Cookies are Delicious and the other pastry items are as well. But I feel so bad for the workers there. It’s so hot, I was only in the store for about 7 minutes and I’m sweating more than my walk over. I asked them to turn on the AC, they said that it’s on. It’s hotter inside than outside !
COOKIES FROM HEAVEN! If you are a native New Yorker or just visiting, Levain is a NYC Experience MUST DO. Their cookies are the star of the show and unquestionably the very best you will have anywhere. They are the quintessential cookie and they make an unforgettable gift (if they make it without being gobbled up). You will never believe these incredible morsels are created in this quaint and understated bakery, so small you might miss it. Be sure to put this on your itinerary or weekly shopping list. You will not regret it!
Yes it may be touristy but there has to be a reason why these cookies are so popular right? I dont have the biggest sweet tooth but I was thoroughly impressed by this cookie! I feel like its a cookie that was taken out of the oven before its cooked all the way through and Im not mad at it. Its damn good. Definitely the best chocolate chip cookie Ive had! Couldnt eat it all in one sitting because it was very rich, so it made for a nice treat later. This will definitely be a new stop every time I come to NYC from now on.
Finally see them back! Since I’ve tried various items from them, I got the raspberry bomboloncini this time. I’ll say it was still good but I won’t recommend until nothing is available..😅I believe the they can play more creative with the raspberry filling.. 🍪Cookies, walnut bread, brioche are still best choices!
Still the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever tasted to date!! We were so excited to try this because my friend saw a lot of raving about Levain NYC. Eat it while still warm. The macadamia nuts were crunchy, chocolate chips melted, the dough is the right kind of chewy for me. Will try the other cookies soon. Pair it with milk. It’s addictive!
This review is only for the taste of the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie. I had no issues with the service at the bakery nor did I try the other products. The cookie is overly sweet, I could not eat more than 2 bites. It also tasted burnt and had no peanut butter flavor.
My co-worker’s and myself had these cookies delivered to us today from one of the Resident’s and his wife. OMG when I say I’m in heaven and these cookies are deee-lisssshhhhhes, 1 cookie can be shared by 2 people. I love them and may order some for myself and my family!!! I definitely will share this bakery with my family and friends (no doubt)!!!
The cookies are great and melt in your mouth ... But they are only good for eating fresh while the chocolate inside them is warm. Once it goes cold, its still good but not as good as the fresh ones. The place however is extremely small with very little space to stand and eat. But the turnaround is pretty fast so you only have to wait a few minutes. As youre wait the warm aroma of freshly baked cookies prepares you for the ultimate chocolate treat :)Highly recommended.
It was recommended to me by some friends telling me that I was going to find the best cookie in New York and although I was not very convinced, they were right. They serve it fast, in a very shabby place, but the cookies are incredible. They are hot, with melted chocolate inside. An atrocity not tasted.
I must be missing something here. The cookies here are so supposed to be life changing. I give them points for fresh, well made, texturally pleasing, hefty sized “cookie.” I tried all four varieties available. The best balance of flavor was the chocolate peanut butter. The oatmeal raisin was so bland. Some people reviewed how wonderful it was and how they could taste the cinnamon. I think they forgot the cinnamon. The chocolate walnut was just ok. The line was short, ordered and had my cookies in hand in 10 min around 2pm on a weekday. Their trash was overflowing. If you are not the occasional baker and want a cookie fix, and enjoy scone-like cookies, this is the place for you.
Great little bakery with some of the most amazing cookies ever. Levain Bakery has built quite a reputation over the years and its not in vain. In spite of the small place and the long queue, once you reach that counter and taste those mouth-watering cookies youll see its all worth the while. I only visited the store located in 74th Street but Ive heard they added a new location which may mean shorter wait or maybe more sitting space. In any case, you can take away and enjoy in any of the neighbouring parks. An obligated stop if youre in the area.
While smaller than some of their other locations, the staff are easily some of the friendliest and most welcoming out of really any establishment in New York. Obviously youre here for the warm and gooey cookies, but dont overlook their other baked goods and even lunch items! Located in the beautiful Upper West Side, enjoy your cookies on the go or enjoy them inside along their counter areas. Just be aware that this location is located below street level so it is not wheelchair accessible. Otherwise, fabulous location with incredible service.
