I dont know why people think this place is so great. I recently went in to get a slice to try it out, I go outside and theres no cheese on it and the crust was thin and falling apart. I go back in to exchange the slice and recieved another one exa try the same. Maybe because the whole place was run by teenagers who didnt seem to give a zhit. I just have to add that the pizza I had did not look like any of the pictures posted.
I bring out of towners here since they have seating and a real restaurant vibe and they say It’s the best pizza they’ve ever had. I’m local so I’d call it the best intro to NYC pizza. Difara beats this in my opinion on the plain pie but this place would have to be the best tri-dye I’ve ever had.
Wow! If you like thin crust pizza then this place is for you. Easy to see right off of 1st Avenue servicing the Lower East side and the adjoining areas of Manhattan. Parking on the Street is available but it fills up fast especially at night and on the weekends. Moderately clean facilities. Nice small bar. Ceasar Salad, fried calamari, and Spaghetti are great. The pizza is the star. Nice staff. My water glass was visibly dirty, but our server did exchange it. I had to ask for new plates when the pizza came out. Soda is not all you can drink. New York City prices so bring your credit cards. We will definitely be going back.
So I heard about this famous pizza establishment from Staten Island coming to the city. I was quite excited to try it. For appetizer I ordered the Bruschetta. I found it to be less than mediocre. There wasnt enough flavor. The tomatoes were not finely chopped & the bread was too hard. Lets get to the main event.....the pizza. I ordered the tri-pie (tomato sauce, vodka sauce & pesto sauce). The crust was very thin & had a nice crisp yet still airy. The sauces were good & ingredients tasted fresh. I got onions & garlic as toppings. I love raw onions on my pizza. The pizza had carmelized onions (not listed on the menu). I was a bit annoyed with that (due to the sweetness of the onions), but pizza still tasted good. Service was good & we were seated in the outside area. I will come back & try a regular margherita to see the flavor of the tomato sauce alone. One thing I will add is that even for the city the price is quite high. $28 average price for a large pizza is a bit much. It should be organic with that price. Overall though it was worth the visit.
Be careful. this restarant is cheating on customer . they said pay cash and save. It looks like they give discount if i pay by cash. but its not.Our total price was 58$ without tax. But they charge 2.32$ more. we asked about it. And she said its card transaction fee. What the hell kind restaurants do charge card fee to customer? They even pretend that no paying card fee is discount. well . Its small money as per order.. but imagine! all of customers orders for many years..they are getting unfair advantage. This restarant treats customers as fool. She said its our system.. omg.. they should learn what honest is.
Suuuper disappointed. Was excited to try the vegan pizza and was told I couldn’t order delivery directly and had to use a 3rd party so I did that. When the 12” vegan pizza arrived it was actually 10” which may not seem like a big deal but it was a $25 pizza!!! And it wasn’t enough to fill up a person. Also the cheese was super skimpy. The non-vegan pizza was fine. Nothing insanely specially but good.
I went for lunch a couple of months after it opened with a co worker and there was one other customer in the place. We put in our order and 20 minutes later the waitress said she forgot to out the order in. EPIC FAIL. We left obviously. The place looks great, but how do you forget to put an order in. The meatballs looked delicious too. Updated 9/27/19 - tried Joe & Pats again and had a much better experience. The service, meatballs and pizza were all very good this time. This place is pricey, but the quality of food is really high and fresh.
I really loved this spot. It was such a nice sit-down pizzeria. I was seated in their outdoor backspace, which was pretty. The service was great. I was with a big group and they allowed us the time to look through the menu which had quite a number of options. They provided quick service and was great at checking in with us.The food was good. I was in the mood for a slice and it was great. I started eating as soon as it arrived at the table. Overall, would recommend especially as a social dining spot.
We visited Joe and Pat’s on a whim. Looked cool from the outside and it definitely did not disappoint! Maggie was our server and she was very sweet!! The pizza was delish! Thin crust with a ton of flavor! The seasons served added so much flavor!! Thanks from San Antonio, Texas!! 😊
If you love thin crust, this is a must try. Dont have too many places that I usually tell my friends to try but this is definitely one of them. The calamari batter is so crunchy and fluff yet light on the same bite, its amazingly addictive. Arrive early before the wait begins!
Came for the tri-pie and it did not disappoint. The three flavors work well together which I did not expect, but now Im a believer. Also had a pepperoni pie and it was delicious. Love the thin crust on both, but it makes it easy to eat a lot (first world problems). Service was great so well be back soon. Cant wait til they start delivery.
