Worst hostel experience of my life. Nobody ever picks up the phone or replies to emails.. they did not give us towels. The kitchen could not be used. people keep slamming doors at night.. and the person working there did not even speack english. And they took twice the ammount from me and are not refunding me what they took double. I hope somebody gets back to me....
Pitiful. I showed up with paid confirmation of room and confirmed email of reservation, and yet they tried to say I didn’t pay. I’m assuming they were overbooked so they turned us away. The man at the desk was rude, unhelpful, and we had to find a place on a Saturday night in nyc. Terrible. Won’t answer their phone either. Do not book here.
I have stayed at Jazz on the Park numerous times over the past year and each time was pleased.I REALLY DO NOT understand these nasty - and which I found totally untrue - reviews posted here re Jazz on the Park. The staff at the front desk, the manager, even the cleaning personnel are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are clean, quiet; one time there was someone very, intrusively noisy but, when I complained? The staff magically found a way to move her - or had her check out - I forget which - but they promptly and with concern for my happiness?SOLVED the problem toot sweet! The rooms - we have only stayed in their private bunk bed rooms with shared bathrooms- albeit, somewhat spartan are quiet, comfortable and safe. I have NEVER experienced people in the lobby or common areas acting obstreperously. The other guests I alway find friendly. The shared bathrooms are always clean; likewise the shared showers which, given no one has - in all the say 20 - 30 times I have stayed here - only once has anyone been in - almost might as well be private and in your room. These unkind people who are posting bad reviews of Jazz? All I could think is why would they lie?I have decided they must work for other hotels nearby, who dont like the competition the pricing of Jazz on the Park is giving them - Jazz is always about $50.00 less than they offer. That is my only explanation I can come up with because they simply are untrue. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, clean room for yourself and a friend and dislike paying an arm and a leg?I would recommend Jazz on the Park - you will not come away disappointed and the staff will take good care of you!
The host was very poor, not nice and renovated as they said. I sleep in a 6 female bad room and wasnt clean . In the room there are 2 plugs only, crazy. They do not give you towel for the shower, the bathroom were dirty too and with not toilet paper. The common area is big ,but I found different dead bugs around and the kitchen is not available either for make a coffee. The receptionists are too young with not experiencing, so they can not help you to learn how to explore the city and they are also very arrogant.Stay at thus hostel was the bad experience ever. I am always super comfortable traveling and staying at the hostel, but not thus one.
Total scam artists. They allow you to book a bed without informing you that they dont allow New Yorkers to stay, and then dont let you get a refund when they finally let you know. Avoid this place at all costs, and believe the negative reviews. Jazz is completely untrustworthy.
Extremely tiny room with no amenities. Feels claustrophobic. Pillows are paper thin! Bathrooms and showers are dirty. Didnt even get a towel. Hostel staff said, they dont want to turn on the heat. Spent the whole night cold. Wifi only works in common area. Worst hostel/hotel experience of my life.
You wont see these photos on the website, haha. Dirty bathrooms. Weird insects in shower. Both soda machines steal $. Staff cant reimburse you. Walls with water damage. Some rooms smell like mold. Its cold. Rooms heater doesnt work. Their website says towels included with stay (free). Wrong. They cost $5. Wi-Fi available? Sure..only in the lobby though. Not from your room. If you cant see the photos here, open the Google Maps app to see this place from my point of view.
I was looking for a super cheap place in the city, that was in a safe neighborhood, had nearby free parking and was walkable for most of Manhattan. This place checked all those boxes. If you are looking for anything more than this, Jazz on the Park probably isnt for you. Also, bring your own towel, shampoo, and blanket.
!!Disgusting!! Room which I was appointed to was so dirty! Doodle and dirt on the bed. Not kidding. Luckily they got me another room. At least a clean bed. No elevators. No WiFi. (Only some wifi af reception). Rough ragody place. Ceiling are coming off. Toilet did not flush. Emailed the owner what’s going on here but no reaction. Only good thing was the Reception people. Those I wanna thank. For the rest… this place needs to get a huge update.
Worst hotel/hostel experience of my life ever! There is no cleanliness or hygiene at this place. Washrooms are as dirty as they can be. Wi-Fi will work only in the common area, not in the rooms. Rooms dont have sufficient lights. Air conditioning does not work properly and staff is pretty uninformed about such things. When asked, they replied If its not starting means it is not working, apologies for the inconvenience. Its a very shady looking place. Left the place immediately after the first day and found another better options to stay in New York.
If I could give it negative 5 stars I would. Made reservations online for a full sized bed and smoking room for basically no reason. Went to check in at 1230 cause website said 24/7 hassle free check in but had to wait and walk around with our baggage for 3 hours to check in. Then we finally get to check in and they won’t give me the room and bed I paid for. Stuck in a room with bunk beds. After paying for the services I asked for previously. Front desk clerk was rude and very unhelpful. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE !!!
Awesome amenities for price. I enjoy staying at this location when need be; the front desk staff are friendly, respectful and understanding. They give you clean sheets and a warm blanket for your stay. The housekeeping is exceptional, they come and change the garbages and sheets often. The showers are public but remain clean and smell like bleach which is a PLUS mid covid. Id definitely recommend this place to someone traveling to New York or just looking for a warm place to stay for a night.
