Dr. Nejat and his team are top notch! The office is clean and well run. Staff is professional and pleasant. I had cataracts removed and pan optic lenses implanted. It is life changing! Best decision I’ve made. No more squinting or fogging glasses (from mask). I CAN SEE! The procedure was quick and painless. I had so much unnecessary anxiety before the first procedure. Second one was a breeze. Recovery was easy. Virtually no down time at all. Dr. Nejat is cutting edge, knowledgeable and caring. The best in my opinion. I highly recommend this practice

Just cant imagine anyone making the experience better than my treatment at Island Eye Surgery Specialists. Having had the catarac in my right eye removed by Dr.Nayet two weeks prior I found the entire process, this time my left eye, painless as I had before. Everyone involved at office and at the hosital was professional and friendly. In my experience I just can not imagine anything could have been better.
Dr. Nejat is a great doctor! His exam is very thorough. He always makes you feel at ease. He answers your questions and any concerns you may have. His staff is courteous, friendly and professional. The office is clean and is well maintained. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
I walked in almost blind. After my cataract surgery everything was crystal clear. Dr. Gerstenfeld was the kindest, most knowledgeable and comforting Doctor I every had the pleasure of knowing. He and his staff went out of their way to help alleviate my fears. I highly recommend Dr. Gerstenfeld.

Wonderful job practicing social distancing. Patients were redirected where to sit, they used pencils and had a bucket to placed used ones and staff cleaned the chin and forehead equipment after each patients. I really appreciate how serious they take cleanliness.Met the MD for the first time, he was polite, small talk but not too much and he was quick.Towards the end of my visit they even gave me shade insert for my glasses to help me drive home. I was very happy with my first visit.

Island surgical group is so welcoming from the minute you walk in.. TINA and DONNA always with a smile and what a great team they are. After i checked in and was waiting for a copy of my script, I watched the interaction of the reception desk with eachother and with patients walking in.. friendly, professional, courteous and always with a compliment to make you smile! Staff friendly.. Examining assistants knowledgeable and courteous. Regiment of tests given are done in order with no wasting time in between each test. I went to Dr.Gerstenfeld’s office for an annual eye exam and refraction for a noticeable change in my eyesight. His staff was professional, helpful and attentive to my concerns. They brought this to Dr. Gerstenfeld’s attention and he followed through with a complete exam and testing to find that all is fine and well but a new prescription was needed for my eyeglasses. Dr. Gerstenfeld is exceptional, super sensitive to ones needs and brilliant in his field. I recommend him without any question.
My first impressions on the front desk check in I would say don’t go. Very unprofessional and rude. Once I went in every other encounter with staff was great. The girls in the back were pleasant and welcoming. Doctor listened to my questions answered them all. Check out was a breeze and ladies were professional and polite. Other then the front desk I recommend this office.

My sister in-law dr recommend her dr to me and they could not remove scar tissue with yag laser but did recommend island eye surgery specialist, I called they gave me an appointment in 2 days for consultation, I down loaded forms on line went to office handed in papers took the front desk girls less than 1/2 hr to ck me in , 1st person in room asked few questions and did few test, to me to sit in waiting room,in less than 5 min a was called into exam room for final questions and then doctor Gerstenfeld came in gave me a examination and explained what was going on told me in detail my options he examined me and did laser surgery in under a hour, I look forward to going back next week for follow up great staff from front door to check out desk I do recommend them for eye care to allAnthony

I had lasik surgery 13 years ago by DR Nejat, although I’m still 20/20 I do need a slight prescription for the tv and at night. I haven’t been to the office since 2015 and boy has it changed. It’s new beautiful and clean. The women Angela took care of me before the doctor and she was amazing. I recommended many people to Dr Nejat and he has never disappointed any of them including myself.

