King Souvlaki in other cities:
I usually pass through here and see good amount of people buying. I decided to try with my dad, mom, brother to see what’s the hype and man what a disappointment. I couldn’t believe that all 4 of our orders the meat was cold!. I gave them a 2nd shot on a different occasion and cold meat once again! And the meat was chewy with hardly any flavor. I’m giving up on this place, it’s unacceptable.
Usually we go to the location in Astoria but we came here last night and got two Chicken Souvlaki’s. They didn’t let us know they didnt have any fries left until they gave us the order. Still charged us full price. It was dry and had not real flavor except for excessive onion and almost no sauce. Worst experience
I was so excited to try this because I’ve heard great things! The negative: I wasn’t greeted/looked at/or felt welcomed at all when I approached the truck. They weren’t very friendly with me at all🤷🏽♀️The positive: food definitely lived up to the hype- it was absolutely delicious and not overly greasy or carby. It looked like way too much food but I actually ate it all and don’t feel gross/too full. I feel great. The chicken is seasoned amazingly and the salad is so fresh, light, and tasty. I would definitely come back despite the lack of a warm welcoming. Maybe next time someone else will be there and be nice!
I was always told by some to try this cart and I gave it about 3 tries before I completely gave up. Their beef and lamb gyro/platter is so bad. I really hate to say that, and the meat has all of that chewy cartridge in it so its incredibly hard to chew and swallow (pause), and it tastes so musty. It tastes like someone cooked it half way then left it under the cushion of a wet couch for a week then served you it but before they gave it to you they swiped it between a homeless persons buttcrack on a sweltering hot summer day. If you think Im lying, try it yourself or flush $10+ down the toilet, same thing.
Very low costumer service. I ordered a platter while I was waiting for a delivery order. They treated me as I was nobody and they served my food without utensils, no white sauce as requested. No complaining about the taste of their food but costumer service has too much to improve.
The chicken gyro platter is my go to every single time ! The chicken and French fries is seasoned so good and the white sauce with the pita bread is so delicious ! I just wished they had somewhere we could sit but For now taking it to go it’s fine. Definitely recommend.
Food was really good. However, they forgot to include my chicken souvlaki, which I realized when halfway across the city. The pickiest and youngest member of our family ended up not having half of his meal, which was very unfortunate and disappointing. If you’re placing larger orders that include more than one item, double check your bags to ensure nothing is forgotten.
Most times I pass & smell the distinct scent of meat grilled to perfection & for a moment Im transported to Greece although Ive never been there but imagine it smelling exactly the same. Id love to stop, but due to the fact the truck is under the train, theres entirely too much construction by the city going on & all the cars already double parked, I continue on without my fix satisfied. Finally one late night Im passing & I spy a parking spot, a doulble parked parking spot & I take it.Worth standing in the rain without an umbrella for my chicken souvlaki. Only disappointment...it was so late there wasnt any rice left. I had to make do with fries. Everything was delicious.
I have been stopping by this location for over 20 years as a field technician manager, since thee were a food cart with one umbrella, over the years met 3 brothers all good guys the customers not only like the food the customers like the owner brothers also this is the cause of there blessings and success. Good job.
One of the best truck spots to have any type of Gyro. The pork, chicken and lamb are all perfect. Definitely expect to wait because no matter what time you are craving Greek gyros, there will be five others in front of you. Everyone inside the truck is very nice and friendly. Make sure you have cash on you, as they do not accept credit cards.
Quite honestly the best Greek food Ive ever had. Noisy street traffic and rumbling trains be damned, this is fine dining regardless of atmosphere. For the cash deficient there is an ATM built into the side of the truck and the transaction fees are worth it. One sniff and youll know what I mean. Do not pass this truck up!
We got takeout from them a few weeks ago. We ordered two chicken souvlaki dinners and a falafel in a pita. I was bit surprised at the price tag of $61 but it was so delicious that made it easier to swallow ( pun intended). It was chicken kabob, lemon potatoes, a choice of salad or spanakopita. Lemon potatoes were really good. The staff is friendly and hard working. The portions fairly generous. We will definitely be back!
