The butter for the bread was not soft and easy to spread. This is a French restaurant. The butter should be perfection. The butter was hard and not appropriate for spreading on the wonderful bread and that was disappointing. A simple fix to a detail like that can really change the experience and I hope they do so
My significant other and I dined her last night for Valentines Day. It was absolutely delicious and the service was on point, to say the least! We especially enjoyed the Duck and Sea Bass entrees and the cocktails were made just right. In addition, we really enjoyed the dining room and the cozy nature of the restaurant. Theres a very good reason this restaurant has been around for as long as it has - great, fresh food and impeccable service. The best French on long island?
Atmosphere was very pleasant as was the attentive staff. All of the food was done perfectly with attention to detail. I would recommend Le Soir to anyone looking for a special dining experience. Book early as we have never been at Le Soir when the restaurant was empty.
Probably the best dining experience Ive ever had, sitting at a bar. We called last minute, our mistake, and they accommodated us. When we arrived, they only had a spot at the bar available, but that was a minor inconvenience. The service and food were incredible. Had the escargot as and appetizer, a salad, and then seared duck breast for the entire. Hightly recommended.
Le Soir is a small, charming French-American style restaurant with excellent service and a pleasing kitchen. No, youre not in France, but the chef makes good escargot, an excellent salad vinaigrette, a good cassoulet, a great tart tatin...you get my drift. The quality of the menu is uneven in that some dishes rise to real Frenchness better than others, but the food never disappoints--its always solidly good, and many in the neighborhood come back over and over, for that special night out. One of the better restaurants in the area, and a nice place to go via a 10 minute taxi ride when you come back from the Sayville Fire Island ferries before you get on the train to go back to NYC. Reservations are a must. Ive eaten there many, many times over the years.
One of the best dinning experiences Ive ever had. The place is more upscale but not too upscale that you must wear a suit jacket or something like that. The atmosphere is very relaxed but no matter how full the location is, it isnt loud. There is no boisterous yelling like at lower end restaurants. The food was out of this world. Fantastic quality and portions were perfect. The service was the best Ive ever had at a restaurant. They are super attentive but dont interrupt you and pester you about anything. Quick and courteous. This place is definitely one of the top higher end restaurants on Long island.
I adore this restaurant since finding it nearly 20 years ago. For just over 20 years I have been in Switzerland, French and German regions, a couple times a year for work. Visiting Le Soir is just like a visit to one of the many fine restaurants I frequent on my trips. The quality of the ingredients is unparalleled and you know that care has been taken in the sourcing of everything. Even something as relatively simple as a chicken dish is notably superior due to the quality of the meat used. The setting is quiet and neat. It is neither overly busy nor the rustic exposed wood beam and panel construction many mistakenly believe is the hallmark of a French restaurant here. Yes the the old decor, before the fire many years ago, was more in line with that but the renovation embraced the more modern setting which is the far more common norm I experience in my travels. I especially relished my most recent visit. With Covid I have been unable to make my normal work travel and desperately miss having such finely prepared meals in a neat and elegant setting. Just walking through the door brought that feeling back to me which I sorely missed. All of the dishes I have had at Le Soir are superb and a visit here is a treat.Reservations are not required but highly recommended. This is a small restaurant and they will accept walk ins but one must understand the limitations that presents. Reservations come first and are well worth the planning. Do not blame the restaurant for telling you the truth of this as I see another poster has done. This is also an establishment for adult enjoyment. They do not have high chairs and I am HIGHLY THANKFUL for that. I have children, 14 and 18 now. This restaurant is a place for quiet enjoyment and conversation. I relish the opportunity to speak with friends or as was the case recently have an anniversary dinner with my wife away from the noise of the world. I selfishly do not want to hear your toddlers or infants and did not have the audacity to inflict mine on others in such a setting when they were that young. That someone should complain of lacking high chairs in this establishment makes me thankful they do lack them! Thank you Le Soir for making every aspect of my visit enjoyable.
