Found these guys after my mechanic told me to take my 18 year old car to the dealership to figure out what was wrong. They ended up replacing the engine, and the car has been running great since. They found a used engine that had slightly less mileage than mine and made sure everything that could be replaced was and that the engine was running great before saying the job was complete. When I had a concern about a week later, they were quick to get the car back in and look at it. Great groups of guys work there and I would highly recommend them to anyone. They do great work, for a great price and stand by their work! I’ve found myself new mechanics.
I have never met any repair shop in my life as honest as these guys are! I am pleasantly shocked. I will continue to bring my car there for all its needs, because they are a shop I can depend on to be honest. Most shops/ dealerships will try and get you to do unnecessary repairs for an excessive amount of money. J&J will work with you, and they are honest about the repairs, and the costs. I would recommend everyone to go here!! They do an amazing job!
J&J are the best! On my first visit, they took my Honda Accord out for a test drive then did a through evaluation. Then they escorted me to the garage and walked me around and under the car the show me all their findings, came up with an affordable plan of repair and maintenance. They completed the work exactly at the time they quoted and even called me a few days later to check-in. They are trustworthy, fair and responsive. I really feel like my brothers are looking after my car.
Never have I ever had such a great experience having my car inspected. They squeezed me in at the last second, I was introduced to the owner who gave me a tour of the art that they make in the shop, which they DONATE for auction to ARC and other worthy charities, given a new customer goodie bag, and got out of their in record time! He said they try to be a little different...it worked! Next time I need anything done with my car, it will be with J and J.
These guys are first class. They have worked on our cars twice. Each time we had something we thought was a major problem. However, they really examined the car and found both times it was something small. So they fixed it for a minimal charge. These guys are honest, friendly, extremely helpful. Best of all, they treat people like me who are ignorant of auto repair with great dignity, and that is much appreciated. Jason is great to deal with. I highly recommend them!
These guys are awesome! I feel like a family member whenever I go there! I met them at least 15 years ago when they worked somewhere closer to me, but I would travel far and wide to have them work on my car! My four kids actually still rather bring their car to J & J rather than anyone near where they live, now that they are out of town! Six cars have been wonderfully serviced by them for 15-20 years!Always a pleasure and I never worry about them telling me I need more than what is actually necessary. Who says.... I checked it all out and youre fine for now.... no charge! They do what is necessary and are honest about everything! They will always be my mechanic!Top notch work and pleasant and personable to boot!! Highly recommend them! No second thoughts!!
I wanted to take the time to write a 2nd, follow-up review of J & J Auto. I wrote a review over 2 years ago and gave them 5 stars - my review in 2020 is still 5 stars. If I could go higher than 5 stars, I truly would.I could probably write a full essay on why they are the absolute best Automotive Repair shop in the area, but if youre interested in specific stories, just read through the other reviews, which speak for themselves.I do however, want to point out that I moved about a year ago and tried a different automotive shop that was closer to my new house and had a very bad experience. This other place had decent reviews on Google, and I was only getting an Oil Change and Inspection, so I figured what could go wrong - and yet the customer service experience was absolute garbage compared to that of J & J. Needless to say, I now drive out of my way to J & J for ANYTHING automotive related because I know what to expect and they are very trustworthy.Bottom line is this: John And Jay are honest, hardworking, very knowledgeable and trustworthy business owners. They take the time to explain things to my girlfriend and I whenever we have questions or concerns about our vehicles. They clearly always have the customers best interest in mind and that really cannot be said for many other repair shops in Dutchess County.Thanks J & J for all over your help over the years and I hope to be writing a similar review in another couple of years - even as you guys continue to grow!!Sincerely,Josh
I was amazed at the service and delighted with the cost. They found the problems, explained them to me and showed me what was broken, told me the cost, fixed them and had the car back to me in less than a day. They were recommended by a friend who was also really pleased with the service. These guys are amazing and will be my auto service shop from now forward. Jason and John are down to earth and seem to really love what they do. They provide what you hope to find in customer service and professionalism, but seldom find anywhere.Im a believer.