Joe & Pats was highly recommended. The plus’s 4+ were the pizza, salad, pasta, and atmosphere. The service was a 2 at best. The significant lack of any attention to the tables needs, beverages, plates, and removing empty plates ruined the experience. One of the pizza’s was over 30 minutes after the other pies and the disingenuous “we’re sorry” is really not a acceptable. Albeit a $244 meal, we respectfully still gave a 20% tip with the hope that the restaurant reads this and improves service for others.
We went at the busiest time, had to wait an hour because we had kids and couldnt sit at the bar. Food was excellent. Price a little high but normal for this type of restaurant. We ordered the Original Pizza, the House salad, Broccoli, and procuitto with blue cheese as appetizer. With drinks it came to about a hundred dollars. Might go again with reservations.
The pizza is outstanding, but WARNING, If you order delivery, do not expect to have any alterations/instructions, as minor as they may be, adhered to. The past three times we have gotten delivery, the food has come incorrect. For example, we asked for no olives in the salad (because olives suck!) and a different dressing --- came with olives and wrong dressing. We asked to sub shrimp for chicken (pescatarian) -- came with chicken. Most frustrating part is that on the most recent order, after having a couple bad experiences in a row, we actually called the restaurant after placing the Seamless order to talk to a real human to tell them to be on the lookout for our minor alterations. They said absolutely they would be. Welp, that didnt help. If you are allergic or are generally not fond of certain ingredients, dont expect that to matter here. The staff isnt meticulous. Pizza is great, but overall the restaurant has become a pass for us. Off the list!
The place is usually full so try to reserve a table before you arrive. The staff is really friendly and helpful with recommendations. We had the tri pie which has vodka sauce, marinara and pesto topped with mozzarella. Thin crust and fulfilling.. Although this is the sister location (main is at Staten Island), the restaurant lives up to its name.. Cool wall art..!!
This wouldve been a higher rating, but the service was lacking. Pizza was great, but there was some sort of miscommunication where our order wasnt put in. Waited a good 30 mins for the pizza. The bartender kinda came to the rescue and offered some complimentary rice balls. In fact, the bartender seemed to be holding the entire operation together. 5 stars for him.
The excellent service as well as our delicious meals were enjoyed by our party of seven. The wide variety of menu selections made choosing “just one” a bit challenging but in a good way. The very pleasant result was lots of sharing and plates being passed around so we all could have a taste. We ordered a pizza to share as our appetizer. The thin crust pizza was delicious. When our meals were served they were fresh out of the ovens and very generous portions. The pasta Alfredo was a favorite. My only suggestion if you choose the calzone is that you consider adding a meat to it. The only cheese option tasted a bit bland. Attentive service, delicious food and an impressive bar made for a wonderful meal for all.
Joe & Pats wins one of the citys best pizza pies, yes - but theres more. The pizza is the perfect NY weight, sturdy enough to hold just the right amount of flavor & topping, not too heavy, but completely satisfying. If you ordered a pizza from here, youd be more than happy to settle in & youd likely call & order again & again. However, a better bet is to visit - the restaurant itself is a nice surprise - mix of a real bar without the rowdy atmosphere, but a bustling one - smack dab in the middle of an unassuming, solid Italian restaurant - no frills, but all the right finds. Down to the french fries, this place will not disappoint.
Very good pizza spot in recent addition to our local overabundance. The cauliflower crust is actually very nice and would recommend. Have stopped in during the early evening to pick up pies and have not noticed it very crowded, but expect they have a crowd later in the evening and weekends since has a full bar. Staff have always been nice and service pretty prompt. My only reservation would be the sauce is a bit bland.
OMG, Joe & Pats is one of the best restaurants on this God green 💚 earth! 🌍 Amen🙏🏽💯🥂The staff is amazingly friendly and courteous and the food, well, its spectacularly delicious!!!😋😍 The pizza 🍕 is a work of art for your mouth and I had the best chicken parmesan sandwich I have ever had in my life, hands down!! Bravo to the chefs for making such wonderful food! ILL BE BACK🥳🌠
If I could give this place six stars,I would. We got take-out from here tonight and were completely blown away by how amazing the food was, and even moreso by how incredible the entire staff was. They went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating and made our entire night. To be honest they are the kind of people that are so great that you’d want to eat their food if it was cardboard, but it turned out to be some of the very best pizza and Italian food in the city. Definitely our new favorite. Thin, crispy crust, all fresh ingredients, just perfect. I would have taken pictures of the food, but we devoured it almost instantly. Can’t wait to go back again and again. Thank you!!!!
