They were Very Professional & Understanding of my needs pertaining to my hair. Also very accomodating ..i paid a reasonable price for waist length braids and the hair was included
I have been coming here for over 5 yrs i dont let no one else braid my hair, the atmosphere is so loving they are family oriented and you see that, they provide the hair if you want a wild color you will have to bring it but sometimes they have it. Other products at the store for sale hair bonnets ,oils etc.. My whole family comes here. Highly recommended!!!! On Saturdays they open at 9am
I love this hair braiding shop!!!! They always lace my haiir so nice. I love them and they always make me so beautiful! Somwtimes the wait is long because they only have 3 chairs but its worth the wait. They are very hospitable and talented women. Their shop is also a beauty supply store so you can get everything to maintain and complement your look. I even trust the with my daughters hair and my little 4 year old niece.

I enjoyed getting my hair done here! The women braid fast, and have a loving and comfortable vibe. I got medium box braids and was done in 3 1/2 hours!! That’s a record. I’m from New Rochelle, and I found this shop on google, I typed in “Braiding hair Bronx” I seen the rates and reviews on the shop and I gave it a go. I was not disappointed! I don’t get my hair braided much, but when I do, they will be my first choice.
I liked that the ladies here were polite and professional. My stylist stopped to ask me if she was braiding my hair the way I wanted it instead of doing what she wanted to do to make a quick buck like some other places. Jays is a beauty supply store and braiding salon. The price is great and reasonable too! I like my hair. This is my go to braiding spot.

Decided to come here after reading all the good reviews. Especially about how quick they are..they werent as quick with me, about 6 hours which is fine. My issue is that after one week my hair is already super frizzy like its been in for weeks. I use braid spray and wear a scarf at night. The one lady braids tight and was able to catch the ends of my hair but apparently the other woman, Suly did not. I didnt like how Suly was starting the braids, a huge bulky knot at the top. So the other woman, Jay I believe, started the braids while Suly finished them. I noticed she didnt braid as tight but it looked fine so I didnt think much of it...barely a week later and it looks a mess. The pics dont even do it justice..smh never again..
All 3 ladies and niece are amazing, respectful and funny. They have everything you need there down to hair, hair care products and so much more. When it comes to your hair these ladies work neatly and quick ( Im tender headed and she took her time with me DEFINITELY MY NEW SPOT ILL BE BACK 🥰

I have never ever wrote a review before until now and it sucks that it has to be bad. First things first I went to get box braids on June 17th 2019 and this place was suppose to be open at 10am and it didnt open until about 40mins later. Okay they had a customer and told me itll take about 2 hours and theyll call for me to come down. So once I arrived and took a seat everything took its turn to the left. The lady tried to blow dry my hair, I calmly told her that I did not want my hair blow dried as I already did that the day prior. She had a slight attitude after I asked her not to do so. I let that go, then I asked her to please not braid my hair tight and if she can use the gel I provided instead of the jam. I dont like that jam in my hair it is damaging. She started to part my hair and then stopped to turn around and eat food for about 6 minutes. That is do disrespectful, if you were hungry you shouldve ate your food before starting my hair . But you literally put your hands in my hair and then turned around to eat food for 6 minutes and put your hands back in my hair ?????? Hell no. And Lets just say I had to say more than 4 times to not braid tight and she still used the jam in my hair . I did not notice until the 4th braid when I smelled it on her hand. Then as I was holding the braids I noticed the braids was smaller than the ones on my right side and I expressed that to her. She went back and forth with me that theyre all the same size and once she put them close together they were not. Her attitude and the other lady in the salon started to get an attitude because I was expressing the troubles I was having while getting my hair done . What ???? Why are you getting mad because Im making sure my hair is being done in a correct way ? Its my hair and I take real good care of it . I expect a hair stylist whether its just braids or not to do the exact same. It is your job! As I was leaving the lady stated to me sorry for your inconvenience with the utmost disgusting attitude . I will never go here again, and I will make sure my family and friends dont either I wouldnt want them to have that treatment. I shouldve stuck to my first decision to taking my butt to Harlem to get it done. Next time I definitely will. These ladies have attitude through the roof and i didnt give it back not one bit . All i did was state the troubles that i was going through. Smh sad
Very lovely and professional ladies. I got my hair braided today and it turned out absolutely beautiful. First of all, I never recieved any pushback when I explained what I wanted. I got small, waist length, knotless box braids. The ladies were all very polite and took their time perfecting my style. The style took quite a bit of work and I appreciate all the love and hardwork they put into it. It is just the way I wanted it, and not right at all. I will be going back again!
This shop has been doing my hair for a few years and the quality of service is Awesome. My braids always look Great and last. The staff is always polite and professional. If you havent visited this shop I highly recommend you make an appointment today.
Besides the actual style being near flawless, my overall experience was not pleasing. First of all they used space heaters on the coldest of days, so I kept my jacket on the entire time-(3 & a 1/2hrs), oh they were late opening up(45 minutes) & not professional about it. The person who did my hair was soooooo unprofessional by listening to music the entire time and SINGING (out of tune) the entire time, even slowing down doing my hair as she looked for music on her phone, answered phone calls & took breaks! Even when told the length of time it would take to do my hair, she went over that time (because of the above) even when making it clear I needed to be out of there by a certain time. It was just not the best experience at all.
This absolutely the best place to braid your hair in the Bronx. Jay, her sister Sally and team are very attentive and friendly. They definitely know how to braid hair too. As long as you tell them what you need they do just that. Will absolutely keep going back.
Look at other reviews...thought Id give them a try. They seemed irritated that I came in even though I called. Showed them a picture of what I wanted for my daughters hair. The older woman started to braid her hair and th lines were not straight or neat. After 3 braids I decided to leave. I apologized and offered to pay for the work done so far but they said its ok. Not my cup of tea.
Jay African Hair Brading is truly amazing. So far I got my hair done twice. Once by Jay and the next time by Sally. They are very professional and pay great attention to detail. They are also very fast...was in and out in record time. The prices are the best in town. Will continue coming back #officiallyaloyalcustomer.

