Dr Barbara Kalvig is an extraordinary veterinarian and she has established a practice that is without question the best place there is for our four legged family members. I have been fortunate to have Dr Kalvig care for my dogs for over 25 years. Her knowledgeable expertise, calm demeanor and kindness for both animal and humans alike are unparalleled and wonderful. Her staff is also excellent- very attentive and supportive. I cannot recommend more highly. My appreciation for the doctors and staff is unwavering especially to Dr Kalvig. Kudos for the ultimate in care!
My family is very impressed with Kalvig and Shorter practice. Our young pup has been struggling with gastrointestinal issues for moths. I had to switch veterinarians because I felt like the previous one did not take my concerns seriously at all and wasn’t responsive enough. That’s not the case with Kalvig and Shorter. Our pup is feeling better today thanks to their knowledge, professionalism and great love for pets! Doctors there really care about their 4-legged patients and they listen to what we have to say.Big shout out to Dr. Kalvig who is a very kind, caring, patient and dedicated doctor!Couldn’t be happier to see our dog happy again.
My chocolate lab, Anya who is turning 7 next month, has been a patient at KSV since she was a puppy. We started going to their office when it was on East 84th Street in my neighborhood, but have since followed them to their current location on East 39th Street. Its well worth the trip since the incredible doctors and nurses at KSV treat Anya with the highest veterinary care. Our appointments never feel rushed and we very much appreciate the follow up call we get later that evening on the day of every exam, just to make sure that Anya is doing well. Veterinarians such as Dr. Shorter and Dr. Kalvig are rare gems!
I first chose Kalvig & Shorter when my cat Moana became sick and they were the only vet that I reached out to who agreed to take her in for a same day appointment to make sure that she was ok. I have stuck with them ever since then, and have had no regrets.I recently adopted a cat that desperately needed surgery for multiple fractures on her back leg. Dr. Kalvig and her team (shoutout to Maria and Kristina) have been so supportive before surgery, during surgery, and as my cat continues to recover post-op. Dr. Kalvig has gone out of her way to make sure that my cat is ok -- including calling me late to check up on my cat after her vet visit and answering early morning calls when I desperately needed her guidance. The quality of care and compassion at Kalvig and Shorter is unmatched. I highly recommend them to everyone.
I have been taking my dogs here since 2013. This practice is amazing, treats my dogs with the upmost care, offers the current state of technology and treatment options. As physician, I am encouraged to ask difficult questions and the Veterinarians are patient with me and provide the answers I need to know to decide the best care for my dog. I highly recommend this practice!
Ive followed Drs. Shorter and Kalvig with 3 dogs and different locations in the city until they set up their very own practice on 39th street. We LOVE them - and would and do recommend to any and all. Incredibly caring, responsive, communicative, collaborative, patient and compassionate vets. 110% recommend!!! Id want them as my PCP if they treated people :)
My first time at K&S Vet and I was highly impressed. The tech came and greeted me and both my felines Jade & Leo. They were treated for EVERYTHING I needed the same day! Microchips and shots for both, plus an ear exam and meds for my grumpy boy. I loved sitting in their garden waiting area, sipping my coffee and stress-free. The doc made sure to check in and inform me of my furry babies behavior throughout their visit and we appreciated that very much. Thank you guys for everything. It was the purrfect visit!
If there were only places like this for our human care..........This practice is outstanding. I have been with them for many years. I have two dogs that both have serious medical problems. Very professional, resourceful, kind, caring and I could just go on and on. I am a very particular pet owner and look for the best possible care for my dogs. I have found that here and in addition they take good care of me too!Dr. Shorter and Dr. Kalvig are my primary vets but I have met everyone on staff and they are all wonderful and collaborative. Thank you for always being there for us!
I’m so so lucky to have found them. The space is clean and great… the staff friendly and truly care and the doctors are amazing. Makes such a difference that they are not in a hurry to get you out but take the time to help and explain everything. They’ll also follow up after a vaccination on how your pet is doingLike I said, so lucky to have found them. Can’t recommend them enough.
