The instructor was fine. The place itself is very cold, unwelcolming and a bit alienating. Was not racially/culturally diverse. The atmosphere felt very businesslike with no warmth. I absolutely prefer a more inclusive setting. I would highly recommend that people of color looking to feel included or a sense of connection do not patronize this place.
I had a beautiful meditation in a peaceful setting. Unfortunately, when picking up my son from their children’s area, I found him in tears. One of the women watching him told me she did not notice two other boys bullying him. They had taken his doll from him and were playing ‘keep away’. I brought my son to what I thought was a safe place. I’m truly disappointed.
Hands down this is my favorite spot in all of New York City. The teacher and the teachings are sublime, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. I so highly recommend a visit to Buddhists and Non Buddhists alike. There is something for everyone on offer here. Inner Peace. Who doesnt want more of that?!
I went a couple of times to join the lunch time meditation. While the Monday and Tuesday mediations were amazing, Wednesday and Thursday instructors deploy a different style. It is hard for me to take the time in the middle of the day and I really look forward to 30 minutes of the absence of thoughts and guided silence. It is bliss that carries you through the rest of the day. The instructors on Mondays and Tuesday provide direct and powerful instructions, are sparse but effective with their words. On Wednesdays and Thursdays you will receive chattiness and conversational suggestions instead. I am certain the instructors mean very well, but it is too much....
After years of seeking meaning to my life I HAVE FOUND IT!Great Place to learn How to Meditate and to listen to Buddhas Teachings which give you Lasting Peace and Happiness. The Resident Teacher Kadam Morten is The Man!! His Teachings our so Practical,Funny,Inspiring and I could go on and on but you get the point.Any of his GP classes are suitable for any level from beginners to advance.
An oasis of peace in a chaotic city. Kadampa Meditation center has enabled me to utilize meditation as a tool to keep calm and carry on.Living in NYC can be exhausting if we react to every challenge that comes up. Now more than ever, a peaceful mind is a powerful mind and being able to react from a space of peace can dissolve conflict. Kadampa Meditation center is the perfect space to recharge and learn how to manage the only thing we can control on this planet...our own mind. I highly recommend !
I first discovered meditation in college 24 years ago, and since then attending many classes and teachings all over the world. Yet I still havent found a place that compares to KMCNYC. So stoked every time I attend a class here. Forget the meditation apps, this is the real thing. Meditation and teachings direct from the ancient yogis. It doesnt get better!
Wonderful Center, very welcoming and friendly for beginners, profound teachings that are made amazingly accessible and relevant plus instructions on time-tested meditation techniques that have a positive impact on you and those around you, not just make you feel good.
An oasis in New York City.. Meditation classes for everyone, simple but extensive bookstore, an exquisite atrium, and finally, but most importantly, welcoming, kind people. In a busy city where its easy to have feelings like things are sometimes out of control, overwhelming, or whatever, this is a location where one can authentically find some peace.
This Kadampa Jewel is a treasure for every living being to find inner peace and happiness. Under the compassionate guidance and wisdom of Kadam Morten and his impeccable Kadampa teachings, KMCNYC is a blessed and sacred space that transforms ordinary mundane lives into extraordinary lives of great meaning!
The Kadampa Meditation Center in NY is an ideal place to meditate and find sincere friends. Although all classes are currently in English, several staff members speak Spanish. In addition to a Gompa (meditation room) with traditional Buddhas the KMC has a bookstore as well as a gift shop. Visit it, you will not regret it.

2022-05-28Im a remote student and I feel so lucky to be able to access these profound teachings through online classes. At times I can attend the live events, but due to work and parenting conflicts, their online options are a lifesaver. Sometimes I join the livestream classes and retreats and the Zoom discussions or I listen to recordings of the classes at the times that suit my schedule. Ive been to a number of Buddhist centers and participated in different Buddhist retreats over the years, but I never found teachings and the Buddhist path as clearly presented as in this tradition. Their teachers are knowledgeable and inspiring while the staff is friendly and helpful. This training has impacted every aspect of my life. If you seek the wisdom of Buddhist teachings and wish to approach your life with joyful purpose, I highly recommend the Kadampa Meditation Center.

2021-07-27I had been looking for a really good Buddhism center in NYC, and I was really impressed with what I saw on my first visit. Ive only been here once so far, so take this with a little grain of salt, but the space was absolutely lovely. The evening class took place in front of this incredible shrine, that really added to the atmosphere. Even though the teacher that night was a substitute, I was really impressed with the Dharma talk and his teaching style. I came away feeling really good and at peace with myself.

2020-11-19Its a truly incredible place. This center has plenty of experienced teachers, so anyone can find a teacher who feels perfect for them. The schedule is very accommodating, with classes as early as 7:30am so you can meditate before work. Lunchtime, evenings and weekends are well covered. All of the classes are easily accessible to beginners. They offer practical instruction on how to meditate. Most importantly however, they teach practical advice and Buddhist philosophy that helps us tackle life outside of meditation – because theres little point in being peaceful for 20 minutes a day and a raging lunatic for the other 1420 minutes! 😂

2020-03-03This is a truly amazing place. It is so warm and welcoming. They have a bunch of wonderful classes you can attend at various times. Its also the quietest place Ive ever been to in the city. Im new to meditation but I felt really at home here. I sat in on a guided meditation which was wonderful. I highly recommend this meditation center. So happy I found them!
