SUCH a cute place ! These kitties are obviously loved to the max and are so comfortable and happy- service and friendliness was amazing, Shaquana gave an awesome drink recommendation for my mood and the cattery guides Amelia and Barbara were so enthusiastic and passionate about the kitties life and well being. Will definitely visit the next time I’m in NYC!
This place is perfect. The cafe has amazing coffee and tea, and the Cattery is the best place to hang out for any cat lover. The kitties are SO sweet. So many are playful and pettable. Really such a fun experience. I make sure I stop in whenever Im in NYC.Literally the only negative is that I cant take every single cat home with me.
While Koneko as a concept is nice, having lived with cats for my whole life, the Konekos cats seem overly stimulated and exhausted from contact. Looking at the crowd during my visit, its city people and tourists that approach cats like dogs, so maybe thats understandable. Still, the cats here all showed reflexes to shy away from the crowd when touched, swat at hands or even when thrown things at. Nonetheless, the attendees seem to think this is normal behavior and leave happy. That explains the contrast between my experience here as a decidedly cat person being a little worried about how they often refrain from human contact, and the sky-high reviews here on Maps.I dont mean to disrespect the care the employees here surely bring to the cats. But there needs to be less people around, or more cats to spread out the attending crowd.
The place is a cat heaven! I love the place so much! The cats are so cute and Wonderful, the staff are really nice too.I really fell for a black cat named Seitan, the food is also great, I had the okonomiyaki (it was really good) and matcha latte while my friend got the same drink and peanut butter miso cookie which is just chewy and delicious!
I went here not so long ago and I didn’t know you had to make reservations to be able to see the cats, but ig it was my fault for not checking and it’s 20$ an hour. So I ended up not seeing the cats because they were full until 6pm and I came early at about 2pm. I came here with two other people and we just decided to sit and try their food but tbh it was pretty bad. My friend and I ordered a bread with spinach but it was kinda sour. Then my sister ordered a chai latte I believe and she said it tasted spicy? yeah lol and then I ordered a strawberry matcha and it was pretty flavorless. We also ate some dumplings and cake. The dumplings were okay and the cake was sort of bland and not as good as I expected. The cafe was also very full at that time and the baristas were very busy and ignored my sister when she tried to order and went on to another customer even though we didn’t finish ordering. After all we decided not to come back again after spending a lot on the bad food.
I didnt get the food here but it smelled delightful. This establishment has clean bathrooms for you to use but only one per person the cats are incredibly sweet but I recommend letting your kids know to be extra careful as cats in general arent good with screaming kids like the last time I went. They were still sweet though even when they were a bit skittish. I recommend wearing socks since you take off your shoes before going in. They have sandals if you dont have socks. 3 areas total for cats to lounge in although the patio I believe it was called closes when it gets too chilly for the cats. It was a great experience cant wait to go again!
My daughter and I visited as part of her Make a Wish trip. She had an amazing time! All week its all she talked about. Adorable, friendly cats, cozy, modern Cafe. Very sweet and helpful staff. The cats are adoptable and if we werent from out of state, wed have adopted a black and white cat named Lunchbox!
A great experience for those looking to spend time with about 20 cats up for adoption before picking a drink and item for lunch. The brunch was a great and fairly priced. The cats were all types of characters. Go before the 1pm slot in my opinion as they were a bit tired out.
The cats were adorable! There were three floors and it was really nice to just chill there for an hour. Koneko seems like they care a lot about their cats (which is very much appreciated) and the staff were all very friendly! Had an amazing time there with my friends.
CAT CAFE!A cafe and also a cat adoption centre. To play with the cats, its $20 an hour. Its located behind a glass mirror at the end of the cafe.Staff are just AMAZING PEOPLE! Super sweet and friendly and you can feel their love for the cats. Before entering, they will brief you on all the protocols. Everyone was wearing a mask and the place is spotless!Did not order any food as we came after dinner but the cakes on display looks amazing! If you love the cats, you can fill up an adoption form after. The staff are a wealth of knowledge if you have any questions. If you wanna adopt or just want to play with adorable friendly cats, this is the place for you!
Let me talk about the food before i talk about the cats. The food and the drink in the cafe is expensive for no reason and the bake goods taste horrible. like so horrible and its not even worth it. you have to reserve if you want to play with the cats. Theres three floor levels that the cats and people have access to. Some cats are lazy while the other ones are playful. picking the cat up is prohibited, wearing shoes is prohibited (they provide you w inside slippers) and you can take pics and videos but no flash. Dont stress them out, just watch them from nearby and let them smell you first before you pat them. they love their toys! visiting this cafe was worth it.
Came here at 12pm on a Wednesday and it was too crowded for the amount of cats. We were easily 15-20 people in the cattery and only about 8 exhausted and overworked cats, which understandably were overwhelmed and did not wish to be pet. Really broke my heart, because last time we came 3 years ago, there were much more cats, and they appeared more happy and independent.
I got the iced strawberry match with oatmilk and this alone is a reason to come back when Im in the city. The cat entrance fee is a little steep, I understand the reasoning but still seems a bit much to me. Excited to come back and hangout with them sometime I can commit a full hour.