Dr. Shorter, Kalvig and team are the most amazing vets and people whom I’ve trusted to care for my dogs over the past 20+ years. They are excellent clinicians and people and when something is out of their realm of expertise they are comfortable advising to others who are more specialized. I’ve had an English bulldog and 2 frenchies which are not always easy to manage health issues. I would recommend them to anyone!
I came to Kalvig recently when my 14.5 year old Cavaliers kidney disease rapidly progressed. They were simply amazing taking care of her and helping me through this stage of her life and end of life. They were incredibly attentive and thorough with her care. They called me 2-3 times a day to check in on her and talked me through all available options. The entire team was just so caring. A big thank you.
Kalvig & Shorter is the hidden gem of veterinarians in NYC. I wish I knew about them years ago! From setting up the initial consultation to the visit itself everything was flawless. Dr. Kalvig is a cat whisperer! It was as if my cat was actually happy to be at the vet. Aaaaammmazing! The location is convenient, their office hours are wonderful (open every day of the week!), and this is the best pricing I have encountered for a vet in 20 years in NYC. Thrilled that I was recommend this vet by my attorney. Whisky and I thank you so much! Highly recommend. :) Two paws up!
A pet is a member of the family. And like us they deserve the best medical attention. Without question, Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Associates is the best place to go. The personal attention and love they provide through their experience and knowledge is excellent. If your pet needs care, go here.
In speaking with others about the efficacy of Google, I have found that readers tend to gloss over extremely positive reviews and gravitate to the less-flattering ones. After all, if someone has lavished praise about a business and awarded it Five Stars, thats all well and fine, but our curiosity is heightened when we come across a One or Two-Star review: we want to learn what was (purportedly) so very wrong with an establishment and thusly be.... forewarned. In any case, I just read many of the Google reviews for Kalvig & Shorter Veterinary Associates, and was astonished to learn that a number of them were not completely effusive, as I myself have nothing but high praise for the entire practice. So: 5-Stars it is.I dont want to bore anyone with tedious stories about how knowledgeable and compassionate they are. That should be a given. If you think that your vet is lacking in either of those two respects - maybe you should find another vet. Instead, I will list some of the many positives about K & S that readily come to mind:1. Dr. Barbara Kalvig has been my vet for many years. Since 1989, I have followed her in three different locations. Google her!2. Every veterinarian in the practice is assisted by wonderful technicians . They are not merely doing things by rote, but aregenuinely learning daily through the tutelage of the doctor they areaiding.3. The front desk staff is usually very receptive to me -- both in personand on the phone. Yes, sometimes they get busy and a littleoverwhelmed; but thats the nature of an Animal Hospital.4. Their current location on East 39th street is immaculate andwelcoming. Is it far for me....? You bet. It is a huge pain for me tohave to travel two miles with a pet carrier. But I do it gladly, in thesame way I would go far to see my own doctor.5. Over a thirty-year period, I have had to bring in cats & a dog forregular check-ups, more comprehensive check-ups, a surgery andEnd-of-Life care. Every occasion is uniquely etched in my mind, because, after all, what is more important than our pets.In case it was not evident, I would recommend Kalvig & Shorter without any reservation.
Super nice and responsive! We are fostering a dog and she unfortunately turned out to have a medical problem. We were able to get a same day appointment, the pup really liked everyone, and the team at KSV who helped us was incredibly nice, plus we got two callbacks from a vet tech and the doctor the next day to check-in on things. Highly recommend this vet! We had a great experience.
We found ourselves in New York City enroute to Ireland with our two pets only to find the Vet we had booked, were not in a position to complete all the necessary paperwork (despite their previous assurances). Kalvig and Shorter were able to assist us at very short notice and compete the required examinations and paperwork. The reception staff were extremely professional and helpful, going out of their way to ensure we had multiple copies, produced in record time to ensure we met the USDA office hours and the Doctor was extremely thorough and professional.i would have no hesitation in recommending this practice for all your veterinary needs
I have been bringing my senior pug to see Dr. Kalogreas for the past year and been very happy with the care she provides. She provides very personalized care and takes the time to review my pugs history and provides a very thorough exam. I never feel rushed and she is very good about answering my questions.I didnt realize that Kalvig & Shorter have a boarding service so it has also been very convenient for us to board our senior pug there. We used to board our pug with family members but now that are greater risks due to his age and health it gives us comfort to know that he is well cared for at the vet while we are out of town.I would highly recommend Dr. Kalogreas and Kalvig and Shorter.