Very disappointed today with this place ! They have an atm machine on the side on the truck for cash money and I was trying to withdraw $100 to spent on food and they took the money plus fees but I never received the money. When I complained about the money he told me that he doesn’t have nothing to do with it and call the number! Called the number no answer the phone! Sir close the place or put sign that the machine doesn’t give the money! Hello I’m a customer trying to spent money for your business and you don’t care ? Never again !These are some pictures after the transaction just to see that the machine never give me the money and also a picture from my bank app that I checked my account! Don’t tell me nice try because I have enough money to buy anything I want and I don’t need to steal money from the machines . Also you have a camera and you can check if I took the money or not ! Also when I was trying to talk to my bank 8 of my people where in front of your truck ordering ! But from your response I understand what kind of person you are . Hopefully my bank will give my money that your machine took!Have a nice day Mr owner and next time check the events before you talk ! Out of service and checking account right there you can see them ! Time 12:30. Money $103 you can see the $3 fee!
Over all experience was fair. My order was correct and quick. Props to the guys behind the truck working hard. The gyro was pretty blend, not well seasoned or no salt maybe. Ive had lots of traditional gyros with lamb and white sauce, lettuce and tomatoe through out Astoria. But this one was different, it came with white sauce, tomatoes and sliced beef and lamb meat, oh and Fries. The meat was still a bit pink and not a big fan of that personally. It was okay, not the best gyro Ive had. Over all good I guess.
You order something to go and they put it in a bag with napkins with no silverware so that means you got to eat it with your hands.Food is good service is pretty badRegarding your answer. You are having a TOTALLY wrong perspective from your employees.NO ONE tell the clients to get silverware.
How they put a bigger truck and made me stand around for 25 minutes telling me there cooking new sticks. They should’ve been ahead of themselves with extra. Line was around the corner and not a single swine stick to be sold. Therefore I give them a 1 star. Worst service ever as they continued to lie. Keeping me hanging on. I finally walked away from the stand. So yeah they gotta get it together
Im a regular at Souvlaki trucks around the city, this one is so incredibly popular. I cant say its my favorite or even in my to five, really small portions of rice and meats. The rice is just ok. The meats are all really tasty, but now I just get skewers. Will add photos my next visit.
The food here is damn good, the gyros are better than at any restaurants Ive had. The meat is fresh the french fries are fresh and the tomatoes taste very fresh as well. Who wouldve thought a food truck on the street would have better quality food than most of the restaurants in town. Only problem is the service and some of the staff dont speak great English but I dont really mind. I wouldnt go to any other food carts in NYC except this one.
This is my absolute favorite food truck in Astoria! The food is always good and made fresh. There is always a long line which tells me that it’s worth the wait. In the summers I walk the half hour to get here and back to burn off my food. I love their chicken souvlaki on a pita.
Fresh fries, well seasoned tzaziki, and oregano on the salad give this place an edge for street food. Everything was good except they managed to give me AND my friend pork instead of chicken when we clearly ordered chicken. Not sure if they do this on purpose to rip people off, but I was very offended because I do not eat pork and didnt open the container before I got home. I will go here again out of convenience and appreciation for their food quality, but I will be checking the meat right after it is handed to me from now on.
I’ve been coming to this truck for almost 4 years. The food is excellent! I love it. however the service continues to baffle me. It continues to just get worse and worse.Today I had to write something and say some thing, because not only did She get my order wrong ( I was the only one there) but the quality of the food and how she prepared my pitas was terrible. You have one job to do and that is to make the pitas and prepare the food correctly. it seemed as though they were extremely distracted looking at something in the distance. I ordered a pork and chicken souvlaki pita, I got two chickens. Their masks were drawn down not covering their mouth or nose and it seems to be the norm. I don’t understand why this happened.People, customers need to be treated with more respect than this. I understand it’s a fat paced business, but it doesn’t give you a pass to be ignorant and unhealthy.
I know the food is good, but customer service needs to be corrected. I stood in front of the trailer for 7 minutes. There was only one customer in front of me. The 2 other workers saw me, but did not acknowledge. Ill take my money else where.A quick tip,few words like Ill be right with you can keep the customer, ignore the person and loose the customer.
Came from MD to pick up olive oil from the warehouse and my husband ask a gentleman that was also waiting where is there a good place to eat. He told us about King Souvlaki where he works and boy are we glad we stopped on our way back home. Service and food was excellent!!
