Very nice owner with a nice spacious and clean restaurant. Even the restroom was spacious and wheelchair accessible. I had the lamb lunch which was tasty and a good portion of food. There eventually will have a liquor license for a fully functional bar. Outdoor seating. Check it out. Support out restaurant industry.
First time eating Ethiopian food and Lalibela did not disappoint! I got the lamb cooked in wine and peppers and my husband ordered the veggie combo and it was soooo good. Everything was tasty and full of different flavors! Also as you can see the colors are wonderful, very appetizing. We have always wanted to try Ethiopian food and was honestly unsure what to expect, but this place was clean, staff were helpful and patient and will definitely be recommending friends to try them out!
Fantastic experience! Fantastic food! Clean and spacious. Excellent customer service! We ordered the veggie platter and one of the lamb entrees with beets and lentils. It was delicious. Ive never had Ethiopian food before, so when I went in I let the guy know immediately and after my food was ready he identified all the different foods for me and showed me how to eat them. I just wish i lived closer.
The owner is rude. I ordered delivery and three hours later the food had not arrived. I called the establishment and the owner blamed Google and the delivery person, and he refused to provide a replacement for the lost meal.I have been in the restaurant business, the cost of the food is negligible, mistreating a costumer is inexcusable. This used to be a fine restaurant when it was called Zoma. The previous owner was always charming and attentive. This has all changed.I had eaten there with my family under the new ownership and we all felt sick the next day. I discarded the episode; accidents happen. However, after I was disrespected and harassed by the owner, I have concluded that it was not an accident. a person who does not care about the well being of his costumers cannot be trusted to make our food.
ነይ ጉድሽን ስሚ! ቅሌት!!As a white person, I’d give this a 5, but as an Ethiopian I give this a 0. The average of that is 2.5 and that’s what I’m giving.First of all the food is not spiced at all. The misir tastes like tomato paste and lentils, the spice ratio is all types of wrong for the Tibs (literally the easiest Ethiopian dish to make!!) and a white person could have made better butter than the one used here for the kitfo. On top of all this, you have to pay an EXTRA AMOUNT for more injera. It’s not even about the money I know nyc is expensive. But it is extremely disrespectful to penalize someone for not finishing their food in Ethiopian culture. It is rude if you’re hosting someone in Ethiopian cuisine if the bottom of the plate shows and you don’t have more injera to cover it. Most Ethio restaurants recognize this and don’t charge for extra servings of injera, let alone the King Arthur White Unbleached Flour injera they serve here (hint: injera is made from Teff and/or barley flour). Charge more for the dishes to cover thecosts if you must.Let’s not even get into the waitress not ever checking in on us.All in all, if you want a mild taste of Ethiopian cuisine you’ve never had before, this is a good (🥴) start. If you are habesha and craving habesha food, crave something else because you will not find it here nor anywhere in this city.Butttt this in the gentrified part of Harlem tho so I guess keep finessing them white folk 🤪
Delicious, bursting with flavor and very fresh! Hospitable service and calm ambiance outdoors. Well priced for what you are getting. Best Ethiopian food I’ve had in the city so far. Try the Kifto raw! Tasty spice exactly like the benchmark in Ethiopia. Will be coming back!
Been there several times over the past few years. As of March, 2021, management has just changed and quality is not as good as before, but they are just getting started. I am sure my next time will be better and I look forward to it. I am really very glad that Ethiopian food is still there at that corner despite the pandemic. If you go there, walk to Dulceria
DO NOT GO!!!!Customer service is absolutely unacceptable!!!! Very rude and hang up the phone 2 times on purpose on me.I ordered Uber eats and after the driver went to the restaurant to pick up my order, the lady that is working asked him to call me and tell me to add more order other wise she won’t give him my order. I didn’t want to order more and she said you can cancel the order and hang up the phone on me.I called back the restaurant and she said she doesn’t have time to argue with me and hang up again.Never again ordering from them… the food is not that good either. Tsion restaurant and Binyam restaurant had more authentic Ethiopian food.
I came here for dinner the other night with friends. Food was great! We got a meat sampler and a veggie sampler with some samusas. The reason I gave 4/5 stars is that they put the veggie and the meat on the same plate and my friends are vegetarian. I think next time they should ask being doing such as a lot of vegetarians cannot have meat on the same plate.Other note - bring a jacket! There are no heaters here for outdoor dining so it gets a bit cold for dinner.I’ll definitely be back!

2022-04-19Nice Ethiopian. My first time having this cuisine in NYC!The decor is clean and minimal, but it works. This evening their was only one lady in the front managing all the tables. Being a Monday night not very busy. She was friendly and helpful explaining the menu and making recommendations. We ordered 2 appetisers and 3 mains between three of us. The portions are quite big and we landed up eating a lot as the food was delicious!!Would highly recommend this place… and will surely plan to visit again!

2022-06-19Authentic Ethiopian cuisine with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. The ambiance is stark and open which gives the restaurant a clean and light atmosphere. The vegetable sambusa was served with a hot green sauce that was super spicy and delicious. My family shares the vegetable combo which is plenty of food for 2 adults and 2 kids with a variety of flavors. Highly recommended spot that I will definitely go back to. There is a full bar and outdoor seating as well.

2022-04-18Unpretentious restaurant with a quiet and relaxed vibe. The food was phenomenal. I had the vegetable Sambusa and the Kifto cooked medium rare. Perfectly spiced combination of flavors. Going back soon to try other items.Staff is very friendly. This is slow food cooked to order so be patient!

2022-07-12A jewel of a place in Harlem. The food was Ah-mazing! Authentic Ethiopian cuisine served in a quaint setting just two blocks away from Morningside Park. Excellent lunch or dinner spot. I would not be surprised to see this chef on a cooking show in the future. Must eat. #nyc #goodeats #foodies

2021-07-28This was my second time eating Ethiopian food, although not an expert it was amazing. So much food and so tasty. I tried the lamb and four different vegetables. I do not eat lentils, but their lentils definitely made me change my mind.

2022-07-25Really fantastic food...everything had a ton of flavor. First time for Ethiopian food for my 11 year old, and he raved to the waiter that it was the best meal hed had in NYC. Service was ok. Ambiance and AC leave quite a bit to be desired.

2021-07-21I am not a picky eater but I am very particular about the quality of the food I eat. Everything at Lalibela was extremely fresh and enjoyable starting with the Tomato Avocado Salad and culminating with the Cabbage. The pastry of the Sambusa was perfectly flaky and not greasy or oily in the least; every bite was a perfect combination of flaky pastry and deliciously seasoned meat. The lamb in the Lalibela Special Tibs was cooked to perfection. What also made this experience enjoyable is the atmosphere… this is an unpretentious family owned / neighborhood restaurant and you immediately get that welcoming feeling as you walk in. The staff is lovely, accommodating, and very happy to provide recommendations. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend you give Lalibela a try.
