If you want authentic Afghan food come here. Was very satisfied with the meal. The atmosphere was welcoming, and wasn’t your typical afg restaurant. Very modern and clean, a place you wanted to sit and eat. The food was fresh and flavorful, it’s what you expect when you want real Afghan kabob. Got the combo platter, can’t go wrong. Sauces were on point too👌🏼. Def will be back.
Stony Brook MSA (muslim students association) recently made a big catering order for 120 people and absolutely loved the restaurant. Food was amazing and everyone enjoyed. Extremely kind owner and son helped us out and made everything happen smoothly. We will definitely be ordering again for big events in Ramadan inshaAllah !!
Chicken Tikka and Kofta are particularly tender and juicy. Quality has been consistent every time. They also have halal cart style chicken and lamb over rice if you ask for it. For those who don’t know, asking for Qabuli (carrots and raisins) over a rice dish will enhance the flavor of almost anything.
I wish I had better pictures to truly do this place justice. Their food is amazing. The mantoo is out of this world and full of delicious flavor. I’m not really sure how else to describe this place but excellent. And for take out or delivery only during these times, it’s worth it. Their kofta and chicken tikka is tender, and not dried out like many other places I have eaten at. The rice? THE RICE IS AMAZING. I’m not a big rice eater at all, but this rice as a meal on its own is delectable. Oh yeah, the tea is really good too. 12/10 I come here again and recommend.
On the 21st of January, 22. My family and I got the chance to travel to Long Island from Manhattan. This tasty and spotless eatery was discovered on the way return to home. The pleasant welcome we received was unforgettable by the staff which I believe was Asaal. We were given particular treatment by the lady behind the counter. Her hospitality was exceptional. She is a gem.I ended up ordering takeout for my entire family because the food was so delicious and fresh. There is a parking lot outside. This is a place I will definitely recommend and return to. And I hope to get the same services again by the dedicated team member.Above and beyond standards. Thank you for your five start services and food.
I normally try to avoid Afghan food when I go out because that’s what we cook at home most of them time lol …. But this was very close to Kabul kabob very yummy and my family loved the freshness of it and the fast service was amazing…….what really took the show away was they had baby chairs available for your little one and having the preeni reminded me of my mothers … and the chai was the cheery on top of everything …..the start is missing for the mantu it wasn’t that great honestly I feel like it could’ve been better … but over all everything was amazing ….
Nice place with improved decor and great service nice menu the food was delicious I highly recommend Kandahar Kabab for all Afghani and halal food mantu was the best and kabab was delicious we will be coming again inshallah I will give 5 stars to Kandahar kabab in Hicksville NY
I was just about to post a review and noticed this review below : To the person below , there Lamb chops are amazing and you must be blind they are the cheapest in the neighborhood. You can look at the picture on the menu. I have been going them every day since their soft opening for dinner after work, hands down the best food. There chicken is the most juiciest compared to other places I have tried . Their beef is amazing, never rough, always tender and soft. And the lamb chops they are out of this world.
My mother pointed out Kandahar Grill to me during one of our visits to Hicksville. Today, we decided to try take out and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The preparation time for the food was accurate. When I walked in, I was greeted by a very sweet lady. The order was perfect and smelled so good. Mom and I couldnt dig in fast enough. I dont usually finish all my food, but this lamb tikka was so darned good and tender. I finished it all and thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did mom. If youre debating whether you should try Kandahar Grill, stop debating and try it!
We loved the kabuli family combo. The dish came with plenty of rice, kebab, bread and salad. $44.99 + tax ($50) was very reasonable for the dish. Better than the kabab house family combo. We will go back. I highly recommend this place for all afghan food lovers. 🇧🇩 + 🇦🇫
By far one of the best kabab restaurants Ive been to. Plenty of options to choose from on the menu.I ended up getting the lamb Tikka, Chicken Tikka, Chicken kofta, and beef kofta all served with salad and qabuli. Everything came out nice and quick. Every meat was super tender and flavorful. I usually drown my food in the white sauce but I didnt put any on the meats because of the robust flavors they already had.I didnt realize until I finished eating, but there is a kabab sampler for a very good value. Would recommend to everyone who wants some great food.
