Choosing a vet is a very important. Not every veterinarian has an animals best interest at heart . I have been a client at Killewald for approximately 6 years. We had been to 2 previous vets. In both of the previous offices the support staff was not as helpful and caring as needed. I have found that Killewald has a wonderful staff from the vets to the techs. Everyone is pleasant and knowledgeable. Dr. Decker and Dr. Caruana are awesome. When we started there, my dog weighed 102 lbs. Dr. Decker helped us get his weight to a healthy 70 lbs. He has maintained that weight for 2 years. I am forever grateful to her. The weight loss has likely added many years to his life. My dog runs to the door when he hears that we are going to see her ! I wouldnt trust anyone else with my dogs health.
Ive been going to Killewald for awhile now and wouldnt go anywhere else!! My German Shepherd is not a fan of the vet and the staff at Killewald do everything in their power to make him feel comfortable and make his experience there quick and easy. They truly care about our fur babies and offer the best suggestions! A few months ago, we had to make an emergency appointment and they did whatever they could to see us right away! The staff is very friendly and supportive and Im happy to see a familiar face (Brooke) back behind the counter!!
Killewald Small Animal Hospital is by far the best vet hospital Ive ever been too. Ive been to others in the area and all I can say is Killewald is the BEST! Dr. Decker and Dr. Caruana are so caring and knowledgeable when it comes to our pets! Plus they always know what to say or do to calm us down and our pets! It feels like a second home when we walk in and the whole staff goes above and beyond for us! From the greeting we get when we walk in, to the vet tech always friendly and kind, to the amazing Veterinarians, the whole visit is always enjoyable even if it started with an emergency trip! Thank you to all of the staff for keeping our pets safe and our minds at ease! You all rock!!
I went through the friends of animals program because I couldn’t afford a 400 neuter. When I called they told me i would only have to pay for an exam and the meds on top of the certificate. I get there for the “check up” even though he had been to our vet less than 2 months ago and they hit me up for 80 dollar blood work. Then they call me about the blood work saying my cats white blood cells were high but that usually happens with anxiety and coming into the office. She then proceeds to push this agenda saying that he probably should be tested for FIV and other things. I explained he had already been tested and it was negative. She continued to push to get money out of me. When I declined the bloodwork she straight up said well this may lead to complications in surgery and cause death....he’s a healthy kitten and we’ve never had any problems. Our regular vet is not concerned in the least. They just didn’t like that I wasnt paying the full price for the surgery so they tried to use fear tactics to get more money. Then the day of the surgery I’m asked about a million more questions about adding on special things to the surgery. All they want is money they don’t care about the animals or the caregivers. They had me freaking out about the surgery and he did just fine. DO NOT GO HERE IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY.
I live in Lewiston and purchased a low cost spay certificate from friends of animals about a year ago, back then, they had a couple of totally amazing girls at the front desk that were super knowledgeable and caring. Dont get me wrong the girls they have now are pleasant enough, but not the same. I received a phone call that my dog was due for an annual check up but her shots were not due until October.I was given the choice of doing both at the same time, or having the annual exam sooner. I asked if there was a price difference, and was told that the price would be the same regardless. $58.00 for the exam and whatever the shots would cost. I decided to do the annual exam sooner. I assumed for $58.00 I would get a thorough exam. My dog obviously has bad memories of the hospital because of her operation, and she was cowering and petrified and needed to be dragged in on a slip collar. The vet came in and we had a conversation about her weight, she had a quick check of her heart with her stethoscope, felt her body and I was charged $58.00. I was aggravated, but did not show it to the vet who in all honesty was nice to me. I asked if they could check her for ticks, and the vet said she would need to do this with an assistant in a separate room. I was told to wait in the waiting room, whilst I was waiting,( Which was about 2 minutes) I asked the receptionist if the vet would be coming back to talk with me as I had a couple more questions her response was, write them down on a piece of paper!! I was a little surprised by this and said Is the vet not coming back out ? The vet suddenly appeared but seemed rushed. I am not sure why I paid $58.00 I had decided to stay with this hospital and make the drive from Lewiston even though I would be driving past multiple vets on the way. I have now changed my mind. I feel like I was totally ripped off. Update..I spoke to the manager Stephanie who said she would speak to the vet and get back to me, the very next day she called and said she had spoken to the vet, and receptionist and was told they spent over 30 minutes with me..I checked in at 5 and checked out at 550.. what no waiting time?? Stephanie offered a free exam for the next visit which I declined..Word of warning do not go when they are about to close.