I dont usually write reviews, however the experience my father and I had was far superior than we have experienced elsewhere. From the second we walked in to the office (which all appears to be brand new) we were greeted with a friendly staff who answered all of our questions and reviewed the administered paperwork with us. We met with a few different technicians who had a professional approach and explained each test to us in terms we were able to understand. When we met with the doctor for the first time he had excellent bedside manner and was patient with our care. We did experience a bit of a wait, which was later understood due to the comprehensive nature of the exam. We have now been here multiple times and would definitely recommend this practice to others!

My visit was one of the most pleasant experiences when seeing any kind of doctor. The staff was exceptionally attentive as soon as you walk in the door. The staff was very knowledgeable and warm. They walked me through all the procedures and then was seen by the doctor (Dr David Gerstenfeld ) He explained everything that was done and diagnosed my issue to the T! He provided further follow examinations that were required and provided his recommendations as to where to go. I highly recommend this office. For years I was having focusing issues and saw multiple optometrists and ophthalmologists. Even went through vision therapy at one point thinking that was the issue with no success. Dr Nejat genuinely listened to me and thoroughly examined me. A simple solution of changing my brand of contacts gave me better vision than Ive had in years. Something so simple but so genius! I made an appt as a new patient so that I could get an eye exam. My charts says chief complaint : LOSS OF VISION / Their office put New patient - floaters ?! CONFUSED! Ive NEVER had floaters nor was there any talk of them. They asked if my eyes were dry, I said no and that I never use drops. I mentioned I had PRK and sometimes had a pain in one eye on and off, but not a dry feeling. NO HISTORY is what was put under procedures, they never listed PRK in 2016. I had no idea what the heck was going on. I thought they were examining my eyes to see if I needed glasses again which is quite common years after the procedure. They had me do the whole read the letters, which one looks better blah blah…… lights in my eyes --- Dr. G told me he saw NO DRY PATCHES in my eyes, but my chart somehow says dry eye (confusion continues). He said my vision was close to 20/20 - Then he said my eyes were healthy and he didn’t see any problems but maybe (100% sounded like he was just guessing now) that it could be my eyelid glands causing the crust in my eye. I stopped him there and said I don’t have a crusty eye problem. He continued with clear guessing BS that hed like me to try out this eye drop (that has no generic and cost over $200) and come back next week. I said OK, and I was directed to the CASHIERS counter, paid up and was given a new appt. I went back a week later, he asked me if anything changed and I said NO (bc my vision hadn’t changed) and that the drops did nothing but irritate my eyes after about the 4-5 day. His reply was, thats ODD, ive never gotten that feedback. -- but hey, I guess if your eyes didn’t really need them in the first place (grr) He left me with… your eyes are completely healthy and you should come back and have a full eye exam. He led me to the CASHIERS counter again where I paid up again and the ladies made me an apt for an eye exam and reminded me I would be responsible for yet another $60 copay and possibly an additional $40 for something else. I walked out of their Office feeling confused and very uneasy and not understanding. After 3 long minutes of staring at their building from my car in the parking lot I wondered WHY I STILL HAVEN’T HAD AN EYE EXAM TO SEE IF I NEEDED GLASSES and why I was going back x3. I went back in to ask nicely for an understanding– the receptionist was on my side and also confused bc it clearly said LOSS OF VISION as my chief complaint and why I made an apt and also didn’t know how or why it mentioned FLOATERS! The dr wouldn’t even come out himself to talk to me and I was his last patient so he wasn’t with another patient half the staff had already left and the cleaning men entered. He sent the female technician who made no sense prob bc it was her who ran with some fake problem in my eye rather than a standard exam and blurted out incorrect info as if she was reading off another patients chart. FLOATERS/DRY EYES/INFLAMMATION ?? I explained that I was there twice already, had already spent $120 in copays , 2 office visits billed + $ on those (guinea pig) drops and was expected to come back AGAIN for the exam I came there for in the first place and still pay another copay + them milk my insurance for another visit. She was honest enough to say the dr doesn’t care about what peoples copays are (clearly, hes trying to get me in a 3rd time) Why wouldn’t they just give me the EXAM RIGHT THEN AND THERE ??????? I would never go there again. The technician wouldnt even admit fault as to the incorrect info in the chart they put in there and kept claiming that I complained of dry eye, which now… my second “document” in my online portal now states as my chief complaint. WHAT A HOAX. They should’ve given me the exam right then and there or had me come back and not try to squeeze any more money out of me or my insurance for NOTHING. BAD BUSINESS !!!!
Dr. Nejat performed my PRK surgery on me last month and Im thoroughly impressed with the results. I would recommend this doctor to anyone, any time, any day!

