Just had a delicious dinner here. We ordered the Jade Island chicken, beef and scallops, fried dumplings, wanton soup, and pan fried seafood noodles. Everything was good except for the pan fried noodles. The noodles were too salty. The service is just ok. It was a little difficult to get the attention of the servers. We will definitely come back.
This old school Chinese restaurant in a Staten Island strip mall is a classic. Even the late Anthony Bourdain has been here and approved. The food is classic American Chinese food.Ive yet to try the drinks which are famous as Ive always gone for lunch and drive there. The decor is original. It is really a time capsule and reminds me of a Chinese restaurant I went to as a child. If you have not been and happen to be in the area you should check it out.
First time ordering here, ordered eggrolls- NO SAYING IT WAS MADE WITH SHRIMP! thank god my 10yr old took the first bite and told me because im highly allergic to shellfish— when i called the restaurant to ask why its not specified i was told THEY CANT WRITE DESCRIPTIONS FOR EVERYTHING AND I SHOULDVE KNOWN! please be aware they don’t specify and they dont care either way!
This place is loud and chaotic, waiters hardly seem to understand what you are asking (had to state my order at least three times and still got white rice instead of brown). Food is so-so, drinks are limited, no idea what’s in the “cocktails” listed. Everything is a “secret recipe.” Overall iffy experience.
Great traditional, old school Chinese🉐🈴🈵 restuarant! Went for lunch. They start you off with traditional crunchy chinese noodles with dipping sweet sauce / spicy mustard. Then a hot delicous pot of tea.Had $7.00 🍸martinis, they werent huge, but excellent! Food was fantastic and decor / lighting felt like a tiki bar🈶🈯.
Stay away from this place. Probably the worst chinese food i have ever eaten. The pork fried rice was mushy and the pork old. The General Tso chicken was fatty and pretty much tasteless. The egg foo yong was dry and disgusting. Its like they served me old food. The restaurant didnt have a great smell either. That shouldve been my first clue. I have no idea how they have an A rating.
Unfortunately I had food poisoning from my purchase on 7/13/21.I called to have a conversation about the incident so that way it would be properly addressed and no further incidents ,but my call was never returned. They ignored a conversation with a customer which shows lack of concern for me and everyone else. Sadly this incident was so bad I have no more appetite for this food.
Wow, first time I ate here and was truly impressed. From the welcoming front staff to the wait staff made my dining experience a truly remarkable one. On top of that, the food was delicious and really nice size portions. Will definitely be back here in the near future.
It has lost it’s spark. I have been here when I was dating my husband, and it was good. But today 3/4/21 we just picked up dinner on the go and it was by far the most disgusting food we ever had. The egg rolls were NOT fresh, tasted as if they were refried various times. The fried chicken wings were not fried and instead in a garlic sauce and the dumplings were bland and cold!!When we called to complain the man on the other end said to bring the food back! As if, I was around the corner! Never again, they have lost a customer. I do not recommend!
My favorite chinese food on the island. The host was very nice but our waiter seemed to have little patience for our table. He was short and seemed to be annoyed at anything we asked for. My sister in law is allergic to shrimp so when we ordered the family meal they bring out egg rolls with the order, family style. When we asked for a shrimp free roll they waiter picked up our serving tongs and took one egg roll off of our table and brought it back into the kitchen.. we were shocked. Why wouldnt they just charge us for a different roll and leave all the egg rolls where they were? Did they serve that egg roll from our table to a different family? We didnt touch it but how do they know that??? The food is delicious and is fresh. They have my favorite fried rice and their sesame chicken is great. The atmosphere is fun and light and it makes for a great night. Highly recommended
This place is adorable! Kitschy little tiki-inspired spot in the boroughs. Staff was silly and played with me when I had some questions. My lo-mein was on point and the complimentary tea is delicious! Point off for the bland wonton soup and I just wish the lunch menu had a bit more variety.
Jade Island is one of my favorite places, why else would I travel to Staten Island from Brooklyn to get it. However, my last order in August 2020 was not as superior as always. It was quite good, but I would think twice about making a trip in to get it. I have been coming to Jade Island a good 30 years, if not more, and it always has been consistent, but somethings just not right, either they changed the staff or cutting back on quality, I don’t know. I do hope the owners take note of my review, because I want them to get back to their best. I don’t want to start naming all the things I’ve noticed, because there are many. As I said, Jade Island has always been a favorite of mine, and I do hope my next visit, sometime in the fall perhaps will not disappoint.
3/18/21 Horrible, my son and I just ordered wonton soup and spareribs.. I bit into a wonton noodle and i had to spit it out thats how bad it was. the texture was kinda like chewie raw, disgusting. and my son didnt like the spareribs. I hate wasting money on food. if I had a car I would have brought it back.
This restaurant is always a must when in Staten Island, because they never disappointwith my order of Lobster Cantonese with BlackBeans sauce. Their spare ribs are absolutely delicious. I had to end my meal with the cherry pistachio ice cream, which was the creamiest.Recommend highly.
My family and I usually here once in awhile... Love the food here, very tasty and delicious. Very nice place, clean, cozy Polynesian style booths, quick and friendly service... Very different taste from your regular Chinese food.... Saw this place on one of Anthony Bourdain 😢episodes and decided to give it a try and we keep.going back.
I absolutely LOVE jade island. Been coming here over 30 years. However my last visit was disappointing. The food was lukewarm and the egg roll burned and hard as a rock. BUT Everybody has an off day. And I figure over 30 years of perfection it is bound to happen once in a while. I will definitely be going back.

