JHU Comic Books in other cities:
Great customer service! Lots of hard to find silver age comics. Recently met comic book legends Greg Pak and Dan Slott there. Bought Deadpools 2nd appearance (X-Force # 2) for the low price of $20, whaaaaaaat? Thats bonkers!!!! They have cool D&D stuff and lots of Manga and New titles from all the indie & majors. Their back issue collection is great. I cant say enough about how cool this store is. Check them out. Shout to Nick, Ron, Gore, Gutz, Frank and the whole JHU staff.
This place is a little small but its a very good location its next to a bus stop and a movie theater is close by so after you watch a superhero flick, come and read more about that hero, the staff is very welcoming and helpful and its prices are fair. I will definitely come back and they also have bags and boards
Just came back from an event. Met Ethan Sacks writer of the new comic Intrusion. A great place for comics, videos, games and too many items to name. Nick is very knowledgeable and can answer any questions you have. Located at 481 3rd Avenue. Masks worn and social distancing. A real find in Kips Bay. So much to see. A great place for gifts!
I recently got back into comics after a long hiatus. Luckily, JHU Comic Books is just a few blocks away from my office. They have tons of titles, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and great service. If you live or work in the neighborhood, it should be your go-to spot to fill your comic fix, and even if you dont, they make it easy to get your weekly pulls in the mail. Highly recommended!
I am customer of JHU for several years and love shopping for the comic and graphic novels. They have classic comics back in 70s, 80s and 90s for a low cost which I am very surprise to see in a comic book store. The staff members are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with comic related items and make you feel comfortable going there to shop. I also like that they have a lot of comic book authors and artist stop by and sign their latest issue of their comic they are working on. Even though the store is smaller in this location than their previous location but the staff members are still same and I like it.Keep up the good work and see you soon!
Great selection of Dark Horse, moreso than the other two stores I checked out while visiting even though JHU Comics was the smallest out of all three. I went two days in a row and the same guy was working- and he is absolutely one of the nicest people you could ever meet. My kiddo is an eccentric little dude and quite the talker, and this guy did so much to make us feel welcome and to engage with my kid.
Ive been coming here when it used to be in its old location near Empire State Building and its current location. What stands out to me about this store is the staff, they are genuinely friendly and super helpful in selecting a comic they recommend, give you humorous conversations at the cash register, and also provide assistance when I cant find the comic book I want. When I come here, I never leave without buying something.
This is my favorite comic book store in New York City. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, the location itself is very nice and you can browse without feeling them looking sideways at you to make sure you’re not stealing anything. (You don’t have to check your bag like you do at Saint Mark’s Comics which to be fair has a smaller and more cramped store so it’s easy to steal something there.)
Why is no one saying that JHUs staff can and will reserve variant covers or any special issues you are looking for (current in production comics only). They can special order props, masks, or any superherobilia that you ask them about. Talk to the staff. I date from the days of Golden Age Larry and writer Vito Delsant´e. Been a customer since 1986, when they where in the Manhattan Mall, the former Gimbels Department store.Update: came here on 03-23-2021. Staff was very helpful using the computer to find what I was looking for!
Great selection of books. City lights and this place are my go-to spots to browse new and old books. They carry a diverse range of topics and all the latest releases in both fiction and creative nonfiction. If you live in NY, add to your list when you desire new books to read.
The best comic book store in NYC. You really feel like its all about the bike and the fans here. There are dinner toys and collectibles, but thats not what you find here for. There is a huge selection of alterative comics and comics-related literature here.I really miss the last hours. Closing at 9pm is fine, but I really liked coming here when they were open super late.
Ah the collection!! This was at the end of marvel/dc walking tour and this was a perfect way to end it. Got myself a copy of Marvel Eternals. They also have classic comics, early editions of many super hero comics. The guy at the counter was very knowledgable and helpful. Would totally recommend this place for your inner creative.
I purchased boards and bags last June at JHU. The cost was a little bit higher compared to other retailers but the location was very convenient. I returned two weeks later, the first week of July, to purchase additional boards and bags but they had none in stock. I went back the following week and they still had none in stock. I returned once again in early August only to discover that they were still out of stock. Thankfully there are several comic book stores in Manhattan and those stores are well stocked with basic comic supplies.I returned to JHU about 2 weeks ago to buy more comic book boards since the owner responded to my original review stating they currently had bags and boards and once again, to my disappointment, they were out of stock of the size I needed. I ended up purchasing a pack of 100 boards anyway for $12. I figured I could use them in the future. The following day I went to another comic book retailer and bought the correct size boards, 100 boards only cost $8 and change. Im standing by my original 1 star review for JHU. They are out of stock and over priced.
A great store that really packs a lot into a modest space. The emphasis here is on the books: floppies from the big publishers are backed up by a surprising number of deluxe editions and trades, as well as a solid indie selection. Add in the very friendly and knowledgable staff, and this place should be the go-to for your weekly comics fix.

2022-03-17I stumbled upon this little hidden gem the other day. What a great comic shop! Clean, organized, well laid out. They packed so much into their small space, but it doesnt feel crammed! They have tons of comics and collectibles, and the youg man who was working that day was very knowledgeable, passionate, and helpful. I usually check out Midtown or Forbidden Planet when Im in NYC, but I will def go back to JHU!

2022-07-06Very friendly staff service. Prices inflated several times if you are a connoisseur and know the prices of comic books. However, as for NY, the prices are similar. I highly recommend!

2021-08-08Awesome! Great prices, good selection of comics, and very nice staff. They have a lot of different comics, some Funko Pop, and some TCG like Pokemon/Magic. It’s a small shop but there’s a lot in there and it’s fun to look through everything. The prices are better than what you can find online and we found some awesome deals. The guy behind the counter was super nice and gave a discount cause we bought so much. Will definitely be back and highly suggest coming here.

2022-02-25Nice little comic store, not much in the way of back issues but stupendous selection of graphic novels. Both new prints and some that have been hanging around for a while(which is nice if you are looking to fill in a few gaps which have become hard to find) Reasonable prices and knowledgable, helpful, chatty staff also a plus. Highly recommended, would go back!It is a little set back and below street level so it does not have great visibility from the street especially across the the road but when you get close it is easy enough to find.
