Key Food Supermarkets in other cities:
This place is the best! Its about 1/2 the price of the Gristedes which is only a block away. Seriously, $6 for 3 boxes of cereal here, vs $7 for a single box at Gristedes. I could go on and on with price comparisons like that.It doesnt have *everything* -- but the selection is solid and the staff is friendly.
Some items are less expensive and clearly some items are more. There are many items without prices, so you cant tell which is which. They have the cheapest crappiest bags on the upper west side. Ive seen many older people leave the store only to have the bags break in the street. I myself have asked them to double bag some heavy items and theyve said no.
I ONLY GO TO THIS STORE ONCE IN A WHILE BECAUSE ITS OPEN 24 HOURS AND THEY SELL CERTAIN ITEMS...OVERALL, TOO PRICEY, THEY ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO BRING THEIR DOGS INTO THE STORE AND THEY DONT ENFORCE WEARING MASKS...TO BE HONEST THE BEST STORE RIGHT NOW IS TRADERS JOE...Sir, If you are the owner of this franchise shouldnt you take a look into the allegations that I have brought up????
The heavy set man who stands out front is not nice at all. I had a scooter so I couldnt go deep into the store. I asked for help if someone could get my item while I wait in the front to pay. This man was unprofessional shouting and got very nasty refusing to accommodate me then told me to leave the store. No one else was willing to me help either, just a terrible way of running a store. I will never come back to this store ever again, this was a terrible experience.
One of the worst grocery stores for customer service, ever, but the cashiers are great! Don’t expect to get any help in any aisle though. But if you do find yourself lucky enough to find someone to help they are not interested at all in helping you. You will frequently hear their employees say “whatever we have on the selves” as their employees walk the other away as if you are bothering them. Definitely one of the worst grocery stores in the city.
Great grocery store. Ive become friendly with some of the cashiers and the workers in the aisle are always happy to help if you struggle with reaching something on a high shelf. The biggest problem in the store though is definitely how small the aisles are. There is always some sort of human traffic while shopping and it sometimes gets annoying! Good prices though.
There is never a good time to shop at Keyfood, so go whenever you need to and get ready for the maze of boxes, carts, consumers and chairs for the elderly. The aisles are small, the carts are also small, its not elderly chair or kid friendly. Stock is replenished at peak hours and the staff looks so depressed and intimidated, they have an almost Get Out look. But, what to do? Work with what we have and be grateful.
Meats are constantly rotten, freezer are turned off at night meat gets defrost then in the morning they turn them on so their is when the meat gets back frozen just the one at the back of the freezer. So when you cook the meet it already spoild so you have to through it away. Fruits are not so good because they buy to much at a cheaper price & stock them in the basement & sell them expensive price to customers.
Usually a wait in line. Prices are a lot higher than the Key Foods in Harlem. I bought a fresh pie and it had some mold on the bottom. The people at the registers input the wrong prices and I have to correct them. 2 stars only because the stock guys helped me get an item that was out of stock.
I love Key Foods. I will walk past a Gristedes or a D’Agostinos to shop here. Why? The meat prices, for what you get, is the best value in New York. Porterhouse steaks on sale for $6.99 at least twice a month. There is always a great sale on pork chops or chicken. The guys in the deli are so nice, do yourself a favor and get the antipasto salad. They always have great specials on deli meat too. Their produce is always fresh and priced lower than Whole Foods or Gristedes.
I keep finding myself going back to shop here because there arent many supermarkets left in the area, but the customer service here is disgusting. The cashiers rush you and throw your groceries around, the people on the floor are more worried about putting groceries on the shelf then helping. They push you out of the way while you are shopping to restock....its horrible. Get new staff...
If i had another local supermarket that carried everything i wanted n stayed open @this time 10pm i would never shop there. The cashiers dead ruin it for me everything b good till i have to cash out. Idk who manages them but they need to clean house n start over i really dont care about how many years theyve been there. Obviously their too comfortable w/ w/e job security they have or think they have. Alll your cashiers are rude n have no efficiency if i continue to go there and theirs no change im going to act real ignorant KEY FOOD until u do something about the ppl you have working there. Thank you for nothing.
Great market! There is a hot bar where you can grab lunch or dinner to go if youre in a rush. The fruit and veggie section is incredibly fresh and always stocked so you will be sure to find any product youre looking for.I love the variety in dates and seeds and also chocolates that you can find here. They have a bakery and a deli section as well so you can get fresh bread and meat cuts. Most of the time the ads running in Russian make my head spin because my brain tries to translate it but hey its a Russian market!Be sure to grab one of their desserts for a special occasion as they are rich, creamy and sweet. The cashiers are fast and polite youll be out in no time.
This place apply their own pricing , they still have the same management, also they make fewer discounts than before, whole foods is a block away and trust me their prices are much better, big 100%orange juice 2for6 at wholefoods, 5.50 at keyfood, if you can make it to traders Joes on 93rd and colombus you wont regret it and also they accept EBTs. Keyfood is just trying to bring the middle and the poor classes in the neighborhood because of their little knowledge, its just like Walgreens .oh I forgot do not buy the fresh meat or the fish , they are very dirty , you can peek at the door next to the onions, believe me , also their packages says Perdue chicken but its not actually packaged by Perdue, they have a band with Perdue stickers and they add their own , they make so much money on super low quality products that shouldnt be priced that way , what a shame for the neighborhood....

