Lake Effect Ice Cream in other cities:
Perfect ice cream retreat for the summer :) A good place with quality ice creams and sundaes, lot of choices. Interesting ice cream flavors too. Quite crowded and long waiting lines and service is a bit slow but worth the wait in the end. There are benches to sit out in the open air too.
Got an amazing butter lamb cake here for Easter! Preordered it and it was ready for pickup up until, and including, Easter Sunday. I really appreciate the open hours as its very accommodating to my work schedule. Every icecream Ive had from here is delicious! Thank you!
Such wonderful flavors to choose from, with many different options for how its delivered in the bowl. Sundaes, samplers, create-your-own and so much more. My girlfriend loved the Butterbeer flavor (shes a giant Harry Potter fan) and I was blown away by the chocolate peanut butter. And there are so many others to choose from. Wonderful option for a warm summer night.
This place is amazing. For artisan / specialty icecream this place is absolutely amazing. Prices are reasonable. Quality is unbelievable. Missed out on the icecream buttered lamb but have something to look forward to next year. Get the Paulas doughnuts red velvet icecream. It will rock your world.
Its always difficult to find anything negative about an ice cream shop and this place isnt an exception. The only downside I could find was that the menu is difficult to read until you get up close. Staff was nice and generally seemed liked they enjoy working there. Menu has something for everyone. The sundae I got had the perfect combination of sauce, toppings and ice cream. A little over $7 for three large scoops which is more than reasonable for what I got (especially if you compare to other ice cream tradeoffs) . Ill be back again.
Such an adorable spot to try endless options of creative ice cream flavors! Theres seating out doors which makes it a perfect date with a friend, delicious ice cream and a sunny day, cant get better than that. If you are with a friend, I highly recommend getting the flight of 5! Between two people you share the calories and get to try 5 flavors at once! My personal favorite are the coffee and the one with an earl grey flavor. Definitely try this spot out! This place has a hype and it definitely exceeds that hype!
Awesome ice cream and specialty Sundae selection. However, they need to do something about the garbage cans outside. They need sealed ones that the door flap closes tightly. Went there with 5 kids, swarmed by bees, and when I say swarmed, I mean at least 5 landing on each persons ice cream and swarming our faces. Couldnt even enjoy our ice cream. It melted all over while we were scrambling to walk down the street to eat our ice cream in the grass. ALSO, who the **** serves ice cream on PLATES !?!?!?!?!?!?!?
My friend ordered 3 scoops of Butterbeer and he was not only surprised by how big scoops they give but how amazing it was! It tastes like “yogurt on crack”, it tastes like a flavor I can’t name but haven’t tasted in years.Love the quality of the ice cream, overall great place.
A couple of days ago I took my daughters to get ice cream, they had milkshakes and I had a ice cream. We all enjoyed what we had and I love the location. For all these reasons I have them 4 stars. Later that night I check my emails and saw that they charged me 2 different taxes, the regular sales tax 8.75% AND a clothing tax of 4%.... WTH, Im not sure why they would do that but itll probably be awhile until we go back because their charging extra taxes. 😲😒
Love the ice cream and the unique flavor choices. Always great service from the staff and the outdoor seating is plentiful. Very popular spot in the summer so note that for the pandemic times. My go to flavors are Blue Moon (tastes like fruity pebbles) and Cake Batter.
I wouldn’t have thought after forty four years of living that I could be surprised by ice cream, but this shop takes the sweets to a new level. I ordered the chesterfield sundae and laughed out loud when I received it because it was enormous and delightful. The girls working at the window were very friendly and personable, and the prices are wonderful. This will be a must have every time I’m in Buffalo.
The salty caramel as well as the strawberries and cream ice cream were excellent. The staff was clearly enjoying their jobs. The popiscles were a little less than expected - flavor was lacking intensity and authenticity and texture was too much ice flakes/crystals. This is at least a 5-star place when non-dairy options are added/improved.
