Terrible customer service experience.Met a friend for tea on Sunday a little after 4, they were supposed to be open til 5. At 4:45, the guy behind the counter starts cleaning the tables and tells us 5 minutes until close. I assumed I misheard him with the mask, but someone walked in at 4:49 and was told they were closed, then they told us all we needed to leave. Sent a message to the company about it on their website a week ago. No response 🤷🏻♂️
The coffee was strong. I loved that if you order your coffee/food for here they serve you with actual plates and cups. Not disposable! I didnt know coffee houses still did that! Love the environment so cute and unique. The pastries werent that great, the shelves were pretty bare and food stale. Maybe it was just time of day.
I don’t put 5 stars to any venue unless I have been there for 5 times. Only experiencing the venue for a few times I can objectively assess it.Kaffe 1668 South is a nice place to have a coffee in TriBeCa. I passed it several times but never noticed it. I discovered it thanks to my friend. Most of all I adore its ambience and interior. The coffeeshop is literally divided into two salons. There is a huge wooden table where 10-12 people can easily fit in with no intention to make a mess. The second so called area is filled up with separate small tables for couples. The high ceiling and big vans up there maintain a good balance of air in the room. In addition, right by the window there installed a nice wooden bench where 3 people can seat and enjoy their food and have a talk.As for Coffee, I would score it 8 out of 10 which is very good to my point of view. The same concerns pastry.Overall, I enjoyed my time in Kaffe 1668 South.
I ordered the open road, which is a basic breakfast plate with eggs, meat (I got sausage), potatoes and pancakes (or French toast). I was utterly satisfied and felt it was well worth the fifteen dollars for a large brunch. My girlfriend also got the pulled pork, roasted onion, and jack cheese scramble that was so good I wish I ordered it. Overall great brunch!
One of the better shops you can go to, hard to be disappointed even with the most exacting standards! An independent roaster, check. The baristas are well trained and will answer whatever questions you have about the coffee fluently, check. They know how to make properly executed espresso and/or steamed milk, check. They may only have one espresso on offer at a time, but its good and has character. The space is comfortable, cozy, contemporary and had an aesthetic of its own. So yeah, maybe the coffee wont make you double take but its perfectly good. Were lucky to have shops that cover all these bases.
I dont post reviews much but seriously! I dont get why this is rated so highly. The food might be great I guess...didnt try it. All I know is I ordered a flat white and it came in a 12oz cup instead of a 6oz cup with twice as much milk in it as it should have had, the milk was tepid and turned my stomach and the espresso was burnt. For $4.65!!!! You would expect a perfect drink at a place which charges that much. Definitely wont go back...lots of better options in the neighbourhood where you can get a nice strong, flavourful, balanced coffee for less. I would avoid this place if you are particular about drinks being made properly. I give it two stars because the atmosphere is genuinely nice. Only reason I went in is because It was inviting and I needed to use the restroom and sit for a bit to read something, and my top favourite coffee in the neighbourhood (Laughing Man) is only takeaway.
I had heard a lot about this place so I decided to finally check it out. I like the vibe - it is good to work out of, especially with the wooden tables and a free wifi with a decent speed. They have enough seating, so youre likely to find a spot mostly. However, their coffee wasnt up to my expectations. I got an oat mocha and it tasted like a regular latte. The taste and flavor of mocha was missing. I come to this conclusion after having tried over a 100 oat mochas - it being my go-to drink. The coffee beans were smooth but not strong as per my taste.
Went there with my daughter. I love coffee and have gluten restrictions so decided to try them out. Atmosphere is nice, but definitely overpriced for mediocre quality. My cappuccino was very blah, sandwich was ok but nothing special. Wait time was long. Would not recommend.
Updated: The coffee has really gone downhill over the years and several other places have opened up. The coffee doesnt taste as fresh as it once did and much of the nuance is gone from each cup.The used to have several different regional offerings for pour-overs and I havent seen that the last few times I went in either. Im not sure if the management, ownership, clientele, or data is different but the place I used to love has really changed.I will say the employees are great though. Really nice and top notch.Original: Best coffee in Tribeca. Kind of pricy though. Worth it for a treat (or if money isnt a concern)
This cafe is so awesome! I really like it here, the coffee is fresh and the drinks are made with care. Its going to cost you a bit more, but it is something special. The interior is welcoming and people come here to catch up with friends. There are seating areas downstairs for studying.
I go here almost every weekday. the baristas will remember you and speak with you. They take care in their drinks and are always good. If you plan on coming here for a chance to sit down with your laptop or hang out awhile youre unlikely to find a seat. Its usually, but not always, crowded. They have great coffee and tea selections.