Dont ever purchase eyeglasses at this place. it is a trap they get you when you come out of the doctor and are all there to take your money but try to get service or an appointment you get the run around. worst customer service i ever experienced. when you call they leave you on hold. If you leve messages they never call you back

After being frustrated with wearing glasses and contacts for 15 years to correct my distance vision, I can now see 20/20 and I couldn’t be happier!

Dr. Nejat ruined my grandfather’s eye. He failed to correctly perform his cataract surgery which led my grandfather to waste thousands on trying to repair it. Dr. Nejat said he would fix it and ended up making it even worse. Would not recommend having surgery by him.
Dr. Nejat took care of my cataract 6 months ago and I can’t stop singing his praises. He has been my Doctor for the last few years after my primary care doctor recommended him to me. He has always treated me with such care and respect and when. I started having trouble driving at night he diagnosed me with a cataract. He explained to me how to fix my problem and he gave me choices about what type of lens to choose. He assured me that I would be happy with whatever lens I chose and did not put any pressure on me. I ended up choosing the “better” lens and now i don’t even need glasses for most things that I do! Dr. Nejat is a exceptional Doctor and his office and staff are excellent.

The best on the Island BY FAR!! I have been to the other doctor on the Island and Dr. NEJAT blows them all away. I had cataract surgery done by him three weeks ago and have 20/20 vision. I was seeing the doctor across the street from his office and they kept on giving me drop and drop and performing unnecessary test even though I kept on telling them I was blurry. I went for a second opinion and within 5 minutes the good doctor NEJAT diagnosed me and scheduled me for surgery. (he even apologized for the other doctor who misdiagnosed me for over 4 months!). Before you decide on anything see him. You wont be sorry!
I had what I thought was pink eye. I called my brother for which eye doctor he goes to. He said Dr Nejat. I called an had an appointment the same day. After seeing Dr Nejat, he said I had allergies. I never had to fill a prescription, he gave me a sample. After 2 days I was feeling so much better and what an experience. The office is unbelievable, with great staff & clean. Thank you Dr Nejat. I will be referring friends and family to you, just as my brother did for me. Really good Doctor !!

The office is immaculate!!! equipped with state of the art equipment! From beginning to end it was an overall easy going experience, I promise you, You will not be disappointed! I have been going with my patient to see Dr. Gerstenfeld for four years. Every few months or so, my patient complains about having terrible pain in his eyes with blurred vision. And every time we go to see the Dr. Gerstenfeld, he comes in to the examining room and spends a hot 3 minutes with my patient and gives him the same medication that does not seem to work. In four years never once have I seen Dr. Gerstenfeld test my patients eye pressure or dilate his pupils to try and get to the root of his problem, or ask my patient to make an appointment for a complete exam, nope, 3 minutes, same script. Then, hes asked to make an appointment for 3 months! For the same 3 minute exam! Lol!! It takes more time and effort to get in your car, drive through Staten Island traffic, find parking, wait in the waiting room, for a 3 minute appointment! And, as I sat inside, by the appointment desk, silently observing everything thats going on in the office, I notice that its not just my patient that gets the3 minute special but ALL of his patients get the same treatment! In and out 1,2, 3!!Its a business!!. The days are over when Dr.s truly cared! Now, Its all about money:(

