La Loteria in other cities:
Solid modern Mexican food, at reasonable prices. We started with the chips and set of three salsas, all were delicious. I got the vegetable fajitas, which were generously portioned, very well seasoned and delicious overall. My partner got the tempura cauliflower tacos (2 of them) and loved it. Everything had a great balance of spice and flavour, and we left feeling full and satisfied.
Nice but over priced.l Good thin chips but guac didnt command an $18 price. Yuka fries were the driest fries ever had. texture seemed like it was cooked and sitting under a heating lamp for hours. Happy hour margarita was good but not consistent. Service and attention are excellent. didnt try main dishes
Excellent brunch menu. We opted for the huevoes rancheros and avocado toast. Portions were perfect, not too large or small. Flavorful and fresh ingredients. Doesnt look like one needs to make a reservation, maybe during warmer weather.Margaritas are fantastic are as well.
Nice modern Mexican 🇲🇽 cuisine!!! This restaurant has a nice menu with different options where you can find traditional dishes with something (sauce, size, toppings) that make almost all the plates different.- Good guacamole with nachos and three sauces: peanut, jalapeño and Chile de Árbol.- Tuna tostadas with avocado and mango pico de Gallo AMAZING DELICIOUS.- Duck flautas with mole sauce (chocolate spicy sauce). Very original dish!!!- The tacos with fish and salmon are very fresh so go down with them. They also have nice margaritas with different flavors and the servers were very cool.More food and entertainment options on Instagram and YouTube: El Manu Dominguez.
I stopped in for a break from my walking and to grab a bite. It was a great find. First, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming offering me the opportunity to sit & charge my phone even if I wasn’t going to eat but..., how could I not eat here? They even made me empanadas even though they weren’t on the menu at that time of day.As good as all that was, the food was even better. The empanadas were spectacular and I washed the down with a nice cold “Day of the Dead” IPA.I’m glad I found my way into La Loteria and I recommend that you do the same.
This menu does not disappoint. I went for Restaurant Week lunch but ended up getting multiple appetizers as small plates, the ceviche, chicken empanadas, and corn on the cob with cheese chili and lime. These simple dishes felt elevated and thoughtful and definitely stand out among other restaurants doing their take on Mexican cuisine. The waiter was accommodating and attentive, and the place was decorated very cute. Plus, the neighborhood around was perfect for a scenic NY stroll afterward!
I came here with a party of 20 for a birthday party, and we were the only ones inside, so it seems like its a good restaurant for large groups. There was no air conditioning on a hot summer evening, so they left the windows open, enabling a feast for the mosquitoes. The food looked really overpriced, twice the price for half the portions, and the service was really slow.We ordered the guac and chips with the salsa. The chips were really warm and they had three unique homemade salsas which i recommend, but the guac was average.I ordered the pork belly enchiladas, recommended by our server as one of the more popular dishes. The pork and potatoes were really well done, but the enchilada itself was subpar. Normally I would expect them to cook the meat inside the enchilada but instead they gave everyone the same fried tortilla stuffed with cheese and put different meats on top to distinguish the dish.
I came to this restaurant during Restaurant week in NYC. I ordered the Chilaquiles, ceviche, and flan. All for 40 bucks during Restaurant Week. It was amazing!! Chilaquiles is a baked tortilla casserole with shredded chicken breast, green and red salsas, chihuahua cheese, Mexican cream, red onions, and fresh cilantro, topped with an egg sunny-side up. I would definitely return just to have this dish again. The sangria wasnt the best though. I will have to try other signature cocktails from their restaurant. Overall a delicious restaurant. A little bit on the pricey side, if it wasnt for restaurant week in New York, I would have probably never discovered it. I would definitely come back when I want to splurge on an evening out to have dinner.
I went here for dinner during restaurant week and enjoyed it so much I came back for brunch on my birthday. The service was amazing. Unlimited mimosas was not a misnomer. They put carafes right on the table for us. The tacos with bird nest pasta are to die for and dont miss out on the churros!!
Excellent place to relax, and to enjoy a real Mexican food with family, friends, and acquaintances. And exquisitely and varied menu, which takes us back to the best of the Mexican cuisine, and its unique flavors. Added to that, is magnificent and friendly Staff, who make you feel at home. A place for all ages and tastes. Congrats!!! Waiting for the moment to return. Recommended 1000%
Food was excellent. Service was mediocre. But he outdoor dining area was uncomfortable. The whole time I was eating I thought I was have some kind of weird hot flash. My skin was warm, and it felt like I was sitting under a strong space heater. But the overhead heaters werent on. The source of the heat wasnt clear. It actually made me feel unwell. Finally I got up to pay the bill and noticed the heat radiation was cut in half. Thats when I looked down and noticed that my table and chair were sitting on top of a cluster of CON ED manhole covers. The covers themselves werent hot, but they were radiating a strong heat. It was a truly unpleasant experience.
Pretty good! Nice spot for a meal and they are doing a great job with outdoor seating during these strange times. Our group got a variety of items but I think the best things on the table was the guacamole - tasted very fresh and bursting with flavor. The carne asada and fish tacos were good, too. Service was excellent!
Amazing! I havent had such good Mexican food in years! The rich mix of flavors, the home-made tortillas, everything was superb. We just kept ordering more food as it was all so delicious. This isnt a rice and beans food-truck style place, so if that is what you want, go elsewhere. The duck flautitas are amazing. As are the tacos and everything else. Just writing this review makes my mouth water... The chef is a culinary genius.None of us had space left for dessert. Maybe next time. The service was impeccable and professional and our waitress knowledgeable and charming.
The food is delicious!!! I recommend eating there only and stroll around the area if your looking to have some cocktails. You will definitely find drinks worth your dollars and get what your looking for else where. The hostess was a bit rule and not accommodating. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived of our 5:00 reservation and she stuck us next to a table full of five people when she could have seated us at the other end of the restaurant. We requested to sit else where and walked away ignoring our request.
Amazing food, staff, and service. If you love tacos, you will love these tacos especially the veggie taco, its to die for. Their Guava and Tamarindo margarita is so refreshingly delicious and tasty. They also have a great $5 a taco lunch special when your on the go or want something light. Definitely fine dining and wonderful ambiance. Kudos to the chef and thank you for the great service.