Wonderful pizzas, very clean, light and tasty with a thin crust. The location is central, the space is cozy and cute, with an old time feel to it. The music is fantastic mix of oldies but goodies, think Beatles. Staff are cordial, sweet and attentive and the owner is also genuinely kind. Will come back for the pizza.
Our familys new go-to sit down pizza place. On our first visit we had a margarita pizza and a red ricotta pizza. Red ricotta was a little off-balance, which I think had to do with trying to properly handle both cheeses, but the ingredients are great, the crust was excellent, and the with the margarita pizza it all came together. They were also great about our kids. Later I came back and got the lasagna, which I quite enjoyed as well.
I loved this place. First hour in NYC and our waitress was really nice. She gave us some suggestions on food and didnt rush us. It is a little pricey for a small portion pizza but it tasted so good so it was worth the price. (we got the shrimp scampi pizza 10 and was $26) Good service and amazing food.
If you like thin crispy pizza youve come to the right place. I was never really a fan of this style, I like my pizza with a bit of flop. However I enjoyed this one. The sauce was perfect and nice tasting dough. I only tried the margarita pizza but I wouldnt mind trying some of the other next time.
Joe and Pats is hands down top 3 in the city. But that comes with a disclaimer. It is much, much better at the restaurant. They make really thin crust pizzas with incredible sauces, but that means they aren’t great for delivery.Seriously...come here. Eat their pizza. Thank me later.
In all honesty I was really disappointed in the food here. My fiance and I have been eager to try their food because we have heard great things about it. It may be the best on Staten Island, but it is not the best pizza in the East Village let alone NYC. A 16 inch pie was $42... The prices on their Staten Island menu are completely different from the East Village location. This is a glorified slice place at best. The crust had no taste, the meats and veggies on the pizza are just generic. Theres plenty of other better pizza spots in the East Village like Strombolis for a slice and Motorino for amazing pizza.
NY pizza is almost an institution as everyone knows, and you will probably be good with any pizza you have in the city. However, this place is probably the best justification for the level of quality and tradition pizza has here. I would say go there and eat your pizza with hands (wash them well thou, specially at times of corona vírus haha). This is a crunchy and juicy experience at the same time and you’ll love it. If you like, have a Negroni too, which is prepared by the classics recipe. Note they don’t accept reservations, evenings are always crowded and going there for lunch will be the easiest way to get to taste it.
Phenomenal pepperoni pizza - the crust here is especially good and nice and thin. Definitely among the top in New York, if you like your crust nice and thin.Recommendation - dont go crazy on the vegetable toppings, that could make the crust soggier since its so nice and thin.
Sauce is the most fresh tomatoes, amazing consistency. Crust is light and crispy as well, really A++ pizza. They have amazing broccoli and garlic oil dish + try the meat and cheese platter. These guys must get their cheese from Italy, it’s mind blowing. Been here numerous times, good vibes too.
Thanks to Google Maps, I have saved this place. We actually went y Dan and Jones however it was closed for renovations. We were just wandering around and on seeing the name, I went back to my saved places to verify if this restaurant was in my list. And what a lucky accident it was. We ordered the classic 1960 pizza and requested breaded chicken topping, although it was not in the menu. Our generous and delightful hostess was more than glad to oblige. This pizza was in my opinion the best pizza I have ever had in NYC. I have been to Lucali and DeFara and thoroughly enjoyed their pizza, however this was even more fun. We also had buffalo chicken wings, which were superb as well.It was truely a wonderful experience. We got to meet the owner as well. We will definitely frequent the restaurant.
Ordered through Caviar so hard to tell the level of responsibility on Joe and Pat’s but we were missing half of our order, a whole 16” pizza, which Caviar blamed on your establishment. Had a horrible time trying to get the pizza refunded and the pizza we did receive was freezing cold. I strongly would ask you use another app likes DoorDash or Ubereats that I’ve never had an issue with either with the delivery or the support. This reflects horribly on Joe and Pat’s
