Quite good! nice ambiance inside, food served quite well. bone marrow was delicious especially the miso toast 🤩wagyu toast was also lovely and delicate with a beautiful hint of truffle . clay pot rice was okay - not my favorite but maybe better with some protein. drinks were quite yummy too. nice little place to get some interesting dishes and have a bit of a fancy night out !
The lamb saddle is one of the best meals I have ever had...in my life (including multiple Michelin restaurants) the, burnt ends of that dish are sublime. Everything is exceptional, Chef Chris is a culinary rock star. The staff is amazing and the vibe is just perfect. The KYU in Miami is one of our favorite places and we never thought the NYC location would out do it; it did. Do yourself a favor and make this one of your go to places in NYC.
We went 10pm on a Wednesday. The restaurant was 50% full. It was just me and my wife. The hostess sat us at a table of 2 in the main dinning area, after we took our jackets and started reading the menu, she came back and told us this table was unavailable and sat us next to the bathroom in a table of 6 (we where 2). The table of 2 never got used as the restaurant slowly went empty.Bad feeling, no explanation, 0 stars with service and experience. It’s a big No to move a customer to another table once it’s already seated and ordering. Terrible.
Amazing dining experience at KYU New York! I love that it preserves everything that is amazing about them in Miami, but adds their own New York flare. Ive returned back many many times and heard they are now open for lunch too! A great place to take a date, friends, family, people visiting New York from out of town--aka anyone! Couldnt recommend more.
Love the vibe and fit out but food is unimpressive. The best thing on the menu, the shorts ribs, were so salty we couldn’t eat them. Nothing stood out. The gyoza and pork buns were fine but there are so many other places that do them better. The cocktails were by far the best part and probably the only reason worth going back.
Good food and good service. The appetizers were delicious but the mains were just ok in my opinion. Would recommend the tuna crispy rice, crispy kale, and the Wagyu toast. Those were the highlights. I would say the highs were quite high but the ones that werent highs were very average for the price. The stone pot rice didnt have enough crispy sides to it. The Korean fried chicken pieces were a bit on the large side since it was the thigh meat and the drumstick. I think had they been the party wings, that might have tasted better. They had an interesting sauce that kind of tasted like cheese but the chicken needed to be dipped in it. I was really looking forward to the short rib but the taste was a bit to smoky for me. The pork guy was also a bit on the salty end for my taste.
Beyond disappointing, terrible service, beef short rib couldn’t have been drier and way to salty, the pork belly buns also dry and tastelessMussels where minuscule, the bass was tastelessthe room half empty even though if go online it’s fully booked every night for months and monthsSloppy waitstaff, petite martini glassesThe miami version blows this away!!Will not return and horribly overpriced for what you get!!!
The ambiance is very nice. Front of the house staff was pleasant. Our first three courses were very good but service was alittle slow. Our last course the lamb saddle came out cold the first time. And the second time it was so salty it was inedible. It really put a damper on the entire meal.
I’ve eaten at KYU NYC twice. This most recent visit was for dinner with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. The food here is delicious! The Wagyu Toast?! I wasn’t prepared for how tasty that is!Other favorites are the Krunchy Kale, Crispy Pork Belly, Roasted Cauliflower (so good!), Japanese Sweet Potato. The environment is relaxed and not overly loud. Plus, you’re not packed in like in some other NYC restaurants. The service was spot on both times with the servers being attentive without being pushy.
