Amazing food and service!!! The staff is very friendly !!!We had twice and tried the following :Gobhi manchurian, lava cake, chicken paal, tamarind chutney , veg samosa, idli , sambar, beetroot chutney, Palak chat , Baji , bhindi masala all all was sooo yummy!!!Chicken paal spicy is similar Andhra chilli chicken that we get in Bengaluru !!! Really really spicy !!!Really enjoyed the food
Decent Indian food. We tried idli, medu vada, Mysore masala dosa, Jackfruit kofta and veg biryani. They had good sambhar and chutneys. Mysore masala dosa was spicy for our liking and the jackfruit kofta curry was more sweet than we expected. But their veg biryani was really good 👍
We went to Lake George recently for a holiday. After a packed day full of excitement and adventure, going to Karavalli was like going home! Great food with ample vegetarian friendly options to pick. The ambience and service too added to our pleasant experience and I would love to visit this restaurant again. We orderedDosa, paneer masala, garlic naan, paneer and cheese naan, spiced buttermilk and more and each and every dish was absolutely delightful and delicious 😋I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Came to Saratoga visiting from Virginia. Foods not really authentic. Cooks aren’t even indian. They charge you for rice which I’m not used to. Chicken Vindaloo was way to sweet. But the chicken phaal was okay. The kebab appetizer was literally just Cicken wings with masala.
Recommended from a local and he was right on the money. The atmosphere was very intimate, perfect place for a first date or an anniversary. Unfortunately you have to deal with the typical Saratoga clientele, but you really cant control that issue. Nice thing is they subscribe to Uber eats so you can totally get out of that situation quickly.
Crafted to perfection! Tried their Karavalli Martini, Chickpea Salad, Crispy Eggplant and Aviyal the first time, and was blown away! Every dish and the cocktail was OUT Of The WORLD! Fresh ingredients, in the right proportion. Had to go there again, and go I did. Tried the Aviyal again, their cocktail Namaste and a plain dosa, and was at a loss of words! These are dishes Ive had all my life at home and outside, and I am a pretty good cook myself. Yet, Karavalli beat them all hands down. The vegetables in the Aviyal were cooked just right, the gravy was flavourful and of the right consistency, and the colors too, were a treat to the eyes. The plain dosa tasted better than Ive known, and the coconut and tomato chutneys (that are normally disappointing at most restaurants) were simply finger licking good! The fresh coconut oil tempering in all the dishes made it all the more delectable! Scooping out the last bit of every dish was very satisfying. To top it all, was great service!Move to New Jersey, Karavalli! I would pay twice the money, and even be a regular customer.
Good place to try out authentic Indian food. The idli, dosa, medu vada and green chutney are super! The lemon rice, chicken masala, fish curry, kebab are tasty. They have a decent number of desserts too. The gulab jamun especially is very good! Staff is very attentive and helpful.
Karavalli is the best in its field in Saratoga springs.Ive tried similar restaurants all over, from NYC, NJ, North Carolina and Philadelphia and this place does not fall from the best ones.Food quality is superb, deep and interesting flavors and large portions that will satisfy even the hungriest person.Do yourself and favor and check it out, you wont regret it.
A small, corner restaurant, lovely and elegant inside. The service was great and the food was spectacular. Standard Indian favorites, with all the spices you will love, but with more flavor and brightness than is typical. A wonderful experience. Prices were certainly fair, especially for the area. Will definitely go again.
Excellent food accompanied by good taste in decor, served by professional and cordial staff was all I wanted for my weeknight out with my wife. That is exactly what we found at Karavalli. A gem of a place, packed with exotic flavors, makes them stand out above a sometimes uniform culinary landscape. Well worth the visit.
Karavalli was the best Indian food we’ve ever had. They had all of your Indian staples that you’ve come to know, love, and enjoy but they somehow kicked it up a notch. All of the flavors were familiar but unique and so very indulgent. I could only eat their naan for the rest of my life and be happy. Must go if you’re in Saratoga!
The place was not too crowded yet it took long while (over 40 mins) to serve food. Taste was not bad, yet I have certainly had better food in similar places elsewhere... The trigger for a average star rating was that we discovered at the time of paying the bill that 20% tip was already included by default. We were 4 adults, and nowhere was it written that tips are included by default. Given the service, I would have given much lesser tip...
