This is very cordial, and warm setting. I had a cappuccino with soy milk. My efficacious coffee was just the right potency to cure that mid-day slump feeling. There was a young lady with dreads who helped me to choose a pastry that didnt have nuts in it; this was so help, otherwise I would be having an allergic reaction. The ambiance is very comfortable, low-key, and welcoming. I brought my friend, and she enjoyed the vibe as well. This is a great place to just unwind.
A neighborhood favorite! The coffees are always great, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is chill. You can easily get some work done here, come alone and meet new people, or gather with a friend or two.I appreciate the latte art effort with to go orders as well!
This was my favourite spot to have coffee in my stay in Harlem, I love it.Before you enter in, youll realize that theres a platform just outside of the place, with a big poster of the cafés name. The place is small, but really nice, it has wood tables and chairs, with some old lamps. This place gets crowded after 8am, so if want to have a seat youd better go early to avoid waiting for a seat.Like in almost every café, there are two lanes, one for order and other in order to wait for orders. Staff is really nice, they are very chatty, kind and welcoming, split in the cashier or preparing the coffee and food. There are a lot of food to have, including pastries, muffins or bagels. There are some different kind of muffins ( my favourite is the blueberries one ) and bagels, where you can choose both bagel and fillings, I sticked with cream cheese, and they also have some different ones. At the end you can have your bagel toasted and they will notify you when its ready.Apart from typical coffee-related beverages ( they have a lot of different ones ), you can find some kinds of teas or just a Chai Latte, which its really good.Theres a good place to work with your laptop, in fact there are a lot of people with it or just reading a book. The WiFi works really good, and you can find some power plugs on the walls. The ambient is nice and the music is low, but after midday in summer it gets a bit hot as the A/C isnt able to keep up with the heat, but under the fan is okey.
After having a miserable experience at a different coffee place in lower Manhattan, this place was a joy to behold. Employees seemed like they loved their jobs and that transcends throughout the store. Very happy we found this place the coffee was great and the food was excellent. Great representation of Harlem! Definetly try the Tuna for brunch!
Was visitng the city and thought I would visit this little cafe for my birthday breakfast. For a Texas chic the place is very tiny. But the service was great, as was the coffee and food. The seating is limited and I was fortunate that someone was leaving. But I can see what the place was constantly full of people.
This is the best place for coffee and cafe food in the neighborhood. 9tails is cute, but their coffee is overpriced and they don’t have the best options for food. I try to get here on off peak times because the line can get long. Their bagels are delicious and I love the little community book section — it’s a great spot to drop off books I’ve finished. Some people complain about the length of time it takes to get through the line, but you have to keep in mind how hard they work! I see the same people there each week and they always are kind.
Lenox coffee has been a staple in my routine both before and during this pandemic. I cant express how much it means to walk into a place and feel such a sense of community. The shop has an amazing vibe so it’s unfortunate we can’t eat inside right now, but understandable, they just want their customers to be safe. So they have super cute curb side tables. Open mic night outside is my absolute favorite! The coffee and pastries are amazing. Everything from a straight black coffee to my extra hot, oatmilk lattes to my iced americanos… you really cant go wrong. Please try their blueberry scone, you wont regret it.The hours are generous for a coffee shop. The staff has always been friendly to me, most know me by name. Ive always witnessed courtesy and professionalism from their staff and actually once was there to witness them on the receiving end of horrible treatment and they responded gracefully. I could never after how the barista was treated. Which is what’s prompting this review. People, its a pandemic. These small businesses, like Lenox, are navigating ever changing restrictions and regulations, and trying their best to keep customers safe and satisfied during a global pandemic. The world needs more Lenox Coffees. Bravo Lenox!
Went there to go and get some work done, but i wasnt at all impressed. all of the tables were closed -- i assume due to covid -- except three outdoor tables on a patio across the sidewalk. id normally understand this, but it made no sense when nearly all of the employees werent wearing masks. its also crazy to me that you have to pay for wifi if you want to use it longer than 30 minutes -- ive never encountered that. even if you were to use it for only 30 mins, its ridiculously slow and keeps dropping connection.i got a single origin coffee with half and half and an almond croissant. the latter was pretty good, but the coffee was disgusting and overfilled. the barista filled it to the literal top of the to-go cup, and when i went to take a sip, it started leaking everywhere. im sure the espresso-based drinks and the iced ones are better, but i had to throw away more than half of it.finally, the customer service isnt friendly at all. im not sure why they put such rude people on cash lol. im surprised its rated so highly and so many were consistently coming.
