Jongro BBQ in other cities:
One of THE best meals I’ve had since moving to NYC. The food was absolutely phenomenal! The only thing we didn’t really like were the frozen drinks as they were way too sweet. But everything else was amazing. Definitely a great place to take friends/family who are in town for a visit! Will definitely be returning soon!
Theres reason why people put 5 stars for this restaurant. Its so freaking good😁! The way they marinate their meats and side dishes has flavors. Cant compare to others Korean BBQ restaurant. If your a beef meat lover. Get the beef plater! The seafood pancake is super crunchy too.
What a fun experience and ambiance. Its located on the second floor and set up to look like youre walking through the streets. We ordered the marinated beef platter with veg dumplings with an additional platter of Kalbi beef for the 4 of us (3 hungry girls and 1 hungry guy). It turned out to be enough food but if there are more males in your group then you would def need more food. They cook it for you so the meat is perfect. Really enjoyed the experience. Service was great and would highly recommend.
If you never had Korean food Jongro is the best place for your first time. Honestly one my favorites restaurant. It has so many food options. The food is very flavorful. The staff is also very nice and welcoming, you never feel out of place. Amazing restaurant. Amazing Food.
My favorite Korean place in NYC! Their bibimbap is awesome and so is their BBQ. Love the drinks as well. We also went during COVID and they didn’t have their regular menu especially the bibimbap and bbq, my two favorite things but the food was still really good. They are now back with their regular menu which is great!
I ordered the marinated beef, it is awesome. Servers helped me with cooking the food, they are passionate and helpful, they attend to my every need and the experience is great. Appetizers may be subjective though, but theyre complimentary and come in a lot of small dishes, youre bound to like at least one of them!
Good Korean BBQ place. They are on the second floor of a building so it is easy to miss. Especially recommend the large combo that contains 5 different beefs. It is enough for 3 people. Service is good too. I also like the environment here. You get enough space between the tables.
Korean BBQ done really really well. They don’t take reservations for parties under 6 people, but the wait times were really small. The large beef platter we thought would be good for 2, but actually fed all 4 of us comfortably. Such a fun experience taking your food off the grill when you think it is done to your liking. Would recommend for a fun, interactive experience
Jongru is one of my favorite KBBQ spots in the city, and I have been to most of them. I come probably like 3-4 times a year. This time I came with my girlfriend and got the small beef platter. She was stuffed by the end of it, and I was satisfied (could’ve eaten a little more, but didn’t need to). The beef is always high quality, and they rub fat from the steak on the cooking surface ti make everything taste that much better. Ambiance is great - very social atmosphere where you can drink with friends. I come often and will come again.
Great vibe to this place! Nicely decorated inside. The bbq was good. The smell the taste the texture was delicious. A little pricey but all good. They ran out of korean beer but had plenty of Japanese beer. I thought that was hilarious. They have outdoor and indoor seatings! I definitely recommend checking this place out!!
Delicious korean bbq spot in the middle of ktown. We went at a peak time (~7pm), so it was 1.5 hr wait, but we were prepared for that. An hour later, the wait time was much, much shorter! They also have part of their restaurant with only 20-30 min wait with no alcohol & I forget what else they said. Anyway, food was so so good. We got the marinated beef platter, and that marinated skirt steak was *heavenly*, as was the rest. One of us is allergic to shellfish, so he didnt get to have some of the banchan (including the kimchi), but otherwise, we were happy. Great atmosphere, as well. Music was a bit loud.
Definitely a cool experience. They are on the second floor of the building. When I went they had us temp check and then we were seated. The staff was speedy and attentive. They did all the cooking for us at the table rather than do-it-yourself. There were so many different sides available that comes with the meal. My favorite was the macaroni salad. We ordered the seafood pancake and the pork belly and beef. Definitely plan to come back soon.
Worst restaurant in ktown. They rushed us out even after order $200 plus more for bbq. I specifically told them NOT to put in ramen noodles IN THE BUDDAEJJIGAE (army stew) bc the noodle soaks up all the broth. And of course they make my bbudaejjigae WITH NOODLE INSIDE THE BROTH. Look how little the meat is and rest is just noodle. This place is OVERPRICED. WORST SERVICE restaurant in ktown. Aka. Im korean and lived in nyc more than 15 years. This is far one of the worst. No wonder koreans don’t go here and they just rip people off with ppor quality service and food. I CALLED RESTAURANT AND IT GOES STRAIGHT INTO VOICE MESSAGE.
Make sure you have reservations for weekends and holidays! Or else the line for a weekend dinner is usually about 30-45mins. Also, if they sent you a message saying your table is ready, make sure to be present within the time required.Meat quality is good, ban-chan didn’t come in a big variety but taste good!Service is great!
This is probably one of my favorite spots in the city!! I can’t recommend this place highly enough!! If I could I would give it 10 stars! The was quite a long line outside and we’ve been told it was going to take 10-20 minutes. However we were in in less than 5. The whole experience is something different and unique! The food is authentic and made with great quality ingredients and lots of care! Excellent service!! They follow the CDC guidelines too! The price is also great! There’s no doubt we will come back!
Weekday lunch indoors on the 2nd floor.Had the beef short rib + spicy tofu soup combo.Immediately served banchan and asked if I wanted more when I finished it.Short rib had the delicious marinated flavor I was looking for.Happy I had a large container of water to myself.Only criticism might be it didnt seem to be a the highest cut meat, but given how tasty it was, the service, and $17 - - no real complaints.
Did KBBQ here in their outdoor area two times! It’s fully covered with fans in the summer and was still pretty comfortable with heaters the last time I went in November. The food was great and good for anyone looking for a KBBQ experience but are relatively new, as they come around and turn the meat for you.
Been to a lot of different Korean BBQ spots in the city and Jongro is one of the best options in K-Town. Delicious food with choice meats, fresh ingredients, friendly staff and attentive service. Would recommend the beef platter, very good and satisfying. The dishes on their regular menu are great also. Can get busy, but worth the price and wait when you want a choice place for BBQ and good food. Nice ambiance and environment also. Highly recommend.