We dont live in the area, but drive through Saratoga every Fall and always stop here! The food is amazing, authentic, and fresh!! The dal makhni we had was incredible, and you can trust their menu, because you can taste how passionate they are about their food. Highly recommended, if you live in the area and havent tasted Indian cuisine, you must experience it here!!!
Out of this world.Literally the best date spot EVER.Walk out of there with a date for under 40, full course meal, leftovers and they treat you really good. Honestly the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The naan is exceptional the rice is perfect and every dish just superb. I tasted a sweet carrot desert that I’ve never had. *The staff are incredibly kind and hospitable. Me and my dates are always taken care of here and that means the most to me. 10/10 customer service. It’s fine dining but actually affordable. They do pickup as well. Love you guys!
We ate here a while ago and the food was excellent! I give 3 stars as my wife wanted indian food the other day she placed the order online and they charged her card twice but the email said order wasnt accepted, try calling them and for over 1.5 hours their phone had a dead tone as if it was engaged on another call! They say they are only open for pickup but wont pick up their phone! We would like to come back as its the only good Indian restaurant in town but lets see
This is my third time to Karavalli Regional Cuisine, and it never disappoint me. The food is so rich in flavor and depth. Every bites were pack with mixture of spices that would make you feel thrilled, and the size of their plate is decent for its price. If I am ready for another adventure of spices, this would be my first place to go.
First the good part. Totally felt safe dining in with everything they do for keeping it safe for people to dine in. They seem little overwhelmed with take out and dine in. Veg sampler appetizer was flavorless and the batter was very thick for bhajias. Paneer Kurchan and Jackfruit kofta we ordered had excellent flavors.
A refreshing change with focus on Kerala food makes it distinctly different than other indian restaurants. We visited this place couple of times during our week long stay at Saratoga Springs, including my wifes Birthday dinner. Aamwaala chicken and shrimp batkal are good within non-veg options. Within veg, dal tadka is good. They prepare perfectly to the level of spiciness you request. Several south indian options are available including mysore masala and other dosas. Bhujiyas are good within appetizer. Owners are very friendly too.
It was a great experience eating at Karavalli in Saratoga Springs. The place is very clean, the people are very polite, and of course, the food is really good! The food has the rich flavorful taste of authentic Indian cuisine, without the burning spicy taste. My picky-eater daughter, loves the chicken tandoori, so much! It’s the1st time she ate that much in a buffet restaurant.I definitely recommend this cozy place, for the good people, great food ,and very reasonable price.
A nice experience with mainly Kerala cuisine.Try Kerala cuisine esp. There are other northern Indian dishes too.Place is small, so you might have to wait. There are parking spots nearby but sometimes street parking can be difficult.People are very nice and felt homely.
Yum!! I love Indian food and this restaurant did not let me down and more importantly, turned my husband into an Indian food lover as well! Woohoo! The chicken tikka masala was good - very mild though. I prefer a bit more garam masala flavor. I wish they had mango lassi available for delivery, but without a doubt, we will order from here again.
Excellent meal and attention to the customer. We ordered two dishes and while they were delicious, one of our meals was a bit too spicy for our taste. We asked it take it to-go as our son would have liked it. Without asking, they remade the meal in a less spicy version and packed it up with additional rice. I was very impressed.
Very good food with what seemed like a slightly above average price. Perhaps its related to the area. Was staying in Glens Falls and this place popped up on a search. Went a bit out of my way to give it a try. The food was very flavorful and portions seemed about right compared to other places Ive tried. It was a bit pricey, however. I still enjoyed it.
Came here on a thursday evening, very light crowd. right away, the staff was very kind, respectful, and friendly. the only issue is that we werent told about the nights specials. it was written on a board on the wall. it should have been mentioned when we were given the menus - but i cant take a star away for that!!the food is legit South Indian food. Just amazing taste, fresh ingredients. The chef came out personally and asked us how things were. I had a chicken dish, spouse had the lamb biryani - everything was flavored correctly, lacking for nothing. the service was excellent, food came out timely manner. the place was relatively easy to find and close to where we were staying. i would totally go here again
Absolutely wonderful experience! My husband and I stopped in here shortly before closing on July 4th. We didnt feel rushed, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They have a phenomenal vegan menu. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The chef came out after we had finished our meal and asked us about our experience. And at the end, they opened the curtains and we got to watch the fireworks from our table! Will definitely be returning!