No frills standard hostel. Service is good. If youre only looking for a place to sleep, shower and park your bags this is your place. Clean. Rooms are warm in the winter. Plenty of hot running water. Clean toilets. This place could do with a bar! But has a common room.down stairs. I would have given it 5 stars if I had a plug point near my bed. It was at the other end of the room. Plenty of security and great location with a subway just 4 minutes away. Very reasonably priced too.
Accidentally wrote my review on the other location, but I enjoyed my stay on the fact that the staff is very nice. The entire place left something to be desired but I like to be treated nicely and with respect as a customer and I felt like the staff did a good job of that. Could be cleaner but it is New York, after all.
I had to face discrimination toward Asians in NYC. It was one of the worst experiences ever for a night staying. When I checked in, a front lady tried to charge $120 for $40. I explained that my reservation was $40, but she said, In New York, tax is a difference. Even I showed her my reservation email, she skipped the seeing price but doubted me. She was friendly to a white male behind me, though.Because she gave me $120 room was mistaking of my name with another same last name person. I noticed about it when I returned room at 1AM seeing my roommate was a male for my female room reservation.I complained about it to the front desk the following day, but they doubted me again. Moreover, even after checking out the hotel, they dont complete my reservation. Asian name is not understandable, hun.I tried to complain about this horrible experience to the hotel manager, but the manager was also rude. Okay. All staff including the manager are saying that is you can say nothing for cheap staying. You make money from the cheap people. Do you understand about it?
Its certainly not a 5 star hotel, but that shouldnt be expected at this price level. Some of the other reviews made me nervous about staying here, but it turned out to be unjustified. Staff was accommodating to every need I had, rooms and roommates felt safe, and its not super clean in the showers at all times, but at the same time not as bad as some other reviewers make it seem. It is perfectly fine and I enjoyed my stay. The main downside for me was the lack of an elevator to the fifth floor with a 50lbs bag. Would recommend for a cheap stay in a wonderful, safe and convenient location in Manhattan. I was only there to sleep, as I was out in the city during the day.
Ive stayed at over 20 hostels worldwide and this one was the dirtiest. Our air con in our room wouldnt work and the new one sounded like a truck and also barely worked. The showers and toilets are disgusting offering no privacy to get changed. The floors and walls looked like they have never been cleaned in the bathrooms and rooms. The only redeeming feature was that the staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
You get what you pay for! Most of the staff is super nice, location great and the mattress was very comfortable. But the whole place is really outdated and has a depressing atmosphere. Also it doesnt seem to get cleaned more than once a week if even that (especially bathrooms are filthy!) and the showers dont give you ANY privacy. The kitchen is more or less non existent (there is a fridge, hot water and a microwave though) and they dont even provide basic utensils like cutlery or cups. The free wifi doesnt work in the rooms on the 5th floor and there were only 2 plugs for 8 people. Also be aware: the vending machine (if there is even anything in there at all - most of my stay it was completely empty) eats up your coins and nobody seems to care! They just shrugged it off but didnt offer reimbursement or anything! The price is unbeatable but I wouldnt stay here again even if I was offered money to do so - and I have stayed in a lot of hostels, so I didnt expect hotel standards...
Its an amazing hostel, its affordable, comfortable and located near the Central Park as well as a nearest local metro station 103 street. The staff is super friendly but sometimes the roommates are not that friendly even if you are a foreign tourist visiting the country. There is also a marketplace where one can buy groceries nearby. The hostel doesnt provide the utensils for cooking but they have all the other necessary items like stove, fridge, a vending machine and a dining room. The rooms are comfortable but the only issue I had was that there is no lift. My workout was done just by climbing the stairs. There is no attached bathroom or a toilet, those are provided separately and the bathroom is separated for both males and females. Different rooms are also provided for comfortablity for the guest. Co-ed, all females and all males rooms are available. And every other day there is always something interesting happens at the hostel.
The location was great - quiet, safe, very close to the subway and central park. The beds were adequate. The bathrooms, however, were absolutely FIFTHLY. Smelled like a port-a-potty, dirty counters, toilet paper on the floor. Part of our group stayed in a room on the first floor, and the heat was on very high in their room and it was incredibly hot. However, our room on the fifth floor had no heat on at all and it was very cold all night (we stayed in mid-October). I would’ve froze if I hadn’t brought my own blanket. Also, don’t depend on the vending machines, because all of them in the building were EMPTY.
I wish there was an option for 0 stars🙄. The room with the private bathroom on 2nd floor, the water does not get hot. Its $5 for a reused towel thats by the front desk. Had to beg the staff to spray the room with lysol. The room had a very bad odor. The room was cold which made it difficult to shower, since only the cold water was working in there.
The location is great, really close to the Metro and Central Park. Yet, besides the location (and maybe price) there is nothing else great about it. For many years, I have loved my experience at Jazz on Columbus (5 stars) but they were fully booked for my dates, I trusted the brand and went for the Central Park location. The building , including rooms, seem renovated but really worn out. The bathrooms are clean but really old, with parts loose, no amenities, and little privacy. But what really made me doubt my decision was a man literally screaming and hauling in the middle of the night without anyone seeming to care. Only stay here if you are a backpacker with low standards and money is really a high concern. In case you are wondering, yes $15 more a night will make a huge difference in your hostel experience and most probably will be worth paying.