If you love cats and havent been to this place your missing out. The cats are so sweet and filled with personality. Everywhere you look there is something related to cats 🐈 which is such a treat. Will definitely be coming back sooner then later. Thanks for hosting me and my family
Went for Friday brunch at 1! Busy in the cafe but not bad in the cat areas. So many cute wonderful cats! Food was great—our drinks were excellent and the okonomiyaki was so good. (Chai was perfect, whoever said it was “too spicy” has never had good chai!) Cats were a little sleepy but that’s not on the cafe; cats sleep 14+ hours a day. :P
The atmosphere in here was nice and relaxing to enjoy with the wide variety of adoptable cats! I had a matcha latte and it was nice to be able to bring in while you played. I enjoyed seeing the outdoor patio where a lot of cats were sunbathing or sleeping. Overall i had a very nice experience and would go back again!
Sososo fun and will definitely go back!! The cats are very sweet and peaceful and you can tell they are treated with extreme care and love. The workers were super friendly and we had some great conversations with Veronica and Shaquana. Do yourselves a favor and go there!
Ya its cats, you pay 20 dollars per person to play with cats. You cant take photos, pick them up or touch them if theyre on something high. I thought the 20 covered a drink and a food item but thats a more expensive option. Its 20 dollars to play with cats. If that sounds good to you then you wont be dissapointed
Ahhhhh! One of my absolute favorite places in the city. Sitting there, petting soft cats, drinking iced matcha, and listening to jazz music…it was perfection. I was super irritable going into the cafe and after an hour left feeling relaxed. And the staff- I think their names were Veronica and Shaquana- were unbelievably friendly. Would totally recommend to anyone, ever.
Really nice space with two rooms and an outside area for the cats to play and relax in the sun. Chill kitties and friendly staff. It took me about 30 minutes but it seems I made a friend. Its very important to remember that cats are independent creatures with their own wants and needs, they dont know you paid money and they are just living their lives, not being there to entertain you. Dont impose yourself on them and watch their behaviour; you can tell when a cat is playful or friendly.P.S. the cats caretaker told us that 6 animals were adopted the previous week, which is amazing news!
I went in here as my birthday gift since I love cats, but the cafe for my taste was a little too expensive and even to go and see the cats was pretty expensive as well. 20/hr which isn’t a reasonable price when the cats would most likely just be asleep or be with their caretakers half the time. Felt like they were just hogging them to themselves which was annoying since we paid to go and pet and play with them. There was a lot of rules as of going in where we can’t pick them up etcetc which is understandable but it was frustrating when half the time the caretakers would just sit there looking at us in silence and just playing with the cats themselves. It was pretty awkward. Anyway, in terms of food it was good but it was too small and pretty expensive. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone wanting to go and see cats/or if they love them as much as I do. They’re only getting 3 stars because I love cats, my bf took me here as a gift, and the food was good. Other than that, everything was eh. The employees seem to not do anything in the cat section but just talk to each other or be on their phones or just hog the cats to themselves lol.
Very lovely place, we got the brunch deal which came with a breakfast item and non-alcoholic drink plus a one hour reservation with the cats. There were several cats, all well behaved and friendly. The two workers were very nice and answered all our questions. I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone.
I didnt get any consumables, and the entry fee for the cat room seems steep ($20 per person--regardless of age or time spent), but the look on my daughters face was worth it. Food and drink are allowed in the cat rooms, and they offer adoption at a reasonable fee ($125). All cats are spayed/neutered, and have had all of their shots.
This place has amazing coffee and the barista was super friendly. The cats are sooooo adorable and friendly, and they each have their own little personalities. Theres several rooms to roam, including an outdoor space. There are also tunnels through the walls and floors so the cats can move around uninterrupted. Its so beautiful and a necessary visit for any cat lover.
I wanted to snuggle some cats, so dragged my husband to Koneko... And he loved it, even though hes a biiig dog person. When you enter Koneko, you can order at the bar from the menu and based on how busy the place is, you can wait for your order or you can go inside the area with cats and they will let you know, when your order is ready. The entrance fee was around $12 per person for an hour and the cat area is divided into three rooms, one is outside area, thats closed during winter. When you enter, you get stamp on your hand and slippers, you can also bring along your drink. Theres plenty of cat toys and cats to play with, some more shy that others, so you have to be patient. The lady taking care of the cats was veeery talkative, which is not a bad thing when you want to get some info, but we just wanted to relax in company of those fluffy beans.
This place is awesome! Love the cute cats you can adopt. The cats are friendly and cute and super adorable! This place really loves cats and they take care of them so well. The cafe is clean. Great food too. You can eat it in or outside the cat petting area. This is a great place to check out in the LES area
Koneko is the place to be if you like cats. A rainy day in NYC? Go here. You can see and feel that the people working there love the cats. They keep an eye on them and know everything about them. Such a lovely place for the cats to hang out. Lots of great sleeping spots, but also plenty of toys to play with. Also important, the food is great! Try the gyoza! Absolutely amazing!
Very well run and well maintained cat cafe. Its super cute, minimalistic decor but chic. The entry fee is a bit steep I have to admit - $20, but it does go to a good cause. The food is not bad; between my friend and I, we had the okonomiyaki 👍🏼, waffle with fruit 👍🏼, udon 👎🏼 (not enough protein or toppings on it... basically noodles and broth, expected more), matcha latte 👍🏼 If you want to get something to eat I recommend the okonomiyaki the most out of all the choices I had - pretty tasty and relatively filling. The cats are great of course and you can tell that the staff really care about them! I would not recommend this spot for kids unless your kids are acclimated to handling cats/animals gently. Also at the reviews rating it lowly because you have to pay to play with the cats, what do you expect? To play with them for free? LOL. If it was free this place would not be able to stay open, plus this is NYC - nothing is free lmao. Anyways, worth checking out and the money goes to a good cause! The staff are very friendly too!