I have wet dreams about these cookies. They will change your life... even make you believe in God. If you get scared off by the insanely long line... try to hold out, they are sooo worth the wait. 👏👏👏👏 Absolute best cookie I have had in my life in all of my worldly travels.
Their chocolate chip cookies have walnuts! That immediately won me over. They are $4 for one, but so worth it and the cookies are filling. You only need one. I come here about once or twice a year because these are a special treat for me. I want to try their other goodies eventually. Highly recommend!
Superb cookies. Just a small selection, but I like it that way. Gimme some great cookie and a good espresso and you got a new friend in me! The original place is very cute but always packed and a huge line outside, but just a small walk up the street and they have another store. Its bigger, yes a bit less cute, but the lines are much more manageable. And with just a little wait youll have a cookie that has just the right crunch, softness and chewyness to make all your problems disappear...for the moment.
Best cookie ever!I feel so guilty when I ate those cookies, but I still finish whole. Because its too hard to stop!!My favorite is oat meal raisin, they just perfect match, and the flavor are just amazing. And sometime I would buy the chocolate chips walnut as well.dark chocolate and chocolate peanut butter was way to heavy to me, but if you are chocolate lover and love sweet stuff, you will be addicted to this!
Best cookies in the world!!! Have tried several flavors but their Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies would still be my favorite. I tried bringing home in ziplocks from New York to Manila and they were still good even after more than a week. Their brioche breads were also a revelation!
Hands down some of the best cookies on the east coast. They are always warm and freshly made, full of chocolate, peanut butter, or whatever fixings are in that particular cookie... Each of these gooey treats have the same volume of at least 2 or 3 normal cookies. Totally worth the trek to get there, no matter where you’re coming from. A+++++
Love love the cookies here! I come very time I am visiting NYC. The texture..the quality. The tastes. Always well worth the purchase price. The cookies are really thick. Almost like a scone. Let’s you savour it for longer. Pictured below is the Chocolate peanut Butter. So good!
The hype and the line is worth it. These cookies are deliciously addictive - soft, gooey, warm, and soulful. They are also the size of your face (at not an unreasonable price). We waited maybe about 15 minutes - the line moves pretty quickly. We ordered a variety - all of them were pretty good (and warm out of the oven!), though the original was the best for me.It was a nice day and we walked to Central Park afterwards to enjoy every single bite. There wasn’t after all much place to sit - it’s more of a grab and go.
Totally deserving of its popularity and fame, the cookies here are large, thick and chunky. We ordered the “Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip” and the “Chocolate Chip Walnut”. If you are a chocoholic, the former is a must-have. Once your teeth breaks through the very thin layer crunchiness on the outside, your mouth will be met by fantastically gooeyness from the melted chips within. The latter is also very enjoyabke with an added bonus of fragrance from the nut.A visit here is vital for all who love cookies.
The cookies from Levain were delicious! Very thick cookies, so the outside was nice and crispy while the inside was still soft, which was perfect. However, the brioche was a little lacking. We went right near closing time, so perhaps if it has been freshly made it would have been better, but at that point it was just okay.Even despite the brioche though, I’d definitely go back for the cookies!
This is a delicious cookie. Theres no way you eat this and dont agree. Is it the best cookie in the world? Only if you like undercooked dough, which I happen to love. The outside is crispy. Almost too crispy, but just right. The inside is moist and intentionally undercooked. And amazing. Ill be back for sure. Protip: share one with someone if you like fitting in to your clothes -- theyre about 850 calories by my estimate :)
Ive had a number of places bookmarked for such a long time and it almost feels I owe it to myself to visit all these places- one of which is Levain! Have seen many pictures of the ginormous cookies all over social media and just constantly seeing it on Yelp! My fiance who tried these cookies at work loved it and decided to get it for me for my birthday! The inconvenience for him to travel all the way from work to get me these cookies really made my day- best part? He got to of each available flavors so our families can also have some! Chocolate chip walnut of course was very veryyyy good- the walnuts give the extra crunch and helps offset the very sweet cookie in general. Loved it! What I didnt see coming was that my fiance and sister LOVED the oatmeal raisin cookie most! My mom who usually complains about sweets also caved in and said the oatmeal raisin cookie was delicious! Lots of raisins but not too sweet. We also got to try the chocolate peanut butter cookie and the double chocolate chip cookie- both of which were delicious but a tad on the sweeter side- they were the kids favorite! This is definitely a FOMO shop! Cookies are huge and just really delicious.
