I decided to stop in this diner for dinner. There is parking available for customers. We ordered:Starters: New England clam chowder, was not as hearty and thick as I am used to.2 crab cakes, they were decent, fresh broccoli cooked to perfection, salad and a baked sweet potato (I liked that they had available the sweet potatoe instead of the usual white potatoes)French toast (4 huge slices), decent and well done, hash brown which were a little under cooked for my taste but my daughter liked them. They were served with real butter and hot syrup.Egg and ham omelette with home fries and sausage all done well. The portions are substantial. We took home half of all our meals. I liked the fact that they bring you containers to bag the take home yourself. The layout of this diner accommodates those who want seating in booths or open tables. It can certainly accommodate large groups, whether its a quick birthday celebration or busines group luncheon/dinner.The space is clean open. The hostess who greeted us immediately upon entering was very nice. Our waiter Jose was amazing. He answered all questions were asked about menu items with confidence. He was very attentive, pleasant and professional (great job lantern diner for hire a true professional! )I took a star away for the restrooms for its lack of cleanliness. This was surprising to me especially considering how nice the dining area is.If youre in the area and looking for a diner, its worth stopping in, besides they are open 24hrs!
Like many businesses on Long Island, the Lantern Diner has clearly been affected by the pandemic and might be struggling to keep its doors open. I encourage anyone in the area to drop by and give them some business. The waitstaff was kind and courteous, the food came out quickly and was cooked exactly how we asked.
Very nice waiters 🥰. this environment is kind of empty. So if you’re looking for peace and quiet then this is your place. I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries & Mac and cheese. I liked the burger but the bread was dry. It did not have enough cheese on the burger. And the burger was also kind of hard. Their Mac and cheese is delicious though.
My family and I refer to Lantern as our trusty diner because they always have great service (special shout out to the gentleman who served us on Christmas Eve 2021... spectacular service!!! I regret that I forgot his name...too much going on around that time in my personal life...but I will never forget how exceptional he was) and always have great food. We never have a long wait to be seated or to be served. We have been patronizing Latern Diner for over 20 years and are confident we will continue to do so for years to come.
Went for breakfast this morning with my friend. I can’t even tell you how good the food and service were. At first, we were a little hesitant because of some reviews, but we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all! I had the corned beef hash and it tasted sooo good! We asked and they told us it was homemade. My friend had the avocado toast and she told me it was really good as well! Will definitely come again!
Ill start by saying the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Ultimately I enjoyed my meal but the first time I got my omelette it had bacon in it and I am a vegetarian. If I hadnt noticed before I are it I would have been very upset. The food is home cooked but its nothing to special. It is classic diner food and I would visit again but Im still on the hunt for a better diner.
Love this place. The servers are all so friendly and welcoming. The coffee is amazing and the food is phenomenal! I especially love the freshly home made corned beef hash. Its a must try for anyone that likes corned beef hash. The Irish coffee is another thing to try.
Seems like this place is racist , workers are rude and just saw a video where they yelled at a black woman after making her wait over 45 mins for food . Black people spend your money with black owned businesses . Period let these owners feels what it’s like not to have the black dollar . Ridiculous . The video is all over YouTube . Poor customer service .
Like every restaurant they suffer a scar from this epidemic. The place was sparsely populated with customers but our table and the utencils were clean. Service friendly and excellent. My son, a service member and his wife and two kids took me there for breakfast. I enjoyed my bacon and egg with pancakes, son had mushrooms with his eggs, his wife had eggs medium well whole wheat toast, kids had oatmeal and milk. We enjoyed the meals and friendly service.
Too crowded. Good service. People kept walking next to us which was not a nice experience we didnt have much space where we were sitting so I recommend not to see in the middle seatings. Food was not as good as expected, Im not a fan of diners because of the way food is handle but it was a lot of food, it didnt even fit in our very small table. Not that tasty the only thing I love of my plate was the chicken but it was not cooked enough. The ribs did not taste fresh. I was overwhelmed by their menu so I choose a dinner special so I would get dessert and sufficient food. My son had the chicken fingers and he loved them! The bread was all his and he said it was delicious as well as the fries that tasted fresh and natural. I didnt like the cake as much, I had German chocolate. For some reason it tasted weird in the end, I felt they added licor or something. With chocolate cake you either go so good or so bad. I would come back to try another chocolate cake from their variety of options and maybe have a brunch. Will give then another chance just because they were so nice to us.
Had a sick family member who wanted some Matzoh ball soup. I ordered through UBER EATS and Uber Eats incorrectly sent my order to the Lantern diner. I immediately called the diner because i could see right away on the order summary that it was submitted incorrectly from Uber and all i wanted to do is inform management that Uber did this to see if they could have UE fix it for them . The Manager Marianna drove to my house with the right order. Thank you for being so awesome
I called to ask if an order was ready and the person on the phone had an attitude and started screaming at me saying don’t call here no more I’m too busy to answer question and hangs up the phone VERY UNPROFESSIONAL never order form this place it’s filthy and the food sucks.