I recently bought a used car from a private seller. After driving it for a few days I noticed some issues with it. I brought it to their shop and they fixed it right up. No more wheel shake when Im driving, the brakes are great now! Best part is it didnt cost me and arm and a leg to have them to work on it. Finding a reliable and trust worthy mechanic shop can be stressful. Thankfully Jay, John, and their guys are everything you could want. Thank you for the great experience!
These guys are the best! I was driving to my church for a prayer meeting when i caught a flat tire on Rt. 55. I turned right onto Commerce street at around 6:30 pm and to my amazement I saw their garage. I thought, Its 6:30 pm, they cant be open. They were closed for business but they let me bring in my car. The tire was not salvageable so they put on the extra tire that I had in the trunk. These guys did not have to help me but they did. I appreciate the kindness they extended to me and they did not charge me for their service. Jay and John, thank you and God bless you, your families and your employees for your kindness and generosity.
Beyond grateful to the team at J&J for saving the day when my car battery died at the store last night. Jason had a couple of his crew drive over this morning & limp it back to the shop where they could replace the battery. They tended to it right away & I was able to pick it up after lunch! These guys are AMAZING!!!
One week ago today we had issues with our truck. We were 2 hours from home. We went to J & J Automotive Repair LLC. The people there were very helpful and friendly. They took our vehicle in right away. It ended up to be a minor issue but could have been a major issue. It was after 11:00 when we arrived there and they close at noon. Before they knew it was minor issue they told us they would stay as long as it takes to get us back on the road! We would like to give them a big Thank You for their honesty and great service! If we lived closer I would go back to them for service.
I cant say enough how WONDERFUL these guys are. Jay is beyond amazing, helpful, honest and knowledgeable. I have two older classic cars that I LOVE and they make every effort to take care of them and honestly recommend products and services to keep them in beautiful shape. I wont go anywhere else.
J&J will have my business from now on. I bought a 2012 rogue last year that I only had dealer serviced. However I got sick of being treated poorly for top $. I really wish I had just gone to j&j from the beginning because I had a great experience with fast and honest service from professional and friendly people. Not only do John and Jay do great quality work but they are extremely reasonable on price. After my full synthetic oil change, I had to ask Jay to repeat the total as I wasnt sure I heard him correctly. I did and I was beyond satisfied. Im Absolutely thrilled that Ive got a new auto repair shop that does a high quality job and the knowledge that Im supporting a local business who really cares about their clients.

As stated by everyone else here, John and Jason are great. They are a couple of honest, hard-working guys doing business the right way. I have a 1998 Honda Civic with over 300,000 miles on it and, as with any car that age, it has more than one problem. Jason went out of his way to tell me about the things that could wait to be fixed and never tried to sell me on doing any more than was necessary given the cars age.Also, as others have mentioned, their pricing is more than reasonable, and I am a cheapskate so I was very happy about that.Jason and John want to build relationships with their customers that will last and everything they do, from the waiting room amenities, to the time they spend speaking with customers, to the honest feedback about necessary and unnecessary repairs, to the more than fair pricing shows that. As someone who moves around quite a bit and who drives an old, high mileage car, finding an honest, friendly, reliable mechanic is always a concern. I could not be happier that I found J and J.

