I ordered the crab lobster Benedict. It tasted like a frozen patty. You didnt taste crab nor lobster. I was better off going to the grocery store and buying a frozen crab cake. The steak and egg was good. They waiter did come over and apologize gor us being unhappy and wanted to make it up to us. It wasnt his fault, he service was good. I would say they should let people know that its not fresh crab and lobster just a patty.
Food is just DELICIOUS I have tried the tomato burrata tart to start and the coq au vindefinitively you have to try the tomato burrataPeach Melba for desert, FABULEUX!!!Hakeem our server was really nice and expert about wine.Really nice experience and thank you Khalid to take care of us
Cozy french bistro with dim lighting. They put up the Xmas tree when we went and it was so cute. We enjoyed many of the things we ordered - martinis were well made and they have a nice french Champagne by the glass. Mushroom ravioli was underseasoned and in general underwhelming. Tuna tartare was delicious. Steak was cooked well, as was the burger. French fries were served generously but needed to be more crunchy. They were out of the lemon tart and chocolate mousse desserts and we dined at 6pm!
Popped in here for a brunch on a Sunday recently. It had your typical French fare and it looks like there were a few tables comprised of Columbia undergrads and their parents. Good beer selection and they do have an espresso machine if you prefer espresso based coffee drinks. The fare is what I would call pretty typical Fnench fare. My dining partner had a Croque Monsieur and I had steak and eggs. I had the French Fries from my order substituted with the home fries. They were a little dry, but had a good flavor with the red pepper that was mixed into it. My steak was thin and a little overcooked for medium rare, but had good flavor. .Eggs came out as requested, over easy. I would return if there was nothing new to try in the area and was looking for something reliable.
I went here for a Christmas meal. The weather was good enough for us to eat outside. The Atlantic cod and chocolate mousse was well done. We had to choose from the Christmas menu only. Given it was Christmas night, the meals were on the expensive side. However the meals were prepared well.
Not as flavorful as I expected.. I had the roast chicken and it was pretty bland.. The Mashed potatoes were very good and so was the after dinner hot chocolate... It was a very quiet place. The staff was super friendly and and nice. I would go back to try a different dish and see if it was a one off thing.
I went today with a friend and ordered two things, pointed them out On the menu to our waitstaff. When they came out with one right order and one wrong order we very politely pointed out that we didnt order one of the dishes. Our wait staff straight up belittled us and said that we ordered what they brought. In the end they did get us what we had initially ordered but made some snide comment about them being right and us being wrong while doing it. Food was amazing but the overall experience was soured by the poor attitude.
Me and my boyfriend came for my birthday in June and weve been thinking about it ever since!😭We got the escargot, fried crab ravioli, the duck, the lamb chops, and the creme brulée! Everything was delicious, the drinks were great, the atmosphere was warm, and our server was amazing as well.Might try the mussels next time!
Disclaimer: It is possible that I am being too harsh because my cod fillet was excellent. And so was the salmon fillet that one of us had.So why the lower rating:1. The lobster fish cake was okay at best2. The moules frites was horrible. The mussels were good quality but the sauce was a disaster. And the fries were over cooked.3. The toilets were horrendous.4. We were ignored by the staff several times.I am extremely unlikely to return.
The food is good, no doubt about that. However, I dont know if it was an off day, but the service was REALLY slow. I dont know if I ordered something complicated (roast chicken with mashed potatoes), but many people who arrived after my party was served first. We were there for maybe an hour and a half waiting. Even the bottled beer I ordered took 20-30 minutes. I hope this isnt normal, because the food is really good.
The service was lovely. Nice bartender guy! The croissant tasted like it was made with lard instead of butter - it seems that sweets are not their forte. The blueberry jam served with it was a coulis, not really a jam. But the eggs Benedict, the Bellini and iced latte were all great.
The food was average at best. We ordered French onion soup, grilled octopus, burger and steak frites. The grilled octopus was rubbery and had no char on it. The burger and steak were very mediocre. While the food was serviceable the worst part about the experience was the service. The food came out painfully slow and we were neglected by our waiter for the majority of meal. We arrived at 8pm and got our entrees at 9:28pm. This is absurd for the simple items ordered. Food very average and service is terrible. Will never come back.
