Usually i would rate this place 5 stars, but today when i received my order i didnt get the amount of spicy mayo i ordered. I called them to let them know, and they tell me half of what i originally ordered is enough to much mayo no good for you,If you want you want more mayo Ill give you next time. Usually i get 7+ sushi rolls with multiple people eating I am an adult and your not my parents who are you to tell me how i should eat.
Horrible customer service. Lady picked up, took my order and CC info, asked for a tip, and then proceeded to tell me to give then 20 minutes because we are no open yet. I called at 11:40, where their website states they open at 11:30...plus, she picked up the phone. Took an hour for food to arrive and it was not good - the order was completely wrong and had to throw it away. Also, she picked up my phone call after I waited for 40 minutes, and then did not pick up any calls afterwards when I wanted to cancel it.
Ive been here a number of times, and have always, always enjoyed the food, and atmosphere.Well went there today, but was maybe 5 minutes early. No one was there, I kept saying hello, but to no response. Finally a cook came out and said they will open in 15 minutes, so I said Ill wait. Seemed like it wasnt a problem because he never said anything. Waitress or manager came in and abruptly said to come back in 15 minutes as they have to clean. So I asked to use the restroom, but was informed by the same waitress/manager that they had to clean it. Iv been in it before, never been dirty, but left and decided to come back. Well came back and ordered the bento box, big mistake, by the time I got home my stomach was so upset I barely made it to the bathroom. While on the bus ride home, I felt nauseous, but didnt think much of it. But with the waitress attitude which was very aloof and uncaring and not letting me use the, I certainly had enough hints, NEVER AGAIN, GOOD RIDDANCE Kitaro!!
Pretty good sushi with cool lunch special pricesOne lady is very polite and the other one is very rudeI called for delivery and I was trying to decide if I wanted anything else and she tells me “speed up , speed up, I got other things to do”Made me almost not want to order anymore ...I hope they understand that without customers they wouldn’t have no business .And I am a regular customer .Maybe she had a bad day but that still is no reason to be rude for someone who is trying to pay for your services....
Kitaro was delicious! They have a great selection of rolls, both traditional and specialty. Service was prompt and courteous. It was right in the neighborhood we were staying and is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but in the best way. The restaurant was quiet and a little dark, but it felt cozy and it was nice to finally eat someplace where it wasnt uncomfortably busy.
Kitaro Sushi is my go to every day place. Great quality and great lunch specials that go until 5pm. They also have a number of fairly unique items which I love like rolls with mango in them and tuna pizza (sounds weird but its good). If you are looking for a casual and delicious local sushi spot, this is definitely one of the best.
Extremely rude staff. They act as if they are doing you a favor by serving you or taking your order. Forget delivery service-their delivery person is the rudest person out of all of them. The food is average at best. Tastes like. Supermarket premade sushi. Just avoid it. Several better options in the neighborhood.
Good food but the service is BAD, the waitress barely said hi. I gave her my order and she rudely asked me salad or miso soup. She sort of slammed the receipt on the counter for me to sign. I decided not to tip. It got worse, she made me wait nearly 20 minutes without offering me a glass of water, I didnt even want to ask at this point. As my order finally arrived she just dropped the bag in front of me. Without even a glance in my direction, I told her good bye and no answer. The bento box was a delight, its a shame for the service though. I understand you have problems maam, we all do, but please dont take it on the customers!!!
I was a regular client at kitaro for over six years. I ate there at least twice a week , some weeks every day.Today I went there I ordered food at around 4.30 pm. The sushi man as always nice and friendly. The waitress very rude. The restaurant was empty and she was screaming to someone over the phone by the back table. It was so loud and angry !!! It did not happen the first time. I came to eat there in piece so I asked her if she can lower the volume of her voice because it is really disturbing and not inviting. For which she answer if you dont like it you can leave outside !! Well what did I do? I asked the man not to make my food. I walked out and I will never go back.Food ok. Some of the stuff incredibly rude and obnoxious. Do nott recommend.
A solid mid-scale sushi place, they have great takeout options and a lot of house rolls. I was tempted to give it four stars because the service in the restaurant can be patchy, but theyre my favorite place to order from, and as long as you accept that its a neighborhood joint rather than a fancy restaurant when eating in, the good food and reasonable prices are worth a little patience.
I love this place! The staff is friendly and the food is great. My favorite dish has got to be their chirashi. I highly recommend their special rolls and if you are feeling indulgent, their fatty tuna. The fatty tuna toro just melts in your mouth. Just absolutely divine.
Japanese restaurant run by Chinese people. The quality of food is poor. The seaweed was stale and the California roll was just fake crab and avocado with stale seaweed. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was not seared or anything. Terrible food and reviews does not warrant a four star rating. More like a two 🌟. Terrible experience. Not recommended.
Nothing extraordinary about it except for maybe the number of special roll options available, but quality and prices are okay and the service is friendly. Overall, its a fine neighborhood sushi shop. Note: The large number of special roll options are presented across several separate menus which can be overwhelming at first.
I go there with my girlfriend every week. I tell her this is New York City and theres plenty of options everywhere and she demands we go there. Fellas, you know its a good idea to keep your woman happy. Am I right? This applies to my fellas on fellas and ladies on ladies too. Everyone loves sushi and if you do, give this place a chance. Its good!
Went here for lunch. The sushi was fresh and reasonably sized. The rice was cooked properly, not too sweet, and not mushy. They didnt have any toro so I tried salmon belly (Herasu), it was delicious! The pork katsu was also really good. It had a nice honey mustard like sauce.
The sushi and sashimi are very good, fresh and the pieces are cut very generously. This is a treasure so far undiscovered by Zagats. The fish selection is limited, but this is the best Ive had so far on the Upper West Side, other than Gari which is twice as expensive. Enjoy
They have a wonderful seafood soup that I always eat when I have l lunch there. I used to live around the corner on 85th St., and I spent a lot of time there doing work after I ate. It was my home away from home. Now, I live in Ossining, and I go to Kitaro for lunch whenever I come into the city.
The food is so good, but sooooo overpriced. The staff were also very impatient and busy like they run around carrying platters of sushi and eventually they’re gonna trip and fall and die, but I guess that’s how they make their food so good and so fast, but still… it’s a safety hazard
Have not been to restaurant but have ordered chicken terayaki it was like rubber. The next time I called they hung up on me. Then the nexr time the chicken was good. Im thinkin a different cook. On 4/15/17 called and first they tell you to hold on then they tell me to call back. Horrible customer service.
Awful absolutely awful I went for years to this restaurant and up until recently it was great not they say I cant take certain items to go anymore this has always been a busy spot and I dont have time to sit and wait 75% of the time I take to go and now this is no longer an option part of me has officially died and I will never return to this place I will forever miss cheese bacon

