Tonight we went to Jackson Hall in East Islip. I have a regular group of friends that I go out to dinner with and thats where we chose tonight.Theyre American cuisine and located right on main Street in East Islip.A few of us had the extended restaurant week menu.As the table appetizers we ordered two different types of wings. We ordered a honey Chipotle and a standard buffalo wing. They were both great.Kids have the assortment of boneless wings and cheeseburgers and sliders and all in all they said they were pretty good.I have posted a copy of the restaurant week menu and it was actually pretty good. The restaurant week menu consists of an appetizer a main course and a dessert for $35.The appetizers we had for the restaurant week menu were as follows. We ordered French onion soup, two tomato soups, and I ordered fresh mozzarella and tomato. The fresh mozzarella and tomato was great lightly dressed salad came with it which had a very nice flavor. My wife ordered the French onion soup which its appearance was not awesome as it did not have that thick layer of cheese on top but the flavor was outstanding.I forgot to ask the other two wives if they like the tomato soup but it looked like they did from my end of the table. One of my friends had a burger that he ordered medium Plus which we all laughed at.My other friend had fish and chips and really enjoys it from this place. Both of these meals were not on the restaurant week menu. One of the wives had veal with prosciutto and cheese. It looked and smelled great. The two other wives had chicken francaise and said it was spicy. I had a small bite didnt think it was too bad with heat and had a really great flavor.I had apricot bourbon pork chops on mashed potatoes. The good part of this meal or the pork chops they were tender and juicy and the apricot bourbon glaze had a good strong bourbon flavor. The bad of this meal was the mashed potatoes. To be honest they had little to no flavor and were cold by the time they arrived to the table. I did not complain because after I tasted them I knew I wouldnt like them and wouldnt eat them anyway so it was no big deal. The waitress we had was absolutely amazing and like to joke with our table. I wish I caught her name as she was definitely a reason to return.
We started off being seated and no waiter came by to even take our drink order for 30 mins. We proceeded to wait an additional 20 mins to just get waters, and when they did arrive they brought us 2 glasses of water for a table of 6. We also got coffee and it was the worst coffee I’ve ever tasted, quite literally like mud. A food runner came by our table twice with the food for a different table. When our actual food arrived it arrived with 4/6 made incorrectly and cold. 2 orders of chocolate chip pancakes arrived without chocolate chips and the syrup had a film on it from sitting there for so long. Stuffed French toast came unstuffed. We specifically asked if the chicken in the chicken and waffles had bones in it and were assured that it did not have bones. Well you guessed it folks, it had bones. Our server was totally incompentent. The most helpful person here was the bartender who was just helping to run food because it was busy.
Great restaurant and bar. Giant Sets to watch your favorite sporting event. Full menu and bar. Daily specials on food and drinks. Staff super nice. Food was good, and priced fair. I had a great time with friends as we kicked off opening day of baseball. Located in east islip . I drove from the bronx and it was worth the drive. If you live in long island or close by its worth a stop
I come here every now and then because I live in town and sometimes it just seems like an easy spot to swing by.Every time, I regret it. This place is overpriced and underwhelming. You’d think I would learn, but I guess I’m dumb.Takeout is especially heinous. My wife just found hair and a piece of plastic in her burger. This is the reason which sent me over the edge towards finally writing this review.Never again.
Excellent food and service. Gave this place a rest for a while due to poor service and food. We are locals and really want to like it. we were pleasantly surprised when we came back. The food and service has improved. Prices are very reasonable and the place has Ample sitting and parking. Very diverse menu which we like because it allows us to come back more frequently. The manager came over to check on us and spend time with us to introduce himself. It was a really nice personable touch. Will be back more often now !!!
Went here in the afternoon after any lunch rush and asked to sit outdoors. People were leaving or had already gotten their food. Definitely not crowded. After the initial conversation which I initiated, we were completely ignored. Staff member at one point came out the door looked right past us and went back inside. No one said “ we’ll be with you shortly” or asked us if we wanted drinks. Left after more than 10 minutes without acknowledgement. I realize staffing may be low and we might have to wait a little longer for food, but a welcoming staff goes a long way. We ate there once before and the food was good, but won’t be returning.
