While the service was good, I felt very rushed. We had wine, apps, soup and entrees and were out in 35 minutesAlso, the Aphrodite Salad did not have fresh figs or shredded fennel and the cheese was just a slice melted on the top. With so many restaurants to choose from, I see no reason to return to this one
We have been wanting to try this place for a while, however we were sadly disappointed. We started with the arancini which was good but dry inside instead of creamy like other restaurants. I ordered the filet mignon Slovakia and asked for it to be cooked medium. The meat was well done and tasted awful. I had asked for mashed potato’s as a side but was told they were out. My husband ordered the chicken siciliano which was completely flavorless. For the amount of food you receive, this restaurant is insanely overpriced. Service was okay but slow. We were there for over an hour and a half for just apps and entrees for 2 people. We will not be returning to this restaurant again.Edit: in response to whomever responded to my review…you are a restaurant, your main goal is to have a full house every night is it not? That is no excuse for long wait times. There was 1 table inside and 10-12 tables outside, however half of the tables were not eating food, they were drinking and watching the band. And since you claim it was a full house, I find it hard to believe you had the time to try every sautéed dish before it left the kitchen, but I guess if you’re trying every dish , maybe that’s why it took so long. Maybe next time you could try the steak too as you would have realized it was severely over cooked. It’s upsetting to me that a business owner would get so defensive over a review and respond to a paying customer in the way you did. Had I known that this is how you conduct yourself, I never would have supported your business and spent my hard earned money at your restaurant.
I went to Kainos with my family tonight, overall I really enjoyed the food! Though I was not extremely impressed with our service. I’m a server myself and have worked at restaurants for years, as well as my family who both have many years of restaurant experience, so I’m never one to be quick to judge when it comes to service, you never know what’s going on in someone’s life.We had Makenzie I believe was her name, though I couldn’t really be sure because she did not leave a stellar or lasting impression. There was really no enthusiasm in her service, and she did not seem to care too much. My father was not a fan of the house salad with the blue cheese he had ordered, he did not eat any of it and asked to have it taken off since he paid an upcharge for the salad and did not enjoy it. She didn’t seem to care, then told him no he can’t have it taken off, no talk with a manager at all. Now like I said, I’m a server myself and I know for a fact that the salad could be taken off by a manager, that 2 dollar up charge could definitely have been rectified. Before we left she said good bye but only as she walked away, her greet was sub-par and she seemed to have no real care for how her guests were enjoying their meal.I will most likely eat here again because I love Greek food, and very much enjoyed what I had. But I do hope to have better service on my next visit. This definitely isn’t a diss on our server, I hope makenzie makes good money and has great guests, but I am hoping if this is seen by Kainos’ team that there will be a push for better service, more enthusiasm and better attentiveness!
One star for the memory of Gene Koons, Jr. Kainos was his retirement gig. Not only did he work for less than minimum wage, trying to help get this place off the ground for a mean spirited cook/owner, and this place took precious years off his life. He was never paid, he was treated like DIRT. RIP Gene, you were are a good, kind man and deserved so much better!!
The igloo experience was beautiful and the set up with Alexa/music is why I gave this place a 2. Overall the food quality was horrid and service was a disgrace. The igloo can hold up to 8 people and because my friend reserved the table for 3 and I would have been the 4th the hostess didnt want to let me in. Server had to step in so I can have dinner. I love Gyro and this was the worst Ive ever had. From the seasoning used and how rubbery it was everyone was disgusted. My friends lobster ravioli was cold, and the margaritas we received tasted like gasoline. To make things worse server didnt bring utensils so one couple had a fork and another a spoon. The bill was over 300 for poor food and quality.
Thank you Kainos for a wonderful night cap! Came to Kainos to meet some dear friends, one from out of town and was welcomed with excellent customer service and the bartender Krystal was on point as usual with the drinks! Thanks for staying open a little later until we finished! Great meeting place!
OUTSTANDING FOOD AND SERVICE!!!!! For our 10 year Anniversary we decided to give Kainos a try. We had heard good things from friends and we love greek food and so we went. We were not disappointed. From the minute we walked in the door we were greeted by a smiling hostess. The bar area was hopping as we walked by to our table. What a view we had. This place has to be incredible in the summer time when you can dine on the patio. Our waiter was Jerel ,a 5 star waiter hands down. We seriously had the best service. He gave us great recommendations and we went for the Calamari. Presentation off the chart gorgeous. All the dishes we ordered were super tasty and plentiful. Biggest Moussaka piece I have ever received in a restaurant. We loved everything! At the end of the night we were surprised by a platter of desserts. We were in shock. We had asked Jerel in the beginning to take our picture since it was our Anniversary and he had some fun with us.We didnt expect this. The whole staff wished us a happy anniversary.❤ We cant say enough good things about this restaurant. Its location is so nice by the water. The atmosphere inside is great as well. We will definitely be back and will spread the news how great this place is!
Kainos to me is a little paradise. The people are nice, the food is nice, the pricing is nice, the scenery is nice, the customer service is more than nice. I keep inviting my friends who are willing to experience a piece of paradise to Kainos. And sofar they all have been falling in love with the place one after the other. If you happen to be downtown Rochester, Kainos is the place to check out. Its a beautiful place to go have diner or whatever with friends or family by the Genesee river. I think Kainos should decorate me for being such a good marketer for them! Right guys? But, Im doing this first for you guys out there. You should experience Kainos. I promise you wont regret it.
I currently hold a position as a server for the front of the house here at Kainos Greek & Italian restaurant, and it is an amazing experience. So much so, that I could never imagine working for a fine dining establishment near the heart of downtown Rochester!!! I invite everyone to stop on by and enjoy and evening of beautiful sights, exquisite food, and upscale service.
If you would like to have traditional oversized Greek entrees and have a terrific view of Downtown Rochester - This is the place. When you first walk into this establishment, it is a scene of an accentuated stereotype of greek family restaurants - Greek statues, coliseum pillars, marble everywhere, and large murals of majestic grecian gods. Although the restaurants dishes are typical of greek cuisine in the Rochester area, their dishes are tasteful and not over cooked - Their lamb and beef entrees are very tender. They also serve the famous greek flaming cheese appetizer. For a great view of downtown Rochester and an experience of greek ambiance, head over to Kainos Restaurant.
