My family had an absolutely amazing time. We were able to explore all the floors. The kids had fun in the kids corner with the intrepid. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions and share some stories. The real size of the space shuttle was wevy impressive. Then we explained the submarine. I was stunned with the mission duration and how that affects the crew mentality, again very knowledgeable staff everywhere around.
Simply WOWWWWWW the history at this museum is beyond belief! The submarine was so freaking cool! This is MUST! A real MUST! And I work in the city and I still think it’s one of the coolest places. The views are also incredible. We stayed there a whole day until it closed because of how mesmerized we were with everything! This is for people of all ages, I promise everyone will enjoy it! There is even an interactive area. Will go back again.
This place is a fantastic museum for navy 🎖️ , air force ✈️, and army 🪖 enthusiasts! The Intrepid is a gigantic vessel docked ⚓ in the Hudson River 🌊 near the Hudson Yards that is the size of the Chrysler Building and converted into a giant multilevel museum! Visit the large place carrier for a close view of many historical planes 🛩️ and a walk through the entire ship 🚢! They also have a flight simulator 🛫 for an extra charge 🎟️ that is really fun! I wish I came here earlier!
Great museum, wish I was taken to this as a child I would have been like in a candy shop! Walk around a good percentage of the ship (main parts are all open) deck including all the planes and helicopters, the bridge, radio room, all the different external weapons, hanger deck, with different artifacts and thing to get involved with (simulators etc) theres old gun (ball) turrets, and escape pods, a massive lego scaled version of the ship. And the lower deck incl accommodation etc. Then theres the submarine Growler) on the opposite side to the pier have a walk around that (not suitable for people with movement difficulties or if very large!).
First time Id been as an adult and it was AWESOME. Where else in the world can you explore an aircraft carrier and see the best planes from the last 80 years? They also had a retired intrepid crew member on the bridge and the two we met were both fantastic to talk to. Only disappointment was the submarine was closed, probably for covid
Unbelievable museum and such a great experience. My 5, 10 and 16 year old enjoyed it. The rides were worth the addition. If you want the full experience with the ship there are Narrow spaces, some climbing over, walking down and up the stairs so Would be difficult with a young child but if they stay in the aircraft area they would be alright
Short: STUNNING Museum!! If you like aviation/boats in any way go there!Long: Very interesting technical museum showing plenty of exhibits, partially unique. For instance you can get a separate ticket to see a Concorde (image with the NYC skyline through a concords cockpit window attached!), the first space shuttle, a growler submarine, a sojus capsule and many many more fighter jets and details of an aircraft carrier. The staff is very friendly and shows you around, food and facilities are all there. There are simulators, stuff for children to play around and nice souvenirs to be had. Prepare yourself to spend a couple of hours there!
The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum was one we were anticipating seeing. It’s much larger than you’d think, so carve out some time to see it all. First you get to tour literally an entire aircraft carrier, which is huge. You get to explore different decks to see how sailors ate, slept and worked. They have a space shuttle to look at and a VR ride that takes you to mars. They even have a separate submarine to tour.
We had a really great time here. A lot of details and stations to view. A full area for kids and a place to eat. There are some rides (simulators) to try for extra money. Parking nearby well cost you 30 bucks so be wary of that. Plus most of the thing to buy in museum are expensive, even for a museum. The submarine was fun to try but please be aware that there are tight (very tight) spaces.
We had a wonderful visit to The Intrepid! They have an incredible collection, and it was so neat to see all of the aircraft on the deck against the NYC skyline. The highlight for me was seeing The Enterprise- seeing an actual space shuttle was indescribable. I would absolutely recommend a visit to The Intrepid!
A must-see place when you are visiting NYC. For an Adult (13 – 64) its 33 USD and buying online is best to avoid the big lines. Also, I would go in the morning, its quieter and faster to enter - and after the visit you can go walk around the Hudson.Theres a lot of History and interesting things to learn. Also, if you are photographer, get your camera ready!
While Ive visited separately the USS Midway in San Diego, Space museums in both - Houston and Florida and USS Cod submarine in Cleveland, here you have all of them packed in one ticket and one space in the very center of NYC on Hudson river. The biggest attraction is of course the Intrepid aircraft carrier which survived severe WWII battles and kamikaze attacks. Added bonus is visiting the retired BA Concorde, but it is separately paying.Count on around 3 hrs for a visit.