Excellent. Dr. Shanna Decker is the best. She took care of Brigids teeth and gum problems. (Brigid is our adopted dog, a rescue from a terrible amish puppy mill in Ohio.Dr. Deckers team is also great. Dr. Decker is professional, up and well read on new and tried and true clinical interventions; she is also very personable and pleasant and available for question. She and Dr. Bill took care of our Shamrock for 16 + years and now Brigid.Sara and I are very pleased and so happy Dr. Decker is our Vet.Brigid agrees with all I have said on her behalf.Be safe and healthy! Mary Kienzle and Sara MurphyPS Five stars for certain!!
Weve visited the small animal hospital several times with our Yellow Lab (Moon) and the staff has treated us with care and courtesy. We felt that the Doctor gave us sufficient time in the appointments to treat any issues involved and to get a general picture of Moons health, which is excellent. Questions regarding his meds were answered thoroughly and promptly, and we left with confidence in his treatment. The reception staff has also greeted us warmly and well.
The have always taken great care of my 3 cats and my boxer/pit mix. Always a plus finding a place bully breed friendly!! The receptionists are always very welcoming and the vets are great! On a side note, on a good day you can see squirrels playing outside in a tree through one of their windows!***********************7/16/19So glad with the new changes at Killewald. Went there this week and was ecstatic to see that Killewald cares about their clients. They have had a few personnel changes in past few months and a few of them seemed very impersonable and like they would rather be somewhere else and came across as rude. Seems like they cut dead weight and are back on track! So excited seeing Brooke back at the front counter. Its like a breath of fresh air!!
Dr. Killewald sold this place years ago to a corporation which is now “Vetcore” Killewald Animal Hospital so that means these places are ripping the customers off I mean $35 for vaccines are insane you go to a independent Veterinary Hospital Vaccines are $12-$15. It’s sad because clients don’t know and all they can say is why is everything so expensive... I wouldn’t recommend this place just based on that. Not only that they send you out to specialists and do not even have proper equipment to do the simplest stuff this place is only good for spay neuter and dentals ... go to a real vet hospital that won’t rip you off and can do in house lab testing also they charge almost $60 for a fecal float! That’s insane !!! Other vet hospitals do it for $25 please shop around and do not use corporation vet hospitals.
When we got the first of our 2 Miniature Schnauzers 7 years ago we spoke with quite a few vets in the area before deciding that Killewald was by far the best of the bunch. We chose wisely and wouldnt think of taking them anywhere else. Dr. Decker is the best. Shes caring, knowledgeable and down to earth.
Love this practice. I would travel far and wide to see Dr. Decker! The techs are all very professional and kind. My dog has been antsy and squirmy at a previous vet practice. At Killewald, he is calmer and my partner and I completely trust the techs and Dr. Decker to work with him. My cat is traditionally shy and spends her time hiding. At Killeward, she lets people pet her. Dr. Decker takes her time and explains everything in detail. The people she works with make sure we have everything we need. I highly recommend Killewald.