Visited here on a whim during a day trip to NYC and absolutely loved it. I was a bit skeptical at first because I was surprised when the cafe was technically separate from the cat area, but that actually made it even more enjoyable! The cat area was very relaxed, with comfortable furniture and bean bag chairs to sit on while playing with with the kitties. The staff was extremely friendly and really knew the cats - each of them has a backstory/personality that the staff explains to you upon entrance! The cats have a lot of space to hang out in and can move from room to room; theres even a private room for them to go into if theyre feeling like theyve had too much interaction. Its also very clean and tidy - you wear your socks or they offer you slippers while youre inside the cat area to decrease any dirt coming in from outside and they also have you sanitize your hands when you go in. I would definitely visit here again!
I and a friend made reservations for 8 pm on a Friday night. We were pretty lucky because the cats started becoming more active shortly after we arrived. There are a few young cats who are mildly playful, but otherwise most of these cats seem indifferent to visitors. They are very much attached to their caretakers and it gets frustrating especially when they move between floors and the cats follow. Ive been to one other cat cafe and the cats there were generally very young and therefore more energetic and engaged. Their diverse selection of pastries looked very appetizing, though I didnt get to try any.
A little pricey, but the payment goes towards the care of the cats. I went on a day when one free drink was included with the cat visit, so that was very nice! They had sake, wine, and I think beer as well. The cats were all in great health and the facilities were very clean. I have a slight cat allergy and didnt have any problems while visiting. Cats are adoptable and the people working there are wonderful and very willing to answer questions and provide information. I hope to be able to come back again!
You went to Clinton Street Bakery but theres an hour to hour and half wait?! Now youre looking for a cafe to chill in. This is the place to check into. Forget the hip looking cafe across the street- its crowded, youll be hard pressed to find seats, and worst of all its jot and suffocating. Koneko is run by very chill friendly people, they have an excellent choice of coffee/tea/drinks, and if youre up for it, soothe yourself in the cat area in the back (but it costs $20/person per hour).
The cats here were extremely cute, soft, and clean. This cafe is well kept and if you don’t enjoy dining with cats that’s okay as they are kept in a different section from the cafe itself. The workers are very nice to their customers (and to the cats). The food served here was beyond my expectations and I will say personally that it is worth every penny.Come here with friends or family if you like a quiet spot, you will have lot of fun here. Trust me.Extra note: I personally like how they allow the cats to be adopted to help them find a forever home and it’s all the more reason to come here and support Koneko cafe.
The kittens were very well maintained and the caretaker was vigilant to make sure the kittens were played with safely. They were shy little guys, but so very sweet; it was difficult to leave without taking one home. All food and drinks purchased in the coffee shop area are able to be brought in to the “cattery.” We went on a Friday when they have a special that comes with a complementary wine, sake, or beer with a one hour reservation.
It was a lovely experience but it was not all that enjoyable the fact that there was a group of photographers making a ruckus. Not only did I feel that they were a pitch too loud with the kittens and cats around, but they took half of our time away with the cats. Snatching the kittens away, with promise of returning it to us after theyve taken their photos and videos. Koneko shouldve blocked off the time if they knew such an event was going to take place. Overall wouldve been a 5 star experience.
Its very quiet and peaceful here, and you have a lot of cats to play and hang out with. Its nice if you like cats, especially if you are looking to adopt one, because all of the cats are adoptable. They offer good drinks too, but you cant bring food into the cafe. You can bring drinks though. I like this place a lot.
I went here for my birthday. I was really looking forward to playing with the cats. We booked our appointment for 1 pm, and the cafe is open until 8 pm. When we arrived the cafe was extremely overcrowded and so was the cattery. Not only so, but all the cats seemed exhausted and overworked. Every single cat but 1 was sleeping when we arrived and left, and not one of them wanted to voluntarily interact with a human. Mind you, this place was open for cattery appointments until 8 pm. If others have had better experiences, im happy for them but mine was a huge dissapointment. I will not be returning.
I went with friends to see the cats that you can play with or adopt. We made appointment on line, if you stop without appointment the wait can be long or they cannot fit you in. Weekend are busy. The price was 20 dollars a person. Great experience to see cat closed to adopted or just have fun. We bought the food item we bought at the Cafe in with us. NO OUTSIDE FOOD. We had a great time.
Very cute cafe! All the cats are lovely kittens looking to be adopted; the croissants here were delicious. All the staff were super gracious and friendly; the only thing Id say is its kind of expensive (both menu and visiting the cats) and it isnt that big of a menu but since they take such good care of the cats Im sure the money is put to good use.
Love the idea of being able to play with the cats and adopt them. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable. Facilities are clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend visiting if you love cats! I guess the only gripe is having to spend 20 bucks just to play with them. Understand it’s a cost needed to keep the lights on but seems a little steep
The place was too big for how many cats they had. They really didn’t have comfortable places to sit. Also, I wish we had more desirable toys for them to play with and more (much more) cats. We also wish the employees had introduced us to the cats as we cousin to pick them up. It was nice but wasn’t enough to make us adopt a cat or come back which clearly is the e e goal.
