issues. Washed but still dirty/soiled linens on the bed. No internet router in the room meant no wifi. Walls are paper thin so I heard telephone conversations from the next room over very well. For the price and IHG brand, it was a very disappointing stay. I doubt I would go back.
I arrived the hotel around 1am and quite excited to be in NYC. I received two rooms and headed toward the rooms but soon I saw the quite filthy uncleaned room that I was assigned to. I never experienced this in my 20 year whole travel history. I called the lobby and they asked me to come down for another room. I was expecting some real sorry from the staff but the manager just think its their housekeeping dept issue but not hers. She was super rude and unprofessional, which made me super upset as I never treated that way in other great hotel chains. If you expect any hospitality, I dont think this hotel is the right place. The decision to stay in this hotel for the first day of my NYC trip turned to be my worst choice.
The InterContinental brand has always carried a reputation of being luxury and higher end, and the appearance of the interior of the Barclay held up well to this, but the overall quality of service suffered a bit. I will say, in the staffs defense, covid has put a major strain on the hospitality industry and staffing is low and suffering, so that should certainly be taken into account, but what I experienced was having to be moved to three different rooms due to odors, uncleanliness, or faulty air conditioning (during a horrible NYC heat wave…), the staff’s responses were somewhat delayed to resolve the issues asap and felt somewhat lackluster, and there were some missteps along the way, and I was left feeling the price I paid for the stay did not match the overall experience I had. Was it a nice hotel? Yes. Are the issues I experienced avoidable and able to be fixed so other people don’t experience this? Yes. Would I stay there again? Not sure.
Positive: Friendly and courteous staff. Hotel was so clean and cozy. Hotel architecture and decor was amazing. Negative: My husband and I was watching tv and talking and hotel staff knocked on our door and said we were too loud so we practically whispered the rest of the stay.
I was able to secure a very reasonable rate to stay at this luxury hotel at the beginning of June. The room and bathroom were very comfortable, well decorated and of high standard. For some reason, I could hear guests in a nearby room talking very loudly at night which prevented me getting a good nights sleep. This was unusual as the hotel was very lightly occupied and has hundreds of rooms yet I was situated next to a room with very loud occupants. The bar
I had restroom flushing issue and not able to contact front desk regarding this for longtime. Finally called hotel conceirge and called for help to fix the flushing issue. The person couldn’t fix the issue but he said “ it is manageable”. After few flush it didn’t work. Whole night with my kid , I kept the door closed due to smell. How can you use restroom often without flushing. I left the hotel early in the morning by 9 am before my check out time. I drove 3 hours to come to this hotel for leisure stay but the cleanliness and customer service is worst. I always stay in intercontinental 300 W 44th street but for change I chose this place turned out be like this. My leisure trip turned to be nightmare
The hotel was in a great location to where we could walk pretty much anywhere. Very clean rooms, but the walls were paper thin. Our neighbor was so obnoxious, screaming and yelling, banging on walls. We were in room 905 and they were in 904. I swear that lady never left the room because anytime we would return we knew she was there because she was extremely loud. She would be obnoxious until 1 in the morning. I thought is was annoying that we paid for the breakfast and obviously didn’t get breakfast. When I search for a hotel to book I always make sure there is breakfast, room service and restaurants for convinces, and none of which I specifically searched for when I book a hotel was available. Most everything is open up and not hotel food services? A little ridiculous.
Overall perfect for one night stay in NYC during weekend. Clean and pretty room.Though we asked the staff where we can get bottled water. Staff said in the mini bar. We looked, there was no price tag on it and only hotel Barclay logo. So we thought it is complementary. But it is not. That untagged bottle of water cost us $12. I wish they can let me know beforehand and least have a price tag on it.
Our experience at the Barclay during the post-covid days of NYC was better than expected in most ways. The staff, and especially the cleaning staff, are way above expectations - it was more immaculately clean than usual, and thats a high bar.We were disappointed that the Barclay club lounge and bar were closed, even though NYC bars and restaurants were open and even maskless as long as proof of vaccination was given. For the first time, I really felt devalued as a Spire Ambassador by IHG (not the staff). ZERO benefits from what Ive received in the past from the program. Im not even sure that my room was upgraded.Staff was wonderful, however; room was exceptionally clean.
