jacks. in other cities:
Big fan of Jacks...although I sincerely miss the days when the entire downstairs was 99 cents I still alway manage to find some amazing bargains. Todays score included a good brand of canned anchovies rolled with capers or flat at 2/99 and very good small packages 3 - 3.5 oz of french truffles 2/99 cents too.
Loved Jacks. I got some great bargains on reading glasses, masks & a few other items. Floor staff was very helpful in directing me to where items were located. Check out was a breeze & cashier greeted me and was very friendly & professional. I went back today & again found some great reading glasses for a tenth of the price at regular stores! Thank you Jacks!!
I hadnt been to Jacks in such a long time. I was remembering the variety of goods that they had when I was going there. I went to BOTH locations in the city. A lot of changes have taken place, especially with COVID. The first one by the library looked the same by appearance but the cosmetic section was practically invisible. It was even worse by the one on 6th Ave. Theres no third floor! 💔😡Now, theres just ONE BIG FLOOR!!
Great prices on baked items (bagels, Pep.Farm breads), cookies and some condiments and box preparation items, chips, candy selection is huge, occasionally frozen specialties and bargain prices. BE SURE YOU KNOW THE RETAIL PRICE before you buy thinking its a good deal, it isnt always so about 25% of the time, esp in bath , beauty products and refrigerated items
I hope God bankrupt this company. All they pursue and value is ripping people. I’m shopping at this store almost every day and one day I wanted to change $20, out of 10 registers they said they had no change. Unbelievable. They don’t know how to give to society, they only focus on taking people’s money but not giving society anything. Not even changing a small money for customers even when they are shopping. Since when did we lost humanity and human value. All I see from these people is that they are being deprived of human morality and chose to be valueless which is a big shame.
Always stop by this fun store whenever Im in New York. All kinds of interesting things and decent prices. Their 99 cent greeting cards selection is extensive and you can find hard-to-find holiday cards like to my cousin and his wife. Lines move pretty fast and the cashiers are very nice.
Not everything is .99 cents. It use to be but you can still get GREAT buys. Superb prices on 💄 makeup - houseware 🐕 DOG 🐱 cat food - appliances - luggage 🍬 candy - toiletries - food - beverages. Just go - you wont be disappointed. Bring 2 recyclable bags. Youll definitely need it😀
This store has become smaller since the last time I was here. They used to have a 3rd floor space but its gone this time. Less packed and crowded. Plenty of things to choose from, you wonder how they are able to fill up their inventory & racks. Still plenty of good deals like the last time I was here, which was years ago. Its still worth another visit.
Listen,Im going to tell you a secret,Jacks is one of the best stores in the city. This store is a discount store, but not just any discount store...because they have stuff, youd see in a discount store, and stuff...you normally wouldnt. Whenever,I get a chance, I shop there...they have two levels to work with, this is a large super store. Their location is only two blocks from 34thSt Herald Square,32ndSt and 6th Ave...know what though, check it out for yourself, youll see what I mean.
This is one of my favorite stores to visit. I got a few of the things I went for. I picked up a few additional things, some things to try for the first time. It was ok. The store was prepared for not having crowds on line. Someone there to assist customers to the register. People seem to keep their distance. Store isles were clean, register had a shield between the customer and the cashier. I was a good visit. I didnt see all what I hope to, but was ok with my choices.
Not enough pet supplies. Only one choice for dog collars no variety. No one on second floor to assist customers. Aisle signs could be more visible. They were too small to see. Some areas of store were very disorganized just seemed like things were everywhere. Escalator wasnt working.
Jacks a mystery waiting to be discovered. You will find great deals, surprising closeouts and delicious treats. 😋. Restaurant catered food and desserts are a bonus. The lines are fast and efficient for quick stop. Beware of the mean Floor Manager at this particular location. Thats the only flaw.
About a block from Penn station is a store that had the upper hand on any $0.99 store in the city. For example water bottles were still 2 x $0.99 the latest time I visited. Haggendaz ice cream cup is $1.99. Anywhere else it will be Manhattan prices. Some items are more than $0.99 now. It feels as if inflation has hit the store.