I wish we got to try the food but we unfortuneatly had to leave before even sitting down. This review comes solely from my husband and I being professionals in the restaurant industry for the last ten years. He’s run operations for multiple large restaurant groups and I am a professional chef and I am quite baffled at what occurred when we went to Le Soir tonight. We decided on last minute dinner plans since we were both off and wanted to try something new and a bit more upscale. We chose this restaurant. We arrived to a nearly empty restaurant to which the host asked us if we had a reservation. We did not because nowhere does it indicate that they do not accept walk ins. She told us they “might not seem busy, but it will get there. You can have table ten but you must be out in about an hour because we have a 7:30 reservation for the table” wrong conversation off the bat, I knew that meant our dinner would be rushed because they needed time to turn the table but we went to sit anyway. My husband asked for a highchair for our one year old to which we were told “we don’t do that.” So we left. The chef followed us into the parking lot to ask why we were leaving and at that point I was so annoyed my husband told him about the high chair situation. I just feel like the entire situation was so unprofessional and just odd. We’ve dined at some of the most famous restaurants in the world- Michelin Star, accolades, the whole nine, I’ve never heard of places not having seating for children. We probably won’t go back based on the fact that we’re in the industry and know that this isn’t how you obtain or retain clientele.
A bit dated. The staff there is all middle-aged and the patrons are all older. The same can really be said about the food - well cooked, but older, generic French recipes, with very little, if any, panache, other than in presentation. Even the bread felt more like a generic Italian loaf than something unique, rustic, or carefully crafted. An exception would be their vegetable soup, which I could drink by the gallon. Nothing is cooked badly - the lobster and duck were both done well, but not seasoned in any iconic or memorable way. So for the quality of the food and the experience, Le Soir is overpriced.
The ambiance was cozy and quaint. The whole staff made us feel welcome. The food was delicious and when you factor in that dinners come with soup, salad and on some evenings, dessert, the price was really very reasonable. My partys only complaint was we didnt enjoy our desserts.
My boyfriend took me to Le Soir to celebrate our 1 year dating anniversary. We had a delicious meal and the staff was VERY accommodating. We took our time and did not feel rushed. The cozy atmosphere allowed us to have a romantic date. Well, when dessert arrived, so did a box on the table! Yes, he PROPOSED!! On one knee, in front of other guests! It was like a scene from a movie. I felt like princess. It was perfectly romantic. Thank you to all the staff and its guest for taking part in our special moment. Le Soir, is now our special spot!!
Classic family, French cuisine done really well. I had the Lamb and it was done delish! My wife had the Salmon and she enjoyed it so much that I didnt hear a word from her the entire time because she was enjoying it so much. Not inexpensive but you get what you pay for here imo. Give it a try you wont be sorry.
Its a cozy nice restaurant that has few items on the menu but they taste amazing. It feels like Im in Paris eating food cooked by a French cook. The staff was great. The whole experience was wonderful. Its the perfect place for a date or even a family dinner out also would be great for a business dinner. I will definitely go back again and recommend it to everyone I know.
The staff was friendly but unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired. My fiancé took me for my birthday on Dec 28th and a quick change of plans led me to find Le Soir on google. I chose this restaurant for two reasons, the first being that a few weeks prior we had dinner at The Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor (OMG a must try!! Every dish was perfect!! 5 stars) and I wanted to try some place new. Second reason being that the menu read like a beautifully traditional a French restaurant. Well, the menu read traditional but the food missed the mark for living up to those expectations: My favorite food is French and my favorite dish happens to be foie gras, but sadly it was so incredibly greasy and fatty and not in a good way. The escargot was so tough and so chewy, I eventually just needed to swallow it whole. Over all disappointing.Because my birthday was this past month in December, I had the opportunity and the privilege of being taken out to dinner a few times by family and friends. Recent restaurant recommendations if your looking for a menu like this but a taste that matches or should I say over exceeds; The Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor, La Coquille in Manhasset, and last but not least Michelin star rated Bâtard in TriBeCa NY.I’m sorry for the harsh review, it always pains me to leave one, especially because I’m a business owner myself and I understand it’s impact. But at the same time, we work hard for every penny we make, so for the cost of the meal to be as high as it was, I would expect the quality of its preparation to match.
Ive been going to Le Soir on and off since it opened, oh so many years ago (30??). The food and the service has been consistently wonderful. Ive enjoyed a New Years Eve celebration on a few occasions as well as a wedding. The fire offered a rebuild and an expansion opportunity and the only down side I see from it is the acoustics arent as they had once been, although its nothing unbearable. I strongly recommend Le Soir for a very lovely dining experience.