Fantastic Indian lunch buffet $11.99! Came here with 6 coworkers and sat in the small dining areal on the left. Staff was really attentive, always cleared the empty plates and filled our waters. The food was delicious and really fresh. The restaurant and its bathroom were very clean :)
Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious! We tried a wide variety of dishes from their large menu, including the vegetarian samosas, the meat platter, chicken tikka masala, lamb saag, and garlic naan. Service was excellent. This place definitely shot to the top of our favorites list in Saratoga. Highly recommend!
This is for BHAUMIN PATEL,you cultureless BARBARIAN,I have read your comments and that made me to write about this outstanding restaurant. My favourite restaurant,I have visited many times and everytime their service was impeccable, friendly environment, people are very polite and of course the food was delicious.First of all you living in America earning in American dollar you must understand the tipping culture of Americas. You must pay minimum 18% tip of the total Bill. If you dont want to pay any tips better to buy frozen food from Walmart or other grocery shops and enjoy rather than comments like this....you should have courtesy to support the restaurant at this unprecedented situation.Owner dont bother about this type of Barbarian.I will be visiting soon..
Food was nice and good taste. much better than other Indian joints in Lake George. They also prepared a custom order for kids, since they didnt want to take buffet. We were a group of 20 people, we call on our way , and they keep the space reserved for us. Keep up the food taste and service!
Best Indian food I’ve had in a while. Their seasoning was on point and not hastily done like a lot of other buffet places. Dinged then for a star because they are a little expensive, almost double a lot of city buffets in New York, but Saratoga is expensive and their quality is a cut above. I’m also taking the last star off because the buffet wasnt that big and I only loved half of what was on it( though that was more than enough for me and partly because I don’t like coconut curries) they are South Indians so they have some coconut flair. Could be a plus or minus depending on you
Well, this was a surprise. Just passing through and looking for lunch. I have eaten Indian food just about everywhere, including England and even India, but this has to rate with best. It was just for lunch but the choices were varied. The lamb curry was excellent, and they had this lentil dumpling dish that was nothing like Id ever had before. Highly recommended.
We were driving by Saratoga springs when we stopped here for lunch. There was a weekend Lunch buffet and the main course items were delicious!! The South Indian menu Items were mouth watering delicious and healthy too with a great variety of vegetables being used for different menu items. The servers took extra care of us by clearing the plates once we were done and checking up on us if we would like more Dosa. I was not happy with the desserts offered though. But I would not complain about the main course items and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
If you want to go to a nice, homily Indian restaurant (its brand new and well decorated), this is a good place to visit. You wont be disappointed with the dishes that they serve, and theyre not too heavy. The restaurant had a certain charm to its style and the waiters/staff were friendly.I gave this restaurant a four/five, losing one star because the food portions could have been a little larger.Price wasnt too bad (average dish is about $15.00 with a meat dish being about $17.00 which comes with rice, appetizers are about $4.00-5.00 each, and they have an extensive wine menu too). There is another restaurant only a block away by the name of Little India which has been around for longer and you might want to check out them too.If I had to choose between the two though, I would go with Little India for the slightly bigger size portions and slightly less expensive menus.
