Beautiful space, welcoming staff, really fantastic coffee and food! Even though its not fall, I keep ordering their pumpkin spice latte as it is not icky sweet like some places - you can actually taste the coffee. Their egg sandwich is soooo good! The people that work there are incredibly friendly and welcoming. When you order food, when the folks from the kitchen bring it out to you, they are so friendly and warm (I dont know how else to put it). The space is huge and bright and love the nature videos they show (the surfing one is awesome!). I will say that a few years ago, the staff they had was not so friendly and I felt like I was intruding trying to get coffee - it has come a LONG way since then and probably is one of the friendliest coffee shops now!
The atmosphere, coffee and location of this cafe make it one of the best in the city. The natural light from the big sunny windows makes the place an inviting spot to catch up on work, or to catch up with someone over coffee. The cinnamon vanilla latte is awesome, but most importantly the staff is so kind, & efficient even amidst the rush hour crowd.
Barista was very careful to weigh beans (took a single bean out to make sure she had proper dose before grinding) and pulled a great shot of their single origin Rwandan. Clean shot and very tasty. Pleasantly surprised to see such care put into my shot in a relatively busy cafe!
Rude staff, they told me to leave 10 minutes after I ordered my coffee, even though it was 6pm and the coffee shop actually closes at 7pm. I showed them their hours of operations and one of the staff members broke the poster and he started shouting “everyone is a Joker”. What a bizarre experience!
We have been wanting to go here since it opened. We finally made it...quick stop! We will definitely be back when in the city!! My husband really enjoyed his simple drip black coffee! The coffee temperature and the taste was perfect per my hubby. I had the turmeric latte and that was amazing! My turmeric latte was the perfect drinking temperature...the milk froth was delicious. We also had a plain croissant and my hubby had the cheese and ham croissant. Both were delicious! The place is a pretty and simple coffee shop! Can’t wait to go back and sit down to have another latte. They have two specialty lattes which I would like to try. The staff was also very nice and friendly!! On top of that the coffee shop was started by Hugh Jackman with a purpose. Can’t wait to return!!
Not only are you buying delicious coffee, youre supporting the Laughing Man Foundation every time you make a purchase. I was extremely excited to be able to come to NYC and make a purchase in support of Hugh Jackmans amazing work. I highly encourage everyone to read up on the amazing things that Laughing Man is doing. Hugh Jackman is making the world a better place on the big screen and around the world. The coffee shop is very small, but theyve utilized the space very well. Youll notice that their pastries are stored tightly along the wall. Other item are fancily package and in their little coolers below. Its pretty cool. My Cold Brew and Almond Croissant were both delicious. The Cold Brew is strong, which any coffee drinker will appreciate. Smooth too. Im not sure where the pastries come from, but they were delicious and fresh. Its a grab and go type of coffee shop (express, if you want to call it that). They also have seating outside, which is great for a nice day. In cold weather, I doubt anyone wants to be sitting out there. Check out my photo. It was particularly nice on this day.Ill be making multiple visits while in NYC. Still have to check out their Lavender Latte or the Flat White. Did someone say smooth? Im there!!!
Laughing Man is Hugh Jackman’s give back brand which is how I found out about it. I ordered an oat latte which was amazing both in the rich flavor of the coffee, prep, and latte art! Space is small (but expanding soon into a sit down) and I wish I knew more about the signature lattes which were kind of hidden on a different menu on the right, but all-in-all I would stop back and grab a cup again.*Also note this is a far-trade brand and eco-friendly. The designer in me loves the ridges in the cups and that it is still sturdy and less waste.
Great coffee! 1st visit here. Got a cappuccino and it was delicious. We love trying out all the various local coffee shops in NYC, and I would definitely come back. It’s a small space. No seating inside but has a cute little seating area outside if weather allows. Also read up about the coffee shop / Laughing Man Foundation HJ started. Great mission! Didn’t know they sold k-cups so will have to buy those as well! Makes me admire HJ even more!!!
I work not too far from here and have been a customer since it was in the little storefront. The coffee is good but the staff is really terrible. They chit chat rather than serving customers. They can’t tell you definitively what pastry is what (I think that’s cranberry). They don’t know how to use the register. They don’t call names when the drink is ready, they just place it on the counter and mumble. They get orders wrong. Be prepared for an underwhelming experience.
Please explain why this place is so highly rated. I tried the matcha, and two lattes (shared with friends). The matcha was absolutely terrible quality, I actually make it better at home. There was also barely any milk in it and I definitely couldn’t taste the vanilla syrup. The lattes were also mediocre. The videos of Hugh Jackman everywhere don’t help either.
