Johnnys Cafe in other cities:
Open letter to the owner:I had a horrible experience in your restaurant today. Was called names (in Polish language) by your waitress and her friend who was eating at the bar. They thought that I wouldnt understand, but my wife is Polish and although I spoke English inside I understand Polish very well. It wasnt just rude, was downright insulting and disgusting. There was only 3 people at the restaurant, two of them and me. All because I had to stop her in her private pep-talk with her friend at the bar, a few times. After I had ask (for the fourth time) to bring the items that she was forgetting, this time the bread which was never out even I was going through the main course already she made smirk toward her friend, right in front of my face. She finally brought it out but was without spread (which comes with). After I asked for it, and before she had returned to kitchen to bring it, she made a face, at that moment did not say anything but her friend finally did. Calling me out laud the needy and a jerk. When I strongly replied to him he switched to Polish language referring to me with all type of names while she was giggling agreeingly, repeating some of his words. After I said that I do understand them she congratulated me for being bilingual!?I am 58, those kids are 25, 27, shame. When I was paying I asked her does if she understand why she did not deserve a tip.Her reply: I dont care.If you do care I am expecting that you will contact me back. Two stars, not only one since food tasted good. However, researching later about Johnnys Cafe i found about their numerous violations, mostly about the food hygiene and food protection.
This site is my number one place. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to this restaurant. everytime I I need a fair lunchon, this place comes immediately to my mind. Great and food and a large list of dishes.generous team, and great spirit. Also, the expence is good. I tell about this spot with no hesitation.
What a great find! Hadnt been to Maspeth in 20+ years and stopped in Johnnys for lunch not expecting Polish food. The food was amazing as was the service! The prices were reasonable and the restaurant is immaculately clean. My only complaint is that I dont live closer!!!! Thank you for a great meal of perogies, kilbasa and stuffed cabbage!
Waitresses - young lifeless girls who serve the customer as punishment are not nice and are completely not interested in the customer. My husband was in this restaurant with his friends some time ago, he noticed the waitress directly about her behavior and will never return there even though we live next door because of the staff. We used to go there every weekend, but now we dont even order take-out food. We dont want to go there because of bad behavior. The owner should take this into account and employ people who will be friendly with the client and not with grace and with some fools under his breath. So I demand wages ... we didnt come there for free and waitresses also dont work for free. The customer should be for employees, not an employee for the customer ...
Firm NO !!Yesterday I ate beef tartare, today I feel terrible and I spend Sundays in bed and in the bathroom. Please do not three people with such food because it may end badly for you.The tartare looked like meat on sausage ... Sorry, but thats not how it should look and taste.I hope that my comment will be noticed and treated as good advice.

2022-06-19Save your money and head to the Grosik next door for actual warm food for a much better value than this. The servers were more focused on the party in the back rather than the full set of tables of families waiting for food for nearly an hour. The food came cold, and the salmon was lukewarm and that’s being generous. The current state of Johnny’s Cafe is abysmal, and Johnny himself would never let this happen. This used to be a staple in the community bustling with families and memories.Edit: Two of us ate the coleslaw and are having the equivalent of a Taco Bell restroom visit. Don’t even trust the salad

2022-06-27Better Polish food that you can actually try in Poland. We tried „schabowy” and „placki po węgiersku” and they were both delicious. Place had some issues in the past but has been recently taken over by a new owner and progress is visible. Keeping fingers crossed that it’ll soon become a huge highlight on a culinary map of NY, because it deserves it!

2022-03-05This is not a restaurant as it was under the previous owner. The food is gross, stinks, old, reheated. Certainly not cooked by a Polish cook. Dont waste your time & money on fake Polish cuisine. Even lost their alcohol concessions..... DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ANYMORE

2019-12-23Went here for a lunch date and was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed good food at an affordable price with excellent service. A good selection of Polish and non-polish food with a very European vibe. The bread and spread was a nice addition to our lunch.

2018-09-07I have been going there on occaision for the past several years when Im in the area for business. The Polish style food menu is always good and the atmosphere is comfortable. I find it to be a great place to bring business clients for an enjoyable and reasonably priced home style Polish meal.

2017-09-07I ordered a pork cutlet with a sauce on the side, which was a good thing. I did not like the sauce. Also, the cutlet looked like it was blackened and it was tough. I told the waitress and all she said was, Im sorry. No offer to give me something else, or take the meal off the bill. Fortunately, I ordered bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer, or i would have gone home hungry I ordered the potato pancakes to go. When I heated them up the next day, I was total.y disappointed. They were devoid of flavor. My friend also ordered a pork cutlet dish and she said her meat was also tough. Note, we were a group of 8, celebrating a birthday. Its a shame, since otherwise it could be a nice place.