2021-12-21It is convenient to have Key Food in our neighborhood. I was able to find some vegetables that the kids like in this store. I plan to shop more often there to discover what more they are offering.I gave this five stars based on how convenient it is to me. I don’t mind crowned store or certain selections as long as I can have fresh produces and milk within minutes from my home door to door. I know how to pick fresh meat, so I will buy or not buy based on my judgement of the meat. However, I usually shop for fresh vegetables because we prefer a plant-based diet (and I don’t want to drag sweet potatoes for blocks away from home, nor do I like to send my sweet athlete husband to drag those potatoes).I found the staff very friendly, which is always nice.

2022-04-10Narrow aisles and very full shelves but that is typical of most supermarkets in NYC. Prices here are great and even better when items are on sale. Staff is super friendly and helpful.

2022-01-09This supermarket might not be the fanciest store but has everything I need from fresh produce to my favorite oat milk. Also, the price is the most reasonable among others in the neighborhood. For example, I can get $3 red wine vinegar from this store, which can be $12 from Zabar. And the staffs are genuinely helpful and nice.

2017-03-11This was hands down my worst grocery shopping experience in the city. The aisles are hardly wide enough to fit the grocery carts they provide. And at 6pm on a Friday, the store was cluttered with crates of supplies to restock the shelves... Most stores decide to do this late at night, but I guess rush hour works just as well?

2022-01-14This keyfood supermarket, on Amsterdam Ave. at 86th St. has many great weekly specials. However, it is quite smaller than the other supermarkets that I have shopped at. Hardly room for shoppers to maneuver around with the shopping carts. Manager is pleasant, as is some workers who stock the shelves. Cashiers can be trained to smile a bit more. Kept clean, although when merchandise needs to be stocked it can become somewhat challenging for shoppers. I would recommend this Keyfood supermarket to locals, remembering that it can get crowded with just 10-15 shoppers as its quite small.

2021-08-28Terrible, terrible, terrible experience! Looks like we have new management at this local supermarket, Asian family. I live in the area and I shop in here a lot. Today I found an item on sale, price ringed higher at the register. The helpful and well mannered woman at the register tried to help and called the manager for price adjustment.. in the meantime I paid for all the ingredients and other stuff, just needed ( and I mean really needed) the item on sale... I must add that the item was exactly the one on the sale advertising. The manager then came and instead of helping, he told me he was not adjusting the price, he took the item back to the shelves, repeatedly told me in a very un friendly manner, no more, thats all, its all for today, come back tomorrow..no, no, no, raincheck he also ripped off the offer sign from the shelves, in front of me, supermarket employees said he was the evening manager. My reviews are very fair and honest. Hopefully this new management change the way they treat customers, specially around this area where customer service is a top priority for most business and even more for loyal clients. I did feel mistreated, disappointed, I ended up paying for all ingredients for a particular recipe but the most important one. The meat! (Fish).

2021-12-22Prices are reasonable but I really cant stand that you have to buy two items to get a lot of the deals. Im only one person with limited storage and cant go through food like that before it goes bad.