Must be under new ownership...what is up with the name? It used to be Jacks not jacks.I used to love this store when I was a kid (when everything was actually $0.99). Hardly anything $0.99 anymore, items are poor quality, and the store looks drab. The only things worth getting are snacks and drinks. The cashier today tried to overcharge me on my drink, then tried to tell me it was because of tax. I had to loudly remind her of the actual price of my drink which she admitted was correct and she then had to flag down a manager to correct the error (waste of time). I guess with so many different prices on items though, it world be too hard to keep track of everything.
This place is just the best! You can’t come with a shopping list because you never know what you may find. If you like paying pennies on the dollar for everything from larabars to laundry detergent to nonstick pans, stop in here. Their staff is generally friendly and helpful, but can be a little hostile if you enter close to closing time. Even so, I love it here!
Its the best place for bargain it has everything from housewares to clothing cards for every occasion and now if you have a EBT card you can use it to buy food this store is a number one in my book check it out you wont regret it all thumbs up from me for JACKS 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Horrible customer experience. Once I was ready to pay I asked if theres a minimum amount to purchase with a credit card I was told $5 (was said very aggressively like I suppose to know) which isnt stated on the register... Anyways... I gladly &quickly continued to add a couple of things I needed anyways to achieve the amount. As I paid i noticed I didnt received a bag so I asked and I was told you didnt say at any point you need one!!! It costs $0.10(again aggressively and like I supposed to know, at no point I was offered a bag) responded with no problem I can pay, and paid with a dollar bill...In summary - very aggressive unpleasant cashier no customer service oriented.First and last time at this place.**Be Aware of EXTREMELY Short Expiration Dates**
I have been coming here for so long I cant remember. Even through the pandemic they have stayed open. The staff here have always been so nice. They have consolidated the space over the last few years, but go visit them and find things you didnt think you needed plus a bunch of stuff you do need. Their refrigerated food section has some crazy deals, but it has never been sketchy, nothing I have bought was ever spoilt, etc.
I found some great deals for Christmas. From gorgeous mugs with lids, umbrellas, bath sets and sweaters. The sweaters were a great deal at $6.99. Great quality. Check your merchandise before leaving. One of my male automatic umbrellas was busted. It was 5.99 & I dont feel like the hassle of taking it back.
This use to be a great store, not anymore!almost every item in the store cost over $1.They should change their name to $1 to $10store.Some bargains almost everything is now overpriced. Some items higher than the supermarkets!Serley, nasty, unfriendly cashiers! The store should run a class in goodcustomer service for their cashiers!!!!
This store used to be really good with three floors and the second floor used to extend to the back now it hardly has anything and they close the third floor and the back of the second floor they closed it. The store use to have a lot souvenirs. Now they have nothing. Store has gone downhill.
It was a pleasure being in this store again. As a child my mother would take us here to shop. But they took them out of Jersey, well Newark anyway. But when I was in New York an looked up an seen the store I had to go in. The prices are still low,, but I see they also sell food now. So whenever Im in the area of this store I will always come in an look around for one of there great low price deals.
I always walk out with more than I go in for lol. They carry some really good items and good quality also. Seems they have downsized again but its totally understandable in this climate. I always make sure to stop in whenever Im in midtown. It would be nice if they could bring one to Brooklyn. Empire Blvd and Flatbush could use them.
Jacks is a great place to go in NYC for anything you need. They have a little bit of everything. Any tourists who walks in will walk out with bags. I have been going to JACKS for years. There is not one time I can walk in and leave empty handed. Clean store and friendly staff.
I appreciate Jacks for the variety and quality of stock, as well as their prices. I noticed part of the 2nd floor was closed and a while ago the 3rd floor was no longer open. I hope this is not indicative of the future of Jacks remaining open. People from all over need and rely on Jacks. I can always find what Im looking for and more.
