The park was beautiful and well kept. The bathrooms were clean but definitely could use some updating. Campsites were close together. However, we did not have any problems with noisy neighbors. I wasnt crazy that you had to walk through other peoples sites to get to amenities. Most people (including us) were quite understanding about this. The staff was amazing ! The pool was beautiful but did not have any posted set hours. It is definitely better for tent campers than RVs as most spots are hilly and on grass.Overall, I did enjoy my stay and and the people.
Keewaydin is a really nice park. Access is easy, sites are large and most are easy to park in and fairly level. Views of the St Lawrence in many of the sites, with easy access to the river via the in park boat launch. No dumpsite here, so plan accordingly but Grass Point right up the road offers free dumping for Keewaydin campers. A really nice park in the middle of the Thousand Islands Region! We deliver RVs here often and love this park!
Edit: I had my reviews pop up and I kind of have to laugh at this pathetic review for something so important in my life. Keewaydin saw me as a new born infant to this year when I will be 24. When I was younger I would sob when we had to leave. So, let me try and remedy my weak review. Keewaydin is settled about five minutes from Alexandria Bay and around 15 to the Thousand Island bait shop and Clayton. A.B. is your hot spot for Uncle Sam Boat Tours to Singer and Bolts castle as well as learning basic knowledge of the surrounding islands. It has shops and food. Its pretty over priced but if you like it its worth the money. Clayton is kind of more scenic to me, prettier and with a little less of the commercialization. The boarder of USA and Canada isnt far either if that interests you.So, keewaydin. Quickly I wish to mention Keewaydin has !!!!! N O DUMPING AND N O ELECTRIC !!!!! They do have a marina and water! That being said, because you are staying at a state park you can go to Grass Point to dump for free, just flash your white slip like you would coming back into Keewaydin. Also, some of the sites are smaller. I dont think any are TO small, but theyre small for a camper. Ps. One camper and one tent or two tents max per site! Make sure you know what site youre getting! With all that we get to the fun.Ive never had any issues with staff, theyve always been super friendly and patient. There was one guy that asked us to use white bags instead of black ones but I havent had anyone parrot that and he was super apologetic about asking us so Id ask at the gate. Ive had more issues with people that camp there than the staff. You can run into people that never stop running their generators, play loud music, have aggressive dogs. Its a game of chance you can get anywhere you camp. When you pull in to the beginning of the loops, the first camp sites are on your right, then a parking lot for the pool starts. Then you get sites on the left and you can go down and around into the circle or go straight down to a dock all the way down or store your trailer in the parking lot to the left. The pool is Olympic sized, but you can only go in the parts that have a guard, of course. They have a nice bath house there too, toilets and showers. In the middle of the bigger circle is the bathrooms. They have two, single stalled disability bathrooms with showers. Then mens and womens. If I remember right there is two showers to each men and womens and three bathroom stalls in the womens. I know there are bathrooms down at the marina too, but I have no idea how many. You can get sites that have nicer views so you can always walk around and see which sites you like better for next time. Half the fun is trying to find a full week where you can get it haha. Of course you can get right down to the river, so as you can imagine there are bugs especially if the water is high. Make sure to flea treat your animals and have bug spray/nets if youre sensitive to bites. There is a guy that comes on through with wood, The Wood Guy! He and his son are very nice, but their wood is pricey a bit. If you need it it could save you a lot of time though. Police do come through once and a while which is pretty alright. There is a HUGE hill on the top of the big circle. I cant tell you the amount of kids Ive seen wipe out there, please have your kiddos wear helmets for that, at least. Fishing is good off the dock(not marina) but anywhere is good. There is also a nice playground with swings and a large couple of slides and a small rock climbing wall. Pretty fun, coming from a 24yr old. There pretty gazebos around. The fire pits for the sites are nice but I tend to clean mine out with a camp shovel and bag it. I clean the rungs and I also tend to bring a closer runged grate to put over it. Ive lost a hamburger or two lol. There is water and I like it, but mom doesnt, be prepared for that. Skunks can be around but take care of your food and youll be fine. I adore this camp ground. I hope you do too. Mom in picture. :>
Site itself was nice and flat, located right outside the bathrooms so they were close. Unfortunately, taking a star away because as clean as they COULD have been, there was only 2 or 3 days of our stay that staff came and cleaned the bathrooms and showers twice or at all. The sites are right on the water and they have a cute gazebo and path right by the water. Pool is SO nice!
This a terrific park which has a great variety of outdoor views. There are some fantastic hiking trails, along with wide open spaces for picnics and relaxing. The park has some amazing old structures for perfect picture backdrops. The waterfront is natural with small wildlife. The park is monitored by friendly staff and it is kept very clean
Nice campground with a huge pool for campers to use. Boat ramp is large enough to launch large boats and the marina is nicely equipped. We have used the park to dock our boat at when visiting for several years now and never had an issue. Location is great as it’s close to Clayton and A-bay. Just note that the camp sites don’t have power or water.
Went just to bass fish the river. Nice launch but no parking at it, you have to drive all the way back to the opposite side of the park to unhook your trailer, drop it, and drive back down to park at the launch. Nice clean park though, public toilets right at the launch, easy access to some very good fishing and very cheap price for access.