DO NOT STAY HERE. I would like to preface this review by stating that I was compensated 50% of the total rate that was paid upon checkout today. However, money does not make up for the inconvenience nor the insults and arguing that occurred today when I spoke to Eric (front desk) at checkout. Instead of addressing issues that occurred and take responsibility (on the hostels end) he accused me of not listening and being unreasonable. That argument is the reason I decided to post it. I hope it was worth it.1) The sink in the womens restroom was not working until the second day; I had to tell two reps at the front desk. The first one did nothing and told me to go to the first floor.2)There was no wi-fi in my room during the entire stay; only available in the lobby. This was not clear or stated anywhere.3) my (electronic) key card was switched to another room (somehow) so I had to go to the front desk. (I had just gotten out of the shower and was not dressed)4) one of the two toilets in the womens restroom is dysfunctional; required four flushes5) when informed the front desk about the dysfunctional toilet, the custodian locked the door to the working bathroom. I had to go downstairs AGAIN to address that6) I couldnt access my room today at 10:45 am. (Checkout isnt until 11am so the hostel screwed up on this.) Once again, I was just coming out of the shower and not properly dressed.7) There was a man in the womens restroom. The guy wasnt the problem. The issue is Eric calling me unreasonable when I told him they have cameras and could manage that. The rooms are electronically accessed they COULD do the same for the m/f bathrooms or make keys. Soooo many establishments do this.8) Eric--the rep at front desk--decided it was appropriate to go back and forth, argue and insult me instead of focusing on a solution.
Rough, Ive stayed in dozens of hostels and only have had one other hostel be even comparable to this one. Also the images are not truthful, its dirty and unless you are a heavy sleeper you will not sleep at all. My trip was actually impacted by this hostel, I would have been able to see much more f NYC if I were able to sleep here, I checked at 11am only getting 2 hours of sleep and barely appreciating the MET because of how tired I was.Pros+You get your own bed+location close to transportation+vending machinesCons- Dirty, I am no neat freak but when you enter the bathroom after the cleaning crew was just there, to find day pee caked onto the toilet seat. (Mens room 3rd floor)-LOUD this is the biggest issue by far, we all get hostels to sleep in but if you cant sleep why bother right. All the doors are metal and the slam, and I mean SLAM shut. Every 20ish minutes from 2-7am I was frighteningly awakened by the crash of the metal doors.-Untruthful, First off the photos, never saw a juice bar, there is no game room every photo I saw was not accurate, the only currently accurate photo is the one of the bunk beds. Price was weird to I looked it up the day before the price was 53$, when my friend who was already staying there asked them that day what a check in price would be they said 130$, he some how talked them down, but he payed before he got there and ended up paying like almost 40$ more a night for the same room that I did ( we shared a room). All in all the price is semi reflective of the hostel if pay around 50$, however no hostel or hotel or any business of this manner should take your money if they cant even provide you sleep.
Room sizes are ok, and there was no major disaster during our stay. Location was good as well, near to the subway, the central park and several food places. Thats why I dont give just 1 star, because everything else was pretty terrible. Bathrooms were gross and not very private, staff was inefficient and slow. Piping went through our room and it was very audible when something went through it. Also a weird metallic noise kept occurring in the room from time to time. The worst thing probably was that the heaters were turned up to the max, creating a sauna-like experience in the room; reception staff said they couldnt do anthing about it and told us to just open the windows. Even after having the window open for the whole night (in February!) it was still uncomfortably warm.
Honestly the worst hostel I’ve stayed at. The staff have no sense of personal space, had multiple issue of being cornered and grabbed by a staff member. Told them I didn’t feel comfortable, only for it to happen again. Checked out but was told I would be be able to receive a refund by the same staff member involved in the incident because they only ever seem to have one person on. It is a horrible place, with unhelpful staff and dirty bathrooms. Definitely would not recommend - especially for a female solo traveller.
Good part of the hostel:1.good location near subway.2.bed is quite comfortable and clean enough.3.staff in reception desk is nice .bad points:1. I put my luggage in the morning before checking in later at night . As i back to the hostel at night , i found the coded lock of my luggage was been opened already . The lucky thing is since there is only smelly clothes in my luggage , nothing valuable been stolen.2. the door of female-only bathroom can’t be locked .3. there is a kind of strange smell came out from exhaust fan of bathroom in first floor . it seems like the smell of weed .4. hair dryer of bathroom in first floor doesn’t work. socket near bed doesn’t work.5. the bed which i booked is female-only room. however, there is somehow a guy came in at night for sleeping in another bed and make the room become a mixed room.
Ive stayed in hostels all over the world and and Ive never stayed in one this bad. The smell of 409 was so strong that it gave me a headache, yet the entire place seemed very dirty. The bathrooms were dirty, with one of the two toilet stalls being covered in vomit for days. The staff were extremely unhelpful, unable to answer basic questions like what restaurants were nearby. There was no coffee bar, no breakfast, only a very dirty refrigerator with standing water in the bottom. The hostel is far from museums, galleries, and most of the interesting things in the city. We stupidly paid in advance and were unable to get a refund. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Was going to say stay 3 nights but checked out after one. Room was incredibly hot like sweating in the middle of the night hot. The bed I was assigned to had already been slept in and not cleaned took another then got woken up in the morning by them cleaning the rooms ( before check out time) asked why I wasnt in my assigned bed and then they two staff members had a conversation about it and pointed at me in a different language making me uncomfortable. The staff at the front when we cancelled our stay didnt ask why.But a different staff when we came back to get our bags asked why we were leaving and was super nice maybe if he was there before we could of sorted it out. All in all; hot, not super clean, no proper kitchen, okay staff.