You get what you pay for, extreme discounts, tellers are accurate and fair with pricing items. Store can be difficult to navigate - but given prices its to be as expected, its like holiday pricing every day, most items are 50-90% other stores. If you can handle a store like lot for less youll be fine.
Jacks is a one in a million Store, One stop 🛑 shopping center at the lowest prices, very convenient, very spacious, and you can get everything under one roof........ Thank you Jacks for making it Convenient and Affordable to all.......I 🛑 there almost every morning on my way to work.....The cashiers are very quiet and polite.
The location on 32St has changed since my last time over a year ago. They have much more clothing items and food stuff on the main floor than ever. Upstairs the housing goods & small electronic, phone accessories & more food dominate. The hair, skincare & make-up area which was my main attraction, shrunk! And, which should be expected, prices increased by $.50-1.25. Still a good bargain store in midtown.
Jacks dept store is a great place. You can find almost anything you need from homegoods to low cost foods and everything in between. The main floor is mostly food items frozen, fridgerated and boxed, wrapped and canned foods. There are also a few bulk clothes bins of varying types at different times also there are usually seasonally based items on the main floor. The second floor is mostly cookware, there are also some appliances and things for your electronics and phone needs.
They take EBT now. Go here to shop for things you dont need. The clothes are what you can find in bins. I bought several my size designer jeans for three dollars each here. The next time I went they were gone. They had sweat shirts here in the 1980s styles that were selling madly. Just three bucks. I bought on the racks upstairs several my size chiffon blouses in every color and they made me look good. Just five bucks each. They have all sorts of NY emblemed tourist gifts here for way less than the ones on the avenues. They usually have large size mens leather belts for five bucks each. Go here for things like socks and gloves. They have food here that are not too bad but think about buying them if you go home an hour on the train. I go here whenever I am in the area. Go here with a shopping cart and find bargains. The luggage is good and inexpensive. Ive found leather briefcases for ten bucks. They have things like tablet and computer covers very good priced. Anything you find here is comparable to other neighborhoods or just damn cheaper. Go here.
Jacks has some good deals. But be careful. You may still find better deals at Dollar Tree and Target, even Kmart (if its still around).I love Little Debbie Banana Twins, and often visit Jacks to purchase a box or two.The variety is wide from food to household products, including electronics and accessories for your cellphone.Again, carefully shop here. You may find better prices elsewhere. Sometimes you dont care, and shop for convenience.
Good and decent shop. You can buy cheap party stuffs and some condiments. However not all the items are low costs or as it says dollar store. Look for items which are about dollar and see the quantity too. Most of them are of same rate as in other stores. Jack store reduces the price and quantity for few items. It is worth the visit if you are looking for party items n stationery. You get all kinds under one roof.
It is still a great store but theres nothing for a dollar... Im sure its hard to compete with Dollar General and the amazing rent this location must demand...Its a miracle its still here... many of us will remember this great Street used to have Jacks.. odd job training and Webers... and Conway stores with the pink bags... all gone except for Jacks...an era gone but never forgotten...
Jacks is like a magnet, it draws you in because its there. Browsing the store, wed pretty much guarantee that youll find something to buy. On our last visit we came in just to get something to drink which inevitable led to something to eat and then just a few more items including a nice $1.99 shirt! Two issues with this store however. (Is the manager reading this?) First, not all the drinks are priced in the fridge or on the list on the fridge. And secondly and this is a big annoying one.You need to change your like setup. Its like the wild West. In case you havent been in to Jacks, this is the setup. They have many registers open but there is no line so you just go she stand anywhere going to get to a register before someone else.Change this setup to a single line where the next register open calls the next person in line like so many other major retailers have switched to. This avoids the arguments between customers over whos next and make sure that nobody gets stuck behind a slow customer or cashier.Problem solved and watch your reviews go up even higher.
I just discovered this supermarket. Super cheap! Everything or almost everything is just $2.00. They have all groceries that you need with excellent prices. They have Dove shampoo and gel for $3, usually you pay double in CVS or similar markets. I will come back there for sure!