I was there Saturday and had the worst meal ever! I had been there pre Covid and it was fantastic. I am not sure what happened, however I was terribly disappointed.i realise that help has become difficult to get. I believe that if you cant run and operate it appropriately then dont open and food goodness sakes dont charge those ridiculous prices for food that is not even warm or edible. I wont be returning and good luck to you, I hope things improve for you!
Great service and nice atmosphere. Our server was polite and timely. This was the first time she had make Shirley Temples and an Arnold Palmer. She did excellent! I would only go back if I had to, Im not a huge fan of Greek food but the ones who are say the food is good.
This meal was a pure let down. We arrived on time for our reservation, didnt see a server for 25 minutes. For some reason the hostess checked on us, and after telling her we havent seen a server yet, she left, only to return 5 minutes later to take our orders. Due to a live band ten feet from us, we verbalized, and pointed to our selections on the menu. 15 minutes later, half of our food arrived, including a food item we didnt order. The woman told us what the item was and she wasnt charging us for it. Ten minutes later, the hostess came back to ask us if we got everything. We explained, that we hadnt received the rest of our food. She said she forgot to place one of the orders. Ten minutes later, the rest of the food arrived and my husband asked for a coke. He was brought a diet coke, and when he asked for a regular coke, he was told that the coke came from the regular coke button, so they must not have regular coke. The salad I ordered, not only was missing the salad dressing, but only vaguely resembled the description on the menu. Aphrodite salad was supposed to have mixed greens, shaved fennel, toasted walnuts etc. My salad was 95% iceberg lettuce, no shaved fennel and had untoasted walnut halves. As I was given the salad dressing, my husband asked for the check. Without looking at the check first, he gave the hostess his credit card. Not surprising, is that we were charged for the item that we didnt order, and were told that we wouldnt be charged for it . This entire evening wouldve been more tolerable had we had some cocktails, but currently the restaurant doesnt have a liquor license.
Food was delicious!!! I has the Greek salad with chicken, mom had a gyro and sister had a pasta dish…we then had to try the lobster macaroni and cheese and omg the best I’ve every had…all meals were perfect and even had left overs…the waiter was very informative and attentive…the outside dining on the patio overlooking the river was very relaxing…if we didn’t live so far away (Syracuse) we would absolutely revisit…thank you Kaino’s for an enjoyable lunch !!
First time in the restaurant, we are in from out of town. The food, we did a sampling of appetizers, was excellent. The sauce for the meatball sampler was phenomenal! Souvlaki was some of the best Ive had. Our server Alexa was very good, she took wonderful care of my wife and me. Definitely will stop here again! Thanks Alexa!
We had dinner outside last night on the patio and it was great! The view is amazing and even though it was cold out (it is October in Rochester!), we had heaters to keep us warm. We were a party of 8, split into two tables, and everyone liked their entree choice. Wine was good as well. Our waiter, Nate, was efficient, super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend you go and eat outside at Kainos this Fall!
First time visit so we opted for variety getting small plates and appetizers- we were not disappointed! The food was great and was only topped by the service we received from Alexa- bubbly, effecient and helpful. (She also does a fantastic plate presentation for desserts!)The Mountains
My son made the reservation for a table of 6. Had to wait for hostess blocking people coming or going to rest room. We were seated and we were given a paper of mothers day special $60- per person or $110 for 2. Which we were not aware since it was not on the website. We could not order outside of menu which we were not aware. Outside of soup and baklava there was nothing Greek which is why we chose restaurant. So we go to order and she made a round for each appetizer, another round each person for soup, another round each for meal, and so forth till we finished I am 59 and that is the first time I ordered in that manner. The waitress brought my our meals before the soup. She didnt even know how to place an order. I dont blame the waitress that is management issue. So this mothers day will definitely be a memory but not what we expected.
Recently went there to celebrate a Bridal Shower (on Mother’s Day) my parents threw for my niece. The food was aweful... not Greek at all. Just bland and blah. Totally understaffed. Half the party had to wait for their food at least 15 minutes after other half received theirs.Though orders were preordered, they still got orders wrong. It took over a half hour to get refills on water. We had to clear our own tables in order to have the bridal shower cake that my parents brought in. The only plus was the wonderful live harp and guitar duo... they were amazing. I will never go there again and suggest you don’t either. My parents were not happy at all but still paid the bill and a fine tip. Even gave our 1 server the chicken French that was NOT ordered instead of getting money back. My parents have class unfortunately this place does not unless you give them five stars.
Zero Star: Showed up for our 7PM reservation to discover they had lost their liquor license. This was not mentioned on the web site when I looked at the menu. Asked waiter about it and he said it was all over their social media which I dont follow. Asked if we could leave but not forfeit the reservation deposit. He was quite rude/anxious/embarrassed and said he would look into it. We didnt feel comfortable ordering food here after that strange interaction. So we left and were charged the $50 anyway. Ridiculous. Stay away from this *establishment*.
We had dinner in one of the igloos! The food was delicious and it was one of the best dinners I have ever had. Service was great, igloo was warm and the ambiance was excellent. I cant wait to go back and try other items on the menu! We will be back and have found a new favorite restaurant in Rochester! Thank you for an amazing night!!