Absolutely love this coffee shop! Go here weekly and always have the best experience. All of the workers are so friendly, the drinks are amazing and the food is delicious! Had a particularly great experience today with one of the cooks, Michael, who made parfaits for me , my mom and my sister! They were delicious and he was so kind! :)
I love this coffee m, this place and this company (and Hugh Jackman). The story behind is so kind and so great. They buy from small farmers in Africa and is fair trade. They help them to get out the poverty circle. I love this cause and the place is super cozy and cute and the staff is wonderful. Always buy a bag of Dukales coffee to take home and the tiramisú turns amazing 🤓
Something special about this super tiny hipster coffee spot. Well crafted cappuccino and super affordable (2 almond croissants + almond capp for about $8). Great vibe, bright space, beans to go, parklet outside with benches for enjoying your drinks on the charming Duane St. And obviously the best name ever.
Awesome coffee, better food...Ive always loved coming here – the coffee is as delicious as the atmosphere but the addition of their hot food has been their game changer. The executive chef, Louis, brings his talent, care and thoughtfulness to the table and it shows! Yum.
I recommend their lavender latte to anyone in the area, but maybe think twice before you get their croissants. The lavender latte is just the right combination of floral, light sweetness, and the classic taste of coffee. I’m not sure where they get their puff pastry from, but it all tastes like those sausage breads which in a chocolate croissant pairs poorly with their oddly sweet chocolate.
I loved this place and am so glad I took the time to stop here. As someone who looks for ways to be eco-friendly and help our planet. Hugh Jackman really knocked this one out of the park. I had a soya chai latte which was amazing and even managed to pick up some coffee as gifts for family.
Good coffee, energetic crowds, nice corner of two streets to sip your coffee after. But do something with your croissants - whenever time of a day you come, always cold and chewy, its not so hard to have them fresh or heated up a bit. So 5 stars location, crowd and coffee, 3 stars for terrible hard cold pastries (even if you come at 6:30am), but there are other choices, 0 stars for no WiFi policy. 4 stars overall, choose wisely why you come!
I got an iced matcha with oat milk and the drink was pretty good- nice a light with just the right amount of sweetness. I’m disappointed however that they don’t offer internet? I walked 15 minutes here to get some work done only to be told after buying my $6 tea that they didn’t have wifi. Such a bummer! Seems like a nice place to come work if I was able.
We went in today and Michael (one of the chefs) heard us saying Happy Birthday to someone on our phone and thought one of us was celebrating. He quickly went back and put together the BEST parfaits for us. He was so thoughtful and sweet! Things like this set them apart from anywhere else!
Great coffee! Got an iced mocha and the espresso is fantastic. Friendly enough baristas and the store was very neat. Neighborhood is great, but wish they had a little more seating in shaded areas. I read for a few hours to out front to kill time before a flight and if youre a fan of dogs or watching children be led by on leashes, this is the spot for you! >_
This place should have nothing but 5 stars - outstanding service, delicious coffee - its a solid spot to stop! Side note perk - for being so small, the design is simple and elegant - great pictures of the behind the scenes! Also, the heartbeat behind this company is what I love most. There are a lot of places with good coffee, but not many care about who is producing the beans and where its all coming from. Coffee is one of the most predatory and abusive (to farmers and workers) industries in our world and companies like Laughing Man are working to not only change that, but create a positive impact. I was so thrilled to see this in action and finally taste the product itself on my most recent trip to NY. If you want to not only grab a great cup of coffee, but support the way things should be done in business - go get your coffee here!
Love this place so much but the head chef is AMAAAZING and beyond talented. his recipes are incredible, so much flavor and attention to detail. avocado toast is unlike any ive ever had and so unique, and the spicy bec is to die for and i dont even like eggs. also salmon ricotta toast is soooo good. this guy is legit and really takes this place to the next level
Hand down - the best coffee in this part of the world! If you want to have a well crafted coffee, around beautiful and positive people, in a top location - that’s the place.I love how they serve all kinds of coffee types (alternative milks, matcha and what not) and each cup is crazy tasty! It’s usually a busy place with a queue, but it’s always worth the wait.Best enjoyed early in the morning followed by a walk around the river.
I think our face pretty much answers everything. Had the flat white and the americano and both were super yummy!! The flat white reminded me of crème brûlée and we bought some coffee beans to bring home! Thanks for the great service and good coffee! Would go back if i lived near.
Best coffee Ive had in the U.S.A real double shot flat white at last! (Second best was the coffee bags I brought from Australia.) Bagel was good too. This place should be packed out but no-one was there. Reading the reviews below it seems Hugh Jackman owns it. Nice work as always Hugh!