Good location. Good wifi. No elevator. Youll need to carry your bags upstairs. TERRIBLE STAFF! Rude people, no patience or people skills for a front desk. Dont wait friendly people or a hostel environment, wait for short-quick-easy-answers. Theyll extra charge you for absolutely everything, including putting your bags in the locker room after checkout. Up to you to decide if this good or bad for a hostel.Overall rooms and bathrooms are ok!
Good price for the location but you will definitely pay for it in comfortability, bathroom cleanliness and the loud metal door that bangs throughout the corridor every time anyone in your hall comes and goes or uses the bathroom. That damn door slammed every ten minutes for three days ALL night. The mens bathroom has no urinals and only two toilets, so I had to go to the lobby for a whiz at 2am when two guys occupied the bathroom with their biz. Sink was nasty and you have to hold the button for water, hand dryer was weak. I couldnt sleep there and really didnt enjoy my stay. I gave two stars because the staff was really nice...I suggest paying the extra $20 a night to go anywhere else for peace of sleep and cleanliness
I stayed here during a friends wedding in late April 2016. I paid a very reasonable amount to stay in a 2-bed female dorm.First the positives: The staff was friendly. Free luggage storage until check in, very close to the subway, comfy beds, clean rooms, easy check in and out, weekend rooftop parties with Alex. The not so great: The wifi is only available in common areas and the bathrooms could be cleaner.Honestly, my biggest gripe about this place are the other people who stay there. In my room there were no issues, but at one point, there was a woman who sang/screamed gospel music in the shower for an hour at 7:30 am! I slept with ear plugs in, and that helped, but sharing quarters with so many people makes you loathe humanity. Unfortunately, Jazz cant change who reserves rooms.
The rooms are NOT what are shown in the photographs. I stayed in a 6 bunk room which looked bright and relatively spacious online, only to find myself in a dark room that had 8 bunks crammed into it, 2 of those werent in use so apparently that makes it a 6 bunk room.Absolutely everything in the building is dilapidated and decaying, and while the staff are friendly and helpful, its as though the owners make a point of just not caring if the building rots into the ground. There arent enough power sockets in the room and theyre located in difficult to reach places, so I had to go out and buy an extension lead just to charge my phone and laptop.People say you get what you pay for, but you do at least expect SOME level of quality. The level of indifference to the decay of their facilities is astounding. The only positive things about staying there were that the beds were clean, and because the hostel was such a dump it gives you an incentive to stay out exploring for as long as you can because you dont want to go back to it.
Pretty good for the price. Its clean and organized. A friend stayed over other hostel for almost the same price, but the installations were no where near as good as the ones here. Shared bathrooms were never shared as you barely run into other people. Great place at great price
Had to book a place for 5 nights quickly last July. Traveled by bus from Boston. Very easy to find, easy to book directly. Cozy, small but nice, friendly staff is my accurate description of the place. I would recommend this place to anyone but people looking for hotel like experience. It isnt. But what they have is very hostel like. If I had the chance, I would go again.
Hostel contained many features and nice luxuries for a low cost nightly place to stay in the city. Bathrooms were although small, clean and well kept. There was bathrooms on every level, not personal bathrooms for each room. The showers were good, with hot water and shampoos supplied. There isnt much to do inside of the hostel, but it is right next to a subway station that takes you downtown.
Its not the worst hostel Ive staid in, but it is by far the most expensive, so youd expect it to be something else. Its not. No breakfast, no kitchen, beds are only decently comfortable, the bathroom fan is industry sized = audiative inferno, air-conditioning in rooms is noisy, rooms are bland concrete. Not really a social place at all because theres no kafé or bar and only 2 beds per room. In fact all you can buy in the reception is stuff that is usually free, like luggage storage after checkout and computer access. Good points is the beds are solid not wobbly. Location is not as good as I though because the center is pretty far.
The staff was so friendly and helpful! I actually messed up something with my booking and they were very accomodating towards helping me figure out the situation. Then when I got there, they all treated me well and made me feel at home. My stay was comfortable. They even set up entertainment and outings for you to go on if you wish. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for an affordable place with a great location.
I would rate this hostel as a good hostel. Although the service and location are great, the lockers in the room are tiny and require you to supply your own lock (despite what may have been stated on their website). Additionally, the community bathrooms were not very clean. Overall, this was a good hostel to stay in (especially in NYC), but it was not nearly as good as some of the other hostels that I have stayed in the past.
This is a bare basics hostel. Our private room was small and reeked of smoke but ultimately was functional for our 4 day stay. The bathrooms arent the most private going around but at the same time I did not find myself showering at the same time as anyone else during the time we were there.Location is excellent, right near a number of subway stops, very short walk to central park and slightly longer walk to the museum of natural history and other nearby attractions. Staff were generally very helpful.
No heat or hot water. There is no front desk but they forget to tell you that there are guys in the room. The second night, I brought my own blanket and there was a young girl who had a lot of open and old food that was attracting bugs. They don’t care after they take your money. Very dirty.
Very dirty. On the first day when I arrived they put my stuff in the luggage room and didnt lock it. But on the last day, they put my stuff in a better one at the basement. The hostel was pretty dirty, facilities too. They were sitting everyday in the kitchen (it was the lounge as well) and didnt recognise the dirty windows. I think nobody has ever cleaned the windows. It was not allowed to use the kitchen. The aircon in the lounge was damaged. It was like 30°. Its ok if you need just a place to sleep, but the price was to high for that!