On leap day, I wanted to do something special, so I went to spend time with cats. Koneko café has beautiful cats and kittens, and the place has comfortable seatings while we pet the cats. I really liked it better than Meow Parlor, because Meow Parlor had only low seatings, which were uncomfortable to me.The reason I gave 4 stars is that, later, I bought a slice of carrot cake for $9.5, and after one bite, I returned it to the server because it had too much cinnamon (should be labelled cinnamon bread, not carrot cake). I expected some kind of compensation. Instead, the server apologized that I didnt like it and my $9.5 was spent on nothing there. I was disappointed but didnt want to fuss about it.The latté, though, was very delicious. The whole atmosphere is very nice, so I do recommend it.
Went with my two kids. Place completely quiet. Found upon arrival you need to pay $20/person to enter the room with the cats. Also they need to be accompanied by an adult, so, another $20 for my wife or I. Decided that $60 to pat a cat wasnt worth it. Went to the other cat cafe just a few blocks away instead.
I was very excited about visiting this place after I saw an episode of “My cat from Hell”, and today, I must say it was really disappointing. After expending almost 40 bucks in coffee and pastries for 2, a rude lady told me that to visit the kitties I should have an appointment and must pay a $20 fee and limited to one hour. Visiting this place was one of my reasons for flying to NY, and I left very disappointed.Burnt coffee, good pastries, $20 extra each and appointment needed to hangout with the kitties 👎🏻😿😾
Wonderful Japanese Cat Cafe with many small tables and a cat sanctuary at the back. The matcha latte was very good and the spicy edamame was a wonderful pairing. There were souvenirs available for purchase besides the small menu. The cat experience was $20 per hour but the employees allowed my daughter extra time as they were not busy at the time we went. Would recommend the food and the experience!
Lovely cat Cafe! Really cool space and really well run. The kitties are so sweet. When they had events I would go all the time. Drang Bingo, valentines day dinner, and a gay cat wedding. The last one ended up being an episode of Cake Boss which was neat I guess! But anyways 10 of out 10. Would recommend to any cat lover.
Had the best time today at Koneko! They were good about rescheduling my previous booking and I was happy to make it today. Within minutes of sitting down, the sweetest kitty had jumped in my lap. Felt ver safe there, there’s an outdoor as well as several indoor areas where you can interact with the cats. Love you Hector, my orange boy 💕
I came with a friend today from 4 to 5 pm, there was 12 people in the room and only 6 cats asleep. We spent a very strange, boring hour. We were uncomfortable because we didnt know what to do, we didnt dare to bother the sleeping cats. Some of them even looked unhealthy. We also saw a flea. We left before the end of our session, disappointed, frustrated and the wallet was lighter! Dont go there, you can spend 20$ per hour to pet cats elsewhere.
Male barista w/glasses was rude. Acted as if it was a bother to serve us. Was very unpleasant. I would understand if it was really busy but we were the only people there. My friend’s iced tea came out so late it was served to us while we were in the cat rooms. Vibe was off too, you can tell these cats are way overstimulated with the volume of people that they see and we just left feeling bad.
An incredible disappointment. This establishment has no right to the cat café branding. It is merely a normal, sub-par café that happens to be adjacent to a cat sanctuary which you have to pay even more by the hour to enter. If youre not timely or lucky enough to score a reservation you are limited to the one or two cats that might pass by the separating glass in the back of the café. You cant even brink your food or drink beyond the partition. There is simply no point in such an enterprise if you cant send some emails and sip your espresso while surrounded by cats freely wandering the space. Just go to an animal shelter or something. The Tokyo Tofu was okay but horribly overpriced.
Extremely clean and well organized. My girlfriend has cat allergies and she was fine. I can’t speak to the food as I was too distracted by the feline attraction to order anything. That being said, the cat area was first rate. We went at 7:30 on a Friday and there was only one other couple present during our time slot, so we did not feel in any way cramped. Most of the cats were sleeping, but what do you expect? If you are looking for a place to get your cat fix while supporting a good cause, I’d 100% recommend Koneko.
Ive been to a lot of cat cafes and this is unfortunately the most disappointing one I have experienced. The majority of the cats here are up for adoption (which is great!!) but they are usually only at the cafe for a matter of weeks before being adopted, meaning that they arent fully settled into the environment. They all seem very on edge, both with other cats and with humans. There are some permanent cat residents too but again none of them seem at all interested in human attention, except maybe for the staff who theyre used to. I have visited other cafes in the past where they offer the cats for adoption, and none of these have had the same tense atmosphere where none of the animals seem very comfortable. I can see the cats are very well looked after, I think they just have too quick a turnaround time in terms of adoption for Koneko to justify charging $20 for you to pet the cats who arent well adjusted enough to want to be petted yet. Such a shame, as the cafe is nice and the food/coffee is good. Also the only cat cafe Ive visited where the cats are completely separate from the food area. Its okay, but if you actually want to cuddle some kitties, there are plenty of other places in NYC where the cats will actually let you do that!!