Super cute TriBeCa spot. I loved the coffee. The amazing vibe. I went there on Saturday and Sunday and there was always a table for me to do some quick work before starting my day (I came around 9:30/10am. Super nice barista and overall very attentive.Their pastry collection also looks fantastic and my only regret is not trying one. You can easily miss the coffee shop if you are not looking for it. But if you do find it, it is amazing.
I ordered a hot chocolate and it was just Meh. Nothing special or crafty on how they make their hot chocolate. It tastes like over the counter powdered chocolate, and the milk over powered the chocolate. It should have been the other way around.Their chocolate chip cookies are not warm. The place has a nice vibe, modern atmosphere, but nothing special about the food quality. Keep in mind that I only tried the hot chocolate and not the food.
The coffee is OK, not the best pour over Ive had. Ive been here twice on weekends and noticed that the place attracts a lot of table hoarders with laptops, making it really hard to sit down even a party of two. I find no-laptop policies rude, but this being one of the few rated coffee shops downtown that opens on weekends, its pretty disappointing not to find a place to sit.
Great coffee, friendly staff and a really great place to grab your laptop and get some work done. Its located close to Borough of Manhattan Community College so the place fills up pretty quickly with college students, as well as solopreneurs trying to bang out a few emails so space is at a premium. But the large wooden working tables with benches makes the shared space less claustrophobic. I havent tried out their lunch menu, but if you just want a quick bite, their chocolate croissants are pretty tasty!
Great little coffee house by the WTC. Coffee is excellent, both espresso drinks and brewed cups. Multiple brews every day. Staff was friendly and efficient, especially during the morning rush. Free wireless with an amusing password. Enough space so that seats were always available. Clientele ranged from dads with strollers to suits. Great place!
Upon entering, I was greeted by the industrial decor and pleasant smell of coffee. My first impression of the food was from a small glass fridgerator filled with grab and go selections from the menu. Priced a little bit more expensive, I was expecting the prices on the menu to be similar or higher, but was happy to see the prices were reasonable, around $10 an order. Pastries averaged around $3.50-4, and coffee about the same. It was pretty busy while I was ordering my food, and the line creates a bottleneck which traps the person at the register. A little uncomfortable but manageable. When I visited, there were more people waiting for their food than eating. I remarked to my friend, do they actually make food?, half joking, half worried wed never get fed. I turned my head and it arrived. Wait was about 15 minutes on a Wednesday, about noonish. Not too bad.Good ventilation from having the door propped open too.
The best cup of coffee Ive found thus far.Theres a lot of great coffee in this neighborhood amidst the abundance of Pret and Starbucks locations around. Ive tried most if not all. Kaffe is by far the most wholesome, full-bodied and memorable cup available. Sure, the coffee of the day is $3.00, and if you want to choose your roast and have it prepared old-school pour-over style, youll need to dish out between $4 - $5 but every cup is worth the quality youre getting. If you want cheap coffee, go to your local McDs and get exactly what you pay for. As for the rest of this place... the food looks very organic and natural but I havent tried any yet. Their chocolate chip sea-salt cookie is fantastic and pairs well with a cup of the Sertao roast (my favorite here).Well-worth stopping in and trying a cup!
I like the place. I love the drinks and I like the ambience. The only reason why I gave it three stars is because they take too long - 10 to 15 minutes in rush-hour times - just to make you a drink. I always have mixed feelings about stepping in there if I don’t have plenty of time.
Great coffee and the shop has a good vibe to it.Most of the coffee starts at $3 and its all made fresh after you order on a coffee maker they looks like pistons. If you can put up with the yuppies and stroller nazis that usually have their coffee to stay then sitting down in the store is a nice time
A real hole in the wall of a coffee shop, but quite frankly I think thats the aesthetic they are going for. As a non-coffee drinker, this is one of the better places to go as far as options go, their teas are rather good and fresh, and the hot chocolate isnt half bad either. The food has always looked decent, but something always holds me back on it, probably the fact that you can pay less for better food anywhere else around, but I digress. Prices arent any worse than the other places around, so it ultimately comes down to preference.
This is my absolute favorite coffee shop in NYC. The decor, the mood, the staff - all perfect. They do a really good job of rotating the coffee selection, specifically in terms of region. Most coffee places have terrible baked goods, but theirs exceeded my expectations.
The espresso here is quite good, but still lacking compared to a real top quality coffee bar. This may be the best coffee bar in the neighborhood though, so I do visit regularly. The cafe is dark and quite friendly. The Batista are all studenty and urban cool - they all look like models from a new designers first portfolio. The biscotti are nice too.
Really glad to finally try Kaffe 1668.. which is a trendy coffee shop in Tribeca. Got the black cat cold brew. Its very black and strong, but without bitter or sour taste! This was exactly what I needed for a hot summer afternoon. The space is very cozy - can definitely picture myself reading/working or chatting with a friend or two in the cafe.Service was quick and friendly. Will return soon!