I booked this hotel for a birthday NYC trip and chose the property because of the great recommendations from friends and many coworkers. I was so impressed when Sofia, the GM, along with several other folks at the property went out of their way to welcome me and offer a warm Happy Birthday. The bar staff was friendly and had a courteous pour in line with the prices. The front desk staff had smiles and genuinely wanted to help. I was especially pleased with the maid service--all throughout the day, they were working so hard to ensure that every detail was impeccable with the room. The room was well decorated and of extremely high quality. The mattress was nice and firm but very comfortable, and even the small detail of my requested foam pillows was honored to ensure that I had a wonderful sleep. The noise was minimal, only ever an issue due to another guest (youll find them at every property!). The washroom was tidy and every detail was present--towels were fresh and fluffy, robes and slippers nicely hung, and the always lovely lemon verbena soaps and such were laid out perfectly. The gym was top notch and truly open 24/7, and the ice machines also had purified water! For this and so much more, Id stay again at this property, hands down. The staff really topped the experience and you wont find that everywhere else, even at other high end hotels. My most sincere recommendation--if youre reading these reviews, go ahead and book your trip now!
Incredible. We stayed here for our wedding and the staff went the extra mile to make sure that we were accommodated. The front desk were very flexible with our check-in/check-out needs and even addressed me by name every time we swung by. The security was incredibly prompt and helpful when we realized (hours after checkout) we had left valuables in our room. The hotel itself was clean, modern, and gorgeous. The lobby was beautiful, perfect for our first look and some pictures. There was an elegant second floor staircase as well. The lobby bar was also a great space for hanging out with our wedding party.Thank you, InterContinental, for the wonderful experience. I would recommend staying here to anyone!
The hotel is quite nice, well localized, has a friendly and educated staff and had a great stay. However, mandatory resort fee not included in final price and is charged even in award stays! :( Not being honest about the actual hotel price is a downer and I will try to avoid staying in properties like this in the future.
Positive: The hotel is very clean and well-maintained. Negative: We had harsh delays getting transportation on Sunday September 19th. The road in front of the hotel was completely block for more important guests. That is fine, but a heads up would have been nice as the blockage cannot be seen from hotel entrance.
My room, 856, had not one, but 4 decaf capsules, though no regular coffee. Additionally, the remote wasn’t working. As such, I had to call the front desk to address these issues. Finally, when I checked out this morning, I explained to the staff at front desk that I didn’t consume any soda and had put everything back, but there was a $2.00 charge for ginger ale in my folio.I sensed that the staff either don’t care or rather incompetent, as such, I do not plan to stay with this hotel in my future visits.
This hotel has always been my go to place when I’m in NYC. Location is perfect. Minutes away from shopping and Grand Central Station. The street is not heavily traveled so it is quite peaceful (NYC standards) I feel safe walking around even late in the evening. Hotel feels very secure. Very clean and customer service is amazing!
Hotel is very modern, clean and new. But it would be a walk within 1 mile to times square, close to 5th avenue. Depends on where you wanna visit. I am Spire Elite but the hotel doesnt have any offers (even complimentary upgrade) to feel special. The good thing is they check me in at 9AM, when i arrived at 3PM. Overall, good stay!
We have been patronizing The Barclay since around 1995. This is our families favorite hotel property anywhere in the world. Whether we are traveling for business or for leisure, the Barclay offers refined elegance and outstanding service. We look forward every year to visiting.
This hotel really treats their guests right, I had the pleasure of dealing with Ruchi Sura, and she really helped me with my inquiry - quick and EASY. This hotel also is totally renovated, the rooms are big spacious and clean. They have a minibar, which a lot of hotels today dont have due to Covid. They also have the cleaning service come every day, which again, a lot of other hotels dont have due to Covid. Its central in midtown, i will definitely come back soon!! Thank you again Ruchi for your help !
We have stayed in many business and luxury hotels in NYC, and I have to stay the Intercon. Barclay is up there. Gorgeous renovation keeping some of the lovely historical details, HUGE and clean and nicely decorated hotel room, helpful stay (especially the bellman) and overall ambiance is terrific! We will be back. Only drawback, some construction and a lot of restaurants close up early in the area. Otherwise, a terrific, upscale hotel!
The Intercontinental Barclay is a world class hotel and everything they do just examples that principle. The rooms are beautiful and so well maintained, the entire staff is top notch and dedicated to customer service that it makes the experience a privilege. We stayed five nights and had a great time. Special recognition please for Arthur and Sharon at Reception Desk - they are absolutely world class.