Had late dinner here with brother and sil.Burger deluxe was as expected...but the slaw and pickle were great. The fries were thick cut and fresh (nothing negative about the meal). Have had many good meals here when visiting. Got a huge chocolate chip cookie for midnight snack .😀
Came here once for a to-go experience and was fine with the food. Today, I went there and had a terrible experience with the service and the tuna sandwich. I had ordered the lamb from the dinner menu and it came with soup and other extras. I ordered the potato leak soup. After a while I realized it had pork in it (did not know about it & cant eat pork) so I changed it to split pea which was not bad for taste. After waiting for the lamb for a good while, the server told me they dont have lamb in the end. Now, I was stuck with ordering something from the menu that came with soup and other things. However, the specific dinner menu didnt interest me so I ordered a tuna salad and told the server Ill just pay seperately for the soup & tea that I already had upon waiting on the lamb. Next, after a good while of waiting, tuna salad sandwich didnt come out and instead she brought out chicken salad sandwich. So I told her the order was incorrect and she took the plate back. Later, she was telling me chicken salad & tuna salad looks the same (no it does not look the same) so she couldnt tell and also because shes not aloud to touch the food. I had waited again and now the tuna salad sandwich looked like someone just dumped it on some bread (looked very sloppy to me) but whatever I was tired of all this. The only complaint about food I have is that their tuna salad didnt taste good as I had hoped for after all the wait and mishaps. The whole appetite was just gone for a hungry person! All the long waiting on food, lateness in notifying, bringing out the wrong food, look & taste of the sandwich ruined my entire experience. I did however tell the manager when she came to check up on me and she apologized. She said they have a new person in the kitchen which is why there may have been so many mishaps. I guess I will give this place another try a couple of months down the road when their kitchen staff is up to date? Only then, my ratings shall change.
Absolutely disgusting service!! They were extremely rude to me and my 2 small children. I waited over 25 minutes for a waiter and when they finally came to my table they were rude and dismissive to my questions being that it was first time there. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE!!! Proceed with CAUTION ⚠️⚠️⚠️
AWEFUL I never complain and always try to play devils advocate but the other night we went to eat at the Lantern Diner. The waiter brought out a beet salad that we swear had a bit beet in it, my water glass had lipstick on the rim (which is not uncommon, so I just sent it back) but I ordered a Keto Bomb to go for my son, which is turkey, bacon and avocado on lettuce wrap. He ate it at like 11:30 pm Wednesday night and has been extremely sick since. He started throwing up 9 am yesterday, and diarrhea since. I just called the diner to let the manager know and he was rude and saying that there was no way the diner food got him sick and proceeded to talk to me in a condescending way asking me if I understand how food poisoning and food storage works. I will never go there again. We have been going there since we moved here almost 12 years ago. I am extremely disappointed in how the manager reacted. That place really had gone down hill.
This place was terrible. The food was poor and the service was rude. The first time we ordered the food was cold and there were mistakes with the substitutions. The second time we ordered delivery it never came. We waited an hour and a half before calling back. The person on the phone was genuinely horrible. She was beyond rude, insulting, literally laughing at us over the phone with her coworkers. Will never order from this place again. Be warned.
This is the least responsible interaction I’ve had with a diner. They completely did not give us half of our meal after us double checking with the pick up. We called to ask what happened once we checked back home. They wouldn’t even give us a refund for the item which never left their establishment when asked over the phone. They tossed it off to Grubhub. They had our number and could have mentioned a bag was left behind or they could have checked the ticket on the way out which in a big red circle had the item that was left behind and next to it was writing with a big 1 of 2 in red marker. Never ordering from this place again.
I used to always come here with my mother for the delicious breakfasts from omelettes to french toast, but after a single lunch break, I was sold on coming at other times. The flatbread sandwiches and burgers are delicious. The service is always so nice as well. They really care about their customers.
This was my second time here. The service was very poor both times, worse the second time. The waiter practically ignored us. He rarely came by to see how we were, and I eventually had to flag him down to get a refill on my drink. The food was not correct, the onions on my burger were raw instead of carmelized, as per the description on the menu. The bun was too thick and dry. My fries were not well done as I had requested. It did not include bbq sauce which was also mentioned in the menu description. Worst of all, there was a foreign hair on my plate. The staff apologized several times, but honestly there is not a chance that I will be returning here.
Good diner food. Curios though as to why they don’t open the main dining room and would rather cram people in the smaller section. During Covid I don’t understand how that makes sense. We have called several times in advance to ask if the main dining room was open and were told no, so we went elsewhere.
Service was terrible. took 10 mins plus just to be aknowledged as a table then another 20mins to get water and silverware. food was just ok nothing special. host was rude when i went to pay stating that the line was on the other side when i was waiting to pay behind the glass and proceeded to assist others waiting on other side. as if i should know that the line was off to the side and not where the glass is clearly there to pay. wont be returning.
They have excellent fast and friendly service. The waiters are very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious and served hot in a timely manner. There is also never a rush for you to leave and you can still enjoy the environment even after having finished your meal. Truly a great place.
This place is phenomenal! The food tastes and looks fresh. The prices are great, and the customer service is amazing. If youre in the area, definitely make the trip!1/13/17I havent been here since my last visit and I am very dissapointed at my service this day. The waiter made a mistake making our order and when I asked for a change of my food he said he couldnt. He called his manager who was very well spoken and understood the incident. She fixed my meal price and I respect it very much. Hopefully the next time I come I get the amazing service I hoped for.