This restaurant is a favorite of my cousins, and she introduced it to me last night. It is now my favorite restaurant in NYC. The atmosphere was amazing, and the food was delicious. The French onion soup is the best I ever had. I will definitely come back my next visit to the city.
Loved the rack of lamb and the neighborhood. Service was amazing and a beautiful NYC night made the entire experience lovely. The restaurant had Balthazar (Soho restaurant, and one of my favorites)vibes and that enhanced the experience of a classic French restaurant in my favorite NYC.
I went to Le Monde for my daughters birthday and it was a wonderful experience. When we got there we were immediately seated and our waiter came to give us a sparkling water, bread, and butter. As an entrée we ordered the cheese charcuterie plate and it was delicious. The pâté tasted as if it was from France and all the cheeses were very delicious. I would recommend getting it to share with the table as it is a bit too much for one person.Soon after we finished the cheese plate, our food was served. My husband and I got the Pan Seared Seabass served with spinach. It was delicious and our daughter got the lamp chops and fries. The lamb chops were well cooked and was a perfect pairing with the potato gratin. If you dont know what to get at the Monde, I would recommend the lamb chops.Everything about our experience was wonderful and I would go there again with my family or friends.
Wonderful to see so many back to what we love about NYC. The staff handled the crowd easily and professionally and all were wearing masks. Service was great as was the food. Salmon, steak frittes and Le Monde burger.....all delicious. Le Monde has made social distancing a priority but it was not at all uncomfortable. There is ample outdoor seating and indoor tables are separated by plexiglass.
The food was okay. The service was good until the bill came. I paid with the scan code on the bill and didnt add a tip. Immediately a male approached me saying that my bill wasnt paid, but I had confirmation that it was paid, so I showed him. Shortly after, my server came to the table saying that there was a problem with my payment. Stating that I paid the exact amount (I was intending to pay a cash tip because as a person in the service industry I appreciate cash tips). I told her I didnt add a tip, she asked if she did anything wrong) I explained that I was giving her cash...... 😒😒 needless to say, I tipped, but she wouldve received way more had they not been so rude!!!!
Heart doctors rejoice! Le Monrde has taken your concerns for the blood pressure of New Yorkers seriously and chosen, quite boldly, to do away with this seasoner known as “salt.” Once used to make food “taste good,” the devil incarnate salt has been stricken from every, single, item on Le Monde’s menu. But would they stop there with their culinary innovation? Of course not. Ever the anti-traditionalists, this French bistro has chosen quite wisely to bring starters to your table after the entree. Full price? Obviously. Apologies to the table? Not so.If you think they’re done, I say this to you: “nope.” Other restaurants often choose to serve vegetables and fruit when they’re ripe, or at their most delicious. Le Monde takes this standard and flips it on its head by serving their vegetation weeks before it could ever hope to be ripe, ensuring that, without the aforementioned salt, you will leave Le Monde saying “that tasted bad.”The thing that makes Le Monde successful isn’t its food or itss service, it’s its location. Cuddled up against Community Food & Juice, Le Monde has sustained itself by providing seats to the runoff of Community’s long wait list. Watch any morning as Le Monde sits without a single patron until community begins listing a wait of 20 minutes for parties of any size. This is why such an awful culinary experience can survive covid in NYC, because it’s the next best thing, next door to a far superior restaurant. The prices are offensive, the food is awful, but when you can’t get into community, and you don’t know Fumo UWS is a 5 minute walk away, you’re gonna give it a try, just once. And then never again.
I met a friend and had dinner at La Monde. We sat at a table that was next to the open windows so we enjoyed the cool evening breeze. The decor felt like old NYC. Glamorous and well made. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. They brought us basket with fresh French bread and butter and it was delicious. My friend had a salad and I had the salmon with spinach. The salmon was a little crunchy on the outside and so tender and flavorful inside. We were serviced quickly and our food came out in a timely manner. We had wine and chatted for almost four hours. After a while they didn’t check up on us! We were going to close our then we had some coffee.
I guess 4:30pm on a Sunday is a wrong time to come to this restaurant. We were told that the kitchen is not open yet, but when we asked how long it will be they said about 15 minutes. We were seated and completely forgotten about. They did bring us water, but nobody took any order from us, not even drinks. Half an hour later we got up and left.