High quality kbbq spot with high quality meats at a reasonable price. The venue is very welcoming with fun music playing in the background as you dine. Lots of beef options and you cant go wrong going with one of the combo platters that comes with several different cuts. My friend and I went with the marinated version and left incredibly satisfied while spending ~$40 per person.
HOLY MOLY. Out of the many KBBQs I’ve been to, this is by far the best. But be prepared! It’s extremely fast paced! Be sure you’re hungry coming here because the food doesn’t stop! Honestly, the food here might have not been extremely significant from other KBBQs I’ve been to (cus they’re all always good haha) but the atmosphere and the SERVICE is *chef’s kiss*, it just made everything taste all the better. Even the Korean music had us bumping while nonstop eating, and the server just kept going at it with the back to back dishes coming in and grilling. The people that work here clearly work extra hard.
At first it was difficult knowing if we were in the right place. I didn’t see any signs anywhere just a big building unmarked it didn’t really look like a restaurant. Because I watched a YouTube review earlier I remembered there was an elevator so I decided to just walk In the building and see. That’s when I noticed a small desk and a lady asking me if I was there to eat. She then pointed to the elevator and told me which floor to get off at. When we went to that floor there was the restaurant. It was a very beautiful restaurant restaurant and I loved the decor and atmosphere. We were sat down by the window and I loved the view of the town. The waiters didn’t really talk to us at all. They just brought us out water and took our order. We didn’t have to wait long they got everything going in good timing. They cook everything at the table for you. They seemed so organized and knew exactly what was going on. The meat was absolutely delicious! And the sides were delicious. We Love this restaurant and even though the waiters didn’t talk much it didn’t bother us because they did their job and kept everything moving and allowed us to talk with our family more. I’d definitely return!!!We ordered the Large beef combination platter: Prime Ribeye, Beef Thin Skirt, Brisket, Marinated Kalbi, and side order of pork belly and dumplings.
Food was great, we sat outdoors as there was a line to get inside and we were unable to get through on the phone to make reservations in advance. I ordered the seafood pancake and spicy rice cakes. The pancake was a little burnt but the rice cakes were great. Would love to return and check out the indoors next time.
Jongro is the best! If you really want to impress your out of town friends bring them here. The wait can be long but it is really worth it. We had kalbi, pork belly, beef thin skirt. All of the meat is high quality and deliciously cooked to perfection. The marinated style is most popular but I recommend trying the meats without it so you can really appreciate the flavor. We also ordered soft tofu stew and spicy rice cake which were also delicious. I have been here so many times and I will keep coming back!
Decent price, portions, taste, service for Korean BBQ in Manhattan (where they will cook for you rather than you cooking the food yourself).Tried one of the soups and one of the meats, meat tasted good. Came with some banchan so overall was enough to split between two ppl that dont eat large portions. Others might want one more meat dish.Usually a wait, theyll take your name.
We came here for lunch on a recommendation from a friend who currently lives in NY.We had never tried Korean food before so we were completely clueless but the waitress took the time to explain the menu to us. We chose the beef sharing plate which again the staff explained everything to us upon serving.Loved everything that was cooked right in front of us and the food tasted amazing! This is a new experience for both of us and we love them all!We would definitely recommend and hope to return on our next visit to NYC!
Top quality meat but very expensive, the portions are tiny, and the other dishes lacked flavor. Also the panchan (side dishes) were virtually nonexistent, which is a staple for any good Korean restaurant. The most disturbing part is that they charge $2 for a tiny bowl of rice! This is the first Korean restaurant I’ve been to that charges for rice.Cool decor but meh for the overall experience.
Great food and service! Compared to the prices of other restaurants, Jongro BBQ is definitely well-priced and stuffed my party of five with the beef platter+side and 1 other dish along with it. The wait time was fairly short and we were quickly seated and attended to. We will definitely visit again. :)
Very fun atmosphere and experience! The food was delicious. My husband and I shared the beef sampler plate and it was more then enough to fill up two people. Service was good and speedy. Would definitely recommend if you are willing to spend a little more on dinner for the night! We went on a Wednesday night and had to wait 50 mins for a table but it was definitely worth it.
Found this place looking for good Korean BBQ restaurants and so glad I did! The atmosphere is awesome, the staff is friendly and the food is delicious! We went on a Saturday evening and only had to wait about 20 min for a table. I love the decor of this place! It kind of feels like you’re in a street food market. There’s plenty of space between the tables and there’s sufficient ventilation so the place isn’t all smokey. There was just 2 of us so we ordered the standard meat plate and the marinated kalbi. We also got the beef tartare with egg as an appetizer. The beef tartare was good but the portion size was huge. It was a little too rich so we weren’t able to quite finish it. The sides they provided with the meal were all fresh and delicious! The kimchee was really good as was the bean sprouts mixed with hot sauce. My favorite side was the macaroni salad. On to the meats… the whole reason to go. All of the cuts of meat were so delicious! The server we had that was preparing the meats for us did a remarkable job. My favorite thing was dipping the meat in their house made gojuchang sauce! It was the best I’ve ever had!My favorite cuts of meat were the sirloin and the marinated kalbi! Their house marinade is so delicious! Definitely make sure to order that one! As far as drinks go I’d recommend the frozen strawberry bomb! Dangerously delicious! There were so many other cuts of meat that we wanted to try so we will definitely be back soon!
What more can I add that hasn’t already been said? This place is fantastic, noisy and bustling but a great atmosphere. The food is delicious and all the sides really complement the grill. I’ve had both the beef platter and the marinated beef platter. I love the kimchi pancake. Try and get here relatively early (before 7) and put your name on the list so the wait isn’t too long because the queue gets quite big quite fast!
Food was great, but honestly nothing struck out for the price. I’ve been to let’s meat and decided to try this place out since lots of people recommended it. I ordered the regular beef platter and pork belly with another friend, but both of us were still hungry afterwards. It felt awkward to order more since the plate was quickly cleaned, and it felt rushed. If you want to try this place out, it’s good but if you’re wanting a decent meal without going over budget, I’d try another place.
To start off, this restaurant is located on the second floor of a building directly next to the stall area they have outside. Once inside, you check in with the first floor people who direct you to the elevator. The people on the second floor will be expecting you and are waiting with menus to seat you right away. The music is loud so if you dont like noise this isnt the place for you. Once you are seated, they will bring you water while you look over the menu. Once you have chosen what you would like to eat, the staff bring it out promptly. You do NOT cook your own meat. The server will cook your meat for you. The staff are very attentive and the atmosphere is great!