The first time we went there, the service was awesome. The prices are expensive for a diner but the first time it was a lot of food so it was worth it. The second time will be our last. The service was horrible and the food a little bit. Never again will we go. The service was so bad, we hardly saw our server.
This diner is hands-down the best !!! Has one of the largest menus. The management is awesome. The food is always fresh and tasty. The service is excellent. The servers are professional, friendly, and efficient. You owe it to yourself to dine here. Also, the parking lot is large.
I understand COVID is happening and you are trying to save money but serving bad food is not the way to go. Bacon not good oatmeal cold and tasted like it was made at 3in the morning. I tell them take the bacon off the bill and he like fights with me the manager. He then walks back to the table with a “newer” bacon and my husband flipped like get away then the girl comes over why? I don’t know because she didn’t solve the issue. Your character has nothing to do with the issue that the food is inedible! Yea I still paid after the Greek guy calls me a liar! Never again I was annoyed
Very good diner. Menu is bigger than most other diners Ive been to. Everything from bagels to full dinner specials, including Mexican food and paninis. Lots of tables and booths so generally never a long wait. Large dining area with a really nice huge fish tank. Service is fine. Prices are reasonable. Very good kids menu also.
The food arrived after an entire hour of waiting and the place wasnt even that busy. Id care less if the food wasnt overpriced. We got mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they were almost $10. I assumed wed get a sizable amount, nope. Only 4 mozzarella that may as well have been frozen.
Had hungryman breakfast. Coffee was good not burnt. Bacon was crispy not to greasy. Liked the breafast sausage. Two pancakes medium sized. Scrambled eggs were cooked well not dried. Portions a bit small for my liking. Prices seemed very cheap. Overall clean decent place. Rating based on one visit.
Went for breakfast on my daughters request and was served on by a waiter named Brendan. He was the kindest most respectful waiter I have ever remember in all my years.I thanked him for his disposition and personally presented him with his well deserved tip. My compliments to his parents for his respectful upbringing and work ethic. The breakfast plates were delicious as well as generous. When my daughter calls again, we will surely be returning and hopefully get the honor of Brendans courteous service.
Overall the visit was ok. The service was subpar. Our waiter didnt bring requested items without additional prompting. The pace of service was slow then fast. We were given our sampler appetizer and 5 minutes later our entrees. Due to the weather, the ceiling was leaking.
Terrible... Friend and I went for breakfast. She ordered omelet with spinach and feta. I ordered poached eggs with fries. She had a glass of orange juice and I asked her tea. I told waiter fries because I never eat onions which are in the home fries. We get order. Her two egg omelet was burnt and dried out. My poached eggs were perfect but I got home fries with onions. Never got tea I ordered. The glass of orange juice was 5.95. Breakfast cost was 31.00 plus 6.00 tip. They will never see me again...
The family has come here several times for get together dinners. We ordered the Greek and Mediterranean wraps, Crab cake special (big enough for 2 people!), Chicken avocado panini and the Cuban. The food was enjoyable and generous in size. Before the meal, the waiter brought bread for the table and individual places of cole slaw and a pickle. The diner is clean, bright and waitstaff is friendly. Water refills were spot on.Thanks for accommodating our family and allowing us to enjoy the time together without rushing us out.I didnt rate at 5 stars as my original order was a burger. As seems to be the cost cutting trend recently, burgers no longer come with fries, youll need to order a separate side for that. Will bump to 5 stars for the return of burger and fries!
I wish I can give this place zero stars it really doesnt deserve any stars, the waiter spill mimosa on my 2000 dollar phone only took our order half way and left in a hurry with us ever finished making our order and the mimosa really tasted like bleach it was really terrible and I never had a bad service in my 20 years of being served
Best diner around west HempsteadPortions are huge and service is greatLantern burger is a must have. 1/2 pound burger if Im correct which is cooked just the way you want and its not overly filling(kinda weird)but a must try.wraps are huge. Stuffed flounder from a diner?well here its cooked amazingly. Staff are really really nice and accomodating even for large parties at the last minute
Clean interior, good service, burger was decent although for the 12oz one they should pick a heartier bun, it was a soggy mess that didnt stand a chance with the large patty. but I was disappointed they didnt say lettuce and tomato on the burger was extra until I got the bill. when I was asked if I wanted it, he made it sound like it was part of it, like just listed it off okay burger with mushrooms, bacon, lettuce and tomato?
We visited this place with my pregnant wife on the way to brooklyn. we had time for brunch and decided to order one brunch for two. we were offered to order additional soup and coffee for a second person. we said that we had enough of what we ordered. after a while the waiter came and said that we have to pay extra $ 5 for the fact that the second person will eat too. we said that we are already paying for our order, but the impudent manager came up and said that we are paying for the wipes and silverware. We were in many diners and nowhere was this. Not a pleasant management and attitude. I regret visiting this place.
