King Kullen in other cities:
Cash only credit card system wasnt working.... and once again trying to get a sale but was met with all sorts of restrictions and requirements... Went to Key Food got the same price on the meat and didnt have to jump through hoops with requirements just to get a sale... goodbye King Clunking
This is the supermarket i grew up with, so I never realized that i expected high quality from every supermarket as the standard. That simply isnt the case with other supermarkets. King Kullen has the best quality of dairy, produce, meats from the deli counter or butchers. The bakery and pizza counter are awesome and a great way to get a fresh hot meal between the rotisserie chicken, soup of the day, pizza, calzones. I dont want to ever shop at another supermarket.***EDIT... This review was for the store on Sunrise Hwy on Manor Lane, considered Bayshore. Although this is the store Ive shopped at for decades, even before they demolished the mall and rebuilt the shopping center. But Ive never been in a KK that wasnt well kept.
This store is extremely clean with good prices. However when it’s mid day the parking lot is terrible and over crowded. When waldbaums was here they had two entrances which this king kullen needs to reopen that old second entrance to ease parking lot chaos. Someone backed into my car last year here because everyone crowds over to one entrance. Open up the old entrance and it’ll ease parking lot tensions.
First time in the Patchogue store..the store is immaculately clean!! All their produce and products on the shelves are perfectly aligned Its amazing!! I was truly surprised they have a wide variety of products available Ive never seen in any of the supermarkets on Long Island. Cashiers are super friendly and helpful.
I went to King Kullen to order my sons ice cream cake for fathers day...I was amazed on how clean & beautiful it was inside🤗just what I like🤗 I hadnt been there in a while have excellent heroes also...The cake was delicious & the manager in other staff was so helpful...When I was their they were very helpful..I never had that in any🙏🤗🙏💞🙏 supermarket🙏🙏🙏
They have your staples and some esoteric stuff, such as frozen octopus... and at half the price as a certain neighborhood fish store... yes, it is the exact same octopus... exactly the same. At certain time of the year they also carry baccala, dried cod fish. Great price too.
All employees need to wear their masks and also wear them correctly. Elderly woman employee packing meats in the case had her mask on below her chin and an elderly man working in produce always has his mask below his nose. I try not to notice these things but it’s sometimes impossible. Why is this so difficult?9/25/20 I will not return to this store..Today The Store Manager was Not wearing a mask and he walked from the front of the store to the back of the store with a mask in his hand… I tried to talk to him twice and he would not Acknowledge me at all! Unbelievable!
Store is large, very clean, well organized and the employees are helpful. But the prices...! Are the cashiers wearing masks for Covid or to take all of your $$$? I still strongly recommend ShopRite of Patchogue over this store. It was convenient to stop in, but you do pay for it!
While I enjoy shopping here I am frustrated by how many of their employees can’t wear a face mask properly. Today (7/14/2020) I came across 5 employees wearing masks below their noses, and one with it hanging off his ear. I get it when you’re alone but in front of and among customers? Do better!
Ridiculously overpriced. Let me state that again: ridiculously overpriced. The seleection of brands/ choices of items is lacking, especially for such a large square footage. Youd expect to be able to get exactly what you need, but many times its just not there. The meat quality is poor. The vegetables/fruits are average.Definitely would not recommend.Redeeming qualities: its clean and the staff are friendly.
Stopped by this store last night to buy a few items. The store itself is large bright and clean but the issue I have is the prices they ask for groceries. They are .75 to $1.50 higher on shelf items than Shoprite. There meat prices are equally outrageous. Also we went to use the blood pressure machine around 8:45pm and the pharmacist (a portly fellow) had an attitude because we interrupted his closing procedure. This is why I dislike King Kullen. The staff is always rude!
Thank you King Kullen for a job well done. I start dancing the second I walk in since the music selection is always fabulous. The employees are kind and always looking to assist or engage in conversation. The cashier I just worked with was discussing all of my lactose free products and mentioned his own issues. He was a young man but friendly and inquisitive. In a world where the young (and old) folks are consumed with social media, it was nice to meet this individual and see that he has excellent customer service skills. The food selection is always great and I thoroughly enjoy (if one can actually like food shopping) visiting this store. Say hello the next time you see me in the milk aisle.07/28/19-Unfortunately, I need to update my review to reflect some negativity. I am not sure where the quality control team is but this store has so many expired items. Almost every lactose free and dairy free yogurt I picked up was expired and not by a day, I mean weeks. All of the vanilla lactose free Yoplait expired on July the 12th. I pointed this out to the associate and he said he will get rid of them. Who keeps expired items on the shelf? You are risking the health of your customers. This store is convenient and easy to shop but lately, the quality is very disappointing. This is not the first time that I had to bring expired items to the attention of management. From the store made dishes to the bread, a definite system improvement is needed so reviews such as this one do not need to be posted. I invite you to speak with the young man who was stocking the yogurts yesterday, he will inform you as to how I pulled all of the yogurts off of the shelves and handed them to him. This is not my job but one does not want to see anyone getting ill. Please update your systems and put in a quality control team so that a more pleasant, less time consuming shopping experience may be had. Thank you for your time with this matter.
King Kulken is always the most expensive place to buy groceries and their stock of food variety is usually narrow to nonexistent. I only shop here in a pinch when Im desperate for a last minute ingredient because its down the road. Otherwise, the people who work there are generally nice and helpful.
Just moved to the area and am highly disappointed by this new store. While parking is ample, upon entrance you are greeted to a sterile environment that is more akin to a hospital than a grocery store. While shopping, the ugly and cheap light fixtures tower overhead and blind you as you attempt to pick out overpriced items (I guess they do this so you dont see the prices). The floors seemed dirty and the selection was rather dismal. For such an up and coming area, maybe King Kullen Corporate should take a hint from other chains like Burger King that have opened a minute away and invest more in customer satisfaction.Summation: If you are going to be fleeced, at least do it in a nice environment as Ive seen livestock situated in nicer accommodations.
There is an employee at the customer service counter that is so consistently rude that I do not plan on shopping at King Kullen any longer. The few occasions that Ive needed assistance at the customer service counter I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the same young lady. I never asked for anything outside of the typical customer service needs but was always treated poorly, like I was an inconvenience to her. Tonight was the final straw. I was returning spoiled produce that I had purchased the same day. This is the third week in a row that I purchased spoiled produce from this location. This was the first time I took the time to return it. The young lady behind the counter insisted I gave her the wrong receipt while I was holding the correct receipt in my hand. She spoke to me like I was dirt on her shoes. I got my $4 refund back. its amazing to me that King Kullen is going to lose in $1000 a month Customer because of some rude employee that gave me a hard time about returning their own spoiled food.On a positive note traditionally the cashiers are amazing the people in the bakery are awesome and the deli counter guys are always great. The employees that run the fish and meat counters are also great. Its a shame, the management has chosen the rudest employee to be the face of the service counter.Next week we switch to another grocery store.Adios King Kullen.
The pharmacist needs to brush up on her math skills. It’ was bad enough asking her to break a hundred, then a 50, but when I gave her an extra dollar to make my change an even $20 back, she refused because the register already told her 19 dollars & change, and I was confused her. So I left with a bunch of bills instead of just a 20.. Amazes me these people are monitoring our prescription count.. Now I’ll have to go home and count every pill to be sure!!
This is not one of the larger King Kullens. Sunday, June 17, I made a trip at 2 pm. While they had lettuce and cabbage that I needed, cilantro (and other fresh herbs) are in unlabled bins. When I found it, it wasnt in edible shape. But, it is good for a quick trip for staples such as milk, eggs etc. Which are fresh. The meats are fresh as well.
Purchased 2 cakes yesterday. A yellow 7-layer cake that was at least a week past prime and tasted like a lemon cake. I despise lemon cake. Equivalent to a 60 grit sandpaper. The other was a tuxedo cake. One white layer, one chocolate layer with a chocolate buttercream filling and a white frosting. Cake was much fresher, buttercream dry and gritty. Another 25 bucks thrown away. Very disappointing.
(8/7/2020)There is a manager in there old man with no much hair in his head talking about the wall should be done because he saw a Spanish guy in the recycle bottles machine that is not the way to be with costumer no matter what country they are,the place very nice and very clean

