Working at the Kings Bay Y for my first year has shown me that this summer camp is not just about work, it’s about the kids. The positive environment and constant high energy from the counselors is what makes me want to work everyday. Each day wouldn’t been ran without the help of my division leaders Oren Kornfeld and Benjamin Kravchik. Both of them have made me realize that camp is all about distracting any negativity in the kids lives and making them enjoy their summer while making new memories and close bonds. Division 2 was an amazing division to be apart of this summer. Kings Bay Y has become my second home and with that came along a huge family of counselors and campers! I would highly recommend this summer camp to any parent that is thinking of sending their child to a camp and anyone thinking of working at the Kings Bay Y.
Summer 17 will mark my first year working at the Y. It has been a great experience so far, especially being a counselor in teen camp. At first, I wanted to work with younger children, but eventually was switched to teen camp and I am so glad I was. Going to different trips every day and being aside from the others only makes the summer more fun for not just the campers, but the staff as well! The kids are always coming to camp asking what we are doing today and looking forward to our trips all the time. I would like to thank my amazing division leader, Veronika, for making this experience so amazing for me. She is always there for her counselors making sure everything is going well, and that everyone is satisfied. Anytime I would need help with something whether it was regarding the campers or the staff, I know who to turn to and it would be her. Veronika is very generous, fun to be around, and helpful always. Looking forward to next summer with teen camp!
My daughter has gone through several camps and this summer is our first at Kings Bay. The personalized attention is incredible. The staff go above and beyond to make the kids happy and keep the parents informed. Im always able to reach staff whether through the GroupMe app or by phone. The trips, sleepover and best of all, the trip to Club Getaway were amazing! Very much looking forward to the rest of the summer. We will definitely be back next year.
I have been working for Kings Bay Y for three years now. This summer I worked in the teen camp and it has been an amazing experience. I have worked before with younger children, but it does not compare to the energy you get while working with teens. At first, I was hesitant to work in a teen camp because I was used to working with younger children, but I couldnt be happier with my decision. Everyday coming into work its nothing but laughs and very rarely there is a dull moment. The campers always come to camp lively and vibrant as can be, which makes the trips we go on funner than they already are. The kids are outgoing with great personalities, making them unique in their own way. What makes them come out of their shell is our counselors and division leader, Veronika. Having her as my division leader makes coming into work something I look forward to. Shes devoted, enthusiastic, motivating, and the friendliest person I have ever met. Without her, the environment we work in wouldnt be the same. I could always come to her with any questions about anything, always getting back to me with a super helpful answer. Shes a lenient and reasonable person, making my job easier, and I appreciate her for that. So far, being in teen camp has been an great experience, and it made my summer fantastic!
Joining the teen department and being a summer camp counselor at Kings Bay Y has changed my life. Tomer, Veronica, and Oren are great people who have helped me get through tough things in life and have fun during Teen events. Additionally, all 3 take the teens opinions into consideration when scheduling future events Working at a summer camp opens up your heart and really shows how different it is from being a camper. The Kings Bay Y has many different programs to offer for kids of all ages.
This is my first summer working at Kings Bay Y, and it was a great experience. Meeting new people and getting to know the kids, made this summer, my best one yet. My division leader Gabriel was always there when I went through tough times, and he helped me, when I needed it. While working at the Y, I was able to go to fun events and fun trips. Even though this great and enjoyable summer is coming to an end, I am happy be part of this great Kings Bay Y family. I truly loved working in Kings Bay Y this summer.
I really enjoy this camp. I would like to say that the upper staff, Katy, Kathy, Ayzik, Tomer and other’s are very helpful, caring and really listen to you. They always make sure that the kids along with the counselors ate in a safe environment. The kids have tons of fun making friends and interacting with counselors. The kids always say how they can’t wait for soccer or archery or any activities in general. As a counselor working there my day is always brighter Seeing the kids go home with a smile on their face. This is undoubtedly the best place to send your kids for a fun, safe and unforgettable summer.
Genuinely the best summer camp out there! I’ve had an amazing experience as a counselor, the division leaders Oren and Ben, as well as the camp directors Tomer and Azyhik ensure the day runs smoothly and the campers always have fun. Everyone is very welcoming and make the environment always enjoyable to be in. If your looking for a fun camp to send your child to, this is it!
This is my first year working and it has been a pleasure working at the kings bay y swim camp this summer. Swim camp isnt just like the regular camps at kings bay y, it is a big family. Not only are all the staff close with the children, but the parents as well take part in this big family. Our upperstaff (heads, assistants, supervisor) let the parents know at all times how the kids are doing. We at the kings bay y use an app called Group Me which lets all the parents talk to the staff about their child and enjoy seeing pictures taken by the staff of their child enjoying a wonderful time at camp. Everyday is a happy day at the Y. The staff makes sure every child has a smile on their face at all times during pool, on the trip, at the base, and even at the park. Swim camp ages from 6-15. You may think that having your 6 year old in the pool scary. However our staff( lifeguards, swim instructors, and counselors) make sure your kid is always safe and improving on their swimming skills to be the best. Come join swim camp and be part of this amazing family💕
What a great summer at this camp! My daughter attended 6 weeks of activities this year before we go on vacation but so much fun, shes actually sad on her last day. Well coordinated bus pick up and drop off..fun filled days and downright awesome counselors, even the bus drivers are friendly and wave! Definitely looking forward to summer 2019.
