The 1st time I came to the salon, I went to get a silk press, wash and trim. I had a 9:30 appointment and I didnt walk out until 1:30 p.m.The 2nd time the I went there, I went to get a ponytail. It took the stylist 3 hours to wash my hair, flat iron it, and give me a ponytail. The third time I went there, I went to get a bun. I had a 10:15 appointment that I was early for an I didnt end up walking out until almost 3:00 p.m. A week later I took down the bun only to realize that my hair had significant heat damage. The staff is very friendly and very apologetic, which they have to be because they know that theyre overbooked and clients have to wait a very long time to be serviced. Besides the wait time, I didnt really have problem with the salon until my hair could not revert back to its curly texture because of this heat damage.
Had a great experience even though my appt book didnt start until an hr later ; nonetheless, my stylist was busy perfecting his clients and my time ran late . Didnt complain because I wanted and expected the same hair service . He took his time , we laughed , spoked as old friends , he of course apologized and I was okay. Some customers are different ( I am one) . The hydration treatment was 👌. Hair was washed , trimmed and silk pressed . It was a nice experience and my hair felt healthier than I walked in. Overall besides the time . I enjoyed my experience and left happy . Issay did a great job, Will be back!2022- update ... I changed stylist this time around. Went to summer and glad I did.. appt was at 5 pm.. she had me washed, under the dryer / steamer for a treatment ( assuming ) 5:30 ... we chatted it up , got some recommendations and I was out by 7pm ( I think) . Prices are fair for natural hair . Coming from Brooklyn was definitely worth it ! Check her out .. both stylist are great 👍 you will love the outcome and the way u look.
Im so furious, I dont even know where to begin. Ill just give you the cliff notes and leave this picture of the back of my hair...you be the Judge...Had an 11:00 AM appointment, left at 5:30 PM. Wanted my hair dyed Honey Blond and a tapered cut, $485. Six and a half hours later, this is the result. The icing on the cake was when I went to pay, I was told to use CASHAPP or ZELLE because the Credit Card machine wasnt working. Isnt that something that should have been stated BEFORE services rendered...I was told that the Color Correction would be $375 and the Cut would be $85 up BEFORE my hair was started. Ive NEVER had such a horrible experience at a Hair Salon before and Ive never walked out without tipping before Friday, March 18, 2022! I was so angry and flustered and the OWNER KNEW IT, because SHE Colored and Cut my hair! She didnt ask me if I was Happy with my hair...she didnt give me a mirror so that I could SEE the BACK of my hair. Notice the patches of discoloration! My hair IS and LOOKS Dry and feels brittle to the touch. And neither she (The OWNER) nor the woman who took my payment smiled and said Thank you, come again. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! Now, I have to wait (because I dont want to further STRESS AND DAMAGE whats left if my hair) and find a Hairstylist to CORRECT this atrocity!
Theyre talented stylist but the wait time is unacceptable. Made an appointment for ONLY wash and trim for 830 am and didnt leave until about 1030 am. They apologize all the time but doesnt make it right. They are overbooking and I have personally seen them see family/friends before they get to your hair. When I came in the stylist was in middle of one client then she went ahead and put two other people ahead who obviously didnt have an appointment or they were squeezed in. Botton line: Talented but unprofessional. Been there for 3 times this year and experienced extremely long wait times each visit (at least an 1hr sitting with wet hair waiting for service). Only reason why I keep going back, because not too many places that cater to curly hair.
Went in for rod set (3 hrs on website). There for 6-7 hours.Waited an hour after getting my hair washed to start the rod process. The rods were pulled way too tight.Heat burned my scalp from dryer. Asked to turn it down and that it was uncomfortable and my scalp was hurting. Then she put me under the dryer again(total - 2 1/2 under dryer). Was supposed to get a trim, and never got it because it took so long.Scalp is sore and burned from the heat. She ended up not styling my hair and leaving it mostly parted after taking the rods out.Highly do NOT recommend. They do not care for the well being of their customers; only the money apparently.Very disappointing seeing that on Instagram they make everything look nice and professional, but reality hits when you walk in and no one actually cares for the “health” of your hair. Very unprofessional and disorganized.