I really wanted to give it 5 stars. I’ve been to the one in Miami a few times and loved it so I was excited when the NYC location opened! However service was meeehh, food was hit or miss, and overly priced in general. Went with a group of 6.Drinks were good however my drink was basically a lychee martini and it didn’t have any lychee fruit!!Bone marrow was fantastic as always but it only came with 2 pieces of bread so we asked for extra which never came but extra bread ended up on the bill anyways.Loved the pork belly bao but incredibly overpriced.Short rib lettuce cups were fantastic but also kind of overpriced.Ordered crab and duck fried rice. Wish I could get those calories back. Rice was mushy and they both essentially tasted the same.Cauliflower was good but again, over priced.TLDR: lackluster in comparison to Miami restaurant. Don’t get the fried rice.
This experience was borderline insulting. When prices are that high, youre setting an expectation of a certain level of quality service and food. We received neither.1. Very unorganized staff - for 40 tables they had maybe 8 people walking around serving water, and only 2 waiting staff. We had to wait 30 mins for a glass of wine. After 90mins, we hadnt yet received our first course...2. Food was underwhelming: The chicories salad tasted like salt, the sliced hamachi was way too sour I couldnt taste anything else on the plate, the tuna and crispy rice was boring, the wagyu brisket tasted like the brisket from your local diner but priced at $72. The only highlight was the duck, which was cooked to perfection.3. Drinks - just meh, nothing special..In my 4 years living in Manhattan, Ive never left a restaurant this disappointed.
The meat was WAY over seasoned — everything was horribly salty, even the vegetables. I couldn’t finish anything. We had: the beef tenderloin, the short rib, baby bok choy, cauliflower, tuna crispy rice (beware — it’s not really rice) and the wagyu toast. The only thing remotely edible was the tuna crispy rice. This place is forever on my black list. For $140 (what my half of the bill was) you can get a sick meal at a Michelin star restaurant. Go to one. Or anywhere else. I felt like I was at an overpriced Asian themed Chili’s. I wish I could get my money back.
So disappointed. As fans of KYU, we were very excited to support the new location. The server told us everything was pre made and that’s why food came out seconds after ordered. Server also did not care about allergies and had no food knowledge.. The location in wynwood is far better and much more special.
Service was 5 star, food was 4 star, value was 2 star. I did the 190$ taster with a friend cause thats what I usually do when I visit NY. Was super surprised by the dishes coming out... Bok choy, fried chicken? Egg fried rice? Only redeeming dish was the short rib on bone that came out at the end. Even then it was heavily overseasoned, but it was good. 600$ between 2 people, def wont be going back. Could take 600$ to a Michelin star spot tbh. I think Kyu needs to up their game tbh. Very low value per the cost. Very low
Beautiful bar area at the entrance. Large spacious dining room with open kitchen , communal tables , standard tables and booths.Decor is minimal industrialish. Bathrooms are large and spacious too.Food is great. Format is best for sharing small and large plates. The shortrib , sweet potato, sunchokes, and stone bowl fried king crab fried rice stood out. The soft shell crab bao was delicious but at $25 there shoukd have been 4 portions not 2 as there was only 1/4 crab in each little bao. Pricing was quite high in general.Service was slow to start but then became nicely attentive. Coconut cake and rhubarb tart were good desserts but again at $18-22 just felt overpriced.
Food is not as good as Miami location, way over priced (50% higher than Miami and more expensive than most NYC restaurants of same caliber), and the check came with HIGHER price than what menu showed!!!! Double check the price before paying, they admitted it was wrong but blamed on recent menu change