We had the 3 course menu for $40 on a Monday night. Every dish was delicious and authentic. The waitress was very attentive and polite. Wait time was minimal and although the restaurant was lively we could have a normal conversation. It was a very satisfying experience.
This restaurant is conspicuous consumption at its peak. The fare at Le Monde is wildly overpriced, even for the Upper West Side. Somehow, a veggie burger—one of the least expensive entrees on the menu—and two glasses of house wine came to $39.I expected the burger, at $16, to blow my mind. It wasnt even in my top ten. It was edible. The wine was potable. Thats really all I can say.Its so blatantly obvious that people go to restaurants like this to show off their buying power—not because they genuinely enjoy the food. The service was wonderful and I really cant complain about the ambiance, which was pleasant. But to think I spent four years watching wealthy classmates taking their parents to Le Monde, and always imagining going. Now I dont imagine Ill ever go back. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
An amazing place with a perfect French atmosphere. Excellent eating experience from walking in the door and being greeted by the manager, seated and drink order taken, was maybe 5 minutes. Meal was served hot and excellent taste. Servers were very friendly and helpful. We will come back soon.
This is a really nice place. Im usually intimidated by French food places because Im just nor familiar enough, culturally speaking. But the food here on my first visit was superb. I had the Coq Au Vin and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a nice glass of wine too. The waiter was attentive and took time to explain things to me or ask advice on my behalf. I appreciated that. The restaurant has a nice charm to it too. Location is good being near Colombia and all of the nearby schools. I look forward to coming back here and trying more food and drinks!
Amazing night! We were invited to dinner by friends and were pleasantly surprised. We share the tomato and burrata tart along with the cheese plate to start which were just great. I had the duck confit as my main course and it was just delectable! My husband had the lamb shank and I had to have a taste, the presentation was so inviting! Super place and atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
In vacation in NY and came to this area to see the diner from Seinfeld. Diner didnt look like a place we wanted to eat but saw this place across the street so decided to give it a try and were glad we did. Food was absolutely delicious. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and boyfriend got burger, both with fries, and all devoured! Great service, adorable interior, delicious food and from what I remember not too expensive.
Food was very good. Beautifully presented, delicious. I had the grilled salmon. We split the cheese plate appetizer. Wonderful choice of cheese.Only complaint was the service. Had to ask twice for a spoon. Took forever to get the check. And yet, tried to take the cheese plate away many times before we were through. (Part of that was our choice, as well actually only are about half of it as an app, and picked at the rest following the entrees).Ill be back for the food, but not on a day that I have deadlines
I never have and never thought I would write a google review... In short, I got there at 8, waited over 45 minutes for my steak to come out insanely salty. Sent it back just to get a barely cooked steak in return, I told them about it and they said that’s it comes. After that, I asked for mustard and got it a little over 10 minutes later, by then my steak was already cold. After I made them aware of all those problems, I was not offered anything to make my experience better. I am not a picky eater and this place used to be one of my favorite french restaurant (I’m from France) but the last few times I’ve went, I have been very disappointed.
The escargot was excellent. The steak and French fries were good. Wine very good. But service was slow and although the food was good it was just missing the mark on French food. If I want a taste of French, like I am in France, this would not be my first choice. For a good French like meal, it is good.
We had my daughters sweet 16 at Le Monde in a private dining area. They were able to accommodate all 40 guest very comfortably. The manger and entire staff was friendly and service was excellent. Not to mention, the food was well prepared, good food, top notch French bistro dinner party.
I adore this place! They serve great meals, their menu is varied, The chief cook in that restaurant is an expert, I enjoy very much tasting all their dishes. The dishes are consistently fresh and tasty, the attitude towards the guests is agreeable. I often go to this place and I was never disappointed. I recommend it to all my friends.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Drinks: Excellent. Great wine selection.Food: Excellent. I recommend the goat cheese salad or the organic chicken.Space: If you are looking for a Parisian style ambiance with excellent food, this is it. Very spacious and intimate in the indoor dinning area. The outside seated dining is very casual and cozy. Making it the perfect place to impress a date, get-togethers, or after-work drinks.Crowd: 20-50s Mostly Columbia faculty, students, and local talent. It is a pick-up scene at the bar.Service: Very attentive, professional and courteous staff. Since the outdoor dining is seasonal, it can be a little slow at the outside dinning area when its crowded.