Sick of the same flavors of ice cream? Say no more. Lake Effects ice cream is churned and created to produce the most tastiest icecream. Jot the normal run of the meal...try the raspberry truffel or Paulas donut ice cream. Or even try 9 flavors for a small price. This place is smacken!!! Best ice cream ever. Dairy queen move over!!! Me want ice creamm..yum yummmmmmm!
Really liked the ice cream, only problem was the website had the flavors names, but no descriptions about what the flavor was. By the time we got through the menu when we got there another 8 people got infront of us in line. And that was the only negative so all in all pretty amazing. Ill definitely go again next time on Hertal.
A young light skined black lady was very rude after I told her I wanted my ice cream on a cone and not a bowl. The only reason I said something is she did it to the customer before me and she just handed the woman a cone and slammed the window. ( So the woman was supposed to scoop the ice cream on the cone with her fingers? I said miss can you please put mine on a cone as well?Thinking Ill let her know before she does it to me. She rolled her eyes and slammed the window just like she did to the customer before me. My family has been coming to this location for a long time. Customer service has never been like this. Most of the time the girls are very nice and friendly. I dont know if we will be coming back.
Visiting Buffalo area for sports event and family was ready for an evening ice cream indulgence... This place had a great menu, VERY reasonable prices, and a good overall evening atmosphere... Plenty of seating, solid customer service... Will definitely return and highly recommend!
The ratio Cost:Portion is super expensive just for a tennis ball pea size of a small 1 scoop, I could see if a scoop was the size of a medium size apple but it’s not. Their Ice cream is good but almost not worth it if you want to feel satisfied you’ll have to pay some dollars more for another pea scoop.
Got the mystery box today and what a wonderful way to try new products. Chocolate ice cream cannolis, to die for. Everyone in the family got a sweet treat and was thrilled. Staff is always courteous and efficient. Can’t wait to go back. ❤️🍦 ❤️ Oh, and the London Fog ice cream, crazy delicious!
Stopped in to cool off on a warm Fourth of July. My wife was surprised to see that they still served malted shakes. So I got her the London Fog (tea and toffee). I just had a simple waffle cone with two scoops of peanut butter epiphany . Both were delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Adding to our list of places to frequent on our infrequent trips to Buffalo
I ordered a Blue Moon milk shake. I was told it would taste like fruity pebbles and it was amazing! There were some really cool themed ice cream cones covered with colored sprinkles to fit the theme. The service was great, and over all a great place to get delicious ice cream.
This place has amazing Ice Cream... the best flavors. Im glad the main location is up in Niagara County, but this location is great too.Lake Effect Diners owner has been raising a stink about their name being similar, but his one dining car sized location and his britches seem a little too tight for his own good or the communitys. I think hes been pushing too many clouds or something... seems to think hes got a trademark on the weather patterns, I guess.Keep on what youre doing Lake Effect Ice Cream. Miss your Gin and Juice Sherbet!
This place was amazing. With a ton of really unique flavors, it was a cute little building with friendly, busy staff and delicious ice cream. We all got different flavors and it may have been the best ice cream I had had in quite a while. Would definitely recommend. And cant wait to go back!!
At the end of 2016 into 2017 there seemed to be an explosion of ice cream shops around Buffalo. There have always been ice cream shops in Buffalo, but now they seemed to be crawling out of the woodwork - and a lot of them were good... But Lake Effect is the best. When they say a flavor of their ice cream tastes like X, it tastes like X. The ice cream itself has perfect consistency and is super tasty... Do yourself a favor and try them all, but if you have to choose one, make it Lake Effect.
You think you have experienced every possible combo of ice cream until you experience Lake Effect. This little roadside stand is the perfect date night stop or place to cool down on a hot summer day. The ice cream is local and top notch. There are classic flavors like vanilla, coffee and chocolate and then the adventurous flavors like black sesame, that are surprisingly delicious, especially in one of their artisan sundaes. Lake Effect makes the old fashioned tradition of eating outside on a picnic bench surprising and delicious.