It doesnt deserve an start. Is so dirty. They dont have enough personal to attend at first. It took me more than one hour to do the check in. It was just 1person at the host. I feel sorry for that guy. It was a line of ppl arriving and asking for stuff. The rooms arent that good, because the stuff they have doesnt work. The bathrooms are disgusting the first thing I saw was a Cockroach inside the women restroom, also theres no light, so you need to use a lintern or a phone to see inside. The towels they bring does not look clean it all, I found hair in the sheets . In conclusion this place it sucks!!!. 🖓🖓🖓Dont doubt, about reserved in another place.
Share a 4 bedroom and you have to walk five floors up. Ohh, service forgot to tell you about getting a towel at the front, another 5 floor stairway to descend and ascend. Bathroom was not inconvenient though not dirty--youll see. No breakfast. Poor lighting on first, communal floor. $15 a day tax. Service by the end of stay was sketchy and determined by who was up front. No diversity in hiring practices.
Hostel is neat and clean. Staff is nice, location is excellent near to subway and central park. Groceries and restaurants is on walking distance.Bad thing is no wifi in my room. If some one get the room take 1st floor to 3rd floor because no wifi on the 4th and 5th floor.
Im here for 1 night and I pretty much like it. The wifi is only on the common area though. The rooms are comfortable and have a locker(bring your own lock). The heater works and it may get a little too hot if you do not open the window a little. The bathroom is shared(one per floor) and the showers work good.
The place was inexpensive which is why I stayed there. It was clean and the staff was nice, but didnt do have features I just expect from hostels at this point. Wi-Fi didnt reach the rooms, just public area. Not breakfast included, most will give you are least a bagel and coffee. I stayed on the 5 floor (I think there are 6), which means to get internet I had to walk up and down 4 flights of stairs. Not bad, but wouldnt go back
I been to a lot of hostels...mostly in Europe. This was my first hostel experience in States. The staff was alright but the place was absolutely nasty! I stayed at the 7-bed male dorm. There were 3 other people there. The room was filthy..beyond disgusting. The couch was covered with white stuff that appeared to be semen! There was bogger smeared everywhere. I put my book on the table without checking it first, next thing I know there was bogger stuck to my book! One more thing, they do not wash their sheets. The sheet and blankets were dirty and they stank. I dont think they wash them routinely. I dont care about the free breakfast, clean kitchen, nice common room...which were non-existent in this hostel...just clean the damn sheets. One the second night I had rashes everywhere and my skin was itchy. I think it must have been bed bugs...as they rarely clean the sheets.
No Wi-Fi in room, Wi-Fi in common area is painfully slow. Blankets have a bad smell it was obvious they were not replaced when the previous guests moved out. There is no kitchen, a standard offering at hostels. Bathroom is dirty and you have to press the sink faucet all the time or no water will flow. This property is in need of serious renovations. Staff are the least bit helpful and act very indifferent. Price is steep for the overall awful service and amenities. Stay away if you can help it.The only positive thing is the propertys proximity to Central Park and the subway.
I was here last year and honestly this hostel was the downfall of my trip. Was unfortunately placed in the fourth floor where there were no elevators; it could get really annoying and exhausting after a long day of exploring in the city. Since I went in late October, the room was so cold, my roommates and I were freezing... they only offered this extremely questionable and wobbly heater, and we were surprised we didnt cause a fire 😐 Bathroom was just disgusting, I didnt bother using it anymore after the first night. Wifi was weak most of the time, but at least they provided a breakfast voucher to this shop nearby which included a bagel, fruit and I think also a drink. Will I be coming back? No. Do I recommend this place? Eh, if youre a person on a budget and dont care about these things!
Amazing hostel for its price. You get to meet alot of international fellows and make life long friendships and connections. Its a happening place and different events are always happening on the premises. The neighbourhood is safe and clean with lots of options for food or other stuff
Its a hostel, you get what you pay for. Everything is a little dirty and a little inconvenient, but the staff is organized and theres WiFi and the showers are functional, and thats all I can really ask for. The location is a little farther north than Id like, but its super close to the 103 subway station so its easy to get to.
After speaking with the manager was supposed to get a refund for two days and instead he only returns my money for one day and offers me a free night during my next visit. So I try to talk to him and give a friendly reminder of what he told me via e-mail and verbally and he basically turns it into an argument, and starts yelling at me over the phone. In general their staff is very bad, the only that is exemplary is the British lady. I am reporting them to the Better Bureau Bussiness and also any other federal service for incidents such as these. I’ve stayed in a number of hotels, in NYC Boston and London and apart one other hostel in NYC that is great. Blue Moon Hotel is so much better than this. Jazz on the Park deserves better leadership and the staff need proper training
A peaceful, disciplined and clean hostel, nice for stay just next to the iconic central park of Manhattan. It has 24×7 vending machine for snacks and beverages, a central sitting area and good speed internet as complimentary. You can enjoy its proximity to central park. Its a 5 story hostel with many options for living. It is usually full, he can make sure you book it in advance. If you are here on weekends, you may witness youthful events in the lobby such as standing comedy hours. The staff here is quite helpful and a great sense of responsibility to neibourhood is observed here. No liquor or smoking is permitted on the premises. No hangouts in front of the entrance is permitted. That makes it secured and well to stay.
Okayish Hostel: good Location but a bit expensive for what you get. Disclaimer: Im a European and in Europe hostel are way better and more affordable with breakfast included. But I guess that from an American perspective this hostel is not bad, and as its name suggests it, it is super close to Central Park.
