Irish Haven in Brooklyn
Irish Haven in other cities:
Apparently you have to be a mind reader and know whats on the menu. The bartender became upset when I asked if there was a particular thing on the menu and I recieved a snarky remark from the bartender, giving the same energy back that was recieved apparently gets you kicked out. Horrible experience and a bit sexist, definitely will not be returning.
The music was nice and the beer was nice and tall.. everything else was pretty horrible.. Bartenders took forever to make drinks and forgot to make one.. couldnt use restroom i had to wait to use it until the female bartender was out because The females is gross.. stopped in for a night cap will never be back
Cool little hole in the wall Irish pub. Its been there for decades, its an authentic old Irish bar in what used to be a mostly Irish neighborhood. A few scenes from the movie The Departed were shot in this bar. Its a little out of the way but a nice spot to have a drink if you find yourself in the area.
This is a really nice dive bar. I have only been here during the afternoon. The atmosphere is nice and the lady bartender service is really nice too. A lot of things have been changing in nyc. Hopefully this place still be here. Love it. Please support them and don’t let it disappear
Very small with to few and too small TVs. I was there on a Saturday and the crowd was waaaayyyyy minimal. In addition to a small crowd they appeared to also be friends of some sort and they were doing karaoke. Correction doing karaoke very badly!! The staff is indifferent and and the crowd unfriendly. I went on a Saturday night and if this was the best the bar could muster on a weekend i have zero interest in seeing what happens on an off night.
An ok bar. The clientele were a little sleazy. There was a friendly barmaid called Daniella who worked here. I wouldnt be in awe of the place. There are a few photos on the wall from The Departed movie. It seems thats all the place has going for itself. I wouldnt be bothered too much about ever returning.
Went to this bar over 10 years ago, before Google and Yelp reviews were a thing. I will never forget my experience. My friend was attacked by multiple patrons. When I told the bartender that I was calling the cops, he said that it didnt matter since the cops were all patrons at the bar. He was probably right. This bar represents all that is wrong, vile, and racist in NYC.
If I could give this place a zero I would. Was just there, blonde, female bartender passed me twice and ignored me both times and there were only 12 people at the bar. 5 of which she had just serviced. Maybe it was because I was the darkest one there. Never again. Here its hours later but.. there was no African American there. The darkest person was me. I hate to rag down a mom AND pop shop because I thrive on them. However it is what it is. She, (the blonde bartender) chose to pay attention to those who where there of her color. Its not something I love to hear considering Ive been in this neighborhood and had supported you guys besides of it. I love your bar. You just need to make sure that your inhabitants tend to all.Every reviewer is whiteAs an owner you would know that ever patron is important. I appreciate your recognizing
If you ever seen the movie, THE DEPARTED, this is where the Bar Scenes in the Movie were filmed. How do I know this... bc I live just a few blocks away & passed by every day for the 3-4 weeks the Production team was around.Enjoy a piece of Movie history.Other movies were also filmed here, but I’ll fill you in on those some other time.Tata!!!
Best local bar in Sunset Park. One of best Jukeboxs in NYC! The clientele and the bartenders do have the propensity for grumpiness but depending on the night that can be part of this bars charm. the drinks are relatively cheap they have TVs if you want to watch a game, and as mentioned before the Jukebox is amazing. other than the sometimes unfriendliness of the bartender this is one of the best local dives in Brooklyn
Not the best but for a free flan Im not upset. The pricing is right but it sucks that they close at 2 on a weekend, and the kitchen closes at about 1. But from what I heard from my friend, their food isnt very good anyway. Im getting pretty close to hammered off this one margarita, so theyre doing something right, thats for sure.
This part of town hasnt jumped on the gentrification bandwagon yet. This pub is a trip. Its a great mix of townies, tourists, newbies, and hipsters. When we went there, my friend got me a drink that ended up being fifteen bucks. The woman was multiplying the cost of a shot together instead of the price of the drink thats on the price list.I told the owner, and he gave us some money off of our next round to make up for the difference. When I was in Killarney last year, a pub put me onto Greenore. I asked a bartender at Haven for it one time when I came to visit, but he dindt know what I was talkinga bout. When I came another time, the owner knew exactly what I was talking about. The owner is well versed in all things Irish and has spent substantial time there. Not that it matters for a dive, but its pretty cool. I was beyond impressed that they had this, especially after my earlier disappointment. So, obviously, their staff needs some training, but its a dive. Im not coming here expecting five star service. Just give me some good music and company, and Im a happy camper. They even have live trad music! They have a mini kitchen area that looks like its for private parties. They also have pool in the back. The mens bathroom is near the end of the bar, so thats gross. Nothing ruins a refreshing drink more than hearing a guy who has had one to many use the restroom.Ive been here with a group of eight, a group of three, and alone. Its been fun each time, a wonderful part of the neighborhood.