Tiny hidden gem on UWS!! The most incredible cookies ever!! Enough crunch on the edges with a soft melting chewy inside. If youre lucky you might even get one that is still a bit doughy - like I did. The only negative comment is that it only has 4 flavors to choose from and nowhere to sit to indulge the cookies still warm.
Delicious tasting MASSIVE cookies. I thought I could eat 2 for dessert one evening but I was wrong. One of the chocolate chip walnut cookies put me in a coma and I had to save the second for breakfast the next morning. They are fantastic cookies though. Definitely try them out.The dark chocolate cookie was my favorite one Ive tried. The shop is below street level so keep an eye out when heading there.
3 words is all it takes to describe this place.WORLDS BEST COOKIES.Seriously they were...5 minute walk from central park and worth any queues you might find.We got the dark chocolate and peanut butter and the choc chip and walnut cookies. They were outstanding and still warm and gooey. We also got a blueberry muffin each which again was still warm the full of flavour, not bitter or tart like some muffins Ive had before.Im already waiting on friends to go to bring me back some of these wonderful delights!A cookie will never be the same again!
There’s a reason this place has been a stalwart leader in the NYC cookie scene for more than 25 years. The smell of chocolate chips cookies that assaults your senses when you first enter the bakery is intoxicating and makes you want to simply purchase one of everything they sell. After the difficulty of sticking to buying just two cookies, I dove into them to make sure they tasted as good as they smelled. The warm insides were complemented well by the nuts, giving it a bit of solidness inside to match the outside. The classic but chocolate chip was the better of the two but the chocolate chocolate chip wasn’t too far behind! The line for a cookie wasn’t too long and well worth the wait.
Must try!! Their cookies after amazing, warm, buttery, and super delicious. Freshly baked all day long. They dont sit long as the line of patrons will tell you, theyre one of the best in the city. If youre not down for the sweets, try their savory. They sell sandwiches, rolls, other baked goods, Italian donuts, and pizza!
Absolutely loved the cookies at this bakery. My favourite was the oatmeal raisin one, as it was a little less rich and decadent ;). Nonetheless, the chocolate walnut was also lovely, with its big chunks of walnuts and high quality chocolate chips (of which there was absolutely no shortage!). Oh and sidenote: the guy who helped us was very kind and calm, good vibes all-over. HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT!
The legendary cookie store often awaited by many customers to enter. As a person who’ve shopped here dozens of times—for myself sometimes, but mostly for others—I would say it’s probably not worth trying their non-cookie options when their cookie is simply the most splendid.
Food: ALL THE COOKIES AND ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN SALVAGE AFTER THE LONG LINES OF PEOPLE HAVE ATTACKED IT! The best cookies in the city. Warm, chewy, buttery, rich, and a great portion.Service: Quick, they have no choice.Price: Who cares? Buy it.Menu: Whatever did not sell out is available, so it varies.Decor & Atmosphere: Just get the damn cookie.Overall: Get the damn cookies.
If you want an exceptional baked treat or cookie this is the place you are looking for! All of Levains cookies are unique and special. This has been such a wonderful addition to the neighborhood - I feel fortunate to be able to shop here on my visits to Harlem. Its a tiny place and requires patience at times. No wonder that it is #1 for bakeries. If you want a traditonal cookie this is not the cookie you are looking for but if you want the best cookie ever go for it. Levains cookie is amazingly delicious! Its ginormous and you can eat it in little pieces for two days or moreeeee (I do that) and it wont be dry or weird. Levains cookies are unique. They are a New York must try experience.Oh, my mouth is watering now and Im so far from New York.
A very small but popular cookie shop. I took a 50min train ride with my friends after a long day just to taste the famous cookies. The cookies were loaded with ingredients and were quite large. Just one of them was enough to he filling. The employees were very friendly as well. But the cookies were too sweet for me.
I watched a YouTube video about the best cookie in NYC which lead me on my pilgrimage to Levain. We only had to wait about 5 minutes until we were allowed in. It felt very rushed so we ordered 1 chocolate chip walnut and one chocolate cookie. Expensive? yes. Worth the hype? no. I mean it was quite sweet and nothing particularly amazing. I ate 1/2 then stuffed it in my purse for later.