I came to Le Monde for a late dinner. The host and servers were all very friendly and knowledgeable.I ordered the yellow tomato gazpacho with crab (seasonal) and the crispy salmon. The gazpacho was refreshing and substantial with a good amount of crab. The salmon was outstanding. Very tender, flavorful with just enough crispiness on the edges. The sauce was soy base and served over a bed of spinach, with pureed babaghanouge. The balance was really good. For dessert I had a very unique and seasonal dish, tomato melba. It was really different from the typical selection and really good. The tartness of the tomato countered the sweetness of the ice cream and peaches. Surprising, but it worked well.I highly recommend Le Monde to anyone looking for well crafted cuisine with an innovative flare.
Everyone who worked there seemed frantic even thought it wasnt that busy. All of the staff seemed inexperienced. The food was only okay and not worth the cost. They removed the crepes, which used to be their best item, from the menu which was strange as they are a French restaurant and lacked the most basic French dessert. Definitely wouldnt go back.
French bistro. Good food, nothing special. The sauteed salmon and mashed potatoes with string beans is one of my favorite entrees. Burger with fries is decent. The spinach and goat cheese omelette is a solid brunch, lunch or dinner item. The spinach and cheese are mixed nicely. The many times I have been, theres never been a wait.
Good ambience and tasty food. Very convenient location if you want to eat and then walk through Riverside Park or if you are leaving St. John the Divine and want brunch. Eat just inside on a nice weather day, you get the outside feel without actually being outside with people walking by and dogs panting or barking at the tables.
The service at Le Monde is the worst that I have experienced at any restaurant in my life.My friend and I came in yesterday just after 6PM. We asked to sit in the back section but were told that it was closed and that they were trying to seat people in the bar area. The central dining section was wide open, though, with several diners still eating there and we asked if we might sit there instead and they agreed to seat us there. Before I had even sat down or taken my coat off, the waiter–some guy with a Russian accent–came over quickly and asked us very abruptly what kind of water we wanted. His demeanor was palpably aggressive. I stared at him for a moment in surprise and then he went away quickly, only to return with the water in less than a minute, and seeing that the menus hadnt been opened, he asked us what we would have to drink. I asked him, Are you in a hurry to be somewhere? and he said no while glaring at me. He immediately asked us for our drink orders again, and it was clear that he was intent upon trying to get us to leave for daring to ask if we can sit in the normal section and not be pushed to the bar.We chose to leave rather than continue to be treated like that and saw the hostess smirking at us triumphantly as we walked out.I live in the neighborhood and over the years I have been to Le Monde a handful of times. Though the food is occasionally decent, the staff has been nearly consistently pushy and rude. Many times they have tried to hurry me out, or hurry me to pay the check without any justification for the rush. One time, the waitress had said it was the end of her shift and that she needed us to close out out check, only to continue working for the next long while that we stayed and ordered more because we hadnt nearly finished. As you can see from the other reviews, my experience is far from unique. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place unless youre in the mood to be rushed, ignored, and generally mistreated.
The service wasnt great, but the food was delicious. I ordered a caesar salad with shrimp, and my husband ordered a croque madame. I tried a bit of his meal as well—both were delicious. The atmosphere was pretty nice, and the prices a little high, but I would recommend Le Monde. Id like to try some of the other French fare they offer.