I had a chance for my son to be in King Bay Y summer camp 2017. My son 9 y.o. and from all the camp he had been before he preferred King bay. I noticed that he really liked the BASKETBALL camp. Kids had fun every day with different activities, such as basketball, swimming, day trips, music, soccer, cooking class. They even went for 3 days (sleep over) to Connecticut and had fun with rock climbing, zip lining, ropes course, water slides, bunny trampoline, hiking, camp fire, DJ dance party and more. My son got back home with a lot of memorable stories. Overall, I was glad for my son to stay in that camp. He had pleasure to enjoy time with the other kids. I strongly recommend KING BAY Y summer camp. Thank you couch Ayzik and team Allan, David, Dennis, Samuel for a terrific job.
Although this was my first year working at Kings Bay Ys Summer Camp, it feels like Ive worked here for a lifetime. The amount of bonds I have made at this camp are unbelievable (with both staff and kids). I would like to thank my division leader Michelle and assistant Oren for making my experience as a staff at this camp incredible. Obviously there have been times where not every day went according to plan, but there have also been days that were so incredible and they wouldnt be possible without Michelle and Oren. Not only do they have to make sure that all children are not only safe but have fun, they make sure to do the same with us. Sure every day when I get home I cant wait to sleep because we all know how kids can be, but every morning that I wake up I honestly cant wait to get to work because I cant wait to see all the little human beings that bring a smile to my face. This camp allows the children not only to get close with one another but also with their staff and I cant wait to come back next year to see how much theyve all grown. As summer camp is ending, we are all getting very sad to be parted from one another because I think its safe to say that this was the best summer any of us ever had. Thank you to Michelle, Oren, the rest of the staff of Kings Bay Y and the children for making my summer perfect (and make me feel like a little kid again).
At the age of 15 , Ive experience lots of camps as a camper. But this year I had the pleasure of working at the Kings Bay Y summer camp. Kings bay Y is by FAR the best camp experience I have had. Kids are well taken care of by experienced and caring counselors who pay attention to their children and treat them just as a brother or a sister , with respect and compassion. Kids experience everything from amazing trips like rock climbing and different indoor water parks and sleepaway camps where they have an immense amount of fun as well as just swimming ,doing creative arts , or dancing at the Y. The counselors create a great atmosphere for the kids and even the division leaders create an amazing atmosphere for the counselors. Especially Oren Kornfeld and Michelle Vilenchik. They made us feel as if kings bay y was another home and they became family. They both were great leaders and inspired many of the counselors AND children in so many ways. They made it a pleasure to come to work the next day. Oren shared his love of theatre and show business with the kids even though he was so busy with so many other things at the time. He even gave us a leg up in the color war competition 😉. Michelle , not only maintained LOOKING great , took care of the parents while also helping kids out with theirs first aid issues and keeping an eye on the counselors and helped us improve our jobs. We all work extremely hard but I believe it pays off in the end when the children end up enjoying their summer and honestly , thats all that matters. Overall , i couldnt have asked for a better summer experience this year , at least not in a camp.. and I should hope the kids feel the same.
I have had a lot of fun in the short time that Ive been working here. All of the kids enjoy the time that they spend at camp as the supervisors such as Michelle and Oren plan fun activities for them. These activities include fun trips to water parks and arcades or activities with specialists that involve sports or music. The kids also enjoy the time that they spend in the pool during the day. I would highly recommend that your kid spends their summer with us at the Kings Bay Y.
It is with ample pleasure that I write this review as a staff member of the Kingsbay Y Swim Camp. This is my first year working at the Y as a Swim Camp Supervisor. The past 3 summers I have worked as a counselor. The experience has been nothing but amazing. The Y touches on many key elements of what a summer camp needs.First off, it is important that there is direct contact between the parents and head counselor/ supervisor. The Y takes advantage of a free app called GroupMe. This allows high communication and concrete information to be passed within the groups of the parents based on the childs age. In addition, parents are allowed to contact the counselor and/or supervisor anytime during camp hours. By using this app, the head counselor is able to send pictures to all the parent groups throughout the day and update the parents rapidly in any case.Secondly, the administrative staff allows parents to view the camps schedule and food menu online for every day of the weak. Trip days we have sandwiches and when at maknsite we serve hot lunches such as mac and cheese.Thirdly, the staff are all professional and have a natural talent when it comes to working with the children and parents. There isnt a single counselor in swim camp who didnt know a childs name and gotten close with the parent past day 2 of camp. These counselors go out of their way to make sure all parents concerns are addressed by the end of the camp day. The counselors are always engaged with the kids and having the kids giggling and smiling all day long! There is never a dull moment between the counselors and the children. Each activity lasts from 45-60minutes, which is still not long enough for some kids!😂 We have cooking, drums, magic, and even bubble soccer. On Tuesdays, we have the pleasure of swimming outdoors at the Fort Hamilton Army Base. Wednesday we take various trips such as to the Bronx Zoo and Funplex. In addition, the swim instructors work enthusastically with the kids to ensure not only their technique is proper, but that week 2,3 of camp, the beginners move to the intermediate and advanced level.Every Friday we hold a swim competition from 3-4pm where parents are more than free to come watch. In addition, we hold one swim competition where parents can actually participate in the competition along with the kids!Swim Camp at Kingsbay Y is truly an incredible camp and we are one big, small family❤️
The kings bay y welcomed me in being part of a community. From bonding with kids during bonfires to dancing with them in the morning, there is never a dull moment in the teen camp division. Being a counselor gave me an opportunity to be the one person the kids could look up to. My division leader, Veronika, was always organized and communicated with the counselors very well. Getting involved with the teen department gave me new experiences and opportunities. Having a place to go to escape made me always feel grateful for what Tomer, Veronika, and Oren developed.