9.10.17 - its like heaven in your mouth. Their cookies are more like cake- or brownie-cookies. Dont be surprised if theres a line, long or short, itll move fast. Its crowded at the counter, but the staff is nice and patient. In addition to cookies they serve cake and prepared foods, too. Credit cards accepted. Each cookie is about $4-$5.Not too sugary, ample nuts and chunks of chocolate, and large. Youll want tonkeep coming back!
The rich aroma as you walk down the steps into the shop is a warm welcome. The walnut chocolate chip cookie is pegged as the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC and it does not disappoint. Order a glass of milk or coffee to accompany it for the full experience. The oatmeal raisin cookie is also top notch. The line is long, but it moves quickly. There were about 30 people in line outside and it was only about a 10 minute wait. Its worth the wait.
Incredibly delicious !!Every time my family and I visit NYC, we have to make a stop at Levain. Their cookies are so moist, delicious and tasty. 1 cookie could be shared by 2, or if you really want to keep it all to yourself go for it! Can’t wait to go back to have more!
After hearing lots of raving online about Levain cookies I had to try them on my last day in the city. I thought it had a cute interior and friendly staff. Also love how big the cookies are-extra crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Unfortunately the flavor itself was a bit lackluster. Would’ve been a perfect cookie if it were saltier or had any extra dimension to set it apart from a regular chocolate chip cookie. Maybe the other flavors are better but I wasn’t impressed.
The bakery is a local gem with a high social media following. The cookie was good, just not great. Long line waiting to get down to a small counter and limited selections that did not include your standard fare cookies was also a bit of a disappointment. It was easy to get to and worth the jaunt from midtown, just not amazing.
The best cookies Ive had. I dont even know how they were able to make such a delicious cookie. Hard on the outside yet soft and moist on the inside. This would be my top recommendation when visiting New York. I sure as well know that Ill be back for more.Do yourself a favour and try the cookies
Still requiring masks after the city lifted its mandate? Not exactly following the science and dragging this thing on longer than necessary. If youre not ditching masks now, when will you? Or do you plan on wearing masks forever? Good luck with that. The staff were lovely. The hazelnut cookie was overpriced and overrated.
Delicious, warm cookies where the choc chips on the inside are melted. My partner and I bought one each however they are quite rich and filling so we could have easily just split one. Having them with a glass of milk tops off the experience! We went to the original bakery on 74th however there’s a bigger second store that has recently opened on Amsterdam Avenue that apparently doesn’t have a queue. Definitely put this place on your to the list!
Is it small? Yes. Will there be a line? Probably. Is it worth the hype. Absolutely. Of all the overrated bakeries in the city, Levain isnt one of them. Ive tried their chocolate/walnut (most popular) and dark chocolate. Personally the dark chocolate is amazing. Also the cookies heated up the next day are still great.
This has been on my to do list for a while. Though there was a line, it was fast and the cookies make the whole wait worth while. It was 33 °F today. Try it on the spot when its still warm or heat it when you are home. The gooey chocolate chips with the rich chocolate cookie makes a perfect match in heaven. Ive also bought the chocolate chips walnuts cookies, slice of banana chocolate chips bread and the sour cream coffee slice. For my hand warmer, I ordered the Valrhona hot chocolate which is one of the item on chocolate festival each year.
I ordered a chocolate chip walnut cookie and could not believe how heavy it was!! It was absolutely delicious and tasted like it contained about a pound of butter. I had to eat it over the course of two days (and shared with others) because it was so rich, but I have no regrets.
This place was recommended by my aunt and I have heard that it was one of the best cookies in New York. Its a very cozy shop that doesnt look like a powerhouse. But I am so glad we made the mission out to get these cookies.Ended up getting 2 of each kind: chocolate chip with walnuts, oatmeal raisin, chocolate peanut butter and double chocolate chip. They came in this nice box, all individually wrapped and still warm. The crisp on the cookies when you first bite into them, then the warm chocolate chips melting into your mouth. The cookies themselves feel dense, and it would have been amazing with a nice cold glass of milk. There are other pastries and goodies that Levain Bakery makes, but I will make a trip out of those cookies whenever Im in NYC
Bought eight chocolate chip cookies, which arrived on time but tasted horrible, if not worse! They didnt taste anything like the original chocolate chip cookies. Given the hype surrounding these cookies, Im in shock! They had a bland, raw , bitter horrendous taste! Im really irritated because I just spent my 70 bucks on the eight worst disgusting most cookies Ive ever had!