I have had lunches and dinners here on a fairly regular basis since 2016. I have never been as disappointed as I was with tonights dinner and service. The server was someone who I had never seen before and I hope to not have again. I typically order a Diet Coke and it is served from the bar so I know that the house is making a big profit when charging 3.50 per glass. I normally dont mind because I get refills and get charged once. Tonight, not only did I have to ask, twice, for the initial drink, he never bothered to check on us, I had to flag him down for a (single) refill and then when he brought the bill, I discovered that I had been charged for that refill. 7 bucks for two glasses of Diet Coke is outrageous, even for the Upper West side of NYC.To add to the mess from tonight, I ordered a half chicken, I got a part of a let and a bit of breast... Not the whole thing. Now, I dont blame the server for that but I do blame him for this - I asked for a substitute of vegetables INSTEAD of the mashed potatoes that typically come with the chicken, normally I get a double size portion of vegetables, which I happily pay a couple dollars extra for. Tonight, I got a single portion of asparagus which I was charged the same thing as when theres a substitute!Additionally, the server came to the table not at all after taking our order. He made no attempt to check on us, no refills of water, never asked if we wanted dessert, basically he did nothing but scribble down our order. Hes the tall blonde with a kind of heavy accent - not a French accent though. Avoid him if you can! (Yes, I did tip him, I just didnt give me my usual 20%.)All in all, the lack of proper service and the other mistakes will make me think twice before I go back, especially if this server is still working there.
Okay, Community next door gets way too much attention on the weekends; this place has equally delicious (or even better) brunch, and no lines. I’ve been a few times, and can vouch for their yummy pancakes and avocado toast. My husband loves their breakfast sandwiches. Atmosphere: We get a kick out of eavesdropping on the older generation of stereotypical UWS couples/groups out to dine and gripe about life, other diners, and passersby. French music is great.
Amazing ! They managed to get a watery texture on every single ingredient. Its a miracle of failed cooking. The smell was worse. I would be clapping my hands if i didnt pay 16$ for this.Edit : The only french touch of this food is the Voilà when the waiter comes back to throw away your intact plates.Edit n2 : if i could bring down the rating with a negative star i would.
Ive been to Le Monde many, many times. The waitstaff, hostess, food runners and bartenders are always friendly, helpful and efficient. I have never had anything but excellent service and excellent food. Ive brought friends there from out of town as well as New Yorkers all of whom remarked at the warm reception we get and the great food at great prices. So I do not know what any of these negative posters are going on about. We all even loved the decor its very much like many of the places Ive been to in Paris.I guess some New Yorkers are just not to be pleased. Maybe the negative posters would be more suited to a McDonalds restaurant than an adult eating establishment like Le Monde.
Way too expensive for what it was. The salad had a really weird tasting dressing on it and the greens were not at all fresh. The bread was stale. The chicken was way too salty. The two stars are just for the good service and the location. Will not go back & do not recommend
Lovely setup! I definitely prefer the outside seating on a nice summer night. To start we had the French Onion Soup and Tuna Tartare; both amazing in their own way. The soup was very rich and had a perfect consistency. For our main course( which we were looking forward to alllll day) Duck Confit and Moules Frites WOW, everything was done just right, the portions were perfect and just can’t wait to go back!
This is the best place in this neighborhood, and by far the best beer selection. The bar is really great and the food is delicious, my favorites are the Cassoulet Toulousain and the Shrimp salad. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, even the managers stop by to see how you are enjoying your meal.
I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. I was expecting it to be yet another overpriced, bland restaurant that this section of Broadway is notorious for. The croque madame was excellent, along with the french fries. The restaurant was a little pricey, but the quality of the food justifies the cost.
Was there 5 minutes before they opened. We were the only people there. Ordered right away, ( bagle and omelette) after a half I inquired where the meal was. Said it was on the way. 7 minutes later we we served with food we did not order. Noticed that 20 minutes after we arrived a couple sat outside. We left as they did not even start to prepare our food and we sat inside next to the managers station. Ordered the same menu across the street at Toms and it came out before I finished this review.
Sunday morning brunch in New York City diner beware !!’ terrible service we wanted 20 minutes to get our order taken. Our food arrived 25 mi it’s later no water coffee or beverages given then they charged extra fir a refill of coffee? Ridiculous! The manager was exceedingly rude to his staff and customers
Definitely worth a trip to this restaurant. Honestly, I cant pick a favorite item on the menue because everything is authentic and delicious. I will say that the food is quite pricey, but it is worth spending the money. The service and ambiance were great worth going to this restaurant if you are in the area.