The price of the tickets to get into the cat “experience” are very expensive for what you get. When you go in, after removing your shoes and coats, you have two levels of moderately to small sized rooms filled with about a dozen cats upstairs and downstairs. You can’t eat in there but you can bring in a drink. Tickets cost us about $85 for four people (two adults and two children) and with the addition of 4 drinks we were at about $118. We got 3 cappuccinos that were actually very good but about half the size of a tall coffee at Starbucks so they were small and a matcha latte that my daughter enjoyed. Cats of course will be cats and we did come close to their lunch time so there was very little interaction. It may have been that the cats were hungry or just not interested but there were also a lot of people there for a cat to person ratio and it kind of felt like you had to compete for time with the cats.I didn’t really go for my husband or myself, we went for my daughter and her friend and after about half an hour my husband and I decided to go sit in the cafe and have something to eat while they played with the cats. We got a croissant and gyoza. The croissant was to die for, really outstanding and encouraged me to add a star just on that alone. The gyoza were okay, pricey at $16 for what they were in my opinion. The staff overall was exceptionally friendly and helpful again adding another star in my opinion to the experience.Overall my daughter was happy and said she had a good time so that added the third star despite the fact that I did not feel it was worth the cost of the experience. That being said it is NYC and as we all know the prices are inherently higher so there is not much surprise in that. I just think maybe for that price including a complimentary cup of coffee or tea would not hurt to make it feel more like an inclusive experience.I just want to close once more with the fact that the staff was outstanding. They were happy and friendly and really gave an atmosphere that they were doing what they love to do. Kudos to them!!
This place is so adorable. This is my first Kitty cafe and definitely wont be my last. All the cats are well taken care of and available for adoption. The coffee and drinks are pretty good too. Theyve got two floors where you can play with the cats. Definitely worth a visit.
Super cute cat cafe on the lower east side! I came here on a Friday afternoon because I was feeling kinda depressed and petting cats always makes me feel better. I was able to go to the cat area as a walk-in at 4pm on a Friday but usually they recommend making a reservation. Price is $20 for an hour not including coffee or food. The number of cats vary but when I went there were 16 at the cafe. About 10 or so were out and about that you could see and pet.
Great place for cat lovers! I was taken to Koneko for my 24th birthday! It was such a blast. The food was delicious as well as the beverages. There is a fee of $20 to actually get in and play with the cats but its worth it. It helps support and feed them while you get the enjoyment of playing and entertaining them. There are 3 separate rooms where you can play with the friendly felines. Plenty of space and lots of cute cats to play with. It was clean and organized considering its full of cats. If youre looking to kill an hour or two stop by and check it out. I recommend the waffles! Yum!
I havent actually played with cats but Ive had some of the food and drinks there. The okonomiyaki was amazing and the earl grey was the best Id ever had. I loved the tea so much that I had two pots in one sitting. The staff there is really friendly and nice and they have cute cat themed clothing and accessories for sale too.
I brought my girlfriend and a friend to this place late and the staff was very nice. We did not get any food since we already had dinner plans but when we got into the cat area we noticed it was a bit more dirty than we expected. The cats slept, as cats do however they looked a little miserable. The LA cat cafes were so much better and less hairy. For the price, it was a bit disappointing. Also really hard to find.
Coming to this cafe was a fantastic experience! The staff were very friendly, and my party was able to have pleasant conversation with them about cats and other things. The cats were also soft and fun to play with. The food was very good too. Whether you want to play with kitties, or just sip something and have a snack while watching the cats through the glass wall, its a great time.
What a fantastic place! We went to Koneko on Whisker Wednesday and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff was kind, informative on each cat’s demeanor and personality and just generally great conversationalists. The coffee and food (I got the fruit and honey tray) was excellent. It was a wonderful experience all around and we have a great deal of respect and admiration for a place like this, especially as cat lovers. Kudos, Koneko on a fabulous place for both humans and kitties!

Very chill area in town to relax and take a load off after a busy day of walking and sightseeing. They give you slippers and you can eat in the room with cats upstairs. Expect to spend about 35 to 40 dollars if you are interested to dine in and visit cat room. The cats are not very social and hiss at onr another and are wary of new people. I think 1 hour a time is not enough to get to know a kitty.
Wonderful! I came in looking at cats for a possible adoption. The staff was so helpful and knowledgeable, suggesting which cats might be the best fit for my household. They made a point to introduce me to kitties they thought could be a good fit but I hadnt gotten a chance to meet yet in my tour of the cattery. I am so glad to have gotten a chance to come here, and I hope to adopt with them soon!
A lovely cat cafe! They sell coffee and food (coffee was good - not sure about food). They also sell merchandise - hats and shirts, mostly. You pay $15 to spend 1 hour in the separated cat area, which contains 2 floors and a patio. The space is made for cats, but its also quite comfortable for humans. The people inside the cat space are friendly and knowledgeable about the cats, and will tell their stories and personalities freely. You can adopt any of the cats you see! Sometimes they even take cats back from owners - they mentioned 2 cats had only spent 4-6 months with their previous owners before being returned.
Great value for price. $15 to enter the separate cat enclosure which consists of one room on two floors. Id suggest making a reservation but my group and I walked in and waited about 20 minutes for the next entry. The group you along with other visitors so that there arent too many people at once. All the cats were super friendly and some lazy, some energetic. The staff was very soft spoken and generally pretty polite and helpful. They also serve some food but I settled for a cold brew coffee which hit the spot. Definitely going back again because of location, quality, service, and overall a great time!P.S. They also sell kitten chokers (see photos)
Good service and food. Organized and neat. Although there are usually just 2 people at the counter, they are efficient at serving everyone. The cattery is very interesting because it is 3 stories, which includes an outdoor patio. Would recommend the food at the same level as visiting the cats.