Levain Bakery was recommended to us by friends who recently went to New York, and Im glad I had the opportunity to check this place out. The cookies were so good and I paired it with a cup of milk on the side. Soft and gooey on the inside with a bit of a crunch on the outside. The cookies are made to a perfection and if you ever are considering of giving Levain a try, I highly recommend it!
I had no idea what to expect, but woah....these cookies are good! I tried the chocolate chunk with walnuts and the dark chocolate with peanut butter. The chocolatey peanut buttery goodness won me over. It’s like a lava cake with little nuggets of pb wonder. They’re intense, so stay home if you’re looking for some light hearted dessert.
This is not a good cookie. The fact so many people apparently think it is, demonstrates just how insane the world has become. I would like a refund of the $50 dollars of inedible garbage that arrived in the mail at my door stop. Thank you though for your prompt shipping.
Seriously Literally Actually Absolutely the best cookies I ever ate. HUGE. I wish they had more locations.Bought 6 chocolate chip ones with walnuts in them. They lasted 4 days in the bag. Tasted the same on the 4th day. Slight crisp on the outside and so soft on the inside. Filled with chocolate chips and walnuts. Heavenly.I also got the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. Deeeelicious 👌
The cookies are delicious here (a little heavy) but the brioche with chocolate chips was the real star for me! My mom got an iced coffee and was happy with that as well. Id recommend it to anyone, the wait shouldnt be too bad (Ive been a few times and only wait 10-15 minutes). Service is friendly and efficient. They have four flavors of the cookies, the best one in my opinion is the chocolate chip walnut followed by the chocolate with peanut butter chips. Theres very little seating and its very crowded inside, so its best to buy your goods and then eat elsewhere.
Honestly the best cookies Ive tasted. If you come to NYC, this is the one place you HAVE to visit.I was visiting New York for the first time, and the first place I visited after getting off my train was Levain Bakery. I went on a Wednesday at 9:30AM, so there was no big line out the door or really any line at all. The shop isnt HARD to find, but it isnt easy to find. Its on a basement floor level, so keep your eyes peeled.I ordered two chocolate chip walnut, one dark chocolate chocolate chip, and one oatmeal raisin. I loved them ALL.All the cookies have a beautiful crispy outer shell, but theres a soft and warm middle. The chocolate chip walnut has a great amount of chocolate and the walnut addition is a great texture combo. The dark double chocolate was a chocolate lovers delight, and its the first one I ate. What surprised me is the oatmeal raisin. It is the best oatmeal raisin cookie Ive eaten. Its not too sweet, but theres a creamy, buttery and cinamon (?) taste of the dough. In every bite theres a lot of raisin, and honestly I would go back and order more of the oatmeal raisin. It was not dry, and I saved half so I could eat it back at home (19 hours later!). If you warm it up in the microwave for 10 sec, the inside gets nice and gooey again.Seating is very limited, so its better to eat outside and enjoy the weather while eating a warm cookie.Overall, when I come back to NYC, this will be the first time I visit again. The service was fast and great and worth every penny (and calorie!)
Yum!! Best cookie I have EVER had!!!I was sad the weren’t selling any classic chocolate chip cookies. There were only 4 cookie flavors. We got dark chocolate with peanut butter chips and chocolate chips with walnuts. They were both AMAZING! The dark chocolate cookie almost had the texture and flavor of a gooey brownie on the inside. They were both a little crisp on the outside and gooey (but not raw) on the inside.Between the 3 of us we ate 2 cookies and it was very filling. Will DEFINITELY go back!
The cookies at this bakery are really good, they’re a bit filling though so if you’re planning on having dinner, try not having these cookies before because you’ll probably be full. I tried their dark chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Honestly, I’m not a fan of their actual ice cream,it taste slightly artificial and just blah. However, in combination with the cookie it’s pretty good. I definitely recommend this place especially if you’re looking for a filling dessert, or if you just have a major sweet tooth. I would definitely be returning to try there other cookies.