Terrible mattress in two different rooms that Ive stayed, the maintenance is not good, the hostel conditions are awful, the internet just work at the lobby and it is veryyyy slooooow, you have to pay for everything there, the indoor temperature is crazy, sometimes too cold, sometimes too hot. I have to wait the attendant for 50 minutes to checking out. the bath is also uncomfortable, the location is OK, but for the price it didnt worth. you can find better places to stay for the same price. the worst hostel that Ive stayed.
All around excellent experience. Check-in was quick and simple, dorms were simple and clean, guests and staff were extremely friendly, and the location was super convenient. For the $30 or so per night, it was an excellent way to stay in New York without breaking the bank.
Wooooow definitely not what i expected, woooow this pictures are definitely not what the Hostal looks like, it is so sad thr fact that i didnt have the chance to take pictures, but honestly this place is horrible! the pictures are definitely not what this place shows, this pictures are old, the lobby and the leaving room are very Deteriorated. There no cafeteria, It looks sad and destroyed, rooms are very plain, beds dont have any dicen blankets.
Shittiest hostel I’ve ever stayed at. At least 3x the cost a night out of any other hostel I’ve ever stayed at, the room was extremely hot and uncomfortable to sleep, I had to wait 30mins to get checked in because they were busy talking, and then they forgot to give me a towel and I had to wait 10mins because they made me wait till they finished their conversation. No one was friendly or wanted to talk, no utilities provided, and very unclean. THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE OUTLETS IN THE ROOMS
I enjoyed my stay here from Feb 16 to 18. This place is excellent. Everything is clean. The bunks are nice and sheets and towel are clean. The place has a lot of common space and gives free breakfast and Internet access. The staff is extremely welcoming, helpful and certainly customer service driven, specially SERGIO.
Pretty average hostel. The rooms have heating during winter which is really cosy, plenty of room in our 2 bed dorm (we had a couch which could of easily been another bunk bed and lowered the price??) No elevators or breakfast. Shower is abit small and toilets are mediocre. Ive just been travelling south america and have stayed in better places than this for a fraction of the price, but for upper west side of manhatten its pretty good. Ok for a few nights, long term stay in a cheaper hostel in Queens thats half the price with better facilities.
Worst hostel experience so far. Staff is just not courteous and very rude. They have no elevators and 4 floors. No security for storing luggage next to the reception. They gave me keys to a couples 2 bed dorm room..it was embarrassing to enter there room and wondering how bad they must have felt cos the receptionist didnt know that room was taken.not recommended at all.
Don’t book this place. the worst experience ever ever.. staff absolutely id...iots, looking creepyThe heating pipes were making a super high noise. i didn’t sleep at all.they put me on 4th floor and you have to pass rooftop. no toilets or bath on 4th floor.i wish i can give them 0 star..
So making a reservation for 1 room 2 beds, does NOT guarantee thats what you will get. My fiance and I were told when we arrived (after waiting 20mins for the shift to switch over?) that because we didnt call immediately after placing and paying for the reservation online, that its first come first serve. We were each placed in another room with a stranger (I know how hostels work, but my email confirmation told me 1 room, 2 beds...thats not what we were given)I immediately called around and got another room at a days in (way better, not that much more expensive for 2 honestly) and went to the hostels front desk to get my money back since I was leaving. They made sure to make me feel like it was my fault, and told me thats how all hostels are. I have stayed in many hostels. I get the concept. They did finally give me my money back, but Im waiting for it to show on my bank statement still. Hopefully it will.Oh yes, if you select online what time you are planning to arrive, it doesnt change their check in time which is 3pm. So dont bother with that. The 1 nice thing I can say, is that they held our luggage for us behind the counter until 3pm while we walked around.Oh. and there is no wifi in the rooms. So have fun with that :)
Of all the 20+ hostels Ive stayed in, in 10 different countries, this was the worst. Its dirty, dilapidated, and the staff are distracted and not helpful. The mattresses are terrible - feels like sleeping on bare springs. There were exactly three places to plug in an electronic item in our room for 6 people. One was broken, another was on the ceiling. The location will make you tempted to stay here -- dont.
The fire department came and evicted everyone from Jazz Times Sq while I was there. They cut all the locks off the lockers and threw everyones things in the bag room. Left me stranded in NYC with no place to stayBeyond that it was a dull, dingy place and the beds were terrible. No elevator. Small bathrooms.I guess thats what hostels are like.Overall not a good experience for me.
The price is good, you are just going to get your bed and a towel and dont expect wifi in your room or a very nice service...The place is big, the restrooms could be cleaner and showers too.Near to subway station, but it is going to take you around one hour if you want to go walking to downtown.
I was taking our high school drama guild on its first trip outside of Boston. We chose the Jazz on the Park because of its affordability and its school-friendly marketing. When we checked in our party was missing a student. The front desk associate released our bed without my asking. Then they assigned a stranger to a room filled with minors in which we had reserved (and paid) for all the beds. Initially, the associate lied and said they were sold out and could not put this person anywhere else. When we asked a second time they relented and put them in another room. This then happened 2 more times with 2 more people. Let me be clear: We had reserved and paid for all 6 beds in the room because children were sleeping there. The hotel staff repeatedly gave room keys to adults to enter that room. My co-chaperone and I received frantic phone calls and texts from our students each time this happened. No one attempted to make this right or talked to us about it. If you are a school group: dont stay here. If you are a person: dont stay here.