Never in my life have I ever encountered such nasty management and overall disgusting service on TWO separate occasions. We have given this place multiple chances and despite a year later, their behavior is still deplorable. Today, after a year of not attending the restaurant, we went back to see if service had changed. Upon entering, we were given the brunch menus and 3 out of the 4 members ofMy family ordered off of it. About 10 minutes later, our waiter, (who was very pleasant) informed us we were given the wrong menu and brunch prices aren’t served on Sundays, only dinner which is about 10 dollars more. The manager came over to us and automatically had a very nasty, condescending attitude. Some of the things she said to us were highly unprofessional, uncalled for and down right nasty. She claimed we should have known that there are no brunch specials on sundays because “we are regular customers”, which is completely false because as I said we had not been there in over a year! And even if this was the case, we should not be responsible for staff mistakes. In addition, she ridiculed my 72 year old grandmother for not “looking her in the eye”. She acted like she was doing my family a favor by even allowing us to eat their food and order off of the more expensive menu. She was not accommodating whatsoever and came off as condescending. Things did get somewhat heated as I will admit, but from the start of the conversation she was very nasty, unwelcoming and dismissive. Why are we supposed to pay more for your mistake? Given everyone has off days but there was no compensation or middle ground offered and barely any sincere remorse for the mistake that would nearly double our paycheck. On top of that, as we were leaving the hostess and the manager were snickering about my family and I in their mother tongue, which we presumed was Greek. Highly unprofessional nasty people. My family and I were regulars of this restaurant for many years and have spent thousands of dollars over the span of FORTY YEARS and have gone out of our way to come here from Valley Stream. Looking at the reviews, I am not the only one with negative experiences with the staff and the management team needs a complete attitude check from my understanding. It’s such a shame that MULTIPLE negative experiences have occurred as their food is very good, but it is made up for by an extremely unwelcoming and pretentious staff. In response to the owner:In my review, I DID state that things got heated very quickly and that one offensive thing we said, which we recognize was uncalled for by the way, was said only after your rude remarks about my grandmother. And half of your response to me is filled with blatant lies about your behavior and what occurred. You’re not going to acknowledge any of the nasty things you said to my family but instead victimize yourself and put the blame entirely on us. We have ALL worked in the customer service industry and understand off days, but the behavior of the owner who was here on this day was frustrating and nasty, because as I said this is the SECOND major problem we’ve had. Our family works hard for their money and this mistake was mitigated AFTER the food was ordered, “not directly after we received the menus”. This would not have been such a big deal if there was a TEN DOLLAR difference between the two menus. If this has been brought to our attention prior to ordering we would have KINDLY taken our business elsewhere. Continuing to fabricate the truth on line to cover up for your lack of customer service and just overall rude comments that you won’t even acknowledge you make. Additionally, with your last point, I’m sure you were trying to indicate my family was trying to get a “free meal”, which is completely disgusting and offensive. I hope you begin to realize your shortcomings as a business and take accountability for what is actually going on. Indeed have a happy holiday and happy new year.-Sunday, November 24th at approximately 2 PM.Edit posted December 1st
The wait staff is hit or miss but the food surely makes up for it. The best smoked lox Benedict Ive had in a while and prepared just as I ordered. What really sold me was how fresh their fruit was. I had a BlackBerry and Mango bowl and it was so fresh and yummy. This isnt even the season for either one and it still tasted like the middle of summer. Will most certainly be returning
**Indoor dining during COVID pandemicLayout/atmosphere*Typical diner setup (booths, tables, counter, etc)Service*OKFood/drink*Avocado Toast (Two poached eggs on English Muffin with avocado & light feta with homefries) - good*Stack of pancakes (three, buttermilk) - good
The service was sucked. Our drinks never came until half way through breakfast. A few sides was forgotten. There was also a mistake made on the check. Once bringing it to the attention of the owner, he didnt really have NO passion toward us as customers. I told him that I would never recommend someone to eat there. His response was... Whatever!
I went into the diner for an early breakfast as I was looking for a quiet place to enjoy my meal. However an unruly group walked in and ordered beer at 4:00am, a clear violation of the law. When I questioned the night manager, he said that they work here. I said that both you and your employees should know better and not disrespect the business that employs them.
Dealing with a health issue, and I cannot have any thing that has estrogen. Needed to get something to eat on the run, and I could not go to any fast food because its pumped with hormones. Stopped in the diner to get a little side scoop of tuna, decided to get a wrap, I literally paid 16.40 for a tuna wrap! It was very average, at best, wasnt significantly large for what I was paying. I ordered a whole wheat wrap and I got white, it was nothing to brag about, maybe a 6 or 7 dollar wrap. I know diners are known for being way overpriced, but this was completely ridiculous. Never again.
I go past 2 other diners to come here. The chicken parm is always freshly made. And the servings are huge..we always leave with a doggie bag. Burgers are good, too. The pastries are very rich (brownies are yummy). Ive been here all different days and hours and the staff have always been nice. We love Moe!
Earlier in 2018 I wrote a nasty review. Looking back at it now, I realized that I wrote it mostly out of other anger that night and hunger 😂. I was just frustrated from other things that happened and took it out on the diner. I’m sorry. Overall it is a very good diner. Very clean, nice staff (I bashed the staff in the other comment becusse I was mad that they were a little cranky. But everyone has there days!) The food I get it. It’s the end of the night and not a lot of food left, and maybe tired. It was like around midnight. So yes overall a very good diner. Defenitly a lot better than the Franklin Square Diner that took over Silver Star
I just returned from Dominican republic and I went for breakfast and I thought it was very expensive beat $17 for one meal for one breakfast but then as the days went by to see that the expense of breakfast is going up to between 14 and $20 and the breakfast was excellent at the lantern😎
This place does not deserve any stars period.Very bad service. Sad part was we found out our sever is the bosses son of this place. It took 30 minutes to receive 2 burgers, mind you my appetizer never reached the table which was a simple onion soup.We decide to have a graduation lunch at this diner and left with disappointments, no food and upset. Both the father and son had no answers on how to better service customers.