Kalvig and Shorter are wonderful! Their staff is friendly, kind, and helpful. They were able to address a long list of issues with my dog and cat and helped them both feel better in just a few days of bringing them in. We felt very taken care of, especially in the middle of a pandemic. I recommend them to anyone in the area!
We brought our Cavapoo puppy to Kalvig & Shorter and have been very happy with the care theyve provided over the past several months. They helped guide us through the vaccination process and answered the many questions we had as new dog owners.Shout to to Melissa for being our dogs favorite - we felt so comfortable when we saw that she was working the day we dropped off our puppy for his neutering!
The veterinarian, Dr. Shephard, took the time to answer all of my questions for my puppys first pet visit, and explained everything very thoroughly. I really appreciated this! They were very timely, responsive and helpful, and it was so easy to schedule an appointment with them, I would definitely recommend!
Dr. Kalvig and Dr. Shorter are top notch. Veterinary experts and specialists. They always have a precise diagnosis and know the perfect treatment. We have been with Dr. Kalvig and Dr. Shorter for over 20 years. The best medical care and the nicest people. Thank you for everything.
Very friendly Vets, including Dr. Cohen who called me multiple times without prompting to check in and make sure my dog Buddy was doing alright.Hours are GREAT... theyre open when most other Vets are closed (Sundays, late nights during the week)Front desk staff, especially Robin, are incredibleTheyve also been super helpful during Covid... professional, available, accommodating, and easy to deal with despite all the challenges presented by the pandemicWould 100% recommend them
This place is the best. The consideration, care and respect that they have shown my Scottish Terrier and his owner is amazing and most appreciated. The entire office is amazing. They are always available for my questions, they are well informed and have plenty of patience with my sometimes endless questions.Dr Kalvig is a wonderful doctor and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I am grateful to have found Kalvig and Shorter as my veterinarian in NYC.
Best vet experience I have ever had. Compassionate, caring but do not push you to engage in heroic care if that is not what you are interested in. I feel very comfortable with these folks. They are honest, hardworking and will care for your pet with the same passion that you would.
Ive known Dr. James Shorter for approximately 20 years. He was the treated all my dogs with the finest, most compassionate and thoughtful care. He is meticulous in his work, always thorough in his exams, explains in detail why and what he is doing and has years of experience with which to rely on. His love of animals is clearly on display and he treats each client that comes in as if they were his own. He genuinely loves his job and thinks of it as a privilege to get to work with such magnificent creatures. Personally, he is also one of the kindest human beings Ive ever met. He understands how much our pets meant to us and the human-animal connection. KSV might be a bit more expensive than other vets in NYC but it is well-worth the money. You will get excellent care from any of the vets you see there but I personally recommend Dr. Shorter or the very wonderful and highly respected Dr. Kalvig. She is a terrific person and a highly skilled veterinarian, also with years of experience under her belt. I would entrust any of the four vets at KSV with my sweet cocker spaniel. I also know shes in good hands. The vet techs are all very professional, skilled and very caring as well. They know each dog personally so when you call or need to check in on your dog you dont feel that you are getting just a stock answer. They truly know the little details about your animal that make you feel your pet is being treated well. Jose is fantastic and always gives us a follow-up phone call when Bey has been in for a procedure to make sure she is healing well. I cant imagine going anywhere else with my dog. She means the world to me and to know that she is getting the best care possible means I can rest a little easier.
Dr. Kalvig is the most thorough, compassionate, and thoughtful vet I have ever come across. She complelty investigates the root of the problem, and gives you all of the information about your animals illness. She also really takes her time with ever patient and has a wonderful, soothing manner. Ive learned more about caring for my cat, and specifically ways to avoid vet visits, by feeding, and medicating her properly. Highly Recommend KSV Veterinary Associates.