I have lived in NYC for over 30 years - neighborhood coffee shops are wonderfully integral to the vibe of the community and each neighborhood I have enjoyed. I moved to Harlem exactly one year ago this week. My first job - find the local java joint. Lenox is the closest and the website images are marvelous. While we all navigate this current world of COVID - Lenox Coffee has been up until recently - in step with other similar businesses in the neighborhood and city. Plexi protection, signs to wear a mask, outdoor seating, etc. Once the city put in place a vaccination mandate to dine indoors - this changed at Lenox Coffee. What you will now find is taped off indoor seating and three - yes - only three outdoor tables. If you are not one of the first three people to arrive - forget sitting to enjoy a bit of relaxation and community. I have asked the staff on several occasions why they are not following the city guidelines and instead closed the indoor seating - post a sign that vaccinations are required if you wish to sit indoors and ask one simple question - which every other coffee shop asks - if you wish to sit indoors with your order I will need to see your vaccination card. Super simple. Every business in this city needs to adjust to our new reality - my working environment has changed dramatically. Is that mask 8 hours a day fun? No - but its necessary right now. I have been given conflicting reasons for the taped off indoor seating by the staff - The owner makes us do this. People sneak into the tables anyway. We dont want to discriminate against people not vaccinated. We dont have time to ask for vaccination cards. The staff is always gracious and have answered my questions courteously. To the staff / owner at Lenox Coffee - this pandemic is long from over - I encourage you to take that little extra step - take down the tape - follow the city guidelines - reopen the indoor seating - put up a sign - ask people when they place their order if they plan to sit indoors for their vaccination card. Community. Your customers will appreciate that you are offering them a place to gather SAFELY.
Love this place!! I get breakfast from here almost everyday! The service is quick and the staff is super friendly and polite. I love the outdoor set up and the happy hour they offer on weekdays. However, on the weekends, the service isnt as good. My order is either incorrect or the food is cold and not toasted as I request. This has happened on several occasions & I wont be stopping by on the weekends anymore just the weekdays until the service gets a better.
After what the city and the world have gone through, you would think everyone would want to play a part in stopping COVID, except for Lenox Coffee which 1: doesnt want to check vaccine status and 2: has no problem making its loyal customer base sit on the curb outside. Infuriating, thats why I and others have moved on. Is the owner a vaccine denier? As cruel as it is psychopathic. As this passes we will always remember where Lenox Coffee stood. The idea is to push people to getting vaccinated to save lives and open our society back up. Shame on Lenox Coffee.
Coffee was okay. There was a young girl who told me there were closed and held the door open for me to leave. This happened around 3pm. I assumed she meant no indoor dining however she did not clarify, was very short and rude with me. She seemed to have friends hanging out inside the place, unprofessional and overall unpleasant experience.
This is a great coffee spot in Harlem! I love the coffee here. I buy the beans to make coffee at home and now I can barely stand the taste of other coffee spots. I definitely recommend.Con: limited limited seating. This is not the place to go if you want to chill and work for a few hours. You may be able to do that if you are lucky enough to find a table. In the summer they have some “outdoor seating” but I use that term loosely.
Nice little coffee spot that I just happened to stumble by the other day. The area keeps on getting nicer and nicer and nicer. There’s a little spot makes a nice cappuccino and offers you a nice environment to get some work done if need be. If you’ve got the time check out the Jazz Museum next-door
The attitude is the worst. If you are going for the customer service plus skip to the nearest. No prganization as to how to order and lime but the had the nerve to demand from the customers. The latino chef needs a pill of humility and pronto. The food was not all that either.
Nice coffee shop, nice atmosphere.Very expensive, the price does not justify the products. Sometimes it is very crowded inside, not enough tables and seats. The only advantage of this place is the proximity it has to the jazz museum. Otherwise, better find a different coffee shop.
The Cafe au Lait with half and half is really good! But the single origin coffee was very acidic! The are a work friendly place with a printer and all. Very close to the 125 st station. The staff is friendly and they have open mic sessions at 8pm some days of the week. The place is not very big so it does get a little crowded. But clearly it is popular as a lot of people come here to work and get coffee.
// Edited to 5* following their kind response. Will return and edit if anything changesIve shown up three times in the last few months within the opening times on their website and Instagram, and theyve been closed. No one answers the phone either. Im sure the coffee is delicious but are they still open?
Cool place to hang out, I sat by the window til a table opened up. Treats are great. Service is awesome. Wi-fi is good ( 90 minutes?). Espresso is good, coffee is not bad, just a different flavor bean than Im used to. Packed always and easy to spot off of Lenox. I actually found it on Google Maps bc I visit my mother in law and often run, afterwards enjoying a cup of coffee. Healthy mixed patronage, kid friendly. Not sure that prices are high.. large servings of coffee, and didnt seem any more than Starbucks.
Great coffee (they use Stumptown predominantly) and baked goods. They’ve also started doing breakfast bowls that are healthy + delicious. The baristas behind the counter are speedy and I’ve never had to wait super long. I’ve never had it, but they also have a few taps and must have a chill bar setup in the evenings. Make sure you sign up for their loyalty program, as they are smart about promotions. The only thing I don’t love — they redid their floor space in the past year and got rid of a lot of the chairs. There was never anywhere to sit before, and now it’s worse. Place on taking that coffee to Marcus Garvey Park.
I come here for my hot chocolate and almond brioche fix sometimes. Great coffee, and pastries and a nice staff running the place. Despite the shops small size, it has hosted poetry readings, AIDS Walk fundraisers, and lots of other events within its walls. I do wish it were bigger as its a popular spot for the laptop set. It can be hard to get a seat sometimes. B