I really love my color! Raquel is the bomb!!! Shes definitely got a gift and is very passionate at her craft. The atmosphere and staff are very welcoming..great conversations and entertainment while styling.I will be taking the semi long ride back for sure. It is an added bonus that the establishment is black owned. Thank you Raquel❣
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON.went to this salon yesterday for the fist time for a simple wash and go and my experience was HORRIBLE! I started to write a long winded recount but I want to make sure you READ THIS, so decided to make a list of ever that went wrong instead.1) detangled my hair while DRY2) sold me a $25 deep conditioner treatment that I could barely feel in my hair because it was so little. She Hardly but anything on my hair at all. Complete rid off. Do not fall for this.3)she did not put any regular conditioner on my hair and when I asked, she explained “the hair doesn’t need conditioner to be de tangled, just WATER.” 😳😲😲4)Detangled my hair while putting the curling products and pull my hair so much that my scalp still hurts 24 hours later.5) Again, they are very stingy with the products they use. She applied a tiny little be of curling cream on my whole head without parting it in sections- again, I could not feel the product when I touched my hair. The only thing she used a lot of and used to detangled my hair was mousse!!5) Used 20 pounds of edged wax to lay down my edges which you could see from miles. At the end my hair was puffy even before I left the salon. I paid $75 for a horrible serve and I still gave a $10 tip because I find it rude not to.
I called this salon on a whim while driving down 495 and the stylist Tammi pick up. She said she was available and I was 10 min away so I went. When I tell you this was the best experience in a Black hair salon I ever had believe it!. There was no attitudes, no funny looks just a beautiful soul who you couldnt tell I didnt know for 10 years already lol. definitely will be making this salon my regular place. and my silk press came out bomb thanks Tammi
The only place to do natural hair with stylists that know and understand keeping hair healthy.. I am natural, and go for my 3-4 month trim and blow-out. I highly recommend Issay, he is skilled, patient (my hair is a 4-5 hour task) and hilarious. Great conversation, a great place to laugh and relax, then walk out sexy as hell. Ps, all at a reasonable price. Always has been, unlike the other natural hair salons around the city. Been a client of Shanels, the owner, for over almost 13 years. She is skilled with scissors!
Excellent service. Clean salon. Staff friendly and professional. Love a black owned business. Loved the atmosphere and energy of the staff. They are too funny had me cracking up. Support to its fullest. I saw Summer and she is the truth. Was able to setup same day appointment. Got a silk press and it came out amazing. Summer is highly recommended. Thank you again.
Very spacious and updated salon. I will give the pros and consPros- can conveniently make an appointment online.*plenty of onstreet parking*welcoming and knowledgeable staff*spacious and modern salon with quality products*Owner is very professional and genuinely cares about her business and staff. She is very interested in your experience at her salon and how or if she can make it better.Cons:On the pricey side for a silk press and steam treatment. (Tip: if you want to save a few bucks, you can book at a lower price with her junior stylists. They are trained very well and are genuinely interested in hair care as well)Overall, I will return.Update! I returned and was serviced by Summer for my silk press. She will be my Go too from now on at Jakari. Shes friendly, and takes her time with your hair. I also noticed she used minimal heat and was very gentle. 1 week later and my curls are still in tact! I have been sleeping with my hair in the pineapple method with a silk scarf covering my entire head! I comb through the curls everyday and they still bounce back. Im so happy I found Jakari salon, and even happier they have Summer!changing from 4 stars to 5!
So much great energy there. The staff is great, really nice people overall. I’ve been there a total of 3 times and I liked everyone that did my hair, Issay is the one that left the biggest impression on me. Talking to him was like talking to one of my best friends from the minute we started speaking. I knew I had to leave a review for the whole salon after he did my hair. I love my hair. They really make sure they take care of your hair. I’ve been recommending this salon to all my friends.
Exceptional experience! The staff was very nice to me and the setting was comfortable and lively. My hair has never been colored or processed before and I wanted to go to a colorist that knew how to take care of natural hair. Raquel really took care of my hair as she colored it for the first time and gave it a deep hydration treatment. I highly recommend this shop for all your natural hair needs! Before and after (before the curls dropped) pics!
