What a great gem in Queens! Excellent Greek street food at a reasonable price. A very nice setting with an outdoor patio area, and a friendly staff. We had the pleasure of being greeted by the owner during our meal who was very friendly. The food was amazing! Definitely beyond my expectations! We had chicken kabobs, the tzatziki was amazing! Everything was very fresh and tasteful. This has become my to go spot for Greek food!
Food was awesome, wait staff is so nice. They explained the entire menu to me and my family. Unfortunately, they only had 2 waitresses on a Friday night so certain things took a bit longer to get as they were overwhelmed. The owner is very attentive to all the patrons. Most especially to the ladies. All in all, it was a great experience. Ill be back (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice). ευχαριστώ. Update: 8/17/19. Still amazing. You feel like your family when you are here!!!
Robert Modest has the most honest review of this place. Decent, but overpriced for the portions. Also, there were bad pieces of meat in my chicken and pork souvlaki pitas. The people working there are super nice.3 stars because Im Greek and I cant bring down my people like that. This review might hurt a bit but hopefully it makes them improve their offering.
Lamb and beef gyro is the way to go. Juicy and tender meat with the tzatziki sauce is my preferred way. But if you are having some pita on its own, the tirokafteri is the only way to enjoy pita. Also the fried calamari was delicious. Large pieces of calamari and very tender considering the size. Of course the Greek Salad did not disappoint. It compliments the gyro perfectly.
Excellent Mediterranean restaurant.Conveniently located on Francis Lewis Blvd. The cashier was very friendly and patient. The Authentic Greek salad was amazing. Great flavor and good amount of feta. The beef Bifteki had great flavor and placed in a warmer bag.I truly loved the salad and beef and will be back
I don’t understand how this place has good reviews. First of all, this place is way overpriced and the food is decent at best. There’s nothing special about the food here, it’s just your average greek food.Again, the food is not bad, it just doesn’t justify the hefty price tag. Maybe because the portions are so small compared to other spots. I know plenty that’ll compare if not be better than this place for half the price. This is just my opinion.I don’t mind paying for good food but not for fancy packaging and gimmicks. Plus I always walk by and the place is empty so....
The first thing is that I️ must mention the freshness of the food. The meats and sauces and bread. The staff is very knowledgeable and everything that I’ve eaten there is freshly prepared to order. The quality of the food is amazing and the value is exceptional. This makes this a great spot that you can go to regularly to eat good food. The kitchen has an open concept which I believe is great. Looks like they do a lot of to go orders so the kitchen team is fast. Plus everything we have ordered thus far has been delivered in a decent amount of time. This place can be casual ( fast) or for a celebration ( they have a backyard but I️ only discovered this place recently, looking forward to spending time there). Also they have a pretty decent wine selection.Get yogurt and any platter. The apps are amazing and it’s better to do family style for everything :) it feels like home 🏡
Niice. Ive hit a few greek places when Im sick of all the asian food, and this place is great. Food tasted fresh and the sauces were creamy and not fluid like some places. I thought it was amazing that I could taste the hint of olive oil for that authentic greek flavor. Fries were beer battered with a bit of oregano. Driver was nice and even waited until he saw me grab the food before leaving. Yea, Im ordering again
This restaurant is grossly overpriced and the portions are ridiculously small. The pork platter are like eating sizes of chicklets! The sandwich is the size of a Mcdonalds $1.99 wrap and less flavorful. We had there yogurt for dessert which was nothing to be excited about. Oh and be sure not to ask for extra tzatzki because you get a butter size cup for $4. They even ask for donations on there website after they charge so much for such small portions. Shame on them!
First time customer and what a first impression. On our waiters (Demetrius) recommendations we started off with a home made hummus trio that was spectacular, followed by fried calamari that was lightly battered and so tender...mouth watering! Our waiter Demetrius was on point with his suggestions. We were never disappointed throughout our dinning experience. Aris the owner stopped by to ask how everything was and surprised us with a glass of after dinner wine and some desert to try. We all enjoyed it. Hats off to the staff there at Kalamaki. You made us feel very comfortable and at home here. Cant wait to come back to Queens. I will be sure to stop in for a meal.