I was pleasantly surprised. Im Mexican and the food is solid. Love that everything had a nice level of heat. Decent cocktails, except for that Mexican Mule...meh. Servers could use a little training (dont call me bro and wait for me to sit down before pushing a menu on me) but they were nice. All that said, would definitely go back.
Small setting but mostly yummy food. Service was fast and servers were very pleasant. Be warned, they said the tacos were small and two wouldnt be enough for a meal but everyone at our table disagreed and couldnt finish their third. (And it wasnt a bunch of dainty eaters either)
Great upscale Mexican food. Everything was very enjoyable and was nicely presented. The dessert, though not my favorite here, was particularly interesting, as it looked like a potted plant. The main downside was how cramped the place is, so people keep bumping into you and you keep listening to their conversation. If you enjoyed Crema on Chelsea, you should try this restaurant by the same chef.
I have only been here for dinner, but it was great. The service was excellent and the appetizers and meals were tasty. I got the vegetarian tacos and the hibiscus margarita and was very pleased with both. They add a unique twist on traditional Mexican cuisine and I would like to come back for brunch sometime.
Its great food but definitely expensive. I will be back but its more of a special occasion/Friday night place for me, not a regular dinner. I was disappointed in the margaritas and micheladas, I would have sent both back if it were allowed. The guac and salsa combo is good, again, at $20 just too expensive unless we shared an entree. It was my wifes birthday which they were aware of, we ordered a dessert, they charged us for it but apparently the candle was free. The service was impeccable throughout the night.
Came here for a girls night out and really enjoyed myself. Its a small place and only good for a large group if you call for reservations first. This place has a really cute, modern ambiance. Service was great and attentive. Food was delicious, I enjoyed everything we ordered. Guacamole was creamier than most guacamoles Ive had but was really good. I highly recommend the enchiladas and churros for dessert.
Me and my husband were there yesterday. Food and drinks were great! The only this was the hostess... (reason why Im giving 4 starts) I believe it was very rude that she could not find my husbands name on the reservation and she stated maybe the reservation was made under the name of Elena, and keep mention names... I believe that was very rude, just stating that she could not find the name at the time we said should have been enough. (We said 6:30 and reservation was at 6:45pm)
This spot is the one I always prefer. I eat in many restaurants but to this one I constantly return again and again. The stuff is very attentive and the food they offer is so delicious. I would always prefer to have a good meal in this restaurant. I highly recommend this place.
NOT worth the money I spent $40 on guacamole, and chicken enchiladas... not great. I got two meals at The Polo Bar which is actually worth the money. Would not go back here and would not recommend unless you want to blow money on mediocre food. Maybe a food critic would enjoy but not for me or my friend who went.
My husband and I went here on a whim. It turned out to be the first night it had opened so we had the pleasure of meeting the owner and all of his delightful family who had flown in from Mexico for the opening. We ended up being treated as relatives, sharing food as well as conversation with these friendly people. As for the food, it was delicious and beautifully presented. The chef has a creative flair both in taste and presentation. Terrific guacomole, divine chips with some unusual dips and we shared a fabulous steak. Dessert was the best flan that we have ever tasted. Apparently, it is the owners grandmothers recipe as are many of the dishes.La Loteria, modern mexican cuisine, is a real gem. Were planning our return visit soon.
Perfect patio and the sun hits the restaurant beautifully to enjoy sunset and upcoming spring. The happy hour is unbeatable. They dont comprise on ingredients, execution, or presentation. They work hard are their culinary creations and for ~$5 for an assortment of delicious small bites you can more than get your fill.
Honestly the best Mexican around the city. I took my dad here because every time I go, I am never disappointed. My dad was shocked at how good it was. We all love the duck flautas guac. Such a much needed addition to our neighborhood, crushes the competition! Five stars.
Overall food was good but the service was quite bad. The server literally burnt my wife’s fingers! Fajita pan was very hot but the server didn’t even care to mention about it and just kept across the table and left it for us to turn! Any basic restaurant would train their servers to notify their customers if the pan is hot!For that reason I would never go here again!
Horrible management. Was seated at a table with a friend for happy hour. Restaurant fills over time. We continue ordering cocktails. After 4 cocktails, an alleged manager asks us to finish because he needs the table. No Ill try to find you somewhere else to sit. No sorry guys, Ill comp you a drink. Just I need the table. We leave. 20 minutes later, the table we sat at was still empty. We were just sitting there, having a great conversation and were asked to leave for no reason. Eff that.
Disappointed to say the least. We met as a group of friends gathering from in and out of town for the first time in over a year. Dinner was fine - not great, but the end of the night was ruined as a waiter dumped ice water down the backside of me. We were in the process of paying and the waiters felt that apologizing verbally was the only way they could show remorse. In fact, they literally said, we apologized, what else do you expect us to do? in response to my less than thrilled face leaving the restaurant half soaked. Pretty insulting and lacking genuine apologetic feelings. None of us will be returning.
Food is okay, service is terrible. Our waiter (the name was Jose S. on our check) was extremely rude and disrespectful. We arrived around 11 pm. It took him about half an hour to come take our order, at which point he maintained a stoic, expressionless face before mentioning that the kitchen closes in 15 minutes. Why does the restaurant say they are open until 12 am if the kitchen closes before that?Nevertheless, we tried to be as accommodating as possible, as we were clearly a burden to this guy. I asked if I could have the quesadilla with no shrimp, as I am a vegetarian. His response? Just cheese. Well, there are other ingredients in there, such as tomatoes and other veggies, can I have those too? Once again, he glares at me and says, Just cheese. I gave up and just went with it.After finally getting our food, Jose promptly disappears and never revisits our table to ask if everything is okay or if we need anything else. I probably saw him a grand total of two times. If hes in such a hurry to go home and clearly hates interacting with people, he shouldnt take a job that requires you to work late and actually be nice to people. I can say with confidence I will never be returning here.
Amazing place, amazing food, great staff Andres the bartender makes the best drinks ever a Jessica the waitress took such a good care of us it was an amazing experience and the music was so Latina you better come to this place if you like fancy Mexican food dont miss the opportunity to have the tacos of pork belly they are heaven