So first of all, the owner of this restaurant will HARASS you all over social media if you leave a negative review. He’s been in my Yelp and FB messages ever since I left my review and I tagged the restaurant in my post. Now, as for my recent experience at their restaurant, that left A LOT to be desired.First of all, we waited 20 minutes just to be acknowledged and have our order taken. Next it took at least 45 minutes for our meals to be taken out. The server apologized one time for how long it took for the food to come out after our appetizers, but when the food was delivered it was clear that the food had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while, based on the congealed nature of the sauce. Further, there was so much thyme in my meal that it was like pulling a pine forest out of my mouth. The scallops were so burnt that the “Chef owner” (as he calls himself) brought out 2 more, and then offered some weird excuse for how overdone they were by claiming you just “don’t know what the bottom looks like until it’s already burnt” as if he’s super new to cooking in general and doesn’t own a spatula to flip them, I guess. Now, the food is forgivable. Everyone has an off night. What I found disgusting, however, was the fact that the owner seemed incapable of keeping his mask on. He did not wear it while cooking, he did not wear it behind the bar (where he was enjoying a beer with some customers) and he did not wear it coming up to our table. In fact, when we returned to retrieve a forgotten item the owner, Jeff, used his HAND to cover his mouth while he chuckled about not having a mask. The servers couldn’t seem to figure out how to put theirs over their noses, but who is surprised when the owner flagrantly disregards the health and safety of his guests? To top it off he said the entertainment that night was “bad” so he sent them home and played music on the Alexa. The music was a mix of club music from like 2008 and so loud you couldn’t hear the person sitting across from you. While they did turn it down when several people complained, it’s confusing to see a place with about 8 customers in it and paying well over $100 for a meal to be forced to listen to such overwhelmingly loud music.Anyway, I can’t wait to see your reply Jeff! I’m sure it will bring us both joy to watch you further embarrass yourself and alienate potential customers.
Im giving 2 starts cause Im trying to be nice, food is overpriced for almost up to par greek food. Sadly I was expecting better, instead I got the worst octopus Ive ever had and went I sent it back the cook/owner told the server I had that I could NOT have a refund but was willing to give me something for the same price. As unhappy as I was I ordered more food that left the same plain unpleasant affect on me. To bad. Try to NOT make a stop here.. in addition, this reply from the owner is perfect example of the how do u say cocky aura the owner gives off as if he is the best of the best. I can assure you that is not true. P.s the baby octopus should have STAYED in greece. Id like to also add that if u look at all the other reviews u will see that the food here is utterly only just OKAY. Even the simplest of dish (chicken souvlaki) was dried out overcooked and far from enjoyable. I wish u luck kainos.
My wife had a pasta dish with pancetta that couldn’t be chewed. My lamb souvlaki was very tough and hard to eat. Our server never stopped to ask how are meal was or if we wanted more drinks. Had to go to the bar to get them. Our first time there and we went because of the entertainment. That was very good.
We had a great dinner at Kainos tonight. We wanted to eat outside, and the Kainos people were so accommodating. Lovely heaters, really good food, and our waiter was fantastic. Nate gave us great recommendations from the menu, and we need to come back to try a few more. Our service was excellent - thanks Nate! - and we had a wonderful night. We will be back!
Everything was perfect for our friends’ get together last night at Kainos! Nate, our server, was knowledgeable, attentive, personable and so fun! The food was delicious, starting with the flaming appetizer through to all the amazing desserts! We were treated so well by everyone there...Nate, Kate, chef, manager.....they all made us feel so welcome! We will most definitely be back!!
My husband and I visited this restaurant 9/26/20 and it was our first time. We love trying new restaurants and we’ve never had Greek food before, so thought we’d give it a try. The food was AMAZING! the staff was AMAZING! The whole experience itself was wonderful. A couple chefs came to check on us to make sure everything was great. They had some live music playing, and even though we dined inside, we could still hear it and it wasn’t too loud. I will be coming here again and I will bring my whole family. Thank you for this experience.
We had a reservation for an igloo for my birthday. A $100 deposit was required to make the reservation. We got a call that the date we made the reservation for had to be cancelled because the igloos were going to be used for those who wanted to watch the Buffalo Bills game. The staff person said that due to the unfortunate circumstances that we would be issued a refund for the deposit. Over a month later we still have not received the refund of $100 back. They are unprofessional and lack customer service skills which is disappointing for a 4.5 star restaurant!!In response to the owners comment: Yes your staff most definitely did offer a refund. You and your staff are liars and need to learn how to treat your potential customers with a little more class. I will definitely never bring any business to your restaurant!!
Where to even start! I was in Saturday evening for a cocktail and an appetizer! It was so nice to be out and about at a restaurant that cares so much about their customers. Everything was spread out 6 feet apart! Our bartender Krystal was outstanding! As a bartender myself I know how stressful it is to be working during this craziness! Krystal was always checking up on us to make sure our drinks were filled. She was busy! But always made time for us, not just to see if we needed, but to get to know us personally! I can not wait to come back and see Krystal! Oh, yeah! The food was outstanding too!
Bland food for way too steep of a price. Ordered the Chicken Aphrodite, mushrooms undercooked, no flavor, and chicken poorly seered. Overall just tasted like watered down butter, with no marsala flavors or any spice. Even added additional salt and pepper to no avail. In the end, I paid 26 dollars (plus tax and of course tip) for a meal I couldve easily made better at home for a fifth of the price. Certainly wont be returning, as I left feeling like I was owed time and money. Only positives are the locations scenery and decent waiters.
I found my new favorite restaurant! Hospitality was even better than the amazing food. Our server, Nate, was so personable and friendly. The owner and manager made sure we were warm and comfortable outside and treated us to some delicious desserts. We’ll be back soon!
A friend and I visited Kainos to see Amanda Ashley peform on Friday night. It was going to be a busy night and there were no reservations available but we sat at the bar and Krystal took care of us who was incredible!!! The food was brilliant and because of the great service we will be back again and again 😀
This restaurant is so terrible. We were looking forward to having some Greek food. We went on a Sunday evening. The place was practically empty our service was SO slow the food was not good and it was overpriced. the lamb shish kebabs were raw they were so gross. The side salads were 8$!! And the lettuce was brown!!! Never going back here again. Don’t waste your time and money on this restaurant if you want a good Greek salad go to CoreLife and get one it’ll cost you $10 and it’s delicious!!!
