Delicious bread. Very good food. Good service. We both tried a strawberry & goat cheese salad first. It was very good, but there was way too much goat cheese!! We were each given an entire wheel of cheese. My duck confit was a little too fatty, though duck can be fatty at times, I know.My husband enjoyed his Croque Monsieur, though too salty.
Amazing experience. I went for my birthday dinner. The menu is rather small in comparison to other places but the food is incredible. The variety of appetizers are all amazing. I would recommend thr escargot flambe. There are always a few specials that the server will tell you too. All the entreés were to die for. One of my guests ordered the lamb shank, which was served in a cranberry sauce. The neat was fall-off-the-bone tender. I ordered the NY strip. It was perfectly cooked. The slight char gave it an amazing flavor and complimented the herb butter perfectly. The thinly sliced French fries underneath it were beautifully seasoned. The desserts are also always great. The service wasnt the fastest but not slow either. All the wait staff was friendly and the owner even came out and checked up on tables. All in all, an amazing experience. Perfect for fine dining without the pressure of having to dress up in formal attire. The atmosphere was lively and its the best, if not, only French restaurant in the area.
From the food to the atmosphere to the warm and welcoming staff, this is by far one of my favorite restaurants. The food was out of this world. Best duck I have ever had. Everything I tasted far exceeded my expectations. Thank you to the owners and staff for such a wonderful experience.
We had a fabulous birthday dinner at Le Cenard Enchaine. Five star service and the chef was very attentive. The food was fantastic. Delicious shrimp and crab cake with an incredible sauce. We also had escargot and for dessert we had creme brûlée. I recommend having dinner at the best restaurant in Ulster County.
Visited on 11/10. Stephano is amazing. He gave us phenomenal service. What he actually did not know is that it was a very special night for us and we had reservations across the street; however, we were not fans of the atmosphere and left. He was so attentive and oustanding. My partner does not speak much English and Stephano even spoke in Spanish for us. Thanks to him, this was the best restaurant experience I may have ever had. I already shared it on facebook. The steak was cooked exactly to my liking. My partner loved his snails and salad. We even got an excellent dessert. It was cold outside and they had heaters and were very attentive. Prices were reasonable. Beautiful place and outside seating was lovely.Highly recommend and ensure Stephano is your server!
What a joke! We visited this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary, anticipating a phenomenal experience based on the rave reviews provided by Google, but were grossly disappointed. The fare left more to be desired, so much so, that we opted to have dessert at the diner rather than waste another cent at this brazenly overpriced, French bistro.$39 for a salmon filet with a smidgen of red cabbage, which I intially returned for it was too well done(Dry). The waiter was defensive at this request, stating that Id ordered it medium well, even if I did( which I didnt) it was still overcooked. No matter what, we have no desire to return to Le Canard Enchaine. They simply did not deliver.
From the minute you step in to the moment you walk out, a great experience! This is our third or fourth time eating there, excellent every time. I never write reviews but this is worth my time to say thank you!!Last night we sat and had great drinks at the bar with Brian an excellent bartender who makes you feel comfortable when sitting at his bar. Then when you are seated for diner, Stefan and Patrick are awesome! Both personable and right there with exceptional service. We have also had Kathy who was phenomenal as well in the past.I dont know what the recipe is for great food and greater service but they figured it out!!!By the way the food is 5 stars as well!! cooked prefect and served in a very timely manner! applause to the chef!!we will be back!! Thank you all for a great night
Incredible food (very authentic and delicious) and great service. Wonderful arugula and endive salad for an appetizer, and braised lamb shank was unbelievable falling of the bone goodness. The wines by the glass are very good quality and generously poured. Can’t wait to visit again.
This restaurant is serving the best food in town! It’s one of the more expensive places to eat but has fun lively French waiters and delicious food. The restaurant is a little hectic and not the most organized, which I don’t mind but may not be appealing for everyone.
What a spectacular meal. Everything was amazing...we really did it up. As u would expect from the name...the duck was incredible. So were the apps and dessert. Our server Dan did a great job and the hostess Susan picked us up and dropped us off at the marina. Cant say enough about how excellent it was!
My mom is from France and everything here was very reminiscent of French cuisine. We had the opportunity to meet the owner who is from France. My uncle who is not a fancy restaurant guy was kept saying how good his meal was. So, if want good food and service I would highly recommend.