Stopped at this cute place from a day at the Arboritum. The service and atmosphere was terrific. I ordered a Fresco Salad and my friend has a 1/2 ribs. We drank Cucumber Mint Collins that tasted great and was very refreshing. The Grille has an Open door atmosphere so you can see inside or out pretty clearly with nice tables outside. We are definately going there again in the near future. I should of taken a picture of my salad. It was presented beautifully.
Very disappointed. The service was poor, waiter didnt get drink order correct. Small gnats flying around table all night one landing in my drink. The food was fine not great but ok pub food but the plates were literally dropped onto the table by busboy. I mean the plate clattered. 2nd round of drinks took forever to arrive and a extra drink was wrongly added to the bill. On top they added a surcharge for credit cards. Gotta say never going back and will not recommend.
Where do I start 👎👎👎!Last weekend we had a 6pm reservation for 12 ppl for my mother-in-laws birthday…which included 5 kids under 10 yrs old. They were not crazy busy at all, especially inside where we were seated.Appetizers came after 1 hr & 15 min wait…kids are getting very restless before that. I will say the mozzarella sticks were very good. Then our meals, which were ordered at the same time as the apps, came at least 30 min after that…kids were crazy by then. One of the meals was incorrect and not how we ordered due to a food allergy for one of the adults. They had to cook a new meal for this and that took forever. We were already seated when a party of 6 was seated after us and ended up leaving way before we did. Another table of 4 arrived after us and they got their dinners way before us.Finally…after asking a few times asking for the Manager…he stops at the table (Eric). Tells me this song and dance that they are short-staffed that night and they had a party of 20 to take care of. Which means our reservation party of 12 meant nothing to him. After asking “what can you do for us with the bill”, he offered to buy a round of drinks…after 2 hours and still not having the meal they screwed up at the table that was not going to work.I have managed plenty of people…I understand staff calling in sick…I understand the food/beverage world as I have worked in those positions…but to not take responsibility and “own” a mistake by your team is unacceptable.Earn your manager/management role…lead by example and remember the buck stops with you! Plain and simple. We ended up paying for the meals and no drinks. Good but to be honest not enough for the overall experience and waste of valuable time with my family…the kids…and their grandmother.
I have been here couple of times for dining . Last few times i had terrible experience. First of all they are understaffed. They sit as many people as possible ignoring covid rules , when it comes to service they fail badly. Had to wait 20 min before giving order nobody even greeted us. The server who took our order had an attitude. She didn’t even look our faces. (Older lady) The food came very delayed it wasn’t even warm. Server never show up to ask how is the food. Our drinks didn’t come until after we finish our meal (had to ask 3 times) .when she bring them we were already finished our dinner. In my last visit they included tip in the bill which isn’t usually because it wasn’t included before. When i asked they said this is new policy (which is not he simply lied to get more tip). Poor management and poor service. They are keep losing customers. I won’t go there again neither my family.
I’ve been this place a few times. I was told by waiter we’re not good tipper which are not and tried to charge in receipt without telling us. I never saw this happened to anyone. This is discrimination! How you tip your waiter. If you like his/her service or check their performance. In that place waiters have horrible behaviors you’re asking for your knife and fork to someone to get it. When you ordered your drink, you’ve been waiting it for 15 mins min. Especially a elderly woman has the worst attitude! So I’ve started to tell my around this place is not definitely worth for it!
Love the food and music. Great place to relax.Updated 12/11/2021Over the past few visits we noticed the food quality dropped off. Change of bar staff, and an overall change in service and feel. Last night we ordered two glasses of wine at the bar. Bartender served it in rocks glasses. When I questioned it, he said he has no wine glasses (restaurant side was near empty). He then gave a look and said “you don’t want it?” The pour was far less than normal but we had our wine. Not one time did he ask if we wanted another glass, nor did the other two behind the bar. We asked for menus and he appeared to be put out. We decided at that point to go eat at the diner. I learned that there is a new General Manager. This could be the reason for the drop off, or maybe he will realize the decline and care enough to make it better. This was always a 5 star review, and only gets 2 stars because of the waiter Mike who is always a good guy and great service.