Excellent ice cream! They have super unique flavors and tons of options, but the outside ordering is confusing. The list of ice cream flavors is posted after the ordering window, so you have to get out of line to see it. Unless you can decide what you want as you walk up to the window, which with all the choices would seem impossible.
Very interesting flavors. The ice cream quality is top notch and the scoopers give the right amount of ice cream. Would not say you get a lot of ice cream for your money but the quality makes up for it. Would say that if you dont just want Perrys this is the spot to go to.
Amazing ice cream. Creative flavors and sweet treats. From local favorites like Loganberry to Sponge Candy to tasty twists on old flavors like Salted Caramel and Black Raspberry with Semi Sweet Dark Chocolate. Or maybe you want some ice cream flavors from Harry Potter
Waffle cone was generic and not worth the money. Ice cream was overly sweet and left me feeling sick. Coffee flavor had coffee grounds or something in it which seems like itd be a nice twist to your average coffee ice cream but really just made it gritty and strange to eat. Ended up throwing out over half my cone which really says something cause ice cream is life.
I was really impressed with the menu selection, and the prices when I saw the amount of ice cream I got for just $5. I ordered 3 scoops: Black Sesame (delicious), Whiskey Brown Sugar (Yummy), and Silver Cloud Vanilla (good). I travel with 2 little dogs. One wasnt interested in the ice-cream at all, and shes very finicky. The other one loves the Black Sesame. This is a chain ice-cream shop in NY, and after talking to the owner, I learned that the ice-cream are made with factory farming cow milk. I have visited many creameries on my travel, and I prefer consuming ice-cream that is either non-dairy or what I called, happy cow milk ice-cream, where the cows are roam free on pasture and are on a healthy diet. Factory Farmed animals live a very sad life, and often, they get abused by the factory workers. I was happy to learn that the owner is trying to move to pasture raised, but it will take some times because of the increase in cost in addition to increase cost of labor ($15 minimum wage) and the clientele is mostly blue collar. Which is all understandable.
This is not your average vanilla ice cream place. Go for incredible flavors like vanilla Chai tea or Hot chocolate chocolate, a peanut butter ice cream whipped smooth, or salty caramel. And, whats better than donuts in your ice cream? Rotating flavors, flights of five, sundaes and cakes. Try them all!
Lake Effect truly deserves the title of artisan that is in its name. The flavors here are the benchmark for creativity. Any parlor that can mix Paulas Donuts in ice cream or make black sesame taste delicious deserves praise. With the many different cone and sundae options, the presentation is also top notch. The best part is everything is local by people from the region. The prices may be a little higher than your average scoop, but the quality matches it 100%. Whether you live in the area or are visiting, Lake Effect is a must-visit spot.
Ok ice cream, but for some reason the lady at the front register wanted to charge me for a large shake instead of a regular when they ran out of regular sized shake cups. Then refused to put the contents of a regular shake in a large sized cup, just to charge me extra. It didnt make any sense what so ever. Its not like the shakes are pre made, she could have easily made a regular shake and poured it in a large cup, since thats all they supposedly had and charged me a regular price. Disappointed 😞.
Very creative presentation, almost too good to eat. Notice I said, ALMOST. It tasted even better. You know the type of flavor that makes an unforgettable impression on your taste buds. Or as my dad likes to say, Its so good, it hurt my feelings. The ice cream was a tad bit pricey, and yet...this fresh specialty dessert is sooo worth it, especially if youve never been.
Still one of Buffalos best. Sharing Hertel with both Churn and Poutine&Cream makes for a hard choice on what to do for ice cream as all three provide such unique and delicious offerings. For Lake Effects sake, the diversity of their flavors is unmatched, and once you find that one flavor you love it sticks with you for good. Peanut Butter epiphany is in my opinion the best peanut butter ice cream ever made. If you want a taste of Buffalo with your dessert this is absolutely the place to go.
Not enough good things can be said about Lake Effect Ice Cream. This location has struggled for years to keep a business open; but a known company like Lake Effect seems to have no problem at all. The flavors are far and away the most interesting in the city, and everything is executed perfectly. Whether its a more delicate earl grey, or the most over-the-top ham-fisted peanut butter ice cream youll ever taste, everything is a 10.