The best cookie in New York. 74th street is my fave location as due to the high volume of people cookies come out fresh all the time. Whereas in the other locations such as Harlem, it doesn’t receive the same kind of traffic and so I haven’t gotten that signature gooey in texture and crisp outer texture that people love levain for!
Such incredibly delicious cookies. My favorites are the chocolate pb chip, and chocolate chip walnut. They are huge and not a bad price for being NYC. The employee who took my order was friendly and patient as I tried to accurately place my order since I was splitting the quantity between two boxes to bring home as gifts. My only complaint is that cookie prices are marked up by 50% if you want to order them online, not even including the cost of shipping.
The cookies, of any flavor, worth every penny you spent there. I strongly recommend them. But prepare yourself: the line is giant! You can have luck, try it anyway. The ice coffee is good but its nothing compared to the emotion youll have eating the cookie. Theyre big, with tons of chips and the dough is soft and delicious! Go go go
Tried the chocolate chip walnut and the chocolate peanutbutter one. Waited in line for about 5 minutes for them. These werent the best cookies Ive ever tried. Im not sure why the place is so popular. The cookies are huge and taste ok. Theyre not bad. I cant imagine Id ever wait in line for them again though.
This is my favorite cookie bakery EVER!! The cookies are HUGE and perfect- slight crisp on the outside and ooey gooey deliciousness on the inside. I especially love them fresh, or warm them 10 seconds in the microwave. Also, the new location 2 blocks away is bigger and helps- no line on a summer sunday!
This is a super busy shop! It is very small and very crowded. But the cookies here are amazing. They look and smell amazing and when you get them they are so warm. I have heard that all of the other pastries they sell are also amazing and will totally come back here to try the rest of them! Everyone of these cookies was so delicious. Cookies aren’t even really my thing, but I could eat all four of these. They were really thick and the middle was still really gooey.
The biggest, best cookies in NYC. So satisfying--you can eat two, but you might regret it. One is filling. Any flavor is good, but chocolate chip walnut is best. Only downside is that at $4 per cookie, you would go bankrupt if you buy a dozen. However, YOLO. Go eat em in Central Park.
Small bakery selling delicious, enormous cookies! You will get them still warm and ready to eat. But after a trip back home and a few days later they are still great. When this place is busy, go to the new location around the corner a few blocks uptown. Subway station nearby!
We were able to make it to this bakery JUST before closing time. We had to go quite a bit out of the way to get there. (Our hotel was on 6th Ave and 32nd Street). But we just HAD to try one of Levains famous cookies. Unfortunately the chocolate chip was sold out, but we got the Chocolate chocolate chip. We had just finished dinner so I saved it into we got back to the hotel. Once I had a bite, I immediately wished wed bought more than just one cookie. It was soooo good. And totally worth our travel time. When you go, buy multiple cookies-- youll be glad you did.
Oh man these cookies are just unreal. I will say theyre almost TOO good - too rich and delicious and I can never finish a whole cookies myself! I can barely eat half! (In one sitting... Oh it does not go to waste!) I recommend getting a few different ones so you can try the different flavors - the double chocolate and the normal choc chip ones are just out of this world. There tends to be a line but its okay burn a few extra calories and stand there, itll be worth it considering what youre about to eat!!
Deliciousness... I stayed in line inside the store for 15 minutes and when it was my turn I couldnt be served because I didnt have a mask on... I couldve known that before standing in line. Nobody said anything. I bought the mask next door and stay in line again. It was a very Delicious cookie. But what a waste of precious time. Mask up before you purchase. No problem if you dont wear them until your turn though.
The cookies were delicious!! And they are huge! The line was out the door when we got there, but moves very fast. We were probably in/out within a few minutes. We had the oatmeal raisin, walnut chocolate chip , and dark chocolate peanut butter chip - which was my favorite!Stock up when you are there because they are $4, if you order them online they are $6!!
My friend said to come here for the best cookie ever and he wasnt wrong. The cookies are massive, chewy, and decadent. We had an artichoke and guyere flat bread for a quick snack and it was crispy, cheesy, and delicious. The one disappointment was the blueberry muffin which was kind of dry and more breadlike than cakelike.