2021-07-27The bakery department here is beyond anything Ive ever tasted in my life. There was a sweet old woman behind the counter who was smiling and said sure honey to any request. The shopping experience is nice, the store is clean and it is easy to find things.

2022-04-22King Kullen has high prices. Some of their prices are ridiculous compared to other, local, stores. The only reason they remain popular is because they are convenient and some people dont have the luxury or ability to shop around.Plus, their produce department does not maintain the freshest produce. Their deli department could use some oversight, the weight scales for the cold cuts are almost always covered with small pieces of previous cuts, and the prices are just way too high.I will say this in high favor of this particular store, the staff here (the workers not managers) are top notch and friendly, which goes a long way.

2022-05-01King Kullen is very convenient but very over priced. I shop there about 4 to 5 times a week for my family and for my cleints since they took over Waulbaums but when I retire and make less money I wont be shopping there. I like it because in and out and the cart guy is very good to the customers. He returns my cart for me almost every time and Im always in a rush so that helps a great deal.

2022-06-20Very clean and stocked store. Their flower department is lovely and had everything I needed. If this is one of the King Kullen closing, I think they are making a mistake.

2021-12-30DO NOT order a carrot cake from the bakery. You will get a spice cake and they will not tell you when you order or when you pick it up. When you call the bakery to give feedback afterwards they will say We had to use a different mix because it was all that we had, what did you want us to do? Weve been out of it for 2 weeks. Maybe you should let people know that you cant make it?My fiance ordered a carrot cake for my birthday. There was not one shred of carrot in the mix. It tasted like a spice cake with raisins and cream cheese icing. Usually carrot cake are naturally moist because theres carrot in it. It was the driest carrot (spice) cake Ive ever had. If you go to a restaurant and order a steak and the chef makes you a pork chop without telling you because they dont have steak left and then make you pay for it and not offer a refund, how would you feel?

2022-04-14If your looking for something in a pinch this place is great. However it can be a little pricey for somethings. Its probably not the best place do all of your grocery shopping

2021-12-27Every single time i come in here, the same items have their prices increased. It’s like they charge more every day just cause they can. Sparkling cider $4.29 a bottle after the holidays have already passed, it’s $2.89 a bottle across the street for the same brand. I will no longer be coming here due to them increasingly over-charging. Extremely disappointing and morally reprehensible.