We stopped in this place after dropping my girls off at dance. We found them on maps what a score amazing service and food the zucchini balls were unbelievable and the lemon potatoes highly recommend. And our server Debbie was great thank-you for a great spur of the moment dinner
We go here when were in the area, probably every two months or so. This has always been our go-to eatery when driving through Queens because their food is always consistent: FRESH! The last time we were there, approximately three weeks or so ago, we were saddened that our usual server, Norma (whom we LOVED, LOIVED, LOVED) was no longer there. We are hopeful that everything is well with her and no matter where she works, she will always be an asset! Our new server, whom at this moment I cannot remember her name, was absolutely delightful and attentive as well! We were skeptical at first, but she did not disappoint. We ordered the octopus appetizer, and frankly we could have ordered more because it was cooked perfectly and was absolutely delicious (again, consistent)! My husband ordered the beef and lamb gyros; my daughter ordered souvlaki and I the chicken souvlaki. Absolutely delicious and FRESH! We LOVE THIS place and are so happy with our server!!!
Ive never been here in person, but I often order in. The food is consistently delicious and flavorful - perfect for those days when I need my Greek fix.The beef gyros, even if they are smaller than usual, are just about the best I have ever tasted and always leave me wanting more. Their yogurt with different toppings is also lots of fun for dessert!
Incredible food, some of the best Greek I’ve ever had. Our waitress, Nina, was fantastic. The service was exquisite and after speaking with the owner, you could tell how immensely passionate he was about what he does and it most definitely shows within his food. 1000% recommend attending.
My wife and I came here for a lunch date which is rare nowadays with two kids and this place was a treat! The food was excellent! I highly recommend the grilled pita with hummus and the pork kabobs. The service was wonderful and friendly and they have outdoor seating when the weather gets nicer!
So we ordered a medley of stuff and everything was great. The calamari was the most tender I ever had. We had one spread the one we the feta it was a red one. It was amazing!! And the beet salad was delicious. The skewers were also good and the lemon potatoes also good. Everything we ordered I would order again. I am so glad we tried this place on a whim! I wish them luck and hope they will be around for a long time to come.
The owner of this place is wonderful. Hes always walking around taking care of things, super friendly and welcoming with customers. The food is delicious and the best Greek food in the area! Our waitress was particularly slow this time around, but its not usually the case, and she was very nice nonetheless.
We tried this place for the first time. Great addition to the wonderful restaurants in the area. Its a bit pricey but well worth going there. I understand they have outdoor seating, we will try it in the spring. Its off Francis Lewis Blvd. Local street parking. It was easy to find parking about 7pm. Its good to take a date there.
There are a lot of Greek spots that you could visit if youre around Queens but this is one of the best places in town to enjoy authentic Mediterranean and Greek cuisine, although is not a big fancy restaurant and their portions are a little bit small, their seasoning and cooking is on point with every bite. Excellent choise, well come back
I went to dinner tonight and I have to say our waitress Debbie was the best, the food was absolutely delicious, the spinach pie was fluffy and delious I even ate the hummas which I was never a fan of but it was 👍 our entree was also delious I highly recommend this place its a great place to go. I will definitely go back
Absolutely horrible !! I ordered through Uber eats two gyros which came each with three pieces of meat, how dare you serve this!! I paid $14.00 for a Greek said that wasn’t even worth five I’ve never been more disappointed in a Greek restaurant. Save your money Go To Fontana famous gyro Or better yet GYRO WORLD .