We have been several times on the Intrepid. There’s discounts for Veterans/Military and NY state residents. The flight deck may be cold/windy but with the array of helicopters and jets you might not notice.Small children might have difficulty using the stairs but there are elevators. Many displays are interactive and is even fun for adults. There are space craft, helicopters, and other shuttles you can sit in. There is a VR experience but it costs extra. This is the only museum in the states that allows the public on a military submersible. With knowledgeable staff, who some have served themselves, is a wonderful experience. Every trip is different and is a must for anyone who is (or isn’t) a military buff.
Mainly went for the space stuff but also had a great time looking around on the Intrepid and its flight deck. Lots of planes and information about the history of the carrier and its importance. The space section has lots of interesting information as well as the enterprise which was way bigger than I expected, it never actually went to space but its missions on earth were very important for research into future shuttles that went to space. There is also a Russian module here that orbitted earth some 2,800 times which is really cool, just wish this part was bigger!!
Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum is the place to go. I actually see the NASA space shuttle in person, it makes you realize how big of a world we live in. I think this is by far my favorite museum Ive ever been in. To walk in the submarine that served in the 1960s was unreal to see how our veterans lived and fought for our country. The stories of what they went through makes you sad and happy at the same time. I sat in the British Airline Concord which went out of business in 2003, this plane flew about 60,000 feet and reached a top speed of moc 2!
Havent been here since I was a little girl and it didnt disappoint! The staff was awesome, super friendly and very informative. If you are in NYC visiting or live here, take advantage of what the city has to offer. Its definitely worth the trip! Extra plus that I didnt know: NYC residents get in for half price!
This is one of those places you really need a few hours to see everything. Started with the Growler Sub tour, a few staff members sporadically to answer questions very knowledgeably. Could not imagine living in there for 2 months at a time. Over to the Concorde, bummer it was not open as it was one thing I was looking forward to, but not the end of the world. Onto the Intrepid Carrier, many planes/ choppers on deck in various conditions. Far end large building is home to Enterprise shuttle, which is a sight to see up close and personal. Tons of info inside with displays. Walked through Intrepid bridge, main floor and a bit of lower floor but ran low on time. Will definitely revisit with more time to stay. Exploreum has many interactive exhibits for both children and adults. Tickets: We purchased the New York Pass. They scan it at ticket counter and hand you tickets, no time slots or delays. Vaccine Card/ ID Check very smooth, worker may tease you if you arent smiling in license photo :) Highly recommended.
Its got tons of really cool aircraft for you to see. They also opened up a lot of the utility rooms too so you can see the living quarters and workspaces. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Plus, if youre a NYC resident, you pay about $15 to get in. No-brainer on a nice day. Sub was open when I went, but Concorde was closed.
We really enjoyed our visit of the Interpid Sea, Air & Space Museum. It was my first opportunity to see aircraft carrier. Well, I expeted that it will be huge but the vessel was even bigger. Tens of airplanes and helicopters inside and on board you will probably expect. The biggest surprise for us was space shuttle Enterprise and Mars rover. P.S. Do not forget to visit the Interactive Fountain on the next pier!
I have biked Past the Intrepid during my commute so many times, and after 4 years of living in NYC, finally used the culture pass (#NYPL) to go see the museum ($33/ adult, with culture pass free) Spent 2 1/2 hours touring around, and didn’t even get to see the spaceship!I would recommend this museum to anyone in town- Especially those interested in 1940-1970s time period in American (naval & space) history. I particularly enjoyed the photo room, fo’c’s’le, and mess hall.I’m serving my country in a Govt. civilian employee capacity, and thanks to this museum, I have an even deeper respect and understanding for those our country’s naval servicemen and women from the 1940s- 1970s. Thank you!
Fabulous museum for naval/aerospace nerds. Spent several hours wandering around USS Intrepid and USS Growler looking at the aircraft and exhibits.Highlights for me were going through uss growler and a closeup look at the regulus 1 missile, the 20ft long Lego model of intrepid and the Enterprise space shuttle and chatting with the knowledgeable guides and volunteers.