Beautiful ambiance, the duck was ok, but the steak au poive was excellent and the frenched chicken was good too, the pate was ok, the escargot is delicious and the frog legs are ok. the food is great dont get me wrong and the service is professional. The entrees 3/4, appetizers 3/4, service/ ambiance is a 4/5, the dessert is 4/5. I am not a big drinker but from my experience the wine selection was a 4/5. great place for a date with your wife or better half get ready to spend though $$$$. great evening always.
We pre-ordered $150 of food on Grubhub for Valentines Day the Friday before. The order was confirmed, by the restaurant. The Grubhub driver showed up to pick up the food, Valentines Day night, and they declined him. We called the restaurant, and their poor excuse for a host said she never heard of Grubhub. Everyone has seen that terrible animated commercial on TV. We live in a pandemic for crying out loud. What a sham. If you Google Le Soir, you will see that it says, Order from Grubhub. I would wish this place a bon soir, but its more like a bon sour. Even the French, shockingly, would be embarrassed by this poor excuse for an establishment. Sorry our money wasnt good enough for you. Im happy to spend it elsewhere.
Was super excited to find a french restaurant close to home rather than Cassis in Huntington village. We walk in and the first waitress was stand offish and rude when we asked for menus to look everything over. When I explained my allergies she immediately got worse and the impression I received was that it was more hassle than just something in the service industry. The French onion soup lacked depth. The broth was pre bought with no flavor or layers and depth brought in and you could tell the onions were not caramelized long enough. The bread was not pre toasted and seasoned and the cheese was not of the same flavor profile and overwhelmed the whole dish.
Went to dinner for a special occasion - 4 people. I dont mind spending a lot of money for dinner, as long as its worth it. Our bill was over $400. Two of the dinners were the lobster special and the lobster was very tough and chewy and small. We did not complain because I was paying the bill and the other couple had suggested the restaurant so we were both too embarrassed. However, on the way home we discussed the fact that the lobster was inedible and I wrote a letter to LeSoir asking them to at least send a gift certificate to the couple whose anniversary we were celebrating. They never responded. Will not go back.
Came here once for restaurant week and the food was disgustingly so salty we didnt finish our entrees and I was constantly asking the waitstaff over for more water. My friend and I decided to take our food to go and see if we can fix it at home since it was a decently large portion that we couldnt finish. The girl who packed out food mixed out boxes and we each took the other ones food home
Am going for the first time after the fire and cannot wait to see the new digs. Food at LeSoir is always superb and we always leave stuffed to the gills. Family faves...the duck a lorange. Coquilles St Jacques, any special and especially the chocolate mousse! Waitstaff are excellant having worked there for years. Le Soir is always on top of its game!
We discovered when it came to pay the bill, that they did not accept American Express Secure Pay cards, even though they took American Express credit cards. It was awkward and annoying. It would be helpful, let alone courteous, if there were some notice about this policy before hand.
Our usual go to for our wedding anniversary.Steak and rack of lamb were cooked perfectly. Wine was very good. Both waitresses need a personality. Zero, zilch, nada.Crab cakes were served without the advertised remoulade sauce. When we inquired about it, the waitress spoke in circles and never provided an appropriate response. We have had them there before and they have been good. These were smaller than in previous occasions and were dry. Later on, the waitress attempted to clarify her answer and stated multiple other patrons asked the same question. The potato “cakes” served with dinner were so greasy.Dessert…..ehhhh. Very disappointing dinner. What really made it an unsatisfactory evening was the waitresses. Literally need to learn socializing skills. Not even a Happy Anniversary wish when they were made aware it was a special occasion.
Trés délicieux. One of long island’s best french bistros. We’ve been here a couple of times.⭐️Baked Snail $13: Snails roasted with pesto, parsley, basil and butter. The meat is firm and the soup is extremely delicious.⭐️Celery Root Soup: Add the truffle-fried mushrooms to the root celery soup, which is extraordinarily aromatic.⭐️Parsley Pesto Spring Risotto: Adds parsley, asparagus, radish, peas, onions, Italian stew with green sauce and cheese, spring colors and taste.⭐️Roast Duck with Orange Sauce $37: Duck skin is crispy, duck meat is tender, fat and thin, crisp but not greasy, and Beijing duck roast is comparable. With a sweet and sour sauce, it is delicious. The matching black rice is very fragrant and very chewy.⭐️Coulibiac of Salmon (Long Island Restaurant Week $29.95): The hidden taste of the restaurant week - salmon scones. The salmon is tender and tender, the meringue is crispy, the crepes are soft, the light buttery scent is mixed with the scent and the parsley, and the green sauce is made with pesto and basil. The mellow taste is rich and the taste is rich.⭐️Maryland Softshell Crab $38: The soft shell crab after frying is crispy and the crab is tender. Unfortunately, the matching Caper Lemon Brown Butter Sauce is too sour.⭐️Cobbler: Filled with blackberry, strawberry, rhubarb, berry, sweet and meringue.⭐️Cheese Cake: The cheese is rich and the sweetness is just right.