This is our second year at KBY summer camp. The way my daughter feels about herself, her friendships, her counselors is indicative of how much care goes into the program. If she is happy then I am happy and boy does she love going to this camp every day! The counselors, whether they are her bus counselors or regular camp counselors have proven themselves to be incredibly attentive to my child both with regard to her feelings and her safety. Not only that , I can feel free to ask them ANYTHING and they ALWAYS get back to me in a timely fashion. Kings Bay Y has set up GroupMe with counselors and parents as well as administrative staff so that parents can easily communicate their questions/ concerns and delights about what is going on with their children. Also the counselors keep us posted about any changes during the daily schedule and they submit photos to GroupMe so we can get cool snapshots of our kiddos in action! My daughter goes TO camp and returns FROM camp with a smile pretty much every day. So, thanks to her AWESOME, FABULOUS, CARING, SWEET and THOUGHTFUL counselors, she is feeling this way!
Great summer program. Its been a second year my son goes to summer camp. They use outdoor pool and indoor when its raining. They plan different trips (including water park, beach, attraction parks and so on). Very flexible: have early drop off/ late pick up. And more importantly: Staff!!! Counselors are great! They are like friends to kids. Im impressed the way they communicate with children. They started GroupMe chat last year where you get all updates during the day: pictures, notifications, you can also ask questions and will get response in 5 minutes about your kid, trip, and so on. Will bring my younger child to swim camp next year ;)
I have personally worked with the Y for about two years now and I can guarantee swim camp has been such a humbling experience. I have made friends with such amazing staff that i can see friendship that last so long. I worked with division 1 my first year and was hesitant to do swim camp, but Michelle Fogel, the supervisor, convinced me to join swim camp this summer. In swim camp I found my place and the kids, counselors I worked with, and supervisor Michelle made me feel this way. Michelle convinced me to do swim camp and its a decision I will never regret. Shes persuasive, creative, intelligent, quick on her feet with any decision, organized, motivating , generous, and pushes you to your greatest ability because she sees it in anyone. Swim camp counselors are the most attentive and dedicated counselors that Ive ever met because we work hands on with a variety of different kids, distinguished personalities, and parents. We actually really do care about the children and put are all in participating with them and giving them an amazing summer. Swim camp is extremely organized from a minute to minute exact schedule that is followed to the T. If an activity is running late counselors will occupy the kids with something to do always, no one is ever bored or sitting with nothing to do. We have a huge option of specialist from archery, to drums, arts and crafts, cooking, soccer, bubble soccer, dodge ball, basketball, and more. We swim twice a day and have amazing instructors come in and really focus on every child within the group, and train them to push forward with their swimming abilities. We re-test kids on swim levels and we notice improvement always. We also give kids a fun and safe chance in the water with races, competitions, flotation devices, boards, and free time. We allow parents to even compete with the kids or watch the kids swim and compete as well. Parents are always updated and kept in touch with for any changes, announcements, pictures, and questions, on a personal and group basis. And if thats not all, we have amazing trips, and dress up days that kids participate in from trips to water parks and Dave n Busters, to dress up days like Animal Day to a color war. Swim camp is by far an amazing experience and I want to come back next year because of the bonds Ive created and lessons Ive learned.
We enrolled our 12 years old for summer camp here and she enjoyed so much! It is the only program really tailored for teens that we found around Brooklyn, they really put thought behind the planning and keep the kids busy, taking them to places they will enjoy. She loved activities like riding “The Beast” or going to Six Flags, and Madamme Tusseau... etc. They also have short overnight plans that are a great addition. I wish they were longer than 3 days though... they came back really tired of the trip. Counselors are very easy to reach, they keep you posted at all the times through texts and group texts! Way much more than I expected for a teen group, but it is always welcome! They will share pictures and a lot of info. Overall, this is a great program and camp for teens, and I’m sure they do a great job for other divisions too.
I work at the Kings Bay Y summer day camp. I personally believe that every child should experience a good summer at Kings Bay Y we make sure that the kids are having fun and do many activities with them. We go to the Fort Hamilton Army Base and we get to use the bowling alley, pool, and theater. Everytime i see a kid pass by me they have the biggest smiles on their faces. Kings Bay Y is by far the best Summer Day Camp in Brooklyn.