This review is for takeout/delivery. I had my food delivered via UberEats and did not dine at the restaurant, hence I can only review on the food.UberEats delivered food pretty damn fast. The total time for me to place the order and receive it was ~25 min! Not bad considering the restaurant was 10min drive away from my sisters! We ordered the Tirokafteri which is a spicy cheese spread with feta on top. We have never tried this and wanting to try something new, we opted for this. This was very good and went perfect with the pita bread! It did had a kick to it but it was tolerable. There was also a very generous amount in the container. I had a ton of pita bread and also ate it with my chicken and the sandwich and I still have 1/2 the container left.My sis ordered 2 chicken sandwiches and I ordered 3 sticks of chicken Kalamaki. The chicken sandwich is pretty much a gyro with chicken, tomato, onions, and tzatziki. The tzatziki really brought out the flavors of the chicken in the gyro. My sticks of chicken kalamaki was juicy chicken and not dry.Overall, I would def order from this place again! The food is delicious, and they are very generous with their servings.
The Chicken Souvlaki wasnt white meat and it was under cooked but the waiter was a nice guy and replaced it with grilled chicken breast also the salad that it came with was in a small size like espresso cup small. I wouldnt call that a salad its more like a piece of lettuce and a piece of cucumber. For the money i paid i expected better quality chicken meat like white meat and the pork souvlaki was more fat then meat. But I will change my rating to a five star because the waiter was sincere and the owner is concern about my review earlier and that shows he is willing to listen to his customers.
The food was great, the place was small and kind of empty during dinner hours on a Sunday but maybe thats because theyre rather new. Seems family owned, the guy who wasnt our server but worked there kept coming up to our table and interrupting our meal but I think he was just excited to see customers.
Loved Kalamaki! We sat by the end of the room, on high chairs and tables. Our server, Ruth, was very friendly, and tended to us.We ordered the Loukaniko to start, a sausage with some peppers. It was great, we wanted to try their grilled octopus but thought it might be too heavy. We both ordered kalamakis, I had the chicken and she had the pork. The kalamakis serve 4 skewers on top of 2 pitas and your choice of side. It also comes with a tatziki sauce. It goes great together, the pork or chicken wrapped in the pita and dipped in the tatziki sauce.Would definitely recommend!
2 stars only because we ate once there and it is giving them the benefit of the doubt the other food is good and not tapas portioned. We had the Gyro. Now it was average, sauce was used sparingly, and zero crisp, but holy smokes it was appetizer size. lol..... Absolutely the smallest Ive ever had or seen and Ive had them all over the place. We laughed when we saw it. We thought we had the Kobi gyro. lol...Disappointing as the restaurant looks very nice and clean (a definitely plus in NYC) and in the neighborhood. We have been wanting to eat there since we have recently moved to the area and looking for places close we could walk to. Ill drive for my next gyro the 1/2 of a mile further to get a good one at our usual gyro place. Seriously we ordered sushi as soon as we got home from our local fav place as we knew it was going to be needed. Sadly I doubt wed go in there again and roll the dice on a meal. Id have to see a ton of reviews telling us that this is the sugar, not just a few 5 stars which could be plants.Ive been in the hotel restaurant industry for 30+ yrs. Ive seen good food places and good chefs cook themselves out of biz but you could be going in the other direction. I understand it takes time to make a good sauce as I have done it by scratch but Ive never paid for extra sauce unless I was wanting it for home. 1 or 2oz wont put you out of biz and if it does, there are larger challenges. Ive never left a Greek restaurant hungry, that is left for the Chinese restaurants an hour later ;-)* I did read the 1 star review and response from the owner. I give him cudos for that. Definitely knows customer service even if his people dont but they can be trained or replaced, bravo.I thought NYC was the place to be for great food. If someone gets wise they will never go out of business as there are streets lined here with subpar food by any standards.