2022-04-02My wife and I have been coming here for years. I read some of the crazy reviews about butter, sub par food, and other guests, etc... you can ignore all of it. Excellent french restaurant, great restaurant for a nice date night. The quality is excellent from the food to the staff and the ambiance.

2022-05-22The staff is unpretentious despite the upscale atmosphere. I am a regular here and dine here multiple times a year. The mixed greens salad is a standout. Its dressing is incredibly tasty and is a meal in itself. My Favorite Entrées: Sautéed Soft Shell Crabs, Calves Liver with Bacon and Onions and Chicken Fricassée.The Chocolate Pecan Tarte is the best in its class. The dark chocolate is so dense and rich. The freshberry tartes and cobblers are my go-to desserts. There are many signature drinks. A crowd favorite is the cucumber martini, which is made with fresh cucumbers. This is definitely one of the best restaurants on the Island.Reservations are recommended unless you sit at the bar.

2018-05-06Excellent meal and service! My husband and I came here for our 2nd wedding anniversary on 5/5/18, we had the special duck linguini appetizer and escargot, the duck entree and special soft shell crab entree and the chocolate pecan tart and berry cake desserts. The entire meal was absolutely delicious from start to finish. No complaints at all!

2018-04-30What an amazing experience. I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long so I decided to today. Everything was great from the atmosphere, food and service. I had the beet salad and the sirloin streak. Both were great and it was the best meal I have had in quite some time. I will definitely be back and I recommend it to any one.

2021-11-11The staff was amazing. Jack was spectacular. The food was decent. The escargot was delicious but the duck was under seasoned. The guests were the worst part of the experience. Im glad I gave the older couple against the window staring at my table something to talk about. It made my table very uncomfortable. No class. Thrilled I dropped $600.00 to be stared at by old goats.

2020-07-25Ive been coming to Le Sour for over 30 yrs. with a lapse of 10 yrs in between. The space is cozy and calming. The food is excellent, last time we were there we had the calves liver and sauteed soft shell crabs. Food is always spot on and delicious. They have special drinks, the photo is a cucumber martini, perfect! The service is very attentive without bein cloying. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because they do not have bernaise sauce-which was always my favorite.

2021-05-03As a local resident for 17 years I finally dined at this great restaurant. I was thinking that a french restaurant would be to refined for me but I was so wrong. Great dining experience all around. Reservations was at 5:15 on a Sunday and the 4 of us ate and drank until 8:00. The time between courses was so perfect. The portions were so much more than expected. The french onion soup was the best I ever had. The chocolate mousse was unforgettable. So glad we finally went. Small and quaint but welcoming and exceptional.