Kings Bay Y BASKETBALL CAMP exceeded my expectations this year!!! My son had an amazing time at the camp filled with lots of intense basketball training (on some days the coaching was by former NBA players!!!). Also, the trips were very interesting and overnight getway trip to Connecticut was something my son is still talking about. The counselors were professional and caring. Highly recommend the camp for novice and basketball fanatics alike!
Kings Bay Y has most definitely changed my life. I have met so many new friends in the teen department that I know will last by my side till we grow old. Tomer, Oren, and Veronika are outstanding people and do their jobs very well. Even if its something like one of us is injured or is just in a bad mood, I know i can always reach out to any of these three people and they will help me through it all. Other than that, the summer camp is amazing! Each and every day is filled with different activities, friends, trips, food, etc. so that no child can possibly ever be bored. Kings Bay Y’s summer camp 2018 has been fantastic and something that none of us staff will ever forget about.
Working at the Kings Bay Y this summer has been a pleasure and Im glad that I got the chance to work here. The staff is hard-working, efficient, and attentive to the needs of the kids. The activities and trips at the Y kept the kids entertained and happy, and the division leaders Michelle and the assistant division Oren, get their jobs done & work well along with the rest of the staff. Utilizing group has also been extremely helpful because it allows the staff to get in touch with a parent if need be at any time. Im happy that I got to have the experience of working here this summer.
This is my daughters 6 years in this summer camp. This year she is in Teen Travel Camp. The parents happy when their children happy. The camp has amazing dedicated and kind counselors (Erica, Mike and the others), professional and helpful division supervisor (Veronica) and director (Angela). My daughter went on many trips such as to Governors island, the Funplex, Manhattan Graffiti Tour, Adventureland, Long Island Aquarium and many more with the travel camp. Every year the administrators are adding more and more interesting trips for the campers. This year they added 3 days trip to Club Getaway where the kids had amazing time swimming in the lake, had activities such as zip line, bungy jumping, trampoline jumping, hiking, and evening bonfire. My daughter enjoys to go to Kings Bay Y summer camp. I am highly recommended it.
This was my first year working at Kings Bay Y, and it was such a great experience. The environment made us all feel like we were part of one big family. Throughout the summer I had a great group to count on, and it was obvious that we made the kids happy. The kids loved camp, and our great division leaders Oren and Ben made the experience unforgettable.
Working at Kings Bay Y this summer has truly been one of the best experiences! Kids spend the day having fun and enjoying various activities. The camp directors, Ayzik and Tomer, and division leaders, Katie and Kathy, always ensure that everyone is staying safe and enjoying themselves. This has been a memorable summer. Kings Bay Y is a great community which I want to continue to be a part of!
Great environment to work in. From my personal experience the bosses (Katy and Kathy) are extremely nice and understanding. The children are loveable and fun to be around. Amazing camp with many activities. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a job or any child or parent looking for a camp.
This was my first year working at camp and I’m so grateful that I chose Kings Bay Y. I love working here and this place makes me feel like home. The division leaders are wonderful and this was an unforgettable summer and I wouldn’t want to spend summer anywhere else. The campers are amazing and I love spending time with my kids.
This was my first summer here and it’s been absolutely amazing. This is the best camp I’ve ever worked at or been a part of. The constant great energy from your fellow staff is one of the main reasons why you always want to come to work, the kids are tied with that. The communication between parents and counselors makes it so much better as well. In addition, division two and all our staff here are astonishing in their drive and ambition to making camp memorable. Our division leaders ben kravchik and oren Kornfeld as well as all the upper staff and Ayzik Shikh are the absolute best in being the greatest support system and bosses. I can’t wait for next year!
I was a camper at kings bay y summer camp since I was in kindergarten and becoming a counselor just made me feel like I could still be apart of the King’s bay y family. I woke up everyday excited to be around energetic campers and supportive supervisors like Tomer and Ayzik. My division leaders Gabe, Katherine, and Katie were also very supportive. All these people guided me through the summer and made me want to come back the next summer.
This is my first year working at KBY as head counselor and it was an incredible experience, one I will not forget. I aspire to work with teens in the future so it was no question that I wanted to be in teen camp. Although I previously worked with children of all ages, I did not know what to expect when working in a camp setting but, it was the best decision I made. The teens faced their fears, went through personal issues & Im thankful to have been by their side. When working with them, you begin to genuinely care about each & every single one of them. Nonetheless, teen trips were fun & my supervisor, Veronika, made sure it ran smoothly. She was always present & knew how to handle every situation, I am sure that without her, teen camp wouldnt have been the same. KBY needs more division leaders like her. 😊
Even though this is my first year working at Kings Bay Y, it already feels like i’ve been there my whole life. I have met the most amazing people there and had the greatest experiences since day one. I first came to KBY Teen Lounge and felt like i’m part of the family right away. The Teen Department has changed my life for the better. I have made so many great friends. The KBY Summer Camp has also been a wonderful experience. The kids put a smile on my face every single day. If you are not part of Kings Bay Y community, you are missing out!!
Kings bay Y is an amazing place for both staff and campers! The environment of the y js always safe and the attitude of everyone is always joyful and upbeat making it a summer that anyone would enjoy! My division leaders Ben and Oren both do a fantastic job of keeping everything organized and smooth. The kings bay Y is definitely an amazing place!