*Response to owner, click see more*I ordered a cheeseburger and a chicken parmesan meal and there was a hair deep in the cheese on the pasta. When we called them back and spoke to Alexander (the manager on duty) to let him know what had happened he started accusing us of lying and started arguing with us when all we wanted was new food. I’m very disappointed because my friend has been coming here for years. We will never be coming back here ESPECIALLY SINCE FRANKLIN SQUARE DINER IS LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE AWAY WITH MUCH BETTER FOOD AND BETTER SERVICE.Response to ownerStop lying to try and make yourselves look better. It was 4:30 in the morning and I was just asking to come back the next day and get my food made without hair in it. I would like to know why exactly I would write a “false review” to a diner that is in my town and I’ve been coming too for years. Ive spent thousands of dollars with my family here over the years. Never have I been disrespected by any manger of the lantern as I was last night. My family will be writing reviews as well over the next week. I hope you get your business straight considering most of your reviews were regarding the lantern under its previous ownership.
The service is decent but not great. If youre a single customer you dont seem to get great service. If you are two or more customers York service seems to be much better. Service is not depending on how many customers are being served. So if you want to have a business that runs properly then you need to have customer service run properly
I visited here about two weeks ago. The service was horrible! I ordered a plate with ham and was given turkey. It did not look that fresh ontop of being the wrong order!! I immediately returned it and had to flag the oblivious waiter down that the order was wrong. A few minutes later, the plate of ham and cheese bagel I ordered came. While eating sections of the bagel, I noticed a dark piece in the cheese. I carefully pulled it out with my fork and it was green, iridescent bottle fly! So so disgusting!! DO NOT GO HERE!! I showed the waiter and showed him it had eyes and wings. So gross!! IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILYS HEALTH PICK ANOTHER PLACE!
First time there, menu looks modern and very extensive with plenty of Vegetarian friendly dishes. We started with Saute Kale with garlic and, which was served with Olive Oil and Fresh Lemon. Our mains were Tofu Sezchuan with vegetables over Rice and my friend had the Mango & Beans Burger which she loved! Will definitely be back for more
Always a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Cant complain. The service that my family and I receive each time is great. Thanks to one of the best server Nelson. He is attentive, Prompt, and Kind. Its easy to see he loves his job and cater to the needs of his customers. He even knows what my family choices may be. Im greatful tho be dining in such a family oriented establishment😊👌🍵🍽
My family and i eat at the lantern constantly... best diner in the area.. the entire staff is always very friendly. The owner will always come over say hi and recommend something for me to order.. Very kid friendly..my daughters love the staff..ive never had a bad meal.. and if something does not come as ordered its always fixed quickly . Highly recommended
We walked in got seated all The way to the back, myself and my daughter was in the middle of eating when the waitress approached us asking if we need acontainers to pack up our food, and receipt in her hand!! I said to my daughter wow maybe because were black, then the bus boy came and stood by the table just staring at us as if he was lost😡Man they dont ever have to worry about us setting foot in their establishment again the food was nasty anyway.
The Lantern was always a decent diner but after the new owners bought it a couple years ago, they have taken it to new level. Remodeled interior and a new menu with some unique items. I like the grilled chicken tacos and the eggplant pizza on a pita. The wait service depends on who you get but is usually very good. A waiter named Brandon is the best. Open 24 hours makes it all even better.