Brought friends here specifically for the hang. Was told kitchen was closed (1045pm).Drinks were cut off.Staff proceeded to start spraying and wiping the bar area around our party.Latino manager stacking tables around us.African American bartender too busy counting his tips to get us a glass of water
Called to make a reservation as weve been here before and wanted to come with a large group. The woman who answered was very rude. She said, We are very busy and I dont have time to take a reservation. Why answer the phone then? It only takes a minute. I started to ask, When is a good time to call back? and was hung up on before I could even finish the sentence. There are other French restaurants in the area. Our group will be going to Café du Soleil instead. I recommend you do too.
This place is really on and off, depending on the management n wait staff. At times its great everything flows smoothly, other times waiter forgets to check up on you and forgets your coffee ( cmon 15minutes for coffee in the morning?) . IT really is a shame because the food is always spot on perfect.
Terrible service! Made us wait 10 min to clear off a table while 6 other empty tables of the same size were available. Took FOREVER to take our order and even longer to bring it out — a bagel and cream cheese?! This place does not deserve your business. Never going again.
This was the worst experience EVER! I made reservations for Birthday lunch, recieved confirmation email and even on day of received reminder email of said reservation. Get there and the place is closed till Wednesday for reservations. It was Friday so possibly some Wednesday in future. Who knows. Really bad customer service when youre closed for renovations and still taking reservations. Very bad form!
This is a great local bistro with a standard menu offernings. heep an eye on the weekly speicals, muscle mondays for example. its usually packed with just the right amount of ppl but easy to be seated and the noise level neber gets above conversatinoal. very easy place to meet up with your friends,

2022-04-07Tons of outdoor seating. Service is great; our server came out to check on is without being too pushy. Menu is limited; so dont expect a large selection. Great roasted chicken and decent french onion soup. Burger and fries are great.

2022-03-25We had the steak and roasted chicken both were EXCELLENT. And the French onion soup was out of this world. The staff were very attentive.

2022-02-24One of my go-to restaurants in NYC where I know the food never disappoints. Unfortunately one of my favorite meals, lamb, is no longer on the menu. However, the organic chicken dinner was delicious and flavorful. Its four stars because the portion seemed smaller than usual. But the service is always pleasant and courteous. And the price is reasonable for dining on the upper west side. There is a broad selection of drink options, even organic wine which was pleasing to the palate!

2022-07-07Theres plenty of nice outdoor dining. The service was excellent, as usual. The food was good, although as a vegan the selection sucks. I got the hand-made veggie burger, which I ALWAYS get because its what they have. I havent eaten in NYC since before the pandemic so dont know how most restaurants are but there was quite a sticker shock when the bill came! I saw how much the burger went up on the menu but didnt notice a glass of house wine was $16 until the bill came!

2022-05-11This is my familys go-to location for Mothers Day brunch and they are always great even for such a big table full of people! The food is excellent and the service has always been really attentive. The steak and eggs at brunch is definitely a favorite, but everything weve had has been delicious.

2022-05-22Somewhat pricey but good food. I had the duck. It was cooked nicely and exactly how i wanted it. Others got the Mushroom Ravioli, which must have been great because nothing was left on any of their plates. All of the desserts were also yummy.

2021-08-16I absolutely loved Le Monde and highly recommend it! This part of NYC is more relaxed than others - we just walked up and had our choice of tables, either inside or outside. Theyve done a great job making their outdoor dining a beautiful spot! We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer, which was delicious and came with chick peas and potatoes. I got a spicy margarita, which was very good. For entrees, we got the steak frites and the mushroom ravioli, which was outstanding! We then walked to Toms Restaurant (from Seinfeld!) for dessert and coffee. Le Monde was a relaxing spot and perfect for a date night.

2022-05-10Food is always good and the setting is nice. Lovely outdoor lunch. But service always requires patience, a relaxed schedule, and a vigilant eye to flag people down. If youve got the time, its worth it.

2022-07-08Le Monde has become my favorite place for brunch in New York City. I particularly enjoy sitting outside and enjoying a full breakfast: spinach omelet, crispy bacon, sourdough toast, and the best coffee in NYC. Today, my wife and I celebrated my birthday with brunch at Le Monde and the food and service were again excellent. We especially appreciated the service from Nicole, who was so positive, proactive, and helpful. She made todays experience special.

2022-04-01Amazing soup and sandwich + dessert as part of the Chefs Tray. Great deal!