It is a very small and busy cafe, but the staff was very helpful and kind despite that. My coffee came out fast even though it was realllly crowded. Good coffee, a bit weaker but I am used to extra strong coffee, so that my comment with a grain of salt. Prices werent too much and the profits go towards coffee farmer families, which i like.
Im always a fan of Laughing Man Coffee and this shop is no exception. Its pretty small catering to people who want it on the go. Theres no seating inside, but there are a few benches just outside. Since they serve a working crowd mainly, they are very efficient. As you wait in line, theyll ask you your order so its ready before you get up to the
Favorite coffee shop in Tribeca! Its a small shop with outdoor seating during the warmer season. The employees are very friendly and make it a comfort stop for me while I wait for the drink. Its pretty popular so it can get crowded but the drinks come fairly quickly. They also sell nicely packaged sweets/snacks that are delicious!
I had high expectations when I entered Laughing Man with my husband for the first time, after so much social media hype. Thankfully, I was not disappointed! The coffee and hot chocolate here is nothing short of masterful. Hot drinks ready to drink when handed to you, and full of a fragility of flavor that makes you stop for a minute to appreciate the combination of warmth and taste. I half expected to pay a premium for such premium drinks, but no, the prices seem almost too low for the quality! Last but not least, the staff are wonderfully personable, and greet everyone with a smile!I highly recommend Laughing Man for service and quality!
A small coffee shop with a cute outdoor seating area with artificial grass. The coffee here is good, but a little on the pricey side. Some of the pre-made drinks have interesting flavor combinations. I tried the iced white chocolate lavender mocha. It was subtly sweet and smooth. An added plus: the shop, which is owned by Hugh Jackman, donates all the proceeds to charity.
This place became one of my fav to hang out. Its a chill and quiet place to come by myself or with my friends and have coffee. Their pistachio latte is soo good! They also have beans on the counter for you to smell and pick out. Even if you dont know a lot about coffee youll be able to find your preference easily. Definitely recommended.
Ive followed this shop on Instagram since it opened. Im a major Hugh Jackman fan and ice forever wanted to visit this shop.My girlfriend and I made a trip to New York with the trip planned around visiting here. It lived up to my every expectation. The entire crew was nice and efficient for working in tight quarters. The drinks were exceptional. And the vibe was perfect.Bucket list goal ✔️
No complaints! Great coffee shop with seats right outside the shop. This place is TINY, but really good. They serve all of your coffee/espresso staples, plus what looks like some seasonal variations (think lavender lattes, etc.). I had a cortado and stuck around the shop to sip it on some conveniently placed seats outside. Id definitely return if in the Tribeca area.
One great cup of coffee, but not much space to have it. Luckily in the summer months they have the outside seating, but I wonder what will happen in the winter? The place literally holds four people comfortably standing up, but they take orders for 12, some opting to wait for their name to be called due to claustrophobia.
Amazing location, cute store, amazing coffee, awesome staff! One thing I REALLY wish they had was a reward system though since every other coffee place does it for the amount of money we are spending, but the items are so good that Im still giving this place 5 stars.
Love this place! I come here roughly once a week for a cortado (they usually serve it with two shots of espresso) but my coworkers will also often ask me to pick up a honey lavender latte when they hear that I am walking over. It is also the perfect spot for enjoying the outdoors because they have a nice outdoor seating area right next to a quiet street. If you are really lucky then you may even see Hugh Jackman dropping by. If you ever watch the film about Laughing Man then you can find out about how Hugh befriended a coffee farmer to eventually lead to this company.
If you love good cup of coffee, Hugh Jackman, and using your money for good cause, then this is the coffee shop to visit! Many says that they have the best coffee, latte, and espresso in NYC, and I might just agree with that, and that is coming from a non coffee lover. Yes, I am more of a tea lover, but I do appreciate a good cup of coffee. And here, I had THE best Flat White, ever. However, I must warn you, the inside is super small. I heard it was small, but upon visiting, I was surprised of how small it really was. There is no seating, other than small bench by the small window, and that is mostly used for people who are waiting for the coffee anyways. It gets packed after a handful of people in there. But it is worth the wait in the crowded, tiny little space. We got Hugh’s favorite, Flat White, and a special of the day, White Chocolate Lavender Mocha. If you are not familiar with Flat White, it is a beverage that originated in Australia, yes, where our beloved Huge is from. It is prepared by pouring microfoam (kind of steamed milk) over a single or double shot of espresso. I’ve had Flat White in the past, but none of them were this good. It was smooth, velvety, deep in aroma and flavor. It costs around $4, but it was totally worth it! Now I have more than one thing to thank Australia for; Hugh and Flat White (and Koala). And, please note that Hugh donates all his profits to the Laughing Man Foundation. Read my full review of the shop and coffee on my food blog, foodlovergirl.