I registered my son for summer camp at the YMCA for 8 weeks on nostrand and so far his and my experience has been fantastic. My son is almost 9 and he is happy at camp. They do multiple activities with the kids. They keep close contact with the parents via an app and send pics throughout the day. Their trips are phenomenal. They go to fort Hamilton twice a week, to Manhattan beach on Fridays and a trip every Thursday. I love the fact that if it rains in Fridays they have trips planned regardless. Last week they went to the U.A to see Minions 3 and the week before to the museum of natural history. Best decision I made as far as keeping my son occupied throughout the summer.I couldnt be more pleased with my sons camp counslors Jason and Nicole. They have been very helpful in making our camp experience a good one. Definitely going to send him in Summer 2018.
Amazing camp tons of exciting activities, kids are always busy with an activity. Very friendly staff also, I have been going to this camp for 9 years as a camper, and all nine years were amazing. This is my first year as a counsler and the staff is very responsible and organized. I definitely recommend this camp, and overall a great camp.
Had my son enroll here two summers. First summer was fine. Second summer, the counselors were horsing around with him and dropped him on his head. Came home with a huge bump on his head. No one called to let us know of this accident. Tried to contact Angela the head counselor/coordinator but she always dodged my calls/ texts/messages.Very very unprofessional. They lucky I didnt sue them. They have too much kids there and too little adult supervision. Mostly its teenagers watching them the whole time. Would not send my kid there if its free now.
This summer I had the pleasure of working at Kings Bay Ys swim camp for the first time. As an asian-american I was not sure if I would fit into this predominantly jewish and white workplace. Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised to be quickly accepted by fellow colleagues. Kings Bay Y staff was selected through a vigorus selection course. As a result, out of the many job applicants that the camp receives, the Y only ensures parents that it only hires the best of the best. The staff at the Y all have personality traits that make then perfect for working with kids of all ages. As a result, we have kids ranging from 5 to 14 and above who are able to enjoy their time at camp. At the camp, the staff are like a small family. At camp, the kids are our highest priority. We do our best to ensure the safety and happiness of the kids. We allow the kids to have ample fun on trips to places such as the Forhamilton Army Base, Funplex, and Amplr Hills Creamery. Nonrtheless, we do enact several simple rules to ensure the wellness of the children. Examples of such rules are buckling up and no standing on buses, no running around without supervision, and no electronics while walking outside. Throughout the summer, the couselors and campers form a special bond and it saddens us everytime a camper has to exit camp early. In swim camp, our main activity, as said in the camps name, is swimming. Everyday the children swim twice. The couselors along with the instructors and lifeguards work together to improve the childrens skills. We test the kids at the beginning of camp and a few weeks later. The general trend is that the kids have improved and are able to be moved to a higher level. During swimming sessions, we have buddy checks signaled by two whistles from the lifeguard(s). Every child is assigned a buddy. When the whistle is blown the buddies are to hold each others hands high in the air. This is for the couselor(s) to ensure the childrens safety by making sure everyone is still there. Our head couselors and supervisor allow us to communicate with the parents very well. This communication plus the couselors and the understanding and cooperativeness of the parents allow for a memorable and enjoyable experience for the kids and engrave in them a desire to come back next year.
Summer camp at the Kings Bay Y is a wonderful experience. You meet new people, whether you’re a staff or a camper, and there are many activities that goes on during the summer. Division leaders such as Oren and Ben, and the directors such as Ayzik and Tomer, are always there for help if there’s any issue. No one should think twice of coming to the Kings Bay Y!
I’m a counselor at the y and I have enjoyed my summer with these wonderful kids. The kids and the camp was the highlight of my summer because i consider them as family. A family vibe was created from the beginning of the summer, thank you especially to Oren, Ben, Ayzik and Tomer who made it possible for this to happen. I would also like to shoutout the teen department for their exclusive vibes and trips and the family that we have created. I have attended the teen department for a while now and I have made many new friends and we have went on amazing trips like fright fest and six flags. On my free time I like to enjoy my time at the y because I feel apart of it.
My son did one session of basketball camp and it was awesome. They went on trips, swimming and to the beach (all included in the camp fee). Camp counselors were very involved and texted me daily pics of activities my son was involved in. Only thing is that its very pricey and it lasted a little over 3 weeks. Wish it was a full 4 weeks. I still highly recommend it.
This was my first year working at kings bay y summer camp. going into the summer i didn’t expect to have much fun because it was still work. but after the first day i realized how amazing of an experience and how amazing of a summer it would be. i made bonds with so many camper and counselors which i didn’t expect. my campers have such an amazing impact on you no matter who they are. not only have i bonded with camper from my group and my division i have also bonded with so many others which i didn’t think would happen. before i started working i was speculating how this summer would go but it turned out to be an amazing one. i would like to thank my division leader oren for doing his job to the best of his ability when he was the only one in charge and would like to thank my assistant division leader ben for stepping up and helping oren making this division an amazing one. they have made this summer amazing and have made sure this division runs smoothly as possible.
My first year here and I want to come back for another. The work environment, the people, and the campers is something I have never experienced before. While there is a hierarchy in the camp, we all treat each other as equal and enjoy each other company. Many of the friends that I made here I can see being my long term friends because I feel so welcomed. Ever since the first meeting I had here I felt like I was one of them already. I’m glad that I spent my summer here and I will most likely spend another thank you!