My order was wrong when I dined in, it had to be changed out. I ordered something to take home for the next day and didnt think to open it. When I opened it a half day later it was completely wrong. I ordered a hickory burger, no mayo added lettuce added sauteed mushroom. I paid 16.95 for a completely wrong delux order. I got a dry burger with mayo onions and 2 pieces of raw mushroom. I called up obviously frustrated my food was wrong only to be met with outdated management that doesnt put the people or customer first. Nore want to fix the root of the problem. Yes I got agitated aswell and a little loud because I was frustrated but if youre going to take food thats wrong back only to throw it out thats wrong. It should be given to the homeless or needy or given back to the customer with their correct food aswell. You were the ones to make the mistake your kitchen needs to learn. Not just give what they want. I saw it written down as I said it extras and changes and all, The correct way so it wasnt the waiter or the person who took my order it was the kitchen not following orders written. After much back and forth This man tried to tell me that I only want to hear what I want thats why I keep repeating myself. That Im unreasonable. Like the manipulator hes trying to be to get me off the phone. That if they do that for every customer theyd go broke... my words to him are so the facts are if I bring this burger back youre throwing it out and giving me what I ordered. He goes yes because I can I say okay well this is where I have a problem because you wouldnt be making the money off the one youre throwing in the garbage anyway so wheres the wasted money? Are you doing this in spite ? He tells me you know what bring it back and Ill give it to the homeless after much arguing with me he can do what he wants with it. So I know hes lying. Hes going to just throw it out and thats not the point of my call or reporting my wrong order. Its so it doesnt keep happening to people and so the problem gets fixed and not for nothing, no compromise was to be had because he was being disgustingly spiteful. I have it all on voice recording because I refuse to be told Im the problem when you wont even take the time to understand a problem a customer is telling you. You want to be blind okay but now Im reviewing because thats what they deserve. For people to know what they do. Another thing Ive been working professionally in the animal world almost 10 years. They have dying African Cichlid fish in their fish tank and couldnt care less when I tried to explain to them whats probably going on or even making sure someone knew what was going on. He said theyre fish you know it happens, that someone is taking care of it. Which is a lie because those fish look like theyve been sick for more than a few days, and if something was being done theyd be eager to say so I shouldnt have to pry it from them that something is being done to save their fish. These are brackish / salt water fish and the water looks like plain fresh water which I believe to be the problem because they all look like theyre gasping to breathe. Aswell as leaving the dead ones causes more ammonia in the water. In turn making the water next to uninhabitable if not taken out or treated. So leaving several dead fish in the tank for over 8hours or more can still do enough damage to harm whatever is left in the tank. Not satisfied at all and change needs to be had. Its 2019. Note before the 2000s
Open 24/7. Food is very good, plus they give you free starters (a simple beets or chick peas salad typically), bread basket. Check both the daily specials sheets and the regular menu as they often have the same thing in two places, but at a higher and lower price. Odd, I know. Staff is great, and they only seem to hire people who smile a lot, too! We ate there tonight in fact. If you order a typical dinner special, expect enough food that you can take much of it home with you, for another meal the next day. ( Ask for boxes to take good home, and if its on your table, you can take anything uneaten.)
Waiter sighed angrily as he walked away after I asked him nicely to change my side item when I was given the wrong one. He thought I wouldnt hear him, but I sure did buddy. If you dont enjoy your job, and cant accept mistakes, why are you working here? I wasnt rude about anything either. He just apparently wasnt a nice guy. I gave 3 stars because the food was not so bad. Pretty average breakfast.
Older French gentleman was by far ONE of the MOST RUDE WAITER Ive come across. He was so unpleasant horrendous service. We asked for a side of blue cheese. We NEVER SAW IT. Asked for the check ignored us. When the other table next to us were of caucasian. He look to not have one bit of a problem. To get anything they needed. Even when we asked to be moved since there would be more people. His response was a joke. !!! Maybe he had a bad day idk but no need to take it out on our Spanish behinds.
Just left after experiencing the worst customer service!! My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast and two smoothies. When we got our smoothies they were very hot & warm, so we waited until the waiter came back and asked for ice or even another round. He said sure no problem. About 10 mins after this woman came up to us extremely combative and argumentative basically saying it was OUR fault because we waited half an hour and now its room temperature. I stayed quiet at first because she was talking to my boyfriend and he was simply explaining to her that as soon as we got them they were warm. Her response was well they were made with ice so theres no way they were warm ...and well Im gonna charge you anyway. She repeated herself at least three times mentioning its room temperature even looked at her watch saying its been 30 mins. (It was not 30 minutes) until I finally had to tell her no the smoothies were warm when we first got them which is why theyre filled to the top still. I got so frustrated that I ended up telling her to forget it. Instead of a back and forth argument and debate to finally just say I can bring u another one...she could have just said ok no problem Ill bring u another one like any establishment with normal customer service skills would have. We were so turned off we said never mind and just asked for the check . When walking to pay we were stared at by this woman and her two other female employees. What ever happened to the customer is always right or decent customer service skills. Will never return and I live in town , will make sure I tell all my neighbors about this place. If I could give 0 stars I would. I didnt wake up to go have breakfast to argue with anyone on a beverage Im paying for.
The lady at the front was pleasant who greeted us as we entered. Our waiter wasnt the most pleasant. Took a long time for everything and it wasnt crowded. We arrived after midnight. My husband ordered a eggplant parmesan hero which was basically all bread with one thin layer of eggplant. There was no tomato sauce on it. The waiter had to bring him a bowl with sauce in it after he asked where was the sauce. I ordered a New Yorker cheeseburger deluxe which said (French Fries, onion rings, lettuce & tomatoes). It arrived with no onion rings. When I asked where were the onion rings he said Ill have them make it. 🤔 so if I didnt recall it came with it I would not have gotten them. When they arrived it was a plate with 2 small onion rings soaked in grease. I was able to squeeze the grease out with a napkin. Now Im wishing I would of taken a picture. After removing my plate and giving my husband a to go container because he barely ate the food, it took over 20mins to come back with the check. P.S. the older gentleman bringing water was nice and attentive. Definitely wouldnt go back. I just went in the Fridge to take a pic of his food. He took the 2 onion rings after I squeezed the grease out. He figured the oven may soak the rest of the grease off and he could add something to the sandwich. This is how it looks after 5 hours in the Fridge
Went to this place for burgers. The buns they use are homemade and are the worst buns we ever tasted. None of us finished our burgers, the buns were that bad. The burgers themselves were tasteless but Ive had worse. Overall a horrible experience, will never come here again.