This place is absolutely AMAZING!!! The atmosphere, the food, the staff (Steven) perfect. Tonight was my first time trying lamb (fell off the bone, so perfectly tender) and duck! I must have been living under a rock before, I used to shutter at the thought of eating these foods but after going out my comfort zone I can’t imagine ordering just steak and potatoes again. I will definitely be returning, I think my husband and I have found our new “usual” spot!!
Went for the first time for my wifes birthday. The service was absolutely excellent. There were at least 3 different people taking care of us if not more. The menu was small but enough variety for most and there were a few great specials. I personally love traditional French dishes and found some on their menu. Everything we ate was delicious. The atmosphere was small, quaint, and delightful. We will absolutely be back again. Pricing was very reasonable as well for the quality of dining you are getting. Cant say enough good things about this place. We would recommend this to anyone that likes French cuisine.
The food is great. Onion soup is a must. The steak was also really big and delicious the reason it lost 2 stars is because of the experience with the waitress. She did not assist and did not recommend things because in her words “I don’t know what you like” as she got close to our face. It was the weirdest experience we have had.
Started off great. Classic old school French service. Waitstaff seemed off their game. Very slow inconsistent service. $90+ bottle of wine was opened, but not tasted/poured without us having to ask.Food quality very good, but service way below standard at this price point.
Loved the place. We stopped for a late lunch and were very happy with the quality of food and service. The two dozen Blue Point oysters we ordered were very fresh and meaty. I could taste a nice salty flavor of the sea, just like it supposed to be, instead of the washed oysters you get in most of the restaurants in this country. My mussels, equally good, were well seasoned with delicious broth. My husband had a lamb shank, which was superb.Excellent Sancerre was a nice accompaniment to my meal. And of course no meal is complete without a good desert. We had a tarte tatin and a panna cotta, which were both amazing. We will be back for dinner next time.
Food was subpar. Service was okay. It was an hour before we received our entrees. $36 Duck was really dry and the “mixed berry compote” on top was more of a glorified canned waffle topping. We really wanted to like this place but in the end, were disappointed and $150 short.
Ended up here after being the only place I could get a table at from Saugerties to Albany. Drove almost an hour and well worth with drive. Steven was great and very informative. Food was amazing and great vibe. Had a conversation with the owner who is very friendly. Will be back.
Were staying in Kingston and had reservation here last night. We were excited to try this place out given the reviews it has received on here and Yelp.Walking to the restaurant, finding the main entrance was confusing as they have clearly expanded over the years and left all the doors visible from the outside.Walking in my husband who is French, asked if this was the restaurant and told them we had a reservation, the man who greeted us from behind the bar was not a friendly or inviting. Pointed to a table we could sit at. Our waiter who didnt introduce himself (tall & average weight) who refused to speak French with my husband even though he clearly was French too and understood him.The food was under seasoned, my husband ordered the lamb dish and I ordered the duck confit over warm apple purée which was verysweet. We were dining with our toddler who is accustomed to eating out. When asked for a kids menu or a side order of pasta for him. The waiter looked at me like I was crazy. Umm kids need to eat too. The only thing he offered was a side of french fries.I asked for a cocktail menu, again he looked at my like I was asking for something completely unexpected when visiting a restaurant. He said we dont have one but we have a full bar.I decided to order a margarita with salt my husband had a beer. When we eat out we normally have aperitif and a bottle of wine or cocktails with dinner. After noticing the service and getting my margarita we decided not to order anything else. The margarita was degueulasse, clearly from a mix; if your pouring it from a mix dont have the nerve to us charge $16. I had one sip and it sat on the table all night, waiter didnt ask or offer anything else in its place.Do yourself a favor and take your business somewhere else. This place has clearly been around too long and have lost touch with their customers. The only kind staff we encountered was the older waiter on our way out. Sadly he didnt have our section last night.
We met with friends at this restaurant for a meeting. we heard about this restaurant from many people. Well, it was very successful. the staff members were so friendly and we felt excellent. The food was just great. We had a great time and we shall absolutely come back again. Highly recommended.
Just left the most amazing place on earth! This restaurant goes up and above. I had French onion soup and a wonderful apple dessert, they were so fabulous I wanted to order seconds just to take home! The people there are kind, warm hearted, and the women Elizabeth who greeted my husband and our two kids was such an energetic and kind soul, she put it in stone that we have to come back. This restaurant will from now on be our date night destination! I cant wait to go back!
This French gem is a consistently delicious experience. Very hard to say what my favorite dish is because every dinner/ lunch is better than the last!!! Fun atmosphere, delicious food! Jean Jaques is a wonderful chef. My favorite wait staff, Jean Francois!! You have to try it!!!!