2022-09-19After dining at the KYU in Miami a few months ago, I was thrilled to learn they were opening an NYC location. This place is incredible. Cocktails are delicious and the food is amazing. Some of my favorites: the cauliflower, the tuna crispy rice, king crab fried rice, and anything off the smoked and wood fired sections. Everything was top notch and the service was great.

2022-04-29Sexy Miami transplant to Soho New York is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The bar / lounge is sleek, staff attentive, and customer service on point for a new restaurant post covid. Cocktails are hitters and must have bar menu items are the Waygu on brioche toast topped with caviar and crispy tuna rice.

2022-05-30The service was perfect. The ambiance was beautiful, very modern with high ceilings and modern layout, although too dark to read a menu with normal 20/20 vision. However, the most anticipated part was the worst - the food. Grilled cauliflower which was completely cold, rice dish that was overwhelmed with lemon grass, specialty drinks that were not special at all - just over poured with strong liquor and poor infusion of flavors. The only good dish was the short rib which slid off the bone, but even that was heavily oversalted.I wish they focused more on their menu and less on decor. Sad to say this place is a miss.

2022-08-04Excellent Asian fusion restaurant. We tried 3 cocktails each and they were all delicious. Bao buns, Korean fried chicken, duck hot stone bowl, shishito peppers, crispy rice and coconut cake and coconut ice cream and corn vegan ice cream. Loved everything.

2022-04-29Had a very early dinner here on Thursday just as they opened (I was dining solo and didnt have a reservation). NOTE: they were fully booked for the evening so I was happy to get seated. I ordered the tuna tataki which was AMAZING (probably my fave), the roasted cauliflower which is also fabulous and the mussels. For dessert I had a very refreshing sorbet with grapefruit. Plus, they make a fabulous Perfect Manhattan. I sat at the chefs table and met the chef and also had a chance to chat with some of the staff - all of whom were super excited to be at KYU. For a restaurant that was only open for one week, it was running on all cylinders. Very happy with the service. Highly recommend, with one caveat. If you care about conversation, I would come on the early side by 6:30-ish before the music gets pumped up to Miami-levels. I also happen to love the chefs table and would definitely ask to be seated here again.

2022-07-05Looks absolutely amazing, a very promising menu, just didnt meet the standards we were expecting for the price.Started off very well, lovely cocktails and the pork gyozas were beautiful, however it was all downhill after that.First was the Korean fried chicken, these were OK, they come on the bone which I wasnt expecting so you have to pick it apart.Next were the ribs, these were good, slid right off the bone, but you could literally find a decent rib like this anywhere. After that was the lamb, this was cooked beautifully but again you only get 4 tiny pieces with it as its served sliced off the bone, so it looks alot but in reality you get nothing. However the potato gratin that comes along side the lamb, was lovely and a saving grace of the meal in my opinion.Overall fairly standard food that you could get anywhere for and incredibly inflated price. Id save your money and go elsewhere.

2022-09-13I’d say this location tops Miami! Such an incredibly beautiful restaurant, amazing ambiance and Chef Chris is an artist behind the most amazing food you’ll ever have in your life.I went for brunch and had the best time. Be sure to order the cha cha toucan sam, chickpea crispy rice, steak and eggs, brown sugar chai cinnamon bun, and the avo toast. These dishes have been elevated with a unique twist and I can’t get over how incredible everything was.

2022-08-20Impeccable.KYU offers a modern vibe with classic elegance. My partner and I went there during our trip to NYC, we were recommended by foodie and influencer Blistered Peppers, we couldn’t have been happier with the recommendation. The wait staff were kind, knowledgeable, friendly and classy without any pretentious notions. We ordered several items and were never disappointed. The Waygu Toast was my favourite, it melts in your mouth while exploding with rich flavour. The duck breast had a perfect balance of soft notes and tender meat with a charcoal finish. The Waygu Tomahawk was cooked like the chef had been making it for decades and was accompanied perfectly with the miso butter. The Bone Marrow had me questioning the pickles on the side and I was put in my place immediately upon tasing how wonderfully it went together. After all of the meat filling us up we decided to have an incredible dessert, I enjoyed the light and fresh grapefruit sorbet and my partner had the decadent s’mores cake.We could not explain or be able to emphasize how much we enjoyed our time at KYU and how excited we are to recommend it to anyone who entertains the idea of dining there.Thank you for having us, we’re excited to join you again!

2022-06-16I had only two dishes. & it’s the first time.so i know it might be too early to judge .based on dishes I ordered( short rip & crunch kale) it was too salty& over seasoned. After eating this, my stomach got uncomfortable due to too much of seasoning. Presentation of short rip was good though.I will try again to check other dishes even though I didn’t enjoy much at first time.