All the Instragram fuss and people telling me it was one of the best cookies in NY so I went here and I have to approve! So soft, tasty, just perfect. After trying it the 1st time I had to make a last stop before heading to the airport and I brought a big box of cookies back to Canada because they were amazing! :)
The cookies! The cookies. I want to take the hour and 20 minute trip from my house in Brooklyn and go there right now for cookies. The line looked long, stretching about 4 or 5 doors down from the bakery, but it really only took about 15 minutes. I had the chocolate chip walnut and the dark chocolate peanut butter. I ate the chocolate chip walnut immediately while it was still warm from the oven and gooey in the middle. Best cookie of my life, maybe. Eat these.
Some say that the best cookies in the world are made in Manhattan ..but there is NO doubt that the best cookies in Manhattan are made by Levian. For the best punch eat it there and wash it down with their hot chocolate or coffee ... The walnut chocolate cookies are the ultimate in the craft.
As someone who has eaten many Chips Ahoy! cookies and freshly baked cookies (by good bakers of course) in their lifetime, Levain Bakery falls on the better side of the spectrum. But I was trying to find the WOW factor that most reviewers seem to imply. Yes, Levain Bakery probably makes the best cookies in NYC, but this is how freshly baked cookies taste like. Where is the WOW factor that my grandma cant do with her oven? I guess the WOW factor comes from the fact that 90% of other NYC bakeries cant seem to maintain a level of freshness that Levain Bakery is so good at. I got one of each cookie type and my favorite was the classic chocolate chip and let me tell you...these cookies pack a punch in taste and in mass (theyre unbelievably heavy for its size).Upon reading some reviews, one review struck me, so I would like to make more aware of this issue to whoever finds this important: Levain Bakery have used high gluten enriched bleached bromated flour. Interesting stuff when you look into it. Unfortunately, I dont know if they still use this ingredient.-update-The owner replied back to me and stated that all Levain Bakery shops have stopped using bromated flour last year. Hooray!
By far my favorite chocolate chip cookie (so far) in NYC! Definitely worth trying at least once. These cookies are HUGE but the walnuts cut the sweetness and balance out the flavor. When they hand you the cookie, its still warm! Perfect for a walk home on a fall evening. Their oatmeal cookies are also two thumbs up. You MUST stop by!
I hate writing a negative review especially because the cookies really are the most delicious best tasting cookies in the world when you get them here at the original store because they are nice and crisp on outside and ooey gooey warm on the inside...same deliciousness in the main store that I tasted several years ago before they opened up more chains. These were my favorite cookies of all time until I found out what ingredients were used.Banned and illegal in China, EU, Peru, Nigeria, Brazil, Canada, Sri Lanka, India and California, Levains uses bromated flour! Google it, you can read up on BROMATED FLOUR and POTASSIUM BROMATE on Wikipedia and live science as well as several other websites. 1991 the FDA has urged bakers to voluntarily stop using it. In California a warning label is required when bromated flour is used.[9] Levains uses HIGH GLUTEN ENRICHED BLEACHED BROMATED FLOUR. Thank god we dont have this in California. This was the last time in September that I will eat these cookies which is such a shame because seeing as how profitable and successful this business has become with 2 other chains, I dont see why they cant use better quality ingredients. They would probably make an even bigger killing selling organic or even gluten free cookies so they can spread the love to an even greater number of ppl with allergies/sensitivies.Levain, please progress with the times and switch to better ingredients or if you want to keep the carcinogenic cookies then offer a less toxic version so more of us can enjoy it!!!!! If you are reading this, please be aware of the health risks, google the flour for yourself, spread the awareness that way Levains might make some positive changes! Personally I would not advertise this place to my loved ones and friends after knowing this information, and I regret telling so many people about Levains cookies for all these years
People say money cant buy true love.I say people are WRONG.Money (and only $4) can buy you TRUE LOVE WITH THE MOST AMAZING COOKIE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.Its so amazing that, if they passed out Levains Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies at heavens gate, I wouldve converted to Christianity. Okay, no, but I would at least seriously consider it for a few minutes. That is, until the cookie vanishes into my belly.
The best cookies in all of Manhattan. $4 a piece but they weight 6oz so they are no joke. My favorite is the dark chocolate chocolate chip, but I’m hoping one day they will make a regular chocolate chip cookie without nuts and then that might take first place. This is definitely worth the line and the trip uptown!