The price its not bad but their central heaters dont work that good, it was extremely hot and needed to have both heater and AC on. The help in the front door was OK, kind of cold and no decoration whatsoever, really plane. The area isnt that cool either. Far away from all the cool stuff in NYC.
The worst experience ever! I booked and payed by internet with my credit card since one week ago, and when finally got there, they wanted to charge me again! They said they didn’t receive the money, but I have all the proofs of payment, I have the pictures of my credit card account and also the ticket that they send me to my email! This is crazy! They don’t care and they said that is my problem... the worst costumer service ever!! I definitely don’t recommend this awful place at all!!!
This is not the place to go if you want comfort. The ad that Expedia publishes is false. Jazzes website is false. It does not look like that. You do not stay where the ad says you stay. It is a old warehouse building in a rundown part of the city. Hate I had to sacrifice one star for this. Glad I have a doctors appointment this week. Maybe there is a shot I can get. If you are young on an extreme budget, maybe. Probably geared for the homeless as well.
The worst place I have ever stayed in my whole life, you have to spend so much money to do things out of the hostel ( breakfast, water, beer and soda) that it becomes more expensive than a Hotel. No hot water at night in the showers and people at front desk just tell you to go take shower somewhere else. The lady who works at front desk during the afternoon is probably the most rude person that I have ever met! The mattress is completely uncomfortable. They dont sell even a bottle of water at the front desk and when you check in they tell you you are no allowed to take anything into your room, so yes, if you need water in you room at night be ready to be thirsty!! So...please! Dont stay in this place! It is really bad!
The hostel was average, next to central park. One of the main flaws it had is that the wifi was only available in the common room. Maybe if your room is not far from it, you can get some, but it mostly work there. Standard service and the room was ok. The bed was not the most comfortable, but I could sleep.
Paid for a family room and they didnt have one available when i arrived. So, they sent me to a small, smelly and Cables hanging all over the room. Went to complain with the front desk and they got me a room in a different location..I asked for my money back and they refunded my card 5 days later but the surprise came later.. They put the charge back on my card.. i file a claim on my bank to get my money back..i arrived on a different location that they told me to go and everything so far was nice untill the next day.. The second day at the hotel they remove my stuff clothes, laptop, ipad and other things to a different room without letting me know.. Hope it can help with your decision!
Okay I know this hostel is in New York but Ive got to say that the price is high and it shoudnt be like that because it is not located in downtown Manhattan is a little far. Also the service ia awful, I hated when the receptionist said if you lost the key you will pay 15 usd . The rooms are sooooooo tiny. Queens and Brooklyn have better service and prices, never will stay here again.
Comfortable, friendly, no nonsense but still so very helpful with the lovely bilingual Jose on reception to help in either English or Spanish. Such a beautiful spot in Manhattans Upper West Side surrounded by beautiful apartments and opposite Central Park West. Gloriously located and welcoming and informative with lots of help when needed. N.B. No lift but the kind Jose helped a traveller up to the top floor with her belongings! What a stand up guy!
So when I checked in the staff was really friendly. Though the guy wouldnt listen when I tried to tell him something (that my bags are there) i was surprised I got walked to and shown the room. It was late at night and being so tired I just knocked out. The next morning I woke up freezing. The A/C was working all night!! nobody told me. In other parts of the world in cold december we dont have the A/C on, so how should I know?!? well I got the worst cold ever now and am really sick. I tried talking to the staff twice this evening and unfortunately the female staff were not helping st all or anything. In particular Nataliya did not properly understand me (language barrier?) and had a weird attitude. Not helpful at all. Or apologizing! So disappointed. The showers and restrooms meanwhile are superhot, which is not very comfortable either. No privacy and no soap by the restroom 1st floor. There comes so much cold wind through the windows (even though they are closed) that its no wonder I got so ill, plus the A/C. The provided blanket is a cheap summer blanked, totally not made for NYC-winters.
Second time staying here, first time during winter was alright, return in summer and its triple as expensive, they gotten rid of their public wifi and you now have to pay extra on top of the already expensive price.Sheets are plastic and the beds are just as noisy as the sheets, no elevator, average breakfast and uninterested staffComplete money hogs, would go the extra block or two and stay at hosteling international
The Hostel is next to the Central Park. In the near you find to metro stations. Just 2 min to walk to the station. The Hostel is okay for the low price bit not the best. In the rooms are regilar beds and cabinet where you can close up your lagage. The rooms are clean but old. In my bed i found little animals so ot was not funny.Pros: cheap, next to two metro stations, shops in the near, central park, staff is speaking english and spainContras: not clean bedFor this price it is a nice hostel.
I wouldnt recommend it unless you are paying a very low rate. The bathroom door didnt lock, the room door didnt lock. Theres no privacy in the bathroom at all - the shower curtain didnt even cover the stall. The toilet paper broke apart as you pulled it off the reel. Bags cost $5 to store.
They dont accept people with ID from the tri state area, so either have a different ID or dont go their at all. The booking email mentions it in tiny tiny text. They wont make an exception - I got stranded and had to drive all night beacuse they just wouldnt budge.Their location is nice though!
I loved staying at Jazz On The Park! It has a cozy living room so you can interact with people from all around the world. Also they have a comedian show in the basement twice a week. And the staff (or was it the regulars?) organize party nights: they invite to show around to clubs in NY, which is pretty useful when its your first time in NYC.