Not worth the aggravation or the money. For a relatively new restaurant, they need a lesson on customer service. Your food will only take you so far, but customers will eventually go to a place where their hard earned money is appreciated. I have been a loyal Kalamaki customer from the first day they opened. My family orders from there almost every Friday, never less than a $50 order. Their food is average, and not consistent. Their service is even less consistent. Ill break it down very simply. They over charge for extra Tzatziki sauce. When you order their Family Mixed Grill platter, they provide one small side of sauce (not even enough for one person). If you ask for extra Tzatziki, they charge $5 per container (not much bigger than the complimentary size). So for a family of 5, it will cost you $15-20 extra just for sauce when youve already spent approximately $50 on food. This past Saturday (9/19/15) was the final straw. We placed a $100 order (2 Mixed Grill platters and some salads). We didnt even receive any Tzatziki sauce at all. We called the restaurant and spoke to someone who insisted it was in the bag. After having to convince him that we thoroughly searched all 3 bags given to us by the delivery driver, he agreed to send us some right away. Needless to say, 16 hours later as Im writing this, we are still waiting for our over priced extra Tzatziki sauce. Not worth calling and complaining, because you wont get the owner on the phone. Good luck to him and them, your service or lack thereof will prove to be your downfall. Bayside/Whitestone/Flushing is not lacking in Greek food options. Choose one with better service.Update:1 hour after my review was posted, I saw there was a missed call from Kalamaki. To his credit, the owner called and left a message on my answering machine. The only problem? He said that he randomly calls customers who order delivery to see how their experience was. This is the problem with this place, they are extremely arrogant in thinking they are smarter than their customers. I have been in retail and the service industry for 20+ years. I have learned one thing, people are very forgiving and are always willing to give you multiple chances, (as I have in the past) if you are upfront, honest, and sincere. By insulting their intelligence, you only add fuel to their fire...Sorry (actually not) Kalamaki, but too little too late, and maybe you can learn from this in how to actually handle a customer service issue...My advice is free of charge this time...oh wait its not because you charged $20 for Tzatziki I never received...I guess were even!
I dont know how some people gave it a 1 or 2 stars. Probably the competition. If you want good authentic Greek food go to Kalamaki GR. THE OWNER IS FUNNY AS HELL. Its small and cozy and warm. Waitress was awesome. When I come back to nyc going back for some delicious octopus and chicken kalamaki. Thank you for giving kosta my son strawberries. Much love.

2022-07-12Oh. My. God. Why is this the best Greek food place? I ordered a platter - what separates Kalamaki from the rest is the separate everything from the platter! Its amazing! I dont get a Styrofoam mess of meat, mixed with soggy salad, horrible rice/fries/potatoes. They separate each part of the platter and Im eternally grateful for that! I live in Whitestone and will never order Greek cuisine from anywhere else but here. You will not be disappointed! Look at this spread! Perfection!

2022-03-21Awesome Greek food - we had the spanakopita, lamb gyro platter and pork gyro pita … definitely recommend the pork over the lamb. Gyros are small but delicious!

2021-10-02Kalamaki did not provide a good meal this evening. I ordered 3 gyros and fries. The gyros were cold and I found a hair in the onion. I had to call 3 times just to get through. Finally I got in touch with someone and all the person did was take my number, and said a manager would call me. 2 hours later and no call. I have a feeling no one will get back to me, and thats really terrible considering how highly I thought of Kalamaki. Poor food, poor customer service, I dont suggest you eat it.I want to update this review. I was contacted by Kalamaki and the manager was very sorry for what happened. He refunded me the money. Thank you

2022-02-24Ordered the Mixed Grill for 2 for delivery. Great tasting variety of flavorful meats. The lemon potatoes are a must. The garlicky Tzatziki sauce enhances the meat flavors perfectly. Large portions can feed 2, 3, or 4. Great value!

2021-05-04Great little find in the neighborhood. I usually go to other Greek restaurants in Astoria, NY for some great food. I saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try. This place had a nice outdoor patio and the food was bountiful and fresh. I would recommend this place for Greek food in the neighborhood. They serve a family platter that will more than feed a family of four. That item and a large salad and you are all set. Would go back and try the fish. Will update on that.

2022-06-08Never ordering from this restaurant ever again! I specifically stated my allergies in the special instructions and they were obviously not careful when preparing my food. They Definitely cross contaminated and I ended up going into anaphylaxis shock last night and almost died because of their sloppiness. If I could give 0 stars I would