I don’t think this lives up to the hype at all. Food was bland, all things considered. It was the first meal I’ve had in a while where it seemed to get worse as I went along. The meat was tough in some parts, rubbery in others. The salad tasted like watery lettuce with no flavor. The fries were so greasy that grabbing them actually took thought. Maybe we just grabbed food on the wrong day, but with so many competing restaurants around I am not inclined to give it a second try.
The best greek souvlaki in Astoria, no doubt!Ive been eating here for years, and they are consistent in quality! Its always on the same place: 31st Street and 31st Avenue, but now they have a few others: Ditmars Blvd, Bay Ridge...Fresh meat (pork/beef/chicken/lamb), fries or rice, tzatziki salad, greek salad, good service, afordable...What else you can expect? And they are very fast!My favorite one is chicken souvlaki platter with fries.CASH ONLY, DONT FORGET! (they have an ATM at the spot though).
Terrible service at night. This was the second time I grabbed food from this cart. I came earlier in the week during the afternoon for lunch. Quick and easy friendly service. So I decided to stop by for a late night bite. Boy was I shocked by the rudeness from the lady working the window. Maybe it’s a language issue or she was having a bad day. I don’t know. But theirs no need to be rude and make faces over adding fries to a platter that clearly comes with fries. Seen the negative reviews didn’t think it would happen to me on my second visit. Very disappointed.
Traveling from out of state, checked this out due to all the good reviews. After hunting the truck down in the rain, at night, dodging all of the delivery scooters, this was totally worth it. Some of the best Greek food I have ever had. Actually ruined a local spot, by my airport, I use to visit, because now I know how good everything can be. Check them out if you fly in to LaGuardia and are hungry, dont be intimidated by the local New Yorkers, their great.
My wife put me on to this place. This is the best greek food I have ever tried and also the best food Off of a truck I have ever tasted. Customer service is good and so is the price. If you are getting a gyro make sure to ask for Larry to make it for you he makes it the best. Cash Only!
I love this place. I always get the pork gyro and pork stick and everything is delicious. Ive gotten lamb gyros and Greek fries as well and I am never disappointed. Only thing parking is tough, only metered street parking available, even got a ticket once being double parked. However the food was able to calm my anger down. Line can be long at times which is a clear distinction how great the food is. Highly recommended
Ive eaten here so many times over the past few years and the food has always been consistent and delicious. My go-to is the lamb gyro plate, lamb gyro by itself, chicken souvlaki and lamb souvlaki. The food is seasoned well and so flavorful. I love their hours. I always go out of my way to come here and eat. I always want everything on it too with lemon, oregano, hot sauce, etc. Anyways cant say enough about this place. Ill continue to eat here for the foreseeable future. Yum!
I saw a review on yelp that said they are gluten friendly so I went to check them out. They fry their french fries separately in olive oil which is great. They are, however, not at all gluten friendly. They use tongs to put together the salad, pick the meat off of the skewer and to pick up and fry the bread/pita. I took a gamble and did not get sick but it is cross-contamination galore. I gave 5 starts because the food was good but to clarify any other reviews, it is not gluten friendly.
Amazing good food! Portions are huge, they dont skimp on anything - meat, veggies, sauce, spices - loaded gyros and plates. Even the salad I had was huge! Highly recommended food truck, probably the best gyro Ive ever had. (Cash only - $3 ATM built into the side of the truck)
I had a very bad experience with the truck on Ditmars and Steinway. I went to order my Gyro and the guy (tall skinny with ponytail) could understand what I was ordering I said pita sandwich. He goes and says sandwich hero I said no $8.00. as I seeing him putting the meat on the pita I see that the meat looks burned so I said may I have other pieces that are are not burned. He continues to ignore me and continues to put tomato and onions and fires on the pita. I told him salt and hot sauce. He continues to put oregano on my fries. I said no oregano. As I say the he turns and tell me (Malaka). When he said that I told that didnt want the sandwich anymore, I guess he was having a rough day. I will not ever go buy anything from that truck ever again. I will continue to go to 31st Street. This guy should not be working with people.Bad Customer service.I want what I want on my sandwich not what he chooses to put on. Maybe he should go back to school and learn some customer service etiquette.