This is our favorite restaurant. Tasty dishes served efficiently fast. Wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and can make recommendations based on your preferences. Mgmt is terrific & accommodating. Thanks Tina for always making my daughter feel welcome and special. Weve never had a bad experience, even on a busy Saturday night. The drinks from the bar are also refreshingly boozey!
Worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. They rushed us. They were rude to us. We were a table of 6 that got entrees and drinks with a large bill and they were rude to us the entire time. Food was mediocre. Over priced food. We were rushed and they were extremely rude. Terrible hospitality. Never returning and recommend you do not go to this place.
Went with famh of 4. Looked like s bit of organized chaos going on. Felt a bit rushed ordering food but everything came out perfect. We never did get our sodas but had constant flow of water without asking. Everything came so fast and then cleaned off just as fast but took 20 minutes to get the check. Definitely give the place a try. Great fried rice and grand mariner shrimp with honey walnuts.
More American / Polynesian than Chinese. Family platter is a good deal. They put up with our loud child and were very accommodating. You will be comfortable here! Food is average to above average maybe a bit expensive compared to normal Chinese food but youre paying for the environment if you go here. Tiki themed and staff all wear Hawaiian shirts
Didn’t get food only sat at the bar for drinks. Our bartender was really really nice and attentive. Offered us the fried crispy noodles to snack on with our drinks complimentary which was really nice. Both mine and my girlfriends drinks were super sweet, yet still boozy, and had fun garnishes. Everything was so cheap too! $9 for a crazy tiki drink is awesome. Loved the tiki decor and can’t wait to come back for a meal as well!

Got my food late. I understand with the quarantine things can be late. But once my food came I had a whole order of lo mein missing, my crab re gun was burnt and they made one of the dumplings fried instead of steamed when it said steam.(online order). Never ordering again thanks for stealing my money
Pushy waiters. The food is nothing special at all. The staff shows no desire to accommodate you. The place was practically empty when I went, and I felt pressure from the waiters to leave, so they could bus the table. Never going back. There are so many other more enjoyable places with GOOD food.
Chinese food with a bit of tropical flair. A lot of the dishes are pretty typical Americanized Chinese food. If youre looking for something a little more different, try the egg Foo young which I havent seen like this anywhere else. It should be noted they tend to serve the dishes here by giving one to each individual as opposed to shared in the middle of the table like more traditional Chinese restaurants.
Absolutely horrible. Every server is rude and doesn’t want to be bothered. When I go out to eat I want to enjoy myself, not only did I feel rushed I felt like I was a bother to them by asking for a simple glass of water. Never going back to this establishment. Horrible experience, don’t waste your money here. Food wasn’t even good.
Been coming here for years and oh my what a fall from Grace. Their AC isnt working all the servers we came in contact with had terrible attitudes and worst of all the food tasted stale the oil tasted old. They even told us they ran out of soup an ice as they continously brought out ice an soup to every other table. I dont think Ill ever come here again and that kills me to say that.
One of the best places ever. Traditional chinese-american food; one of the first ones in Staten Island. I have been going here since they opened in 1970 when I was 6 years old. Still the same furniture and decor, which turns off some people, but for me it just good nostalgia. When I was younger I came just for the bar, with the Zombies and Headhunter drinks, they hit you right in the head and make you smile!
While the wait time at Jade Island can be quite a deterrent, I really enjoyed my meal, especially the wonton soup and pork fried rice. The decor is cheesy but fun and they even serve fun cocktails.Service can be a little slow but if you look around, you understand why: its packed to the gills but they have a small number of servers. They definitely try their best but service is a little lacking, which is unfortunate.
Please make efforts to meet the signs of times.. People dont order chicken with broccoli, lo mein and pupu platter anymore.China has such fantastic food from different provinces.. Thanks to Internet and our Urban cities we now know the remarkable dish such as Hot Pot has been a best kept secret.. Let us taste the real Chinese food. Just a suggestion.. Cantonese, Shezuan. Schiuan, Hunan, Xian are just to name a few...
As a titiphile and lover of all things Midcentury, I made the long trek into the heart of Staten Island (previous I had never been past the ferry terminal) to eat here. Two subways, the Staten Island ferry, the Staten Island railroad and a bus....I think! The trek took about 1.5 hours. It didnt disappoint. I loved the midcentury tiki cocktails and the Polynesian fare. I had volcano steak that was set on fire surrounded by pineapples and other trappings. Drinks and food were very good. This is the only tiki place in all of New York now...the rest are long gone. The legendary Hawaii Kai closed in the late 1980s and all that is left of it is a cookbook, post cards and a mug or two will show up on ebay. Im glad the owners of Jade island keep the tiki theme as its a rapidly disappearing part of Americana.
My family and I went to jade island for new years eve dinner it was great food is always great waiters were very good they dont rush you they take the time to make your stay great they were busy but help you with getting what you wanted. My family and I always go on new years eve but now we will go when ever we can .I highly recommend Jade Island thats why I gave 5stars you wont be disappointed
Food is great every time I go, which is alot to be honest, they give hot tea, noodles and duck sauce and mustard all free of charge. The only real Chinese restaurant worth the money on the island, by the way if your concerned with the prices just do what i do and get one from a one from b, its cheaper and they give u so much food u will have enough for 2 days
Fantastic place in Staten Island for Asian food. They are very clean and friendly place. Im going to this restaurant since 1998, very clean food. No frill, no msg, no preservatives added to the food. Sing, John and Reymond are the friendliest people . You will never get dissapointed by the service. Please tell, Siva from #emeraldgemexchange send you.
We stopped here at 9pm to meet up with an old friend before heading home. We werent initially going to order any food but decided to get the Fuji Duck and a cup of Wonton Soup to share. The wontons really were just all skin and no meat, and the duck just seemed old and dry. That said, the brown sauce that was served with the duck and all the vegetables in it were really good... so go figure?Would I stop by here again? Yes, but I wouldnt be driving out of my way for it.
We had a very good experience at the Jade Island was my daughters birthday and they took care of us they made my daughter feel very very good and her friends we had boneless ribs sesame chicken with noodles wait is over there are very helpful I recommend Jane Addams for a good lunch and a good dinner
Delivery experience was horrible. I normally leave a good tip for delivery drivers but this one was horrible. He came way too late and when I handed him the cash he started to leave without giving me my change back (Total was $23.56 and I gave him 2 twenty dollar bills) I had to ask him for change and then he was like “How much change do you need?” Please let drivers know that tip is optional. They shouldn’t be demanding tip!