Good place to go for indoor / outdoor dining. Good kids menu, bang ban shrimp appetizer is very good. The wait is a bit long but only to be expected. The staff is always super nice and accommodating. Everyone is working really hard serving and cleaning all with a smile. This restaurant is a go to for us on the rare occasion when we want to venture out and forget about the pandemic for just a minute.
Just tried to have lunch there with my fiancé and daughter. The hostess and busboy pretty much talked us out of eating there. The busboy walked by and said he are going to be noisy, and the hostess said, I don’t think you want to eat in here, you should go outside, where it’s 90 degrees. Only two tables taken inside.. so we left, hungry. Never coming back
Very nice looking place. Lots of seating inside and outside, at bar , booths and tables. Service was very good. Menu was great as was their specials (especially taco tuesday). Food was very authentic. Beer selection was good enough. Parking was plentiful. I like this place a lot. Try it.
Last two times I ordered I was satisfied and I don’t like giving bad reviews . But $ 50 for a salad and sandwich and two hours to get it? Absolutely ridiculous. I would not order again from them. It’s a shame. Expensive and over two hours is wrong and they lost a hell of a customer for sure . And food cold , that’s wrong , sorry I had to . And not like they will accommodate you in any way. They don’t care .
The server that waited on us this evening was at best terrible. He took our drink order and after he served the drinks it was 20 minutes before he came back. Not once did he circle back to check on how we were or if we needed anything. The food was not as good as the last time we were there. When the check came the prices on the check were higher that what was posted on the menus.Overall it was not a very good dining experience. We will not be going back anytime soon.
I have frequented this establishment a few times and I have been satisfied however this particular order was disappointing. The menu indicated “BABY BACK ribs I was excited however when I arrived home I discovered that these were not BABY BACK ribs. They were more like St. Louis Ribs.BABY BACK ribs are small and tender.and the bbq sauce makes the ribs succulent. These ribs were huge and it looked like sauce was thrown on top.YUK 3 times. Not right false advertising.
My friend took me here for my birthday at my suggestion. It was the first time for both of us. Keep in mind, this is during the COVID pandemic; I know businesses are suffering. The atmosphere was inviting. The staff seemed nice. We ordered from the lunch menu which offered an appetizer and and entre for $14.95. It was a nice amount of food for lunch and the price. They let us take our time eating, but maybe didnt realize we were going to take as long as we did while eating our appetizers. We had ordered Quesadillas (which were delicious) and chicken tenders which were more like chicken toughers. When we were finished, our lunch came out. It was good timing, as we didnt feel rushed, but the entres were cold, and again, the chicken was tough. My friend complained that it (the chicken) was dry and tasteless. Lastly, it was very cold inside. I wanted to put my coat on, but knew we were going for a walk afterwards, so I didnt want to get too comfortable. I had heard good things about this restaurant, but I was not impressed.
Disappointing. Long waits for your food even tho the place wasnt full. The coconut crusted mahi and risotto was completely flavorless. The risotto was swimming in some sort of sauce. I never send food back but I had to. This was inedible. My friend had the roasted chicken and the green beans were mush. Way overcooked. I got the sesame seared tuna with sticky rice instead. The tuna was fatty and I had to use a knife to cut it. One would think that a wasabi aioli sauce would be spicy, right? Nope also flavorless and the sticky rice was nothing more than sticky mush. Ive gone here many times but not recently. Must have a new chef because it just was not good. I wont be going back. Not worth it.
I would give a review on the food but I can’t because no one ever came to us after 30 minutes we didn’t even get water and I was dying from hiccups. I wish I could give this place 0 stars, very disappointed I really wanted to check this place out but this was not a good first impression.
This was my second time visiting this fine restaurant, Jackson Hall American Bar & Grille in East Islip, New York with my Mom, and my Sisters first time dining experience here with us. All of our food choices were phenomenal with a mix of 2 different seafood dishes of Mahi-Mahi with Asparagus, then Beer Battered Cod, Shrimp, Sweet Potato Fries and Cole Slaw, and a meat choice of a Delicious Rack of Ribs, Cole Slaw and Sweet Potato Fries. Hot Coffee and Hot Tea beverages rounded out our meals along with amazing dessert choices of Cheesecake Trio, Vanilla Hot Fudge Sundae and Ice Box Cake. Looking forward to many more visits to this awesome dining establishment that is very popular with the crowds here on the south shore of Long Island. We also would like to give a shout out to our wonderful waitress MacKenzie and thank her for the awesome service and pleasant personality.