We visited the park on Saturday afternoon, it was very hot day and there were not many people. The place has its own personality and a history. We took 0.43 miles trail in woods and enjoyed pines fragrance, birds singing and the close islands view on the river. Surprisingly, there was not mosquitos. The park has volleyball and basketball courts, safe fenced outdoor swimming pool with slide and picnic tables around. There are two accessible restrooms with showers. It was clean and well maintained. The entrance fee was $7. Park is opened till 9 pm. #accessible #nyparks #1000islands
I really want to say its horrible to help with being able to reserve the better spots. But its an amazing place right on the river. The staff I talked to was fantastic. I always rented a hotel in Abay for the same price I got three nights at the campground. Its helps that I am a new camper owner... But I was very pleased with the campground!
Great place to visit the pool was great and you are able to camp overnight here. Be careful about what site you choose if rain is in the forecast because it could flood and there is a curfew at 10 pm so families can go to sleep but its not enforced unless your neighbors complain. Its great for children & theres a playground also.
Just spent a week here as I have always loved Keewaydin. Sites are beautiful, scenery is second to none. It was a site to see with the water levels being so high, quite sad for the homeowners and boat owners though. Weather was perfect. I was however displeased with the lack of bathroom cleanliness as they only seemed to do one cleaning a day in the morning. I also felt this park was almost lawless as many people had fireworks and were very loud and disrespectful after hours. I enjoy having a good time but being very loud, singing, clapping, and swearing from 1am-on is ridiculous. Had park security come around during earlier hours only aside of one time park personnel came around about 10pm and WE get spoken to for running a whisper quiet generator trying to save a refrigerator full of food due to a faulty battery! Apparently if you come and camp in a Prevost bus you get preferrential treatment and can make as much noise, set off fireworks AND run your generator anytime you want! Sucks because everything else was great..
Park is clean but not all of the sites are very good. Uneven ground is not good for tent sites, and means flooding if it rains. There is a pool and a playground at the site, and a lot of the neighbors had young children in their tents. We were literally not allowed to laugh and had to speak at a whisper or the neighbors would come over and complain. Ive never been to a campground where total silence was required at 10pm sharp. The main bathrooms were closed for over an hour at 7am 2 days in a row for cleaning, just when everyone in the park was waking up and needing to use the facilities. We probably will not return.
The only time I visit the park is to launch my boat. It seems like a typical NYS park with the same amenities. The boat launch is not the best. Really only one usable side to launch. And then you need to pull your trailer to what I call the trailer graveyard, which feels to be at the other side of the park. I see some people disconnect from the trailer and drive back to the docking area to park. But I usually leave it attached and walk back. The problem being that at night when I am ready to get the boat out, I am walking in the dark to find the trailer graveyard. No street lights on the roads so bring a flashlight! While all this is happening, others are waiting for you to remove your boat from the launch area. So as you can now imagine, this area gets backed up.
Nice state park, friendly staff, good location whole stay was ruined by being forced to camp right next to a huge RV vehicle with its generator running during approved park times.. 5-9pm. Then the people drove it out of the park came back somewhere near 11pm and took about a half hour trying to back it back into the camp site without crushing other tents and us... listening to an elderly woman say go this way and that... we had to book two nights when booking but fled with a headache the next day... this tent sites should not be anywhere near the RV vehicles... I guess if your idea of camping is traveling in one of these mobile hotels then your ok but if your planning on pitching a tent look else where!
Well kept campsites, Olympic pool, well run marina, beautiful views of the St Lawrence Seaway, not so big that seems overcrowded when full, clean facilities, easy efficient check in, you name it, a great place to camp and have convenient access to events and other things nearby.
Small, but beautiful NYS Park. Probably one of the smaller campgrounds that Ive stayed at, and theres only a handful with a view of the American Narrows. Theres access to the waters edge that spans the total duration of the park, making ship watching easy (if youre into that). Theres also a marina, and its a short drive to either downtown A-Bay or Clayton.
Had a MWR boat docked at one of the docks, and had my husband get the trailer for it. I was pregnant at the time. 30 weeks, so I waited. A bigger boat comes by, and tells me I must move my boat. This was at night time. I was pregnant, and alone. I told the lady my husband is coming right back. She told me, “Move now!”Just utterly disrespectful towards 1) an active duty army soldier, and 2) a female that is 30 weeks pregnant. You will bump into too many entitled yuppies up there that are just absolute distasteful.
As a boater, I havent found a better, more central camping spot than this. We love the short trip to the bays behind Boldt Castle and the Lake of the Isles for skiing/wakeboarding/tubing and the mile trip to A Bay. Clayton and Wellesley Island are a little longer of a boat trip but still not bad, especially considering we only head that way a day or two at most (usually we do them both in the same day and also hit up Picton and/or Potters beaches). Great marina, clean bathrooms and showers, excellent pool, great riverfront campsites, little hiking trails, and good fishing spots. A short, 1.5-mile drive by car/bike to A Bay.

