Iron Skillet in other cities:
I like Iron Skillet overall, but this day I went to this particular one the waitress rung me up and charged me for everything I asked for except my cup of milk. Im not petty, I dont think that warrants a bad score because of 1 persons negligence. I didnt leave her a tip because of that though. Pet peeve of mine. I literally almost always tip too 💯
Large, airy dining room, tables and booths available. Big portions of homestyle comfort food; hash browns are crispy on the outside, the chicken-fried steak is to die for. The restaurant is part of a travel plaza, with gas pumps for cars and diesel for the big rigs, a convenience store, and nice restrooms. Full services for truckers, including a separate dining room, fitness center, showers, and laundry.
Coffee is over $3 a cup. A large orange juice was $3.99. Their hash browns were way under cooked with only one side having any color of brown on it. Had the meat omelette and that was good. The wait staff was friendly and very efficient. Paid $39 for breakfast and wont go back anytime soon.
I was having a horrible three weeks and late night not only are they open she gives me an extra piece of chicken tells me happy holidays and lets me pour my own coffee amazing place I wouldn’t trade iron skillets for the world you really do keep America truck drivers rolling
The one star review is not pertaining to the wait staff as the 2 servers we dealt with were fine. It is the wait time for food. From the time we placed our order to the time we got our food was 45 minutes for drop and fry plates. During a non busy time of day. Didnt bring us our soups. Not sure if that was kitchen or miscommunication between wait staff. The chicken fingers were smaller then a sand dollar and my fried fish was cold not worth the price. We will not be going back. Almost walked out before receiving food but didnt want to screw the waitress on the bill.
About average, Texas hamburger steak, a bit overpriced at $16.99 for a pound of pretty bland and greasy hamburger, put it this way, even the A1 didnt want to stick to it. But it was hot and edible. Just really sucks that menu is so lousy, all the good stuff bo longer served
I should have been served a doggy bag with my meal, when it was, placed infront of me. As that, is whom, that meal was made for. Unpalatable,! How does a seasoned steak taste bland?? The steak was fatty & tough. I got maybe 3 bites from it & the rest, I saved for my dog. My side, was a mixed vegetable. That tasted & felt, like it was made of rubber.I wont stop here again
6 chicken fingers and fries for 11.99. the chicken fingers was small and not very much in fries. So not worth the price. I should of gone to McGee country diner the food is better and the price. If you want a good meal go anywhere but to iron skillet. The food was not even hot. It was like it sat there for 15 mins or more. And you get a small cup of dipping sauce that dont cover all the chicken fingers.
The food was perfect. No complaints there. The waitress is what ruined it. Tiffany brought us our entries and we asked about the rest of the orders... she said she has only 2 hands and if we could please wait. No problem. We asked normally. No pressure.Waited for the rest of order and she never brought it. Decided to tell her when she came up to us towards the end of our lunch. Specifically it was the toast and sour cream. She said she will bring it. I said there is no need , we were done. But she still brought it cuz she was showing attitude. I dont get it... i thought we supposed to be upset??We were patient the whole time. And she still forgot to bring the rest of the order with her 2 handsI understand if ur busy but keep ur attitude to urself. Thats why in the end u got my attitude in return.Props to the cook tho, food was excellent 👌
I just had the absolute WORST meal, ever!First they no longer had a Buffett that was the main reason we went. Then I ordered the fish basket platter that came with four tiny pieces of fish and salt fries. These fries had so much salt on them it was not even edible!12.00 and Im going to McDonalds now!
Jan 30 2021. I miss the buffet that is for sure. Today I saw they had a new and improved chicken fried stake. The picture looks as if the meal is homemade. I said to myself go in and try it. NOT GOOD! I have had better chicken fried stake from the frozen section at any supermarket for 3$. I will not let this experience ruin me on the Iron Skillet. I will say Chicken Fried Stake is really easy to make from scratch, would you like for me to come in and show you how to make it? I did leave a tip because the staff was wonderful. from one to five on your CFS I give it a -1. That is the 2nd bad experience with your restaurant. Last year I went in and only wanted a cheese burger to go with a coffee I was charged 13.51$ i said this must be a mistake I didnt order anything but a burger and coffee, the waitress at the time said nope fries or not the price is still the same. . I am not playing baseball here I really hope there wont be a 3rd strike..