I can’t thank Dr. Nejat and all the staff at Island Eye Surgery. I am twenty-five years old and wore glasses for as long as I can remember. I started wearing contacts at the age of thirteen. After years of constantly being in pain, dry eyes and numerous infections I never thought it was possible to rehabilitate my eyes. The last draw was a little over a year ago, I had red rings around my cornea, my vision was blurry and my right eye couldn’t fully open. Being recommended to Dr. Nejat was the best thing that could ever happen. He couldn’t believe how damaged my eyes were and even saw crater like indents in my eyes from years of infections. He immediately told me strictly wear my glasses, put drops in multiple times a day and go for frequent visits. About a month later I was recommended the PRK surgery. PRK is like lasik eye surgery except for a few extra steps, this was the better choice being my eyes were so badly damaged. The surgery was not even an hour ! He guided me during the procedure which put my mind at ease. I was instantly able to see, it was painless, and the healing process was a couple of days. He gave me strict instruction for post PRK surgery and everything went amazing. It’s such an amazing feeling to wake up in the morning and be able to see! I would recommend anyone to Island eyes especially those like myself who suffer from the chronic and painful dry/red eyes from contact lenses. Thanks again Island Eye Surgery.

I just want to say thank you to Doctor Nejat for giving me my vision back. I just had cataract surgery in both eyes and with the new Pan Optix lens. I now have 20/20 vision. My vision had gotten so bad that glasses were not working, which caused me to not be able to drive at night. I stopped driving at night 8 months ago because of the cataracts and my fear of having the surgery. Dr Nejat put all my fears to rest and changed my quality of life. I’m back to driving at nighttime without a problem and I’m able read without glasses. I would like to let everyone know that reads this that the surgery is a breeze. From the wonderful office staff, to the hospital staff- they all were the best and made this a pleasant experience. Thank you again Doctor Nejat. This procedure and type of lens used have been life changing!

Dr. Nejat has been my eye doctor for many years but after many years of normal routine eye care visits, I recently developed high eye pressure. Dr. Nejat is monitoring my situation checking on me again in a few months. I write this review now because with this recent new development, I am able to see how well he cares for his patients from those with normal preventive care to now a patient with an eye issue. He is reassuring and informative at the same time while being a wonderful diagnostician. Dr. Nejat is able to figure out what is wrong with a test as a back up if needed, but his knowledge and expertise is always on the money. He works with patients with insurance issues as I now can attest to and I am overwhelmed by his compassion. I came home tonight speechless with gratitude.
What excellent doctors !!!!!!!!!! Dr Nejat & Dr Gerstenfeld are the best eye doctors I have ever had the pleasure to exam my eyes. I made an appointment for a second opinion on cataract surgery. Well I had Cataract surgery by Dr Nejat approximately 3 weeks ago with PREMIUM LENSES, and now I do not need glasses! Even for reading!!! The process through Dr Nejat , surgical coordinators and the hospital was smooth and the end result has been a life changer for me. I can see perfectly without my glasses and the colors are vibrant. I highly recommend these Doctors for initial consults or second opinions. My other doctor wanted to charge me almost double the price for premium lenses. Unbelievably LONG wait time! 6:15 appointment for just normal eye exam for script for glasses. 2 hours ! they have about 9 people or more working there too?? they call you from waiting room, give you one part of exam, send you back to waiting room for 20 mins. call you again for next part of exam then send you back to waiting room. Then call you again for doctor to see you and left me in exam room until I went out in hall and yelled for someone. it is the rudest thing ever! they think your time is not important. I am done with them.

FIVE starts aren’t enough for this wonderful practice. I went to Dr. Nejat for a Lasik/PRK consultation and walked out knowing even if I decided not to have the procedure that I had found an excellent Ophthalmologist that I would continue to see.After a thorough exam Dr. Nejat fully explained the Lasik and PRK procedures in full detail to me he answered all of my questions and concerns.After a few weeks of decision-making and a follow up where Dr. Nejat even offered me a better quality contact lense then I was currently wearing as an option instead of surgery I scheduled my PRK procedure. Everything went great and it was the best decision I ever made.I would recommend Dr. Nejat to anyone interested in laser eye surgery or in need of an excellent Ophthalmologist.