The cafe itself had good food, Japanese and American fare alike, and the staff was kind. Unfortunately, the main menu (and the sign outside) doesn’t list the price of the kitties- $20 per person, per hour. We didn’t realize the kitties weren’t included until after we purchased our food. The price was too steep for us, and we just wished we knew what to expect from the get go.
Highly recommend! This place is beyond awesome! They are so nice and they are seriously awesome for the Cats. I think the concept is great but the way the make it all happen is pretty cool. It was me, my wife and our 4 kids. From ages 2 years old to 16 years old and everyone had so much fun. This was a unique experience that the whole family loved! We drove 2 hours from Philly to experience the Cat Cafe.
This is the best cat cafe Ive ever visited, and Ive visited ones in Japan. Its very spacious with two floors and an outdoor space for the cats. There is no smell and its very clean. The cats are very friendly and outgoing. Staff are welcoming and let me stay for longer than my allotted time. The food is delicious! I tried the Japanese style tofu, and it was a completely different flavor than Im used to, but so good!!! Yum!!!Highly worth-while to pay a visit, especially if you enjoy the company of cats 😻😻😻
A wonderful place where the cats are really cared for. Its hard to predict when cats will feel like being social and playing, and to their credit, they dont force the cats into it. I love that we get to see and experience cats being cats at all stages and levels. If I could have cats, I would be filling out an adoption application right now instead of filling out this review.Im sorry to say I went for the cats and not the cafe but everything smelled very good.
If you go early on a week day the wait shouldnt be too bad. We called in advance and asked how busy they were beforehand which is always a good idea. We got there at 3:30 and the cats were being fed and getting a break until 4 so we got some lattes while we waited which were really good! Cats were really friendly and staff was too. Loved the fact that the cats have their own little closed off room in the back where they can get away from people if they want to 😂 All of them are up for adoption too which is wonderful
Absolutely great staff, food, and cats. Although some cats are not happy to play, the staff will inform you which ones are safe to pet and which can be on edge. The only sad part is that you can each cat about once, as the next time you go, the cat might be gone. I love most of the cats here (If you got to see either Capn Crunch or Booberry, they are so cute and are the best cats ever) and the food (I get the pocky) is really good with good prices. I overall love this place even if I only get to go 1 or 2 times a year. Would recommend to everyone.
I love cats and was excited to visit. The staff in the cat room and people who served at the bar were great. The disappointment was the lethargy of the cats. They had no interest in playing or visiting with the humans. It was an experience unlike what Id seen on TV or what I expected. A very good cause and mission to find homes for the cats, however so I still consider it money well spent.
Came with a friend last Friday hoping for a totally Japanese cat-loving experience and was instead met with typical expensive gentrified neighbourhood white people vegan hippie prices on many things not even Japanese, clueless inanimate staff, and an outrageous criminal fee of 20 dollars to simply pet the cats which are in a separate room behind glass like they were in a zoo or something that is set apart from the cafe itself. The cats are not part of the experience unless you make a reservation ahead of time and pay up. We left disappointed and definitely wont be coming back. This place is deceiving and there is a different cat cafe in Brooklyn which charges far more reasonable rates. No highway robbery involved simply to pet a cuddly kitty, though I dont particularly agree with having to pay to spend time with cats at all.
Since I only had to pay for one person to enter to pet the cats ($20), it didnt seem too expensive but a family of 3 or 4 - I think that price is kind of high per person. You do not have to pay that if you just want to hang out in the cafe area and not interact with the cats. It is kind of cool that you can bring a drink with you into the cat area so you can have a beer while petting some cats (or a tea or something). But for safety reasons you cant actually pick up a cat or climb a chair to reach a cat on one of the high shelves (understandable). So I had fun and some laughs, but its not like you are surrounded by super friendly cats who just want to cuddle at your feet (also understandable). Im glad I helped out some homeless cats, but I probably wouldnt go back for a visit. Cool to say I did it, thought! It was unique
This place is mad cool. The drinks are quality and the cats space is well kept and well designed (three floors!). However, I cant justify the $15 price tag (per person!) on access to the cat area that that are up for adoption. With lower access cost (drink purchase required perhaps?), they could expect more clientele, leading to more money coming in on drinks purchased, leading to more potential adopters. Oh well :/
We had wonderful experience here. Nice and clean, comfortable and friendly cafe. Highly recommended.Kitties are so cute and playful. Just remember they are nocturnal, pick the right time to come. This place become my cat ladies(my daughters) favor itenary place to visit in the city from now.
Great time! Definitely would go back. The cats are really cute, and theres a big selection of ways to interact with them. The staff are really fun to talk to as well, so make sure you ask them about the cats and stuff. Some of them are a bit grumpier than others so be a bit careful.
Its a cafe, that has cats! You pay for an amount of time in a separate section from the actual food place. (Theres a glass foyer you go through separating the two sections, so no cats trying to steal your food). They give you a brief overview of rules to protect their furry charges and then off you go. Theres two rooms and an outdoor space and cats can be found all over. And the cats are adoptable!