Coast to Coast hotshot run. Stopped by here for a cooked meal.Did NOT disappoint!I ordered my favorite from years back when I lived near an Iron Skillet.CHICKEN-FRIED STEAK.Ate and slept like a king.My family were all happy with their selections and we almost ate it all.Hit the spot and gave me great energy to truck-on.
Food was garbage, waitress was very rude. We ordered an omelette that somehow had peppers in it but when we asked for peppers and onions in our homefries our waitress said they dont have peppers there. So how is this possible. Im guessing probably everything is microwaved. Sure tasted like it!
Sub par. The service was terrible and the veggies were clearly heated up from frozen likely in a microwave? My grilled salmon looked like that could have been the same case. The fries were good and it looked like the steak and burgers were as well but waiting 30+ minutes for okay and slightly questionable food was very off putting.
Went first time for breakfast buffet. All “hot” foods were cold. Sausage was undercooked. Food that was supposed to be cold was good, like pasta salad. Still have a stomach ache almost 12 hours later. But fast, friendly service! Seems to be quite a few good reviews, so not sure what was going on today but I will stop in again and see if it was just a bad day.
As a long haul trucker Ive eaten at a lot of Petros and I was very disappointed in this one. I ordered the NY strip steak meal. When it got to me and I was not happy. It was paper thin. Before ordering I ask the waitress if the potatoes were real or powder mixed with water. She said no they are real. Wrong they were powered. Theres no mistaking those for the real deal fresh made. The salad that came with it was not very good either. Dont recommend eating here. O and did I mention 25 bucks for and super small meal. 1 icecream scoop of fake potatoes. Child size. And paper thing steak.
The service was excellent,The food was delicious, the restaurant was clean and I couldnt be happier. I cant wait to go back. When I first arrived my server seemed kinda unfriendly. So I just treated her with manors respectfully (figured maybe someone was rude or shes having a bad day). We took some time to order but once we received our food I saw an allergy of mine. OH they usually dont put cheese in coslaw and Im hospital grade allergic to cheese. (I know unfortunate) I told the server and she was SOOOOOOOO helpful. She offered me options not on the sides menus just to accommodate my food allergy. Then when we left she gave us both Go-To drink cups. Absolutely excellent. Im going back so I can leave a bigger tip at least!
The food is what you expect of a truck drivers restaurant. The buffet is stale and been sitting out for a while without change over. Not to mention the buffet is expensive for what it is. Go to Magees dinner nextdoor and enjoy a better meal. I have been to both a few times and thats the best advice I can give on this place to eat.
The buffet was poor quality. Meatloaf was almost liquid. It seemed like the food had been sitting for a while. Fish and mac and cheese may have been the better choices, but still not best quality. Desserts were not very appealing at all. If you want a nice salad bar this may be the thing to get. Too bad there is a lot of opportunity here.
Love this place...we found it by accident!! Had heard that truck stops have great good. This place is just that. They even have a buffet. Obviously geared to the long haulers, it has everything to make their hard jobs a little better. We were passing by one day and thought, heyyyy...worth a try Now we drive the hour and a half for a change up from the usual chain restaurants. Their staff is very hospitable...the kinda folks you only see on TV where customers are treated with the best service to be found.
Disgusting food. Got at the buffet close to closing and although salad looked like it been sitting there it had some dark pieces there was nothing else Appetizing. Ended up in the er after eating the salad. Called to let the manager know of the situation she said she doubted it was the salad. Super rude not worth what I paid to get sick. Just disgusting!
Salad bar is very good. Two soups available daily. The hot buffet offered four different main entree meats. There was also trays of hot dogs and hamburger patties available. Their fried chicken was crispy and delicious. Hot vegetables, mashed potatoes as well as a choice of breads. There are desserts available that are included with the buffet. That day there were cream puffs and squares of cakes. In the salad bar you have jello, fruits or pudding if you choose to forgo the other desserts.
The food was AMAZING besides the fact that the fish was gone and never refilled and there were no croutons for it salad bar. The waitress was a disgrace.. We sat down to a dirty. Sticky table and when we asked for it to be washed, she started flinging crumbs and whatever else at use as we were still tying to shimmy out of the booths. She had the audacity to ask what our problems were, and was extremely rude the remainder of our stay, after the look on my face told her all she needed to know.