Made the switch from another local vet in the neighborhood due to our unhappiness with the treatment of our cat for a variety of reasons. Picked Kalvig and Shorter due to the reviews and havent been disappointed. The practice is very thorough, consistent, follows up to check in on progress, and isnt forceful in their recommendations. Have been impressed by their desire to talk through all options and come to a decision that owners are most comfortable with.
Kalvig & Shorter is best of breed. My 10 year old chocolate lab was a patient here, and I am amazed by their gift of impeccable veterinary service. Pre and post operative attention to detail, thorough reviews of medical history, compassionate, experienced and professional staff and that small town feeling that you are the only customer that matters in a clean and stress-free welcoming space are just a few of the things you will encounter at Kalvig & Shorter. When Delilah died, the entire staff was so supportive and they kept my spirits up with kind gestures that made an unbearable time a little bit easier. Since Ive been looking at new dogs to rescue, Dr. Shorter has reviewed their records and provided great advice on questions to ask. When I do get my new dog, Ill be excited to make Kalvig and Shorter a part of the family. In the meantime, I continue to recommend them to everyone!
I had also the worst possible experience with this clinic (as described by the other contributor on the Yelp). I lived and brought my pet to the vets in the 4 counties ranging from Europe, Asia to Africa, this is undoubtedly the most unprofessional veterinary clinic I have ever visited. My dog has been suffering from diarrhea for almost 2 weeks (not recovered yet), and I regret choosing this place with so called “over 50 years of experience in veterinary medicine in Manhattan. When I brought her stool sample on Saturday night (7:55pm) about 2 weeks ago, there was rainwater on the bottom of the sample deposit box. I had to reverse it to drain before putting the sample container there. It was obvious the clinics staff did not check inside before leaving, and not much attention to the hygiene. I informed the clinic of this, no explanation on this, no acknowledgement mail of receipt of the stool sample either. When I called the clinic on following Monday (MLK Day), describing her state went more severe, having bloody diarrhea. Finally, the treatment (Cerenia 24mg, Metronidazole 100mg)started from the next day. The doctor told me to come back 10 days later (28th Jan) to get another stool exam. During 10 days, her state went better, but she is still having loose stools. When I called the clinic on to verify if I can visit the clinic 10 days after on 28th, as anticipated, the reservation was not there. Finally, the vet told me that we should try a different medicine, and 5-6 days after, we would administer another stool exam for her. This did not happen, because, the clinic did not have this medicine…!! The receptionist told me that I could purchase it online, and she would send me the link. The link has not been sent to me yet (2 days after this call). I also asked the clinic to send all the invoices/receipts in PDF by email to me, yesterday, finally I got after 2 weeks with my 3 reminder mails. It must be worthwhile to mention, these two times of visits, awful experience costed $687. I had to call every time to follow up, asking for calling back. Now, I am fully convinced to stop here. Very unprofessional place. I hope that my experience will be of help to someone considering visiting this clinic in order not to victimize your pet.
Dr Kantor is amazing as always. Hospital itself is extremely clean! Tech staff are good. Front staff are nice and experienced competent. As long as Dr Kantor is at K & S we will be at K&S. Prices are standard for my size dog. Vaccines are a bit less than I have paid at other practices, which is a plus when making sure you are up on bordetella and influenza vaccines to help prevent or minimize the effects of canine influenza/kennel cough. We’ve got Meet the breeds to go to —Thanks K&S!
