I absolutely love this restaurant! It is the first Mexican restaurant that I’ve really like! When I go there I get their Tecas Enchiladas since I’m a vegetarian. I also always ask for light cheese and they do such a good job with that request! Couldn’t be more pleased!
Had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. Took over an hour to get our food only for the food to be over cooked and bland. My margarita tasted like a smoothie and didnt seem like it had any alcohol in it. My friend returned her food and I a Latina didnt even finish my food. They didnt charge us for our drinks when we pointed out the wait. We planned on ordering dessert but after the way the service and meal went it didnt seem worth it. The staff is primarily white which is a 🚩when it comes to cultural cooking.
LaTolteca offers delicious food at moderate. While awaiting your order, you can nibble on fresh tortilla chips with their homemade salsa. I love their chalupas and bean burritos. They were short staffed, so we had to wait for about 45 minutes for our food, but the meal was worth it. The decor is Mexican folk arty, and the experience is not marred by tvs. Eat and chat.
I have had better experience here, but my last trip was bad. To begin with, we had to wait for an hour and half before we got seated. After getting seated it took another twenty minutes for our server to bring us water and chips. We got our margaritas quickly enough but then it took forever for the lady to come and take our dinner order and yet another forever to bring us the food(by then we had finished the chips they had given us and there was no one to ask for a refill.) The food was fine, no problems there. We decided to skip the dessert because we really didnt have the patience for it.So, since I have had better experiences here, I would recommend this place to others,on any day but the weekends.
I had the lunch special #6 which included a burrito and an enchilada both topped with lettuce, sour cream, and tomatoes. It was very delicious and it did bring memories of my favorite places to eat in Southern California. The staff was great and very accommodating..I want to say more about how great the staff was but words escape me at the moment.
Nothing authentic here, bad customer service, the guy at the bar is so rude, the food wasnt taste good at all, we couldnt finish the food, the rice teased weird, Enchiladas very sweet, and the cheese very cheap, taste like cardboard, theres so many small Mexican restaurants in town better than here.
Let me tell ya something. This feast is exquisite. They start you off with delicious chips and salsa which seem endless. I taste tested one of the margs and it was marginally better than some Ive had. Mega epic. The chorizo fries. Wow. Took my breath away tenfold. They were phenomenal. We then get to the main event: burritos deluxe baby. Holy mackerel they were tasty. Super filling. We had to get the mighty fried ice cream for dessert and although I feel my heart stopping, it was worth every bite.
Not sure why there are so many good reviews. Ive been to many authentic Mexican restaurants outside the area that were fantastic. If you like canned food or have never tried authentic Mexican, I can see why you like this place. They do make an effort with ambience, but they seem short staffed and the food seemed half prepare lacking all the typical spices inherient in Mexican cuisine.
My experience was easily a 5 starer. Our waitress Renee was super friendly, very attentive, and fast. Our food came out surprisingly quick, in a good way! They were so, so busy tonight I didnt expect it that soon. It was pippin hot and SO good. I definitely recommend this place and cannot wait to go back(:
I Had my sisters birthday party catered yesterday. We had a taco bar, and Hawaiian fajitas. Sandra the owner and manager exceeded her expectations. Very polite, and attentive also Probably the best Mexican Ive ever had. I will highly reccomend this for a party! Or to have dinner at the restaurant. I can not wait to order again!
This location is worth the try. The staff was friendly, clean, food was good..a good place based on the meal to go if you dont like the salsa, cheese dip or meal too spicy. They have good flavor across the board but a mild taste which worked for me. For sure if you havent been here, it is worth the try.
Great food, great service right on top of drinks or anything you needed. I had Chicken avocado salad great fresh avocado on top. Happy hour lime margaritas so good and full size for the cheap price !! Very authentic everything from the themed booths to the food. Keep up the good work !!