For something named for the largest state in the continental US, my portion of the Texas chicken was barely visible next to the pile of browned dried mashed potatoes. Our party also was served raw chicken... always a special treat, some had the buffet... looked atrocious. Staff was actually pleasant though. However, run! Run as fast and as far as you can and dont look back.
Iron Skillet is a truck stop by trade, but it is also a great food stop for travelers. A restaurant with breakfast all day long with hamburgers, steak, sandwiches and other great home cooked style food. Prices are competive and a bonus, they have a cute little truck stop store with novelties of various themes. Service is with a smile, kind words and very attractive.
TERRIBLE FOOD & SERVICE. If I could give this place a 0 star, I would. They dont even deserve a 1 star. Stopped at their buffet yesterday after we couldnt get into the Del Lago buffet because my cousin wasnt 21. The buffet food looked like it had been sitting all day. I got mash potatoes and corn, was going for the gravy, but it was hard on the top so I grabbed some chicken drums. My girlfriend is 7 months pregnant and went to eat the chicken that was completely uncooked inside, while I ate a bite of the mash potatoes with hard corn. The food looked like slop that you see on jail movies and shows on TV. I asked for a manager and said Id pay for the drinks. The cashier said she would get the manager so I waited. 15 minutes went by of me standing there, and was finally told, They were disputing it now. I then went back to my table and asked the lady that came up if she was a manager, she replied, No, but here is your bill. I said Ill pay for the drinks and she says, Oh, ya, well need a manger for that, that I now had been waiting 20 minutes for. I never seen any manager anywhere and was starving and wanted to go to Arbys as it has better reviews then this place. I was finally given my $6 bill for two fountain drinks and went to cash out. As I was waiting now for the cashier, the guys behind me were saying how one of them was sick to his stomach from the food and wanted to get something from the gas station instead. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE.
Had dinner last night it was perfect!!!me and my friend had steak and baked potatoes.Cooked just the way we wanted it.went back this morning I got bacon eggs and hash browns with a side of sausage patties ...the food was not cooked all the way,not even close the bacon and sausage looked liked it was flipped once threw mine away and he took his in.waitress was nice but that was $20 down the drain
Thanksgiving Day! Ah, yes, the time for loved ones to gather round and share stories and create memories. However, on occasion you can’t be with those you love for one reason or another. I would like to give a shout out to our Hostess today “Brenda”. The moment we entered she made us feel like we were family, until the time we left. The whole staff was efficient and friendly and very accommodating. We shook the blues away and dined on their delicious Thanksgiving Day all you can eat buffet which consisted of most of your favorites served on your own holiday tables. They kept the area clean as well and never missed a beat. I would go back another time if I had nowhere else to be. So if you’re in the mood for some holiday cheer, stop into the Iron Skillet in Waterloo NY @ the Petro TStop. Good people, good food and good company
Good morning truck drivers girls 700 this morning I was at the Iron Skillet Restaurant Waterloo New York inside the Petro delicious food chicken fried chicken sausage gravy home fries with mushrooms and onions cooked on the grill sourdough toast eggs over easy coffee water excellent service axle waitress excellent Food Drivers dont forget to come in all you other people that yak truck drivers youre more than welcome to come in and enjoy a good service and good food prices arent bad are open from 7 a.m. to 2000 come on in Iron Skillet restaurant inside the Petro Stopping Center Waterloo New York right there along the Interstate 90 freeway I give him five gold stars do they well worth it
Came for Friday night fish fry, which was apparently only during Lent (???). Ordered the fish entree anyway, and it was mediocre at best. Nothing frozen Highliner couldnt accomplish. The side of sauteed vegetables tasted as if it were seasoned with cleaning products. I get points on Google for adding pictures, and still could not be bothered to photograph my meal. The meal included a trip to the soup and salad bar, which was also subpar. The soup was not good, and terribly salty. I previewed the buffet on my way to the salad bar, and must insist that nobody partake of it. Every item was dried out, with a crusty, hardened layer on top - presumably from sitting there for many hours.