Amazing. Cannot say enough good things.Moved to NYC with an ill 18 year old Tonkinese cat. I was able to board my cat with them and he got VIP treatment at reasonable cost for Manhattan. There was no unnecessary testing or costs. When he got sick to the point of deciding aggressive care vs end of life, I felt supported, informed, and my preferences respected. I never got surprise bills and never felt pressured. I was able to trust excellent clinical decision making by all the vets, but especially Dr. Kalogreas. I am very grateful for the many conversations, flexibility, and generous availability by phone or for same day appointments or house visits Dr. Kalogreas offered. It reduced the stress tremendously of caring for my sick cat. I only wish human medicine were practiced this way.All the staff from receptionists to the technicians were incredible. They were kind and gentle, to my cat (and me), knowledgeable. I was always informed and responded to immediately.Wanted to give a big warm thank to everyone who cared for my cat. I knew he was in good hands and surrounded by love in what was his last month of life, allowing me to do needed travel for work and to see my aging parents.Ultimately, he died at home with me. I was able to bring his remains for cremation. It was all efficient and reduced trauma of losing a beloved cat.I knew everyone loved him like he was their own. I could not have asked for more.
My dog Chewy and I have been going to Drs Kalvig and Shorter for almost a year. They are amazing! Honestly, I wish there were more human doctors like them. Whenever Chewy is sick one of the doctors or nurses calls for a couple of days to check in and see how he is doing. Booking an appointment is very easy- whenever Chewy is super sick we havent had an issue getting in to see someone that day. Their location is very convenient and even though the doctors are not there late most nights there is someone answering calls until 10 PMish. I recommend them to everyone!
I have known Dr. Kalvig for almost 30 years. I have trusted her skill as a Veterinarian and have been comforted with her support. She is always willing to spend as much time as is necessary during an office visit, and is always available to speak to you on the phone. I would recommend Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Assoc. without reservation.
This was my second visit, with my second cat. Marley is a very docile cat but gets like a wild animal at the vet. Dr. Kantor was very patient with Marley - trying her best to make him comfortable. The last resort was to tranquilize him in order to take his tests and blood work. We went back an hour later to find a very unhappy, but hopefully healthy cat. It was my second very positive experience.
My dog received wonderful treatment from Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Associates since he was born. Drs. Shorter and Kalvig are both very knowledgable and extremely careful to provide detailed information and explanations, Perhaps most importantly, they are wonderfully caring and compassionate. The office staff is also always very attentive and helpful. I recommend them highly.
Dr. Kantor is an excellent vet and the vet tech staff are wonderful. We trust her thoroughly with our animals. She will get to the issue and solve it without subjecting one to several repeat visits and absurd medications. She only does what is needed and is highly knowledgeable. I can not recommend her highly enough.
My little Chihuahua was in need of some thoughtful medical help. She had so many problems during our nearly seven years of mutual adoption. It was wonderful that I met Dr Aranow. She evaluated Louisa’s records and a. thorough examination and devised a plan to work on Louisa’s needs. They included a medicine and behavioral program. Once the medicine began she also called to see how Louisa took to it. And promised to call again.Everything was clearly explained and promising. All of the staff I met were kind and helpful. Itwas a delight to find a practice like Kalvig andShorter’s and Dr. Aranow.
I had to find a vet quickly after my dog ate some chocolate. I could not have been more fortunate to have found Kalvig and Shorter. They were incredibly caring and professional, taking great care if my pup and communicating clearly and patiently. Ideal experience under the circumstances.
My kitten from ASPCA vomited a roundworm on a Sunday afternoon so I booked an appointment with Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary. I brought the roundworm and showed the roundworm to Dr. Kalogreas for examination. As a first time cat owner, I simply relied on her professional expertise. First, our appointment was treated as an emergency price rate. Then she proceeded to give my 11 week old kitten a CERENIA injection when it’s meant for cats 16 weeks and older. Furthermore, she tried to give my kitten an IV fluid injection. It was when I heard my kitten screaming in their back room before I put an end to the madness. Apparently, she couldn’t find my kitten’s vein. The final straw was when she insisted to keep my kitten overnight at the clinic because it’s very dangerous to vomit roundworms.I blame myself for my lack of knowledge so my kitten suffered through this ordeal. I now know a simple deworming medicine would’ve been suffice.
Dr. Shorter and the whole KSV team is simply wonderful and so caring, we couldnt have found a better place to take care of our kittens. I was really worried about an operation and Dr. Shorter spent 20 minutes on the phone with me to walk me through it. I am a tough judge, and these folks are spectacular and loving people.