Very nice interior and atmosphere, although it does get uncomfortably loud. I guess thats the drawback of being a popular place. I feel like there might be something to the acoustics of this place because while I normally dont mind a loud, bustling evening out, I get real tired of it real quick when Im here. The menu is diverse and has some interesting items. The service is a little lacking. They have a good size bar. Ive been here a few times with a group of friends and weve always had a pretty good time. Be warned, their happy hour free buffet is just a lukewarm tray of sausage and peppers. The sauce tastes like its mostly ketchup, which is highly unappealing. I usually order something off the menu, and so far that hasnt disappointed. Their nachos are great, as are their burgers. Just a heads up: the butter they serve with the bread they bring to the table is actually honey butter. Its fairly sweet and quite a surprise Id youre not expecting it! Of course they have regular butter available if you ask, if the honey butter isnt to taste.
Great bar, great service but food, not so much. The spinach artichoke dip is disgusting! Not creamy at all and the spinach is way undercooked. I ordered the skirt steak medium rare and stressed the rare. It came out well done and the mashed potatoes were reheated way to long. Since this is not my first time here, it certainly will be the last. Better food at the local diner.
Im giving 4 stars because the food and prices are an excellent value, however the service has been consistently disappointing. We just moved to the area and discovered the place. We went for lunch during the week, the place was empty but our waitress was forever absent. I ordered a salad and it was prepared just as I asked for it, perfect except it took 5 or ten minutes after getting my salad to get my server to bring the dressing. My husband loved his quesadilla and the app we shared was delicious. We came back the following night for dinner with our kids. Again everyone loved their meal but our server forgot to bring our wine and our meal was half over before we saw him again to request it and he brought the appetizer with the dinners. Went for brunch the next day - same thing with the service. We waited a long time to be greeted and have our order taken and then certain requests (water, tea, dressing with the salad) had to be reiterated when were were finally able to track down our server. I dont typically write reviews but with a kitchen that is so phenomenal, it deserves a more attentive and on the ball waitstaff. Im judging this on three different visits in one week at different times and with different levels of business and three different servers. I was a server for many years so I am more forgiving than most when it comes to glitches in service but since the glitches appear to be more the rule than the exception, I hope that the owner will consider this review and assess if maybe they are understaffed or could use some additional training. We will definitely try again because we really enjoyed the food but Im not sure if it will become one of our regular places without the service improving.
Service good despite their appearing short staffed. Thank you Michael. Good was good. Rolls somewhat hard but honey butter very good. We were a table of five women, requested separate checks but apparently policy has changed so they could not accommodate us. It really makes a great deal of work for a group of elderly women with average checks of $35. We are of varying financial means, some order very carefully, some order drinks and dessert. Separate checks would be a nice service. With the computer systems, there must be a way to easily accommodate what I would think is not a frequent request. Unfortunately we will not return for this reason.
Ordered take out on Friday at 6pm, order was only delivered at 8pm. I got the Black Jack burger and a side of fries. Both arrived ice cold. Cheese wasn’t melted on the burger and fries were cold and soggy. Half way through the burger I spit out my food because the seasoning they used was incredibly salty. Tossed the rest of my meal and safe to say I will never be ordering from here again.
Extremely crowded and uncomfortable on a Friday after work until parents remembered there were spouses and kids at home. I prefer quieter times here when there is no zoo atmosphere and you dont need to stand for two hours. Oh yes, getting something from the bar is accomplished by coating ones self in Vaseline and running towards it at full speed. Very effective. Very uncomfortable if you ever burnt both feet in the military.I will have my food and drink at home. One other thing: I asked about their special, which is a burger and a beer, but also inquired about another beverage and if it was available. The bar lady brought me both because it was too noisy to hear each other when the special was all I wanted. It was not worth the effort to throw a rope around her, pull her away from other customers, then explain her error. I drank both and gave a generous tip anyway.Let me repeat: if you dont like smelling armpits as well as pleasant perfumed ladies, then come after 7pm on TGIF.