The food was very delicious. The people there are really polite. The music was nice too😊. Just make sure to bring a lot of cash when going 😅...beside that the food was very good. I would definitely come back. Also the restaurant is upstairs in a building. There is a green inside sitting thing outside, its right in front of the restaurant. Try not to get confused...because I did😅. Beside that this place is 100% 5 rating.
There was a waitlist for about 20 minutes when I went (5th floor if I’m not mistaken), but IT WAS WORTH IT! Had kbbq, sundubu jjigae, dosirak and mandu and oh my goodness, everything was SO good! All the banchan that they give you AND the steamed egg. Please do yourself a favor and go!
THIS is a KBBQ place to go to!Great meats, great sides, fun drinks and delivers against high expectations.I love the Beef Belly (which isnt included in the combos deals) and the Assorted Mushrooms! If you havent tried either I definitely recommend them. The ssamjang is incredible here compared to some other KBBQ places, and the banchan comes with gyeranjjim (egg souffle) which is so yummy.Cool atmosphere & good vibes! Expect a wait, even on weekdays because its popular AF
Lunch was delicious!Service was awesome from the temperature check at the door, to getting our table, and to the food. It was a bit pricey but Im assuming thats pretty fair rate in new york actually. Really loved the kimchi jeon, cold noodles, and brisket for a first meal in the city! Highly recommended.
Fraud alert! They took my card once and said it didn’t go through when my bank app already popped up with the transaction. And they took my another card. They said the first one was just pending charge and would disappear a few day later.I am glad I check this today! It DOUBLE CHARGED!!!The dinning experience was so bad too. They were trying with everything they can to make us eat and go fast so we, a group of four, only sat there for 50min including back and forth for 10 minutes for this card issue.Very disappointed. Won’t hassle myself to come back.Update: I’ve called for three times. They all took my phone number and said the manager would call back. Heard nothing for 3 days. I will just take it to my credit card bank let them solve. I shouldn’t trust their word from very beginning. So inefficient.
Delicious food and great menu. Be aware - the meat options come with lots of shared sides! We ordered a few dishes that were never delivered, BUT the entrees were filling enough by themselves, and we weren’t charged for the food we didn’t receive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fresh meaty meal.
Ordered a ton of food, which was the right decision. The cocktail bomb was fruity and strong but its a coors light, which isnt my favorite and at the end you could really taste the light beer. The scallion pancake was a great call, but showtime is the meat options. We got 3 types, only 1 is pictured. Thats the main event. Its worth traveling for. My preference for korean bbq as it stands is jongro.
We found a metal wire in our kimchi. Really guys? When showed it to the waitress she literally said nothing and just took it away to throw another one on the table…picture attached. Everything felt way too rushed and unwelcoming. Probably because of the line outside to get in. Would never go back and not recommend to anyone. Two stars for the meat, but otherwise would give zero.
Extremely easy to spend money here Ill tell u that but over all vibes were cool from the waiters and I had answers to all my questions. They can cook the food or u can. Over all a fun experience and the quality of everything was amazing. Best steak Ive ever had hands down.
So good! Perfect for a small group, 4-6 people or so. We split the large beef platter and the large pork platter, which ends up being a better deal than individually picking meats for every person. The frozen mango and strawberry bombs were huge and reminded me of being at the beach 😊 can’t wait to come back to this tasty spot.
We were there at lunchtime on a Wednesday. No crowds, no waiting. Pleasantly surprised. We didnt order the lunch menu and decided to go for the beef BBQ for $83 for the three of us. Food was plenty for us. Beef quality is excellent. The cooking in front of us was fun and perfect. The staff are professional. The decoration of this place is fun. You cannot see the place at street level. You need to take the elevator to get there.
The USDA Prime Marinated Kalbi is AMAZING! So delicious. I love the sides it comes with as well. The pork dumpling are great as well. The service is amazing! They are very attentive and as soon as one of your sides finish, they are standing by to replace the side. Definitely recommend!
Located inside next to the machi machi this place uses rice instead of a corn batter and the hot dogs are so good! Just like the ones you’d get from street carts in Korea! Can’t go wrong with any of them but my personal fave is the ramen crusted one paired with a cheese filled one for the perfect ratio of hotdog to cheese
Food was good, but made reservations in advance over the phone for a large party. While making the reservations, they didnt mention that large parties would be difficult to seat so when we showed up, we ended up waiting over 45 minutes for our table. Wish the communication was a bit better so we could plan better...
This is not an experience to try in couple / for a romantic dinner. The meat is good, but all the rest isnt. You will exit from there smelling from head to toe. Icing on the cake: the waiter was so present (insistent) until the checking and then forced us to leave a tip, commenting and asking questions when we tried to write a dollar amount different from the ones proposed. Very disappointed. Too much expensive for such an experience. You can enjoy better experiences in NY: save your money!
When we arrived the host said that the wait was about 45min. I turned around to ask my friend if that was okay. When I looked back, there was a new host who said we could be seated immediately if we didnt want to drink alcohol. We were totally fine with that.Getting up the floor we wanted was an adventure. There was a whole system of walkie talkies that were used to take people to different floors (second for alcohol, fifth for none). People were very confused so people kept getting in and out of the elevator.Once we were seated we ordered and sides came with the meal. Rice isnt on the menu and must be ordered separately. The servers cook the food for you, which I was surprised by, but it was definitely tasty.
This is my favorite Korean BBQ place in NYC. I have been going there for over two years and the food and service have always been perfect. The atmosphere is amazing with the layout of the tables and the songs choices as well. I recommend this place to everyone I know and also recommend this place to anyone visiting NYC or Koreatown.
5.0 | MY MY. YES. Definitely the best Korean BBQ experience Ive had thus far. My friend said it came highly recommended, and she did not lie. We chose a rlly delicate window to eat because the wait quickly became over threehours vs our twenty mins. My highest recommendation. Order the rice cakes and the platter. Your bill is going to higher, but its worth it. Also check out the bubble tea spot across the street!
