I had a wonderful dinner here last night. Food was authentic, fresh, and creative- impeccibly plated and with generous portions. Three tasting menus were offered, at various price points. We selected the mid-tier and high-tier to share. While pricey, we felt it to be an excellent value. The decor offers a genuine trip to Kyoto or Osaka, very nice decor for a special occasion. Nice bar, with limited selection, but high end options. The service is Michilin-class, ultra professional, while not overbearing. Halfway through our meal, their largest circular booth opened up and the staff insisted to upgrade us to their best table. A free tasting of the bartenders favorite whisky was delivered to our table as a surprise. They made sure we had a wonderful evening, and we felt like family by the time we left. Were still talking about the dinner, highly recommend!
This has been our favorite restaurant to get meals from in this pandemic. Based on the quality of the food, presentation, attention to details and the japanese level of customer service, the $75 5-course dinner experience has a much higher value than $75 and therefore a money-well-spent in my books. This is truly the closest youll get to enjoying an exceptional japanese meal in Japan without traveling there. We highly encourage anyone who is a food enthusiast to try this restaurant.
This spot has been on my radar since they opened. We went on chilly evening, not too long after they opened for the day, so it was pretty quiet. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a manager (?) with a warm, welcoming smile. We receive hot towels to cleanse our hands before the meal, which I always appreciated at traditional Japanese restaurants. We had one of their course menu, Kai Course, which is a five course menu. The first course was the appetizer, beautifully plated. Everything was amazing, both the presentation and flavor, perfection! The second course was indicated as “Daily Special” which was sushi and sashimi. They were so fresh and sliced thick, super fresh. They were like butter! Melt in your mouth good!!!The third course was “Grill” and on this day, they had Chicken Hoba Yaki. The most interesting presentation of the evening. The food is cooked inside of a dried magnolia leaf. Chicken was tender and juicy, and the veggies were great too. Loved the miso flavor! The fourth course was Ramen, which I thought was really interesting item to be served at such elegant, upscale, sophisticated spot. This ramen was certainly elegant and delicious!Last but not least, dessert! “Today’s Surprise” was three kinds of mizu yokan. We received regular or Traditional Yokan, Chestnut Yokan, and Chocolate Yokan. They were all tasty and comforting. After the dinner, our waiter brought out another set of hot wet towel to clean our hands again. Nice! Service was impeccable, very polite and informative. We enjoyed the dinner tremendously, everything was prepared with high quality ingredients, beautifully presented like artworks, and flavor the match. I would love to go back again for more of their delightful Japanese cuisine!
10 stars if I could! Lovely dinner with the best service and atmosphere. You just have to try it and give it time don’t rush!!! The tea at the end just ends it at the perfect note. Owner said they order it from Japan once a year and it’s so rare, you’ll never know what you’re having till you ask!!!
A quietly hidden gem, and an absolute must. Everything from the greeting at the door, to the food and service at the table. The atmosphere is perfect. They serve small plates, timed out to perfection where you can fully enjoy and look forward to all that was ordered. Truly made me rethink all the 5 stars I’ve given to restaurants in the past... looking forward to returning back!
Went during the soft opening with a friend and we had the short course for the day. Everything was authentic, tasty, unique, and meticulously crafted and curated. Memorable dishes included a Japanese pumpkin soup with plum, fresh sashimi from Japan, an egg custard risotto with crab, and a roasted wagyu prepared inside a large magnolia leaf. The setting is very intimate and zen, and the service comes at the highest level of hospitality and care. Great place for a date or with a close group of friends - memorable and educational experience guaranteed. Cant wait to try the full course!
I was recommended this restaurant during their soft-opening period. I chose to order the longer Ka course, which I highly recommend. The flavors in this Kaiseki-style Hida regional menu were wonderful—rich, hearty, comforting. I was particularly impressed by Kaikagetsus sense of presentation: a course baked in a magnolia leaf and sashimi served inside a bowl of ice were highlights. The restaurants interior is delightfully old-world; their overhead lights even flicker gently like a gas flame. The music was subtle and relaxing.Highly recommended!