2022-02-23I was here for a Bridal Shower. The service was surprisingly great and I only say that because of the current staffing situation. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food too (same reason). Our party morphed into the bar area and the great service extended into that area too. Ill recommend this restaurant for your party, your lunch, your dinner or just your bar visit!

2021-12-16I feel like it had down wholesome food I actually ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes it was a good serving I could barely finish it I like the brown sauce the meatloaf is juicy. I thought it was a low pricey but then I saw the size of the dish so they canceled each other out.

2022-06-13I went to a baby shower this past Saturday, there were about 16 of us. This is possibly the most important part of my review... the staff is SENATIONAL! Gabriel at the bar / the waiter (yes, he did both) was so attentive! There was nothing they ALL would not do for us. I had an enormous salad, it was lovely. I asked twice to make sure the dressing was on the side, and it wasnt, but thats OK... if thats the worst thing that happened, Ill take it!This was my first time at the restaurant and would definitely go there again.

2022-03-22Wonderful place! We went last night (2/25/22) to meet my son and daughter-in-law. Lobster Bisque fantastic! when I asked our server if there were onions in it, the chef/manager came to assure me there wasnt.!everyone loved their meal. I saw another review saying music too loud, I agree. worth giving this place a shot!

2022-03-07Update: Our check was 80.27 that night, I checked my balance 2 days later and 100.27 was charged (left a cash tip). After 2 weeks plus of waiting I still have not received any update on where my money is. At this point, I am assuming the waitress stole it from me expecting I wouldnt notice. The head chef offered me 20 cash if I came in person, but now after not getting an update I will also be assuming this was money to shut me up and not continue to ask who took my money. I work in a restaurant, pulling up a receipt using the last 4 digits of a debit card is not a difficult task, so when the head chef called 2 weeks ago and didnt have it pulled up I can knly assume they know where the money went but didnt want to tell me.This place was highly regarded by my girlfriends friend; so we tried it out, I was sorely disappointed. We waited at least 10-15 minutes before anyone brought us water. I understand if it was busy but 2 glasses of water should not be that long of a wait. My gf wanted to try the BANG BANG shrimp and it came to us lukewarm and had to be sent back. The Bavarian pretzel was pretty good I will admit. When it did come back it was obviously just microwaved and handed back to us. The tempura was chewy and undercooked and the sauce on top was so hot it had to be microwaved . I had the skirt steak and it was pretty good to be fair. The waitress was nice but we saw her a total of 4 times. Wait times were a bit rough, 15 minutes to even order drinks, half an hour for apps and another half for entrees. Not a great first impression.

2022-04-30The food was terrible. The steak was unable to be cut on the cobb salad. Even the chef wasnt able to cut the steak because it came almost in a chunk not slices. Buffalo chicken tacos absolutely terrible. Swimming in Buffalo sauce. And when complained to the manager all he tried to do is make excuses he was very rude. Do not recommend eating at this restaurant

2022-03-21The food was good but the service was terrible on the restaurant side.We had a large group, had to ask 3 times for a pitcher of water. The appetizers did not come out, the waiter said he screwed up and wanted to bring out appetizers after dinner. Much better service on the bar side.

2022-05-08Listen I’m very upset over Mother’s Day by you. Shame Shame on you all for charging 40 a head for brunch or should I say breakfast. When we called nobody told us about buffet. We’ve been going there for years for Mother’s Day I don’t even have words Who spends that kind of money for breakfast. 400.00 dollars for six people then you put in gratuity for what we had no waitress. I will never recommend your place to anyone I just can’t Shame Shame taking advantage of people. Don’t use your Covid excuse. We’re hurting to Fk.

2022-05-28Used to love dining here. The staff were great, but there must have been changes in management or staffing because this place is ruined beyond return. The service is slow and burdensome and I have seen management arguing in front of customers. If you want to save a few miserable hours of your life, go somewhere else. Waste of money.