Had a wonderful time with my parents after a bike ride along the river/canal trail. They had ribs and BBQ chicken and loved it.I had salt potatoes and corn on the cob.The server was enthusiastic and friendly (even after an obviously long and busy day), and the drinks came fast and were strong.Love the views of the river and downtown from their spacious patio. Will be back. ✨💯✔️
I took my best friend to Kainos to celebrate her birthday. The food was excellent, the service? Horrible! Our waiter Justin (I believe) took 10 minutes before he came to our table to offer drinks. When he came back with the drinks and my friend questioned him why her top shelf drink was in a plastic cup and my drink was in a martini glass and our waters were in glass. He yelled at her and told her that was policy! The couple at the table next to us (not 6ft apart) said they couldnt believe the way he spoke to her!We ordered 1 dinner (The Poseidon) to share and 2 appetizers (Spanakopita/Artichokes) we asked that the appetizers come out first then the dinner. We took one bit of our appetizers and out came the dinner. He came to clear our plates, never asked if we wanted a box for our left overs, which there was quite a bit left and just walked off.I was at Kainos 2 weeks prior to Saturday night, again the food was excellent... the service, terrible! It was my suggestion to go to Kainos for her birthday because the food was so good. I overlooked the service and just figured it was because our waiter was new and not trained properly. I will not be overlooking service again.I have a feeling Kainos will be like many other Rochester restaurants that will be closing unless they get their wait staff up to par.Thank youKaren
I will not come back here no matter what. I had plans to see my friends band sing tonight and I called earlier in the day to make sure the show was still on because last weeks was canceled and I was told the show was definitely on and I drove an hour and a half from Buffalo and I get there only to find out the show is canceled, and the staff was more clueless than a drunk person after a football game.
Couldnt wait to try Kainos and was not disappointed! All four of us loved the appetizers and meals we got- everything from the lamb to the moussaka had great flavors! There are so many options that it took us a long time to decide what we wanted. All the staff were welcoming and the bartender did a great job selling the Greek Margarita- which I recommend. Couldnt sit outside due to the weather, but the view from inside the restaurant was just as great. We will be back!
Went here on mothers day, and this place was a mess. When we complained we were told no one else has complained. These reviews show that line was false. The fact that the owner attacks reviewers should tell you all you need to know about this business. Puts the blame on others, to include the government. While we definitely see other restaurants hurting for help, we have yet to have an experience this bad.
I had a reservation for the Valentine and the cancelled it 30 minutes before my reservation !! and i didn’t have any other plans so they ruined my dayThank you kainosReplay to the ownerFirst of all thank you for the fast response even if its not respectful , second of all i have the cancellation E mail if you want me to post it and the restaurant called me also to confirm the cancellation at 8:50 even though my reservation was at 9:15 and i told the Pearson who talked to me that I am 5 minutes away and he apologized and said there is nothing that he can do about it
Great food and great atmosphere, the pricing for the igloos was not clearly explained to us correctly so we did have an issue with that, over the phone they said there is a minimum of $240 per igloo group of 4. We had 8 people from the same house in one igloo so i asked if that meant 480 total or 240, they said no just the 240 minimum. We got our individual checks at the end per couple since it was my brothers and their wives and every one of our bills had $120 igloo for 2 dinner plus all of our appetizers and drinks and appetizers so everyones bills came up to 200-240 per couple no matter what you ordered for your meal. I tried asking the owner about it and explained our issue and he just blew me off and walked away very unprofessionally. I understand they are facing challenging times with the shut downs and i even told him i wasnt complaining about my bill since me and my wife both got expensive meals so that wasnt the issue, it was my brothers who were trying to save some money and ordered cheaper entrees that was the issue since they got the same bill which wasnt explained up front. Our waitress was great and i gave her an extra 40$ on top of our tip since the others didnt tip her well since they were unhappy about their bills. I know it was not her fault at all, its the fact the owner blew me off that doesnt sit well when his people on the phone explained it wrong( which i heard him in the background clarifying the pricing to the server when we called but he said it wasnt him)The food was great, just think the owner is going about it wrong with the current situation.
Its meh at best. Nothing impressive about the food or service, and for the price, my expectations are much higher. If you want to go to help a small business by all means, do... but if you want really good Greek food, youre going to be disappointed. To the owner: I am referring to Kainos. I was there on a visit with family. I already explained the 2 stars-- for the price the food was pretty meh. The service was also meh-- Ive had better service at a Golden Corral.
I had an amazing experience there this past weekend with Krystal!!!! She was attentive and so sweet. This has been one of my 1st times going to a public restaurant since the pandemic and she really made me feel at ease. 5 star service Krystal I will definitely be coming back.
Reservations last night at Kainos Restaurant, waited over 45 mins at our table. Waitress passed our table over and over numerous times, until another couple were sat right beside us. She offered them water drinks. I turned to her and said “ very patiently that we are and waited, know you’ve seen us sitting here for over 45 mins and not once did you offer us at least some water,, very rude and just not right”. Of course we walked out. With no reservations next door at Tony D’s., explained to the hostess our experience we had and she said we were the 3rd couple who had the same story. As busy as they were, we waited no more than 15 mins for a table. Service from the hostess to our waitress was absolutely excellent. Thank you Tony D’s for making our early Valentines Day turn out to be a special evening!!
We usually go for dinner and really enjoy anything weve had. Favorite is the lamb shanks - tender and delicious. We always order the favas. I generally enjoy one of the unique cocktails and havent been disappointed.Today was our first time for lunch (& on the patio). My husband raved about the Kalamari wrap, my suvlaki pita was just right (size, flavors and textures.) We couldnt resist getting our usual soup & it was even better than it usually is!We love Kainos!
Had a wonderful evening out here. Food and staff were excellent. Very nice atmosphere if you are looking for a place with a more upscale experience to go for drinks and/or a meal. The location on the Genesee Riverwalk makes for beautiful city views. Will definitely be back soon!
My wife and I went to Kainos for our Anniversary. First visit. We ordered the grilled octopus which my wife couldnt eat and asked the waiter if they could grill the calamari. He went and got Tim, the manager who went and asked the chef. He came back and said no problem. He also said we could have the octopus at no charge. My wife ordered the lemon Greek chicken and I ordered the posidon both were very tasty and had enough left over to take home. A waiter was very attentive but not in your face. Over all we had a very good experience and will definitely be back
Watch out if you have celiac disease and you are sensitive. I told my server that I had celiac disease and was sensitive to slight cross contamination. I didnt want to eat at all, but he said that I had to. He said that they would make sure that my food was safe. I had sauted wild greens. That seemed a safe choice. That was 3 days ago and I am still suffering the consequences. The food wasnt even any good. My companion barely touched his meal, and the server didnt ever ask us how the food was. I loved Bill Tiberio though. In reply to the owner, I only ate in my home the same things that I eat every day. How about I will review procedures for gluten free patrons. Actually, after reading other reviews, it may have been run of the mill food poisoning and nothing to do with Celiac disease.