Firstly, I must admit I am from Kerala, the Malayalam speaking region which this restaurant represents. Hence the restaurant is owned and/or operated by Malayalees. My wife is also Indian, albeit American born. I will cover food quality first and then service. Before that, some general comments.Being that this place is in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs, lets face it, it caters to a 30s and up white American crowd. Indians, let alone, those from Kerala are rarely a demographic here. Pro tip for white Americans that are deciding on an Indian restaurant: Look at how many Indian folks dine there. This should be a general rule for any ethnic restaurant I guess. Additionally, white Americans can generally be very forgiving towards Indian restaurants as they do not have an expansive enough palate and knowledge to compare such food against others.I ordered the Alleppey Fish Curry (AFC) and my wife ordered the Chicken Biryani. I ordered the AFC intentionally as I was born in the Alleppey district and grew up eating this dish. My mother still makes it probably in the best way possible. So I know how it should taste. I will be honest. Karavallis version was very bland. The flavor of the mangoes which is supposed to give this dish a tangy flavor was practically nonexistent. The mangoes were low quality and as I bit into them, realized that they lacked flavor. The coconut flavor was, however fine. The quality of the fish was also flakey. The dish may pass muster for Non-Indians especially the patrons they cater to, but I will not lie. This isnt cooked authentically. The Biryani was just okay. For reference, keep in mind that Biryani is a North Indian dish and the restaurant is obviously South Indian. So my expectations were low. For comparison, look for Hyderabadi or Pakistani Biryani. These are usually the best in my opinion. Overall, I believe that since the restaurant does not obtain enough constructive criticism from patrons and does not have a customer base in tune with the cuisine, they cut corners and realize it does not affect them. To me, this is disingenuous. As a fellow Keralite, I would ask management to consider the fact that they are exclusively representing this cuisine in the capital district (South Indian Non-Veg restaurants, let alone Kerala cuisine is extremely rare in the states). By this token, management needs to do a better job in food preparation and quality. Now the service. The restaurant is small. Again, we noticed every patron was a middle aged white American. I guess this demographic covers about 95% of the people in the Saratoga area. Probably even more as I did not even spot a black person in the area. We were greeted by a young white female hostess who was just clearing the table. We were served jointly by another young white male waiter as well as a older Indian waiter (possibly Manager). We realized we were seated but never given menus. We had to ask for them as they totally neglected it. A middle age white couple walked in after us and they were greeted directly by the Indian Manager and seated with menus immediately and also got their water glasses filled. Ours were filled shortly afterwards. Our order was taken soon but the other couple got dibs. Their food also came first. The manager walked by that table and asked the couple how the food was and had a nice conversation. He walked over to us as well and simply asked food ok? as he was stepping away. Not stopped and looking us in the eye like he did with our fellow patrons. I realized they also didnt check on us enough to notice that my water glass was nearly empty. I had to ask for more water. That to me is one star service. Last straw was when we got the final bill to sign, which the female hostess brought, a pen was forgotten. Again, I had to call them over and ask. By the way, at this point, the white couple were already gone.Sad to be treated in a substandard way by your own people. There were a few moments where I wished I were in an American restaurant nearby where we would be treated more respectfully.
This was my first visit to Saratoga Springs and Im sure it wont be my last. Good food is important but so is great service. Myself and my family really wanted authentic Indian food, we visited few indian restaurants in Capital region and although we were very hungry, the general atmosphere was very unwelcoming. We by chance happened upon Karavalli, as soon as we walked in we were immediately welcomed and seated. The food was very flavorful and affordable. Great service, great food and absolutely tremendous ambience. I definitely wont miss this restaurant in my upcoming trips to Saratoga springs.
Was around the Saratoga area searching for Indian food, thought to give this Karavalli a try, since we loved the Karavalli in Latham. It is not a very big restaurant, it is quite compact, old and tight. When it is full, it makes it pretty much impossible to have a private conversation. This Karavalli in my opinion is not remotely as good as the one in Latham, however, it is still decent among the Indian restaurants in the area. One thing that I didnt like was the balance between some species in certain dishes, which lead to one particular spice being the dominant in the dish.
This is a perfect place to experience authentic Indian food. I visited this place along with my family couple of times since last few years. The staff here are always so very kind to us. We had a signature dish, fish in banana leaf that is coming with garlic bread, vegetable biriyani and some salad. My wife had chicken chettinadu. The owner is always present and making sure everything is perfect. On a rainy day they even offered us an umbrella that is something we could never expect from anywhere else. I wish them all the best and would love to recommend this to anyone.
I was surprised to find an Indian Buffet in the city with such quality food. Karavalli offers quite a few south Indian dishes which were prepared just like I found in India. The buffet items were well flavored and delicious. The staff brought dosa and naan to the table for us without us requesting them, overall this is one of the best Indian restaurants Ive been to in the US.