I was immediately greeted with a warm smile from Jay. The ambiance of the shop provides a feeling of a comfortable, friendly, and open environment. I explained to Jay my issue with my tires and he quickly hopped in the car with me for a test drive.After the test drive, my car was taken into the shop and evaluated. It took less than thirty minutes to determine the main cause of the issue. Jay took me aside and explained ALL of my options. I was not pressured to purchase anything or even continue using their services. I was amazed about how open and honest Jay was, as I’ve never received this type of customer service. Jay even taught me why it happened, how it happened, and how to prevent it moving forward. After evaluating my multiple options, I decided to purchase tires which fixed the issue immediately. My jaw dropped when he told me the prices for the tires. I did not believe the number the first and second time he showed me it. It was a great price. My tires and car have been working flawlessly since I had the work done.Since my visit to J&J, I have brought my mother’s car and brothers car into the shop. They received the same expert and friendly service as I received. I highly recommend this shop to anybody in the area who is looking for the most honest and effective mechanics around. I intend to use J&J’s services for as long as I can, even when I move out of the Poughkeepsie area. Its hard to find honest mechanics these days & Jason was Godsend. My car broke down at a green light in Poughkeepsie and I chose to bring my car to J&J because of their ratings & a local persons recommendation. I was stranded - 2 hours away from home - stressed & at their mercy. This could have been a disaster ... they could have easily taken advantage of my situation (especially since Im not a local & a woman) & charge me an arm & a leg for a laundry list of things - but my experience was amazing.Not only was Jason helpful - he was transparent - honest & sincere. Despite having a hectic schedule, Jason personally went and got the necessary parts needed to repair my car in an effort to get me home before dark (I reached Manhattan by 7:30!). He walked me exactly through each step and patiently answered all my questions (and I had a million of them). He even gave me a much needed pep talk lol!J&Js service was nothing short of how a family member would treat you and I really wish them the best and success for years to come! Not only did I reach home safely without my car breaking down again, Jason asked me to call him to confirm that I reached safely for his own peace of mind.Im not making any of this up & am not getting paid to write this review - its honest and I owe them. Repairs were... on. point. I was shocked, because I’ve tried places other than the dealership for my two BMW - 2007 335i and 2001 325Ci. After a handful of awful experiences at independent shops, I decided this would be my last try — I’m so grateful I choose this shop. Excellent service! While they were fixing the A/C on my old Chrysler (doing some work-arounds to save me from having to buy expensive parts for an old car), I observed a woman come into the shop who obviously had no clue about the issues with her car. Jason took the time to talk with her, explain why it wasnt in her best interest to use new parts, and offered to help find less expensive alternatives, and even talk her out of one repair that was not essential. Honesty in the auto repair industry? This was really refreshing - and I couldnt recommend these guys enough!!

I am a soldier and was traveling for a change of duty station. I had a rear differential oil leak on my truck and brought it to J&J. Jason immediately brought in my truck, assessed the problem and went the extra mile to fix the issue for me instead of just temporizing the leak by adding fluid (what I had asked them initially to do). The service was virtually instantaneous, courteous and very well done (200 more miles down the road and it isnt leaking one drop anymore). In addition the cost was very, very fair. I would highly recommend this shop to everyone.
I visited J&J auto repair to replace break pads and rotors after looking at good on-line review. No wonder why all reviews here gave them five stars. Finally a mechanic who I can trust! Jay was upfront about everything that was wrong with my truck and told us to bring it for him to look and see if it was worth fixing. He replied quickly to our inquiry on Yelp, and He even agreed to junk it for us AND gave us the name of a trustworthy car salesman at Friendly Honda....PapaSo we will be making this our home when we need our car fixed!
Jason and John worked on my vehicle and I thought they were very thorough, what I didnt expect was the parts they put in failed. What happened next is why Im writing. Not only did they replace the parts at there expense, but they also did an oil change for my inconvenience. Being in a small business myself, I asked if I could pay for some of the labor, after all it wasnt their fault the parts failed. But they wouldnt let me. It is refreshing to deal with a company that goes above and beyond to take care of their customers. They didnt blink an eye and took care of it quickly. Finding a great auto repair shop is almost as important as finding a great family doctor. After having found Jason and John at J&J Automotive Repair I have ended my search. Their work is done only after getting an accurate estimate and their prices are SUBSTANTIALLY MORE AFFORDABLE than any of the other auto repair shops in the Poughkeepsie area. Their competitors are charging at least 40% more for hourly labor on average! Ive had four of my familys cars in their shop over the past eight months and Ive been EXTREMELY SATISFIED with all aspects of doing business with them. Heres one more item that may surprise you: NEVER HAVE I BEEN GIVEN FREE ACCESS TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT WILL BE DONE TO REPAIR MY CARS...UNTIL NOW! These gentlemen are the most honest and understanding mechanics Ive known in the past thirty-five years and it would be my fault if I went anywhere else for repairs. Im going to do everything in my power to keep my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition on the road...and Ill continue to take it to them as long as they stay in business.

Because in my personal experience, they Never cut corners, or take short cuts, on normal maintenance and/or service, Jay & Howie have been my go to guys for many, MANY years !But where they REALLY shine - is when those major issues pop up ! - - They have successfully helped me out EVERY time that I had a serious or difficult automotive problem !They have always taken great pains, to properly diagnose, .. Great service and nice guys! We needed a new battery on the spot and as luck was on our side, the battery truck had pulled in right before us and had our exact battery for our Volvo. The guys installed it immediately and we were back on the road.