Awful experience!Come to this establishment and be robbed. My Wife’s wedding band and engagement rings both stolen from our room.General Manager unable to appear…Customer Relations Gabriel Nogueira, comes out with such poor manners and lack of knowledge… only repeats “ we already filed a claim with insurance”… said it four times!Chief of Security, Robert Jenks, able to be approached over the phone; unable to appear today when I flew across country to discuss this matter.UNPROFESSIONAL, on all accounts. We have filed a theft police report at 17th and midtown north NYPD both great, and extremely helpful handling it.Stay away from this thieves nest!Unreal, dishonest, and unprofessional management and obviously hotel staff.
I did not know what to expect given these trying times and was more than pleasantly surprised! The room was, as usual, very well done and comfortable and the housekeeping was quite outstanding given the staffing difficulties everyone is having. I could see people were pushed but everyone did the job well.Of course, there were not the number of staff people around since the Lobby Bar and Restaurant were still closed but everyone as you entered were being helpful and no one seemed harried. So even in the most trying of time The Barclay has lived up to it reputation for me: 5 Star!
Very nice hotel, but $42pp for a mediocre continental breakfast thats a half step above Costco and charging $4.50 to take the coffee back to your room is ridiculous. Yes, thanks for automatically adding 15% gratuity for filling my coffee once and letting me serve myself cheerios from the dispenser.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Intercontinental Barclay a couple months ago to go to the Thanksgiving Day Parade and I must say the property and staff were excellent. Room was spotless as well as the entire property. Everyone we had the pleasure of dealing with at the hotel gave us the attention and assistance we expected. I had the pleasure of dealing with doormen, reception, concierge, maintenance, bar staff and others and i have not one complaint. I had even had the pleasure of dealing with Gabriel Nogueira who was so kind to my wife and children as well as myself, he really deserves a special thank you. I look forward to staying at the property again in the future. Thank You. David V.
Pros - Great check-in experience. We were welcomed at the AMBASSADOR reception by Leslie. Easily the best welcome/check-in we had (and this inlcudes outisde of the US Intercontinentals). The room was great and the location perfect (for what we were doing in NYC). Cons- Dont expect for front desk attendants to go above and beyond:One evening I stopped at the front desk to request extra shower gels (since we had the do not disturb sign during the day) and the daily water bottles perk as ambassadors. No issues with the bathroom items but was told that they didnt have any water bottles. Really?!Things really soured when we called the front desk in the morning for a shaving and toothbrush kit. We thought this would be faster than going to a CVS. First, they took 30 mins to deliver only one item. We told the front desk attendant (Hussein?) of the missing item and long wait time. He apologize and said that it would take 5 mins for the additional item. Twenty mins later, no item, so we called back to just forget it. We ended up going to CVS, and late to our destination.Breakfast needs more options: They only have a breakfast buffet (yes during COVID, a buffet) with two options; A) cold items only for $30 something, and B) $42 wih hot items. Either option comes with OJ and coffee. The issue here (other than the price tag) is that there is no a la carte menu. I asked the waiter and was told that only the buffet was available. Really dissapointed that they didnt have a la carte offerings (or that the waiter could at least ask what would I like and maybe the kitchen make it) since I usually have something small (if anything). My partner had the buffet and it said it was good (nothing to write about though).
We’ve stayed at The Barclay a few times and every visit has been delightful. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, it’s well cared for and always clean, the staff has always been very polite and quick to help with anything and everything. The location is also very convenient with a variety food options, transportation options and things to do lingering close by. I always look forward to booking my stay here when visiting NYC.
Have stayed at the Barclay several times with good experiences. This time, the front desk person (did not get his name) remembered me from a previous stay, upgraded our room, and provided a free breakfast at the Ole & Steen bakery next door - my kind of service! The Barclay restaurant is currently closed. Hopefully it will reopen soon. Room was clean and quiet.
Highly recommended to stay away!!!! the name intercontinental unfortunately and definitely will be losing its reputation when comes to this hotelService no where to be seen and busy without enough employees to accommodate to clientsIm a ambassador went there no recognition no upgrade nothing as per the website so false and misleading info after I approached them having to wait 30mins they advised that they would take 30usd of the rate hahaha honesty 30usd gave me the worst room in the hotel facing a renovation of a hotel last room down the corridor with a interconnect room just terrible honestly beyond disappointing.Breakfast was really good service was outstanding and thats about it.Waited for my driver to come before going to DC waited at the barBar tender asksHi you vaccinatedMy reply definitely and have it on my app for proofWell I do got to askAnyways I think he needs to go back to traning to understand how to speak to clientsThe worst hotel in NYC completely uselessRead the rest of the reviews most state this hotel is usless so why would you stay..??