Great place to spend a few hours with the kids. They loved looking at the planes, especially the sr71 and the space shuttle. The interactive kids area was especially awesome and we probably could have spent an hour there by itself.Reduced a star because the cafeteria was terrible. Pack your own lunch or get chicken strips that are the same meat as theyd chop up and put on a salad. No breading, seasoning, or anything. Kids wouldnt touch it in their meal.
These photos were taking on Veterans Day 2021. Normally my Sister-Friend and fellow Veteran Michelle and I observe this day together. I visited the Intrepid Military Museum. It was my first time and I was not disappointed. It was wonderful fellowshiping with my fellow Veterans. Honesty, my entire day great and full of wonderful surprises and nostalgic memories.
This place is AMAZING. We almost didnt bother coming, however it turned put to be easily one of the highlights of our holiday in NY. The sheer size and variety of things to see is amazing, and the staff are super friendly and helpful throughout. I have added quite a few photos, but I have left much out on purpose so as not to spoil everything, but for all ages and interests there will be something, from interactive rides and a close up and personal with some amazing vehicles.Cannot reccomend enough, if your visiting New York make sure to set aside a half day for the Interepid.
There is nothing negative to say about this great living museum. You need at least three to four hours minimum on that ship, so be carefull on your arrival time. There are also many extra activities inside with extra cost like 3D films and flight simulators. i had a great time over there and i definately recommend the visit
Cons:The people dont brief about the show schedule. Lift operation: twice daily at 2 & 4Pm. Kamikaze every 1Hr. One can schedule the walk around, keeping these two in mind.Pros: Educational insight to the yesteryears of cold war. One can spend about 4-5Hrs depending on ones appetite.Enterprise(space shuttle) kept inside and the space race highlighted.Submarine Growler, Concorde, SR-71 Blackbird as well part of the display.Closes by 5pm or so, so schedule your walk accordingly.
Went on a bank holiday weekend, the queue was long but got sorted in large tranches. Staff were good and the facilities were well looked after. Very fun experience with a lot of great history and photo opportunities! Would definitely recommend for anyone with even a fleeting interest in military history
A lil bit expensive but still worth to see. Part of museum is on aircraft carrier ship. There is also a submarine and Concorde. You can visit concorde with extra ticket that cost 7$ more. Its one of a kind experience. I really like the part of the museum where kids (and adults) could take a picture in special models, lay on beds taken from ship or pretend to be ship crew. My main aim during this visit was seeing a space shuttle Enterprise. After seeing Atlantis and Endevour I was a lil bit disappointed of the exhibition but still its really worth seeing.
There is certainly a great deal to explore at the USS Intrepid site. You can learn all about the history of the ship, visit the flight deck to see the large range of aircraft she has onboard and also take some time to visit the Space exhibition. In addition, the submarine USS Growler is also available to visit.A British Airways Concorde is also here, but at the time of my visit (11 Dec 21) was regrettably closed to the public.I would definitely recommend the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum as a good place to visit. 👍
If you like learning about history and experience flight stimulation that is definitely a place to visit. Make sure you buy for tickets on line to avoid any waiting queues.I bought the general admission, the flight stimulation and a 3D movie about ISS and a 20mins tour for Concorde.Great experience and everything was well organised and very informative.Be prepared to spend lots of time when you visit. We spent about 4hours there and I can’t say for certain if I’ve seen everything. No
June 2022. The Intrepid is a museum located on the Hudsen River at Pier 86. The museum itself is a navy warship which has been gutted and turned into a showcase for jet fighters used throughout the 20th century. You can pretend to be a sailor as you explore the navigation quarters, anchor chain room, and crew cabins, and dream about what life might have been like at sea.The museum itself is quite family friendly, there is an exhibition hall with little activity areas and photo ops. For a price, there are also some VR experiences which many people were lined up to enjoy. As an added bonus, the Intrepid also houses a NASA themed room complete with the Enterprise space shuttle, which was really neat to see. There are additional experience which cost extra (ie, submarine experience, Concorde experience) which we were not so interested in.We spent 2 hours here, but probably could have stayed another hour if we went a little slower through the exhibits.Tickets were $33 per adult.