2022-03-04I have been working with Island Eye Surgery Specialists for over two years. As a vendor for this practice, I dont have experience with either of the doctors, but I have spent much time with members of the office staff - most notably Joe and Kerianne. I have to say that I have never experienced a team more committed to ensuring that their patients have a positive experience than at this practice. They care about EVERY aspect of the visit - from check-in to check-out. It is truly impressive!

2022-03-14I recently had cataract surgery and all I can say is it’s the first time since I was 6 years old that I don’t need glasses to get out of bed in the morning, or for anything other than reading. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dr. Nejat is the best. I highly recommend him to anyone.

2022-08-10Everybody is kind and helpful, and they all work quickly. My early arrival allowed me to be seen in a few minutes. Both the technician as well as the doctor were attentive and comforting. The workplace has been recently cleaned and has been tastefully designed. Unfortunately, the TV wasnt very amusing; I wish they had shown anything different instead.

2019-02-20I dont normally post reviews online, but I had to do it now. I myself, am a healthcare professional and was so impressed with my visit to at Island Eye Surgery Specialists. I had seen both doctors, Dr. Nejat and Dr. Gerstenfeld on 2 different occasions at their 2 different locations and both times I was so pleased with EVERYTHING. The front desk was cordial, attentive, helpful and pleasant. From booking my appointment, being able to get me an appointment with urgency and listening to me on the phone and being able to accomodate me in a professional manner was something that I hadnt experienced in a LONG time in healthcare. Their office is modern, clean, and very organized. Dr. Nejat and Dr. Gerstenfeld are very presentable, attentive and are great doctors. You really feel good walking at the end of your visit. I was so surprised how smooth my visit went and had to tell the manager (Joe Marino) how great this office is run and what amazing staff they have.

2017-07-13Dr.Najat is amazing!!! Back in 2014 I had what I called a golf ball in my eye. After going to 3 different ophthalmologist (all who didnt have the new innovative equipment) i experienced what was one of the most mortified moments of my life. Dr. Najat took his time to educate me on the cause of it and immediately decrease the infection. Hes equipment was up-to-date as well as his knowledge. Its been 5 years and since then I know the extreme importance of eye care. The entire office staff is extremely professional and I would highly recommend this office to everyone. Just moved back to Staten Island and if ever in need I would not hesitate to make an appointment.

Best eye care facility anywhere. Unfortunately I have serious sight issues and the entire staff has gotten me through some very difficult times. Obviously I am deeply grateful and indebted to everyone in Dr. Gs office.

2021-10-20Dr. Najat and his entire team are just amazing. I am a kidney transplant patient and they all take my entire health into consideration. I never feel rushed out. 2021-11-16Because I have severe RLS Syndrome, I needed to find a surgeon who would be able to relax me enough to keep me calm for the 15 minute lens transplant procedure! I found Dr. David Gerstenfeld! What a find! His whole staff and operation are first class all the way! Like a well oiled machine! Everyone of his staff were professional, concerned about my comfort and well being, answering every question I asked and going above and beyond! Dr Gerstenfeld himself talked to me in the OR along with his anesthesiologist assuring me that I would be fine! From my first visit to the surgeries to the recoveries were the best I would recommend this fine group to anyone who needs their services! If it were a 10 star rating I would give it!

2021-07-28Dr. Nejat is an excellent doctor. My Cataract surgery on each eye were done one week apart. I felt very confident with him and the entire experience including follow up care was successful and actually pleasant. For as long as I have been going to him, I feel assured that he really cares about me as a patient.

2021-11-11Dr. Nejat is not only an excellent eye surgeon, he is also a caring doctor. Well spoken, explains what is going on. I have been to many doctors in my life time, he is at the top of my list of great doctors. As of my yearly eye check up on 11/8/21 his office is still the cleanest medical office that I have ever been in.