The food here is a little too good. Really really yummy. And I really enjoy the live music when played there. I also really appreciate the bowl of mints that you guys leave by the door so I can grab a mint and eat a mint. Although I found the customer service to be great, I had a strange experience one time. When it was time to pay, our server told us to come to them on the way out when we’re ready to pay. So we tried that and we found that the server was talking in their co worker clique so we were like um okay let’s just wait until they’re done talking. So we did and they still hadn’t even acknowledged us. Honestly I forgot how we ended up paying but I think some other employee took it for us. Anyway, don’t come here. Service awful.
Had an excellent meal here! The food was delicious, everything tasted fresh and made order, and was exactly what youd expect from a good authentic mexican restaurant. The service was great, attentive but not too much. And even had a few frozen margaritas that were delicious. Weve been here a few times and will continue to come back again! I would definitely recommend!
Food is always good! The service once we were seated was slow. Did not ask if we wanted more drinks from the bar. He filled one water glass instead of filling everyones water glass. As he did fly by he would ask when our mouths were full how everything was. Not waiting for a response he was gone.
Food is very good which says a lot since I am a very, very picky eater. The downside is the NOISE!Its always so very noisy that it spoil having a quiet, relaxing dinner. I dont know why the people that come here have to talk so loud and share their life & daily happenings with everyone who is sitting at a table or booth.I dont know you! I dont care about what you have to say!
Usually this is my favorite Mexican restaurant but the last couple times I have been there the food doesnt seem to be as good. Today it took almost an hour to get our food. I know it was Cinco de Mayo but they should have realized they would be busier than usual and had extra help. Our waiter was good. We could see he was working as fast as he could but it shouldnt take an hour to get your food. We arrived close to 11:30am so the restaurant wasnt packed yet.
First time there tonight! Amazing food! The flavor and distinction of each dish was delightful! We are a family of six - 4 children ranging from 10 yrs old to 20 yrs old. Everyone LOVED it!! Our server Caitlin was outstanding! Very attentive and on point! They know how to do it right!! Thanks for a great dinner and atmosphere!04/28/2021 - still the best around!! Outstanding service, excellent food and atmosphere!! Go, you wont be disappointed!
First time here, very colorful, very clean. Our server was a pleasant gentleman, he was both polite and attentive without being pushy. The salsa & drinks were refilled quickly, even before we requested! My friend and I both had a chimichanga, excellent choice. I had a takeout order of fajitas for my husband and he really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.
This is a staple of our list of great places to casually eat on any number of occasions, including just being hungry. The staff is always courteous and service is relatively quick. Food is great, and being a California native, its one place I go to in the Buffalo area for good Mexican. Id like to see more street tacos on the menu, but otherwise, their menu is solid. Prices are reasonable and the drinks are great. Definitely will be going again, as we currently do a few times a month!
The food was very good I had tricolor enchiladas. The molé sauce had a wonderful light flavor of chocolate. All 3 sauces had wonderful flavor. The salsa given with the chips at the table taste house made with chunks of onion and a mild underlying flavor of fresh cilantro. The chips also seemed house made. My friend had a burrito and loved every moment of it. The refried beans also seemed House made and reminded me of those I ate as a child visiting friends from Mexico. Definitely not those you get out of a can. We had one of the sampler platters of appetizers and everything was delicious. The quesadilla was very full of meat I would order a quesadilla there judging by that appetizer. The stuffed jalapenos on it were delicious. Now for the reason for four stars instead of five. They have a very limited selection of draft beer. This isnt an issue for me but my friend was very disappointed. I ordered a margarita. I realize they have multiple flavors of the adult slushy version of a margarita but I wanted a real margarita. The one served from a cocktail shaker in a glass with salt on the rim. I was actually very very disappointed. What I received was a day glo fluorescent green liquid that seemed room temperature. It was most likely from a mix that you pick up at a restaurant supply store like Gordons and not made to order with fresh lime juice and Cointreau or triple sec. It had an odd thick mouth feel to it that you dont receive with a simple syrup made with sugar but do with something containing high fructose corn syrup and thickners. This and the odd artificial color makes me think it was a mix. Also no salt on The rim. service was good. The interior is colorful and fun. However, I expected a Mexican restaurant to at least be able to get a simple margarita right. Over all the food wasnt bad. However, I dont drink very often. This was a special treat. With so many Mexican restaurants in the area I think I will try a different one next time.