Excellent, black-woman owned hair salon! All of the stylists are very knowledgeable in all aspects of hair care, particularly natural hair care! Summer and Akelia nursed my hair back to life and Ive been confidently rocking my natural hair for the first time in my life! You wont regret trusting this salon with your hair care.
You’d be better off going somewhere else. I went hear to straighten my hair and they damaged it. I remember my hair stylist barely putting any heat protectant on my hair. I’m really disappointed because that mean I have to cut off years of growth. Please save yourself the trouble and don’t come here.
I loved what Quoia did for me for my first visit with my color and trim (more like a cut cuz my ends were horribleeeee lol) but I took one star off because I had to return for a color correction because when I got home I realized the color was uneven but it was fixed for free and I would personally give Quoia 5 stars!....but I take another star off because I recommend my sister to come for a hair cut and the guy (not sure his name) did her cut and instead of saying he wasn’t good at low cuts, we spent $70 for a completely horrible cut. I would never in my life recommend him to cut anyone’s hair. Maybe his specialty is something else like color or something but his low cutting is trash and he should practice more. But not on me and my family. All he had to do was tell us he was probably not best for the job...anything for a tip I guess. Here are some photos taken a half hour after coming home from this visit....the salon as a whole takes good care of natural hair but for the price, the stylists need to all be pristine. I lost my trust in them from that experience and will take my business elsewhere.
I came into the salon for my daughter to get a surprise and was denied due to the fact that the stylus had an attitude problem and she didn’t have patience she was very rude and denied me the service within five minutes of my daughter being in the chair and my daughter was well behaved just crying a little bit. I spoke with her to try to get her to reconsider but she denied me she was very rude about it , Her Name is Summee , PLEASEEEE do not go to this salon they will waste your money and your time
I made an impromptu call to the Jakari j. salon this morning, in the hopes they could accommodate me today without having an appointment. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the stylists told me they’d be happy to see me, but it would be best if I could arrive within the next 30-45 minutes. I made my way over to the salon ASAP and was immediately greeted by the kind and personable Issay, whom I had spoken with earlier over the phone. He was working with a client but asked what I wanted done. I explained what I wanted and he said someone would be with me shortly. Soon thereafter, the equally kind and personable Akelia came over to consult with me. She was wonderful. She colored my hair to cover my gray and gave me an intense conditioning treatment. An unexpected bonus came in the form of a wonderfully therapeutic neck massage after the shampoo. Issay took over after that and expertly roller set, blowed and curled my natural hair. The results were amazing and I was very pleased. I had a great experience today. The salon is beautiful and comfortable and the stylists are gifted professionals.
I started my natural hair journey 4 years ago but didn’t know how to manage my hair, hence I wore my hair in braids etc. I walked into this salon 3 weeks ago, had my consultation with Ms. Summer and I’m really pleased. I have been rocking my hair naturally, it looks healthy and Summer is amazing! Highly recommend her and this place.
Let me start off my saying I can be the most impatient and indecisive person when it comes to my hair. The stylist at Jakari J are understanding, patient and experienced. Issay provides me with top notch quick and amazing service all with a smile. I’m thankful and satisfied with every visit. Keep up the amazing work Jakari J staff!