A real Blackbird? The Enterprise shuttle?? ON a battleship??? A submarine docked at the battleship?! This museum is *incredible*, I couldnt believe my eyes. And when I saw the Blackbird on the ship I thought it would be some reproduction of it. I hope I can go back to this museum one day, it was just plain cool.
Incredible museum and I write this as someone who would usually avoid this type of museum but go to it for the sake of the kids. We all loved it. A unique experience, we all learned so much. From crawling through a submarine to getting to see how huge a space shuttle is in real life...just so much fun!
I always love going to the Intrepid. There’s tons of really cool exhibits, and plenty to see and do both inside and outside. Going through everything will take about a few hours or so. Overall, the museum has been maintained very well, and would recommend it to anyone visiting New York.
DONT BUY TICKETS ONLINE!!The minor wait outside is worth it.I took my dad and girlfriend whos from out of town. My dad got in free since hes s veteran and my girlfriend got half off since she was with me a NY resident. All came out to about $32 on the website it would have been $60+
Really cool museum that covers many interests. If theres no line for the submarine when you arrive, siggrat going there first because there WILL be a line later. Line to scan tickets for aircraft carrier will move quickly because the space is huge and accommodates many people safely.
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. The mission of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.
I Am a self identified history dweeb, so do take this with appropriate context, but this museum is INCREDIBLE!! I went with small children and they didnt even complain. There really is something for everyone here, even if you just want to sit inside the ship on a bench and be cool or warm compared to outside. The staff/volunteers are SO friendly and truly want to share this amazing piece of American history with you. Like did you know the only place on the ship that ISNT given commands port and starboard is the person steering the ship? I sure didnt! Take that Hollywood. From seeing lego creations to actual historic pieces to fully interactive exact replicas of major historic significance, if you love American history, do NOT miss this gem.
The museum is very good. It helped me look back at those tense years. After all, no one wanted to start a world nuclear war. Many meaningful old photos and old airplanes make me feel like I am going back to that time, an amazing museum. It is suitable for visiting in leisure time, and the visiting time is about 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
First things first, the staff was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, kind and fun. All of them looked like they loved working there and made us feel super welcome. The ship is enormous and the museum is incredible. Definitely a must see if you’re visiting New York.As everything else in the city, it is expensive and very “American”, as they make a show out of everything :D
The aircraft carrier is very impressive, and you get to explore many of its nooks and crannies. On the flight deck there are a multiple aircraft including the SR-71 blackbird and the Enterprise space shuttle. There is also a Concord, though it wasnt open for a tour. One of the highlights was the submarine USS Growler. You have to climb through some tight spaces, but you get to see almost everything. We spent about two hours on a not very busy day.
Wonderful museum if you are a fan of navy, aviation and space. All kinds of aircrafts and helicopters on top of historic aircraft carrier, what else can one want. You can check inside the carrier to see the rooms and beds of the navy personnel . Includes an inside museum and a space shuttle museum.Would recommend for a weekend visit.
Loved the Intrepid! We got here early and there was only a few people in line. The staff was knowledgeable and provided great insight about life on a carrier. The Enterprise was also great, enjoyed being able to walk around and see inside the landing gear hanger. We really liked the nuclear submarine and seeing how tight the space was.
I thought it was cool. Plenty to see and not super crowded on a Thursday in the summer. Good for a come couple hours if you have kiddos that like war history. Id compare it to the naval museum in Norfolk Virginia with the battleship attached, but not necessarily like a Smithsonian. It is really awesome that the museum is INSIDE the air craft carrier. And the restrooms were pretty clean. Best ages for this are probably upper elementary to younger teenagers.
They have so to see it we spent over 3 hours here they have a lot of naval things here lit planes as well and a space shuttle.the staff very friendly and helpful.they have some good places to eat as well.you will injoy it we did we highly recommend a visit to here, for all naval and space and air craft fans. You will injoy it.
This is a place you must visit. It is absolutely amazing and should be a priority for your visit to NYC.The staff is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. They are incredibly polite and helpful. They can offer all kinds of tips, hints, answers, and stories. The exhibits as well as the ship itself is well maintained and the volunteer restoration staff deserves all the praise they can get for maintaining the exhibits. On thing that should not be ignored nor forgotten is the history and legacy that is carried on, especially of those who have served abroad.I definitely plan on coming again to visit and enjoy this wonderful museum. Hopefully the Concorde and Submarine will be open by then
Great experience. I am ex Royal Air Force and still love anything aviation.... the staff are brilliant here and very well informed with the subject matter of the exhibits. I could stay for hours if my family allowed it just listening to the tales they have of the active service fays of the carrier and its crew. The exhibits on the hangar and the flight deck are very well preserved and a must see. I particularly enjoyed seeing a Blackbird and Space Shuttle up close and personal.
