It was a building purchased by Donald Judd in the 60s and was Judds studio and residence. You can see Judds permanent installation work and the furniture he used, as well as beautiful interiors and furniture that fit his philosophy. The best part was that the guide was an artist, so he had a good understanding of Judd, and he knew a lot about the times and the characters around him. The guide did not give memorized explanations, but rather a brief description of the overall story. It is said that the only building in New York City is the only place where the entire building is used for its original purpose without being rented. The tour takes about 75 minutes, but reservations are required. You must make a reservation a few weeks before your visit. How nice would it be to work in a workshop like this?

2021-10-17An incredible space (a five story building in Soho) that helps you understand the work and life of Donald Judd. The problem: the lack of a proper explanation by Judd’s on-site guide. If you don’t know who Judd was or what he stood for, you will end up the visit without knowing anything about him (unless someone on your group has asked). My piece of advice: do your homework before visiting the foundation, if not you will end up properly confused by the lack of motivation and explanation of the guide.

2018-03-24I visited the Donald Judd exhibit about 2 years ago and had a wonderful tour. The guides were very informative and interesting to hear the stories about how Judd worked. I loved looking at the Dan Flavens work on the top floor. This building was so important to Donald Judds use of proportions that it is a significant insight into how he created his work. If you like Donald Judd this is a must-do visit, enjoy!

2018-04-19Definately worth the time to visit - especially if youve been to or are planning to go to Marfa. The space is fascinating from an art history-, architecture/design-, and NYC history-persepctive. The small group size helps keep it uncluttered and intimate, while allowing for questions. Helps to have some knowledge of late 60s/70s art.

2016-11-24If youre an artist who lucks into buying a building in a neighborhood thats slated for demolition but then turns into a thriving cultural scene in the nations densest city, some day random people might want to stop by your home and wish they owned some extremely rectangular metal sculptures too