Went here yesterday. Sat at the bar and ordered two drinks and a regular cheese pie right away since we had to meet friends for the Derby. 45 minutes went by no pizza. Bartender told us twice the pizza was coming it never came. People ordered take out got their food before us, people who sat down after us finished their food and paid before we got our pizza. Eventually I couldnt take it anymore I went to the hostess and asked what the hell was going on and how they could forget about us like that. They apologized and tried to make us wait longer, we got up and left. Pathetic service and lack of attention. For a place that has a great reputation on Staten Island to have such GARBAGE AND DISRESPECTFUL service in New York City is a shame. Ill never return to this location again. Shame on the staff here for sullying the name of Joe and Pats.
There is some really solid pizza here. I am admittedly not the biggest thin crust pizza fan, but if youre going to do it, this is how you do it. Much better and more memorable than Martina. The clam pie is a thing of beauty - so much clam flavor... and so much garlic. The sausage broccoli rabe pie was ok - assertively broccoli rabe, less so on the sausage. The wine here is pretty mediocre, but thats not why youre here. Id happily return for another clam pie anytime.
Update - 9/24Tried them again tonight after I heard they got better since opening. Ordered ravioli for delivery and was given a bowl of Penne. Called them and said thats not how the order came through on their end. So I suppose I paid $18 for a bowl of just Penne pasta... odd..Original Review - 5/24Tried once, wont go back. Stopped in for lunch with some coworkers. Place was nearly empty in middle of lunch rush. Ordered a calzone and everyone else ordered pizza. Their food all came out fairly quick, but my calzone was nowhere in site. Server said it usually takes a bit longer (which would have been nice to mention when I ordered it) but should only be another few minutes. That stretched into about a 12 minute wait, at which point everyone else at the table had finished their food. I opted to just get it to go and eat it back at my desk. Calzone was underwhelming - although it appears rather large it doesnt have as much filling as youd expect. The ricotta had completely melted into a liquid and immediately spilled everywhere when I cut it open. The dough had good flavor and dipping sauce was tasty. However, I paid $4 extra to have pepperoni and sausage, yet there was very little inside. This is NYC. There are great pizza places on every single corner. This place wont last more than a few months if this keeps up.
Poor experience! I called in while walking there and the hostess told me it would be about 30 minutes for a table for two. We arrived ten minutes after I hung up and the host (idk if it was the same woman) rudely told me she had no tables for at least two hours and she has no idea why I was told that on the phone (though she was aware I was told that). I get that mistakes are made, but the way she handled it was incredibly off-putting. She made us feel like we were the problem. Its unfortunate because I had heard great things about this place and was excited to try it on this trip.
Saw the barstool review on this place (which I HIGHLY recommend to watch on YouTube). They judged the pizza a 9... but honestly wasn’t even close to my favorite pizza stand in manhattan. Sorry Joe and Pat! Great service, just had too much hype beforehand. Also got pasta and the sauce was a bit cheap/ can feeling. (Which I know is insulting for an Italian but what can i say, it is what it is)
Went for lunch today . we were the first customers. Plenty of employees standing around no greeting at front door at all.. Food was overpriced and took forever even though we were only couple in the restaurant. Pizza margarita and rice balls were bland and nothing special. No condiments on table.. After waiting 40 minutes for our chicken parmesan we told them to cancel it and got the check . There are too many better places to eat . This place wont last .
- Original Pizza 1960s - Very good. Sauce has a nice balance of acid and only lightly sweet. Good sauce to cheese ratio and real mozz. Good quality spices served in dishes on the side - grated Parmesan, chili flake, basil, and garlic powder is strong.- Lasagna - meat and ricotta. Sauce is slightly on sweeter side. Only mozz on top. Done nicely. I prefer less sweet and more mozz to ricotta though.Very good service.Music is too loud and not much in the way of sound absorption, so its difficult to hear the person across from you without shouting.
Yes, it really is all that! Self avowed pizza connoisseurs, we have traveled far and wide sampling the best of New York City pizza and yes, Joe & Pats is a star. The delicate, crisp crust is the perfect foil to the layered flavors--each distinct and in perfect measure--to create a pie thats memorable, light and satisfying. Bravo!
I’ve been going to to the Staten Island location my whole life and the Manhattan location is just as good, if not better! Definitely more expensive but it’s manhattan what else would you expect. Was $24 for a regular pie if I remember correctly. Highly reccomend gettin pepperoni! Cupped roni game is on point!
I had 3 bad experience with this place and I will never go back there,2 times I was there I didn’t like the service at all and the owner have a bad attitude and he pretty much like a ghetto boy not a owner of pizza place and the 3rd time I ordered a take out I order pasta and found it was chiken parm