2021-07-29This state park offers wonderful trails and is home to numerous fisher cats. It has plenty of wildlife like loons ospreys and bald eagles. The trails run right along the river and offer a private dock for fishing and swimming a hidden bench for relaxing during a sunset and a peaceful gazebo that sits on a stone wall from 75 years ago. This park has great camping facilities and a huge swimming pool and playground the boat launch is big and easily accessible as well!

2021-07-23Spent a lovely afternoon at the Keewadin State park pool! Great value for a fun time splashing and sliding at the pool. Very well kept and the staff/ lifeguards were friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit when in the Alex Bay area!!

2022-07-03This park offers no utilities (ie water, sewer, electricity). You would think because of that it would be quiet. Its not. They allow generators👎The staff drive gas golf carts seemingly doing nothing but driving around. They certainly are not cleaning the campsites. Ours was covered in bottle caps, plastic straws, drinking boxes, etc. They offered no site map when we entered. The water fillup tap is unmarked and we had to ask a number if people just to find it. The location of this tap is in a stupid location which makes you partially block an intersection. One positive is its close to downtown Alex Bay.

2022-06-24Really enjoyed our stay. The bathrooms were very clean. My only recommendation would be to cut some of the brush away from the water to create some better views.

2020-07-03Great little park right in the heart of Alex Bay! The staff was super friendly and accommodating! We made reservations about 6 months in advance for the best spot there...Due to COVID-19, we were the only ones there for the first night! When we rolled up to our spot, it was being occupied by the BIGGEST snapping turtle weve ever seen! (Even he knew it was the best spot!) 🤣 A quick call to the office staff and a nice man came and relocated the big guy to a better spot. Had a great, relaxing weekend and we already made reservations for next year!

2022-06-02Most of my childhood memories are at this park and it hasnt changed much. The pool, the secret trails, the hidden gazebos. I love this park.