The BEST VETERINARIANS in the Upper East sideIf you are looking for a wonderful, professional and affordable vet then go to Kalvig & Shorter. They are excellent! The staff is so caring, loving and knowledgeable. I am so very thankful that I found them.Pauline K.Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:00AM - 11:00PM
I wasn’t able to go to them because of their availability and my urgency but the front desk alone was so nice and helpful. She was attentive and kind, gave me the number to a walk in clinic and told me to call her for anything and just good energy I’d want next time Butcher needs a doc.
Wonderful caring efficient people at Kalvig and Shorter. Not the most reasonable, but I think worth it. You dont have the feeling that you are not on an assembly line. They listen to your concerns, explain as much as you need, and do good follow up. Unfortunately my outcome with my wonderful cat was not a good one, but Dr. Hardcastle, Jose, and the rest of the team made my very traumatic day an experience as good as it could be. Would highly recommend. Would go back.
Three dogs all with special needs. Drs.Shorter and Kalvig treated my babies with brilliance kindness and impeccible accuracy as to each individual need.Mac required knees surgery Madison needed immediate surgery in order to avoid a rupture. I have many Drs throughout the years but none finer humaitarians passionate about care hence honorable in every capacity. You need not go anywhere else ever. The finest care in the tri state area.

2022-06-08Kalvig and Shorter has consistently provided the most outstanding service at all times. The doctors are exceptionally qualified, competent and very professional in their approach and treatment of any and all situations. When your pets become patients of Kalvig and Shorter, you become a member of their family and you are treated with the utmost respect and care for your pets. I have known both Drs. Kalvig and Shorter for well over a decade and have been extremely satisfied with their work. And my pets have come to know the staff and even they recognize that they are getting the very best care possible. When your pets feel comfortable and cooperative with the doctors, then you know you have the best staff!

2022-05-24I have been bringing my Maltipoo Chopper here since I got him. I will admit at first I was a little weary to go to a private vet practice in NYC, making assumptions about how expensive everything would be. My mother warned, Make sure you get everything off Chewy! due to to her own experiences in a very non-metropolitan area. After a few months of pretty regular appointments (Chopper is too small to double up on vaccines) I am happy to say my assumptions proved to be wrong. Not only are the prices very reasonable but whenever I get products like Choppers GI wet food, I find it is cheaper than other online stores. We have mostly seen Dr Kalvig but have also seen Dr Aronow and Dr Chiao. All of them have been outstanding. Chopper never seems scared or upset after his visits and when he gets shots they even do a cold laser on him to ease his pain (which seems to help a lot). The suggestions made seem to be with love of animals and as a pet owner that makes the experience much better. I have had such a good experience at Kalvig and Shorter that if I left Manhattan for another borough or New Jersey I would still make the commute to get this caliber of service.

2022-06-06My 3-year old Shichon has been a happy patient of this vet practice during my business trips to New York City. The veterinarians we have seen have all been super kind and knowledgeable, and everyone has been really helpful to us while traveling. The level of service and compassion that this group provides to people and their pets (I know many of them) is excellent. I appreciate their follow-up calls to check on Quincy after each visit while they provide prompt f/u information to my regular vet back home. I feel so lucky that one of my co-workers referred me to KSV!

2022-08-13Dr. Kalvig and Dr. Shorter have an AMAZING practice! They provide the attention your pet deserves, making sure you are well-aware and educated on whats happening and what next steps are with your pet. Whenever I have any issue with my baby pup, I go to them 11/10 times. Best vet in the city by a mile!

2022-03-26They took wonderful care of my Maltese pup named Otis. He had an accident and lost his nail and part of his toe and they repaired him quickly and carefully and he did not have to have major surgery. They checked on him often and treated him like he was their own. Great service and bedside manor with creative and thoughtful solutions. They are the best!