Chicken Vindaloo is delish, and spicy enough to make you break a sweat! The happy, well-mannered staff are All engaged with ensuring the patrons are well served. Our meal was complimented by a dozen visits from 4 different dudes.Big menu loaded with chicken & lamb & shrimp dishes, lots of rice dishes, and vegetarian options. Interesting appetizers and delectable naans too!Do not hesitate. Enjoy a terrific authentic Indian meal NOW.
The food wasn’t tasty for the price. It’s expensive and they don’t know how to prepare North Indian dishes. It’s just different meat or paneer with the same gravy which is made in Ketchup. Very thin and sweet gravy. This is not authentic Indian cuisine for Indian taste buds. Damm it! Too pricey!
Having visited many Indian restaurants across USA , I am of the firm opinion that most of them serve a cuisine that does not cater to either Indians or Indian food lovers of USA. Over-usage of spices, brick-re colored curry to make it look authentic,cherry-picked menu from the lengths and breadths of the large Indian geography and very less regard for the local sensitivities like spice levels, vegan demands - I can go on.And then, in a small town 180 miles north of New York city, I walk into a rather small restaurant with my kids, and we all come out saying Wah! .Karavalli, located at Saratoga Springs in upstate NY is the best Indian restaurant that I have been to, there is no doubt to it.Except the customary Chicken Tikka Masala, Karavallis cuisine offerings focuses on the southern side of India. India being a vast country, Indian cuisine is a very broad concept to serve to. But they have set their priorities and have paid justice to their decision. The level to detail and personalization is very commendable. Spice and oil levels are maintained to fulfill the local aspirations, and usage of coconut base as an alternative to cream not just add a wonderful flavor to food, it makes vegans happy as well. There is no wonder in the fact that of the 40+ customers that we met while there, hardly 5 were Indians. yes, Karavalli is the right Indian restaurant for non-Indians.! :)Very highly recommended.
If you like indian food, you MUST give Karavalli a try. Their lunch buffet starts at 1130 am and goes to 230 pm. The food is SPECTACULAR!!! Weve gone to several indian restaurants around the capital district and this one tops them all!!! The entire dining experience is 5 star all the way. They treat each guest like family. You never have to ask for anything- drinks, plates, etc as theyre right on it all the time. They have the best chefs we have encountered in ethnic cuisine hands down. They are creative and innovative while keeping true to their culture. The entire restaurant is IMMACULATELY CLEAN!!! Talk about taking pride in your craft. They are the best. Cant say enough about them. Youll have to see for yourself. Bon Appetit!!!
Went out on a dinner date. Was put in the small table in the corner. First impression wasnt a good one. I was sitting 1 inch away from another couple, so it was uncomfortable. The food was good, but a bit over priced. The exact same food is half the price at shalimar in Latham or Clifton park a few minutes away.
After visiting the disgusting taste of India Indian restaurant around lake George area, I decided to have the best Indian food for that day. I found this wonderful South Indian Karavalli cuisine in Saratoga springs on google maps. No matter if I have to drive even 20 miles away, I decided to do it. The first warm Vanakkam touched my heart, my wife and daughters were pleased too. The chef and owner mr. Santosh was warm and welcoming. The staff were courteous and treated us well. The food was awesome, unique flavor and taste. The karavalli special kabab platter was really wonderful. Finally, the smile on my wife and our beautiful daughters made my day and a happy vacation. I highly recommend this place for lake George visitors, not too far.
I expected more from this highly rated restaurant. We went to the one in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.The $10. assorted vegetarian appetizers all tasted the same. The Chicken Tikka Masala is our all time favorite. Not quite as tasty as others we have had. $17 is steep but the portion size was ample.
This place is a rip off . The food is terrible and very less portion . I came to Saratoga for a trip and this was one of the worse Indian food I ever had . Being an Indian born person I know the real taste of Indian food especially South Indian food . Please stay away from here as they charge too much for this below average food .
If youre in the mood for something [super] spicy, definitely try one of the Phaal curries. But be warned... mango lassi pairs well to take some edge off the spiciness. There are also unfortunately some awkward seating arrangements in the overflow room for parties of two. Try to get there early enough to snag a seat in the main room for couples. Three or more should be fine in general. This is also the only Indian place Ive seen in the area that offers Goan-style cuisine, so props to them for that!