The Irish haven is a VERY good Irish bar all The bartenders are very friendly but Jane is the best it is a bar that does not serve food but just to have a good time playing pool and darts and every Sunday they live music. PS the bar scenes from the movie the DEPARTED were filmed at this location. Come in and enjoy.
You must always choose your friends wisely, When you feel trouble coming your way walk away from it, Its not worth the aggravation. The bar is a great place to drink in nice people anywhere you go in life there will always be 1 or two wiseguys around its hard to keep your mouth shut( I guess Im like Jackie Gleason from The Honeymooners( Alice wasnt around) I got a big mouth.(Like i said the bar is a wonderful place to chat with and Mary is a very nice bar tender I believe shes there on Saturday mornings and Sunday.(Larry the jackhammer maddog Giordano from sunset park, (Savages 1968,69,70,71,72,73) from 55th st on 4th ave Doctors stoop.
I went there last week for a drink with my brother, he was trying to order some drinks and the bartender told him “ we don’t have Mexican beer “ she didn’t even let my brother talk . That was the first thing it came out of her mouth. My brother was trying to order two negrones, first she said she didn’t know how to make it, then she said that they don’t have the ingredients to make it, when clearly she had the bottles right behind her. So we ended up ordering two Long Island iced tea. Then I personally went to order another round and I confronted her about what she had said to my brother previously and she was giving me bunch of excuses... things like we don’t serve cocktails, must hispanics want to drink Mexican beer, that I need to change my attitude . I ended up leaving that place . Awful bartender. (Not everyone) .
I almost dont wanna give it 5 stars cuz I dont want people to know about my new spot. But its chill. Didnt feel out of place at all, almost like a cheers type of situation. I worked in the neighborhood for 3 years and never ONCE ever gave this bar a second thought. It was my loss
Great authentic Irish bar (coming from someone whos been to most pubs in Ireland!) Right at the N&Rs footsteps. Its even been featured in movies.Whats great about this bar (aside from authenticity) is the cheap pints, true Irish customers (though it would be cool to have them bartend - although the bartenders are very nice), the special events like all you can drink parties with buffet, live music events, and cool decor! There is a juke box rocking 80s, oil tame, darts, etc. Fabric bar, exactly what this part of bk needed.
I dive — a thoroughly lovely dump right by the train with welcoming clientele and warm bartenders who understand the meaning of a buyback. Cheap drinks and a range of tunes pumping from the jukebox, from Irish anthems to indie-ish rock, make this establishment one of the best in Sunset Park. The taps are fairly standards, and, while theres no food at the bar, Tuesday night is taco night where you can fix yourself up free tacos until they run out. Usually on Sunday (accompanied by live music), someone will order in food for the bar. If youre lucky, theyre getting homemade pierogies provided by one of the bartenders.
FIRSTLY, I went in there the first time recently In October 2017, I then asked for the cheapest beer on tap, I was there when it opened btw, they still would not serve me with the proper credentials after going on an errand to obtain the proper credentials I returned to the restaurant after about half an hour and this was after I had already used the bathroom there. I then asked him if I could use the bathroom he said sure I recently told the gentleman that Im getting over a stomach virus that I cant control my bowels and it might be a little bit messy he said this would be no problem I insisted that I would like to clean it up because it can get pretty nasty like I said HE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO CLEAN IT UP!!! Last after doing some shopping in Sunset Park Brooklyn I came back to Irish Haven bar and another gentleman not the gentleman that I first spoke with about bathroom being fine about him cleaning it up told me that Im not allowed to come back to the restaurant and he cannot serve me because I made a mess in the bathroom even though I was willing to clean it up from top to bottomNO FOODEXCEPT FOR WEDNESDAYS ( O WOW THE WINGS, CANT FORGET THE WINGS.

2022-05-10Great service, am from and live in the neighborhood but 1st time went there ordered an Irish car bomb and the socially inept barkeep said he doesnt make that. Odd, peculiar. This time got an old favourite and barkeep was on point, will return...someday. Returned to the joint on what appeared to be a NYPD gathering, only realised after nursing my Guiness then having to wash my hands. Its a Sunset Park joint and we respect and appreciate the 72nd. The joint was open for business and the cultural exchange, memorable. Still havent noticed 30-40 yrs old clients, the joint is classic Irish in Brooklyn. Happy theyre a part of my community.

2021-08-22I never wouldve seen the inside of this bar (a sunset park holdover from the olden days), if my alcohol-loving friends hadnt dragged me here... :-DAm glad I showed up that night for drinks - and banter - at the Irish Haven. We were greeted and served our drinks by a friendly bartender (Steve?) and learned that the back room - furnished with a pool table - was featured in The Departed movie... There is a good selection of beer and liquor, and a jukebox for your musical entertainment.