Read the whole thing please *Jacks Team Members*The store is an awesome place to spend your money on and spending time over there is definitely worth it, yeah sometimes the price tags are wrong and some items are found expired but overall the bargain is good, I love shopping there. One other thing that I would like to mention is that the manager lady *a old lady* is not really polite as she should be or a manager should be. She got a bad attitude towards the customers and as well as the employees. You ask her something and she just goes off on anyone she wants, she doesn’t care if it’s a customer or am employee. Some of my friends complained about the same thing too but again jacks is really welcoming place for those who like bargain.
Ive been coming to this place since they opened. I used to double-check the price LOL!! At the time, everything was truly 99cents..That was so many years ago. They started off with one floor then expanded to have a 2nd and 3rd floor, which they later reduced to 2 floors. Times have changed but Jacks popularity has remained. Every manager/supervisor at my different workplaces would come into the city early just to take a trip to Jacks. This place is a fun part of NY. I know that times are tougher now, but, we can still afford to get a few things from Jacks.
This place is huge one cant just walk in with anything specific in mind without curiously browsing about in amazement of the items that can be purchased here. Lots of options for just about anything. So glad this space is still holding up in the heart of NYC while so many have resorted to shutting down. Its pretty spacious but be aware lunch hours and afterwork Friday crowd will make you want to run right out as it is a favorable spot for budget minded new yorkers.
Lots of great values if you shop carefully. Some items, especially certain staple food items may not be good value at all.12/20 Update I downgrade to 3 stars because they make you sign for a credit card purchase which should be touchless, especially given the coronavirus. They did not have hand sanitizer at the checkout, but at least they did at the front door, but you have to ask for it.Also, they do not offer paper bags for $.05 each. They only offer a more permanent bag at (as I remember) $.50 each. This is ridiculous not to offer cheap paper bags.
Jacks shopping was good but when I got home I discovered one item I purchased wasnt in my bag. I called the number on my receipt, no one answered. I left my phone number and Im waiting for a response. I find it hard to believe Jack doesnt have anyone answering there phones. Check your bag before leaving the store.
Good store to find great deals. A friend took me here and I really liked what was in there. I got really good deal on bathroom accessories for my mom and just some very almost hard to find things youll be surprised to find here. Come to Jacks you will be happy you shopped here!
USE CAUTION if shopping here. I was in Jacks and brought three Fiber One boxes to the register. Each of the boxes had a Jacks green price sticker on it of $1.99. The cashier held up a box and asked another employee Are these $1.99 or $2.99? She then looked at me and said they were each $2.99 and did I still want them? I said they were $1.99 and pointed to the sticker. She then said ok. If I hadnt been paying attention, I think I would have been ripped off by this game they play here. Watch the prices here - some items are overpriced and you can get a much better price at walmart.com. See how much you are paying per ounce compared to how much you are paying per ounce elsewhere. You might be paying MORE PER OUNCE of whatever you are buying at Jacks.
I love Jacks!!! This is my go to store for everything. Price wise this store cant be beat on a lot of things especially the food items. You can get everything here, clothes, food, electronics, stuff for cleaning the house, dishes, things for personal hygiene. They have a wonderful selection for everything which I absolutely love. I highly recommend this place def one of my faves!
It is full off crazy stuff and the price is crazy and they dont have much american made good s an the staff is not knowledgeable about anything at all an the merchandise is scattered all over the place and employee s ar to busy taking in stead of assist the coustmers
Jacks may be the best remainders / leftovers / discount store in New York. Prices are outstanding. You find a wide variety of kitchen goods, refrigerated and packaged food, cleaning supplies, greeting cards, clothing, school and office supplies, and even electronics. This is a bargain experience. The downside is slow checkout lines.
The prices are just right. If youre visiting from other parts of the country or world, its the best place to buy souvenirs and other little things you might need during your stay in NYC.My niece makes me go to Jacks, all the way from Florida, just to get her some shower curtains -- theyre great! -- and various expensive spices -- really cheap, but good for baking.