J&J has been great to me. I recently bought a new-to-me car that needed some work. Being up here in the area for college, and living in an apartment complex, I dont have the tools or the time to do some jobs. I try to DIY most stuff, but quickly realized that I did not have the time or expertise required to replace a starter on my vehicle. J&J replaced the starter for me, and kept me updated throughout the whole process; also informing me of other items that the car may need down the road. They gave me a very fair deal; FAR less than a competing shop was quoting. I will definitely return here if I need any other repairs done!!! Thanks Jay!!

I am a college student and a first time car buyer and dont really know much about cars, these guys have been VERY helpful with helping me and showing me the ropes with my car and always answering my crazy car questions !! I am from North Carolina and I am used to southern hospitality and being in New York you dont always get that but you definitely get that here!!! And they make cool sculptures out of car parts by hand!

2019-09-26They did good work on my notoriously difficult rare vehicle model. Honest group of guys, not the cheapest around but they wont BS you or beat around the bush. Knowledgeable as well; Im really happy with the cheaper and more well rounded tires they recommended to me instead of the extreme tires I THOUGHT I wanted. Was especially pleased with how quickly the turnaround was - in and out in 3 days total.

2021-09-15I left to run some errands yesterday when I noticed my cars thermostat was reading that the engine was going to overheat. After calling around find out what it would cost to diagnose (Arlington Auto charges $130.00 just to diagnose the problem!!!), I called J&J and was told it costs nothing to get that done. I dropped the car off around 12:30-1:00 PM with the anticipation of it not getting worked on until a day or so later per the gentleman that answered my call, but around 4 PM the same day I got a call that the car was all set! It was a $109 repair and now my car is running fine again! Thank you J&J Auto for your fast service, reasonable rates, and how accommodating you are! Ill certainly be bringing my vehicle here again.

2021-05-08As a small business owner the last thing I needed on a Tuesday afternoon was a truck going down. After being towed in they got right to work repairing the blown out spark plug. Jason and his team understand that my trucks make me money and need to be repaired quickly & correctly. I was only without this for one day. If you need fleet service these are the guys you need to use.

2020-11-17I just had the best auto repair experience Ive ever had. I had to have my exhaust looked at and repaired. I called yesterday and Jay told me to bring the car in at some point today. I brought my car in at about 9:00am. We came back home and sat down to watch a show. At 10:47, I got a call. I was a little concerned because in my experience, when I get a call like that, it usually means the job that I thought would cost me a couple of hundred bucks will actually cost me a couple of thousand. That was not the case here. The phone call was Jay telling me that my car was done and the cost was $180. I cant tell you how surprised and excited I was. When we came to pick it up, we talked to Jay and I expressed my gratitude. In the past weve usually done our own auto repair. No longer. Now all of our auto repairs will be completed by J & J. Thank you so much!!

2018-02-18J&J are just right. As a Honda owner, for too long I went to Friendly Honda for service, but discovered I was being overcharged or told to have services performed that I had already had done only months before. I went to to Arlington Tire a couple times and discovered they were outright incompetent *and* overpriced. Finally my wife and I found J&J, and theyve been terrific. Always honest. They never perform unnecessary services. They do quality work at a fair price, and I always leave there feeling good that Ive supported such a nice couple of guys and their burgeoning business.

2018-07-25Im a fairly new customer. Until recently I hadnt owned a car in many years, but in all my many years as an owner, I had never encountered an auto repair business like this. John and Jason are wonderful, straightforward and honest and I will continue to choose to travel whatever distance to their shop, because I already trust them to not only fix what is needed, but they take the time to educate me with what I need to know about my car! Thats pretty special!

2019-05-09I called J&J regarding my exhaust which had fell off my car. It was somewhat of an emergency and Jason took me in after they were closed to help me out. He clearly laid out my options and I decided to replace the exhaust system. Not only did they get the parts in the next day, have the installation done that same day, but they also charged me significantly less than what I was quoted. My car now sounds great again and my wallet is not hating me for it. All in all a terrific experience for something that is all too often a stress inducing experience. Absolutely no b.s. at this place, only great and honest work. Definitely check them out for all your automotive needs.