The salon is clean and Im sure that for others it was a good experience but this was not the case for me ... I have spanish curly hair, loose tight curls ... I went in on a Saturday and asked if they cut curly hair dry, as Ive had it done this way and Ive had the best results for my hair that way the shape and style is visible, they said yes so I booked an appointment. When I went in for my appointment they were very nice but that is not the point ... the point is they did not know how to cut my hair. The stylist cut my hair so short, more than what I had asked, and I could live with that but what I cant live with is this terrible cut that she gave me. I had this done 3 months ago and I was not going to write a review but the more I work with my hair trying to make the best of a bad haircut the more I see how badly she cut my hair, she ruined it ... on the left side of my face the curls hang lower than my right and on my right side the hair is so unevenly cut, I actually have shorter curls by the middle of my ear and longer curls by the front side of my ear. I paid for my service and I even tipped because I too work in the service industry and I know that it all counts but the skills were just not there. If you decide to give the stylists a chance be very clear as to what you want ... I thought I did, I had pictures to show the stylist but I made the mistake in closing my eyes and trusting that she knew what she was doing ... that was my mistake and now I have to wait for my hair to get long enough to try and fix it ... dont do what I did ... if you think they are doing something not right question it ... you dont want to walk out of there with a bad cut
Shanel is the absolute best! She is the most skilled and professional stylist I have ever been serviced by. No long waits and her salon is huge and comfortable . Coffee and water served while you are being serviced. She is an expert at short sexy cuts as well as long and medium length hair, naturals, weaves, wigs, perms, she does it ALL to perfection. She is an expert at hair care as well.I cant recommend her enough. She will not dissapoint!
The last time I went to this salon was about 2 years ago. I asked them to take out my weave, and for a wash and set. The lady who took out my weave was very nice. However...the one who did my wash and set was horrible. She put me under the dryer WITHOUT rollers. She just put my hair into 2 clips. Then when the dryer stopped, she didnt put any products in it. It was so dry and brittle when she was blow drying it. And my hair is more 3C/2C. I dont have 4C hair. Her co worker even asked her what she was doing. I have black people hair, not caucasian hair. You have to put spray, oil, leave in....something, anything in it!Its safe to say, Ive never step foot into this salon again. I go to a Dominican salon because they know how to do my hair.
Its an upscale boutique feel with the neighborhood vibe to it. Its beautiful and Shanel and her team are so talented. I trust them completely with my natural hair. I know theyll keep it healthy and beautiful. There is also a nail technician and an MUA. Literally its a one stop beauty salon
I went there for the first time desperately looking for a natural hair salon, they are amazing. They were patient with me as I decided what style I wanted. They gave me great suggestions and made cutting out the rest of my perm a breeze. I plan on going back for a full set and pedi so Ill see how that goes. Akelia and Summer were amazing. I look forward to my next visit.
DO NOT GO HERE !! You will be BALD !! they do not care about natural hair !!! i spent over 300$ to get my hair dyed for the first time ever for my birthday. I saw their work on instagram and thought they would be the best option..I made an appointment and made sure to call THREE times to make sure they were able to do what i asked which was just light brown highlights on brown hair. They said okay!! When i arrived for my appointment I was Told i had to wait 2 1/2 hours. NO PROBLEM !!! then when i got in the chair this lightskin heaveset lady asked me how i wanted my hair. i showed her at least 10 pictures with soft brown highlights. not too much since it was my first time. she applied bleach in my hair. She NEVER CHECKED The color. She remained doing another customers hair. She then walked over casually to check after at least 45 mins and RUSHED me to wash my hair, which i did. i shouldve known something was wrong !! My hair went into a dark natural brown to a LEGALLY BLOND !!! SHE DIDNT EVEN RINSE OUT ALL THE BLEACH MY HAIR SMELLED HORRIBLE AND WAS SO FRAYED !!!!!! i went on instagram and contacted the stylist to let her know how unhappy i was and even sent pictures and guess what ??? I WAS BLOCKEDD!! how unprofessional especially from a black owned business .i spent soo much of my birthday money there. i expected way better but i guess thats why they say you cant put your trust into black owned business
I like this salon very much. Although the staff and owner are young the salon is managed with class. The decor is lovely, everyone is friendly. Great atmosphere. Its also great to see so many stylists and technicians that have featured skills which is a plus. Every time I leave the salon people ask me where I go to get my her done. Jakari J is on fleek!!!