2021-08-17Im so grateful to have found Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Associates. I took in my furry son about three years ago and he was in terrible shape. A massive tumor on his foot, practically hairless, filthy with minimal appetite and clearly traumatized- I was honestly terrified to bring him into a veterinary office because I was scared of what options they would offer once they saw his condition. I knew he was sick and in need of consistent special care so making the choice of the right vet was crucial. When I brought my pup into the office I knew I had made the right decision by going to Dr. Kalvig. She created a step by step treatment plan, broke down aspect from each test they would run to the costs so that I could understand the plan clearly before making a decision that was right for me and my dog. We agreed on the plans for treatment and went forward and Im so happy I did it. My dog is now cancer free, covered in salt and pepper fur with a strong energy level and appetite. I honestly wish my own doctor addressed me with the attention to detail and kindness Dr Kalvig and associates give to their patients. The associates have also been very reliable, quick to respond to any questions or concerns I may have and they even call to check in after each appointment which I absolutely love. I wanted a veterinary office that would genuinely care about the well being of my pet and thats exactly what I received! Kalvig and Shorter is the only vet I trust with my pet.I mean look how happy he is, how many dogs smile at the vet?

2022-06-03The two stars above are for Puja’s excellent personality and front office management. She clearly treated my dog as her own when we used this office from 2019-2020. We also received acceptable, standard care for vaccines and check ups.Even though it’s two years later, I feel compelled to write this review about our problems with a slightly more difficult health problem. I had a scrawny puppy that was adopted from a breeder. She managed to develop a severe bladder infection that required multiple urine tests and different courses of treatment. The veterinarians on staff repeatedly struggled to take the samples, despite insuring that my dog had a full bladder upon arrival. They also incorrectly prescribed medications based on the type of infection she had, and gave me incorrect instructions to follow for my dog’s care. I only knew to question them based on previous animals I have cared for. Finally one day they could not obtain the urine sample we needed when our dog was getting worse. They directed us to the emergency vet (a completely different office) who obtained the sample with no issue. When I asked the emergency vet if it was a difficult procedure, she said absolutely not.Throughout all of this stress, there were so many miscommunications and over-charges on bills that I am glad we moved away and had the opportunity to find another vet who has taken excellent care of my baby.Again - while we were there, Puja and the assistants were amazing. Unfortunately the vets lacked in both medical experience, communication skills, and bedside manner. This may have occurred two years ago, but I felt it my duty to share and make others aware to strive and be the best advocates for their pets.

2022-05-07I have been coming to this vet for some time now. I have a 2 year old deaf frenchie named Betty. Every time I have been here my decisions for my dogs health have been met with judgement and disdain. I made an appointment to bring Betty in because she was due for some vaccines, including an allergy shot. I was asked by multiple staff members, multiple times, if my dog was here for the flu shot. I continuously told them I was not here for the flu shot and I have never given or even heard of the flu vaccine for Betty. It seemed like they were trying to make an extra dime off of me and my dog. A few minutes later, Dr. Aranow came out telling me that she accidentally gave Betty the flu shot. They tried to pretend that it wasn’t a big deal but that they didn’t want to do all of her other vaccines and they would do it in 2 weeks. Their way of fixing this was by assuring me I would not be paying for the flu vaccine. They did not offer to pay for her entire visit until I made a stink about paying. They waived a few of the fees, but still requested me to pay for the other fees. Any other vet I have been to would have immediately owned up to their mistake and comped the entire visit without me even having to ask. When I was getting ready to pay, they “accidentally” charged me for everything, which really seemed like they were trying to get one over on me. I only agreed to pay because I felt intimidated and guilty about asking to not pay and I just wanted to get out of there. I wouldn’t recommend this vet to anyone. When looking for a vet it’s important that they listen to the requests of the owner and this vet does not do that. They seem to care much more about making an extra buck than they do about the welfare of your pet.EDIT: Dr. Kalvig very kindly reached out to me both by email and by phone to discuss what happened. I greatly appreciated that she took the time to apologize and to understand and better her practice. They also refunded me the entire cost of the visit, which was very much appreciated.

2019-08-17Dr Kalvig has been our vet for over 20 years. Shes very profession and caring + nice to me + my dogs. The offices are clean + nice + I even board my dogs there when I travel. Her staff are so nice to my dogs when Im away that I almost feel no guilt in leaving them.