2022-04-23Great place for rolls in UWS. Fish is fresh, rice perfectly cooked and it’s not expansive. The place itself is not pretty or cozy but definitely a go to for a few rolls. Their launch special is also worth a lot :)

2022-02-24My lackluster $15 specialty roll was missing ingredients, the white tuna on top was mush, the wasabi had a dark ring on the bottom, and the whole thing tasted like old chapstick. The green iced tea was warm water with matcha powder and a few cubes of ice thrown in.

2022-04-11I come here often with family and friends. This is also my go-to spot to order from for parties. The restaurant serves flavorful, unique dishes and the rolls are fairly priced.

2022-05-26The first time I’ve ever been served sushi that the fish is warm. When I tried to explain to the server she said she only works here part time and her boss wasn’t here to correct. The boss was too busy in Long Island she stated.Terrible service and food.

2022-04-11A hidden gem in the upper west side. Consistently delicious food and quick delivery. Also, lovely indoor dining experience: dim lighting and great service! Highly recommend!

2022-05-28Wonderful people, wonderful sushi! They were willing to accommodate us as we only had a short time to eat so we could make it to a show. They were very understanding and got our delicious sushi out very fast.

2022-05-27Sushi was WARM. Then they charged me twice, said the fixed the additional charge. But infact, they never did. I wont be going back, the poor and questionable quality of the fish they used was enough.

2022-01-01Ordered box C and the perfect roll for delivery.Pros - Overall food very tasty and good portions,Perfect roll was delicious. Food arrived very quicklyCons- got charged $3 for subs (shumai for gyoza) - it seems my allergy comes at premium, no restaurant ever charged me extra for this. Overall happy with the order.

2021-12-08Delicious and consistent quality in their sushi. They offer a lunch special with three sushi maki rolls and soup for $15 including some premium roll options! They offer dine-in, although I have only done pick up and the staff is always friendly during my wait.