Salon is very clean and organize, people who work their are very professional except the for lash tech. I Set in appointment for 9am on Friday for top and bottom I was there by 9:05 am, she did text and tell me she was running a little late but 30-45 minutes is unacceptable got she reach at 9:45am, it was not my first time getting lashes so I know that youre supposed to be laid on a table or adjusting chair ( flat) with your eyes closed with eye protection under for the tops and and open for bottom, when she told me to keep my eyes open so they dont stick to the bottom I should of left, because though it does happen, an experience tech would not require your eyes to be open. Not only was some Eyelash glue to the base of my eye skin but even with eyes open it still stuck which she tried to use sharp tweezers to remove instead of the glue remover on a swap. I did voice my concern after which she try to defend her work but i had to go to work so i just paid for my tops only and left.
Very satisfied, thank you for treating government employees to a day to ourselves. Staff was very welcoming, enjoyed the environment all together. Issay blessed my scalp with a great massage! Very skilled! Thank you! And of course Shanel, can’t forget to add your business is a success, continue with the professionalism and great ambiance for working folks! Thanks again
Service was amazing definitely customer service friendly. Service is truly amazing I was recommended from a woman at another hair salon who was doing her nails she told me go to Chanel I Googled location and went. Experience was 10 stars very last female there was courtesy, out going, friendly, and always smiling. Will definitely go back.
Do not come here to get a weave. They braid your hair too tight and the install is horrible. Tight braids leaves you with hair that does not grow (a weave is a protective hairstye for most, when done correctly your hair will grow!) Their weaves are very unnatural and lumpy looking, think of a helmet looking weave. They dont listen to their customers needs at all. Take your money and go elsewhere.
I found this gem while browsing on ig.its so hard to find natural hair salons.so when i stumbled across this page and come to find out its not far from where i live or work i was sold.i have been going there for a while now to get my trims and treatment and i couldnt be more happy.the atmosphere and customer service is impeccable. From the time i started going there, i have always been impressed with Tamaras coloring skills.it took so much out of me not to jump the band wagon and impulsively color my hair since im a color freak and LOVE colors...i always told her if i ever decide to color my hair she will be the go to person.i cant wait to see what she comes up with for my hair 12/30. I trust her so much that im going to let her freestyle and come up with a bomb fiery color and i know she will execute it with no worries. When a client can tell you a vision even it its not so clear lol but still trust you, you know your work is impeccable!
This is not how to please a first time customer!!!! I drove from Eastern Long Island wasted my gas to be told to come back on a Thursday for an appointment I made in advance because the person who specialized in the services I wanted wasnt going to be there i will never ever be making an appointment here again!!! I am beyond pissed, on top of that I made an appointment for 9 am and I still had to wait for someone to get there. Next time you should go over all appointments in advanced to see what you have going for the next day instead of having people waste their valuable time!!!! Time gas wasted!!! You never know how someone took the time to get to your place of business and that should be taken into consideration!
I must say iam very pleased with this salon so clean and and professional they customer service is definitely on point I had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Raquel she didnt just do my hair just to make money she asked questions and went over a few things with me this was my first time at the salon and getting a silk press and her assistant he was amazing he can wash some hair I tell you and he kept making sure I was comfortable I will definitely recommend this salon to my friends and family and I will be visiting again thank you so much I found a new place

2022-05-14Came here on 5/14 to get a relaxer touch up which on the site says $85. Paid a $50 deposit when appointment was made. I needed a trim which was fine and was an additional $25. Hair came out really nice but when I went to the check out desk to pay my balance the lady at the front desk told me it was $127. I was a little confused but didn’t say anything , paid and left. My hair is really thick so I thought there was an extra fee for that, although not mentioned. So I decided to check my account with them. I noticed the lady that did my hair charged me $55 to mold. $55??? To add mouse to the front of my hair !!!?? Not once did she mention throughout my time there that there was an additional $55 to ‘’mold” my hair. I’ve been here before and have never been charged this much. I felt like they robbed me. At least be transparent with your clients. If it’s extra then say but doing a service and then slipping it on their bill is not okay. I always try to support black women owned businesses but I won’t be going back. Beware!!!

2022-03-02Got a silk press and trim with Summer and it was such a great experience! She was very informative, friendly, and diligent. My hair came out so bomb, I love it couldn’t get over the end result. The salon was so pleasant, I will definitely be going back. 10/10 !