They gave our room key to someone else, and let them.walk into our room im the middle of the night (woke us up) because they made a mistake on out reservation..The floor isnt clean at all, it looks dirty and disgusting, just like the bathrooms, showers and staircases.. definetly dissapointed of our stay in this place..
Justa the perfect place plus KARINA and NATALIA just amazing always ready to help from direction and the right way to move around time, I was there from Dec7-12 that’s actually today just left literally lol and it felt like i was at home 🏡 ♥️with my family and being my first time in NYC it was just fabulous knowing that they had my back specially traveling by my self the rooms are grate and before I finish ALEX another STAFF member just like I had a new brother Totally coming back for the city and the great service 👌

2022-05-25Room was clean and they gave me fresh sheets and pillow cases. However the dormitory rooms are smaller than I expected with the bunk beds right next to each other. This is what one gets for choosing one of the cheaper hostels to stay in.It may not be really safe during COVID to sleep so close next to strangers. We do not know who is vaccinated or not.Staff are okay, nice.

2022-05-10Even though this place is at the hear Manhattan and Central Park with everything you need. The service at this hostel is unacceptable. When I got to this place on the 4th floor, I noticed that the bed wasnt made so guy told me I can use the other empty bed. I said that was fine since assumed they were busy but it turns out the other guy in the room was told the same thing. The strange part was that the person who previous left the bed checked out of the hostel around 6:30 AM in the morning. 41/2 hours before check out! And I didnt get to this place until 8 pm and made reservations last night until 10 pm. So in practice they had over 12 hours to get this place ready and they didnt. Worse yet, trash in the room is not taken out and they dont provide blankets, towels, or even breakfast. Bathrooms are dirty as well. Please anyone if you ever come to NYC try not book this place until they start improving these conditions.

2022-06-09This place is fine if you dont care about sanitation, like at all. We booked a private room and we arrived to a room with two stripped beds, no sheets, no pillowcases, no blankets, only the bare mattress covers. Went to the front desk and was given one flat sheet and two pillow cases, no fitted sheet and no blanket. The floor was filthy, and there was trash under the bed.

2022-07-01Is a reliable and secure place for sleeping when passing by this beautiful city. Rooms are small but enough to accommodate two travelers. Bathrooms are a common area. Outside the building you can find a citibike station so that’s a plus. Cheap, clean and comfy.

2022-04-04Disgusting and if you think it wont be when you arrive youre wrong.Toilet backed up. Showers STINK. Sometimes no heat and you will have to go downstairs every single day about your key because it wont work continuously which is something they purposely do. Not every side of the room I was in had an outlet which sucked. I also was in a all female dorm and the girl had her boyfriend in the first day I came. If you like to live like a slob then this is the place for you. I also never received back my $61.21¢ overcharge because they dont respond to emails or phone calls so I wouldnt advise changing your arrival date.

2022-04-08Be kind to yourself, dont stay at this place. This place is terrible. The key card stops working everyday so you have to go all the way downstairs to change your card and then back so you can enter your room. There is NO WIFI in the rooms. NO ELECTRICITY either, the lights go off in the middle of the night every night, that means no heating, no phone charging, you have to go downstairs to ask them to fix it and maybe they wont do anything about it. I had no electricity in my room in the last two days of my stay. One gender restrooms at each floor.

2022-05-12I’ve personally never stayed in such a worse place. Absolutely terrible experience overall. Bed sheets weren’t clean, washrooms were very dirty (haven’t been cleaned in a long time with dirt, toilet paper and garbage all over the floor), key card stops working every day. So loud at night because the shared washroom and other peoples doors slam very loudly when closed. Management doesn’t answer emails. If you want to be able to sleep in a clean room that isn’t very loud at all times of the day, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

2022-03-18Dont.Edit: I was told this review wasnt descriptive enough, so here come the details. The place is *dirty*. As in: the walls and doors are dirty, heaters are rusty and the plaster walls are crumbling. There are signs warning that food in rooms is not allowed as it attracts rodents and roaches. Perhaps the place would have less of an infestation problem if it were cleaned sometimes? Finally, in order to have food and to use the wi-fi, you are encouraged to use the common area. It has some benches and tables, as if it were used for preparing food. Vending machines are available if you can get over the smell of rotting garbage that fills the room. The people in the reception desk are aware of this as they burn incense to try and cover up the smell. Bon appetit.Oh, and hot water didnt work for me in the shower.

2022-02-08Nice enough hostel. Amazing location. You can walk alot of places. I jogged every morning in Central Park because its right there. Very centrally located. No extra perks. The breakfast is no longer included because of Coronapocalypse but of course just like the other hotels and hostels they dont take it off thier website. They still lead you to believe they have breakfast until AFTER you book it and get there. Once I get there they said you cant even use the kitchen. They have a quite LARGE peaceful common area where you can sit and do work. The heaters are ridiculously hot. It becomes like a suana in the rooms and they say they cant turn it down so you have to open the windows. 🪟 The rooms are nice and pretty clean. There used to be a comedy show on Sunday nights? But I guess they told me its so slow theyre not doing that anymore. Also as a guest there you get a 10% discount at the chicken place right up the street. I regret not taking advantage of that because the place looked so good. All in all Id say its a really good location and its got to be 1 of the best places to stay if sightseeing in NYC. Also Ive stayed at ALOT of hostels; some of them can be very noisy. This one seemed kind of quiet and peaceful. There wasnt alot of extreme commotion going on. The staff was really nice too.