The majority of employees were courteous & polite. However, I was very disappointed when I finally got to the cashier after waiting on the long line. I had a shopping cart full of items & groceries & before I preceded to put them on the counter, I asked if they take EBT & was told by the cashier NO.This is very frustrating in times like this during the pandemic. Since loosing jobs many people have had no choice but to apply for Public Assistance. Your cooperation should consider accepting EBT again.
I bought set of plates & silverwares as part of my collection which are hard to find items due to quality! Furthermore, used to buy here my chocolates made from Europe but no stocked for now! Its Pandemic season but I my brands & products here are in affordable prices knowing its in Manhattan! This branch near Penn Station has more sections of products than the one near New York Times & Port Authority.
Its crowded, 2 floors of miscellaneous stuff, mostly at very good discount prices. I head there for cleaning products, paper party goods, toiletries/cosmetics and the occasional astounding find. Check the sell-by dates if you are shopping for refrigerated or frozen food. Best buy ever: Levenger legal pads for 99 cents each, a few years ago.
They have great deals here, and they literally have everything. You can also get rare finds here like work shirts for 4.99 and fancy imported candy for 1.29. During holidays, is also a good place to get decorations. If you ever need anything, cone here first to get it for less.
Jacks is like a box of chocolates - off brand, waxy, foreign chocolates. You never know what you will find in this souk-like discount/closeout/overstock emporium. Well-known name brands turn up alongside generic goods labeled in Turkish. Frozen foods, canned goods, kitchenware, electronics, tools, cosmetics, and just about anything you can think of are on offer for cheap. One star off for bovine meandering crowds and extremely disorganized queues at checkout. Dont try to shop here unless your time and patience meters are maxed.
Plenty of things are sold cheap here, though there is a good chance that the desired item you seek may not be there. Definitely a lot of good sales going about here and there. If youre not worried about owning the BRAND items, these place may have something to offer to you.
While for a long time it was one of the best kept secrets of midtown, the quality of the alimentary products have suffered and the staff has gotten bloated and full of itself. Beside they have gotten so expensive that one is a better off stopping at any supermarket. They have become inebriated by their success and the rarities one used to find have have become rarer. Still recommend it but be ready to be disappointed or surprised, depending on your luck that day.
Jacks on 34th Street is great for one stop shopping. You can basically find anything you need at an affordable price. The ails provide sufficient space for social distancing but not enough for a wheelchair as long as you follow the visual guides on the ground and listen to the security Guards posted throughout the store. This location does feature an escilator but no elevator. On the second floor youll find home Decor appliances and the like. On the first floor youll find appetizers scholastics and 99 cent flip flops as well as hygiene products. Last week I found chocolate covered pretzels for 99 cents and discovered a very cool alternative to plastic Bags for the Jacks reusable 25 cent bag. Really not a plastic bag I promise.
Jacks 99 cent store has always been a favorite for me in mid town Manhattan...the variety of household items, crockery, cosmetics, food at an unbeatable price is just amazing!...I call it a discount department store....full of surprises from wedding decorations, gourmet food, exotic foreign foods, good quality crockery, household items, clothing, electronics, gadgets, tools, cosmetics...you could decorate a new home on a budget with the help of Jacks 99 cent store !!!
Theyve started jacking up all the prices, and nearly everything above the first floor is either overpriced or extremely shoddily made, but this place is STILL the most reliable stop for overstock-type deals on everything from cereal to juice to chopped meat to pasta to spices to snacks. Always worth a visit if youre in the neighborhood.
Has a variety of items to choose from and the prices are decent however there is major need for improvement with customer service. During my last visit, the cashier allowed lotto players to skip the line and be served before regular shoppers. My encounter with another cashier during a separate visit was rude and snappy because of questioning of a price.