After being a customer for years, I was told that the menu is limited for in person customers and that the gyro was for seamless orders only. Even though I just watched them cut a ton of fresh chicken gyro we were told that we could only get souvlaki because the gyro is only for delivery orders. I thought this was a local business that respected their local customers. After waiting in line to be told that is just disrespectful. Now it seems they are just focused on delivery culture and in person customers are not important. Very sad. Definitely my last stop over there.
Place is always busy and the staff is friendly and the food is fresh. I took two stars off because they are so busy that they cook/barbeque the souvlaki and the gyro and then place it in warmers so its ready when you order. Same for the fries, It ruins the flavor for me and gives the meats a steamed taste. This makes it quicker. The crispness is gone.
First of all, I work in this place so of course I will tell you some good stuff. They do their best to keep up the quality. They use Olive oil for their hand cut french fries. Also they use REAL charcoal not the fake grill restaurants use. No one can beat that flavor. In addition they provide you with some chairs and tables so you can eat.
I asked for beef and the gave me lamb. I hate when they do this all the time. Be honest please/ response to owner: well I asked for beef on a stick and I was given lamb; this is the third time. Might not be on the menu but that’s what I asked for and lamb is what I got. Your staff should just said we don’t have beef on a stick then.
Greek On The Street Is Very Greedy! They raised the prices of their food higher! Why would you raise the prices of your food when you guys make close to $1000 a day in tips from your restaurant on wheels??? Thats greedy! Now you guys wonder why theyre are no long lines anymore. Because of your greed! Thats why! And you did raise your prices! I have proof!!! Your sticks were $3.00, now $3.50 Stop being greedy!!!
3rd time i ordered for delivery and i never get the food! They say they called me but i didn’t answer while i had my phone in my hand all the time! Freaking liars! Worst delivery service ive ever seen! Dont make the same mistake i did three times! Do not call them for delivery you will never get the food!
First of all, I like meat, and since they serve it here, I am happy.Sober I would rate this place 5 stars, drunk with 69 stars and high with 420 stars.Only negative thing that I can say about this place is that it is so good and the food they serve here is so excellent that it has ruined my social life, I am unable to think of something else other than that food, and all in all it got me addicted. For example my ex gained 20 pounds eating there and once we broke up and she changed town, she shed 40 pounds and rubbed it into my face later on.Perfect place, perfect food and perfect service, however keep your girl away or you will regret it.
I live in the neighborhood and I used to go from time to time. They sometimes have good food but more often than not cannot tell the difference between meats.Within a couple of months, they have mistaken lamb for pork twice. The first time, I let it slide. The second time around, I went back to get a replacement and they proceeded to accusing me of saying pork in the first place. Since they made the mistake the first time, I was very careful to make sure to say lamb so I know I did not say pork. The employee was overall very defensive and rude, trying to prove that it wasn’t her fault and that it was my fault.Overall, their customer service is just bad and their food is a hit or miss (their food can be cold and dry/stale).## reply to business’s replyThe reply is an ironic display of the defensiveness that I was talking about. The “sorry not sorry” approach. You are once again, trying to prove that I was in the wrong. This time, by lying about what had happened. Here are the list of lies from my perspective:- You claim that 45 minutes had passed when it actually was around 20 minutes. Not sure why that even matters though.- You claim that I ate most of the food when I only took a few bites and realized it was not lamb.- You claim the server was respectful, but how is murmuring I actually ordered pork respectful? Seems you have a different standard for respect. (This one could potentially be cultural differences)But only we know what actually happened. To anyone reading this, it’s my word vs yours, so there’s no point trying to prove you wrong. But, I hope that people will see at least, the way you treat disappointed customer, regardless of what truly happened.Seems once I edited my post, their reply is no longer visible... oh well.
Went there to pick up a Greek salad n a long time a waited lamb gyro,,salad was made fresh with feta, but they forgot the grape leaves n the hot pepper, n not enough base salad n she put too much dressing which made salad soggy, the staff is friendly n food is good for a foodtruck, but the thing i went there the most for was the lamb gyro, with everything on it, i didnt eat it right away because I had another delivery in the BRONX so went there n ate it over there but when started eating it it tasted funny n when i looked at it closely i saw she gave me a beef gyro instead of the lamb n if she didnt have lamb she should of told me or ask me if i wanted the beef, was very disappointed by that n that i was looking forward to the lamb gyro, but the gyro was good, but they didnt put any lettuce on it either,, but will give them one more chance next time im around there
If you think you had the best but havent been here.....you HAVENT had the best. Consistent, awesome flavor, always fresh and piping hot. Almost always long, but VERY fast moving line and friendly service. Been going there for years hasnt change much outside of adding pretty yet all the same talent staff. This place needs 10 stars
This guy went from a hot dog stand size push cart to buying a food truck. Hes been there for years. I never liked lamb and my boy bought me a lamb souvlaki didnt tell me it was lamb until I said how good it was and his response was I thought that you dont like lamb since then I now eat lamb.