Love this little café. When I moved to the neighborhood I was searching for a quiet, serene, comfortable, friendly cafe and was blessed with this gem down the block from my apartment. And I love they always have events going on I went to an astrology night about a month ago.... very pleasant overall
I absolutely love this spot! In the last 9 months since the two sisters bought the place, I’ve seen it used for Open Mic, Jazz/Comedy Nights, Art Gallery (for kids), Women’s empowerment groups, fundraising, and even a monthly pop-up shop for local clothing designers. I love it here. Plus, they set up a projector to watch the World Cup. Hiyo!!!
This coffee shop was super cute! There was some construction around it which sucked but that’s not the shop’s fault. The service was great and the coffee was very good as well. There’s an open mic night on Mondays which unfortunately I missed, but it sounded like a nice experience. I hope to go back once I’m back in Harlem!
Dropped in here after visiting the library and felt quite at home. The place isnt very big but they pack in a lot of tables and chairs. It almost feels too crowded but somehow manages to still feel okay. Things are cozy and it seems like a nice spot to come hang with friends or get a bit of work done. Yep, there are outlets and free wifi and the pastries are quite tasty,
Hidden behind scaffolding right now but a GREAT place for coffee and pastries. I had their vege sandwich/roll which was delicious and filling. The coffee is delicious and youre made to feel bad if you stay back and use their wifi and work for an hour or two (as some places sometimes guilt you into...). Love this place... plus, they have wines and beer!
Generally one of my favorites in the neighborhood, but the customer service is inconsistent- everything is fresh although it can be a little cleaner certain aspects (that goes without saying if you’ve been there). It’s very disheartening to have a rude encounter, regardless of what is happening try not to take it out on the customers. Definitely turned off today and I’m a frequent visitor.
Thank God for Lenox Coffee.Coffee and tea are amah-zing. Atmosphere is hip and relaxed, something that could easily entice to while your day away sitting at one of their tables, with nice music in the background, and peruse your Mac. Pastries are excellent. I wish they had more to offer on the sandwich/salad side, this is very limited.Beer and wine is offered since recently.Culture of the place is setting a higher standard in Harlem. Thank you, Lenox coffee!
I swung by here this afternoon for the first time. Order a gigantic peanut butter cookie and a medium coffee. Both were perfectly on point, except for the coffee being a little cooler than I’d like in a fresh coffee. I’ll attribute that to coming in at 4:30 on a Monday afternoon. I’ll be back and will probably switch this to a 5 Star with a hotter cup of joe.
First time here. Would I go back? No.They werent very busy but still forgot my simple order of hot chocolate. People who came after me got their drinks before me. Later they realized I never got my drink and asked me what I got. They didnt even apologize. The hot chocolate was luke warm, and Im pretty sure I saw her putting in something that looked and tasted awfully like Hersheys chocolate syrup. Not just that but their WiFi is extremely slow, so if dont expect to get any work done there.
Had a pleasant experience at the Lenox cafe .... The space is a little cramped and congested so I think its best for a grab and go situation . I had a chai iced latte which was delicious and a Belgian waffle which was also good . Would recommend to others ! The staff was great and attentive and i love that its a gay friendly establishment !
Small room with tables, brown brick walls and baristas with tattooed hands and hats. Along one wall - tables. Seems is like magical copy machine made typical coffee shop exactly look like a many coffee shops around the City. Besides, Lenox Coffee Roaster is selling beer and wine. After all coffee is just ok.
I am so disappointed with the new corporate look and feel of Lenox Coffee that I have decided to stop going there. Owners will no doubt not miss me as I only ever bought one small coffee per visit, which I would sip for over an hour as I graded student papers and chatted with new friends. Ive been a weekend regular since I moved to the neighborhood in 2013, and over the past three years Ive met some wonderful people there--long-time Harlem residents with whom I may not otherwise have crossed paths. I valued the coziness and diversity of the place, and befriended a range of people: the man whod just returned from the Hajj; the retired janitor with his walker and iPad; the weekend dads on kid duty; I even ran into a long-lost student from California. But things have changed. Locals have stopped coming, and Im joining their ranks. A more-hipster-than-thou barristo smiled and said good riddance when I mentioned a neighborhood resident who didnt come anymore because of the unwelcome feel of the new configuration of chairs and tables. That callous remark clinched it for me. If that young mans attitude represents the new Lenox Coffee, count me out.I get it---this is a business, and businesses need to think of the bottom line first and foremost. But is the bottom line ALL a neighborhood café should be concerned with? What about the opportunity cafés provide as social hubs where people of different backgrounds and mindsets can gather, meet, exchange views, and expand their hearts and minds? Im reminded of how disappointed Ernest Hemingway became when his old work-refuge, the Closerie des Lilas, shape-shifted in its bid to cater to Pariss influx of affluent Americans. In its chase of the almighty dollar an old neighborhood establishment lost some its character forever. The new Closerie no longer welcomed the old-timers, and veteran waiters were made to shave their military mustaches and sharpen up their professional look. Now, only the glitzy rich patronized the Closerie. Gone was the starving writer in search of le mot juste, lingering all morning over a single latte. Is this really how we want our neighborhoods to go? As a white professional transplant Im certainly part of the Harlem gentrification wave. But do we have to run roughshod over longtime residents who once welcomed the chance to linger and chat with new friends over a single cup of coffee?I am sad to say goodbye to my weekend mornings at Lenox Coffee. But Im done. The place has become a dead zone in my heart.