First, I will say that the vets office can be a very scary place for a dog. The level of compassion and understanding displayed at this office is non existent and down right disgusting. I have a very reactive German Shepherd that was scheduled for pre operative bloodwork and an initial examination. I informed the staff that my dog should be muzzled as a precautionary measure and I was given one and provided with no instruction. I was then asked to restrain my dog (also with no instruction)while blood was drawn. The tech was prodding my dog with the needle, missing the vein continuously, all while struggling. Again, my dog is terrified at this point. We agreed that bloodwork would be done while my dog was sedated during surgery. I come back a week later and again am tasked with muzzling and restraining my dog, again with no instruction or help. She bit no one, nor did she come close to doing so. She reacted completely out of fear. Upon retrieval of my dog, I apologized in excess for my dog being tough to deal with and tried to put together a plan for future visits. I informed the staff that I had purchased a muzzle that will not come off, and agreed to the recommendation of a sedative prior to coming to the office. I was then greeted by the office manager who informed me that my dog would not be welcomed back for future visits. Again, no one was bit, not even close. Barking and snapping was the extent of it.It seems as you have to be well versed in restraint or have a perfectly calm dog in order to be a client here. “Dr.” Decker seems to have had a bit of an issue with me telling her that she should really instruct and help clients put their dogs at ease, rather than expecting someone who has no training to know how to do as such. I did not have unrealistic expectations for them to think that my dog was a treat, but a little understanding would have went a long way. Unless your situation and animal is ideal for them to treat, stay away from them.
My pets have been patients at Killewalds since they were babies. The staff is very friendly, helpful and LOVE LOVE LOVE animals. They are very accommodating, even when mommy messes up and arrives too early for an appointment. Oops. Strangely for pets, when I mention its time to go see the vet, they get excited for the trip. I highly recommend them for your vet care needs.xoxoxox Amber and Clarice
They were too busy wanting to up charge me for things they didn’t know was wrong and failed to treat my dog for what was wrong. When I called to question why they didn’t provide treatment for what they knew to be wrong the Dr was extremely rude and condescending. My dogs will never go back here.
Wonderful, caring staff. brought my pit mix in and there was no fear of his breed in the air which is very important to me to be comfortable. dog was on his deathbed at 2 but they were able to send me to orchard park vet for the help I needed was told he needed surgery on his stomach due to blockage so I payed the $82 to send the results to a specialist there. upon further review, the specialist claimed he had a tear in his throat. $2000 later and 3 tests proved no tear. which I was questioning from the first place. but they did surgery and hospitalization for $5,000 roughly with care. would have been 3k if killewald did it which I was confident in them doing so. but all in all. great experience and will gladly return!!!
It really pains me to have to leave such a poor review. Killewald has helped us greatly in the past but our most recent visit was not the same caring service we experienced in the past. Our dog Lucy suffered a knock to the left temple causing a rather large hematoma which continued to fill with blood and needed to be drained. They seemed skeptical and required further testing and sent us away with only pain suppressants and anti inflammatory medication costing us over $400.00 and no relief or resolve. After several days we received a call regarding the results of Lucys lump which tested negative for infection but inconclusive for cancers. After speaking with the vet tech over the phone no proactive option was offered only more testing. It wasnt until i initiated the conversation about surgery and draining the hematoma that we found out Killewald does not have a surgeon or can preform surgery. If we wanted the hematoma drained and Lucys health restored, we would need to visit a different vet.If we had be notified of this during our initial visit a week earlier we could have acted sooner and not have wasted the $400 seeing how the hematoma needed draining, antibiotics would have been given regardless after the surgery and there was no need for a test for infection. After visiting another vet during our first visit, Lucys lump was examined to be a hematoma, surgery was preformed and a drained installed. Lucy is now on the mend.
My husband and I recently rescued a dog and made an appointment for our first visit at Killewald. He left work early and I brought a stool sample for our appointment and, upon arriving, we were told that we were not on the appointment schedule and worse - we werent even in their system. We were told that the vet was too busy to see us that day and we were rescheduled for a week later. We are very disappointed and have cancelled this appointment to bring our dog elsewhere.