As a Londoner, the ubiquitous Flat White is my number one choice of caffeinated beverage and Grumpy Coffee sure as hell dont know how to make one so I schlepped across town to Laughing Man (the clue to coffee satisfaction may be in the names here folks) knowing that being part owned by an Antipodean it would probably be a safe bet. I wasnt disappointed. The tiny coffee that is big on taste was perfectly made with a velvety crema and served at a decent temperature. The staff were delightful and chatted happily to me about the coffee beans from Ethiopia, a place close to my heart and not because its a charity case but because it is a truly beautiful country with a proud heritage of possibly the best beans in the world. Bravo Barry and David Steingard and Mr Jackman for putting all of this together in such a neat package - from my point of view, the best coffee in New York.
Hugh Jackman appears to have tried his hand somewhat successfully when he entered the espresso game in the extremely competitive environment of downtown New York City. Laughing Man Coffee and Tea is an absolute hole in the wall that consistently delivers high quality products. The small size of the cafe means that drinks can roll out only so fast, but it is definitely worth the wait - if youre a fan of lattes, try their flat white, an Australian riff off of the same beverage. Good stuff.
My daughter and I had hot chocolate here. The only place Ive been so far that the hot chocolate doesnt come with whip cream, the way I like it. The entire cafe is about 100 sqft. A two person wood bench inside facing directly at the barista and most seatings are outside. The baristas are very friendly and polite. We didnt really go there for the hot chocolate. Im a huge fan of Hugh Jackman.
What a fantastic discovery ! This charming little coffee spot doesnt seem to have a menu or even much of a shop (Ive seen closets larger than this) and yet their friendly service, awesome coffee and charming little makeshift terrace make it irrefutably memorable. Im only disappointed that I discovered this place as tbr temperatures are dropping.
Pleasant as expected. I came from Sunnyside NY and explore the TriBeca area to get bags of coffee and my cup came out free. It was expensive but well worth it. I hope to get an order of bags of beans online as Texas dont have you. Wish you guys have a shop near the Medical Center…I will be your fan daily.
I randomly stumbled on the place while I was scootering to the WTC path train. Was feeling tired and decided I needed a coffee, which is weird for me as I dont drink coffee since it makes me sick to my stomach and jittery.Much to my surprise the ice coffee I got was really really good (which is saying a lot for me as i dont like coffee!). Dont know how they did but it also didnt make me feel sick or jittery. Just very smooth and nutty. An iced coffee and a biscotti was like $5.50 I think, which I dont believe is an unreasonable price in NYC (but I may wrong... again, I dont ever really drink coffee). Ive made it a habit to stop by once a week or so to get an iced coffee because it really was that good (again, huge thing for me as I dont like coffee). The place isnt really a sit down place due to the size, but they do have a couple chairs out front and a dog water bowl if you have a pet with you.The reason Im not giving a 5 star is because they dont have a menu, which kind of throws me. When I went in and asked for one, the guy behind the counter told me that they didnt have one and that I just tell him what I want and he gets it for me. While I appreciate the dedication to customer service, its difficult for me to know what to ask for in the first place without actually knowing what my options are. Im pretty sure they have more there than just one flavor of coffee (or even more than just iced coffee) however i have no idea as there is no menu.
Sorry guys, i tried to like this coffee, but it just came out very bitter, no matter how i ground it, course or fine, or how i made it, strong or medium, it came out bitter.... and i am used to drinking strong black coffee. Im talking about Dukales Dream expresso. Maybe i just got a bad batch, oh well, life goes on. Also, though it was not bad, i was expecting a smoother more flavorful taste of the sulawesi. Ive tasted better. Thanks for your time.
Best coffee in NY.Heres some more for reference as to my tastes:I will say Happy Bones in NoLIta is a close second to Laughing Man.Dean & Deluca, a solid go to.. And better than Starbucks.Balthazar is negative 5 on 5. Literally the worst.Lets burn the coffee beans, let them get stale for a year and then grind them. Let them sit in the sun. And then brew a cup of joe. Deeeeesgusting. But lets move back to a happier note... Laughing man: coffee perfection.
Only Rebirth could get me to come to Blue Note. They cram way too many people in here. $35 for table seating (first come first serve regardless of the fact that we purchased these tix months ago) which means my husband and I have strangers breathing in our drinks and in our necks. And ps. My waitress is BEYOND rude.