This place is amazing for anyone who loves space travel, military things, and sea travel. Its on an aircraft carrier for crying out loud! They have a Lockheed A-12 which is like the SR-71. The flight deck is the jackpot for any flight enthusiast and anyone who wants to learn about WWII. The inside had an open jet engine and even more planes. The best thing was the space shuttle the Enterprise. You can see it, take pictures, and learn about the history of the space shuttle missions.
Great place to bring little kids who love aircraft and ships. Easy to navigate if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The Enterprise is a must see. Great exhibit and we were amazed at the size of the craft standing under it. Also has a Soyuz craft and model of Perseverance. Definitely buy tickets in advance. Wasnt too busy on a Monday, and whole museum is huge so can fit a good size crowd without feeling crowded
Unfortunately we couldnt go in. With the new mandates they refused our business. We had our PCR tests for our kids but wasnt good enough.. The manager was very friendly and I know its not his fault. The lady (heavyset with 2 masks), that originally asked if we had our vaccines for the kids I told her we had their PCRs from 2 days ago, and they were medically excempt from the vaccine. She proceeded to ask for the medical excemption paper from the Dr. This is a violation against hippa and couldnt believe she would ask..this is sad that NYC has come down to this. Being a military family sad we cant show our kids the ship..
Amazing experience for kids and adults.. must visit if you are in NYC. We were on a weekday morning and very few people.Dining is ok but you can eat near by places. Check weather and we were on rainy day but managed to cover top floor first before rain starts. Otherwise everything is covered.
It is an interesting destination, but only if you get free tickets. Veterans get in free, as do Bank Of America customers (first weekend of the month.)The shuttle and many of the planes are prototypes or display models that never flew, or never saw service. Climbing in to the bridge of the carrier has a lead paint/PCB/Superfund smell that must be experienced to be understood
If you do love a history, you gonna love this place. Main attraction is the, of course, Intrepid and her functions, rooms and equipments of the past etc.The space vessel on the top of the carrier is a small visit of American milestones in exploring the traverse. Very cozy exhibition. Still always stunning to see that beauty. After visiting space centers in Orlando and Houston I feel very close to these.Concorde is a small portal to the horrible incident what happens 2000 to Air France. Just kinda sad I could not visit her interior. As a cabin crew I would be really interested to feel it. Maybe the museum is running tours? Not sure about this info though. The submarine was an amazing ending of the entire visit. And personally I have to say that was unforgettable experience. (How many times you can be inside of the actual submarine?) And just that echo of the past, imagining actual people spending there months...very educational and feel-able.Thank you for reliving all those experiences with visual/audio props and lots of interesting texts. Gonna pass a word for this one :)
Im a massive military nerd, and being able to move through the machines I love to learn about is an amazing experience. Spoiler alert: theyre massive. I used the explorer pass to get in, and it was worth it. They have a cold war sub which you can walk through, (images attached), as well as a massive WW2 aircraft carrier that the museum was named for. And the collection of rare machines, like the flying banana in the hanger, or the A-12, the SR-71S younger, spryer brother. And the space shuttle is way more massive than expected. Its an amazing site for all it holds. their mask policy is fair and works perfectly well. Anyone with a love of military work will be amazed by this place, which lets you get near some of the most impressive stuff ever constructed. Everyone is lovely and amazing, give them your thanks. Thanks yall, see you later.
A gorgeous piece of history right in the CityIt has been years since I heard about this museum for the first time. I always wanted to visit it, especially the submarine. So what a better time to do it than a day after Independence Day.Some of the planes looked surreal to me, like being cut out of a cartoon, but they were real pieces of history. In fact there was a helicopter that reminded me the A-TEAM. It was simple gorgeous to see each one of them, but from them all I wanted to get the feeling of what was like living inside a submarine. Can you imagine being under water inside a piece of steel in which there was not enough space for two people walking around the same hallway without having to take times. Or sleeping on super small bunk beds. God forbids any of them was claustrophobic it was a big fat No. And all of them were volunteers. That was during the Cold War...it took years. So next time you go to New York City dont forget to stop by this beautiful museum.