I used to pass in front of it and ask myself why so many people stand in line to grab some truck food...it turns out they had a good reason.Souvlaki has vary good greek truck food. Of course its not a restaurant and they have no tables, but thats not the point anyway. If you want good food to go or grab outstanding sandwiches and youre in doubt about their quality, dont be, go for it.
This food truck is an Astoria institution. I love their chicken souvlaki pita, with oregano and lemon juice, tsatziki, tomatoes and red onion, as well as a bunch of fries, all rolled into a delicious and highly edible package.Come with cash. They do have an ATM on the front of the truck, if you dont have any on you. Their food is very popular, theres usually a line, but it moves at a fast clip.
Overrated!! This place is mostly hype. $65 for 4 people is a bit much from a food truck. The salad cost $13 and it wasnt fresh, .the lettuce was wilted, the tomatoes were mushy, the olives couldve been better quality for authentic greek food and it was mostly giant pieces of onion filling .the plate. The meat was dry on the gyro and grilled chicken, you can tell that the meat was not seasoned (not greatly) that same day. This food truck left a lot to be desired.
The food is great but there is one lady there that is extremely rude and aggressive, I witnessed her scream at my mother, and also had a very nasty attitude towards me. Most of my family liked this place because of the food, but the service is terrible, and after the last incident, they have lost all of us as clients, and Im sure they will keep on losing them if that lady keeps on treating customers like that.
When I came here I was a little intimidated and overwhelmed by the menu lol.....Everything looked so delicious!!! I had no idea what to get....... The lady who prepared my food was very nice and pleasant....Well I ended up with the Souvlaki with the French Fries/Feta Cheese.....The food was hot, tastey, and fresh...... It was so good....I ended up bringing my sister.... I wish I lived closer and they delivered....... I will be coming again and bringing friends!!
When they got rid of the food cart for the lunch truck I was skeptical at first.I can say though the quality of the food is has gone up. The Chicken Souvlaki is sold at a great value. Now with so many establishments opening up around the neighborhood selling Souvlaki its nice to see King Souvlaki hasnt deviated from their roots.Side note: Place is Cash Only and form one line !
Customer service was great, ambiance was great and there was plenty of seating! The food is okay, but it comes quickly, so I cant complain. I also got their Ferrero Rocher shake, but was disappointed because it seemed watered down. Ill be back to try more of their food, though, because the place smelled amazing.
The menu clearly says the price. How do you over charge people with a menu on your truck? Prices posted said $15, got charged $16. Ive been here a few times. Terrible customer service. I told the guy the order twice and two minutes later asked me a 3rd time what i wanted, same thing with the woman. Either theyre tired or they just dont care. They got cocky from making too much money.
Food is good. Good enough to deal with the attitude that the people who work here can have sometime. It is not a restaurant, but it is more famous than many restaurants in New York. I love street food, I think it is cool and you have the ability to discover new things. And here I have been eating for many years.
I’ve been to location on Grand ave in Elmhurst/ Maspeth. It is in front Starbucks at 74 street. When I originally wrote review that location came up.Great food. I’ve been to it 3 times. Had chicken gyro, chicken with rice and lamb rice on Friday. Family run pleasant people. I changed star ⭐️ to 3 because of confusion of places.
Im so glad he finally got a food truck. Well deserved. Really nice man. Always service with a smile. I had the chicken souvlaki platter which was enormous. The chicken was tender and delicious. The fries were greek style which is the best I ever had (you can also add feta if you want) And the salad was fresh and filling.