I really felt obligated to write this review. My girlfriend and I came into the Lantern Diner at 9:45 p.m tonight. By 10:10 p.m, not one waiter came to our table. No one even asked us if we wanted drinks. I called for a younger African American man that I saw walking around that I assume was the waiter. I told him that no one took our order yet. He then looked very dumbfounded. So he told this other waiter that happened to be walking by, to take our order. I then heard him say out loud, I told you Im not doing it. I really couldnt believe he said that out loud. It really made me very upset by what I just heard. I saw the both of them walk back up to the front, and never came back. So my girlfriend and I got up and just walked out. No one bothered to stop us on the way out or apologize to us. The lady at the front counter didnt even notice we walked out. Im not sure if this place switched owners or not?? The funny thing about this little incident is that I came at 10 P.M on a Sunday night when it was dead.........It was empty inside.......LOL. Ive been going here for a total of 4 years. THEY HAVE COMPLETELY LOST MY BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!
Not great not terrible. I got the banana walnut pancakes. Way too much walnut, shoukd have been walnut pancakes. I could barely eat it. My boyfriend got the bananas foster pancakes and liked it alot. The waitress only came over once and sat in the corner on her phone and counting her money right in our eye view and only got up when the owner (or manager) sat down by us. Only came here because the wait at witches brew was too long. I dont think we will go back. Coffee was pretty good tho.
I was coming back to New York after living in another state and just looked forward to having New York Diner food. Since West Hempstead is my town and where my family is from The Lantern Diner was always the place to go. I read the reviews from the customers some good and some bad BUT what got to me is the unprofessional responses from the owners when customers wrote of their personal experience. I have to admit I am very disappointed. I have been in the customer service field my entire life and the first rule is THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT whether you think they are or not you are NEVER to come back negatively to the customer. I believe you owe apologies to the customers you responded to negatively.
My friends and I decided to try this place and we felt like that we had just found a gem! We had the Frenchie burger (if im correct), it came on a fluffy croissant with caramelized Onions, mushrooms, bacon & gorgonzola, fell in love with it. We are definitely coming back to try their other choices
Typical good diner. Warm friendly server, super mega-extensive menu, average food, and large serving sizes. Lets face it. Diners are not about to win the best food award but theyll make a solid gyro or burger. The staff here is wonderful. Truly wonderful. Accommodating and friendly.New York Burger: B+My New York Burger was great -- I asked for medium rare, and thats exactly what I got. Ive been to steakhouses that couldnt get that right, so kudos for you, Lantern. Unfortunately, they charge extra for lettuce and tomato on a burger and call it deluxe, which is a MASSIVE PET PEEVE OF MINE. Despite what the menu advertised, the cheddar wasnt sharp, but it was OK. The bacon was quite special -- I believe this is slab bacon cut by either the restaurant or its supplier. The bacon is very thin, crispy, not salty in the slightest, with a very serious smoky flavor.Corned Beef Hash: A-Tasted very fresh. I think this is homemade -- Id be surprised if it were canned corned beef hash. Had a more healthy aura to it.Buckwheat Pancakes: A-Amazing. Could easily be eaten without syrup.Meatloaf: B-Didnt care for it. Wasnt very flavorful at all. I think they intend for the dipping gravy to provide for the majority of the flavor.
The quality of this place has been declining lately, everytime i order carryout and an old man answers the phone he is rude, rushes me and upcharges everything and gave me stuff i didnt ask for and charged for it, also whenever hes there the food comes out sloppy, this place used to be very good a few months back but i guess the owner doesnt care how his counter is run
VERY VERY unprofessional counter people. The place is FILTHY!! On a Tuesday night I guess its hard to find good help. After getting our plates our waiter was no where to he found especially since TWO of our dishes had hair in them. FINALLY had to bring our plates up to the counter only to have her say dont put the plate in my face. Shame on you to talk to people who have been coming there for over 10 yrs, and shame on the owner for not stepping in HE DID NOTHING. DO NOT WASTE TIME ON THIS PLACE. YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BUSINESS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK TO CUSTOMERS.
I live local to this diner and every time I have come here has been slightly worse than the time before. Its to the point now where I cant even order eggs and coffee and have both things come out and be correct. Hopefully in time they will get better again but for now Im going elsewhere.
I just went to pick up my order from lantern diner and I will NOT be rerurning. My co-workers and i placed an order from a website containing a menu with prices and their phone number. When I picked up the order I noticed the prices I paid were double what was on the website. When I approached the hostess simply to point out the price discrepency (I doubt I am the only one to see the online menu), she immediately became defensive announcing My father is the owner and we do not have a website I told her Im not complaining or asking for a refund, just informing her. She then said here show me what web site and shoved her cell phone at me. The website was the 2nd link to come up under a google search and when I showed her the online menu I found, she again yelled out we do not have a website!. This woman has ZERO customer service and at 8am on a Friday morning as a first time customer I did not appreciate her nasty immature attitude. I told her I worked across the street and unfortunately for her father the owner, an office of 20 people will NOT be using their diner. Not to mention the wrap was dry and everything is over priced. We will use the Franklin Square diner going forward. Anyone being left in charge of a business should have basic skills. The owners daughter does not.
