Ive been here before Covid and had a good experience. But today July 11/2021, i went and had a whole different experience. They start by giving you a menu but they dont have 90% of the food on the menu. When my wife asked for a cup of ice, she was given ice in a Starbucks plastic cup, which send a message that they reuse the cup that they get their drink in from Starbucks.. Dont know whats going on in that restaurant but, they lost my trust.... for ever.
I must say that this place which specialize in Ivory Coast food is really nice and the food was very good. We ordered the dibi lamb shank and chicken with couscous. The meat was tender and tasty. We liked the food a lot and its more than enough to save for later. This place opens late night as well. However, the service could be a little better. The waitress was all over the place. She was very nice but seemed overwhelmed with other tables. She definitely did the best she could. Well, i would recommend this place.
Pros: The food was delicious. The servings were very big. We had two of the traditional drinks which were yummy. The ginger drink is very strong.Cons: the service is lacking. They were nice, they just didnt seem to be very experienced, so the wait was extremely long both to order and to get our food. We had to try to flag them down just to get the water we asked for and to get our bill.
Amazing food!Great service. The place is beautiful and clean. We ordered the lamb shank, the fish and the chicken (three people), as well as the plantains, the couscous (sorry i dont remember the full name) and a salad.Great price too, I think it was under $60 for all of us.Would definitely come back here again.
My favorite restaurant. The food is so damn good. Love the fish, guineafowl and the lamb shanks. Comes with side orders such as rice, alocco, athiake, salade, etc. Mad food for around twenty bucks. Too good to be true. Only downside is they dont have delivery. Im so lucky its near me.
The rice is delicious here, Ive never even noticed rice being good before. It was 2 of us and we ordered 1 lamb shanks comes with 1 side) and had an extra side of fried yams and had plenty of food left. The lamb was savory and was accompanied by 2 sauces which I finished and wiped their bowls clean with my fingers.
I went with a friend and I was not sure of the menu. So my friend ordered for me. It qas so good. Its a small yet cute place. If you are trying to have a cute date i would totally recommend this place. Of you want a nice chill spot to eat. Its worth it. The menu is small and non confusing. Since we went late they were out of a couple of items though
The food here is great. Its a famiky owned and operated restaurant. You may have ti wait a while for the food, but it is totally worth it! The goat/lamb dishes are always awesome. They do have a very small variety of drinks (some wine, not sure about beer). Totally worth going to!
The place is very small, but like they say small things comes in big package. The food is really good. They give you more food for your money. But they forgot to give my fried plantains and my order was to go, when I got home I realized they didnt give me my fried plantains. Besides that I will always go back there to eat.
With all the good reviews on google you would think the food will match the reviews. This is by far the worse attieke and DiBi I have ever had. The food was very nasty especially the DiBi/Lamb. I love and have tired many attieke and DiBi from different restaurants but this restaurant the food had a very weird taste and smell the DiBi was soggy, how can meat be soggy? I don’t understand. The price is not worth it I was very disappointed.
The food is decent but it is too loud. its hard to enjoy your meal and time peacefully and also staffs shouldnt take personal phone calls in the establishment where the customers can hear you and your conversation. This is supposed to be a restaurant, not a bar or club. The noise and the behavior are unacceptable to deal with. The owners should definitely and must make effective changes immediately. The noise level was loud and unbearable I had to take my food to go. Therefore Im giving this establishment a 2 Star until changes are made. I will be coming back again to see if any improvements have been made.
Absolutely awful establishment. Service is so terrible its downright disrespectful. I usually order Poisson Braise with aloco (grilled tilapia with plaintains) and its always inconsistent. Sometimes the fish is perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection, other times its either dry and rubbery or even watery and underseasoned. Officially done with this place!
The food is always excellent whenever I come. The poisson braise, plantains, stew, and atieke are usually what I order. I also love their ginger drink, but it may be too strong for people who are not used to the ginger flavor. They dont always have what they say on the menu, but that is par for the course for authentic food. Their hot sauce is excellent but may be a bit spicy for some.
It really only takes one bad experience. I ordered a meal from this restaurant through seamless and my food never came. When I called the restaurant the manager told me to “deal with the driver” and that the restaurant “did their part.”He said all this KNOWING the driver came to pick up and THEY told him the order was cancelled. When I tried to call back, no one ever picked up the phone again. This isn’t the way that business is conducted. They will not be receiving any business from me after behaving so unprofessionally. Lying isn’t the way. Thank God for refunds.
The place is a tad outdated & shabby, but we didnt go there to eat the decor. Even though half of the already meager menu was unavailable when we tried to order and it seemed to take a lengthy time for the food to come, but when it did come, boy were the flavors amazing! The portions were generous; the prices reflect that. I felt the staff were very gracious & accommodating.
The food would be amazing if their ingredients were fresh... I get the baked whole fish with the ground cassava but the veggies (onions/tomatoes mix) that cost extra was rotten... thanks for that after I mixed it in with the rest of the food, I was extremely upset... Im out of $32... as they really dont speak much English to get a proper understanding of my issue...
Delicious food in a lowkey setting! I brought a few friends here to enjoy some Senegalese/Côte Ivorian food. It did not disappoint. The food was flavorful, fork tender and there was so much of it. My friend and I split an order of 2 Gigot (massive lamb shanks) with the huge fried plantain side and it was enough for both of us to be stuffed and for my boyfriend to eat some. It came to $9/person not including tip and tax.On second thought, no dont ever go here... I rather not let it become another hipster wasteland...
If you are into African food and enjoy African music by legends like Luambo Luanza Makiadi, Tabu Ley, Papa Wemba and the like, this place is a must visit while in Harlem. Its small and perhaps needs a bit more light, but the food is great, comes fast and is reasonably priced.
Going to be transparent and say that I havent actually tried their baked goods - will update this review when I do so.I came with a friend who works as a teacher on the UES and she says that her booji students always bring in cupcakes from this place when its someones birthday, so I was expecting extravagance, pretentiousness, and skyrocket prices.I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong! The inside looks like a cute real-life version of a Disney fairy-tale. Though the shop is quite small (with seating for about 8), they churn out beautiful edibles at a quick rate, and their decor and style is well-noted. If I had been in the mood for something sweet, I definitely would have gone for something here though. The prices werent as exorbitant as I would have expected - $4 for a cupcake, and $15 for a small cake. These are reasonable considering the location and when price-matched against the over-rated, and overly dry Georgetown Cupcakes (Crumbs will always have a special place in my heart though :/).P.S. Phone addicts may be saddened to hear that phones are banned in this shop, so keep your selfies at bay!
My Husband Is African n Originated From Cote DIvoire. Ive Been Eating African Food since we got together 6 years ago. We always come to this Ivorian Restuarant. This Is By far my favorite African Restuarant. Their Food Is Always On Point. Every. Single. Time. Everything Taste Like perfection, right amount of seasonings, cooked well done and its a nice Atmosphere I Just Wish they Served Cassava Leaf Sauce, That Would Really Make me Come Everyday.
I ordered pintade aloco from La savane to go. When i arrived home, It was a half eaten Pintade with bones inside. I was disgusted and i called immediately. There was no manager or owner i can talk to. The lady did not seem surprised. I immediately drove back with their food. I bet they will give it to someone else. I will never eat there again!
Ive lived in Harlem for seven years--and in West Africa for the same amount of time--and La Savane is hands down my favorite West African restaurant in Harlem. For starters, they have attieke, that Ivoirian delicacy that few restaurants carry. Think tangy coucous that forms into perfect dipping balls. The mains here are all great--the chicken, lamb, and fish are all delish, and the sauces are freshly cooked and tasty. Service is always friendly. Bon appétit!
We ate at La Savane this afternoon, we took lamb with white rice and couscous, a soda and a hibiscus juice: a delight! It was excellent ! The lamb was very well cooked, well melted, the sauces were excellent and the waitress was extremely nice! I highly recommend this restaurant, do not arrive too early to have more choices. We were extremely happy to find this restaurant!
Wonderful! Very very good restaurant! Really excellent! I had the opportunity to go with my 3 sisters and we do not regret our choice! Excellent food, excellent welcome, and also excellent atmosphere! Very good value for money! Looking for Africa in Manatthan? Go take a walk without hesitation! I recommend ! I recommend 👍🏾👍🏾

