Key Food Supermarkets in other cities:
Big supermarket, bigger than usual Key Food. This one is much brighter, cleaner, with wider aisles, huge selection of everything, great pineapple, a bit tired staff (I visited right before closure) and good prices for many basic foods and produce. Loved the discount price of cottage cheese 😍
Cluttered, hard to find things. Hours have always been lousy, and even after Gristedes closed, leaving Key Food with a bit of a monopoly, they didnt change them. Many things are not priced, which often leads to changing my mind at the cash register. I believe theres a Bodega cat here, as Im very sensitive to cat odor. But not certain.
SPOILED DELI MEATS AND PRODUCE ISN’T FRESH!Raw meats seem to be repackaged, as well.BEWARE!!!! Also, there are cats walking all over the raw meats and produce section. I love animals, but not walking on my food.Manager is dismissive and rude.Take your business elsewhere. If I could give zero stars, I would.
The prices are better than Gristedes and they have a good selection of staple foods. Sometimes the produce isnt ripe or is overly ripe. Theres nothing here that Im excited about buying. Usually, its a quick run to get something that theyll probably have which will be just fine and the price will usually be fine too - though the prices chance a lot.
This Keyfood is a deplorable place to shop. Don’t buy food from here. Don’t go here, especially if you are a white woman. It isn’t safe. I was stalked around the store by a creepy guy who manages the carts. The produce is often spoiled. The boxed food is often expired (whole shelves). The deals are not worth it. Go somewhere else. Don’t shop here.
This store doesnt put correct prices on goods and overcharges. I caught them doing this various times .Cashiers are friendly but managers and some workers treat me as if they think you come to steal. I am African American, and deal with this not only here but other stores although I am a very honest and righteous man.The consequences of being black, tall and African American in America when even Latino makes me feel disrespected
Pretty decent size and selection, price is reasonable and downright cheap for nyc. When purchasing berries in the stacked cardboard boxes, check carefully for fungus. The best time to shop is wednesday or sunday, which is when the food has just come in and is freshest
This is my local supermarket. They are Extremely helpful and always respectful! If by chance they do not stock what you need just ask for the manager and your items will be ordered. They also do deliveries for large monthly stockups as well. Not that I need to add nor a requirement but please tip your checkout and delivery. They work hard!!!
I visited for something things; fruits and snacks. I didnt find what I wanted, I walked to the snacks I didnt see what I really expected. What I did see there was a sale sticker and didnt realize I was charged the original price til I made it home. I did call inquiring about the difference.
I have come here on several occasions only as a last option grocery stop. Only a select few of the cashiers say a word to you. The store smells funny by the meat section. Their bottle returns are almost always full and they wont accept the returns in store if they are full (nor do they go and empty the bin). They also dont bother to honor posted prices.I would love to support a local store but this place makes me say no. I will now completely take my business elsewhere, even in case of emergency.
Best grocery store in Washington Heights. Not over-priced like a certain store only a few blocks away. Not limited in size and selection like a few other nearby stores. Produce is affordable. Great variety of teas, condiments, and sauces. I love their selection of beers.
Most employees rude. Manager useless stands in one place like a statue and does nothing. Aisles impossible to navigate as move oblivious employees have no regard for shoppers. Also employees on phone and listening to music on the work floor! IMO high meat prices for the quality. Decent produce selection and decent deli guys if you can catch them behind the actual deli
I have to say that I dont typically write reviews of grocery stores but I was really impressed with the Key Foods on St. Nicholas in Washington Heights. I normally go food shopping at the Bravo on 181st and Broadway but I honestly HATE shopping at that Bravo (for multiple reasons that I wont get into on this review). When I walked into the Key Foods, the first thing I noticed was that it looked and smelled clean! I felt like the workers took pride in how the environment came across and the shelves were all filled and the veggies and fruits looked beautiful! The other thing, besides the cleanliness, that I appreciated was the prices of the food! I noticed that items that normally cost me $5 at the Bravo, cost less than $4 and in some instances $3. Im not sure why the prices were so much cheaper than my normal supermarket but I will definitely walk the extra 10 blocks from now on when I go shopping as it saved me over $25.Pros: CLEAN, good veggie and fruit selection, GREAT meat selection, fast cash registers, CLEAN AND TIDY!!Cons: Crowded (but I went on a Sunday afternoon, which Im sure was reflected in the amount of people at the store).
Ill give 3 start because I like the place, close to my house.... I would give 0 start to the manager supervisor of the cashier...that guy is RUDE, not professional and obviously he doesnt have any idea of what to be a LEADER means! He is RUDE with the cashier he doesnt even care there are customer there to start treat them like s*. Boy respect these ppl cause you and this place are nothing without cashier and the rest of the workers!!! LEARN TO BE A LEADER not A MANAGER! Is a shame that Everytime I go there this guy always standing there and been rude with the cashier even if they ask him a question NOT PROFESSIONAL! He replied rude to a customer that was trying to pay some items and he just asked if they were on sale and he was so rude that the customer didnt want to buy it. That position demand an educated and professional person.! I just hope the owner can read this review.