Just off of main Street in north buffalo this location is an iconic Buffalo restaurant, the food is always amazing and their ice cream selection is quite unique, however due to its location parking is limited and wait times can get long. Easy enough to find but with the college near by and several other food stops the area can be very crowded!
Best place for ice cream. Super creamy- you can taste the difference. Cant wait to try more of their signature sundays! Their vanilla chai flavor is light and refreshing. Strawberry is fresh and sweet, and chocolate is perfect. Must go place for any serious icecream lover.
Goddamnit their ice cream is amazing. From top left going clockwise: black sesame, vanilla chai, salty caramel corn, Revolution coffee, and peach and mascarpone. Some vegan, some GF, all delicious. Literally everything they make is a sublime experience for your taste buds. Run there now!
I used to go to the location in Lockport but it was always such a long drive from Amherst, but now with this location on Hertel its only about a 5 minute drive from my house and well worth it! I have lots of favorites here and still more to try, Id stay this place is better the Andersons and Dairy Queen hands down Keep up the good work guys!Blue Table Trio is Amazing!
Butterbeer Milkshakes, Tennessee Whiskey & Brown Sugar Ice Cream in a house-made waffle cone, plus a couple dozen other options of similar creativity and quality that words alone cant do justice to (try an ice cream flight!). Theres a reason that theres always a line ;-)

2022-04-23The absolute best ice cream in Western NY.Some flavors I highly recommend are:Peanut Butter Epiphany - I dont even like peanut butter, but this smooth and creamy peanut-y goodness is a must have.Black Raspberry Truffle - if you like Perrys black raspberry, Lake Effects will make you re-evaluate your entire life. Its so delicious, creamy, raspberry goodness with bits of dark chocolate.Whiskey Brown Sugar - creamy alcohol flavored deliciously yum!Meyer Lemon - it was a 2021 flavor that I really hope they bring back. It reminded me of a lemon cheesecake. I highly recommend this flavor in milkshake form. There are many more flavors, ice cream cakes, sundaes, cones. I usually order pints that you can request in any available flavor. Its worth the trip.

2022-04-25Very good ice cream, decent price. Not as big of scoops as I would like, but nonetheless very tasty. I 1000% recommend the loganberry. Kinda sad that the london fog had toffee for it is something I dislike, but next time I go, I may get some just to try it out. Can get extremely busy though, but it makes sense.

2021-07-24This is a spot that you can’t and cont want to ignore since there are always ppl around. I had the flight to try all the flavors that I’m interested in. They are soooo thick and creamy. Personally love the Date one a lot and the whiskey.

2022-07-22The ice cream is always delicious and hard to choose what to try each time. This past visit was odd as we were over charged for an extra cone. I showed the digital receipt to the cashier and she refunded me. Felt weird but hopefully it was an honest mistake. Its now a WNY staple for gourmet ice-cream.

2021-05-09Lake Effect is easily one of the BEST places for ice cream in the Buffalo, NY area. My husband and I love ice cream and weve tried many places, but Lake Effect has always been right at the top of the list. They have a large variety of ice creams that are delicious and packed full of flavor. My husband loves the cake batter, vanilla and coffee flavors and I love the black raspberry truffle, peanut butter epiphany, and sponge candy flavors... However, I think weve had them all and they are all amazing and delicious! If you cant decide, you can even order a flight! If you love ice cream and have never been to Lake Effect, do yourself a favor and get your butt over there! ❤️

2018-08-19What a hidden gem. I am from Toronto and was craving some good ice cream and found this place. I will come here everyone I make a trip to Buffalo now. The creative flavours are something you wont get anywhere else. The donut ice cream tastes like donuts and has donut chunks in it. Mind-blowing. The black sesame flavour was also a favourite with a strong sesame flavour and not too sweet. The scoops are huge, creamy, and the price cant be beat. 6 scoops for less than $10! Cant wait to come back and try all the flavours.