Best dinner within West Hempstead.Has lovely and quality meal offers especially breakfast menu.Ambient room and spacious sitting area for travelers, nightshift workers and others to stop by and take a break with a meal.Love the music selection that plays in the background, quality serving service and relaxing decor.Best part is near the West Hempstead track station by 15mins and closer to bus services bus stop by 8 mins walk and next to interchange exit from West Hempstead area to the Major Highway. What I loved about the diner was the seat in both that has mini recorder record player with variety of playlist that can play at cost of $1.Plus you can host private gathering or go there with friends and hangout at anytime since its a 24hr dinner restaurant open within West Hempstead area especially, if you need to snack after 11pm. 😋😎😇
Food is always GREAT cant single anything out although Im sure youll find a favorite if you can make up your mind with all the choices they offer, good portions, inexpensive, very friendly staff. The only thing left to say is make it a point to stop in at the Lantern Diner you will not be disappointed 😋 👍
The last thing you want in you awaited meal is ....2 inch long hair. Just talking about it is grotesque memories. Knowing how you much you have had eaten already of that meal from which now you are pulling out an hair is disturbing experience. Unless you are a brave soul, who can see and pull the hair out and continue with your meal, you can do better.

2021-12-14This diner is amazing. Our server was quick and super helpful. Water refill was on point. My friend and I got the Disco Fries, Boneless Buffalo Wings and Napoleon Cake this time. Both were great. Temperature of the food was perfect. Everything is amazing here!

2022-07-05Some food is good there. The prices are very high for a diner. I got 6 mozzarella sticks for almost $20. And a brownie for 8 bucks? I can get a much better brownie at a bakery for $4

2022-06-06Ive been meaning to stop in for a bite to eat. Im glad that I did. Wonderful food & service, clean atmosphere. I dont know for a fact but it seems as if its family run, everyones so outgoing & friendly. Loved the iced coffee suggestion that one of the waitresses suggested i think it had vanilla & cream in it. It kind of reminds me of the diner and family from my big fat greek wedding just really nice people serving really nice food with a smile. Will definitely stop in again soon.

2021-01-17Left me speechless. What can I say let’s start with the down side that isn’t actually a huge deal at all but the bathroom was a bit ...old looking with a leakage and a bit of a puddle of soap near the sinks but hey if you gotta go you gotta go , but in all honesty I thought the bathrooms were nicely cleaned and decent.NOW for the best part of my visit .....well everything . Me and my boyfriend were greeted and sat down quickly , the server took our drinks and I got a classic floaty and boy was it great . We got comfortable while eating waffles with chicken and ...”WOW”was the first words to come out my mouth the chicken was crispy but juicy and the waffle was just perfect. Then we decided to order a couple more things and a few minutes later we were informed that they didn’t have the food I order , she apologized and went on to give me a whole other list of food she recommended when she saw the blank stare I had in my face she asked if I would like a sample of what she was saying and I happily accepted and she came back with the best piece of meat I’ve had in awhile . The flavor and tenderness was to die for . We later got salads and not one piece of veggie was soggy , everything was so fresh and crunchy . The broccoli was cooked to perfection and honestly so were the fries and baked potato. We ended the night off with a slice of tiramisu that apparently was just in my order but she gave us an extra piece for my boyfriend . All the staff was super nice and attentive and they couldn’t have made our visit anymore better then they already had . I would highly recommend because you get a feel of home without breaking the bank . It’s opened early in the morning to late at night , they deliver , do take out , and honestly always are ready for a lovely conversation. Again I can’t say this enoughI RECOMMEND TO GO ❗️❗️❗️❗️

2022-04-04My first visit today for breakfast. Thought the place was pretty good. Food and service was very nice and tasty. Only wished the food was a little hotter and the toast a little crispier.

2022-06-13I ordered a salad and was surprised it was smaller than what the rest of my family ordered. Also surprised by the quality of the French fries - soft, almost soggy texture. Nowhere near crispy.

2021-06-05I ordered shakshuka, an item marked on the menu as “New!”, excited to see an option on the menu that reflected my cultural cuisine. My server’s table side manner was quite peculiar - low-energy and disengaged - but I reserved judgment and waited patiently for my food. What I was served that day was NOT shakshuka. It was a thin Spanish omelette sauce (as opposed to the thick aromatically-spiced sauce that actually makes this dish shakshuka) with eggs that were not poached, and certainly not poached within the sauce (the second basic requirement for this to actually be shakshuka) thrown on top… with some gross dry-package feta crumbled on top and store-bought bread around the edges. (The feta that belongs in a dish like this is *soft, brined feta*, and “fresh bread” doesn’t come prepackaged from a supermarket.)*** Every aspect of the dish was wrong, from flavor, to texture, to process to cook and assemble the dish, to the dish I was served not matching the menu description. ***I called over the manager to address the situation, and, rather than graciously apologizing and offering to replace the item, he spent the next few minutes arguing with me about whether what was served to me was actually shakshuka and insisting that it matched the menu description despite that it clearly didn’t.Eventually, he relented and offered to replace my food like my friend had suggested. But the extremely poor-tasting food and his sour attitude entirely spoiled the experience, and my replacement food (an avocado toast) was highly disappointing as well.I do not anticipate returning to Lantern.