We had not heard of this restaurant prior to this visit. We trusted our GPS, when it showed La Tolteca as a Mexican restaurant under the restaurant categoryWe are so glad we trusted it.We were greeted by a very friendly service, the hostess and the waitresses were very nice and friendly. The menu has a lot of options - some we had never heard of before. The food is made very fresh, with amazing presentation. The item I ordered was the Hawaiian fajitas, which is served inside of a grilled 1/2 pineapple. The prices are amazing. You get so much food, for such a low price. The service is spectacular - our waitress (KAREN) was amazing.Delicious food, great service, and amazing prices. Roguetrippers were very happy with their visit to La ToltecaYou will love this place.
Very disappointed last night when I visited La Tolteca. I understand the whole COVID - 19 issue but this is what happened. A week ago I visited the restaurant and I asked if I could sit at the bar and the hostess said sure......I had a great meal, drinks and the service also was great. So, last night a buddy and I decided to go and we arrive and there was a wait for the dining room which didn’t matter to us because we wanted to sit at the bar. So the hostess asks the manager if we could sit at the bar which nobody was currently sitting at and he said No. I ask but WHY.....I sat there last week, the hostesses response was that it’s the managers decision.......Anyway we left and spent our money down the street at Brennan’s where they allowed us to sit at the bar socially distancing.Very unhappy and more than likely will never visit them again.
Went during peak happy hour so it was very crowded. We also had a large party. That being said, our server did a fantastic job. Service was a little slow but thats to be expected. He stayed upbeat and was on point with everything we asked for. Food was great, portions were reasonable and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back.
First time being here. Walking in took someone awhile to notice us and sit us down. Than the hostess walked up with an attitude it seemed. Service was timed well. Ordering I was served two beef burritos. When I asked for two chicken. They quickly fixed mistake. My dish I really liked a lot. My spouse felt like portion could have been a bit bigger. Their yellow rice wasnt good at all. Place is nice and clean.
Food was good but they need to be a bit more generous with the rice...its rice practically costs nothing. I ordered a combo consisting of 3 items...asked to substitute one of those three and got a plate with 2 items which I thought was strange considering the wait staff and I discussed only one item being removed. Ordered Churros for dessert and the ends were hard. This was the place I really preferred in the area...idk if they have new management or staff...it could have been a snag that night but I was a bit surprised
I rarely give 5-stars. Im live in Toronto,Canada and discovered this restaurant as a suggestion by my TomTom GPS when I was shopping in Buffalo. This is the closest thing to real mexican good you will find, to get food like this you have to travel all the way to NYC or Virginia. Excellent menu, variety, delicious food, competitive prices. I also loved the happy atmosphere. Wish we had something like this in Toronto but all we have is fake mexican food.
My husband and I went there Thursday night for our first time the weather finally broke a little, so we wanted to go out. It was a late dinner for us because he had to work late, so we arrived about 8p.m. The service was not so welcoming felt like we were intrusing on the staff. The only person who seemed courteous to us was the cook who brought our food to our table. The Waitress on the other hand was not interested in serving us and made our meal uncomfortable so we asked for boxes and went home with our food. It could have been because she was pregnant. However in spirit we still left a good tip because that is who we are. With that being said I would much rather get a bad meal from a happy restaurant than a good meal from a miserable one.