Great place good food. French onion soup, escargot and creme brulee never disappoint. Pricey but not overpriced for what it is. Lovely atmosphere. Fancy the filet but not always available. Havent loved every entree but never hated it either. Been going almost 20 yrs. Classic French food. Always a treat!
La Canard was everything we hoped it would be. I am not an expert on French cuisine, but I am sure the French Onion soup was the best Ive ever had. Our dinners were delicious and the atmosphere was unique and romantic. We did ask them to modify a side dish. No problem. My only regret was no room for dessert.
Who knew you could get great French food in Kingston -- showed up on Christmas Day for an early dinner before heading out for family festivities and the place was packed. Bartender made all kinds of special drinks for us using Tequila and the menu had something for everyone. Great atmosphere, kind, welcoming staff and good food. Perfect place for date night or cocktails. Can be pricey though, but well worth it.
Each course was excellent, and perfectly prepared. As my wife and I are both non- meat eaters, were both got the fish dishes. Both were succulently delightful. Our wines matched impeccably with our main courses. Our desserts were too die for. The creme brulee was intensely rich . The apple tarte was uniquely wonderful. Basically, we liked our meal. Worth coming to Kingston for dinner.
Hands down my favorite restaurant of all time. I try to convince all friends/family to come here on birthdays/holidays, just so I have an excuse to come along and treat myself at Le Canard!Casual/classy style French food in the middle of Kingston, NY. As the famous Alton Brown said, if you are within 500 miles of this restaurant, you need to go. The duck confit is superb, and the wine selection is wide.
Overall pretty good food for the price. We had the foie gras, onion soup, lamb shank, and roast duck. Of these I’d recommend the duck the most - the foie gras and lamb shank were not really worth the price. I’ve had better store bought foie gras. Also the place tries too hard to get across its frenchness
Le Canard has been my favorite French restaurant since it opened about 20 yrs ago. They are consistently DELICIOUS. Always a fun staff and the place is beautiful, I feel like Im in Paris when I go there. The owner Jean Jacques is incredibly generous and gracious. I remember after work one day , i went to enjoy a mArtini and chef came out with a whole fish seasoned and cooked to perfection. He cut it up so everyone could have some at the bar. I hAve enjoyed many meals there but faves include the escargot(which they prepare to order so you have to wait 15mins ), the mussels served different ways but all are yummy and you need more bread for dipping , the steak with frites, made the real French way...wait til you try those fries! His menu is varied enough so that everyone can pick out a delicious dish, for example, you can order a Cajun chicken sandwich(again seasoned and cooked perfectly) served on a baguette with apple slices and a salad. The bread and butter is a treat too, they always serve the bread hot and crispy, soft on the inside. I think he gets his bread from NYC.The desserts are amAzing, especially his chocolate mousse cake which is my favorite dessert of all time. They make perfect cappuccinos too .HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
My wife and I took a long drive to get to this place late Friday afternoon. When we arrived I couldnt find a parking place nearby. I called to get suggestions from the restaurant. The host who answered greeted me in French so I responded in French. I am American and my wife is French. I speak French perfectly fluently with perhaps a very slight American accent. As I continued to speak French over the phone, the man insisted on rudely responding to me in English. If he is not prepared to speak French to diners in his French restaurant, then dont pretentiously answer the phone in French. This is the kind of situation that Americans often encounter and that gives the French the reputation of being rude. My wife and I decided not to dine at this restaurant after all.
Ham & Brie sandwich came cold...I couldve slapped on 2 thick pieces of brie and 2 thin slices of ham on french bread and made it myself at home...for $13??? Ludicrous! while my friends ham and swiss baked with a breading over it came out super hot. When I asked the waitress to maybe microwave it she said that the taste would come out entirely different...actually brought home 1/2 sandwich and I microwaved it for 30 secs at home...delicious! Prices are overpriced even for lunch menu...save your $$$
Had my first date with my future wife at LeCanard. Then I consequently proposed to her at the same table in the window a year later. Regardless of that personal romantic attachment I have, LeCanard is simply the best. Pre fixe lunch is a great bargain. Service is old school French and very professional without being snobby. Food is top notch and is with attitude as well. If trout almondine is on the menu I highly recommend.
When asking for ketchup for my fries the owner, whom was standing behind my chair, grabbed and pinched my neck with force This is a French restaurant.... When confronted, he denied it. No attempt to apologize for inappropriate behavior. No one has the right to touch me without my consent. I spend my money in restaurants where I am respected.