2022-04-04Excellent pizza, honestly this is the best pie Ive had since Ive been in the city. The crust, the sauce, the cheese, its all just on a higher level here. A bit pricey(NY!) But worth it as a treat when youre here. All the servers, wait staff and hosts are great here, friendly and accommodating. If youre trying to find the best New York pizza or on a pizza tour just cut the chase and come here!

2022-01-20I’ve never had a bad experience here.Thin, crispy pizzas with delicious toppings. Good beer selection. Full bar and menu of pizza isn’t your thing (not sure that’s anyone).Unbeatable happy hour pizza pricing, making it one of the best deals in town.

2022-04-17A very v homely Cozy no nonsense place on lower East side :) I am a vegetarian so they had options . Arugula salad was good , the guys loved zucchini fries and we had ordered roasted eggplant which was very okay very watery and no flavor . Then we ordered pizza white one and regular pizza with toppings of onion green pepper and olives and it was really good . Would go back for pizza for sure .give it a try if you are around

2021-08-29One of the best pizzas in NYC. YOU MUST GET IT OUT OF THE BOX ASAP. Crust is so thin that the steam makes it really floppy. As soon as I got in the car, opened the box for three minutes (seemed like an hour) and devoured the 10 original. Easily couldve gone for another. Amazing.

2021-09-11Joe & Pats is my favorite pizza spot in New York. The vodka pie is on the Mount Rushmore of New York pizza orders. The crust is thin and crispy, so you can eat a lot of it without feeling too bad. One of the only pizzas I’ve had where it gets better with each bite - it’s crispiness holds for every bite. Add a few bottles of wine with some friends, and it’s one of the better meals you can have in the city while avoiding long lines or impossible-to-get reservations. When people ask me where to go for pizza in NYC, Joe & Pats is the answer.

2022-05-29First 5 stars in a while! Pasta was so good - definitely best I’ve had in Singapore. Loved their Sicilian pizza as well as their regular one. Dessert portion was super generous as well. Didn’t try their appetizers but everything we had was just delicious. Service was also spectacular - definitely a 5 star🤩

2021-10-01The tri pie was delicious, perfect crust. I went during happy hour and they had great deals on their pizzas and drinks. Cassidy was a wonderful bartender and added to the laidback, fun atmosphere!I’ll definitely be coming back!

2021-12-24I grew up in Staten Island enjoying the original for more than 30 years. It was never hit or miss, it was consistent and the best on the Island. I was disappointed with dinner here for three reasons. First, the pizza was dry... normally the sauce isnt baked into the middle of the pie. Second, the ventilation could be better as it often smelled like the oven didnt have great exhaust...even though it was freezing out it was refreshing to get cold but fresh air in. Lastly, my mother ordered two glasses of red wine which were 15 dollars each for a California Cabernet...thats steep for a pizzaria in my view. My recommendation would still be to go and try it, maybe it they had an off night and mistakenly burnt a pizza (could have been mine). The servers did a nice job, no issues there. But if you go and want wine with your meal, be prepared to pay up, a hundred bucks for two people is a lot for a pizza thats generally pretty thin. Until then, my next Joe & Pats pie will be on the island and not the East Village.

2021-11-19Went there because it was highly recommended by barstool, on one of their funniest reviews ever. Pies were excellent, should have gotten the names of the waiter and bartender who gave us top notch service. This place is a NYC gem.