2022-02-27The most Amazing and delicious guacamole. The margaritas on the rock where amazing (cost $17 each which I think is a little bit pricey for the size of the glass) Not too sweet and just perfect balance. Churros are to die for. Your welcome 🤗

2022-07-09Awesome Mexican spot in downtown with outdoor seating. Perfect date night spot. Go for a walk by the pier and have an appetizing Mexican meal here. I had the chicken fajitas with jalapeño infused margaritas along with guac & chips. Loved it!

2022-07-26These Baja fish tacos are amazing! Last time I was here was pre-pandemic, but I’m so happy to know that the food is still delicious and the drinks go down like a dream. Sad that most of the team working has changed, but the newer crew were still super friendly!Highly recommend the fish tacos, the chilaquiles, and the Sangria. Yum!

2022-06-02Average food at an above average price. Bad value proposition, happy hour and wonderful staff is their saving grace. But would strongly recommend other places. If you like it here i recommend you try Maya on 1st ave and i guarantee you will never go to La Loteria again with the sole exception being for convenience if you’re close.

2021-04-26The ambiance was beautiful, the restaurant had an outdoor seating available with heated lamps as it was super cold few days ago🥶🥶🥶🥶 The table and the layout was super cute for both indoors and outdoor seatings. We got their #Margaritas and each of us got different flavor and all of the drinks tasted very good. They sugar level was perfect and it tasted refreshing. They do not serve Chips and Salsa on the house so we ordered Salsa and Guacamole combo with chips for appetizers. Most Mexican restaurants I go to have chips that are stale and for a change these were not stale and were crispy. The #Guacamole was on point and was very well presented. The highlight were the salsa that tasted so good especially the verde salsa. They had 4 vegetarian options on their menu and last time I had tried their Tacos that I tasted very good, this time I got #chilaquiles which was new addition to their menu. I asked them to subtract the egg for me and they were able to accommodate that. This tasted absolutely amazing. The #nachos strips were super crunchy and it was paired with a chipotle sauce and #cotija cheese. It included sautéed veggies and topped with pickled onions. Can’t tell you how good this tasted. My friends got non vegetarian food and they all loved everything they got. Most of them got tacos and one person got Fajita and they were raving about the food.We got #Churros for dessert that served with caramel and chocolate sauce and this one tasted good but not outstanding. The chocolate sauce was very good.Overall I highly recommended visiting this restaurant @laloterianycMy personal rating (scale 1-5 with 5 being the best)Ambience: 5Taste: 5Service: 5Overall rating: 5Cost:$$$Follow me @vspiceroute in IG for more Veg food reviews

2021-05-02What a spectacular spot! Highly, highly recommend. The margaritas were great. The staff were courteous and attentive. The music and ambience was excellent. I would describe the food as gourmet Mexican cuisine. I saw a chef I know post on IG that they went here & I was like “Well lemme add this to my list of to-go places.” AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! If you’re into spicy drinks, try the habanero pineapple margarita.