Yes I know its Korean BBQ however, in order to support friends by going with them to Jongro vegetarians really have limited choices actually one or two.... Thats it. A couple of the sauces were tasty and the spice was good but limited on selections....why not put some grilled veggies on the BBQ too!?!
Hands down best authentic, old school Korean bbq! Our (Korean-American) family has been let down time after time at other K-town restaurants in NYC. Some too fusion/chic, others just terrible due to losing their way with poor quality and service. This restaurant has it down! From the great authentic food, to the amazing service, to the great music. Feels like you are In Seoul, Korea. Kudos to whoever is running this place! Thank you for restoring our faith in NYC Korean food. This is our new go-to Korean restaurant in NYC.
Unfortunately no online/phone reservations for parties under 6. We arrived on a busy Sunday night and booked a table for 4. They use technology to streamline the communication process. Enter your phone number and they will text you when youre table is ready. We ordered the large beef platter with kimchi pancake and dumplings to start. The cuts of meat were beautifully presented and high quality. The server cooks the meat for you which is a nice touch. That way you can sit back and just eat. Kudos to our server who was attentive and delivered a great experience.
At first, when I entered the place, I thought “Why is it so quiet?” But when I entered the second floor, my mind was completely blown!🫣🤡🥶🤯🤩🥸🤡😳😬The service was great, and the small appetizer dishes were amazing! The pork and meat was delicious and well cooked. The seafood pancake was delicious and well cooked! Defo comin back here again😨😷😊☺️🫡🫥
Meat sweats, but so worth it. From the appetizers to the meats they cook in front of your face this place slippity slaps. I ate like ten different animals, seasoned to perfection. My blood pressure has increased likely by 20 points from this meal. It was a blissful experience and the staff were awesome. Come here, meat up with some friends or a date or hold a work meating, whatever excuse you need to make up to eat at Jongro, it doesnt matter. Just eat here.
Delicious but diner was rushed by our waitress. She throw all the meat we ordered at once. This is unusual as I never experienced this before in jongro. It was a Monday night and the place was half empty so I dont understand why. Service was not great .Food was good and definitely satisfying though
I’ve always been to all you can eat kbbq and thought that was good for the price but jongro meats are higher quality and definitely worth it. The beef platter option and the extra side dishes were definitely filling and sufficient for two people. I like how the steamed egg comes with the dish. That was also really good
We came at noon. This place is on second floor so look up for the sign. Lunch special order came in with great portion, super delicious bbq beef. I also ordered potato stew with ribs, which amazed me! Highly recommend if you look for food in K town. Will be my goto place.
After exploring the NYPL for an hour, my husband and I were very hungry but not sure if we wanted a salad or a hot lunch. After browsing online we decided to give this place a try as I have only eaten Korean once before and that was over 20 years ago.Our server was helpful and skillful enough not to ask why I didnt know what to order or why I needed a fork. (I am oneKorean adopter) It was fun to watch the cooking process with the beef at the table and the vegetables that really enhanced the meat. Also delicious were the kimchi pancakes, which I ended up needing to bring half back to our hotel, such generous portions! Will have to visit NYagain and try dinner here!
Best BBQ spot in K-Town.Order Seafood Pancake its thick and crispy unlike other restaurants. If u like raw meet then go for beef tartareIf u dont know what meat to eat then go for combination on beef. 2-3 people i would recommend small combination. More than 3 i would recommend ordrring large combination. My favorite is Beef brisket then rib eye. I recommend mixing the salt, oil and their special sauce that look like soy sauce but in light color. They give u the sauce in metal place that has 3 section soy bean base sauce, salt, and special sauce.
It’s our go to KBBQ spot in Manhattan. It’s always so packed but the service is quick and the food is good. It’s perfect for a super casual dinner and drinks with your friends. Me and my friends stopped getting the combo sets after a while. I think it’s a better deal to just order each cut of meat you want individually so you don’t get stuck with the random other cut you didn’t really want IMO.I personally this place better than Baekjeong, but I would go to Yoon Haeundae Galbi or Rib No 7 instead if you’re willing to pay more for higher quality meat.
Jongro is my favorite out of all the kbbq restaurants in the area. And I say this mostly based on their customer service. First I think they have the best servers here. They are always super nice and polite. Never make you feel rushed or awkward and honestly for me customer service at a lot of restaurants really make or break the experience. Theres a few restaurants in k-town where I love the food but dont like the servers so I avoid but here its literally the best of everything! Also I find the seating here to be spacious. I hate being sat at a small table when I am dining as a couple. Even though the table is big enough for 2 the table is not big enough for the food and its annoying playing jenga to get everything to fit. Here the tables are all big enough, although it helps that there is not too much banchan. Something some people may complain about is the fact that they dont serve much banchan here but honestly I find that most people dont eat much of the banchan and its a huge waste of money for the restaurant. Plus typically kbbq places in korea dont really serve a whole lot of banchan when the restaurant specializes in meat, they just serve the basic stuff. If you want a restaurant that serves a lot of banchan its better to go somewhere else. The meat quality here is great! Always very fresh and delicious and I think the portion sizes are good. Plus I like how they take their time to cook the meats and not try to rush and cook everything at once. Plus you cant beat the atmosphere.
This used to be my favorite bbq restaurant in the city. I still love it but they dont give lettuce leaves to make a ssam anymore. This makes it impossible to layer all the flavors into a single bite. I guess theyre doing this to save money since nobody is going to order more of the chopped lettuce. You should still have lettuce available only upon request! Youd still be saving money that way.
I know Jongro is a busy restaurant but they tried to rush us out in a very disresepectful way. They COMMANDED us to remove the food from the tray instead of kindly asked us to do so before replacing it. After we finished the meat platter, they came and asked if we were still working on other stuff LITERALLY EVERY 5 MINS, and finally removed everything from our table as they desired.Right after that, they directly brought the ipad to the table and requested us to pay with a passive aggressive tone of voice. We were rushed out only 50 mins after we got seated for a party of 4. It was an awful dining experience because they want to let you know YOU SHOULD LEAVE with everything they could do without saying that directly. Food is good, but very disappointed with the service.