Expensive? Yes. Understandable? Kind of yes, and heres why I feel that way.I went with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening, and before we got to go in, we got to watch children terrorize some of the poor cats (employees were excellent about putting a stop to it, but please if you bring your children here teach them to properly interact with animals prior). We had a reservation that was fairly easy to get since evenings are less popular.Unfortunately many of the cats were sleepy, and I cant blame them, so I wont let that detract from my review. All of the cats were very sweet, and the working employee was super friendly, helpful, and overall kind to both us and the cats, which is really what I like to see.At one point, a pair of 20-something idiots (and Im a 20 something) came in, and this dumb girl tried to pet a cat we were told we should leave alone. The cat gave her a warning swat, which I guess pissed her off, so she started to hit and flick the cat in the face (he almost got her and I really wished he had). Luckily the working employee put a stop to it in an instant and gave her one more shot (she may just genuinely be a mean idiot), and she, a little later, proceded to once again fight the cat. Her boyfriend dragged her out the door when the employee kicked them out because she really wanted to get back to fighting that cat. Incredible display of human behavior that day.My point being though, expect a trendy place like this with animals to attract a fair deal of idiots and jackasses who are incredibly entitled. Luckily the incredibly professional staff had an eye on everyone and everything, and ended up letting my friends and I stay an extra hour since there wasnt many people and the cats were so sleepy.Overall I really enjoyed learning about all of the cats and playing with them, but next time would definitely go in thw morning before too many obnoxious people terrorize the cats into a slumber.
Can’t speak for the food, but I stopped by for the cats which was a good time. Many were sleeping, but they weren’t all completely used to the attention and would still play and respond to you which is good. Nice experience, 1 hour in the cat room is about 20 per person.
Sounds like a fantastic concept, and my boyfriend and I were excited to visit. While we support the need to care for the cats, be aware that there is a $20 (yes, $20) fee to visit with them, and limited to one hour. Beyond that, the barista was super curt and pretty darn unaccommodating. We left disappointed. Also, you could just visit a bodega and hang out with some really cool cats for free.
Cute little cafe with cats in the back. Coffee is no joke. Really good cold brew. Wish I could play with the cats minus the $20 but I got one at home so I opted for that option. Service is quick and to the point. Merchandise is pretty cool too although I did not purchase.
As a person who loves but is allergic to cats, I was unsure if Id have a good experience visiting Koneko. Glad I tried it out though! I took a Benadryl ahead of time, and for $20 got to enjoy the many sweet cats running around the two floors of the cattery. The staff (of the cat area) was very nice and cheerful, and seemed to genuinely care for the cats running around. Worth a trip if you like to just be around cats.
Booked reservation for 5 people, ended up in a room with 20 people total. While this place sounds like a good idea to relax and enjoy kitties, the staff seemed to intentionally over book the cats. It seemed like they were really trying to sacrifice quality for quantity
Blasting overhead music dropping F bombs when I came with my 13 year old daughter. Cats not available from 3-4pm to be fed. Seems like a millennial chic spot more than all about the cats. Not really interested in helping tourists from out of town. Wanted to make reservations in person and they totally got confused because it wasnt online. Nobody knew what to do. Not really good for kids. My daughter has wanted to come here for 6 months and we paid A LOT OF MONEY TO PET SOME CATS and NOBODY made her feel welcome at all. If you are a tourist, go home, pet the cats in your LOCAL shelter and make a $50 donation. Skip the gimic.... especially if you have kids.
I came in with a friend just to get coffee but its definitely not what it seems. Its a coffee bar so you can also get sake, and as a bonus, theres a cat cafe in the back, which you need to reserve. But dont worry if youre allergic; the area is sealed off from the front. Its a very quiet and clean place and enough seating for a group of 2 or 3 but nothing bigger.
I know most people come here for the cats but the coffee here is just as worthwhile given its solid shot of espresso, good customer service and a very chill relax atmosphere. As for the cats itself, its a very clean and well control environment so if you or your date is a cat lover then this is the place to go.
Way too much humans for the number of cats. People cannot behave, and cannot stop petting cats or soliciting unwanted interactions. In this environment, you have no chance to actually share a moment with a kitty unless you solicitate them even more...Kids are screaming too...And everything for 20$ per person.Dont go there.
Some of the cats are not very friendly. I saw one customer got scratched and 3 cats tried to scratch/bite me when I was there.I think it is very expensive way ($15/hour) to get scratched by some vicious cats. My friends cats do it for free.I would not come back to that place anymore. The cats at Little Lions are much friendlier.
Make your reservations online for an hour of play in the two-level cattery. They usually have approximately 15 cats at a time, but keep in mind there will be other visitors as well. Also remember that cats sleep most of the day, so while some will play many will nap! A fun excursion for cat lovers!
I came into the city with 6 teenagers, having prepaid for an hour with the cats, as well as a reservation for their Thursday brunch. The kids spent their hour with a bunch of mostly sleeping cats. Unfortunately there was only one young girl in charge of making all the food which she did one slow plate at a time. One solid HOUR and ten minutes from the time she came with the first plate (waffles and berries) till the last plate which was a noodle veggie bowl. Simple food!! I complained and was told cant you see we only have one person doing the food? ...So Id say the place is ok for a cup of coffee at leisure but they should NOT offer a brunch with reservations because they cannot deliver that.