Kings Bay Y is an amazing place to work. It gave me a good way to start off my resume and get a bit of money before I start school again. I worked on the marketing team during the school year for about 2 hours a day to start off and then went to work as a head counselor for swim camp during summer. I enjoyed working with my coworkers who are really good at talking to strangers and getting them to sign up for summer camp 😂 when i was marketing and loved having my CITs and Assistant Counselors to help me deal with the 40+ kids i had to take care of each work day. Working with kids is really fun because you get to see many different characteristics of the future generation. It was of course tiring like any other job but at the end of the day i missed seeing those bright smiling faces lookin up at me each morning. I got to make friends and create a family with my coworkers and the upperstaff. I unfornately could only work one session of the summer because i had to go on vacation and i really miss working with my family of 40 kids and 20 siblings 😂. It was a fun and interesting job to work over summer and during the school year. It sets up a resume for the future, gives me community service hours for colleges to look at and gives me my own pocket money. It was an amazing experience working with the Y and i look forward to working there in the future.
One of the best environments i’ve ever been in. Everyone is so friendly and welcomes you with a smile always. From my experience in the teen department, I can say there is no better place to hang out with friends and meet new people. Tomer, Veronika, and Oren have grown to become like our older siblings. The camp is phenomenal and there is no other place I would rather work at during the summer.
My 5 y.o. son is having amazing experience at joining Kings Bay Y Chaverim Summer Program. The Program was pricy for us, but it 100% worth money spent.Everyday kids are excited about the activities. Our Councelors Olga and Katie are marvellous. They simply LOVE kids and display professionalism either in happy moments or in troubleshooting. My son is so picky with other people, and he absolutely LOVES his councellors! The Summer World of Kings Bay Y is an amazing trip to abundant childhood with lots of diverse physical exercise, including swimming, archery, sports, ropes and obstacle course. Every week the camp organizes outstanding trips to places like Arcades, Water Parks, Lego Land, boating, Zoo and many more. Dress up days, Performances for the kids, Beach parties with barbeque.Omg! Pity I didnt have such childhood.Another important thing is unity of the Directors and Councelors. Seniors are aware where kids are and what they do, they are extremely flexible for such a big organization and make very right and prompt decisions, for example at adjusting the daily activities depending on the weather. Councelors are very chorismatic, concentrated and shiny with smiles. All updates are displayed in the group chat, the answers are prompt and clear. All mommys concerns are met and solved. No way we quit from that sequence of fun, positive, activities and creativity!Ready for Session Two!
I found out about the Y from my friend Oren kornfeld and he invited me and some other friends to teen lounge. Going to this event was really life changing because I got the opportunity to make new friends and also became closer with many people I thought wouldnt be possible. Im gonna get to the point now. This is my first year working and I couldnt have asked for a better experience because of my divisions leader Michelle and assistant division leader Oren. They inspire me to be great and also how to be respectful in order to be respected. They give us a chance to speak on things that are not right and make decisions as a team and this is the reason they have the title LEADERS because they treat us treat us like adults even tho some of us are a couple years younger but overall I love this camp and I am truly gonna miss my division 2 team ❤️
This was my first summer working at the y, and it was an amazing experience. Division Leaders Katie and Kathy, as well as Camp Directors Tomer and Ayzik handled everything well and made this summer as smooth as possible. I recommend sending your kids here and I promise you it will be a fun summer for them.
Be wary if your child goes to this afterschool program and is a person of color. The staff will make complaints about your child for the slightest things. I I know alot of the staff are people of color but they will cater to other kids more than your child. Shirley Charles who runs the program is the most unprofessional coordinator I have ever heard of but never seen. After two incidents she made the decision through another person named Pythadore to ban my child from the program via an afternoon phone call. No meeting, no face to face interaction at all. Two incidents, incidents that normal 8 years have on the regular. Made several attempts to reach out and havent heard back. Im sure she is probably following orders from hire ups who want to look out for their own.
Working at the Kings Bay Y is a great experience, this isn’t my third summer working here and I’ll definitely be returning next year. The Y is full of creative and interesting staff that make me feel like part of the family. The Y is like a second home and I’m glad to have spent my summer here.
Michelle Vilenchik had her work cut out for her as it was her first year as a Division Leader for KBY Summer Camp. She learns everyday what she can do to improve as a division leader. Michelle gives credit where credit is due and gives the appropriate amount of repercussions if need be. She is very considerate of others ideas and opinions but knows when its time to lay down the law. Oren Kornfeld is another division leader who stepped up to the plate this year. He knows when to be friendly and when to be the boss even though he is younger than some of the staff below him. Oren can be depended on when you need someone to confide in personally as well as need workplace related advice.
Its a good summer camp...I personally went there for 3 or 4 years and maybe going again this year as a volunteer or camper for one session. Their prices are acceptable in my perspective. They treat everyone as kindly as possible and do not allow any bad language, inappropriate comments, or insults, and they make sure everyone is safe and has a good time!