A Korea-town institution which is trying hard with the outdoor dining situation (Oct 2020) and have made a welcome space on the pedestrianised part of the street. The staff are excellent and attentive (even for things like dropped chopsticks from one of the kids) and the lunch options are solid. We had a mix but there was something for everyone. Indoors laid out as if its street dining (which is somewhat ironic given the circumstances) but will be great to try when things return to normal.
So good I forgot to take photos until we were almost done eating! We had the pork jowls and the marinated kalbi. I fully expected that wed do the grilling as usual in Korean BBQs but nope! They did it all. First they did the pork with a different grill pan than in the photo. When we were almost done eating they switched out for the grate and started cooking the beef. Rice is a separate charge which is understandable, but we were able to refill on the banchan without extra charge. Even while they were cooking there were plenty of others making sure we had what we needed otherwise. Glad we had a chance to eat here.
Literally a waste of money. I’ve never left a Korean bbq restaurant and had to go somewhere else to get food. Just know that it is not all you can eat and it’s not enough food to fill you up. We bought the large beef platter and will now be going to yet another restaurant.Highly do not recommend.
I have to say the food is great like always, but the service we received last night was AWFUL!!!! I live 5mins walking distance from this restaurant, and this is always my first choice to go when I want Korean food. The server took at least ten mins to come to us after we sat down. The food is quick but when we asked him for extra sauces and napkins he said OK, and then he walked around to place another order for other people, served soup to another table, and brought napkins to another table…. So we thought that he might forget(everyone may have short-term memory loss), but after 10mins he came back to us to cut our meat. We asked again could we have some napkins and sauces. He didn’t reply. Another two mins passed by, so I said this is our third time asking for some napkins and sauces for our table, may I please have them??He said OK, then walked away… no apologies, no nothing…..But guess what?? He treats the table next to us with wonderful service!!! Like I do not know if there’s some sort of discrimination here or what ?? Because if we receive the service we get as a customer, I will give a 20percent tip, but this service is only worth a penny. The manager did apologize and offered to waive this order for me. I still paid the full amount because there was nothing wrong with the food. I have to say all the other servers and staff we met so far didn’t have any issues.
Our go to KBBQ spot in NY.We always get the beef combo (unmarinated and marinated), it comes with steamed egg, small soup, and side dishes (banchan), and this time, I ordered cold nengmyun (cold noodle soup) which goes great with bbq.The location doesnt have a huge sign or anything, you just know it by the crowed gathered outside waiting to be called to be taken up to the 2nd floor (or 5th floor for their sister restaurant (different restaurant but SIMILAR food)). We waited about 45 minutes on Friday evening and I always think it is well worth it.Also try their old school lunch box.
Amazing! My coworkers and I about 16 of us went to Jongro for lunch. We each had an item from their lunch menu and we all were very satisfied with our meals! I had the Kimichi Bulgogi Gobdol which comes in a hot stone and you have the option of soup so I added the spicy tofu soup. Everything was soooo good I especially loved the crispy rice at the bottom of the Hot Stone , this was the highlight of my meal 🤤. I can’t wait to visit again to try their bbq next.
One of the best spots in K-Town NYC. Finally got a table after a few tries and had a feast! Very generous portions of Banchan. Some service items also magically appeared! First Gopchang experience and it didn’t disappoint. Ate on the 5th floor location which has no alcohol, but you can eat on the 2nd floor if you need it with your meal. Warning, service is speedy as they look to turn tables quick for the dinner rush. Don’t take it personally!
Delicious food in a very cool environment complete with K pop. Meat was amazingly fresh and the seasonings were perfect. The beer list is very limited, and be prepared to argue with your server about what you want. Ours contradicted us on every decision- no, you dont want that, you want this - that was the worst part about the place. The beer selection was non-existent. But as far as flavor goes, they nailed it. Will be coming back and be forceful about what I want next time!
Always super crowded, there is always a wait time, but its worth it. The BBQ is delicious. Tables are specious enough to allow all the items of the BBQ without feeling cramped. The service is amazing, super fast and efficient. We ordered, the pork marinated ribs, the beef ribs, AND a noodle and seafood soup. All cooked on the table! The atmosphere is very relaxed, family friendly, mostly very young crowd.
I have been here twice and I will be back for a third run!I have been here on two separate occasions and I have been equally impressed each time! The food, the service, the atmosphere -IMPECCABLE!My first time trying Korean barbecue and I will recommend this to any meat lovers. Unfortunately, this is not vegan friendly.I had gone twice and the consistency of the service was stunning. The quality of the meat was outstanding. Non formal, decent drinks. I must say expect to spend atleast $45 per person, but it’s worth it.
First experience here was pretty average. We didn’t have to wait long to get a table for the bbq. One thing that I didn’t quite like was how rushed we felt. We had just sat down and was then asked multiple times whether we had what we wanted to eat yet. Our food did come pretty fast, fortunately, and the foods were immediately cooked by the waiters and waitresses. One thing was that the beef platter was a bit plain and dry for my taste and we didn’t have much sauces for the beef. When I bit into the beef, I found it a little bit harder than usual to chew apart and that there wasn’t much taste. Perhaps ordering a marinated beef platter would have been a better option. We ended up not finishing the platter and was able to bring the remaining home in a takeout box.
Ordered the marinated beef platter, pork check and seafood pancake. The beef was juicy and tender, very flavorful. It also has a good portion of fat and lean meat. The pork check was outstanding, chewy and delicious with the sauce. The pancake was just ok.Vegetables and steamed eggs came in for free. They also provided unlimited lettuce. The service was very fast and attentive. A little pricey though, average $50 including tips.
Excellent Korean BBQ in the city! Tried to eat here a while ago, but the wait was long so we decided to try somewhere else. Today was the day and boy was it worth it. We came at 6pm on a Monday so there was no wait and we were seated right away. We ordered the pork platter, marinated kalbi and the seafood pancake. The pancake was crispy and bursting with flavors. The meats were cooked in front of us and were melt in your mouth delicious. I recommend reservations though cuz when we left at around 730pm there was a long line in the front. Just remember that your clothes will smell like the BBQ.
The meat was spectacular here! The service was amazing as well! They divvied up the meats nicely among my group and cooked the meats well! The only thing that I can complain about is the price but the quality of meat makes it all worth it!I came with a big group and we ended up with a pre-fixed menu but the service was fast and efficient. They even let us stay there just to hang out and chit chat.10/10 would go again.