Cats are fine. I brought my kids to interact with them. The person inside had to show us the way out ten mins before our time was up. I already gave my kids 3 mins warning that we would leave. But his demeanor made me feel totally unwelcome. This whole supposedly relaxing time turned out to be a weird creepy experience. If the time should be 45 mins, or 1 hour, or so, it need to be clearly communicated. I don’t recommend and would not return.
This cafe is neat and tidy and it has cats which you have to make a reservation and its $20/hr. Yes, the reservation fee and the food are expensive here but on the other hand its good that they only allow certain number of people at a time. However, its a busy cafe and sort of understafffed so I had to wait 30 min for my gyoza and it was all burnt and salty. It was good and other food also looked really good but just be aware that you will have to wait.
The Lower Eastside has been a good home for me for a very long time. Theres lots of way to be a good neighbor especially in a neighborhood thats fiercely gentrifying around the people who have lived there for generations. The owner of Koneko is not a good neighbor. I was there with a friend when a neighborhood woman and her two daughters came in and learned that there was cat visiting in the back behind glass wall. When the girls asked their mom if they could visit with the cats, the counter person told them that it was $15 to visit the cats. I listened for awhile as the mom explained to her daughters Another time. I decided to offer to pay the $15 and asked the woman if that would be okay. She said Thanks but when I went to pay I was told by the owner that it was $15 per person including children. I asked if he could make an exception and was told No. So please let No be the byword as you pass by Koneko and give your business to another one of the scores of LES gourmet coffee shops.
What amazingly attentive staff and a great space they maintain. I was greeted promptly and frequently, told all sorts of details about the adoptable felines, and gently told about additional events and goings-on at the space. Oh, and the cold brew I had was great, too, but the taste may have been enhanced by OHMYGODCATS.
I went to get my usual tart and cappuccino at exactly 8:37pm mind you the place closes at 9pm. As soon as I walked in under the pouring rain I was told all the machines were shut down and closed. I guess they don’t need the money that they can close this place whenever they want. No customer service skills whatsoever. I live close by but imagine if someone travel far enough to go this place because they like what they sold to be told 15 mins prior to closing that they closed everything up. I promise I won’t go there again. I guess they don’t care about my 10 bucks.

2022-06-22If you are an avid lover of furry friends and cute cats please look no further than Koneko. This cafe offers food and drinks in the outside room but inside the back is where the fun is at. There are an abundance of cute cats whom can be adopted if you fit the requirements. To see these cats, you would have to make a reservation for a timetable. Most of the time it’s flexible. These cats are very cute and sociable. It is so fun to play with them and pet them. However since many of them have just came from the outside, some may not be too friendly or would sleep all day. If you would like to adopt a cat please come to visit. The workers are all nice and loving people too!

2022-01-25Huge hit with teenagers- adorable cats available for adoption. They are well socialized, and some are playful. Not as engaging as I had hoped but a few cats had a playful personality. Cafe staff was wonderful and the food was delicious!

2022-01-29My husband’s a huge cat person and I’m not as much. This is the perfect compromise. We’ve been here 4-5 times the past 3 years and it’s always been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive. There’s also lots of space (2 different stories) for the cats to roam around. It’s always clean. They also offer a stamp card for visits and drinks. Drinks are fairly priced. Never tried out the food but there’s always next time!

2022-06-09Very cozy place. The staff are very nice, and the cats are just adorable. Whole cafe is cat themed, and theres about 20 cats around the establishment. A few of them are grouchy, but they’re friendly for the most part. Food was mediocre, the focus is more on the cats.

2022-07-05If you love cats this is the place for you!!! A little cat cafe who give a last home to a rescued cats whos searching a home. You can enjoy a little time with them, pet and play with them (And adopt them too if youre interested), or just enjoy their vibes and relax, you can have a drink in the space where the cats are. Theres tea and coffee and other things that youll enjoy. Two important things: you need to do a reservation in advance (1 hour or more, if you want) in Konekos webpage, and remember that cats are not like dogs, give them their space and let them to know you. Ill surely come back!

2022-03-07This is a great way to zen out for an afternoon. There are no kittens here just fully grown cats but they are friendly fun and a ball of laughs. You can pet and play with almost a dozen cats for an hour. If your not allowed to own or thinking of adopting I highly recommend coming here. On top of the cats they have a great little Cafe with matcha choices. Parking can be a pain just be prepared to pay for a meter. Buy your tickets ahead of time as you might not be able to play with the cats as a walk-in!

2022-07-08Ordered a iced scarlet tea. Very good!! Mostly came for the cats.CAT RULES: it is $20 to pet the cats. Must have a reservation. If there is room they can take you as a walk in. You cannot pick them up or corner them. Basically you just have to sit there and let them come to you. Cats Rule! Ha ha overall I felt it was not worth the $20 to go spend an hour with the cats. I left after 15 min. I cant comment on the food since I didnt eat. There

2021-12-12This cat cafe was amazing!!! The cats are so cute and sociable. They have places to lounge with the cats and they also have a nice outdoor area! For lunch, my friend and I got the okonomiyaki, the veggie gyozas, and the chocolate cake, and it was all really yummy! The chocolate cake was especially decedent. We also got a latte and a hot chocolate, which were delicious. The barista who was working was super sweet and talked to us about the cats and the cafe in general. I don’t know her name but she was awesome! I totally recommend checking this place out, it’s very peaceful and nice.