It was an amazing experience being in one of the US carriers. It was super cool watching all the planes and helicopters that they had for display. You also get access to the hangar, the navigation bridge and a cool ride in the airplane elevator of the ship. One of my favorite parts was the Space Shuttle and seeing how massive it is. Incredible and totally recommend!!
A nice area to take pictures. Close to a busy street. No parking, it’s nyc. Buses near by. Inside is clean. Views are breathtaking! NYC is beautiful and although the water is FILTHY, you can’t beat the location, the views, the scenery and the overall atmosphere. A must see if you’re in this area. And if you’re a tourist, I’d highly recommend you visit, especially for the pictures you’d be able to take back as memories.
Very cool museum. There is a submarine you can go inside as well as the big warship to learn how they lived and worked onside each of those. On the deck of the ship there are some aircrafts that used to be in service in war times. At the end of the deck, there is a hangar which holds some info and a model of the Enterprise space craft, which is great. The entrance ticket cost me 33 dollars, which in my opinion was more than ok for what you get.
Its a really cool place to visit alot of interesting stuff there you have a submarine that you will get inside you have jets carriers that you will get inside alot its a fun 4 hours - 3 hours museum definitely recommend for tourists and the people there are so nice ..
This museum was amazing. A must see in New York. Lots of interesting aircraft and the nuclear missile submarine was really cool, though they really need a cover to provide shade from the sun for guests while they wait to enter the sub. Had a great time. Highly recommended.
Interesting place to visit, especially for anyone interested in battleships, jets and also space shuttles. The virtual reality (which costs extra) was great! Not too crowded in the morning, recommend to purchase tickets online in advance (we bought ours for the same day).
I enjoyed a lot the museum with my family. Its really cool how you can actually get inside the only nuclear submarine in the US available to the public and see how the crew lived in there. I specially loved the space shuttle exhibit because I am a little bit a space nerd so people who likes those kind of things are really gonna love this well kept museum. Staff is so friendly and ready to answer any of your questions.
Must-visit in NYC for fans of aviation or military history. Great collection of iconic aircraft, and what a setting to house them! Submarine tour was also good fun. Some sections have veterans on hand to discuss the exhibit who were friendly and chatty. Even had an actual space shuttle and concord! I was initially apprehensive about the $20+ entry fee, however felt it was worth the cost afterwards!
Amazing, very informative 👏 you get to know the history of the ship, the marines who gave their lives in the war. The fighter planes of that time are displayed inside the ship as well as outside. Located in Manhattan New York view of sky scrapers is an additional beauty. Theres a big shop of souvenirs, from where you can buy souvenirs as gift for your family and friends. Definitely worth spending your time. And also theres a submarine you can take a tour of.
Its huge. Its not only the carrier, theres many simulators about space and aircraft, they have an extra cost but is not that expensive, between $11 and $14... worth it.On the flight deck of the carrier, at 12, 2 pm and 4 pm they have a demonstration of the elevators the Intrepid used for loading the aircraft on the carrier. (Honestly I was expecting more from this so dont worry if you miss it, the elevator just goes down and up and the hangar gates are close so no big deal)The submarine is super coolSo in resume, I totally recommend it!
I’ve had the luck to visit a few ships and this one was one of the best. As a museum it was great to learn so much history about what the ship has been thru. The space shuttle was great also to see. All the places were great and the views of the city is an added bonus. Take your time and just take it all in.The only reason it’s not a full five stars has to do with parking. For most this isn’t an issue but since I was driving in from queens, finding local parking was tough. So if your staying in the city then no big deal but for me, and only me, it sucked to drive around on the streets to get parking, which was helped by going on a Sunday. But still go and enjoy it.
This museum never fails to please me. The exhibits are always interesting and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. They have two new aircraft as well as a photography exhibit in the actual room that it was in when in active service. There is no parking but the M32 and M50 stop right next to it. The museum is also a short walk from Times Square. Anger 3 is dedicated to children,, but adults will enjoy its hands-on exhibits and virtual rides too. Must see; the 25,000 piece, 12 foot long Lego model of the Intrepid. Dont miss this WWII, Cold War, & Vietnam War Aircraft carrier turned museum.