I decided to go out and try the igloo experience since it was something different. For a restaurant charging 60 per person it was a disaster. We ordered lobster ravioli, chicken parm and the Delmonico steak(medium well) w/ lobster for me and the mrs to share. Waitress put in order and walked out. We listening to alexa in our igloo. Night going well. 15 mins went by. Waitress come back say hey the lobster ravioli is ran out but she put the order in for chicken parm and steak for us. Ok small detour. We just decided to get to delmonico steaks and ordered mashed potatoes to come along with both. Waitress said ok sorry for inconvenience and put order in. 15 mins go by. Waitress come back and say hey we ran of mashed potatoes. Ok now its becoming a little annoying but still Im trying to make best of the situation. So now here comes the food another 15 mins. The steak came with lobster and asparagus. She ask is their anything else needed. I asked if she can bring me a1 sauce or some steak sauce. Waitress say sorry they dont have any type of steak sauce. Then the waitress walked out. Went to eat now. The lobster was like rubber and the steak was burnt on both. Both steaks were tougher then winter tires. By this point we both just hate the experience and ready to go.
Came in on whim at 2 in the afternoon looking for some food after a long day on the road. This was the first time I had calamari, and oh my goodness it was fantastic. Came with a creamy soup, and everything, was made fresh in house. It was delicious. Our waitress was super nice, and made time for us despite being slightly overworked. All around fantastic restaurant run by nice, caring people who can freaking COOK.
This was an amazing meal. Everything was delicious and the service was fantastic! Every one was very friendly and helpful. The GM and the chef both spent time talking to the guests at each table, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Jerell (and I apologise if I am spelling the name wrong) was one of the most energetic, passionate, and helpful people I have ever met. It was one of the best dining experiences I have had in Rochester in a long time. Dont tell anyone, but my husband said that the avgolemono was even better than his grandmothers. Shhh!
Booked reservations online. They were accepted. We show up. The girl did not want to hear a word we said. Just plain rude.Really sad your a front of house staff member is so completely rude. Especially when people come in to a support a local business.Granteed when traveling this route. This will be the last place I plan to come too. Also when I attempted to call. You couldnt leave a voice-mail. you couldnt get through to speak to anyone. It was a younger lady. A server Im sure. There was no name tag. If that is the case then you should remove online reservation option.
I ordered a catered Mothers Day dinner for my family and I was BLOWN away by how amazing the food was. I work in the hospitality industry and have worked with a number of different caterers and I know how hard it is to transport food and still keep it hot, fresh and delicious. This food was the BEST greek food Ive had since my honeymoon in Santorini. My family was so impressed by the food and with me for recommending it :)Thank you to the owner for being so good to us and surprising my mother with spanakopita and baklava. Also, the avgolemono soup is the best in Rochester, hands down.We cant wait to celebrate other big family gatherings in the restaurant! Thanks again, Kainos. You made my family very happy on Mothers Day.
Can I warn people looking for a good meal away from this place? I ate there several times, the food is pricey, and not great. We have so many amazing Greek places, youd think they would take notice, idk. If you ask the chef, aka owner, to fix something, youll get hollered at. The scene is beautiful, with the Genesee River, but the restaurant isnt worth it. Tony Ds, next door is much better, or you could just take a nice stroll down the walk way to get that view. Thats how much this place isnt worth your business!
Sorry to hear that Kainos Restaurant is not longer willing to partner with GrubHub. As independent contractor, I find very hard to complete low paid orders since the base rate is around $2.80 in some cases. Please understand that we (drivers) have to pay gas, expensive insurance, depreciation of our cars and in some cases car loans in our own. Accepting low offers ( as low as $2.80) we are losing potential better paid offers. We hope gigs can fix this problem and we can deliver every single order, while we are doing a decent living wages for our families
I got married on Nov 2, 2019. Our photographer had us stopped in Corn Hill to take some photos by the water. Once we were done, an employee taking a break over heard us talking and encouraged us to come in for a drink. They were so welcoming and made our day that much better. Our wedding party had a hoot. I wish I remembered the bartenders name, but he was awesome! My husband and I now plan on making some time to stop in for dinner. Thanks for the great hospitality!
Excellent service and the food was very good. I had the penne dish with pesto cream, feta, artichokes and other yummy stuff and my husband had the gyro plate. We shared the dip sampler for an appetizer and that was some of the best tzatziki I have ever had. The pita was perfect and the Greek mule I had was delicious. I had enough of my entree left over that Ill get 2 more lunches out of it. Its right on the river alongside the riverwalk, so the scenery is lovely. The attention to detail in the decor is wonderful. Our servers were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.
Ive had breakfast and lunch here, and loved both. This is the best Mediterranean restaurant in Rochester. Seriously. No, I dont work there and I dont know the owners.Go for breakfast on a clear day - great outdoor seating by the river, and really very peaceful as the sun comes over the horizon.
Honestly being from Toronto I cant compare the food because well, this is not Toronto. But, we did expect better food than what was served. The poutine was a good starter, nothing special except feta added. I got the basic chicken souvlaki. This is a Greek staple, cant really mess it up tbh. However, the chicken and potatoes both tasted like they were made the day before and heated up and they were extremely dry and had little taste to them except for some lemony taste to the potatoes. It came with a tablespoon worth of tzatziki, requiring me to ask for more. Also came with pita and rice, for such a dry dish the pita was wasted and the rice could have used something. It also came out cold which confirms my suspicion that it was reheated as fresh food doesnt cool down that quickly. Especially when the restaurant is empty and no one else is being served. My husband had the comfort chicken, which was made fresh so I will give them that, but they forgot the biscuit and the mash. It was also lacking in flavour and was a little on the burnt side. The service was great, the waiter was attentive and apologetic, but this doesnt make up for the subpar food. They are newly opened so waitstaff was gathered to get paid and the chef was busy on the phone trying to figure out payroll apparently, which could explain the lack of care in the food.I personally would not come back here, and I would not recommend this place either. Improvements need to be made in the menu especially for a Greek staple!