I ordered dinner through their website with specific instructions that were disregarded. When I arrived to pick up the meal they told me that they do not make nachos with carne asada...even though carne asada was on the menu and it is typically just an up charge. Instead of contacting me they decided to just make it they way I specifically asked them not to make it.It normally wouldnt be a big deal but 1) they could have contacted me 2) Staff knew about my specific request and ignored it and was blase about it. (POOR Customer Service). 3) They have messed up previous orders but I decided to give them another try. I guess I learned my lesson.
This is mine and my fiances all time favorite Mexican restaurant in the western new York area. The salsa they bring out as apart of their complimentary chips and salsa at the start of your visit, is to die for. Their menu options have never failed to fill and satisfy us and we are vegetarians, but have gone with friends who are carnivorous and they too have enjoyed the menu at this Mexican food gem on Transit Road in Williamsville.Staff are kind and now recognize us as we are regulars. There is a bar and plentiful drink options for those looking to add this to their experience here.A++
Ive eaten here several times with average results but this past week we waited 60 minutes after being seated. The waitress never came over to the table to explain why it was taking so long. Finally she came and told us they took to many phone orders and our dinner was still not ready and no offer to compensate for the excessive delay. Got up and walked out eating somewhere else. I will never go back and spread the word the restaurant doesnt care about its patrons but does like phone orders
By far my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is great and the atmosphere is very festive. I got the coconut daiquiri and it tasted like a pina colada and it was delicious! The service the last time I went was a little lacking. I dont hold it against them because they are typically always really busy. We will definitely go back quite a bit more.
All I wanted was a simple order, a cheese quesadilla and they some how messed that up. We ordered online and asked to put the refried beans on the side but when I got my order I received what I can call $20 bean sandwiches, no cheese what so ever, lets just say Im not satisfied.
Great decorations and friendly staff. Guacamole was lacking ingredients and they should have a fresh made option. The salsa was just ok, really thin and not even a hint of kick. I had the carnitas and it was flavorful, but a little on the dry side. Probably wont be back.
I know authentic Mexican food. While the food quantity was okay, the flavor was bland and watered down, I had tortilla soup and was disappointed, the tortilla soup was watered down, and the tortilla pieces were soggy, not crisp. The refried beans were also watered down...the salsa with the chips was also watered down, but with the help of the cilantro the flavor was actually not bad. The entire visit was underwhelming, I will continue until I find authentic and flavorful Mexican food.
Unfortunately I had a bad experience at this restaurant. Every employee I encountered seemed stressed out and uninterested; as if they were waiting for the seconds to count down until they leave. We were sat at a table that was certainly unwashed with salsa stains and even a wine glass that was used! In addition our table was right by a dish station where waiters/waitresses dropped off dirty dishes with considerable noise. The food was absolutely nothing to comment on. The absolute worst was the refried beans, which were similar to a milkshake-like consistency. Other than that, the food seemed bland, thrown together carelessly and unflattering. I realize they do not charge gourmet prices, however considering their prices I would have greatly preferred taco bell or mighty taco! I can only hope that I caught this restaurant during the perfect storm of poor operation and the experience of others will be different. I will not be returning to this restaurant, and I feel your money, time and business should be directed elsewhere.
Food was good but service was so slow. From the time to ordering to food on the table was 40 minutes. On top of it, our waiter was a mess and just not efficient. Bringing the check/picking it up/refilling our drinks took way too long. He would be off doing something else, like hang at the bar. But the food was good.
Omg it was soooo good.. SOOOOO much flavor. Me and my wife have been going the last month or so to a Saturday night Mexican dish. And this has been my favorite spot so far!!! Highly recommended!!! Their queso cheese, its homemade. Omg its SOOOOO good. So if you want authentic flavor full Mexican food. Definitely go to la tolteca!!!!
Loud, busy but delicious. The pricing is EXTREMELY reasonable, they serve mixed drinks at a fair price and the food is AMAZING! Try the pork carnitas. I think its #217 on the menu. You will not be disappointed. The attention to detail in this dish - and the time it takes to cook carnitas, are clearly on display here. Bring friends because this place is a celebration waiting to happen!