Not as good as Maine Indian food but not bad when traveling in upstate NY Greenwich N.Y. near Saratoga Springs and had great water compared at Tour de Battenkill cycling race did the piclo my ex did the medium race which was like a 3 hour race for him to ride about 75 miles ave speed about 26 miles an hour on his niner cyclecross bike... otherwise called a gravel grinder bike by the mechanics
Deceiving restaurant. Paid 75$ for goat biriyani which turned out to be lamb biriyani... Fish on banana leaf which is accompanied by vegetable biriyani, naan and salad but I got a salt less fish with plain white rice with pappad and salad. Tandoori medley was the only good thing. Waste of money. Just cos Im ordering to go doesnt mean I can get food that I didnt order. Everything is dry and two plain white rice? WTH? Way to push unwanted food to a person asking to go. So much for wanting to have real Indian food.

2022-02-06FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! One of the best in the capital region. Took my mother out to lunch for her birthday and it was a wonderful experience. Staff were so friendly and attentive. They gave her a complimentary birthday dessert which was so nice of them. Made her day special. Highly recommended and will be coming back!

2021-12-30Good space, nice service. The menu has everything standard for Indian cuisine. Tandoori chicken was decent, a little dry. Curry was great. The nann bread is the least exciting, not very fresh but was warm.

2022-04-30Get ready for an culinary experience in this exquisite little gem of a restaurant. I ate here 3 times in 3 days while in town for a conference. The menu is very unique and includes vegetarian and vegan options. All the dishes I tried were wonderfully prepared (some delicate, some fiery and some flavor combinations I had never tasted before but all divine)The service is very attentive without being excessive, the portions are generous and the prices moderate.I can’t wait to come back to Saratoga so I can eat here again.

2022-03-20Food was amazing! Great service!! Such a beautiful blend of amazing food options for everybody! I felt so relaxed and the vibe was on point. The smell of the restaurant brought me back to my great grandmothers home whom was the most amazing cook and always had a 4 course meal brewing when we arrived. Thank you for an amazing experience with your dining.

2022-04-22Very good Indian food. Made to order and fresh tasting. Youll wait for it, but its very much worth it.The menu has a scale of how hot each dish is. Various flavors of Nan, including some slightly spicy varieties.

2022-07-05Oh my God, this is one of the worst restaurants I have eaten in NY. What a waste of time for me to travel long distance from Lake George for this pathetic food. How do you call this Indian food? Are you serious? Gravy full of cream and coconut sauce. If you are Americanizing Indian food, don’t call it Indian food because it simply is not. You are cheating your customers who never tasted authentic Indian food. What a shame! Hereafter, I am not going to any restaurants that claim to be Indian while I am on vacation.

2022-06-14This is phenomenal Indian food! The food was fresh, ingredients pure, and the spices were just right. I stopped by here on vacation and it turned out to be the best Indian food I’ve had in in comparison to the NYC area.

2021-05-19Karavalli is an Indian food gem in Saratoga springs. You will find all your normal staples on the menu, but they also have an extensive vegetarian and vegan selection as well! Service is great and they really treat regulars like family. It is in an older smaller building so it did seem a bit hot and stuffy, but they are great with their Covid precautions and I love the place to hang your masks next to the table. Flavor was slightly muted from what we are used to with Indian restaurants at home - mild was really mild here. Parking can be challenging in the area and service is a bit more laid back - don’t expect to speed through your meal. Overall I can’t wait to return the next time I’m in town!

2022-07-11Food was okay and fresh. traditional Keralan way of cooking. Please dont expect some common indian foods with great taste like Naan roti, Paneer Tikka masala or Chicken Curry. Basically its a regional (keralian) South Indian dishes but has its own uniqueness and tastes. urge foodie, food bloggers and lovers to try their sample of Tastes but one thing I def recommend is they have some special deserts like Rasmallai and Beet root Halwa Ice cream. great tastes with great love. I promise people will come out of the restaurent and say this is not waste of money but some news taste and it worth it

2022-06-27YUMMY food! So much flavor. We tried 7 differed dishes and they were all top notch! Nan was also delicious as well as the raita sauce!