Went there this past weekend place was packed out but still was able to get my order fresh and within 15 minutes! When I say that was absolutely quality food I mean it was QUALITY. I ordered chicken tikka and kofta platter and it was delicious. My new Afghan go-to spot!
Went to this place as it was recommended by a friend. I was warmly greeted by the staff and the felt that the ambiance was excellent. The food was prepared in good time and tasted delicious. I ordered their new special burger with halal bacon and it was out of this world! I also had chicken kabob and the meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. The rice was fresh as well and cooked to perfection. The white sauce is the best I’ve had at any Afghan restaurant. Highly recommend! To the owner of Kandahar Grill, you have a regular customer now!
This food was fantastic. I was visiting from Texas and a friend recommended it because it had just opened. I have had afghan cuisine all over the US and this one is up there with the best of them. Definitely the best in New York. It actually reminded me of the Afghan restaurants in Toronto that are well known. The food was very fresh. The Staff was amazing. The restaurant is very clean. Definitely stop by if you are in the area. Actually I recommend going out of your way to go to this restaurant. Your taste buds will thank you.
First came across this place when I seen them on Instagram. So I had to go try them, and I was not disappointed! The kababs were so juicy and the taste got better with each bite. My favorite part was the wide variety of sauces that they offer. So delicious! The owner and staff were friendly and very welcoming as well. Definitely not my last time going here, Until next time!
Amazing Excellent Food and Service, I came in today with group of 15-20 people. They served the family size platters with excellent service and great tasting Afghani food. The two brothers I had the pleasure of meeting, provide AMAZING FOOD Taste and Quality. Customer Service was beautiful. Coming from a foodie expert for middle eastern cuisines. I highly recommend a visit here. Enjoy and thank you to the staff.
Amazing food. This place was recommend to me by my friend and the food is out of this world. I ordered the chicken and beef kofta kabob. It melts in your mouth and the rice is beautifully seasoned. Hours are great since theyre open so late. The menu has a lot of options. The ambiance of this place is so cool. It has a beautiful mural on the wall and theyre always playing a cool movie. The food is classy, and large portions. Most definitely coming back again!
Had the most amazing Afghan food from Kandahar Grill over the weekend. Haven’t tried them before so I’m happy to say everything was delicious!!! Meats were succulent and cooked perfectly and the brown “qabuli” rice was to die for. They give you the white, green mint sauce, red sauce, bread and salad with it. We got two of the family platters which have chicken tikka, chicken kofta, lamb tikka, and beef tikka. Mustapha, who took our order was really sweet and polite and gave us complimentary pickles to try. Will definitely go back for more!!
First of all I try all the afghan restaurants in hicksville and so far Bakhtar is my favorite. I heard about this place from a family friend and decided to give it a try. This place is a take out place and there is no taste to the meat. The rice is just boiled rice with no flavor. The prices is crazy for the portion they offer. Afghan traditional food is totally different. I’ve even been to the one in New Jersey and it’s way better. I don’t know why the reviews said it tastes like the one in Toronto because it is nothing compared to that one. I am sorry but I won’t recommend this place to anyone who is looking for traditional afghan food. I read all the good reviews but I was very disappointed.
I have been looking at the reviews and most of the reviews are good but a few bad ones and was hesitant to go- but decided to give it a try and see for myself. Looking at the place, it is not a place with waiters, so you will have to order and seat yourself. Not a big deal !The food was actually very good and actually finished my plate and so did my kids - which was very surprising since they never finish their plate !!Keep up the good work and keep making the delicious food!! We will definitely be coming again.
Ordered a number 16. Chicken tikka and a lamb tikka combo also tried there dumplings. Ordered a spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich is good which the guy recommended as burgers. But for the combo, needs improvement. The chicken was tender but no flavor. The lamb was off smaller than the chicken n it smelled n had a different taste. I have had better from Choopan and Mediterranean grill in Westbury. Dumplings would not get again.