My son attends several programs at this Y;1) After school: We have tried Chaverim and Rising Starts Program for 2nd grade. They are not doing exactly what they promise in the prospectus/advertisement for the program. Absolutely no home work assistance. I have tried to talk to several people during the first month of the program regarding doing the H/W. They would do it the next day and then it stopped again. So, for H/W I would give ZERO starts. The prospectus have listed a lot of fun would be activies, but only a fraction of those activities are actually provided to children. Cooking class sounded like a lot of fun and my son was actually looking forward to it, but was provided only once a month. The overall rating of three (3) stars resulted due to the politeness of the staff, even though very unresponsive and lacking feedback at times.2) Swimming Classes: Just ok. Absolutely no feedback regarding the progress of the child, so that I have no clear idea as to how he is doing. Again, the result of poor feedback and communication.I am planning to enroll my son in the summer camp program and, based on my experience with the organization so far, am not expecting a rich rewarding experience. It is just so close to my residence. The Organization definitely would benefit from providing training to their staff on improving communication with parents (i.e. paying customers) and providing more feedback regarding status, progress, some other sort of evaluation benchmarks when it comes to children in various programs.I dont think that they will do anything about suggested imorivements though, considering that pool & aquatics is only 7% of their total revenue, after school program is only about 12% of total revenue, and camp program is about 10% of their total revenue source (according to their last tax return which is publically available information).
My kids go for swimming pool. Class last only for 45 minutes. Yet it starts a couple of minutes later and finishes 4-5 minutes earlier!! This is not fair. I pay $25 per one class, per each child. However, their representative made an effort to improve the system. Nowadays classes start and finish on time. Im satisfied
This was the worst experience I have ever had. I went to kings bay Y 2 days earlier and asked them if they were doing day passes and the person at the desk said they do for $10 and I said I will come back tonight which I did. I go back and the person at the counter wasnt the same anymore. The person at the desk said they dont do passes anymore. Literally in 1 day they removed day passes. And I asked them how do I get in and they said I should get a membership and I would have to pay for 3 months in advance. Which was around $70. I was not gonna do that when I was only go there for 1 day. Then the person also told me that they had covid restrictions. He told me that we only let people with memberships go in. He never said anything about the capacity. He LITERALLY SAID THAT IF YOU HAVE A MEMBERSHIP you dont have covid. I just couldnt stop laughing. Well it looks like we found the cure to covid. ITS A KINGS BAY Y MEMBERSHIP LOL 🤣.
Can you stop lying to people on Facebook of how great of a camp you are you are really not so just stop. I was a camper and had the worst experience off my life. There were terrible food that caused me to throw up like a lot of times and spoiled milk. Rude counselors that force you to do things that you are uncomfortable with. I would it them 0 STARS. U ARE THE WORST CAMP IN BROOKLYN!
This is my first year working as a councilor and honestly I had the best experience hereThe councilors here were so nice and sweet here and same goes to the children, we had lots of fun times here thank you to our division leaders Michelle and Oren, its an amazing place to spend your summer here!!!

2017-08-10My first summer working here at Kings Bay Y, has been an absolutely amazing experience. Getting to know all the counselors and especially the campers has been an interesting time, even considering some of the troubles that have been going on. My Division 2 leaders, Michelle and Oren have been doing an amazing job keeping our division together. Though there have been some bumps in the road, the actual experience and time at camp has been really fun. I got to know a lot of the campers and we get along really well. The parents of the campers have also been cooperating very well so when all the parts of the camp work well, then the whole camp works well. The best part of it is, that when I tell my campers I will see them next year their faces light up and that warms my heart. Kings Bay Y is a great camp to join, and it would definitely be really amazing to meet more kids next year and see old faces!💫

2018-08-15Kings Bay Y is an amazing place to work at. My job as a counselor has been an absolutely remarkable experience. I love working with kids and my fellow staff are the best. My division leaders Katie and Kathy, as well as camp directors Tomer and Ayzik have kept the camp in amazing shape all summer and they made sure that each and every kid is having a meaningful and unforgettable summer. I definitely recommend the Kings Bay Y camp over any other because there is no such camp that can give campers more opportunities, friendships for a lifetime, and memories that will live on forever!

2018-08-16I worked here as a Head counselor and transitioned into an assistant supervisor. Everyone was very welcoming and I absolutely loved the kids. There were always activities for the campers to engage in, at kings bay and at Fort Hamilton army base. The kids always had smiles on their faces and had fun the entire summer! Definitely one of the best camps.