Never disappointing. Our server (Jim) was upbeat, knowledgeable and attentive. His nice personality made this fussy groups (incl 3 rambunctious youngsers) visit stress-free and all smiles. Complimentary chips light & crisp, addictive super fresh salsa.Dont be afraid to adventure out from your norms when ordering- its always been a delicious surprise. Generous servings; for us, half goes home to re-enjoy the next day. Double the pleasure.
What a nice place! Had a great lunch. The place was absolutely PACKED and I think there were 3 wait staff working- let me tell you, they were hustling and it didnt diminish the quality of service, food or the experience one bit! By the way, they make a MEAN Margarita!
Ive been to a lot of Mexican restaurants, and this one is well below average. Start with the salsa and chips. The chips do not taste fresh, the salsa is more like tomato soup. Then theres the fajitas, with dry and flavorless meat. Thankfully, the hot sauce was good. Another plus is the beer was cold.
The decor is nice, if not a little stereotypical, the food was average and the service was not great. If you have a favorite place then I would suggest you stick with them and if you are looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try out this place is OK in every sense of the term. The best thing I can say about this place is we gt our food fast and the bar is nice, big and well stocked.
This is a pretty good outpost of the La Tolteca chain, which is a itself a passable Mexican chain. Low expectations help, but really the service was good and the food hit the spot after a wet walk on the rain from the nearby Supercharger. The vegetarian enchiladas were really quite good!
My friend and i brought the kids today it says here is kids friendly my daughter that will be 2 years old next month and the other kid that is 5 years old got kick out of the restaurant for being too •loud• they was playing at the table with dinosaurs toys and eating their favorite rice when in the middle of their dinner a couple yell at them a the husband stick the middle finger at the kids and us the lady curse out the kids and we told them they just kids playing the manager came and told us rudely with attitude if we cant keep it down to leave the restaurant he had a lot of attitude their was an assistant manager that was able to calm us down we was very upset with the situation because that manager let the kids be treated that way she was really nice assistant manager but the manager still kick us out we will never calm back here again they lost good customers my daughter innocently doesn’t know what’s going on that she stand up from the table while we was living n wave bye to them kids should never be treated this way.....
This restaurant offered the worst service Ive had at a restaurant ever. The food was decent but took absolutely FOREVER to arrive at the table. The waitress didnt check to refill drinks, chips or salsa, even when at the table to take our food order, the salsa was empty and she didnt ask if we wanted more. When she finally dropped off the queso dip we ordered, after a long wait, the chips were almost empty and she didnt bring more to go with what she just brought out. Are we supposed to eat queso with a spoon like soup? We sat there with empty glasses for almost 20 minutes after asking for new drinks. We asked for a refill on salsa and after waiting about 20 minutes again we finally decided to get up and go to the bar to ask for some. When she did end up bringing it to the table we politely said thank you to no response, not even so much as eye contact or a your welcome or anything. The time between walking in the door and finally receiving our food was about 2 hours, and there were plenty of empty tables, it was not due to being busy. Anytime we saw our waitress she was leaning against a wall chit chatting doing nothing, even when we were waiting for our credit card to be brought back to the table after paying. Awful service, we wont be going back there again.
Grew up in Southern California and have lived in Buffalo area for 21 yrs...This place is authentic Mexican just like California Mex Cuisine! Have tried other restaurants as they have come and gone but La Tolteca has been here at same location for a long time. Food is delicious with great presentation and the service has been always great for my Family. I have never had a bad or close to it experience and I would recommend to anybody if they dont know what AUTHENTIC really means. Dont pay attention to other other reviews because you cant please everybody all the time regardless of what you do ;) * Ask if Denise or Karen are working and that you want to sit in their section if possible and you will have awesome service with true Mexican hospitality!