Edit: My first review below was take out. I’ve had two more experiences where I ate inside the restaurant and I must say this place is the best quality and taste of food in the area by a long shot. My issues mentioned below were not issues on my 2 other visits.Original review:Food was good but I def have some issues I hope the owner addresses:Chicken: 5 stars - juicy and tenderRice: 3 stars - not the best textureBread: 2 stars because it was stale and hard but I didn’t let this effect my rating because I might of just gotten stale bread. Maybe they need to store it better over nightSauce: 5 stars - I had them all and they were all delicious HOWEVER all the plastic cups were filled up half way and some only 1/4 way. What a waste of plastic!! People will ask for extra sauces because they don’t give enough and waste even more plastic!
I’ve been passing this place on my way to work everyday and finally saw it opened today! Let me just say, this place is incredible! The chicken was so flavorful - seasoned really well and cooked to perfection, probably the best I’ve had and better yet their pricing is unbeatable. They recommended the mantu as an appetizer and mentioned it’s one of their specialties - one word DELICIOUS. The atmosphere and decor is stunning. The owners were very friendly and nice. Definitely will be back soon! Highly recommended to everyone!
Amazing authentic afghan outstanding kabob. You can not go wrong with ordering anything from this beautiful restaurant. I recommend the chicken kabob with white sauce and their own secret “red sauce”. Hashmat the manager is very good at handling the business and all your needs.
Excellent traditional Afghan food with an amazing Kandahari twist. If anyone wants to try true authentic Afghan food, this is the place to try. From the variety of sauces to the food, I’ve been nothing short of impressed. This place is a one-stop shop for all your Afghan food cravings.
Went there with my niece on Friday evening. I was curious to try a new place, and had examined their menu before going in. I was especially looking forward to trying dishes I had not had before so we ordered the Bolani. What we got was nothing like the pictures and recipes I had seen on the web. The version served at the restaurant was a little pale, the pieces were limp and oily. Then we had the lamb chops. Nice, but nothing to rave about. I dont see myself craving lamb chops from Kandahar Kabab. I have eaten better in Hicksville. We also got the chicken kababs - a little on the underdone side, and bland. The sauces on the side were good. Again, it wasnt inedible - it was alright. They serve a strip of crisp bread with each dish. This does not replace a Naan and I say this, as that was my expectation - not a promise made by the restaurant. Overall, it was an ok meal and experience. I dont see myself rushing back, or promising to take my relatives over on their next visit.
Food was horrible and no taste to the food. Honestly just read the response from the last review from the Owner. Owner needs to learn how to respect a customers point of view. Please remember this is for customer to put their review and opinion of the restaurant. You are not a fast food restaurant, your prices for lamb chops are over 20 bucks. I came with my father and brother in law and honestly just like a dog you give me a tray and I have to service myself. Please change Kandahar kababs to Kandahar fried chicken and gyro kababs. Hire people and please get someone who can teach you how to make kababs the right way. I been going to chopan for 10 years their food and service is the best. Sorry but don’t get upset. Its just my opinion. We came to your restaurant and thought you guys are the best especially because all the reviews but I guess not.
I think this reataurants afghan food is genuine and authentic. The Kabuli pulao I had here was excellent, and so were the chicken kababs. I would come back to try more stuff here. Not sure why people are giving it negative reviews. I dont agree with those negative reviews at all.
Extremely disappointed at the quality of food being served at the Grand Opening— with so much competition in Hicksville with so many different Afghani Restaurants I envision they won’t survive long 👎🏿I gave them a try expecting the same quality I had Kandahar in Mississauga Canada but seems like they have stolen the name but no where closer to them in taste.Rice were hard and not fresh. My stomach is already hurting. I ordered $11.99 Qabuli Pullaow that was old-This place is not recommended - not going there again !
Went for lunch,We ordered fried fish and lamb palow / with qabuli ...Lamb palow was cold, had to return it , they warmed it up. Table was not clean, told them and asked them for napkins so we could clean ourselves. They gave us napkins gladly. Two customers in the restaurant.