2022-04-13Massive portions, but its quantity over quality. The sweet and sour chicken wasnt very good, but the fried rice and generals chicken were. Depends on what you get whether or not its worth it. Cool presentation on the platter though!

2021-10-11Delicious drinks in a fabulously retro setting with a huge menu of options. Between two people, we got the Jade Island Special, the Pina Colada, the Headhunter and the Scorpion. If you get a separate glass and combine equal parts of the Scorpion with the Headhunter, youve got a winning combo. The food was good; there were no problems with the vegetable dumplings, the shrimp toast, the rumaki or the house chips. Our server was very efficient and checked in on us regularly.

2022-05-15I used to come here as a child and the decor and atmosphere have not changed at all! Neither have some of the staff LOL. My daughter who is now going to be 30 still calls the tiki Oliver! It brings back great memories of abundant family style food that is hot and delicious! Will be a lifetime patron of this gem of a restaurant! Never change!

2021-06-16This time we got the Jade Island family package for four, and it comes with four choices from two columns of selections; as well as rice, soup, egg rolls, and dessert for each person. Its so much food, and we had many leftovers to bring home. The food is also top quality, much better than what you get at a greasy fast Chinese restaurant.

2022-05-02The staff was very pleasant but the prices are a little much for the quality of food. Definitely not worth what you pay.

2020-01-04This was basically a long overdue pilgrimage for my family as Anthony Bourdain devotees. The food was sublime! Generous portions and immaculate presentation. The standout here was the staff. Everyone we encountered was SO friendly. We actually considered hugging our waiter before we left...

2019-07-28Oh fun! The place is marvelously kitchie...tiki bar meets old style chinese restaurant. I loved it. None of us had tiki cocktails but they looked fabulous. Its been quite some time since I was offered fried noodles to dip in sweet and sour sauce or chinese mustard...and I do honestly love that mustard. Hubbs prefers the sweet one so no arguing ensues. I had wonton soup...think back to the first times you had it...thats how it was...yum. They shared really good hot and sour soup which they liked from the first bite but more and more as it got hotter at the bottom. Ok the food...three of us at dinner and we had Generals Chicken...deep sweet and hot sauce, chicken done well, and steamed broccoli,. Overall very nice. Garlic Scallops...a dark and tangy sauce, onion carrot and green peppers and lots of good sized scallops...a success but Im told maybe too many green peppers for someone not a fan. Finally Fuji Duck...I loved it! Sauce full of onion and bean sprouts and the small bits of duck over crispy skin and breast of the duck. The service was quick and friendly..no complaints there. Not a cheap meal but not expensive either. Taken together a great meal with lots to enjoy tomorrow.

2018-04-20A great place to drink, eat and relax. Food are tasty. Chicken wings and BBQ ribs with special in-house made sauces are must-eat. They also offer great cocktail options, which are flavourful and well-balanced in taste. No need to mention the homey atmosphere and attentive services. Nancy is the sweetest!