We ordered assorted sausage stew and it came In this beautiful plastic container. Hope you enjoyed how it visually appears as much as I did lolStaff is quite unorganized, my cousin who is 12 years old ordered USDA ribeye and it cameMedium rare (even though he was never asked for the cooking preference). The most importantly, our dog who was allowed at outdoor space was pretty happy, as he had the most of our meal 🙄😄
Used to be my favorite kbbq joint however the prices have gone up and portions have gotten smaller. We did a set for two and the portions were quite small. Marinated meats were tasty and flavorful. Tofu soup that was included was a bit watered down with very little actual tofu inside. Granted their ingredients are great but the portions are too small. Their will likely be a wait at dinner peak hours. They won’t check your coat until you are ready to be seated.
11.9.17 - Dinner with some gents at a place that has been around for some time, but it was my first time. The service is fast and responsive. The food quality is generally good and the BBQ station does a good job of taking the smoke away. I cant tell you what part of the beef or pork we ordered, except for the pork skin, and everything was cooked just right. You will need the condiments to add savoriness to the meet, but some of the beef comes pre-seasoned. The rice was also nice and fluffy, too, albeit in some parts it was on the moist side, which is what I prefer. If you arrive after 6 PM expect to wait at least 20-30 minutes to be seated. If you arrive before 5:45 you should get seated relatively quickly. I think we sat for about 1.5-2 hours and the place stayed packed the entire time. so it would behoove you to make a reservation or show up early. Its a good place for groups and generally priced well.
Great Korean BBQ spot in Chinatown. Its tucked away in the 2nd floor of an office building so if you havent been here before you may miss it. Our server was great she explained everything to my daughter so that she felt comfortable during her first Korean BBQ experience. The kimchi is fantastic! Its a little pricey here but the atmosphere and healthy portions make up for it. This is a great place for groups!
An amazing Korean bbq experience. The staff here are so attentive and the food is DELICIOUS. No wonder it’s so popular! The meat is very fresh, we got the beef platter so we could try them all and they cook it for you, and leave the best till last. My god the meat was so tender and juicy! Came with loads of sides too and top up of lettuce and kimchi also came quickly.Bill came to $100 for two people which was standard for New York KBBQ I was told. Defo recommend!
We arrived around 6pm on Sunday evening on labor day weekend. It started to get really busy right after we put down our name.Three of us ordered beef platter and pork belly. The portion was enough. I thought they over cooked the beef a little bit, but everything else was still good. The service was really good. They always refilled our side dishes before we asked for. However they forgot about our seafood pancake until we finished our meal so we decided to cancel it.
First Korean BBQ experience. We ordered marinated beef and chicken. Portions were more than enough for 3-4 people. The food was good, stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something different. Saturday evening was busy but wait was only 15 minutes. Staff were very helpful and answered all questions. Cant wait to go back during my next visit to NYC. Restaurant is a short walk to/from Madison Square Garden
This was the most amazing experience. It is very similar to a hibachi style restaurant but way cooler. The mini exhaust fan and cooking surface is unique and the quality of the meats are phenomenal. We had the pork platter, beef platter, and bulgagi (awesome). Would highly recommend but there is a long wait so don’t go a peak of hunger
Extremely memorable experience. The food, ambiance, service. All 360° great meal we had here. We got the beef bbq for two. Kimchi is delicious, tofu soup amazing! Bbq on your table is a very unique experience. Definitely a must if you have never been to a Korean style BBQ. You wont be disappointed.
LEGIIIIIIIT!!! So glad I picked this one and suffered the wait! Ive been to KBBQ all over NYC and LA and this is now one of my all time favorites. Meat is the highest quality and furthermore, our waiter went above and beyond cooking it perfectly for us. The atmosphere is great, the decor is fun, and the window views are a nice benefit. If youre looking at all the KBBQ in the area and not sure what to try, pick this one!
The food is good, I only recommend that some of the waiters improve their attention, they get annoyed if you dont order quickly, in this case it was the drinks, they must take care of this aspect since at least I return a part for the good food and another for the attention they give me
BEST BBQ place in KTown, hands down.I’ve tried quite a few korean bbqs in Manhattan and this is the one I will always come back to. Not only is the location really pretty and very typical - you almost feel like being on the second floor of a korean market, where they cook what you bought - but the food is simply AMAZING.You can choose among many options, different beef or pork combos are a great option if you’re in a group, or you can just pick your favorite cuts. They also have a few options if you want something other than bbq: Japchae, bibimbap, tteokbokki, pajeon, mul naengmyeon, just to name a few. What i can tell you is none of these dishes will ever disappoint. What I recommend you guys to try for sure is the pork belly (samgyeopsal), perfectly layered and absolutely delicious with just a tad of salt or doenjang and made into a wrap with lettuce and kimchi (and raw garlic if you like it).Other dishes I’d recommend are the marinated galbi, the bulgogi, and the ribeye. As far as other dishes I’m a huge fan of their Japchae, their tteokbokki, and the cold green tea noodles. If you want something small(er) as an appetizer try the kimchi jeon, or the pajeon, they’re pretty good and always made fresh. If you order one of their set combo meals, you’ll also get a soup of your choice. The banchan dishes are delicious, always order raw garlic on the side if you want the authentic experience, and the pickle onion they bring is to die for. Their kimchi is also very good, and so are the sauces they give you for the meats - The teriyaki sauce with bean flour is sweet and sticky, while the doenjang is nice and salty. If anything I wish they also had the option to get more vegetables sides and finish your meal with boekumbap - but hey maybe you can and I’ve just never asked! Guess I’ll have to go back and see! 😍
I had one of the best Korean BBQ experiences I ever had in North America, one that is comparable to some of the best Korean BBQ places Ive been to in Korea. This isnt your everyday go to restaurant, the price is not friendly but the quality of the food and the full service staffs more than make up for it. The experienced staffs actually cook the meat for you so you can taste the best flavour, juiciest meat. My recommendation is to order the table cooking BBQ with your meat preference (choose the best quality beef and you wont regret it) and the bean paste soup (doenjang-jjigae) with a bowl of rice. Heavens.