I am a foodie and all I have to say is Woww. When I entered, there was ancient afghan vibes going on, It was very beautiful. I ordered the family platter for my fam with a side of mantu and we all loved it. Great customer service, Great food, and clean environment. Recommend this place for everyone. Great place to come out to with your family!
Ok guys it’s all a hype.Nothing at all like the way social media and everyone advertised. Food is so so nothing to go out of your way for. If your in the area and want some afghan food yeah why not stop by. But the WORST PART 1 they don’t have a server so if you’re with family and kids you have to get up and go order your food at counter and then go back to pick it up. And the best part lol they want you to clean up the table and return the dishes to them because they are not disposable plates they want you to bring it back by the counter amazing lol so you pay full price just as any other full service restaurant but then you have to do everything your self.
Start from beginning, saw ad on facebook that there is new restaurant opening in Hicksville, excited that kandahar name looks authentic, went ther with family,1- No waiters, so you have to order by yourself, then look for seats, and then tell the management to clean the table, thn look for sauce,2- Order food , restaurant opened 2 days ago, but some of the food, not available, went ther around 7 pm, and some of the dishes already finished, (Called Bad management).3- Wait for food atleast 30 mins. (depends on people in restaurant)4- Food just OK , (i tried Kabul grill, kabul kabab, choopan, Miraj, bakhtar, kabab, Nazar, sofia grill, almost all restaurant in Long island, ),5- Restaurant cleanSuggestion:, 1- If you guys need more people to come again and again thn you need good management,2- Food just ok , if you want to try, thats ok but not for going again and again.3- Restaurant need waiters4- Need food which authentic like (kandahar naan, afghani boti, afghani palau (available all the time) ,5- IF YOU OPEN SOMETHING NEW THN YOU HAVE TO TRY HARDER .THANK YOU
Very bad food dissappoinment.. it as nothing like afghani food choopan is so much better ... quality , staff was gud but there was no taste in it ..no salt in chicken it was prolly the worst tasted chicken I had won’t go back ... and had been waiting for so long for this place to open .. they need to work on the taste otherwise it won’t last long
A word of advice to the owner, by replying harshly back to the people who leave negative reviews you are ony doing more harm to your restaurant, if you can not stand to read such reviews just dont read it, the more defensive you become the more people will try to poke at you to get a response.

2022-05-16Beautiful Afghani cuisine joint for all the non vegetarians who like to satisfy their tastebuds cravings…😋However, dirty restrooms , with water splashed all over the floor and basin. And unflushed WC🚽 .Dirty baby highchair straps with old food particles visible from the past .Sauce was watery and honestly I didn’t find any taste in the kebabs. We ordered the kebab platter with bread ($34.99)🥖. When asked for a lime , was told they don’t have it!!!!Found it a little over priced.Enjoyed the kofta the though😋 .

2021-09-07Though Hicksville boasts many great restaurants and draws the crowds, Kandahar Grills Afghan eats is top notch. Their quality food is prepared with love. You can taste the family care. All of the meats were flavorful and juicy. The owner was extremely nice and offeredTo try the mantoo and bolani. As for the Family Platter we had chicken tikka, chicken kofta, lamb tikka, beef kofta lamb chops and chapli kebab which is served with qabuli, salad, bread and their 3 sauces. The interior was beautiful and now Kandahar is on my bucket list!

2022-03-22Coming from a pukhtoon background, I can honestly say their food is as close to Afghanistan as you can get. Their mantu and banjaan absolutely blew me away. Better than then the way my mom makes it. Their chicken kofta kebab is flavorful yet not overly salty like competitors. The establishment is a mom and pop shop, the owner is hospitable and takes his time explaining each items. The food is great quality while offering the best prices . I’ve placed one large orders so far and loved everything I received.

2022-04-14We catered from here for ramadan and everyone was raving about the food- the meats were spiced deliciously and their afghani bolani was amazing!!! Rice was also so flavorful along with all of their sauces. 10/10 recommend to anyone.