5/30/2021 4:30pm table 25/1 iron skillet server Melissa truly exemplifies the worse in customer service and interaction with the general public absolutely no excuse for her conduct by far the most rude and shun type personality shame on you I can only pray you never seek employment in extended care facility
Food was alright but they no longer give a Fire Fighter discount if your a volunteer because your NOT in uniform. My uniform is my everyday clothing because Im on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Oh and if your a Veteran or currently in the military, or a Corrections officer you DONT get a discount either. This is a very piss poor way to run a business. In saying what I have Ill never step foot in there again. In the future PETRO you better hope that your business doesnt catch of fire because if it does us the Volunteer Fire Fighters that are not good enough for a discount wont show up to help you.
Absolutely by far the worst tasting buffet I have ever had in an Iron Skillet restaurant since year 2000. Petro has been going downhill for a while. The merger with TA didnt help. In 2000 Petro generally had the best truck stop food on the road. Now they have the worst. This restaurant redefined worst. Its a new low. The food was awful. Surprisingly, the soft cookies with dried cranberries and white chocolate chips were delicious. The restaurant decorations were beautiful. Its a shame the food was so bad. I wont eat here again. Ill make do with Subway instead.
,Tables and chairs are nasty dirty I used 4 Lysol wipes to clean my table & chair, they must use dirty towels to clean table. Clean floors though, never eat buffet, staff is nice. Ordered bacon n eggs, got eggs w/broken yokes and burnt black bacon, server was very apologetic and had them fix. Also wish all truck drivers would shower B4 coming to eat. Ok food is low grade. This trucker should have gone GrubHub.
I wish I could do zero stars lady brought me my Good when I open up silverware the fork had already been used by a customer before me never seen any water asked for management that never came they tried to give me free desert took 10% off check but come on how do you fix filth by not charging i dont think so this petro needs to be shut down i would not recommend this place to my animals
If you think your though and think that SHELLY at the skillet restaurant is not going to give you great service regardless of your state of mine your in for a great surpriseShe is as thought as you areBut she will do her job regardless of how bad you think you areI love this woman and I just met herI mean it in a good wayI was in a real bad moodAnd she made me realize how of a jerk I wasAnd made me apologize without even askingI walk out of this place a happy manBelieve meNo one can make me think like this no oneAnd she made it happenShe serve me and made me feel better than home I can tell you thatI recommend her to be incharge of public relationsThank you skillet for having Shelly as a server good choice never let her goInstead give her a promotion.
I never understood why a place that has such nice people that will go out the why for you in one state but in another they dont.....I in there a 15 minutes before closing I rush in an ask for a Togo plate to fix a salad only with all the vegetables still out but no thongs.....the gentlemen told all I had to do was ask the waitress and she cold fix ma Togo order....I see them whispering the whole time and she put her head down and came out to my face and told we dont do that......this place really needs to this about what NEW YORK VALUES ARE.....OR IRON SKILLET VALUES ARE....IM SORRY NOT HERE TO FIRE ANYONE BUT THIS ADMINISTRATION HERE HAS A CULTURE OF LOOKING DOWN AT SOME OF AMERICANS HARDEST WORKERS....THIS HAS TO STOP ...... BTW I LOVE IRON SKILLET

2021-08-02The best skillet omelettes I had!!!They have a limited menu without meat but whatever they serve is hands down the best. We ordered a BYO omelette combo and the portions are huge! The taste is amazing, was surprised for the quality of food they gave. They also have classic desserts and kids menu separately so anyone can enjoy here.

2022-01-26Great service, great staff, great food. I enjoyed the Pork Chop breakfast. I had my chop breaded southern style. It was one of the juiciest, and most flavorful pork chops I have ever had. My eggs were perfect, and so were my pancakes and has browns. Kudos to all.

2021-10-09Food is good! Plenty of options. Sandwiches and breakfast are my favorite from my past visits, but the smothered hamburger steak I got tonight was decent too!

2022-03-14Pitiful amount of food for $16.50 US with a drink, minus well ordered off the kids menu. Youll leave hungry. Waitress was nice tho.

2022-05-05Food was really good and the staff was friendly. Took a few minutes to cook it all, but I didnt expect them to get that done by snapping their fingers. They noticed us rather quickly after sitting down as well. Really enjoyed dinner here.

2020-12-24The wait staff is clearly a family. They all contributed to our dining experience. I witnessed them addressing a couple regulars by name when they arrived. The welcoming spirit was genuine. I had the soup and a grilled chicken cordon bleu sandwich. The sandwich was so good I forgot to take a picture. I would definitely come here again.