Sadly as of late July 2021 the museum is not taking Covid safety seriously. Half the guests are unmasked, and a large number of staff are as well. Theres no temperature checks at the entrances, and numerous tight passageways, rides, theaters and elevators where unmasked tourists from around the country congregate.I loved this museum as a kid and would love to bring mine here, but with Delta variant cases rising and kids under 12 unable to be vaccinated, its much too risky. If youre visiting NYC try the NY Hall of Science instead, where they protect their visitors with a mask mandate. Plus they have mini golf and rockets!
Best part of our NYC trip! Spend more than 2 hours here easily. We got our tickets online timelsot but we still had to line up outside. Lineups for exhibits inside as well so prepare to stand! Their submarine was the absolute best, dont miss that! Lots of free small shows inside and simulator rides with an extra cost. Great for family, elevator accessible, Id just recommend going in off peak times to avoid standing in lines too much.

2022-02-22The museum spaces are so clean and well kept. Well planned out and managed. Lots of staff available to answer questions. We had a really nice time and the views from the flight deck are amazing. Be sure you ride the aircraft elevator if given the chance. The space shuttle exhibit was amazing. I had no idea it was that big and the way you enter just makes you realize it quickly. Overall a great experience. Parking can be a walk so be ready for that.

2022-06-29Fantastic museum. Plenty to see and for kids to do. Theyve done an amazing job of trying to give a glimpse of the history of the ship, those that served, the conflicts and a variety of aircraft. The staff and volunteers were very knowledgeable and helpful. There is a lot of interactive games for kids and enough to keep you there for hours. I spent 5 hours here and saw just about everything on a quiet day. In fairness, I also took a lot of pictures so it would take most people a but less time. The curators have done a great job. Absolutely loved it.

2022-04-26Intrepid is an amazing experience. I loved the submarine as it is very rare you can get to see inside of a submarine. The ship is well maintained and its good to see the shuttle also. This is a place you must visit if youre in 🗽NYC because the experience is on another level. You can witness history in a raw form. The line for submarine can be long but its worth the wait.

2022-02-26Amazing experience, great views of the city. Give yourself as much time as you can here. You can really get round the ship and have a good mooch. Only downside was the submarine was closes, but I knew that in advance and understand why. Very impressive considering only a small team work on the upkeep of the planes etc.

2022-03-17This was an excellent experience, and truly one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. This museum has a fascinating history of the US Navy and the ship that is the museum. There are Navy Veterans dotted about who are really interesting to listen to, and the ship is open for you to have a full look around. The only negative would be that the security can be a little aggressive. However, overall, I would recommend this place. I would suggest having a look at the Concorde and the space shuttle in particular.

2022-03-25Always amazing experience. The submarine and space shuttle are new editions since I was here last. Its the only nuclear sub you can tour in the US. The history is amazing and there is something for all ages. Highlight was seeing them actively seeing them restoring a plane. Pretty neat experience. Very close to Times Square, only a five minute walk.

2022-02-13Amazing place to visit. We spent about 3 hours there but could have stayed longer for sure. Amazing to see the A12 in real life and just to be around so many incredible planes. The space shuttle is the highlight 100% - could have spent 2 hours in that exhibition alone just staring at the thing. Very likely to visit again at some point.

2022-01-03Active duty Military gets free admission and 50% off with NY state ID. A lot of WWII and NASA history. Well maintained aircraft carriers. Big space shuttle inside the building on ship. It will take good 3-4 hours. Recommend to go there early to take time and cover everything. Food court, gift shop and many restrooms are available at all areas. 3D theater for additional cost. Submarine and concord tour is not available due to COVID. You will need vaccine card and ID. Must place to go while in big apple.

2022-06-08What a great museum!!! It was such a great experience. We spent 3-4 hours here, and we could have spent more if we didn’t have other plans. It’s amazing to walk on living history. We got tickets in advance and it made walking in easier and quicker. While it’s not necessary to make reservations in advance, it did make our experience better.