Picked up some lunch from King Souvlaki for me & one of the executives from our office today. The CEO said that its the best lunch he has had in the area by far. And Ive gone to 10 different places for him in the last 6 months. The souvlaki and chicken are so tender and juicy that it literally melts in your mouth. The Greek salad was perfection; topped with crumbled feta (if you ask). I absolutely love this spot! Definition of authentic Greek deliciousness.
I was really disappointed. It seems they are mixing the lamb with regular meat (for the person who responded to my comment - beef, since it was so confusing to him/her). I was so upset, that if I wasnt so far I would have returned it.Judging by the nasty responses from King Sovlaki to peoples comments, it also seems that their management lack costumer service skills aswell.
Terrible service. What happened to you guys ? You pay more attention to the deliveries than to your customers who are waiting in the cold weather so long time. Also the sort lady better to learn some English rather than to be rude and increase her voice on me cause she doesn’t understanding English.
Ive been coming here for years for awesome authentic souvlaki, lemon soda and sides. If your in Astoria get to this food truck asap. Also some they have some great workers on the truck that make the some of the best Greek food on this side of the Atlantic. And all for an affordable price.
Very disappointed, the third time in a row I came here to eat. Ordered souvlaki platter with Greek fries (which according to their visual pictures on the truck, that feta cheese was included) got the platter and asked where was the feta cheese, only to be asked for additional $2. I mean cmon talk about nickel and diming their customers. Not to mention the pork was way over grilled and was just as chewy as a twizzler the fries were so greasy as if they put it straight on the platter from the fryer... very disappointed, they were a lot better when they had the little cart with the umbrella on the corner, their quality has gone downhill since the food truck appeared... sad to say that was my last time patronizing them
Hope you read this King Souvlaki!! Me and my family eat at your truck 2-3 times a week and there is no better souvlaki to be found but please dont serve the burnt dry gyro, its come to the point that I have to ask for a fresh cut. Please keep your high standards and serve only the absolute best cuts of meat in NYC. I will not give up coming and I will gladly change my review once I see that you address this. Offer burnt tips to the customers that want them. I Luv you Souvlaki King!!
I use to LOVE AND SWEAR by this place, but their expansion has made the quality decline. Ill still go every now and then, but not 3-5 times a week like the good old days. The tsatziki use to be fresh scooped onto the platters. Now its pre-packaged and meh.The fries are always soggy lately, and Im not talking about fries that have been ordered to take out, traveled in a sealed container and opened. Im talking about the fries they give you to eat right then and there. Instantly soggy. Not cool.I loved this place when it was just a little cart and the early days of the truck. Now its been corporately neutered.

2022-05-12Great food truck restaurant. Food is always fresh and tasty! Unfortunately that isnt a secret and the wait times can be rather long.

2021-11-25It was okay but the meat (beef and lamb) could have been more tender, so we were slightly disappointed given the high ratings and what are relatively high-ish prices, given the options in the area. But the staff was friendly and overall we enjoyed it!

2021-11-13Minus five stars. I ordered 4 chicken souvlaki sandwiches. The chicken was disgusting and looked like purple color. We have to throw it away. Taste like it was sitting there for a while first and last time ordering. Better go to souvlaki bar. Never ever again.

2022-02-01I don’t know how many times I’ve been here but it never disappoints. The food is always hot, tasty and given in large portions. I’m not sure why people are complaining about the customer service, it’s always fast and efficient, and family owned… it’s not meant to be a sit down restaurant. Love this place and will always come back!!

2022-02-19A bit pricey but worth the money. Great customer service and pretty speedy with your food order. The only negative review I can have is that they dont offer electronic payments of any type. No debit or credit cards either. only cash.

2021-07-04HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!! Just wow!! This is my new standard for real gyro & souvlaki! Get the platter (ask for half pork gyro & half pork souvlaki) with lemon, paprika & salt (you will thank me)!!! Oh my goodness!! They also cater events (they will drive their truck anywhere in the tristate area). We enjoyed this meal at 11pm!!!!!!!!

2021-06-09King Souvlaki - fitting name.As the food cart Souvlaki kingdom is currently battling with theyre own success. The fries are amazing. But, when you become such a cornerstone in the land its difficult to match everyones high expectations. But, no matter the outcome of the order the customers will always continue to return.

2022-02-06Been going here since I was a kid. Best souvlaki period. An absolute must try for anyone in the area. He’s the king for a reason!!