The food was not worth all that..Id rather eat at 5 Guys or McDonalds..Had to send burger back twice because they forgot to put the avocados on it and bacon..They had the nerve to put my bacon and send it to me in a bag for me to put on it..The only reason they got a 2 is because the manager gave me a refund because of the inconvenience
A wonderful place to buy simple items like cookies, grocery, perfumes, cooking pots, decoration items, snacks. It is a huge store where we can find variety of products. I found brown shoe Polish for just a dollar here which I could not find anywhere. So it is a place where everyone has to check out. Hopefully you will find almost anything you are looking for. Go peep into the store and one more good news, its right close to the Penn Station. So easily accessible. I love this place❤
Have a plan or budget because a person just cant walk in here without anything specific in mind, curiously will be your downfall due to the browsing about in amazement of the items that can be purchased here. Lots of options for just about anything. It is a favorable spot for thus budget minded New Yorker.
The motto of this store should be - Characters welcome. If you are willing to brave the few oddballs, there are many deals to be found here. They have a wide array of product including household goods, food [check expiration date], furniture, office supplies and beauty products. Every time I visit this discount haven I always walk out with a bag of goodies. Do be warned, dont expect top grade quality on some of the stuff -- as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
Second time there and also last time. I was waiting to checkout at the counter. People from nowhere cut the line all the time. Even the cashier said, next on the line, then looked at me, asked me to go to her, then one old lady cut the line and put all merchandises in front of that cashier. And that cashier did nothing. I left immediately and went to Target ( I found that Jacks because of the Target store on 34th st). Im glad I left, because the products I wanted at Target were cheaper.

2022-04-16Its not easy to find affordable prices for lots of consumer goods when in Manhattan, and for over a decade now Jacks has made shopping a much better experience for me. It really helps me get the most bang for the buck. This place would be a blessing wherever it was, with their great deals. The fact that it is in NYC makes it an even bigger blessing for hardworking senior citizens like myself, and I am sure many others.

2021-09-04It’s a matter of going to 34th Street and stopping there to see what you can find. They sell just about everything: clothing, household goods and cleaning supplies, food, candy, beverages, make up and so much more. I like to go there to buy chocolates. There’s so much going on. The customer service reps are kind and helpful.

2022-02-14Clean and organized. Prices are certain items like food was a bit high. I have a suggestion that Jacks remove the 99 cent from their sign. It was easy to navigate through the store. I shopped downstairs, but they do have another floor upstairs. I think 2. If you need something you will probably find it at Jacks.

2022-05-19Alot of frozen food to pick from to beauty products and 99 cents greeting cards. They have cheap priced clothing and a bit pricey Backpacks 30 to 60 dollars range. You cant go upstairs the elevator was blocked off.

2021-04-22Jax is a discount store they have and midtown Manhattan its nice but everything they have is like food toiletries very cheap prices also two floors were upstairs has home items anything you need for the house also clothing and I have escalators going up and down I didnt notice any at elevators for people with wheelchairs then when youre downstairs they have freezer compartments for frozen food and they have dry food they have Toys birthday things many different items dog stuff cat food it has a lot of things its a very overwhelming at first but once you go there a couple times then you get used to how theyre set up is they are very long lines inside and they have the plexiglass again when you get up to the cashiers so you dont touch the no touching with the cashier and then the only thing I dont like is how they close the upstairs at a certain time but the employee certain ones are very rude so other than that the place is a good place to go because midtown Manhattan doesnt have any really discount stores that I know of that is as cheap as Jacks

2022-01-10A long time favorite store in midtown. They always have good prices and unique finds. I didnt know the store hours so I went online for that information. Shortly after arriving in the store they announced the store was closing in the next 10 minutes. I was shocked. I told them the information online said something different. However, I dont think the online information will be updated.Call the store for accurate store hours before you go there.

2022-01-06Jacks was unexpectedly nice. The most reasonable prices I have seen on things. You can get Anything from socks & underwear, hair & cleaning prices, bread to microwave -able meals. I will definitely be going back before leaving New York City.