The one star is for the apple cider margarita which was the only good part if the meal. The $15 cup of dry wall paste hummus had no taste and is overpriced as is the $19 souvlaki platter which was served with RAW chickenOn the one and only kebob. It was returned on the same plate 15 minutes later with the same pieces burnt. Was there for lunch this past summer and thought food was forgettable but gave it another chance. Wont be back. Ive had better and authentic Mediterranean food at diners. Waitress said chef is the ownerNothing authentic tasting and your responses to reviews are insultingLearn from them
Went to kainos with my friend the other day to try a new style of food. We waited 25 mins before our waiter came to ask us what we wanted to eat, then after ordering another 20 mins passed by and we just received our dinner as we were about to leave. Service is definitely horrible and needs to be reworked.
Myself and three other friends found this restaurant kind of by accident and we are so happy we did! I plan to go there a lot. Lots of delish food. Lots of lemonade entrees, a great lemon soup and an unbelievable menu! We sat outside by the river, it was just delightfulfive stars!
Positives about this place is that our waiter was a nice guy.Negatives are, the room was not good for sounds, meaning we had to whisper the entire time because talking regularly sounded like we were yelling.I Asked for a drink list but all they had was a wine list (which is ok) but we were told delivery never came last week so out of the 15 or so wines listed they only had about 3 available.Food was terrible for 2 out of 3 of us. My boyfriend had the lamb shank that literally tasted like they boiled it then served it with grilled onions, no seasoning, no taste at all!He took LITERALLY 2 bites (1st was gross, 2nd was with salt added to try and help), So he told the waiter to just please take it back. The waiter asked if he wanted something else because food that has “been eaten” cannot be taken off of the check. My boyfriend looked at him and stated no possible way you can try to claim I ate that” he came back and was able to take it off the bill.My sons bacon cheeseburger was not only burnt after ordering it medium well, but they serve it on a sweet bun?! Not a good combination and they had no other bread substitutions. We had a Groupon that was for 2 meals, so when we went to pay and we pulled the groupon up, The female waitress said we cannot use the Groupon if they took one of the meals off. My boyfriend asked why because the Groupon is for 2 meals and we ordered 3 meals. She said oh, so what was your 3rd meal? He said my son ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and lemon potatoes because the burger came with two sides and she replied “that’s not considered a meal”.We just paid our bill and didn’t bother. We thought we’d give this new restaurant a try and paid no mind to the other low rated reviews but unfortunately we did not have a good experience at all.
We ordered Moussaka and when it came out it was ice cold in the middle. The manager came out and explained that it is supposed to be heated to only 140 degrees, then cooled to room temperature (BS). Moussaka is supposed to be served hot, google it. For the manager to come out and put on an entire song and dance regarding how Moussaka is supposed to be served cold really insulted my intelligence. Why not just be honest, why make an excuse? Why not just apologize and comp the item? He even offered to microwave it some more and bring it back. It was microwaved the first time and the center was ice cold, isnt this supposed to be a high end restaurant? Then, when the check came I was surprised to see that entree was still on the bill. We ate and drank a couple hundred dollars worth of other things, our only complaint was that one item. When I questioned why that was on the bill, he said they comped a round of drinks and the Soup they brought as a replacement to the meal to make up for it, and they did. It more than made up for the cost of the entre. But, they said they needed to keep the Moussaka on the bill to keep the Chef happy, and this review has nothing to do with money. Why does the staff need to protect the Chef? I believe the Chef is also the Owner. The food was Microwaved, bottom line, and the Chef needs to know how customers actually feel about the food coming out of the kitchen. Thats not the quality of food we expect when we go to a Nice Restaurant. The service was good, which is why we gave the Second Star.Sincerely yours,CJ
AMENDED REVIEWI was gratified to see that the owner (or owners rep) responded. So, here is my Amended Review:FOOD:Excellent. Kudos to clearly top-notch kitchen staff who delivered delicious Greek food. Food was timely, immaculately prepared and delicious. Perfect portion sizes. Lemon drink was excellent. Even the kids ate most of their food, which says a lot about the quality.AMBIANCE:I love the color scheme, the crisp and immaculate table settings. Blue is a favorite color and was well presented from the moment we walked in. Beautiful interior. The decorator should be proud.BATHROOM:A bit dirty, but with the courtesy of mouth wash and toothpicks. I cant fault a restaurant for imperfect bathrooms. Guests can be inconsiderate.SERVER:Our server was actually the bartender. We walked in hot and extremely thirsty (my girlfriend had a heat issue from the day before and was still recovering). She immediately brought us cold water and drinks. Everything was punctual and we never felt neglected. The other server on duty was also extremely nice and ensured she said hello. Her tables also were happy. We are people watchers and I am former military....and watch everything going on around us.EXPERIENCE:Manager terminated the other nice server in public. Having worked restaurants and spent many years in the military, I understand that there is a leadership maxim - PRAISE in public, REPRIMAND in private. The situation was embarrassing for the server, for our family and the other guests. Not acceptable. Front of the house is front of the house. It is a show - a theatre. One would never fire a stage actor on the stage - nor should it be done on stage in a restaurant. This is a leadership and learning lesson for the manager as well as an opportunity to show my family the results of poor choices by management. I read the response from the owner - and I appreciate it. However, at no point did the manager apologize, nor was there an apology in the owners response. Simply justification. My advice - remember that you are on a stage.OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:Sadly, the experience overshadowed the finesse of the kitchen staff and our server. I was disappointed that there wasnt an apology about the experience rather than a rebuke by the owner. I am not interested in justification for your personnel issues. I wanted a quiet lunch without any life lessons prior to a long drive. Ive worked for folks who reprimanded in public and it was an embarrassment for everyone. Id recommend some re-training. Regarding the food, the quality, the prices: EXCELLENT. I would absolutely give it another shot. One other KUDOS - their ALS charity support.ORIGINAL REVIEWOur waitress and the other waitress were super nice. Food was very good. However, we had the displeasure of watching the manager fire the other waitress over a simple error with a glass of wine. Absolutely ridiculous. NEVER terminate someone in front of guests. Found out from people working there that he is not exactly the most pleasant guy to work for, and we will not be back. I’ve had the displeasure of working for people like this manager. Not exactly a pleasant experience.