2022-02-25This is my favorite neighborhood cafe, by far. Although I always do take it out, its perfect for meeting up with a friend or just getting some work done. The staff is very friendly and they remember your usual orders, which is great when I am in a rush. Anything you get, you will enjoy. I always get the Iced vanilla oat latte. Is so delicious, and well-prepared. Please try the breakfast sandwich, It’s a must!

2021-10-11Uptown coffee shop serving fine coffee and eats on a quiet-ish street is Lennox Coffee. was recently in Harlem and stop in for a Sunday afternoon pick-me-up and was pleasantly delighted by caffeinated beverages, here. there is a good amount of seating inside and some seating outside the entrance. the vibe is relaxed and casual. the coffee dominates the space and there are nice touches like a sleeve of books lined up at the front window.ordered a cold brew with oat milk and it was good. the barista carefully took time making my drink and it showed in the end product. a smooth caffeinated drink perfect for strolling through a neighborhood and taking in its sights, sounds, and charms. this was a delicious drink—wish Lennox was closer to me as i’d be here a lot more often. cold brew, $4 + tax + tipthe staff is efficient. wasn’t super chatty but the coffee is good.

2021-10-06Friendly staff & a very delicious latte - I ordered another after tasting and finishing the first cup. I liked the option of adding tomatoes to my cream cheese bagel, and I enjoyed a small, tasty banana-nut muffin. On a Sunday morning, the line of customers never stopped, but still they served us in a timely manner.Update: my next visit wasnt as great. The latte still tasted delicious, but the person on the counter was rigid and military-like. Totally a different experience from my first visit, so I deducted one star!

2021-10-10There is always a line at 8am when they open but its actually pleasant -- gives you a time to slow down in this crazy city. Plus, it gives you a sense of how popular (and good!) this coffee shop is. :) The menu is actually larger than what they have on the black board, admittedly, it took me too long to figure that out. Haha. They also have a cute take-one-leave-one book section by the printer. You wont regret stopping by. ❤️

2022-05-13I’ve been getting my latte for Lenox for months now and I can say that their servings are flavorful. The place is cozy and well-curated, perfect for friendly meet-ups. The people here are super nice and highly efficient, so even if I’m in a rush, I still go to Lenox.

2022-06-15Best coffee in town (which in NYC says A LOT). I go 8 blocks out of my way passing 4 other coffee shops along the way to make sure I start my day right. The coffee is great, the baristas are wonderful, and the food is ok. If you are a caffeine junkie spectacular coffee definitely trumps spectacular food.

2022-06-11Such a cute hidden gem in Harlem . I loved the vibe, the music and the coffee- got myself oat milk latte with lavender syrup and it was very good. Will definitely go back.