2022-05-13With every visit to this grand hotel, we love it more and more! Its stately beauty and its warm and friendly staff make the experience one of the best weve ever had in NYC! The local area is coming back to life after the pandemic and several terrific restaurants are only blocks away. The hotels breakfast buffet is over the top, with a beautiful assortment of food and great servers who keep the hot coffee, tea & chilled juices coming. Gabriel in guest relations, one of the main reasons we moved to this hotel in the first place, always makes us feel welcome and special! We highly recommend this hotel!

2022-06-25Large hotel, with helpful front staff. Room rate was on the higher side than we normally like to pay. We like to travel by car, parking is expensive, worked out to $92 Canadian a night! We found the bell hops to be very courteous and front desk associates helpful and understanding (especially when someone decided to remove bottles from the mini bar without reading that you’re automatically charged for them).Rooms are clean, well decorated. Bathroom is good size, clean, well appointed. My only complaint would be the size of the shared double bed. The hotel description says the room sleeps three, which is good for us,but the double beds are small in size and make for an uncomfortable sleep for 2. We overall liked the hotel and it’s location to various points of interest, but would not stay again unless we splurge for a more expensive room with larger beds.

2022-04-14The InterContinental Barclay is a beautiful, very, well kept hotel. Very classy & chic!Great location- walking distance to pretty much everything. The hotel is very clean, has no weird smells. Room is extremely clean & beautiful. It’s been all updated and remodeled! Beds are comfortable. Even though the rooms are on the smaller side- the space is actually great. Bathroom is very very clean and has a fantastic mirror which lights up- so doing you’re makeup is actually great. It has a magnifying mirror as well!!Staff is very kind and helpful especially Sofia! 😊

2022-06-02We loved our stay at the intercontinental NY Barclay. The location is central and convenient (midtown). When we stayed there there was a big construction project just a couple blocks away but we didnt hear anything in our room. The lobby looks like something from a movie. Some staff were courteous, some were just OK. The bed was so comfortable. I had the best sleep. You do need to pay a resort fee when you check out. Keywords: great location, beautiful lobby and room, comfortable bed.

2021-11-29Nice welcome from doorman on arrival after long flight. Smooth checkin at front desk. Room was ready. The front desk acknowledge the stay was for our wedding anniversary. Room was nice although at first, a small problem, not the room type advertised online and we spoke to Front Office Manager who made a big effort to make stay more acceptable. Throughout the rest of they stay all other interaction with other employees was very hospitable and nice. Bed was large and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious, shower was nice. Good coffee in room and water/ice dispenser on floor. Housekeeping were great and cleaned the rooms daily very well and made effort everyday to say hello and asked we needed anything extra. Later in the stay and other interaction other front of house staff remember is and asked how our trip was and if we’re enjoying our anniversary. Checkout was great, bell hop collected our luggage and doorman got us a cab to airport and helped put luggage in.

2022-05-24Very nice hotel in a great location. Beautiful lobby, nicely styled, rooms are lovely and clean. We found some minor issues/flaws that keep this hotel from being a five star in our estimation but nothing that would keep us from returning:(1) No pool. Would have been nice to have one.(2) Poorly insulated interior walls. We could hear our neighbors talking sometimes. We didnt hear hardly any outside traffic, though. Good windows, bad walls.(3) No bathtub in the bathroom.

2022-05-07Good location. Nice room and very comfortable bed. The food options in the Club lounge were excellent, and the espresso very good. I had a nice time.As a lone business traveler the Club lounge is a perfect retreat in the evening, and it would have been nice if it had stayed open a bit longer. A special touch would be to serve Champagne instead of Cava. The wines did not match the great quality of the canapés.Special thanx to Leslie in Guest relations and Paulette in the Club lounge for exceptional service!

2022-06-21AVOID AVOID AVOID!I booked this hotel with my flights with British Airways. First night was fine but Check In can take a while with only a few members of staff available to check in guests. However if you have plans to come to NYC with a young family where you have a child under the age of 3, avoid this hotel. The hidden charges at this hotel are ridiculous and this hotel is anything but a family friendly hotel. From being shouted by restaurant staff member, being charged $11 for a cup of warm milk for our little one, this hotel takes the cake for being the worst hotel my family and I have ever stayed in.We had no issues first night however the second night the staff member at the hotel restaurant had shouted at me for ordering warm milk at the restaurant for me to take to my room.I was originally told by front desk I could obtain milk for our LO at the restaurant and take up to my room to give to my little one. He kept telling me off that the restaurant is for diners only and and shouting no at me and telling me I had to use room service even when I was trying to explain to him what I was originally told by Front Desk. The manner of his behavior infuriated me of which we complained to front desk about. However their apology was not sincere. The front desk did confirm that we were given the incorrect information on our first night and we therefore were charged $11 for a cup of warm milk for each night! The hotel takes an amenity fee of $25 per night which you will be charged when you check out. You are therefore double tipping the staff at this hotel. If you are happy to be checked in to a small room and be charged $25 plus tax for poor service, this is the hotel for you.I will certainly never ever bring my family to this ridiculous hotel in the future and Ive sent my complaint also to BA who for some reason rate this hotel 5 stars.