This place ia the best in Rochester. Fine dining, great food, personable service and memorable experiences. They are putting a patio bar in as I type... best view, great craft cocktails and beer. Takes you to Greece with all the perks of home. Look for them to take over the entertainment. Already booking up for the fourth on the patio, reservation only...I cant wait for Hawaiian nights in the patio!!
I attended Kainos for the first time in July 2020. I ordered the Posiedon. Not only did I only receive one small piece of lobster and no crab at all in my $40 dish, but I ended the night with vomiting from food posioning two hours later and for the rest of the night into the next day. I do not recommend......Now after being accused of not eating here bc i told the truth I highly suggest you avoid this place. I have my order proof in text messaging...if only I could post a photo. PICKUP ORDER #910762 JULY 30TH. UNDER CASEY DUPONT. YOU KNOW I ATE THERE.
I was disappointed. If I go back, I will order something different. I ordered the gyro plate with fava beans as a side. Im a small person and dont need large portions but was surprised at how little meat was included in my dish. My dish came with tzatziki and I would estimate that I got about a tablespoon of it. The meat was ok- not as flavorful as other gyro meat Ive had. The fava beans were fine. I just expected more flavor and fuller portions for the price. I tried some of the other dishes that other ppl at my table ordered and they were tasty. I would be hesitant to go back because I have had better experiences at cheaper restaurants. When I asked the server about substituting (I totally understand that the answer often has to be no) he said there was an executive chef and he would get yelled at.
My wife and I had a reservation here tonight for our anniversary. We were not aware that they are doing a limited menu and Greek festival tonight. Luckily they called us ahead of time to let us know. Unfortunately we decided to cancel but will be back to try out soon. Thanks for letting us know most places would not be this considerate.
Ambiance: Excellent view of the river. Nice updated decor.Service: I went during lunch, (12:30) so there was no host. The waiter was friendly enough.Food: came out super fast. The waiter made the saganaki right at the table which definitely added to the experience. The spanikopita filling was good. The maple syrup on top was definitely a turn off. The side of tzatziki was excellent with all the garlic in it.Overall a good experience. Only suggestion I have, (besides leaving the maple syrup off the spanikopita) is to clearly label where the bathrooms are and to have employees only on the closet doors that looked like bathroom doors.
After waiting ten minutes, the hostess stated that it was reservation only. As we were walking out the door she then said it was a thirty-minute wait to the following group. Which one is it?After reading the owner’s responses to customer reviews below, their attitude seems to match the food.
The restaurant is beautiful, the food tastes delicious, the service is big (I love it), the staff is nice, but the music is a bit loud. The rest is very good. Recommendation: Chicken Aphrodite, chicken carbonara, moussaka. I will be back again to try other food from the menu 😊
Unfortunately, everything but the view was disappointing. Most of the food lacked flavor, was under seasoned (lamb burger), and tasted like it had been made the day before and then microwaved to warm up (the lemon chicken). For the price, I expected items to be made from scratch, but even the Greek salad dressing was bottled dressing. Wont be back.
If I could give a 0 star I would. Here are the positives first:Older gentleman waiter was a cool dude.Negatives (in chronological order):1. Female waitress dropped at least 3 different items around us while we were there.2. Room was terrible for acoustics, meaning we had to whisper the entire time bc talking regularly sounded like we were yelling. No one wants to have a family dinner or bring friends and have to whisper.3. Out of every drink you could think of. Heres our wine list, but it would be easier for me to tell you what we actually have in stock was his exact quote. Then he named 3 wines...4. Food was terrible for 2 out of 3 of us. Mine was the lamb shank that literally tasted like they boiled it for a half hour then plopped it on my plate, with no seasoning. The side of potatoes and asparagus tasted ok. Our sons cheeseburger was not only burnt but I guess they serve it on a sweet bun?! It was disturbing. The fries were good. My girls tiny clams were good for her she said, but agreed our food was bad.5. After taking LITERALLY 2 bites of my lamb shank (1st was gross, 2nd was with salt added to try and help), and tasted my sons food to see if I wanted that instead, I told the gentleman to just please take it away. He asked if I wanted it replaced with anything, I said no thank you. He came back and stated we cant take this off the check due to you eating from it. I simply looked at him and stated no possible way you can try to claim I ate that. He said he would be back after trying again to get it off. He came back with it off.6. I already had a Groupon that was for 2 meals, so when I went to pay, I pulled it up. The female waitress that kept dropping things came by and said he cant use a Groupon if we took one of the plates off. I said, but the Groupon is for 2 and we ordered 3 meals. She said oh, so what was your 3rd meal? I said my son ordered a cheeseburger plate( its not an appetizer or kids meal so it should be fine) and she replies with thats not considered an entree so it doesnt count. I went to pull up the groupon to have her show me where it said but honestly I did not want to deal with her at all bc I could tell she had an attitude with me that would not be won with common sense. The waiter apologized and I told him none of tonight was his fault and he is good in my books, but that I would NEVER go there again (and I frequent restaurants in Charlotte every single weekend).
If I could give zero stars I would. Made a reservation on a Thursday for 7:30 and was left waiting just to ask for drinks until I decided to leave at 8:05. Meanwhile tables that got seated after my party and I had drinks, food ordered AND DELIVERED to them all the while server after server passed up our table.
My sisters and I recently celebrated my birthday at Kainos...Kailey was awesome...we couldnt have asked for better service..Chuck was also so attentive... making sure our visit was the best ever! Thank you to all at Kainos for making this a family experience ...I will definitely be back!
Worst meal for a lot of money. Do not go here. I had Seabass with head tail & bones included. Manager would not take off bill & told us we could order something else but would have to pay for that meal as well! The sea add was $32 & I did not eat any of it!! Bad business!
Once you experience going there to eat whether its lunch or dinner, youll be happy you did. You will also find yourself coming back over and over again. The food is so tasty if you dont finish eating it youll definitely take it home and eat the rest later. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the watress is polite and takes good care of you.
Terrible! Worst meal we have ever eaten in a restaurant.Saginoki burned, out of lamb souvlaki and octopus ,lamb shank dinner old dry tough, lemon potatoes covered in processed garlic. Owner rude and dismissive. 100% AWFULUnfortunate that the owner has chosen to attack a new customer. Pathetic really.Make no mistake we left a full plate. We had never had a bad meal in a Greek restraunt in 30 yrs . Sad ,Bad cooks and management!!