2022-07-03Great place for a Japanese set menu with a variety of noodles, meat and fish. Amazing service was provided throughout the meal. It’s a bit pricey but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

2021-09-27I had the 6 courses one, which the price is reasonable to me for this quality of foods! And their serve is great, the restaurant is very clean too. I really love their appetizers and the rice dumpling with great fish broth! The beef sushi and sashimis are one of the best in town as well! The only thing I’m little picky about is their sukiyaki, I personally don’t eat much salty things so I think their broth was little salty to me, but everything else is really good! I would recommend others and surely will come again :)

2022-01-07Did the $130 course dinner. So good and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Sad I forgot to take a picture of the waygu nigiri. One of my faves. The staff were also great 🙌

2021-09-27This was an amazing fine dining experience, Japanese style. Tons of attention to detail, balanced compositions, rare ingredients, and still affordable. Every course was a trip, designed for maximum enjoyment. Its unbelievable that only two people were working the house, one in the kitchen and one in the frontend. Im excited to go back and try a different seasonal menu.

2021-09-17I would give them 10 stars if I could. It’s so far the best meal I have this year. The quality of food was insanely good considering it’s just $115 or $80 per person ($115 sounds expensive but the ingredient itself probably worth that much already). The service was top notch - very attentive server, extremely knowledgeable with the food, very polite and dress so properly. I love everything about this restaurant. I would recommend it to everyone foodies.

2021-11-22A definitely recommended and most original Japanese Kaiseiki restaurant! This restaurant changes their menu every season, but it always have Hida beef in the set (one of the most famous beef from Japan).I would recommend to try their set with Sukiyaki and Beef sushi for the first time. It’s super delicate and delicious. The beef would literally melt in your mouth, which is a super special experience. The service here is also overwhelming. They add water almost every minute, pull chair for you, introducing every dish in details, and fulfills almost all of your needs. To be mentioned, the set is usually around 90 - 135, which is pricy but definitely worth it!A hidden gem in the east village, really recommended!

2022-07-04Very good deal to have traditional Japanese Kaiseki in lower east side. There were two options on the menu, one with wagyu one with out ($85 only, but one dishes less than the other).Definitely will visit here in the future.

2022-04-11Damn. On a whim I checked and got a last minute reservation.First off, this quaint unassuming restaurant stands out amongst the hustle bustle of the LES especially on a weekend. The service is top notch...the server was patient, polite and attentive.. What more can you ask for. He was knowledgeable on everything the restaurant was serving which is not always the case with even high end places.3 menus... $90/120/160. You get more dishes and the better stuff with the higher end range. Id say go for the hida beef dishes because thats their specialty here.Side note... What is hida beef?Hida beef is actually a variety of wagyu beef. Hida beef cattle are a breed of Japanese black cattle that have been raised in Gigu Prefecture (where Takayama is located) for at least 14 months. What sets Hida beef apart from other beef is its muscle and marbling. Some say that this comes from the fresh, clean air and pristine waters of the Gifu region. Whatever the reason, it results in beautifully tender meat.Their menu rotates with every season but a constant would be the Hida beef. My attached photos would be the appetizer (eggplant, scallops, sea bream), a sashimi plate (king salmon, fatty Tuna, blue fin tuna, some fancy shrimp, and a type of white fish), miso gratin sea urchin in a half shell, tofu dumpling with sea bream in a dashi broth, the main courses would be a nabe pot (hot pot) with hida beef. The 2 ways of prep would be as a sukiyaki or as a shabu shabu dish. The sukiyaki would be more flavorful... Id suggest get one of each so you can compare. And lastly, hida beef prepped as sushi over rice in 3 ways. Radish topping, uni topping and the walnut reduction. Take note of contrasting flavors with the hida beef as you sample each one.All in all... A wonderful experience and well worth the prices. The one thing that I found uninspiring would be the dessert. I mean it wasnt bad... But after the extraordinary meal it seemed very ordinary. Ill definitely check it out as the menu changes again.

2021-08-21Had their 5 course omakase with an upgrade. Ohmigod. Fish is so insanely fresh and their service is top notch. Everything was well represented and there’s only one person/manager who handles all the patrons. The place is very romantic and quiet so you get a ton of service. Best of all it’s right next door to insomnia cookie. Lol! The Waygu beef melts in your mouth. I had raw waygu beef sushi and the host explained all our dishes and pieces to us and gave recommendations on how it should be eaten. The bathroom is beautiful and I’m obsessed with their aesop hand soap. I liked it so much I was googling where I can buy the same hand soap. What a great chance in a lifetime experience. Thank you! Fantastic food and service.