Solid espresso (good but Ive had better), delicious pasties (fantastic pan au chocolate and buttermilk biscuit highly recommended; I also appreciate that they keep them in a case so the bugs dont have a party in all that sugar), served in a funky low-light space with a handful of small tables in the back and a huge communal table up front. Best spot in the area.
Kaffe 1664 really embodies the spirit of a cool coffee bar with uber-stylish wood decor and a a long room with benches along the sides making for an intimate space to sit with friends. In a nutshell they serve great coffee made extremely well with a large variety of different roasts and drinks on offer. A selection of pastries and sweet treats are available to supplement your caffeine hit.On the downside, the lighting in the shop is subdued, seating isnt so comfortable and there is no wifi available so this isnt really a place you could relax for any great length of time.
I decided to try this place out after seeing the good reviews on Google. However my experience was less than stellar. Upon arrival I was greeted by the first gentleman with his back to me - manbun in my face - until he decided he was done staring into space. He took my order but before taking payment ran away to do something else (which someone was already doing), and then took my money and ignored the woman behind me. The female barista was very kind and attentive, but when I got my drink, we realized the gentleman had written the order wrong. It happens - no biggie. The barista then made me a new drink and it was delicious. What was amusing however, is a solid 30% of orders after me were also written wrong on the cups as the gentleman kept ignoring people or walking away. How is this guy employed?
Awesome coffee shop in Tribeca! The coffee was dark and strong while not overly bitter or burnt. The service was very friendly and fast. I could probably break my Starbucks habit if I had this great of a coffee shop in my neighborhood. But I guess thats what comes with living in Tribeca!
Im not a coffee snob, but I do enjoy a good cup of Latte. Kaffe 1668 meets you about halfway for those who want a fancier coffee than Bucks. I would directly compare this place to Intelligensia since they seem to have the same coffee offerings. Practically everyone hanging out was using a MacBook, which seems to be the IT thing nowadays with these kids. This is the darkest Ive seen for lighting in a coffee shop. Even the interior colors were dark, and really not at all inviting, but thats the style so I wont rip it. The register person up front was not too knowledgeable of the drinks, so I settled for an Iced Latte. It was pricey yes, but still good. Im glad to have tried this place at least, but I might not be hanging out all too much.
Kaffe 1668 has a truly unique decor, adorned with nearly a dozen adorable wooden- and plush- sheep. Those sheep, combined with the soft lighting results in a nice place to relax in the early afternoon while relaxing. In the morning rush, there are often many students and local workers that slow down the baristas, but their coffee and espresso drinks are definitely worth the wait.
I love Kaffe 1668! There are sheep EVERYWHERE. The espresso drinks are great, and they sell coffee beans as well. Try the latte – soy and almond milk are both available. Wish it was a bit less expensive, but prices are in line with any coffee shop in NY.Its comfy and airy, and theres a lot of seating upstairs and downstairs, with a super clean bathroom, as well as free wifi and outlets. They close LATE, past 8pm most nights. The aesthetic is everything you look for in a coffee shop, and it may be far if youre not in TriBeCa, but DO NOT underestimate the 1/2/3 train because youll jump right down to Chambers St from 14th/6av.
I was shocked because of the sanitary condition and behaviour of one employee, no soap @the bathroom, employee DID NOT properly wash his hands, he was using the bathroom just before me. He kept me waiting for 5 min pretending to clean the bathroom (and we both were already in line for the restroom) but he was obviously not. Customers should always may use the bathroom first. Please guys, use soap while washing your hands after using the bathroom!!!!Although, nice interieur and good coffee. May be very busy.
Purse was stolen here right next to me. Staff was unhelpful. We contacted owner multiple times for video footage, he could not be bothered. Terrible professionalism. I used to go there everyday for my coffee. I no long go there. Also in front of store the glass had a hugeeee crack they have not repaired..That is very dangerous!! Place gets a negative 0 from me. Dont go here unless you enjoy spending your hard earned money on a crap place.
A girlfriend & I went to the late night show, it began promptly at 12:30am and continued straight through, no breaks till after 2:30am. The band was the Fuzz Band out of Hampton VA., the entry was $15 pp what great deal for the dynamic electrifying performances which followed: the band comprised of trumpet, keyboard, bass, guitar, drummer and percussionist-bongo, instruments, while two females and a guy were the vocalists. They were awesome and had us captivated and rockin from beginning to end. If theyre performing near you check them out you wont be disappointed they did jazz of course, but also reggae, r&b, ballads and a lot of their new original works. I purchase cds from them there but theyre on ITunes check them out see for yourself. Drinks we had were great handcrafted but wine by glass is limited and prices outrageous, I thought. The service was good but our highlight of the evening was the entertaining fabulous Fuzz Band.