2022-05-13We enjoyed the Thiep, Athieke and some very nice tilapia with Aloko (friend plantains). Good spot in Harlem to enjoy the authentic West African vibe. Excellent job by my Senegalese fam!

2021-08-28I paid $23.87 for a grilled fish dinner with akche. The fish was over cooked and dried. I tried several times to contact the restaurant but can never speak to a manager or owner. The lady who served me was a very nice & polite person.

2022-05-15A companion and I had 1 hour to find something filling before or next engagement and KNEW we would find somewhere new and exciting to eat along 116th street in Harlem. LA Savane DID NOT disappoint, and the entre prices were reasonable and the portions huge. 2 people could easily have shared a platter. We ended up taking a digging bag home each.

2019-06-17Absolutely love the food here. Cozy and delicious is the only way to describe the restaurant. The only reason I didnt give 5 star is because they decently increased the prices (which is understandable in NYC) however the prices jumped up dramatically. For example previously $14 for the Gigot now its $21.50

2022-04-15This place is not the same at all! The customer service is very slow it never use to be like this it’s ridiculous it’s like talking to statue’s they don’t move they don’t comprehend at all . HOWEVER THE FOOD IS GOOD so go at your risk if you have ALOT OF patience.

2018-02-05Best Ivorian restaurant in NYC. The food is consistently flavorful and the servers are courteous and professional. My favorite dish is the leg of lamb with attiéké. The grilled fish is also delicious. The restaurant has been renovated so it looks great, but the tables are too close from each other and during the winter you might feel very cold if you are sitting close to the door because of the cold air getting in from people entering the restaurant.

2021-09-16So good! Me and my friend wanted to try some authentic, West African comfort food and we got exactly what we asked for. The lady helping us pick was patient and sweet. Loved the food, it was hot and tasty. It felt very local and comforting. Can eat outdoor or indoor.

2021-03-23Amazing food. Freshly prepared fufu is so good. Pepper soup was amazing. Ask for what is fresh that day, the person who is at the front doesnt speak English well (this is a great sign) so please be patient when ordering. Must try the fresh juice when available, ginger juice was incredibly fresh. I will definitely be coming back.