Best Korean BBQ in town, the queue during peak hours says it all. There is usually waiting, you can get your name on the wait list and head to the bar on the 7th Floor, a pretty decent one with Karaoke and a few private rooms as well. Food at the BBQ is just fantastic, pick any item from the list and you won’t be disappointed.
The restaurant was located on the 2nd floor. We almost missed it. It had nice decor and service was efficient. This was the first Korean restaurant that we had tried that did not serve the complementary array of side dishes (marinated kimchi flavored tofu, veggies, etc) to start your meal. They were one of the reasons that I liked Korean food. In fact, I started eating the kimchi that was meant as a condiment for the Kalbi dish.Korean BBQ was a must. They were cooked at your table. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful. But it was a bit expensive. Kalbi for one was $37.99. Seafood tofu stew was also good but portion was small. We were used to the friendly price in New Jersey. This might just be the norm in NYC.
Great experience. No wonder they command 4.5+ rating. Food was of course awesome. Getting a table is not an issue. As soon as you enter the building a person informs you which floor to go to for instant seating. Service is very prompt and folks are helpful. Menu is wide and varied. Recommend to go for the table top grilling of the various meats. Sides are a plenty. They do not skimp on quantity nor on the number of times to replenish. Definitely high quality of cuisine and experience.
The original Jongro BBQ location in Koreatown of Manhattan. Located on the 2nd floor in a nondescript building, its very easy to miss this restaurant among all the other Korean BBQ restaurants. However, if you do manage to locate the elevator that takes you to the 2nd floor, you will be transported to Korea... an older, classic version of Korea. The BBQ is on the pricey side, but the meat quality is top notch and it includes cooking service. Our favorite cuts are the pork and beef bellies. All non-BBQ Korean dishes are authentic and delicious. We usually order the green-tea cold noodle, the vegetable gobdol, and/or the lunch box to go with our meat. There are a lot of choices when it comes to Korean BBQ in Manhattan, but its really a no-brainer to go to Jongro for the best experience.
Great place...get there early , it gets packed for dinner. Ordered Kalbi but didnt know there were different versions. One marinated the other not. Of course we assumed it was marinated..NOT! Made the best if it...still good! Service, cleanliness, great tasting food all a plus!!
I loved this place!!!! It was definitely different from the kbbq that I’m used to ($25 AYCE), but you definitely get a higher quality meat and a more personalized experience. We ordered the beef platter, which had brisket, kalbi, ribeye, and thin skirt steak. We also ordered a side of spicy rice cakes and a kimchi pancake. The kbbq came with an assortment of sides, including lettuce wraps, onions, cabbage, kimchi, sauces, a salad, a steamed egg, a soup of our choice (we chose soft tofu), and pickled onion (? I think?). The meat was super high quality and the servers were so kind. They cooked the meat for us and told us exactly when to eat it if we wanted it to be medium rare, medium, etc. I didn’t think I was going to be full because it wasn’t a ton of meat, but I walked away much heftier than when I first got there. This place gets busy very quickly, and it is also located on the 2nd floor so you have to take an elevator to get up to it. I loved this experience and once I’ve saved up enough money I will definitely be back!
Great looking spot. It feels like you are in a different country when you walk down the basement and enter the beautifully decorated “den”. The food is good, but pricey. Very fun spot. Except a long wait, but you can sign up and go have a drink in the area while they text you when ready.
Very good quality meat! We tried the Beef Combo Set and it was perfect for two people. Look at the marbling of the steaks - it was very tasty. They’re very efficient with cooking the meat, getting you fed and out the door. Our only complaint was that they don’t allow refills of the small side soup that it comes with, and I felt that the variety of side dishes was lacking. But otherwise, solid choice for KBBQ.
When you get out of the lift you just feel in Seoul. The place looks and feels exactly like in korea. The food is perfect and the USDA beef is simply outstanding. The service is very attentive but casual and makes you feel at home. The music is 100% Koream pop.If you want the full korean experience just go there
Fast and excellent service. they have done a lot to decorate the place so that it looks like old Korea. their cold noodle was just great. the noodles were chewy and the soup tasted just the way it should. it was a bit pricey, but then again it is in NYC. i would love to come back.
A hidden gem in an otherwise nondescript building. Located on the 2nd floor, elevator opens directly to the restaurant - as soon as you get your first glimpse you know its gonna be great.Attentive staff, great atmosphere, and delicious food. By far the best part of the experience is the BBQ - many meats offered and all truly amazing. Its fun to watch your meal cooked to perfection before you.Ask for a booth by the window for a great view of the street below.
I came here with my boyfriend for a late dinner after spending the day in New York. We knew that we wanted to eat here, and had a slightly hard time finding the elevator to go up to the second floor where the restaurant was located. The wait time for dinner at 7 was one hour so we went up to a karaoke bar to wait for the time to pass. It was well worth the wait, the food was delicious and it was extremely great experience. The beef was fantastic and he and I split a marinated beef platter. It is a little bit on the pricey or side, but with all of the sides and the person cooking the meat for you it seemed like it was reasonable. I highly recommend this place.
It was good, didnt know what I was eating half the time (like whats in the pic) but everything was surprisingly really good especially when you add the sauces and a little salt, that they give you. But my second experience at a Korean Bbq and the best so far! And cool wait staff...
AWESOME! The food was amazing, the service was great and the atmosphere was very Korean BBQ. The menu was a little confusing at first but the waitress was very helpful and we ended up with just the right amount of food. They cooked the beef right at our table. The main beef item came with like 5 different sides included. Overall, a very unique experience paired with some truly amazing food! I will be coming back.
So good. We came just before a the dinner rush. It is pricey. We ordered the standard meat dish that they said it can feed 2. Added some side dishes and a seafood pancake with kimchi soup. It was more than enough for 4 petite people. Your hair and clothes will smell like BBQ. Staff are nice and greet you like any Korean restaurant. And help you grill the meat.