2022-01-13My everyday(almost)coffee shop. Very cozy and snug and their coffee is great. The only thing is that there is no outlet for laptops but maybe that’s good so there’s more fluid customer influx

2022-06-22Working nomad: good place to sit and do work but doesn’t have a homey feel. Very cookie cutter and overpriced nyc vibe. Food seems meh except for drinks.

2022-03-19Great spot. I ordered the birthday cake latte and a Cookie monster latte. Theyre both delicious and the birthday cake was a bit sweeter. They have a number of different creative coffees to choose from and they are all delicious. The vibe is great and the staff are the nicest!Tables are marble and perfect for the gram too ;)

2022-07-07This is one of my favorite places to buy coffee beans. The roaster they use and the beans they select our top notch. I can’t speak much to the food or drinks but I’m sure they’re excellent. Highly recommended

2022-06-30This nitro brew is so bland and watered down that it barely even tastes like coffee. Waste of $5.60

2022-07-17One of the staff members was quite rude. Other than that generally over priced. You can get better coffee and sandwiches for half the price at the corner store a block away on Murray and West Broadway

2019-04-18A decent coffee shop that deserves its location and space. Unlike a growing number of cafes in downtown trying to make their atmosphere quick, instant, and somewhat hectic for better customer circulation, this place provides much more relaxed and cozy ambience while maintaining friendly service. If I happen to pass by the area again, I will definitely make a stop here.

2019-11-18Meh! I was surprised at the persistently high reviews for this coffee shop. While the coffee is tasty and the staff are friendly, they could be more attentive to ensure a level of cleanliness. Cups and plates are left on the table, and napkins and other small trash are lying on the floor. The table I sat at was also annoyingly wobbly requiring a napkin wedge.

2019-11-14The coffee is good and the tables are not so comfortable that you can stay in groups for a long time. It’s comfortable and has healthy food options as well as all decor for sale. (Sheep.) it’s super dark in here.