Crowded from the moment you walk in, both with groceries and people. Some of the produce seem to have been there a while. They have lots of freezers for meat. They also always have my favorite juice so thats one reason Ill come back. Also, they have a better ice cream selection than Gristedes. Apple pay and Android pay are accepted here. Some items are in stranger locations: the vanilla extract is right by the registers instead of where baking things are.
I used to shopping key food supermarket but I had to experience the key food supermarket in my neighborhood in Washington heights and the cold cut counter its fantastic but the store its so so the cold cut counter staff is knowledgeable and friendly and their chicken is great I love it and their meats are okay they make great sandwiches they give you a free soda with it and theyre happy to help you however the store such as the management does not help you rude and disrespectful nasty and unprofessional 100% and belittles you they were making remarks they dont take gift cards they only post a tiny sign out of sight not in Plainview and they give you an argument about the situation if you have a gift card and they are not friendly when it comes to deliveries the delivery people try their best but most of the time they dont care which way or the other because they have to listen to the management I recommend if you go to key food supermarket in Washington heights to use your food stamps all credit cards or cash if you try to use a gift card or something they make a big deal of it and they make a mockery out of it and belittles you disrespect you a front of the staff and the people at shop there the protos people are friendly and helpful the stock boys all helpful the people who are charged put in charge for the isles in the store are very helpful the recycling area people to help you with your recyclables are helpful the person that has a flower and plant stand shop is sweet and nice however the only problem remains is the management and the people who run the store with the cashiers and should be looked into sincerely yours truly Charles storms Jr
This is a very bad place to shop for fresh products. I accidentally bought expired salands and products so many times. It seems like people who work there dont care about health of their consumers. On September 22, 2017 I bought salsa that was expired in April!! Just one word, avoid! Shop in different places, there are plenty of supermarkets in Washington heights.
A little messy by the cashier section (but thats not Key Foods fault I think) but its fine overall. I always get the pistachios I want. It is pricier than lets say Bravo, but it does have a variety of items other supermarkets dont have, so Im sure its to keep up the establishment.
Someone stole my rolling grocery bag. Also, there is a cat wandering around loose in the store, especially around the raw meat area (no surprise there). The manager said the cat is supposed to stay in the basement, but he didnt seem to care that it had left the basement. No one seemed to care, which I thought was odd.
This store had following serious concerns:1) Price labels are wrong. They charge higher then the labelled prices at the counter. And if you dont pay attention, you may be paying $10 for something that costs $3.2) Hygiene. I saw an employee cleaning the floors and eating grapes out of the bags at fruits section.3) Rude. When I was charged higher price at the counter, I mentioned the promotional price. The lady at the counter went back to check. Then spoke with the manager. Then spoke to another lady. Then another guy checked. It took about 10-15 minutes. They all were very unhappy that I questioned the price. And, there were no apologies (a few words of acknowledgement can help). In conclusion, the store is inappropriately priced, not managed well, and is perhaps owned by a bad management.
The selection of food and store design is good but I cant stand any establishment where I am being checked out from across the place by another man multiple times as Im trying to shop. Those few guys standing around whos job it is to watch the customers who are most likely placing an emphasis on grilling young black males of the neighborhood such as myself needs to stop. Ill be going to Gristedes instead on 170th & BWay if I need a high-end supermarket in the neighborhood where Im not being watched.
Pros:- Lower Prices than other places- Convenient locationCons:- Expired or mis-handled items (Ice Cream defrosted and re-frozen, Cereal Boxes damaged, Dated products)- Not the most friendly place (mainly teenagers who seem more interested in talking to each other than assisting clients)- Not very neat and clean (They havent stepped UP with the neighborhood)

2022-06-03This store is by far the worst yet. The meat is smelly and the prices are way too high. I went to purchase some detergent that was on sale 2 bottles for 5.00 but I only needed 1 bottle and the cashier was going to charge me 3.49. I told her to keep it because that was not fair. Stop and Shop will give you the item for the correct price if you dont need or want the extra item included in the sale. Never again will I go in that nasty store. Dont patronize them if you can help it.

2022-06-26Food ( especially fruit) seems to be constantly old/molding here. Also the prices are completely wild. One squeeze-pack of mushed fruit (think: baby food) was $5.... for ONE. Cereal was over $8.

2022-03-08Its gr8 2 have a supermarket or a grocery store in the neighborhood that offers their respect, thoughtfulness, n caring during my shopping time or at the checkouts registers. The importance of this is extremely important to know. It has been a gr8 8 years being a customer to keyfood, n always getting the same respect as if I was a new customer by the day.