A lot of people come to here, so you need to wait for a while. The BBQ is great and you can enjoy the free appetizer for unlimited just like others Korean restaurants also tasted good! And the server will help you to cook the bbq then you don’t need to do it by yourself. However, their tempo is very fast, let me and my friend very nervous that’s why I only give them 4 stars.if they’re more slowly will let customers enjoying their foods and no rush! But of course the restaurant want every customer eat and leave faster, then they can welcome next one and get more money lol
A great lively, casual, noisy place to enjoy Korean BBQ. Warning: Not for first dates, can be a bit messy. Loved the food, very tasty. The food cooked at your table. If you chose the 80$ meat platter would be plenty for 2, maybe 3, if youre light eaters.Once you order your food be prepared to eat continuously until youre done, not really much time for talking.
Even though the restaurant is on the second floor hidden within a single door building, the decor made up for its inconvenience. It reminds me of the restaurants decor of Jung Gu in Seoul. The service where standard Korean BBQ grade, a call button on every table for standby servers. The quality of the meat were good too, A4 rank at least (marbling and taste almost as good as A5 黑毛和牛).Its a plus that theres also a pot stove next to the grill, would be even better if i can do shabushabu at the same time!I love the pork cheek and cow tongue and kalbi, all pretty good quality.
I have been to Jongro Bbq 4 times so far; 3 for dinner and 1 for lunch. Absolutely the greatest service every time from both Korean and non-Korean staffs. The barbecues taste almost as good as you would get in Korea. The thing I appreciate the most about this place is its distinguished vibe built on the retro-motivated Korean touch—which interests me and fascinates my non-Korean friends.
This is honestly one of my favorite places in the whole city. The food is always consistent and mouthwateringly delicious. I’ve brought several friends and family members here and everyone always leaves smiling and planning their next visit to come back. There is a reason they are always busy even though they have the entire floor of the building. Friendly tip: put your name on the list and head to the 7th floor karaoke bar for a drink while you wait for a table.

2022-07-02Theres no other place like this!My party of 5 was very simple and decided on a platter. All the meat we had was absolutely delicious and melted in my mouth. I dont even like meat and I enjoyed it here. I came from out of NYC and I find myself looking for some place like this back where I live, but its not possible. This place is way way up there for me. Highly recommended.Everything was in great quality so it justified the price. Service was pretty good as well.

2022-06-11Im going to start with, Ill be coming back! We came at 1030pm and the place was still packed but there was no wait. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We got the pork belly and marinated kalbi (a lot of places makes the marinade very sweet but not here!). Both were cooked to perfection (not over cooked) and the quality of both were worth the price. No complaints and will be planning to be back!

2022-03-29Great food! We went as a group of five, and had a great experience. The chicken was well marinated, and the pork was cooked very well. Macaroni salad was a plus but slightly bummed there was no cheese corn. Pricing was not too terrible, around 30$ per person. Service was great! It was pretty cool (and convenient) to see them cooking and cutting the meat right in front of you. Would definitely come back again!

2022-01-09Fun experience for those trying Korean BBQ for first or second time. The cook the food for you right in the table, it was tasty. Per reviews, I agree, get the beef platter and marinated chicken. They provide variety of condiments with the meal. Also, ask for rice, it’s extra and not on the menu. Servers and waiters are extremely busy. Don’t expect to have long chit chats with them, but they were friendly. Worthwhile restaurant to dine.

2022-06-22Holy KBBQ, I’m so glad we ate here! The food is absolutely phenomenal. Will definitely come again next time I’m in K town. It’s very popular so plan ahead especially during peak hours. We came here later in the evening on a weekend and were seated pretty quickly. You get a lot of food included when you order a BBQ meat main. The boiled egg is very light and fluffy, the sides are good, there’s an abundance of difference sauces, and the pancake was delicious. Very crunchy and savory. We didn’t have room for all the food with just the two of us, having ordered one steak and one pancake. Meat was fresh and very tender, they came around and cooked it for you. Definitely stop by and treat yourself!

2021-12-11We were in the area at lunchtime & decided to find a Korean restaurant. We found Jongro BBQ and were very happy we did! When the elevator opened at 2nd floor, we immediately were transported to a “Korean food camp” sort of layout. The aroma was a telltale of great flavors yet to be enjoyed! They were very helpful & seeing that we did not immediately start grilling meat at our table, the server came over & placed some beef on the grill, cooking quickly! The cooked meat tasted so delicious being off the fire for mere seconds! This is the way to enjoy Korean grilled meats!Next time, we’ll come with more people & more time to enjoy the ambiance & fantastic flavors! Vote Jongro BBQ for the WIN!!!

2022-04-23Delicious! One platter was good enough for our party of 3 people - quality meats for sure. Side dishes were great as well! I appreciated that the meat was cooked for us and service was great. On the pricier side, but I thought it was worth it.

2022-02-16I ALWAYS love me a visit to Jongro. The food is delicious and around the price point expected for a good Korean BBQ experience. Will continue to come back here more, time and time again!

2022-04-24Came with a party of 5 for a friend’s birthday lunch. The place is located on the second floor and the entrance can be a bit difficult to spot. However, once you take the elevator up, you’ll see a huge space for the restaurant, which was much bigger than I expected. We went at around 2pm and were told that no reservations would be needed at this time.We ordered the Beef Platter, Pork Belly, Lychee Soju Cocktail and Green Grape Fruity Soju to share. The meat portions were definitely less than it seemed in the photos and for the price, but was nonetheless good. The meat isn’t as marinated as typical barbecue places so it’s more natural tasting and less heavy. Def recommend getting the Pork Belly on the side as it was really good as well. We also liked the Lychee Soju Cocktail since it mainly just tasted like lychee so for those who don’t like the taste of alcohol as much, that’s a good go-to. Our waiter made all the meat for us and was attentive to any refills we needed especially for the kimchi, which my friend loved having with the meat.Only thing I was a little disappointed in was how quickly it felt like they were trying to turn tables over and get us out. Our waiter was quick and efficient in getting our orders and grilling the meat, which was fine. However, before we even finished our last piece of meat on the grill, a busboy came over and asked if he could clean our table up and take everything already. We were there for exactly 1 hour only and it felt like we were being rushed out, which proved to be true when they said they had a reservation after. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy your food with friends, I don’t recommend coming here at least during busy hours. However, if you’re just looking for a place to fill yourself with some good meat, then this place will do.