2022-07-09Can’t say enough good things about this place! Great staff, great coffee, quintessential NYC location, I just loved it. And the food options were great, with some nice gluten free options which is important for us 🙂

2022-06-12Tried tofu caprese. Taste is amazing. Made Wwith pesto, tomatoes and the fresh basil leaves :) (leaves were plucked from a plant in front of us). Oil sprayed is so little while grilling. A good filling. Also tried coffee with the maple syrup, never tried before. I actually liked it. The vegan section of the place is separate from non-vegan cafe. Staff is friendly and place is small and sweet. Do try out.

2021-11-30Cool clean coffee shop with really good coffee and quick food bites . Comfortable atmosphere with all white tones and marble. Coffee is overpriced ( like in most coffee shops nowadays) but it is indeed good - loved my oat milk latte. They also have some souvenirs to buy and overall vibe is on point

2022-01-06I’m staying in the area and was walking around the neighborhood when I found this spot. I had heard it was owned by Hugh Jackman and they have a foundation to help coffee farmers which obviously intrigued me for many reasons. The staff was super nice and efficient. I tried one of their specialty lattes and it was great. It had flavor without being cloyingly sweet or in your face and the espresso was smooth - it didn’t have that acidic bite it can sometimes get. Overall, great little spot

2022-06-12Great cafe!Yummy selection of pastries, lots of seating, and bright interior. Both coffee and matcha are great. Love it when matcha is served naturally unsweetened. Recommend the cinnamon vanilla latte - it tastes like a hug

2022-01-12I make sure to visit Laughing Man every time Im in NYC! Great coffee, lovely little spot. I love to support fair trade and I appreciate the work done to invest in programs that better the world.

2021-11-23I really really really wanted to give more starts, but my experience was not that good. I would give coffee and food 4,5 stars, but service just 1 😅 It was just rude and I would really put some efforts in training staff. Will come back for the coffee, and hopefully service will be better next time. Oh, by the way, no one asked us to show vaccination certificate even though we stayed for indoor dining 🤔

2022-05-29The most popular coffee spot in TriBeCa. Solid coffee. Nice outdoor seating. Line gets a bit crazy on the weekends. Perfect location just off of Duane park. Sit there long enough and you will run into 5 people you know.

2022-03-24They had excellent butternut squash flatbread, but today it was very bad replication. The taste of purée is changed, no truffle flavor, the mushroom cut has changed. I do better squash purée at home.Very poor.

2022-01-26One of my favorite coffee shops in the city. Great espresso and the baked goods look real solid (haven’t had but they look good) with one or two vegan options (had a vegan muffin was solid) as well. Great coffee. I bought a bag of their coffee after coming to the shop!