We were in Rochester for some plant shopping and decided we wanted dinner al fresco near the water. Unfortunately we didnt get a patio table due to such short notice and live band setting up but boy did we get the food!Fresh perfectly cooked Greek style Sea bass and what they call St. Georgios -Chicken tenders sautéed with gyro meat, sundried tomato, Kalamata olives, banana peppers, portabella mushrooms, tossed in two kinds of very light cheese sauce over angel hair pasta.Desserts were house made.All-in-all very authentic delicious Greek Italian fusion food and not at all Dinner style GreekWe return for the patio over looking the river!
Sunday evening dinner at a new destination. We were seated right away and got a window view of the Port of Rochester. Very friendly staff, especially Shaun our waiter. Our fresh brewed tea was not on the menu but the kitchen crew made us some. The wife had Yia Yia Yemista stuffed Greek vegetables. A delicious blend of rice, meat sauce, and spices in a bell pepper. A tomato, and an eggplant. I had the Loukaniko dinner. Teo generous Greek sausages on a bed of greens with asparagus and pitas bread with tzatziki sauce. Very flavorful. Unfortunately we didnt have room for dessert. We will be coming back soon. There are plenty of other entrees to try plus tapas and appetizers.
I would like to thank this restaurant for being spot on with the Authentic Greek cuisine. With Greek music playing in the background reminds me of Greece. Well I had the Pastitsio and my family had Moussaka, chicken Souvlaki and Spanakopita, so tastful i hated to break the news to my Yia Yia that Kainos out did themselves. Also had the Octopus appetizer which was to die for and Baklava for Dessert We are Definately coming back this weekend i want the Flaming Saganaki
My family and I o seven had the most wonderful experience at kaino last night very wonderful waitress her name is Denise I usually do not remember waitresses names she was amazingly friendly the owner which is Chef has amazing intricate food theres a wide variety of menu options in a waitress said if theres anything you would like indifferently off the menu we will be sure to accommodate you at the end of the night we are very satisfied and we will be back again and again
Was There last week cant believe they let the owner of mom margios open another restaurant when he has comitted so much fraud with not paying his former employees from the last two establishments, the food came right from BJs I could tell. I would never go back and neither should you

2022-04-08Italian Restaurant with Pitas. I went for the scenery. Enjoyed my meal. The most impressive thing about the place besides the patio on the Genessee River, is how they care for people.I went to the restroom before I left and was absolutely surprisingly shocked. The restroom had toiletries for women, lotions, and something else that I have decided not to share for the safety of the women dining in the establishment. Ladies you are safe here.My meal, I had the mussels and a Greek salad. I don’t finish the salad because the vinegar in the dressing was overpowering.Mussels were citrusy with chopped fresh oranges. They were good. Grabbed a local beer and left.

2022-02-07The food and view are beautiful! The food is rich and fresh. The menu is both traditional and modern. I could eat the Spanakopita for every meal for the rest of my life and Id be satisfied every time, but theres always something new to try as well!

2021-12-24How I spent my birthday. This is one of my favorite restaurants now. Not only is the food phenomenal the staff is too. I felt so comfortable there. I had a drink at the bar then went to eat in the igloo which was an amazing experience.

2021-06-13Enjoyed a wonderful meal and service last night with 5 friends at Kainos. Our waiter, Shea, said he had only worked there a few days, but he was personable and had great service skills. A very friendly and informative server. The food - DELICIOUS. All 6 of us had great meals. Presentation great, Ive included photos. I can highly recommend Kainos, a wonderful surprise, and well worth a visit.

2022-06-11This place was great to visit, sat outside and listened to music. There were a few things that were not so great, specifically the service. I had to get up 2x and ask for menus from the same waitress, Alexa R. She forgot about us, but did finally bring some almost 40 min later, after walking by us multiple times. She returned and I ordered the Greek dip plate and Kalamaki plate (3 chicken & 3 pork skewers). The food came out pretty quickly and was good. One thing I didnt understand was why I received 6 skewers, but only 4 small pieces of pita bread (probably 1 cut in quarters). I thought the idea was to put the meat in the pita bread, add the sauce and eat it, there should really be 6 pieces. I asked for more, but after a long wait, but was told the kitchen was closed, I wouldnt think it would be difficult to grab some bread. The dip plate could have also used more pita bread, we were left with lots of dip. When I received my bill, there was only 1 credit card slip, the one I needed to sign for the restaurant, not an extra to take with me. I asked Alexa where my receipt was, and she said oh did you need that? I think this was a silly question, I always receive a customer receipt with any credit card purchase, she offered to get one, but I just took a picture because we wanted to leave. I noticed that all the other servers were very attentive, it was not a situation where the restaurant was super crowded, our server was the problem.

2022-04-09Came by on a whim, left absolutely blown away! The lobster ravioli was breathtaking, the Greek meatballs are probably the best meatballs Ive had in the city, and the drinks were great. The menu is a nice blend of Greek and Italian, with a well-stocked bar to boot. Absolutely worth a trip!

2022-04-20Service was friendly and pleasant. Food was amazing! Dip plate and flaming cheese were awesome and a great way to start. Lamb shank was out of this world. Moussaka and Greek lasagna were delicious. Shrimp scampi was light and refreshing. Filet tips were fantastic. Could not believe this place was empty!

2021-07-11The view of the deck or patio is good. We came here in a cloudy and cool day, I bet it’s more beautiful during sunny and warm days. Our server was cool, attentive and nice. The food though was unsatisfactory. I had the greek lasagna. The serving was big however the pasta inside was quite tough. My husband had the lamb souvlaki which he found tough and not fully cooked so he was not able to eat everything. We took it home and had to recook it so he can eat it. For dining that’s on the pricier side, we’re quite not satisfied. Is it worth coming back? for my husband and I, sadly, no.

2022-03-06Best Greek food and tzatziki sauce I’ve had in all of Rochester. This was my first experience and most definitely won’t be my last, my server Corey was amazing, the food quality and service was immaculate. Keep up the good work, and thank you for an amazing experience.