Friendly staff. Didn’t have the hair color but allowed me to purchase at a near by store and reduced the price to compensate for the hair. Took approx 3 1/2-4hrs for twist with design hair part. Happy with the results.

My hair is looking great, BUT... let’s just say I might not go back. This lady thinks I’m here for a free hair do or something. She keeps going to the back being on her phone, walking around. Like wth, I have stuff to do too. She even charge me a different price from what she told me over the phone + I went there with my own hair. She just kept my left overs too smh!If you got the time go get your hair done, results is 👍🏽 not for me though.
Took my daughter to get her hair braided in september and i must say the braids lasted. now she is going back to get them done again. i am satisfied and so was she. courteous and fast and professional service .
The ladies there were so great and they actually finished my box braids in 3.5 hours! Not once did they pull at my edges. They were very gentle, I’ll be returning again!

Awful. Had cornrows from this stylist, it was too tight I had to take it out 3 days after. Then a while later, I went for a weave-in with a closure, after it was installed, it looked so ridiculous on me that I asked the lady to remove the entire closure, she did but still didnt turn out good. I ended up taking the hair off the day after. What a waste of money n time.

The people are so pleasant. They all have great attitudes. The owner makes aure your hair is tight before you leave. I love my hair. I will definetly refer people and go back myself.

I got recommended from my old stylist to come here. I was worried my hair would be braided too tight but theyre perfect! I had the ladies do medium sized box braids with half and half color, with the front being opposite colors. They nailed it and theyre also super nice. Definitely coming again

2022-05-27Highly recommend. They were pleasant and their work is neat. I usually ALWAYS have to go home and fix my hair Im super picky with the ends of the braids and for the the first time I was very satisfied and did not have to touch my hair. They were also very fast. I have very thick long hair. And they finished my braids in 3.5 hrs. Thank you this is my new go to braiding place. Already referred my friends!

2022-02-20I was a bit nervous trying a new hair braiding salon after going to my last stylist for over 15 years. I must say that I was very impressed by their customer service and how friendly they were. Each stylist really take their time to make sure the parts are symmetrical, which is a huge plus for me. I love how my hair came out. I will be going back.

2022-04-19I called for a walk in. I got jumbo mid back Knottless braids with beads with a zig zag middle part. She started on my hair approximately 5:30 pm and then another braider assisted and was out by 7:40 PM. Eventually all three braiders assisted and I was impressed to get out so quickly ! I also loved that the main braider asked me questions and did accomplished the same style I requested.They were super sweet and price was great. I paid $140 + tip ( I provided my own hair and beads due to my hair color). I would definitely recommend. They were quick and efficient ans I loved my hair. I got so many compliments.There is also a train and bus right in front!

2022-04-11I found these ladies 3 weeks ago. They told me no appointment just walk in. I was in and out in 2 hours and my dreads came out perfect! Miriam was so sweet and all the ladies were very nice! Will be back in a few weeks 😉

For the best result bring pics of your desired style. This store also sells beauty supplies and accessories: jewelry, sunglasses, & handbags. Walk-ins are welcome.

2022-01-22This is my third time going to this shop and I am so disappointed. Here’s why:1. My hair is completely damaged after this appointment (crochet braids). They were pulling and twisting like my hair wasn’t attached to my scalp. I have extremely thick hair and I lost FISTFULLS of hair after this. I’m traumatized.2. The braids looked bulky as hell. I took them out after 2 weeks because I couldn’t go outside looking terrible anymore (didn’t want my money to go to waste but damn). The stylist even kept saying “I could do nice box braids next time”…hinting at the fact that she knew it came out terrible.3. The stylist kept stopping for just about everything (phone calls, bathroom breaks, other customers, you name it). One bathroom break took damn near 20 mins.4. She kept switching with her heavy handed sister without notice. I ended up with two different install patterns.They’ve always been a little pricey and even neglected to return products I purchased after using but I liked them because they were family ran and the shop is a decent size. But neither of those things matter when they pay so little care to the health of your hair. They seem like they don’t care whether they cause breakage or other damage. will NEVER return.

2022-04-11I love love love this place. It’s a hidden gem. All three braiders are professional and capable in their craft. I’ve been coming here for years, and just got my 3 year olds hair done for the first time. She didn’t cry at all.