2022-01-19We were there on MLK holiday where many retails and Restaurants close that day. Also not so many people. The restaurant is big and have around 4-5 section dining room.It is a fine dining with friendly staffs and service. Food are great! Have the snail soup for the first time and the sauce are so good that me and boyfriend keep digging in with bread. The casserole are well done with a duck, pork belly, sausages come so tasty. The staffs are very helpful too as I forgot my purse and they help mail them back so quickly. We definitely recommend this place to everyone.

2021-12-30Upon entering the restaurant we were not greeted for a very long time. I had to get attention of the barman, who pointed us to the direction of our table, not walking with us. Fortunately our waitress made up for this ignorance. Our waitress was a bomb, funny, professional and had great recommendations. Food was delicious, we tried the duck, warm goat cheese salads, stripe bass, onion soup, all high-quality. The desserts are very good as well although some what standard. (Pumpkin cheesecake, flour less chocolate cake). One disappointment is the lack of specialty cocktail menu. The wine list is pretty good though. Also the steak was not a available, but it was on a Tuesday night.

2022-04-19Great meal! The food was unique and fresh and tasted delicious. Had the steak tartare to start and the chicken breast (pictured). Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake and probably the best part of the meal! The vibe is very cozy and the service was great!

2022-01-26My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner in the private dining room at Le Canard this January. We have also dined here for dinner prior. We had a wonderful experience. Everyone was impressed by the food, the ambiance was cozy and oh so french and arranging the dinner was an easy no-fuss experience. If youre looking for groveling, white glove service you wont find that here however I love the charming, efficient, and authentic service. The food is delicious and your wine glass will never be empty!

2022-02-27Went to celebrate a birthday lunch. Love places that serve a dinner menu all day long, because we do prefer our larger meals earlier in the day when possible. Hands down the best meal Ive had in a very long time. Delicious food, the most friendly, professional and courteous staff in a setting the is both elegant and Bohemian. It had been years since my last visit there and Ill not wait so long to return, this time.

2022-01-24Amazing food, certainly the single best high-end restaurant in Kingston! The setting is very intimate. And the food is delicious, the menu has many great French classics, and all the bread served was warm. I had a great experience, and I’m looking forward to the next time I visit.

2022-06-12The food was fabulous, and service was both quick and friendly, despite being quite busy. I had the duck confit for my main and it was seasoned perfectly and fell right of the bone. Could not imagine anything better! I also tried a bite of everything the rest of my party ordered and nothing was disappointing. Definitely worth the drive out from Albany, you cannot go wrong with this place!

2022-02-18The restaurant is wonderful, food great! French waiter, the best! The waitress, older woman with glasses. One word RUDE! Should not be anywhere near a restaurant like this. She has no class! She treats your customers paying money like dirt!