Cute little spot. Friendly staff efficient service keeps the busy line moving and there wasn’t too much more than 10mins to wait. Now for the “downside”; this place’s reputation is built on their cookies, but I honestly found them to be nothing spectacular. Maybe they just aren’t my kind of cookies? Certainly enough reviewers here disagree with me.I tried the chocolate chip walnut and didn’t enjoy it. I found it far too sweet and cloying and while I know the middle is supposed to be “soft” mine felt closer to “raw”.The nail in the coffin for me was their brioche fingers.I tried both a chocolate one and a cinnamon one and they were terrible. The brioche was flavorless, dense and tough and I almost wondered if stale. Possibly the dough was under proofed. The filling did little to salvage the train wreck encasing it.At Levain’s price point, I expect near flawless execution. A completely inedible pastry for 5-6 bucks is pretty unacceptable.
I went there today after hearing so much about these cookies and I was extremely disappointed. I tried the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies. They were too sweet for me and I couldnt even finish half of the cookie and threw it in the trash. I wouldnt recommend trying these and especially not waiting on line for it.
These hockey puck- sized cookies are amazing - solid on the outside and warm and goey on the inside. Expect a line, sometimes down the block. The service is quick and efficient and the inside space is small, so be ready with your order once its your turn. Take some to go!

2022-03-31I am an avid home baker, and knowing my passion for cookies in particular, my friend brought me a Levain chocolate chip walnut cookie all the way from New York!!! (I live in Canada!) This was a simple, classic cookie executed to perfection. I enjoyed it as directed on the Levain cookie care card: I warmed it up in my oven for a few minutes, and the cookie, though a little over a day old by the time I got to it, was beautifully crisp on the outside and tender, sticky and gooey inside! The walnuts and chocolate chips were a perfect complement to each other, and while I personally prefer a less sweet cookie dough, the flavours in this cookie were undeniably well-balanced. And of course, this cookie was characteristically enormous. A full meal worth of cookie, as it were... though that didnt stop me from finishing the whole thing in one sitting, with some milk tea, shortly after dinner!

2022-06-28When I saw “best cookies of NY” I was hesitant… but let me tell you it is well worth the tittle. They were chunky, but smooth, just the right amount of sweetness, basically as good as one cookie can be.I liked not just the cookie but also the small bakery and branding.

2022-03-26Finally at Levain! Personally i think the cookies are very good, but not amazing. It lacks a bit of salt and dries out significantly when its a day old. The walnut chocolate chip is the best (very fresh walnuts! ) i love how quaint and small the place is. It get crowded anytime so come early and get in line.

2022-04-12We walked by Levain Bakery all the time, but rarely thought of getting bakery items inside until my family gifted us some cookies. They were delicious! I liked the Oatmeal Raisin cookie. My daughter likes anything with chocolate. I like how large the cookies were and their shapes were taller than other flat cookies I used to have. Definitely going back to get some for my friends.

2022-06-02Had really high expectations and wasn’t disappointed. The texture, the gooey middle and the occasional crunchy when biting the sides are just perfect.Took some in a box and crossed the Atlantic, they were still good after a few days (accidentally refrigerated against the advice that it should be frozen - was still good).

2021-12-28These cookies were simply amazing! Definitely visit if you love a soft cookie. We went for the walnut chocolate chip and dark chocolate and peanut butter cookie. They were both really good eaten warm outside the bakery!

2022-04-06I like the place, the decoration is minimalist and make you feel that you are in a small owned bakery. I didnt try the cookies instead I decided for something else the raspberry bomboline and a flat bread. The bomboline was lacking of filling and I didnt know the dough was going to be sourdough. The flat bread was ok a bit to salty. What I really didnt like was the customer service they rushed me to take my order even when it was just me at the time.

2021-11-21I first tried Levain cookies about 5 years ago and didn’t understand how there could be so much hype for a cookie (and I do love cookies). Then I got it. The crispy exterior, soft and goey, melt in your mouth middle is just perfect. Not to mention I don’t like baked goods with nuts in them and this cookie is the exception. I legit craved these cookies for two years during Covid and couldn’t wait to get back to NYC to have them again.Excellent customer service every time I go and great price point.Their new Two chip is great!