2022-03-27I actually love this salon and the young lady Tammiran does a WONDERFUL job with my hair. I’m giving it four stars because of a bad experience at the salon. I booked an early appointment to get my hair conditioned and silk pressed. I had a flight to catch for my vacation in a few hours and I wanted a fresh silk press. Sadly, I had to leave the salon without a silk press due to overbooking. As expected, I was furious because I went on my vacation with a blowout which, is how I left the salon. I don’t blame Tammiran at all, she was just doing her job. I love supporting this business plus it’s black owned, but the booking for appointments must improve.

2022-06-16This shop is unprofessional when it comes to time management. It is completely disrespectful to have a client come in and not even have the hair stylist greet you and inform you that she’s behind on time or even apologize for having a person waste their whole day sitting in the shop with wet hair. The stylist that I booked had another woman wash my hair to (speed up time) and then had me sit with wet hair for 3.5 hours.. and kept assuring me that the stylist was “almost done”. Then when I got up, the story was “how long do you think you can stay? She’s over booked”… If she was overbooked she should’ve informed me before I got there instead of having me drive from Long Island all the way to Astoria Queens and having to leave with soaking wet hair. I left the shop at 7pm. 4 whole hours to waste for a silk press. When I left, the stylist was still working on the SAME client and never even had any professionalism to at least address me instead of staring at me from the time I walked in without even greeting or informing me that she was booked. No apology as she stared at me all the way up until I left the shop. Never again.

2022-06-06Pros: Ill start with saying theyre stylist are great! They know what theyre doing, specifically for natural hair.Cons: But, heres the downside, theyre business practices need improvement. A few instances:1. Went to my appointment for 10 am, the salon wasnt open. After 20 min, employees came, but none had the keys to open. An hour later, the stylist with the keys arrived. No apologies and seemed annoyed when told she was late.2. My mom called to schedule a haircut. When asked what style, she explained he just wants a haircut for natural hair. Was told to hold and waited on the phone for 20 minutes. No one came back. My mom now refuses to go back. When running a business dont be rude, be professional.

2022-04-01This was my first time visiting the salon. I followed summer on IG and loved her work. Her work was just as great in person and on IG. She was so lovely and easy to talk to. She was knowledgeable about the issues I was having with my hair and she gave me a trim. Everyone in the salon was friendly. Summer gained another great client 💕❣️

2022-06-28This place is SUS. Despite the reviews I was still willing to give this place a try. I called two times in a row to speak to Summer. The first time the lady who I will not name, she was nice and listened to me about my hair and told me I can call back Tuesday to reach to summer (that’s when she will be back). I call back today and they gonna tell me the number for the salon is only to book. Why is it I have to book PAY a deposit and travel all the way from LONG ISLAND just to not even know 100% guarantee after the consultation that the stylist can do my hair. I understand hairstylists are busy but so are costumers who are spending their hard working MONEY to support their business. Not even taking 5 mins out of your day to speak is crazy. I even ask when will be a good time or will she be able to speak at a later time. It was just like no she busy for the day. I will take my rich money and hair somewhere else to somewhere that’s going to have professionalism. I know a lot of ppl in the hair industry so I’ll make sure not to recommend this place to any of them

2022-03-21I loved loved loved my experience with this salon. Shanel made magic happen with my hair color. Tiara has the best detangle technique (truly I was so relaxed I could fall asleep while she detangled my hair) and summer hooked up my silk press! I couldn’t imagine anyone coming here and not loving it! The price is deff worth it! Every penny! The staff really take their time to listen to you and help you understand the process. They also will talk you through whether your vision will work or not. They don’t blindly do as you say if it will compromise the health of your hair. Every person working that day talked to me at least once and it was like hanging with a group of friends. I’m truly happy with my experience. Bleaching hair, pressing it and maintaining length with zero breakage, truly a first for me. Feeling super confident with my new look! Thank you!!!

2022-05-11Bad Color allergic reaction, very disappointed how it was handled by just saying “ go to the hospital” by the owner. I really liked this place but I will never go back again. No sense of compassion when some while head is swollen up, had yo go to my doctor for medicine. Disappointed.