Went for lunch, the staff was busy. That said, our waiter was brief and seemed unhappy our stressed out. Service was slow and my group was nearly late getting back to work. I ordered a Speedy Gonzales and it was mediocre at best. The taco was so soggy it was nearly soup, I hate soggy tacos! The rice was bland and the enchilada unremarkable. The waiter also did not get me a receipt and when I asked about it he dug it out of the trash. Will not visit again, too many better options in the area.
2 employees working at 4pm on a Monday, the day after Christmas. Maybe 5 tables eating in the restaurant. The employee came over and said that it would be a 15 minute wait while him and the other server caught up I watched while they talked the whole time chatted with their tables and didnt clean one table for a good 10 minutes. They easily couldve sat us gave us chips and drinks and told us theyd be right with us. But no, they lost our table of 4, another table of 3 and a table of 5 all who were waiting and left, probably over $200 they didnt care about. Absolutely unacceptable. The sad part is, with the closing of El Agave there arent too many good Mexican restaurants out there anymore.
This is a good place to go for lunch. They have lunch-sized portions and if you go after 1 pm, it is not crowded. We started with a basket of chips and salsa, which was just spicy enough. I had a fried chimichanga with beef tips. It was cover with queso, guacamole, lettuce and sour cream. I would have asked for guac on the side, if I had noticed that the menu said it was included. I was able to substitute rice for the beans. Everything tasted good. My husband also enjoyed his Enchilada Poblanas. He said the mole sauce was very good.
Worst taco salad ever!! You would think that because I got no shell, light tomatoes, & wanted no complimentary chips. I would have gotten extra meat, maybe lettuce, something, but nope...& im still trying to figure out why no black olives reside here, what is a taco salad without them?? A sad Friday for me, as I only eat one meal & day, & that little bowl of sadness, was it for me, till Saturday. I will steer clear of this place!!

2022-06-14Early dinner. The service was great but our margaritas were warm. So weird. Happy hour pricing maybe thats why? Loved the chips and salsa, added on queso which was good too. 2 enchilada dinners ordered both came out looking great! My verde was naked! I like the lettuce, pico, sour cream garnish so I got it as an add on. All and all a filling, great tasting meal.

2021-12-01Great lunch specials. Chips and salsa for the table. Had the chicken chimichanga this time, but had the burrito last time. Both were very good. Beans and rice, especially the rice were good.

2022-02-13First time at this restaurant, passing thru We were hungry and love mex food decided to try this place. My experience here was not that great , Decor is nice, it reminds me another fav rest we go often in Fort Wayne,IN. Got to the door took a minute for someone to sit us, staff seems not so friendly like many other places I been. Im a former Flight Attendant I been in many places maybe is the East Coast personality who knows? The Guacamole was not the best , the food was ok, my carnitas was a bit salty, if Chef Ramsey was at this place he might even fail them. But there is room for improvement. Got a margarita it was ok also. We left the place with some many disappoitment , since we love mex food, and saw past reviews were excited to give a try but it turns out to be a total fail for us.

2022-02-03Today was my first visit. The food and service was great but I had to take away 1 star because my margarita was pleasing to the eyes but seemed to be missing the alcohol taste. I will definitely go again but will ask for a extra shot in my drink to give it the flavor it should have.

2021-03-02(Please like and follow if this was helpful :) )I cannot tell if it is an authentic mexican as I have never been to Mexico before. But servers were friendly and professional. I felt like they tried their best to provide the best service.Food was good but my dish, gravy sauce like food, was a bit salty. Another one was tasty.Rice with corns was excellent!

2022-05-07My wife and I eat here on occasion. We have no complaints. The food is aways good, always HOT when it comes out. The prices are reasonable, about what youd expect. Service is ok. Nothing to complain about, but nothing that stands out as exceptional. Well be going back!!

2022-05-05The dishes are too heavy in my taste. Too salty in general. Tapas are not what I expected, deep fried with tortillas. Cheesy sauce is pretty good tho. Services’ fast and good even when it’s busy.