I find it funny that you took down my review about how you collapsed my dogs trachea. And were I then went on to explain during my first experience here at kill-them-all animal hospital of your staff harping on an elderly woman for thousands of dollars while her dog was bleeding out on the floor and you did nothing. Thousands of stolen dollars. You cannot claim you are here to serve animals. You are not entitled to the immediate plaque of “good virtue” and people should not make that assumption to every veterinarian. The mere implementation that veterinarians cannot be found criminal or evil because of their occupation is incompetent and I would expect none other from the general public as they would mindlessly follow you any how. Because who would have guessed the animal abusers would be the people entrusted to our family, Just under our noses. You are criminals and are price gauging at the expense of animal lives. And you are trying to cover your tracks because if people knew the reality of the situation there would be outrage. You took down others reviews where so there were multiple allegations against you that clients had witnessed these “professionals” in the back slacking off not doing there job. And I apprehend so unapologetically, this is a serious matter and I feel as though I need to reinstate that, not only do the people fund their medical attention quadruple what is expected (doing so happily) but you don’t provide the service even after all dues payed. Many of which pet owners conclude that this specific animal hospital were overcharging them to the point were so they had to leave. And once they had found other vets had the same medication for way less. Which is a problem, healthcare is a problem for both the domesticated pet and to its owner now. I do realize that the people employed here have not spent a day unprivileged, a day were they wouldn’t have to choose between their animals life and their mortgage or rent money, or even the people not having deep pockets to begin with, to put it in a simplicity you would basically have to let your animal die or suffer on the account of no choice, and this is in general terms, I’m not talking about an old dog, I’m talking about animals who get injured or sick because they are living beings and yet cannot have immediate medical attention because they apparently have no right to it, and yes this demonstrates to me that you do not believe in the well being of animals. But if the American people are willing to pay, even for something as vital as ones health, A persons capital is still largely at stake (and to be quite frank, this is not a wealthy county). And you stake your claim of service costs so deep to the point we’re animals have died, blood is on people’s hands and I’m not afraid to admit that. We’re not just talking about general expense we’re talking about how business operates within your vicinity, to make myself quite clear. To surplus your own gaining’s because someone is desperate is just downright appalling. Especially to something as helpless as an animal who cannot understand the complexity of human greed. I know very well their are more than just one way to do things, the thousands of dollars in debt way is well, unethical to both parties.I am hopeful that maybe somewhere there is still humanity within you as there is within me. This is your job, what you have gone to study, how you have chosen to live your life. It has to be important to you. I’m not saying you deserve to die, or that the business should fire people. I just believe you preform without intent of providing help. And that’s also a concern.Though I do not feel bad, You Acting as business and not a public necessity (despite 90% of households in America having pets), then I deserve the right to my review and the people deserve the right to know of the customs here at kill-them-all small animal hospital. This is not slander. I have a issue with this unseen kind of unfairness that is just allowed, and will continue on, most likely. And only the more problems does arise from it
My husband has been going there since they opened with all our animals over 20 he miraculously saved some that got hit by a car even though dr is now retired it is still a wonderful place to go. Dearly miss Dr. Killewld and his wife he sincerely cared about your animals and saved quite a few of ours from deaths door.
We have had nothing but issues here, we have been overcharged for unnecessary testing and when we talked to them about our displeasure nothing was done to rectify the situation. What we were told by the doctors and what was done never matched up and now we are out almost $800. They didnt even blink an eye when we said we would be taking our 3 animals elsewhere. Never again!

2020-11-29I cannot say enough good things about Killewald. Our dog hurt her back this morning and we could tell she was in pain. The vet squeezed us in almost immediately and made her feel so much better. The doctor and tech both had so much empathy and patience answering my many questions. They provided various options for treatment without making us feel pressured to choose a specific one. I would highly recommend this vet!! Thank God for people like the employees here!

2021-02-17It appears my previous review and several others have been removed?!? THIS ESTABLISHMENT WAS PURCHASED BY A LARGE CORPORATION AND is now far more concerned with profits then the health of your pet. They refused to fill my dogs flea/tic prescription without a check up when he was just in 3 months previous. You and your pet deserve better!