2017-08-09As a teen of 15 years old Ive had the immense pleasure of working at Kings Bay Y swim summer camp for the past 2 years, and I havent even once considered stepping out of swim camp and working somewhere else. Being a member of this team has been and will be a great experience, the staff are almost like one small family, we work extremely well together and have various ways of communicating with eachother throughout the work day, to insure everything is going to plan. But its not only the staff that are close to one another, the supervisor of swim camp and her head counselors, work tirelessly to establish good communications with parents and are always available if a parent or guardian of a child has an issue. Parents of children are informed of what their kids are doing throughout the day and accurate weekly schedules are sent out to all parents, all via a free and highly effective app called group-me. Although I may say this with a bit of bias, I personally know*, that Kings Bay Y hires only the best of the many applicants they receive, all counselors have fantastic personal traits making them perfect for working with kids, and most of us even enjoy being around the children (at least I know I do😊). Our job isnt to ruin and strictly dictate the summer of our campers, our job is to make sure the kids have ample fun but still follow simple rules in order to keep all of them safe, physically and emotionally, and this is exactly what we do. In swim camp the campers and their counselors build bonds, and although some campers might choose favorites, in the eyes of the counselors the children are all the top priority throughout the day. The hardest part of the day is probably in the pool, and that comes with no surprise, the pool is the most dangerous part of camp and with so many kids we have to keep them safe, all the meanwhile making sure they learn and improve. With the combined work of the counselors and the swim instructors, all campers eventually make progress, and no matter what level of swimmer they are, we make sure to work on new skills every week. Putting all this and the patience of parents together creates an excellent experience for the campers, peace of mind for the parents, and a family that none of us swim counselors want to leave. Furthermore our supervisor Michelle Fogel, who has 4 years of experience behind her effectively works with us, the counselors, to ensure everything runs smoothly. When matters become too complicated, its easy to say Michelle offers or is the reliable solution to any problems, ranging from schedule mishaps, to behavioral issues. For me its very hard to imagine how life would be in swim camp if Michelle wasnt there to coordinate us.

2017-07-19This is my daughters 1st year with Kings Bay Y summer camp. She attends the specialty Swim Camp. Since she attended a different camp for 6 years prior so I really have something to compare it to.First the daily pick-up and drop-off, that was my biggest issue because I have to be at work by a certain time. Angela, Parent Liaison / Youth Services Director, said that will not be a problem and she did not lie. The bus is there every morning at the right time. There is constant communication with the bus counselors through the Group Me app so that in case there are issues parents/caretakers know right away.At the old camp my daughter complained about the food every day, I have not heard one complaint yet, and they also serve breakfast.Shannon, my daughters head counselor is extremely responsive either via text or Group me. I can tell that she really has the kids best interest at heart. The swim instruction is on point, it is a very intense program where the kids have instruction between 1 and 2 hours per day (depending on the childs level of swim) Michelle the division leader is also very responsive and communicative. My daughter went from the intermediate level to advanced in just a few weeks. The camp also has an off-site facility at the Fort Hamilton Army Base. that facility has everything from pools to bowling. The kids really enjoy it. Once a week there is a trip, all trips are on air-conditioned buses (we all know how important that is in the summer months). There are updates about your children through out the day (test, video, pictures) so that you kind of know what they are up to.All in all great 1st experience. I would recommend this camp to any parent who needs a recommendation.

2018-08-16Kings Bay Y is a one of a kind camp. They make you feel apart of their great family and always have fun activities for the kids to keep them interested all the time. The staff there are so nice and really help out in any way possible. Their are always good vibes around camp and it just makes camp so interesting. The division leaders: Oren and Ben, are amazing and ensure camp is running smoothly and the kids are safe within their care. I highly recommend sending your child to the kings bay y summer camp! They will have a blast there!

2018-08-16This camp brought together kids and counselors and turned them into a family. From upper management to division leaders, they made my job as a head counselor a lot easier. I came in the third week, but my division leaders Ben and Oren helped me out whenever I needed a pointer and the other counselors took me in as their own. I would recommend this camp to anyone, as the activities mixed with a family culture makes this camp very unique.

2015-11-16Our daughter was attending summer camp in Kings Bay Y for the first time this year and we are extremely happy! This is our very first experience with summer camps and of course as parents we worried a lot. But Kings Bay Y has amazing communication with parents. I am getting few updates from the counselor every day plus pictures! There is no room to worry. Another great thing is that Kings Bay Y is doing every effort to make sure kids are having the best experience possible and they always have a plan B. For example today they were supposed to spend most of the day outside in the Army Base campus in Bay Ridge, but the weather is bad and it might rain. So they are changing the plan and taking kids to Museum of Natural History! Its just a little example, but isnt it amazing? Another thing that we are very happy with is the quality of lunches. So far we didnt get even a single complain about the food from our child. Warm and friendly staff, small groups, huge variety of activities and trips. I cant recommend this camp enough!

2018-08-15This is my first summer working at the Kings Bay Y and it was a blast. Both Ben and Oren were two of the best division leaders in the camp. They treated all of their staff well and with care. The kids were treated well and had fun on many of the trips we went on. During the year, however, the Y has an amazing Teen Department, where Tomer, Oren, and Veronika plan events and create Teen Lounges for teens in high wchool to hang out at. They are amazing and fun to attend. Overall, the Kings Bay Y is like my second home, as I feel like I am always there for both work and leisure.

2018-08-14This is my second year working as a summer camp counselor at kings bay y, and let me tell you the experience gets better each successive year. The amount of positive energy from the counselors and all the smiles on the campers faces is what makes attending kings bay y summer camp so special. Specifically, the division 2 leaders Oren Kornfeld and Benjamin Kravchik constantly make sure camp is running as smoothly as possible, ensuring that the kids have the best possible time at camp. I highly recommend this camp for anyone seeking to send their child to a well-rounded summer camp to have a perfect summer.
